African Hepatics. XXXI. Some new or little-known Lejeuneaceae and extensions of range

Abstract

Lejeunea brenanii sp. nov. and Microlejeunea ankasica sp. nov. are described. Lejeunea autoica Schuster and Pycnolejeunea contigua (Nees) Grolle are described and recorded as new to Africa. Lejeunea longirostris (Steph.) E.W. Jones, nom. inval., is a synonym of L. grossecristata (Steph.) E.W. Jones. Critical notes and/or new localities are provided for Colura digitalis (Mitt.) Steph., C. dusenii Steph., C. humbertii S. Jovet-Ast, C. sp. ad inornata Jovet-Ast, Marchesinia moelleriana Pearson.     

Cheilolejeunea oncophylla (Ångstr.) Orolle & Reiner comb. nov. (Lejeuneaceae), from the Neotropics

Abstract

Cheilolejeunea oncophylla (Ångstr.) Grolle & Reiner comb. nov. (basionym: Lejeunea oncophylla Ångstr.) is described and illustrated. Trachylejeunea dominicensis Steph. and Harpalejeunea verrucosa Herzog are shown to be synon):'ms.     

New records of bryophytes from the Canary Islands

Abstract

Two members each of the Adelanthaceae and Schistochilaceae and three of the Porellaceae are recorded from Mulanje Mountain, of which Adelanthus lindenbergianus (Lehm.) Mitt., Porella abyssinica (Nees) Trev. var. hoehnelii (Steph.) Pócs, Porella capensis (Gott.) Mitt. and P. subdentata (Mitt.) Steph. are first records for Malawi.

Abstract

Lejeunea aethiopica E. W. Jones, sp. nov., L. amaniensis E. W. Jones sp. nov., L. hepaticola Steph., and Cheilolejeunea cordistipula (Steph.) Grolle ex Jones, 397 comb. nov. (Strepsilejeunea cordistipula Steph., Pycnolejeunea angustiflora Steph., syn. nov.) are described.     

African Hepatics XXXIX. Some dioecious species of Lejeunea

Abstract

Lejeunea obtusata Gott. is described and recorded from Madagascar, Mauritius, Tanzania, Ghana, Sierra Leone and probably Uganda. L. cantabrigiensis E.W. Jones sp. nov. is described from Cameroon Mountain. L. obtusistipula (Steph.) E.W. Jones, comb. nov. (Cheilolejeunea obtusistipula Steph.) is described from Sierra Leone. Taxonomic notes on allied species, including L. confusa E.W. Jones, are included.

A type study of Fimbriaria nana Lindenb. revealed that it is synonymous with Athalamia hyalina (Sommerf.) Hatt. 203. Fossombroniaceae Hazsl. 1885 has to replace Codoniaceae Klinggr.1858 nom. illeg., because Codonia Dum. 1822 is illegitimate. 204. Herzogobryumaterrimum (Steph.) c. n. (≡ Cephalozia aterrima Steph.) has to replace H. filarium Grolle 1975. 205. Korrnickia Steph. 1917 is regarded as a synonym of Symphyogyna Nees et Mont. 1836 and K. cylindrica Steph. 1917 is placed in synonymy of S. mexicana Steph. 1909.206. All records of Preissia Corda from Latin America are rejected. P. barbata Herz. 1921 is referred to as syn. nov. of Marchantia chenopoda L. 1753. 208. Riccia crustata Trab. was validly published in 1916 already, but has been generally overlooked hitherto. 209. Symphyogyna brasiliensis. Nees et Mont. is widespread in the Neotropics and Africa. Several African names are treated as synonyms. 210. The monotypic genus Wiesnerella Schiffn. is newly recorded from New Guinea and the Mascarenes. The Mascarene record is the first one outside Asia.

报道了采自中国广西和越南北部地区细鳞苔属新记录种——柏氏细鳞苔[Lejeunea patersonii(Steph.)Steph.]。该种的主要特征为侧叶顶端圆形或钝形,叶边缘具圆齿;腹叶小,远生,宽为茎的1~2倍;叶细胞角质层平滑,三角体不明显或中等大,中部球状加厚缺。该研究对柏氏细鳞苔与其相似种进行了细致的比较讨论,并对柏氏细鳞苔原有的地理分布信息进行了更正,重新确认了该种的地理分布。     

Additions to the bryoflora of Réunion Island 3: new and interesting records from the Tropical Bryology Group (British Bryological Society)

Abstract

This contribution is a result of collaborative work based on the fieldwork organized during a workshop of the Tropical Bryology Group on Mascarene bryophytes in September 2008, and also from previous unpublished records of the authors. We add 35 new taxon records (17 mosses and 18 liverworts) as well as five other interesting records for Réunion Island (Mascarene Archipelago). Grimmia austrofunalis Müll. Hal., Sphagnum magellanicum Brid. subsp. magellanicum, Didymodon tectorum (Müll. Hal.) K. Saito, Anastrophyllum revolutum Steph. and Lejeunea exilis (Reinw. et al.) Grolle are reported for the first time for Africa. Syrrhopodon vardei L. T. Ellis, Ceratolejeunea papuliflora Steph. and Xylolejeunea grolleana (Pócs) X.-L. He & Grolle, previously known as endemic from Madagascar, are here recorded for Réunion. The latter species is also illustrated with SEM pictures.     

Crittogame brasiliane,a review of Giuseppe Raddi bryophyte collections in the state of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

The bryophytes collected by Giuseppe Raddi during his travels in Brazil (1817–1818) housed at Pisa (PI) and Firenze (FI) herbaria were critically studied. The present study provides information about types, nomenclature, taxonomy and geographical distribution for 51 species. One comb. nov. (Taxilejeunea serpyllifolioides (Raddi) Costa (basionym: Jungermannia serpillifolioides Raddi 1822) and two new synonyms (Jungermannia serpillifolioides Raddi 1822 = Taxilejeunea isocalycina (Nees) Steph. 1914; Anthoceros brasiliensis Raddi 1818 = Dendroceros crispus (Sw.) Nees 1846) are made.     

A mixed stand of Sphagnum subsecundum var. auriculalum and var. inundatum in North Wales

Abstract

Schusterolejeunea nom. nov. is proposed to replace the mono typic Cladocolea Schust. 1963, non van Tieghem 1895. Sch. inundata (Spruce) comb. nov. (≡ Lejeunea inundata Spruce) is lectotypified and Potamolejeunea sprucei Steph. newly placed in its synonymy.     

A morphological revision of the genus Herbertus S.Gray (Herbertaceae,Marchantiophyta) in Africa,including the East African islands

Abstract

The genus Herbertus S.Gray in Africa and the East African islands is revised. The division of the genus into two broad species complexes centred on H. dicranus (Tayl.ex Gottsche et al.) Trev. and H. juniperoideus (Sw.) Grolle is confirmed. H. capensis (Steph.) Sim, H. capillaris (Steph.) H. doggeltianus (Steph.) Demaret, H. lobatus (Steph.) Demaret, H. mascarenicus (Steph.) S.Arn., H. mollis (Steph.) Dusén, H. stuhlmannii (Steph.) Demaret and Schisma kilimandjarense Steph. are synonymous with H. dicranus. H. grossevittatus (Steph.) S.Arn. ex Grolle is synonymous with H. juniperoideus. Three new species are described: H. spicatus N.G.Hodgetts sp. nov., which is related to H. juniperoideus and appears close to the neotropical H. pensilis, with long, narrow leaf lobe apices and a sheathing leaf base; H. mauritianus N.G.Hodgetts sp. nov., also related to H. juniperoideus, has fewer basal slime papillae and the vitta bifurcating lower down; and H. pocsii N.G.Hodgetts sp. nov., which is related to H. dicranus but has setaceous leaf lobe apices composed of long, narrow cells. The relationships of the taxa and patterns of distribution, taking account of recent molecular work, are discussed.     

A contribution to the knowledge of epiphyllous bryophytes of Bioko Island (Equatorial Guinea), including additional remarks on non-epiphyllous species

Abstract

A collection of epiphyllous bryophytes from Bioko Island was investigated. It contained 57 epiphyllous bryophytes, comprising 55 hepatics and two mosses. Three taxa, Cololejeunea eustacei Pócs, Colura calderae Pócs and Lejeunea halei Robinson subsp. africana Pócs, are new to science. Cololejeunea papilliloba Steph. is new to Africa, five species of hepatics are new to West Africa, and an additional 31 species of hepatics are newly reported from Bioko Island. The second part of the paper deals with records of non-epiphyllous collections. Fourteen species are reported for the first time for Bioko Island. Actinodontium dusenii Broth. is made a synonym of Actinodontium streptopogoneum Broth. The following new combination is proposed: Wijkia rigidicaule (Müll.Hal. ex Broth.) Frank Müll., comb. nov. (Basionym: Acanthocladium rigidicaule Müll.Hal. ex Broth.).

Type studies in the Lejeuneaceae. II. Pteryganthus,a new subgenus of Lopholejeunea

Lopholejeunea subgenusPteryganthus is described as new based upon the Mauritian plantL. sphaerophora (Lehm. & Lindenb.) Steph.Lopholejeunea utriculata Steph. from Madagascar is included as well.Lopholejeunea sinuata (Mitt.) Steph. is reduced to synonymy withL. sphaerophora. The two species of subgenusPteryganthus are compared withL. herzogiana Verd. andL. pullei Verd., two Malaysian species, with superficially similar lobule construction, but not of thePteryanthus type.

Abstract

Five species of Colura are reported from Mulanje Mountain, of which four, C. ealyptrifolia (Hook.) Dum., C. digitalis (Mitten) Steph., C. hattoriana Pócs and C. tenuicornis (Evans) Steph. are new for Malawi. C. hattoriana is also reported new for mainland Africa. A key to sub-Saharan taxa is provided.     

African Hepatics: VIII. Diplasiolejeunea albifolia (Taylor) E. W. Jones comb.nov.

Abstract

The new combination Tetralophozia filiformis (Steph.) E. Urmi is proposed for Chandonanthus filiformis Steph. So far this species has been known only from Asia and N. America. Recent collections show it to occur also in Europe, in the Cantabrian Mts., Spain. Here it grows in sheltered places on siliceous rocks in oceanic conditions. From Tetralophozia setiformis (Ehrh.) Schljak. (=Chandonanthus setiformis) it is distinguished by its smaller size, the leaf lobes are always more than twice as long as wide and their margins are not inflexed towards the stem.

Abstract

Taxilejeunea furcicornuta sp.nov. from Madagascar and Réunion is described and figured in detail. Its affinities to T. conformis (Nees & Mont.) Steph. and Stenolejeunea Schust. are briefly discussed.

Abstract

Key to the genera Marchesinia, Dicranolejeunea and Lopholejeunea. D. johnsoniana (Mitt.) comb.nov. from Macaronesia is figured and described in detail. The South African Marchesinia chrysophylla is transferred to Dicranolejeunea and is regarded as conspecific with D. atra (Mitt.) Vanden Berghen, syn.nov. from Central Africa.
