Three new species of Mimosa sect. Mimosa (Leguminosae,Mimosoideae) from the campos rupestres of Minas Gerais,Brazil

Three new species of Mimosa sect. Mimosa ser. Mimosa subser. Polycephalae (Leguminosae, Mimosoideae) are described and illustrated. Mimosa canastrensis, Mimosa chrysothrix, and Mimosa decumbens are all from the campos rupestres of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Discussions about the distributions, habitat, and phenology of the species are provided, in addition to comparisons with similar taxa.     

A new species of Camptosema (Leguminosae: Lotoideae) from the Planalto of Brazil

Camptosema douradense (Leguminosae: Lotoideae) is described. The species is known only from the type locality and its vicinity, the summit of the Serra Dourada near the town of Goiás Velho in the State of Goiás, Brazil.     

Rubiacearum Americanarum Magna Hama Pars XXXII. New Species and a New Combination in Coussarea (Coussareeae) from Western South America

The Neotropical genus Coussarea is species-rich and widely distributed but not well known. Seven new species are described here, documented mainly by recent botanical exploration: C. acrensis is found in western Brazil, C. boliviensis and C. mexiae in the mountains of northwestern Bolivia, and C. camposiana, C. maranonensis, C. pseudopilosula, and C. vasqueziana in Peru. The new combination C. insolita is based on Rudgea insolita from Colombia.     

Four new species of genus Cordia (Cordiaceae, Boraginales) from Brazil

We describe four new species of Cordia (Cordiaceae) from Brazil: Cordia fusca, C. glabrifolia, C. restingae, and C. tarodae. These are illustrated, and data on habitat, phenology, and distribution are provided.     

Toward a census of genus Mimosa (Mimosaceae) in the Americas: a new species from Mexico (Baja California Sur) and two from planaltine Brazil (Goiás, Minas Gerais)

Three new species of Mimosa are described: M. (sect. Batocaulon) epitropica Barneby & León de la Luz from Mexico (Baja California Sur); and two from planaltine Brazil, M. (sect. Habbasia) bispiculata Barneby and M. (sect. Mimosa) demissa Barneby. The affinity of each is discussed, and all are illustrated.     

New taxa from the Venezuelan Guayana

Seven new taxa, mainly from the Guayana Highland of Venezuela, are described. These include four new species (Cottendorfia atrorosea, Navia emergens, Navia ovoidea, and Pitcairnia nematophora) and one new variety (Cottendorfia brachyphylla var. angustior) of Bromeliaceae, one new species (Swartzia cowanii) of Leguminosae, and one new species (Marlierea pudica) of Myrtaceae.     

New species of grasses in Arberella,Cryptochloa, and Raddia (Poaceae: Bambusoideae: Olyreae)

Two new species are described inArberella, one from Panama (Arberella lancifolia) and one from Bahia, Brazil (a. bahiensis), the latter representing a considerable extension of the known range of the genus.Cryptochloa decumbens, described from Panama, brings to ten the species recognized in this genus andRaddia angustifolia, from Bahia, increases to five the number of species in that genus. Each new species is fully illustrated and keyed.     

Two new mimosaceous trees from the American Tropics

Piptadenia (sect.Pityrocarpa)leucoxylon is described from the lower Orinoco basin in Venezuela, andPithecellobium (sect.Samanea)foederale from Distrito Federal, Brazil. Figures, diagnoses, and discussion of kinship are presented for each.     

Five new species of Solanum section Geminata (Solanaceae) from South America

Five new species of South AmericanSolanum are described:S. morii from French Guiana,S. superbum andS. tumescens from Bolivia,S. platycypellon from southern Bolivia and northern Argentina andS. gertii from southeastern Brazil. An illustration and distribution map for each species is provided and relationships to close relatives are discussed.     

A new series and three new species of Passiflora subgenus Astrophea from the Guianas

A new series,Passiflora ser.Carneae, and three new species are described inPassiflora subg.Astrophea:P. ascidia from Guyana and Venezuelan Guayana;P. balbis from Guyana, Venzuelan Guayana, and Amazonian Brazil; andP. saulensis from central French Guiana. A key to the 19 Guiana species ofPassiflora subg.Astrophea is provided.     

Five new species of Heteropterys (Malpighiaceae) from Central and South America

Five-new taxa ofHeteropterys H. B. K. subsect.Aptychia Nied. are described, illustrated, and mapped:H. andina from Peru;H. minutiflora from Costa Rica; andH. bullata, H. capixaba, andH. oberdanii, from the Atlantic coastal forest of Brazil. The affinities and diagnostic characters of each species are discussed.     

Novae Gesneriaceae neotropicarum VI: five new Gesneriaceae from northwestern South America

Columnea chrysotricha, C. cuspidata (bothColumnea sect.Collandra), andGasteranthus recurvatus are described from Colombia;C. sulcata (Columnea sect.Collandra) from Ecuador and Colombia; andDrymonia anisophylla from the Amazonian lowland rain forests of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.     

Taxonomic considerations of piptocarpha (Compositae: Vernonieae) and new taxa in Brazil

The distribution, affinities and delimiting characters and prospects for a new classification ofPiptocarpha are discussed. Two new species and one subspecies from Brazil are described and figured:Piptocarpha densifolia, P. ramboi andP. rotundifolia (Less.) Baker subsp.hatschbachii.     

Two new species of Paramachaerium (Leguminosae) and a brief résumé of the genus

Paramachaerium Ducke, a genus of neotropical trees, has been known hitherto from three species,P. schomburgkii (Guyana and Brazil),P. ormosioides (French Guiana and Brazil), andP. gruberi (Panamá). Two new species are herein described,P. krukovii (western Brazil) andP. schunkei (Peru).     

Novelties in Serjania (Sapindaceae)

Three new species ofSerjania (S. magnistipulata andS. mori from Bahía, Brazil andS. schunkei from Perú) are described, discussed, and illustrated.     

Four new diplostemonous species of mimosa (Mimosaceae) from Paraguay and eastern Bolivia

Four species of Mimosa, M. aureliana, M. chacoënsis, and M. tobatiensis known only from eastern Paraguay, and M. castanoclada known from northwestern Paraguay and eastern Bolivia, are described, figured, and compared with near kindred.     

Five new species of calea (Compositae: Heliantheae) from planaltine Brazil

Described from the Planalto of Brazil are:Calea quadrifolia, C. heteropappa, andC. abbreviata of sectionMeyeria,C. intermedia of sectionLemmatium, andC. lutea of sectionCalea. The relationships of each are discussed and a key to the nearest relatives of each is provided. Additionally, all butC. intermedia are illustrated.     

New Rubiaceae from the Brazilian Planalto

Three new species from Brazil,Hindsia irwinii, Manettia irwinii, andMitracarpus pusillus, are described. A new section,Brevicalyx, is erected for Hindsia irwinii, and another new section,Irwinianthus, forManettia irwinii.     

Two new species of Rhynchospora section Psilocarya (Cyperaceae)

Two new species ofRhynchospora sectionPsilocarya are described and illustrated.Rhynchospora eburnea is known from Amazonian Venezuela and nearby Brazil whileRhynchospora waspamensis is known only from eastern Zelaya, Nicaragua. These species are distinguished from most of the species of sectionPsilocarya by means of a key to the species found in the Americas south to and including the Amazon Basin.
