Abstract

Using net assimilation rate as a measure of physiological activity, reciprocal transplants of Hylocomium splendens, Pleurozium schreberi and Racomitrium lanuginosum between Yläne (60°55′N) and Kevo (69°45′N) and between Kevo and Spitzbergen (78°13′N) were used to investigate adaptation to latitude. It was found that physiological stress increased northwards and that adaptation to different latitudes was largely due to acclimation. The importance of day length and temperature to mosses in extreme latitudes is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigated the effects of thermal stimulation on corticomotor excitability with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Material and methods: Participants consisted of healthy young adults (n?=?20) and seniors (n?=?15). Each experimental session consisted of a baseline (BL) assessment, followed by a warming and a cooling protocol. At BL, recordings of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) and skin temperature were performed with the index finger covered with a ‘neutral’ gel pack (24?°C). For warming, the same measurements were performed, but with the index covered with a warmed gel pack (45?°C). The gel pack was kept for 5?min, and the measurements were performed at 1?min during warming and 5 and 10?min post. After a break, participants were tested with the cooling protocol (gel pack 10?°C) by repeating the same sequence as in the warming.

Results: The two thermal protocols induced the desired range of skin temperatures (warming?=?35–45°; cooling?=?13–24°). For MEP modulation, the primary analysis revealed no main effects or interactions, owing to the variability of responses to either warming or cooling stimulation. Further analysis of individual responses revealed that modulation, when present, was short-lasting and was characterized by a depression in about half of the participants. Facilitation was also observed, but only in smaller clusters, especially with cooling (13/35). Modulation in MEP amplitude did not correlate with changes in skin temperature.

Conclusion: These results are consistent with previous reports regarding variability in response to sensory stimulation protocols. In the case of thermal stimulation, such variability likely reflects individual differences in the influences exerted by thermal afferents centrally.  相似文献

Abstract

(1) Gas exchange measurements on Rhytidiadelphus loreus and Anomodon viticulosus following re-moistening after a period of desiccation showed an initial stimulation of respiration, followed immediately by progressive recovery of photosynthesis within the first 1–6 h. A. viticulosus after 48 h dry reached the compensation point within a few minutes of re-moistening; R. lore us after 7 days dry reached the compensation point after about 4 hours.

(2) Hylocomium splendens, R. loreus and Tortula ruraliformis were subjected to the following patterns of alternating wet and dry periods over a period of 18 weeks: continuous dry, 1 day wet/6 days dry, 6 days wetll day dry, 1 day wet/1 day dry, 7 days wet/7 days dry, continuous wet.

(3) Only T. ruraliformis still attained a positive net assimilation rate after the continuous dry treatment for the duration of the experiment. All three species retained a positive net assimilation rate throughout after all the remaining treatments.

(4) A moist period of 24 h allowed substantially complete recovery from the after-effects of preceding desiccation.

(5) Experiments in which two dry periods were separated by moist periods of 6 h, 24 hand 7 days showed that recovery in H. splendens and R. loreus was incomplete in 6 h but confirmed that it was complete in 24 h.

(6) H. splendens showed constant or slightly increased desiccation-tolerance in successive dry periods. R. loreus showed a well marked increase in tolerance (hardening) following a previous dry/wet cycle.

(7) The effect of intermittent desiccation can be predicted approximately from the successive effect of the individual dry periods.

(8) It is doubtful whether there is any specific deleterious effect of drying and re-moistening; any such effect that does exist can only be small.  相似文献

Abstract Diapause larvae of the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubn.)) and the related Mediterranean noctuid Sesamia cretica Led. possess sufficient supercooling ability to avoid freezing over their normal environmental temperature ranges. In progressive chilling experiments (10 days acclimation at each 5° step in the temperature range from 15 to ?5°C), mean supercooling points (measured at a cooling rate of 0.1°C min?1) were lowered from ?20.4°C at 15°C to ?24.0°C at 5°C (lower lethal temperatures: c.?28°C) in O.nubilalis, compared with ?15.0 to ?17.2°C (lower lethal temperatures: ?15 to ?17°C respectively) in S.cretica. Concentrations of glycerol and trehalose determined by gas chromatography of whole body extracts were consistently higher in the former than in the latter species at both 15 and 5°C, and may be responsible for the deeper supercooling in O.nubilalis larvae. Acclimation to 5°C increased glycerol levels in O. nubilalis extracts compared with 15°C, and this was enhanced in larvae exposed for a further 10 days at each of 0 and ?5°C (glycerol being 438μmol ml?1 body water). Haemolymph glycerol concentrations showed a similar pattern to whole body extracts in this species. Fat body glycogen was reduced during low temperature acclimation in both species. Body water contents did not change with acclimation in O.nubilalis, whilst S.cretica, containing significantly more water, lost c.7% during acclimation from 15 to 5°C. Haemolymph osmolalities increased during acclimation, especially in Ostrinia larvae, probably as a result of the accumulation of cryoprotectants. The majority of O.nubilalis larvae survived freezing under the conditions of the cooling experiments, whilst larvae of S.cretica did not, thereby confirming an element of freezing tolerance in the former.  相似文献

Abstract

(1) Net assimilation and respiration rates were measured at intervals after re-moistening, following various periods of desiccation, in Hookeria lucens, Hylocomium splendens, Neckera crispa, Plagiochila spinulosa, Plagiothecium undulatum, Rhacomitrium lanuginosum, Rhytidiadelphus loreus, Saccogyna viticulosa, Scorpiurium circinatum and Tortula ruraliformis.

(2) Rhacomitrium lanuginosum was extremely resistant, recovering apparently normally after 239 days' desiccation at 32% R.H.; Plagiochila spinulosa and Hookeria lucens were the most sensitive.

(3) Rhacomitrium lanuginosum and Tortula ruraliformis were most quickly damaged at the highest humidity (76%) and Plagiothecium undulatum at the lowest humidity tested (32%).

(4) Saccogyna viticulosa and Scorpiurium circinatum combined relatively rapid impairment and slow recovery of assimilation with the capacity to survive long dry periods.

(5) Dark respiration was relatively slow (commonly c. 5–20% of net assimilation). It usually showed a slight initial stimulation and a longer-term build-up following moderate or prolonged desiccation.

(6) Desiccation responses of bryophytes can be characterized in terms of parameters defining rate of loss of photosynthetic capacity with desiccationtime, rate of recovery after short periods of desiccation, and survival.  相似文献

Branches of 22-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda, L.) trees growing in a plantation were exposed to ambient CO2, ambient + 165 μmol mol?1 CO2 or ambient + 330 μmol mol?1 CO2 concentrations in combination with ambient or ambient + 2°C air temperatures for 3 years. Field measurements in the third year indicated that net carbon assimilation was enhanced in the elevated CO2 treatments in all seasons. On the basis of A/Ci, curves, there was no indication of photosynthetic down-regulation. Branch growth and leaf area also increased significantly in the elevated CO2 treatments. The imposed 2°C increase in air temperature only had slight effects on net assimilation and growth. Compared with the ambient CO2 treatment, rates of net assimilation were ~1·6 times greater in the ambient + 165 μmol mol?1 CO2 treatment and 2·2 times greater in the ambient + 330 μmol mol?1 CO2 treatment. These ratios did not change appreciably in measurements made in all four seasons even though mean ambient air temperatures during the measurement periods ranged from 12·6 to 28·2°C. This indicated that the effect of elevated CO2 concentrations on net assimilation under field conditions was primarily additive. The results also indicated that the effect of elevated CO2 (+ 165 or + 330 μmol mol?1) was much greater than the effect of a 2°C increase in air temperature on net assimilation and growth in this species.  相似文献

Culture collections of microalgae represent a biological resource for scientific research and biotechnological applications. When compared to the current methods of maintenance and sub-culturing, cryopreservation minimizes labor costs and is an effective method for maintaining a large range of species over long periods with high stability. In order to determine the best cryopreservation method for microalgae species with great biotechnological potential, three freezing protocols were employed using different cryoprotectants (dimethyl sulfoxide—Me2SO; methanol—MeOH). Three marine microalgae species (Thalassiosira weissflogii; Nannochloropsis oculata, and Skeletonema sp.) were cooled by directly plunging into liquid nitrogen (?196°C) and with two-step controlled cooling protocols (?18°C and ?80°C pre-treatments). After storage periods ranging from 10 to 120 days, viability was determined by the ability of cells to actively grow again. Results obtained for T. weissflogii showed that this species could be preserved at ultra-low temperature (?196°C) for 10 and 30 days with 10?% Me2SO and 5?% MeOH when employed a controlled cooling protocol (?80°C). N. oculata was successfully cryopreserved either by direct freezing or with controlled cooling protocols. N. oculata samples presented good responses when treated with 5?% Me2SO, 10?% Me2SO, 5?% MeOH and even without any cryoprotectant. Skeletonema sp. did not survive cryopreservation in any of the tested conditions. The results indicate the difficulty in establishing common protocols for different microalgae species, being necessary further studies for a better understanding of cell damages during freezing and thawing conditions for each species.  相似文献

Question: How does geothermal activity influence terrestrial plant colonization, species composition and community development in the Antarctic? Location: South Sandwich Islands, maritime Antarctic. Methods: Bryophytes were documented during a biological survey of the archipelago in January and February 1997. Particular attention was given to sites under current or recent influence of geothermal activity. Temperature profiles obtained across defined areas of activity on several islands were linked with the presence of specific bryophytes. Results: Greatest bryophyte richness was associated with geothermally influenced ground. Of 35 moss and nine liverwort species recorded, only four mosses were never associated with heated ground, while eight of the liverworts and 50% of the mosses were found only on actively or recently heated ground. Some species occur in unheated sites elsewhere in the maritime Antarctic, but were absent from such habitats on the South Sandwich Islands. Several species occurred in distinct zones around fumaroles. Maximum temperatures recorded within the upper 0.5 cm of the vegetation surface were 40 ‐ 47 °C, with only Campylopus introflexus tolerating such temperatures. Maximum temperatures 2.5 or 5 cm below the vegetation surface of this moss reached 75 °C. Other bryophytes regularly present in zoned vegetation included the mosses Dicranella hookeri, Sanionia georgico‐uncinata, Pohlia nutans and Notoligotrichum trichodon, and the liverworts Cryptochila grandiflora and Marchantia berteroana. Surface temperatures of 25 ‐ 35 °C and subsurface temperatures of 50 ‐ 60 °C were recorded in these species. Conclusions: These exceptional plant communities illustrate the transport of viable propagules into the Antarctic. Individually ephemeral in nature, the longer term existence of geothermal habitats on islands along the Scotia Arc may have provided refugia during periods of glacial expansion, facilitating subsequent recolonization of Antarctic terrestrial habitats.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effects of three temperatures (20°C, 27°C, and 31°C) on the physiological performance (survival and growth) and cuttlebone micromorphological features (chamber number, chamber height and lamellae number) of cuttlefish Sepia pharaonis. We examined gross morphological characteristics of the internal calcareous cuttlebone to determine whether lamellar matrix was impacted by temperature. Juvenile survival was significantly affected by temperature (χ2?=?54.580, df?=?2, P?<?0.001). Cuttlebone weight, length and width were also positively correlated with temperature. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that a single chamber structure consists of septa, lamellae and pillars. At 20°C the chamber number of 89.0?±?10.8 was significantly higher than at 27°C with 44.8?±?3.6 or 31°C with 47.5?±?4.3 (Kruskal–Wallis [KW], χ2?=?26.391, df?=?2, P?=?0.0001), whilst chamber height was lower at 20°C (KW χ2?=?27.842, df?=?2, P?=?0.0001). Moreover, lamellae number varied among the treatments (KW χ2?=?22.411, df?=?2, P?=?0.0002). Lamellae numbers at 20°C, 27°C and 31°C were 3–6, 6–9 and 5–8, respectively. The results indicated that the intrinsic lamellar matrix structure was significantly affected by temperature and that this effect may be used in cuttlebone growth studies.  相似文献

Abstract. The thermal preferences of Alaskozetes antarcticus (Acari, Cryptostigmata) and Cryptopygus antarcticus (Collembola, Isotomidae) were investigated over 6 h within a temperature gradient (?3 to +13 °C), under 100% relative humidity (RH) conditions. After 10 days of acclimation at ?2 or +11 °C, individual supercooling points (SCP) and thermopreferences were assessed, and compared with animals maintained for 10 days under fluctuating field conditions (?6 to +7 °C). Acclimation at ?2 °C lowered the mean SCP of both A. antarcticus (?24.2 ± 9.1) and C. antarcticus (?14.7 ± 7.7) compared to field samples (?19.0 ± 9.0 and ?10.7 ± 5.2, respectively). Acclimation at +11 °C increased A. antarcticus mean SCP values (?13.0 ± 8.5) relative to field samples, whereas those of C. antarcticus again decreased (?16.7 ± 9.1). Mites acclimated under field conditions or at +11 °C selected temperatures between ?3 and +1 °C. After acclimation at ?2 °C, both species preferred +1 to +5 °C. Cryptopygus antarcticus maintained under field conditions preferred +5 to +9 °C, whereas individuals acclimated at +11 °C selected +9 to +13 °C. For A. antarcticus, thermopreference was not influenced by its cold hardened state. The distribution of field specimens was further assessed within two combined temperature and humidity gradient systems: (i) 0–3 °C/12% RH, 3–6 °C/33% RH, 6–9 °C/75% RH and 9–12 °C/100% RH and (ii) 0–3 °C/100% RH, 3–6 °C/75% RH, 6–9 °C/33% RH and 9–12 °C/12% RH. In gradient (i), C. antarcticus distributed homogeneously, but, in gradient (ii), C. antarcticus preferred 0–3 °C/100% RH. Alaskozetes antarcticus selected temperatures between 0 and +6 °C regardless of RH conditions. Cryptopygus antarcticus appears better able than A. antarcticus to opportunistically utilize developmentally favourable thermal microclimates, when moisture availability is not restricted. The distribution of A. antarcticus appears more influenced by temperature, especially during regular freeze‐thaw transitions, when this species may select low temperature microhabitats to maintain a cold‐hardened state.  相似文献

Abstract

Limonium mansanetianum is catalogued as critically threatened (CR) species and it is included in Valencian Catalogue of Threatened Plant Species. Limonium mansanetianum is a gypsicolous species, which only lives in a restricted area to south-centre of Valencia province (Spain). The species is a low-branched woody shrub with summer flowering. The influence of incubation temperature (10°, 15°, 20° and 25°/20?°C) and salinity (0%–3.0% NaCl) on seed germination of L. mansanetianum was studied. Best seed germination was obtained in distilled water controls. Seed germination decreased with an increase in salinity and few seeds germinated at 2.5% and 3.0% NaCl. Optimal temperature regime for germination was 15?°C where germination in 0.5% and 1.0% NaCl was not affected. Recovery and hypersaline conditions experiments showed that L. mansanetianum seeds displayed a greater tolerance to high salinity and temperature stress before germination.  相似文献

The high-arctic environment is an environment where the consequences of global warming may be significant. In this paper we report on findings on carbon dioxide and water vapour fluxes above a sedge-dominated fen at Zackenberg (74°28′N, 20°34′ W) in The National Park of North and East Greenland. Eddy covariance measurements were initiated at the start of the growing season and terminated shortly before its end lasting 45 days. The net CO2 flux during daytime reaches a high of 10 μmol m–2s–1, and around the summer solstice, net CO2 assimilation occurred at midnight, resulting in net carbon gain during the night. The measured carbon dioxide fluxes compare well to estimates based on the photosynthesis model by Collatz et al. (1991 ). The total growing-season net ecosystem CO2 exchange was estimated to be 96 g C m–2 based on the carbon dioxide model and micrometeorological data. Finally, the combined CO2 assimilation and soil respiration models are used for examining the dependence of the carbon dioxide budget on temperature. The ecosystem is found to function optimally given the present temperature conditions whereas either an increase or a decrease in temperature would reduce the ecosystem CO2 accumulation. An increase in temperature by 5 °C would turn the ecosystem into a carbon dioxide source.  相似文献

Net photosynthesis and dark respiration (CO2 flux) of Antarctic mosses were measured at Langhovde, East Antarctica, from 9 to 17 January 1988. Moss blocks were taken from communities in the Yukidori Valley (69°14′30″S, 39°46′00″E) at Langhovde. Each block was composed ofCeratodon purpureus andBryum pseudotriquetrum, orB. pseudotriquetrum. The upper part of the block was used to measure net photosynthesis and dark respiration. The net photosynthesis of each sample was measured in the field for one or three days with two infrared CO2 gas analyzers and an assimilation chamber. The relationships of net photosynthetic rate and dark respiration rate, to the water content of the sample, the intensity of solar radiation and the moss temperature were estimated from the field data. The maximum rate of net photosynthesis was about 4 μmol CO2 m−2s−1 at saturating radiation intensity and at optimum temperature, about 10°C. Environmental features of moss habitats in the Yukidori Valley are discussed in relation to these results.  相似文献

A two-step freezing procedure has been examined in order to separate some of the causes of damage following freezing and thawing. Different holding temperatures and times have been studied during the freezing of Chinese hamster tissue culture cells in dimethyl sulphoxide (5%, vv). Damage following rapid cooling to, time at, and thawing from different holding temperatures was found to increase at lower holding temperatures and at longer times. Damage on subsequent cooling from the holding temperature to ?196 °C and thawing was found to diminish at lower holding temperatures and longer times. The net result was that optimal survival from ?196 °C was obtained after 10 min at ?25 °C. Protection against the second step of cooling to ?196 °C was acquired at the holding temperature itself and was absent at ?15 °C without freezing. It seems that this technique will allow the different phases of freezing injury to be separated. These phases may include thermal shock to the holding temperature, hypertonic damage at the holding temperature and dilution shock on thawing from ?196 °C.  相似文献

Phenology, irradiance and temperature characteristics of a freshwater benthic red alga, Nemalionopsis tortuosa Yoneda et Yagi (Thoreales), were examined from Kagoshima Prefecture, southern Japan for the conservation of this endemic and endangered species. Field surveys confirmed that algae occurred in shaded habitats from winter to early summer, and disappeared during August through November. A net photosynthesis–irradiance (PE) model revealed that net photosynthetic rate quickly increased and saturated at low irradiances, where the saturating irradiance (Ek) and compensation irradiance (Ec) were 10 (8–12, 95% credible interval (CRI)) and 8 (6–10, 95% CRI) μmol photon m?2 s?1, respectively. Gross photosynthesis and dark respiration was determined over a range of temperatures (8–36°C) by dissolved oxygen measurements, and revealed that the maximum gross photosynthetic rate was highest at 29.5 (27.4–32.0, 95%CRI) °C. Dark respiration also increased linearly when temperature increased from 8°C to 36°C, indicating that the increase in dark respiration at higher temperature most likely caused decreases in net photosynthesis. The maximum quantum yield (Fv/Fm) that was determined using a pulse amplitude modulated‐chlorophyll fluorometer (Imaging‐PAM) was estimated to be 0.51 (0.50–0.52, 95%CRI) and occurred at an optimal temperature of 21.7 (20.1–23.4, 95%CRI) °C. This species can be considered well‐adapted to the relatively low natural irradiance and temperature conditions of the shaded habitat examined in this study. Our findings can be applied to aid in the creation of a nature‐reserve to protect this species.  相似文献

Aims: To examine the effect of processing with superheated steam (SS) on Geobacillus stearothermophilus ATCC 10149 spores. Methods and Results: Two inoculum levels of spores of G. stearothermophilus were mixed with sterile sand and exposed to SS at 105–175°C. The decimal reduction time (D‐value) and the thermal resistance constant (z‐value) were calculated. The effect of cooling of spores between periods of exposure to SS was also examined. A mean z‐value of 25·4°C was calculated for both inoculum levels for SS processing temperatures between 130°C and 175°C. Conclusions: Spore response to SS treatment depends on inoculum size. SS treatment may be effective for reduction in viability of thermally resistant bacterial spores provided treatments are separated by intermittent cooling periods. Significance and Impact of the Study: There is a need for technologies that require short thermal processing times to eliminate bacterial spores in foods. The SS processing technique has the potential to reduce microbial load and to modify food texture with less energy in comparison to commonly used hot air treatment. This work provides information on the effect of SS processing parameters on the viability of G. stearothermophilus spores.  相似文献

Cryopreservation protocols include the use of additives and pretreatments aimed to reduce the probability of ice nucleation at all temperatures, mainly through micro‐viscosity increase. Still, there is a risk of ice formation in the temperature region comprised between the equilibrium freezing (Tf) and the glass transition (TG) temperatures. Consequently, fast cooling and warming, especially in this region, is a must to avoid ice‐derived damage. Vitrification and droplet‐vitrification techniques, frequently used cryopreservation protocols based in fast cooling, were studied, alongside with the corresponding warming procedures. A very fast data acquisition system, able to read very low temperatures, down to that of liquid nitrogen, was employed. Cooling rates, measured between ?20°C and ?120°C, ranged from ca. 5°C s?1 to 400°C s?1, while warming rates spanned from ca. 2°C s?1 to 280°C s?1, for the different protocols and conditions studied. A wider measuring window (0°C to ?150°C) produced lower rates for all cases. The cooling and warming rates were also related to the survival observed after the different procedures. Those protocols with the faster rates yielded the highest survival percentages. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Biotechnol. Prog., 30:1177–1184, 2014  相似文献

Abstract

Cheese production is projected to reach 20 million metric tons by 2020, of which 33% is being produced using calf rennet (EC 3.4.23.4). There is shortage of calf rennet, and use of plant and microbial rennets, hydrolyze milk proteins non-specifically resulting in low curd yields. This study reports fungal enzymes obtained from cost effective medium, with minimal down streaming, whose activity is comparable with calf and Mucor rennet. Of the fifteen fungi that were screened, Mucor thermohyalospora (MTCC 1384) and Rhizopus azygosporus (MTCC 10195) exhibited the highest milk-clotting activity (MCA) of 18,383?±?486?U/ml and 16,373?± 558?U/ml, respectively. Optimization exhibited a 33% increase in enzyme production (30?g wheat bran containing 6% defatted soy meal at 30?°C, pH 7) for M. thermohyalospora. The enzyme was active from pH 5–10 and temperature 45–55?°C. Rhizopus azygosporus exhibited 31% increase in enzyme production (30?g wheat bran containing 4% defatted soy meal at 30?°C, pH 6) and the enzyme was active from pH 6–9 at 50?°C. Curd yields prepared from fungal enzyme extract decreased (5–9%), when compared with calf rennet and Mucor rennet. This study describes the potential of fungal enzymes, hitherto unreported, as a viable alternative to calf rennet  相似文献

The germination characteristics of Banksia integrifolia L.f., B. serrata L.f. and B. aemula R.Br. were investigated. No significant response was found to light exposure, seed coat and substrate treatments. The three species showed marked and differing sensitivities to the temperature regime of germination. Germination character curves allowing the interpretation of temperature maxima, minima, the span between them, and optimal conditions for minimal incubation periods are presented. These were for B. integrifolia cool day temperatures < 21°C but in excess of 14°C coupled with night temperatures between 5°C and 21°C; for B. serrata a narrow range of temperatures between 18°C and 24°C; for B. aemula warm day temperatures 25–37°C coupled with night temperatures in the range 18–28°C. The geographical distribution of these species is related to germination requirements and some aspects of the seasonality of establishment environments are discussed.  相似文献

Photosynthetic responses to temperature in tropical lotic macroalgae   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A comparative analysis of the photosynthetic responses to temperature (10–30°C) was carried out under short‐term laboratory conditions by chlorophyll fluorescence and oxygen (02) evolution. Ten lotic macroalgal species from southeastern Brazil (20°11–20°48′S, 49°18–49°41′W) were tested, including Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanophyta, Rhodophyta and Xanthophyta. Temperature had significant effects on electron transport rate (ETR) only for three species (Terpsinoe musica, Bacillariophyta; Cladophora glomerata, Chlorophyta; and C. coeruleus, Rhodophyta), with highest values at 25–30°C, whereas the remaining species had no significant responses. It also had similar effects on non‐photochemical quenching and ETR. Differences in net photosynthesisldark respiration ratios at distinct temperatures were found, with an increasing trend of respiration with higher temperatures. This implies in a decreasing balance between net primary production and temperature, representing more critical conditions toward higher temperatures for most species. In contrast, high net photosynthesis and photosynthesisldark respiration ratios at high and wide ranges of temperature were found in three species of green algae, suggesting that these algae can be important primary producers in lotic ecosystems, particularly in tropical regions. Optimal photosynthetic rates were observed under similar environmental temperatures for five species (two rhodophytes, two chlorophytes and one diatom) considering both techniques, suggesting acclimation to their respective ambient temperatures. C. coeruleus was the only species with peaks of ETR and 02 evolution under similar field‐measured temperatures. All species kept values of ETR and net photosynthesis close to the optimum under a broad range of temperatures. Increased non‐photochemical quenching, as a measure of thermal dissipation of excess energy, toward higher temperatures was observed in some species, as well as positive correlation of non‐photochemical quenching with ETR, and were interpreted as two mechanisms of adaptation of the photosynthetic apparatus to temperature changes. Different optimal temperatures were found for individual species by each technique, generally under lower temperatures by 02 evolution, indicating dependence on distinct factors: increases in temperature generally induced higher ETR due to increased enzymatic activity, whereas increments of enzymatic activity were compensated by increased respiration and photorespiration leading to decreases in net photosynthesis.  相似文献
