The aim of this study was to develop a method to kill or expel the gill-dwelling crustacean parasite Paraergasilus rylovi from a common freshwater clam, Anodonta piscinalis. Naturally infected clams were exposed to different water-quality treatments and monitoring in the laboratory. In a high-temperature treatment (26 C vs. control 18 C), the mean abundance of the parasite decreased to near zero in 7 days. Because only 2 clams of 72 died in this treatment during the 14-day experiment, the survival of the host was not seriously at risk at the high temperature. 'Low oxygen, no water change' (18 C) was the second most effective treatment, followed by a 'low-oxygen, water-flow' (18 C) treatment. At the end of the experiment, the mean parasite abundance was significantly lower in all the treatments than in the control clams (18 C). A few P. rylovi individuals abandoned the host at 26 C but died in a couple of days outside the host. However, the parasites lived on average (+/-SE) 12.7 +/- 0.9 days outside the clam, and were also shown to be capable of infecting another uninfected host individual, at 18 C. The results of the present study suggest that high temperature provides an effective, ecologically sustainable method to manipulate the intensity of P. rylovi infection.  相似文献

Several studies on vertebrates have demonstrated that reproductive activities may increase the parasite load, but this has not been shown in invertebrate hosts. We studied abundance of a potentially harmful gill parasite, the ergasilid copepod Paraergasilus rylovi, from the freshwater bivalve host Anodonta piscinalis in relation to reproductive maturity of the host in the field. Prevalence of this previously unstudied parasite varied from 90 to 100%, and the mean parasite abundance from 16.3 to 28.8 among 3 study populations. Abundance of P. rylovi increased with host size. In the maturating age groups (3-5 yr) the length-adjusted mean parasite abundance among mature, reproducing female clams that brooded glochidia larvae was 2 times higher than in nonreproducing females, the observed pattern being consistent among the 3 study lakes. Alternative, mutually nonexclusive explanations may be found for the result. For example, changes in clam behavior or filtration activity accompanying maturation can increase host exposure to parasites, or reproduction may decrease energy available to host immunologic defense. However, the present result indicates that maturation, and reproduction, is associated with increased parasite abundance in A. piscinalis, an invertebrate host.  相似文献

Populations of rock partridge (Alectoris graeca saxatilis), in the Trentino province of Italy, exhibit cyclic fluctuations in abundance associated with relatively dry habitat. One of the hypothesis to explain these cycles is that survival of some free living parasitic stages and rates of infection are greater in these areas leading to higher parasite burden. This hypothesis was examined by investigating the intensity of parasite infection in cyclic and non cyclic rock partridge populations. Analyses of 87 intestine samples collected from shot rock partridges during 1994 and 1995 identified 8 species of helminths parasites: Ascaridia compar (P = 33.33%; I = 9.28 +/- 1.78), Heterakis tenuicauda (P = 19.54%; I = 10.29 +/- 4.58), Heterakis gallinarum (P = 1.15%; I = 1.0 +/- 0.0), Heterakis altaica (P = 1.15%; I = 17 +/- 0.0), Aonchoteca caudinflata (P = 6.89; I = 2.17 +/- 0.65), Postharmostomum commutatum (P = 5.75; I = 7.0 +/- 3.48), Brachylaema fuscata (P = 1.15; I = 7.0 +/- 0.0), Platynosomum alectoris (P = 2.29; I = 5.5 +/- 1.5). Cestoda, recorded with a prevalence of 5.75, were not identified to species level. A. compar and H. tenuicauda were prevalent in the rock partridge populations and there was no positive association between these species. Intensity of infection in both species was not influenced by host age, sex or year of study but levels of infection with A. compar burdens were significantly greater in cyclic populations than in non cyclic populations and there was a tendency for H. tenuicauda to be greater in cyclic populations. There was no negative relationship between intensity of infection with A. compar or H. tenuicauda and host body mass. These data provide some support for the hypothesis that these parasites may play a role in generating rock partridge population cycles.  相似文献

This study reports the prevalence of Bucephalus sp. in Perna perna populations from a culture station of southern Brazil and its effect on the mussel reproductive tissue and immune system. The prevalence of Bucephalus sp. in P. perna (n = 1871) was considered low (3.1%) and did not seasonally vary. Histological sections of the mantle of infected mussels revealed a marked (80%) reduction of the reproductive tissue that was severe even in mussels exhibiting a moderate infection degree. The total (THC) and differential (DHC) hemocyte counts were lower in infected mussels (3.9 x 10(6) hem/ml; granular hemocytes = 33%) as compared with non-infected animals (5.5 x 10(6) hem/ml; granular hemocytes = 40%). The plasma protein concentration did not vary upon infection. Hemocyte infiltration was significantly higher only in mussels with a very heavy infection degree. The parasite sporocysts were never seen encapsulated by the host hemocytes. Our results indicate that Bucephalus sp. promotes a severe castration in its host and apparently evades the mussel immune system.  相似文献

A cross-sectional survey was undertaken to study the prevalence and intensity of infection with Toxocara cati in 100 stray cats, from April to October 2004 in urban areas of Sari, northern Iran. A total of 44 cats (44%) were found to be infected with T. cati. There was a significant difference in the prevalence of infection relative to host age and weight (P = 0.000). There was also a significant difference in the intensity of infection relative to body weight and urban sites (P < 0.05). No significant difference was found between the prevalence of infection relative to host gender, urban sites and season (P>0.05), nor in the intensity of infection between host gender, age and season (P>0.05). The intensity of infection ranged from 1 to 32 worms per cat, with a mean of 7.30 +/- 6.82.  相似文献

The pathogenicity of female Philometra obturans (Prenant, 1886) was investigated. Fish samples were taken in May and June 2001 from Lake Littoistenj?rvi, in southwest Finland. The intensity of infection varied between 1 and 4 worms, these being found in the afferent artery of the 2 outermost gill arches. The prevalence was 33.9% (n = 59). Host condition and tissue reactions were investigated through dissection and analysis of histopathology. The parasites obstructed the gill arteries, and the arterial wall was stretched around intact worms. Hypertrophy of the arterial wall was observed, especially when only disintegrating remains of the parasites were present. Infected pike were in a poorer condition after catch, transportation, and holding in aquaria and thus less tolerant to stress than uninfected pike. This was correlated with the number of infected gill arteries (P < 0.05). The results show that infection with this nematode has a detrimental effect on the host when combined with environmental or physiological stress and may result in host mortality.  相似文献

The effect of chronic intestinal trematode infection on malaria was examined in a murine model of co-infection using Echinostoma caproni and Plasmodium yoelii. BALB/c mice (n = 32) infected with a low dose of E. caproni (approximately 10 cysts) 25-35 days before malaria infection displayed significantly increased malaria parasitemia (P = 0.01), extended patency of malaria (P = 0.03), and increased fatality (47%; P < 0.001) compared to mice infected only with P. yoelii (17X nonlethal strain) (n = 18). Further analysis revealed that differences in malaria parasitemia between fatal co-infections and infections with P. yoelii only were highly significant (P < 0.0001), whereas nonfatal co-infections were not statistically different. Exacerbation of malaria was demonstrated to be reversible through clearance of E. caproni worms by praziquantel treatment administered 10 days before malaria infection. No deaths were observed during malaria infection in mice cleared of their E. caproni infection (n = 10), and parasitemia was significantly reduced from that of untreated co-infected mice (P = 0.03) and was not different from that of mice infected with P. yoelii only. Further studies examining parasite-parasite interactions and host immune response in the echinostome model are warranted to understand the mechanisms affecting the course and outcome of malaria infection during concomitant helminth infection.  相似文献

The prevalence and intensity of Opisthorchis viverrini metacercariae (OvMc) were investigated in fish from 3 southern administrative regions along the Mekong River in Cambodia, i.e., Phnom Penh, Takeo, and Kandal Provinces from 2017 to 2020. A total of 295 freshwater fish (24 species) were transported to our laboratory with ice and examined using the artificial digestion method. In Phnom Penh, among 4 fish species positive for OvMc, 9 (23.7%) of 38 specimens examined were infected, and their intensity of infection averaged 4.3 metacercariae per infected fish. In Takeo Province, among 10 fish species positive for OvMc, 24 (38.1%) out of 63 fish examined were infected, and their intensity of infection was av. 14.4 metacercariae per infected fish. In particular, all of 3 Osteochilus schlegelii fish examined were infected, and their infection intensity was high, 34.7 metacercariae per fish. In Kandal Province, among 6 fish species positive for OvMc, 46 (90.2%) out of 51 specimens examined were infected, and their infection intensity was 24.0 metacercaraie per infected fish. All fish of Systomus orphoides (n=17), Barbonymus altus (n=14), and Rasbora aurotaenia (n=2) were infected, and their intensity of infection averaged 37.7, 21.6, and 18.5 metacercariae per fish, respectively. Metacercariae of Haplochis yokogawai, Haplorchis taichui, and Centrocestus formosanus were detected in fish from Takeo and Kandal Provinces. From these results, it has been confirmed that a variety of fish species from Phnom Penh, Takeo, and Kandal Provinces are commonly infected with OvMc, and preventive measures to avoid human O. viverrini infection should be performed in Cambodia.  相似文献

Microscopic examination of the hemolymph from diseased daphniids in 17 lakes in southwestern Michigan and five rock pools in southern Finland revealed the presence of tightly coiled bacteria that bore striking similarities to the drawings of a morphologically unique pathogen, "Spirobacillus cienkowskii," first described by Elya Metchnikoff more than 100 years ago. The uncultivated microbe was identified as a deeply branching member of the Deltaproteobacteria through phylogenetic analyses of two conserved genes: the 16S rRNA-encoding gene (rrs) and the beta-subunit of topoisomerase (gyrB). Fluorescence in situ hybridization confirmed that the rRNA gene sequence originated from bacteria with the tightly coiled morphology. Microscopy and PCR amplification with pathogen-specific primers confirmed infections by this bacterium in four species of Daphnia: Daphnia dentifera, D. magna, D. pulicaria, and D. retrocurva. Extensive field surveys reveal that this bacterium is widespread geographically and able to infect many different cladoceran species. In a survey of populations of D. dentifera in lakes in Michigan, we found the bacterium in 17 of 18 populations studied. In these populations, 0 to 12% of the individuals were infected, with an average of 3% during mid-summer and early autumn. Infections were less common in rock pool populations of D. magna in southern Finland, where the pathogen was found in 5 of 137 populations. The broad geographic distribution, wide host range, and high virulence of S. cienkowskii suggest it plays an important role in the ecology and evolution of daphniids.  相似文献

The excretion of bronchopulmonary nematode infective larvae was evaluated in 160 faecal samples of Spanish ibex (Capra pyrenaica hispanica) collected from 13 populations in Castilla-La Mancha, south-central Spain in September 2003. Intensities and prevalences were compared with pasture availability, abundances of wild and domestic ungulates at both levels, i.e. for populations and for faeces in a two-step procedure. Protostrongylid larvae showed similar infection rates (mean intensity: 1.56+/-0.12, n=94; mean prevalence: 25.62+/-6.86%, n=160) to Dictyocaulus spp. (mean intensity: 1.03+/-0.11, n=48; mean prevalence: 30.00+/-7.11%, n=160). At the population level, positive correlations were found between the prevalences of both bronchopulmonary taxa. The prevalence in both groups, but not intensity, also correlated positively with Spanish ibex abundance indexes both for the populations and individual faeces. These findings suggest that: (i) parasite spreading across Spanish ibex populations in Castilla-La Mancha could respond to host density-dependent processes; and (ii) these populations may have similar exposition and/or susceptibility to both bronchopulmonary taxa resulting in similar host-parasite patterns, despite their different life cycles. Bronchopulmonary outputs in the Spanish ibex from Castilla-La Mancha seems not to represent a health risk for this endemic wild ungulate but may be useful in any health surveillance scheme for the increasing populations of Spanish ibex.  相似文献

The susceptibility of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) to the monogenean Discocotyle sagittata in the United Kingdom was assessed by experimental infection of naive fish. One month postinfection with 100 oncomiracidia/host, brown trout harbored significantly lower burdens (27.7 worms/host +/- 4.13 SE) than rainbow trout (47.8 worms/host +/- 3.90; P = 0.002). This indicates that the consistently lower prevalence and intensity of D. sagittata recorded in naturally infected farmed fishes reflects differences in susceptibility to the parasite. The outcome may be related to the comparatively short-term association of this parasite with rainbow trout (introduced to Britain in the 1880s) compared with the established native host-parasite association.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the infection rates of snakes by pentastomids in the semi-arid region of Brazil. Fifteen snakes (four Micrurus ibiboboca (Merrem, 1820) and eleven Philodryas nattereri Steindachner, 1870) were collected between January and April of 2005, in the municipality of Crato (07 degrees 14' S and 39 degrees 24' W), State of Ceará, Brazil. Laboratorial analysis of the respiratory tracts of the sampled snakes indicated differences in host infection rates: four individuals of P. nattereri (36.4%) were infected by Cephalobaena tetrapoda Heymons, 1922 (mean infection intensity 1.5 +/- 0.28, 1-2) and three specimens (27.3%) by Raillietiella furcocerca (Diesing, 1863) (2.3 +/- 1.32, 1-5). Only one individual of M. ibiboboca (25%) was infected by a non-identified species of Raillietiella sp. These are the first data on pentastomid infection in snakes in Northeastern Brazil and both snake species comprise new host records for the pentastomids. The results also indicate that the generalist parasites C. tetrapoda and R. furcocerca share their definitive hosts.  相似文献

In the period 1996–2001 the natural occurrence of Bremia lactucae (lettuce downy mildew) on Asteraceae plants was studied in the Czech Republic. Lactuca serriola (prickly lettuce) is the most common naturally growing host species of B. lactucae. Infection of plants was recorded during the whole vegetation season with the first occurrence in April and last in November. Bremia lactucae was found on host plants in all developmental stages. High percentages of naturally infected populations of L. serriola were recorded. Host plants exhibited broad variation in phenotypic expression of disease symptoms and degree of infection, however, the intensity of infection was rather low in the majority of populations. Geographic distribution of B. lactucae was studied in the two main parts of Czech Republic, central and southern Moravia, and eastern, northern and central Bohemia. Bremia lactucae was recorded in all these areas. Nevertheless, in the warmest parts of the Czech Republic (southern Moravia) only sporadic occurrence of the pathogen was recorded. Bremia lactucae infection on L. serriola and disease severity was judged also in relation to the type of habitat, and the size and density of host plant populations. However, no substantial differences among various habitats were found; only host plants growing in urban areas were frequently free of infection and the degree of infection was very low. Nevertheless, these plants were commonly infected with powdery mildew (Golovinomyces cichoracearum), which is most aggressive pathogen of this type of habitat.  相似文献

Enhanced atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) production by the heart is related to hemodynamic overload, cardiac growth, and hypertrophy. The heart is one of the most affected organs during Trypanosoma cruzi infection. We tested the hypothesis that myocarditis produced by parasite infection alters the natriuretic peptide system by investigating the behavior of plasma ANF during the acute and chronic stages of T. cruzi infection in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were infected with T. cruzi clone Sylvio-X10/7. Cardiac morphology showed damage to myocardial cells and lymphocyte infiltration in the acute phase; and fibrosis and cell atrophy in the chronic period. Plasma ANF levels (radioimmunoassay) were significantly higher in acute (348 +/- 40 vs. 195 +/- 36 pg/ml, P < 0.05, n = 17) and chronic T. cruzi myocarditis (545 +/- 81 vs. 229 +/- 38 pg/ml, P < 0.001, n = 11) than in their respective controls (n = 10 and 14). Rats in the chronic phase also showed higher levels than rats in the acute phase (P < 0.01). The damage of myocardial cells produced by the parasite and the subsequent inflammatory response could be responsible for the elevation of plasma ANF during the acute period of T. cruzi infection. The highest plasma ANF levels found in chronically infected rats could be derived from the progressive failure of cardiac function.  相似文献

The population dynamics of larval Pomphorhynchus bulbocolli were studied in the amphipod intermediate host, Gammarus pseudolimnaeus. Amphipods were collected monthly from April 1982 to March 1983 from a study site at the West Fork of Drake's Creek, Simpson Co., Kentucky. The number of infected amphipods per m2 was lowest (0.6) in May and highest (27.3) in November. A total of 2,502 amphipods was examined; 1,575 (62.9%) were infected with P. bulbocolli. Infection intensity ranged from 1 to 12 with a mean of 1.83 +/- 0.03. Single and multiple worm infections were found in 800 (50.8%) and 775 (49.2%) amphipods, respectively. Female amphipods had higher prevalence and intensity of infections than males but differences were not significant. Prevalence in the monthly samples was lowest in May (5.1%) and highest in October (88.1%). The monthly mean intensity of infection was lowest in July (1.10 +/- 0.04) and highest in November (2.02 +/- 0.08). Amphipods in length classes 3 through 15 were infected with P. bulbocolli. In late summer and fall, amphipods in all length classes were infected, while in late winter and spring only large amphipods were infected. Recruitment of P. bulbocolli into amphipods was seasonal and the total infrapopulation within an amphipod was usually acquired at one time. There was little correlation between size and number of larvae present.  相似文献

From October 1997 to May 2001, the gastrointestinal tracts from 162 beach-cast southern sea otters Enhydra lutris nereis were examined for helminth parasites and associated lesions. Carcasses were collected opportunistically in central California between Pt. San Pedro and Pt. Arguello. The primary goals of this study were to examine spatial and temporal variability in mortality due to parasite infection, identify factors associated with increased risk of infection, and illustrate the process of intestinal perforation by Profilicollis spp. Two genera and 4 species of acanthocephalans (Profilicollis altmani, P. kenti, P. major, Corynosoma enhydri) were found in 46.3% (Profilicollis spp.) and 94.4% (C. enhydri) of the carcasses examined. Three species of Digenea (Microphallus pirum, M. nicolli, Plenosoma minimum) were found in 47% of carcasses, at times in massive numbers (> 3000 per cm2). This is the first report of the latter 2 species from the sea otter. Mortality resulting from infection by Profilicollis spp. occurred in 13.0% (n = 21) of sampled carcasses, either directly, due to perforation of the intestinal wall and peritonitis (9.9%, n = 16), or indirectly, due to inhibition of host nutrient uptake or depletion of host energy reserves to fight chronic infections (3.1%, n = 5). The most massive infections (< 8760 parasites), and all cases of intestinal perforation occurred in carcasses infected by P. altmani and/or P. kenti. Mortality due to infection by Profilicollis spp. occurred more frequently among juvenile and old-adult females (chi2 = 17.479, df = 9, p = 0.045) from sand and mixed habitats in Monterey and Santa Cruz in the north of the sea otter range (chi2 = 9.84, df = 4, p = 0.045). Spatial differences in sea otter mortality coincided with the relative distributions of Profilicollis altmani, P. kenti, and P. major, and may reflect differences in sea otter diet, or differences in intensity of infection in intermediate hosts. Mortality rate due to infection by Profilicollis spp. decreased between 1998 and 2001, though differences were not significant (chi2 = 3.983, df = 3, p = 0.40), and may vary on multi-year cycles due to environmental factors such as density of definitive hosts (e.g. the surf scoter Melanitta perspicillata), or El Ni?o. Corynosoma enhydri did not cause significant damage to the intestine of the host, even when present in great numbers.  相似文献

Patterns of accumulation of Triaenophorus crassus in its second intermediate host whitefish Coregonus lavaretus s.l. were studied between 1991 and 1996 from two host populations in two separate areas of Lake Saimaa, Finland. Whitefish were infected commonly with several T. crassus plerocercoids and the parasites were aggregated into the oldest hosts. In one host population the annual parasite accumulation was 0·9 parasites in all host age groups between 3 and 8 years. In the other host population the annual accumulation was 1·6 parasites in 3–5-year-old fish, but increased up to 3 to 4 parasites per year in fish over 5 years old. The increase did not coincide with the period of maturation or any increase in whitefish growth, both of which could alter the food intake of the fish. The sharp increase in the annual accumulation suggests a threshold intensity above which the probability of acquiring further parasites increases. In spite of a heavy aggregation of parasites there was no evidence of parasite-induced host mortality. The annual increase in mean abundance was not correlated with the mean annual weight increase in 2–4-year-old fish within cohorts. However, evidence of a negative effect of parasites on whitefish growth was revealed by back-calculation of lengths of uninfected and infected whitefish and correlations between length or weight of fish and intensity of infection with fish age. Both analyses suggested that larger young fish harboured more parasites than the smaller ones while in older fish the reverse was true, a pattern that has not been shown earlier for parasitized fish.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate apoptotic activity in breast cancer from Nigerian (n = 300) and Finnish (n=285) women. STUDY DESIGN: Apoptotic bodies were expressed as square millimeters of neoplastic tissue (apoptotic index [AI]). The standardized mitotic index (SMI) and mitotic activity index (MAI) estimated proliferation. RESULTS: The mean (+/- SD) AI was higher in Nigeria (9.6+/-14.8/mm2) than in Finland (5.2+/-6.1/ mm2). In both populations, AI values were higher in premenopausal than postmenopausal women, in lymph node positive than lymph node negative tumors and in larger than smaller tumors. However, the differences were not statistically significant. Increasing histologic grade was associated with increasing AI values (Nigeria, P =.012; Finland, P= .0001). AI in infiltrating ductal carcinomas were higher than in special types of breast cancer (Nigeria, P = .0700; Finland, P = .0168). As a continuous variable, AI was a significant prognosticator (Nigeria, P = .0125, Finland, P = .0466). Increasing AI appeared to be associated with tumor progression and dedifferentiation. The higher SMI/AI in Nigeria (9.2) than in Finland (4.5) reflects higher proliferative activity in the Nigerian material. In multivariate analysis of AI, SMI, MAI and tumor size, the proliferative indices (SMI and MAI) and tumor size only were significant independent prognosticators. CONCLUSION: In Nigerian and Finnish material, AI has limited prognostic value as a tool in grading breast cancer. The higher mean SMI/AI in Nigerian cancer suggests a shift in the proliferation/cell death balance, which may be associated with a later phase of the cancer progression cascade.  相似文献

We explored infection patterns and temporal dynamics of the protozoan blood parasite Hepatozoon tuatarae (Apicomplexa) infecting the tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus), a protected reptile living on Stephens Island, New Zealand. In March 2006, we surveyed tuatara in five study sites to examine spatial variation in infection prevalence, and four times, from May 2005 to November 2006, we recaptured marked individuals within three study sites to examine the temporal dynamics of infection. We also examined how blood-parasite infection patterns were influenced by host sex, body size, and host infestation with ticks (Amblyomma sphenodonti) and mites (Neotrombicula spp.), which are potential vectors of the blood parasite. Infection prevalence (16.9-24% infected) and intensity (<0.01-0.1% blood cells infected) were low in all samples. Infection intensity varied among the five sampled sites in March 2006, but prevalence did not. Neither infection prevalence nor intensity varied with time, and infections were detected in consecutive samples from recaptured individuals for up to 18 mo. Neither survey showed an influence of host sex on infection, but both surveys showed infection intensity declined with increasing host body size, as did infection prevalence in the spatial survey. In the temporal survey, we found a positive relationship between the tick numbers on hosts and blood-parasite infection intensity, which were stronger in two of the sampling periods and among larger hosts. These data suggest that exposure and susceptibility to infection decreases with host size and that ticks, but not mites, are probably the vectors in this ancient host-parasite association of a long-lived (>50 yr) host.  相似文献

Local adaptation theory predicts that, on average, most parasite species should be locally adapted to their hosts (more suited to hosts from local than distant populations). Local adaptation has been studied for many horizontally transmitted parasites, however, vertically transmitted parasites have received little attention. Here we present the first study of local adaptation in an animal/parasite system where the parasite is vertically transmitted. We investigate local adaptation and patterns of virulence in a crustacean host infected with the vertically transmitted microsporidian Nosema granulosis. Nosema granulosis is vertically transmitted to successive generations of its crustacean host, Gammarus duebeni and infects up to 46% of adult females in natural populations. We investigate local adaptation using artificial horizontal infection of different host populations in the UK. Parasites were artificially inoculated from a donor population into recipient hosts from the sympatric population and into hosts from three allopatric populations in the UK. The parasite was successfully established in hosts from all populations regardless of location, infecting 45% of the recipients. Nosema granulosis was vertically (transovarially) transmitted to 39% of the offspring of artificially infected females. Parasite burden (intensity of infection) in developing embryos differed significantly between host populations and was an order of magnitude higher in the sympatric population, suggesting some degree of host population specificity with the parasite adapted to its local host population. In contrast with natural infections, artificial infection with the parasite resulted in substantial virulence, with reduced host fecundity (24%) and survival (44%) of infected hosts from all the populations regardless of location. We discuss our findings in relation to theories of local adaptation and parasite-host coevolution.  相似文献
