The ocular fundi of 1,151 apparently healthy colony-born cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) ranging in age from newborn to 19 years were examined using an ophthalmoscope. Two hundred and thirty-eight abnormal findings were recorded in 219 of the 1,151 monkeys. Of these, 23 were related to the optic disc and 115 to the retinal vessels. Of the remaining 100 abnormal findings, 91 were retinal degenerations and 9 were retinal hemorrhages. The 23 optic disc abnormalities consisted of 3 cases of micropapilla, 4 of ectasia and 16 of myelination of the retinal nerve fibers. Of the 115 retinal vascular abnormalities, 87 were arterial tortuosity, one was venous tortuosity, 2 were tortuosity of both artery and vein, 2 were artery-vein crossing, 20 were copper-wire artery, one was inosculation of the artery, one was vascularization of the vein and one was persistent hyaloid artery. Of the 91 retinal degenerations, one was degeneration of the periphery of the macular and the optic disc, 8 were macular degeneration and 82 were peripheral degeneration. Nine cases of retinal hemorrhages appeared under 6 years of age.  相似文献

目的研究人工驯养条件下食蟹猴B病毒抗体水平变化规律,便于有效控制自繁食蟹猴的BV感染率。方法随机选取409只对不同月龄自繁食蟹猴,采用BVELISA法进行BV抗体监测。结果新生仔猴刚出生时均携带不同程度的BV抗体,但随着月龄的增加,BV抗体水平开始下降,至5月龄时BV抗体阳性率降至最低(12.3%),之后BV抗体水平逐渐升高。结论人工驯养条件下食蟹猴B病毒抗体水平呈由高到低再升高的趋势,5月龄时断奶可最大限度地获得BV抗体阴性猴。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to obtain sonographic measures of normal kidneys in cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis). The kidneys of 27 healthy female cynomolgus monkeys were examined with two-dimensional, duplex and power Doppler under sedation or general anesthesia. Except for shape and sinus echogenicity, the kidneys of the cynomolgus monkey are morphologically similar to those of humans. Left kidney volume estimations (mean, 5.1 cm3) were significantly smaller (P<0.001) than those of the right (mean, 5.9 cm3), and both increased significantly with increasing body weight (P<0.05, r = 0.408). The mean resistive index (RI) of ketamine-sedated monkeys was 0.54, with an upper limit of 0.74 for the renal artery. The mean RI under general anesthesia was 0.65, with an upper limit of 0.77. Morphologic and Doppler ultrasound assessments of the kidneys can be consistently performed in the conscious cynomolgus monkey, and anesthesia can have hemodynamic effects that alter the Doppler arterial waveform.  相似文献

Cerebral artery structure has not been extensively studied in primates. The aim of this study was to examine the cerebrovascular anatomy of cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), which are one of the most commonly used primates in medical research on human diseases, such as cerebral infarction and subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this study, we investigated the anatomy and diameter of cerebral arteries from 48 cynomolgus monkey brain specimens. We found three anatomical differences in the vascular structure of this species compared to that in humans. First, the distal anterior cerebral artery is single. Second, the pattern in which both the anterior inferior cerebellar artery and posterior inferior cerebellar artery branch from the basilar artery is the most common. Third, the basilar artery has the largest diameter among the major arteries. We expect that this anatomical information will aid in furthering research on cerebrovascular disease using cynomolgus monkeys.  相似文献

目的建立食蟹猴的肾移植模型。方法通过显微外科手术对食蟹猴进行同种异体移植,将供体肾动脉、肾静脉分别端侧吻合到受体腹主动脉、下腔静脉,供体输尿管端端吻合到受体输尿管。结果154例肾移植食蟹猴无一只在手术过程中因意外死亡;无一只因手术感染死亡;无一只因手术并发症死亡;肾热缺血时间(30±4.5)min。结论应用食蟹猴建立肾移植模型,技术成熟,方法可靠。应用此模型评价新型免疫抑制药物,进行免疫耐受、异种移植研究可为临床试验提供更为准确可靠的依据。  相似文献

Fifteen healthy newborn rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) were given funduscopic examinations as part of a screening process before utilization in a research project. The hyaloid vasculature, a system that supplies blood to the embryonic ocular structures, was observed in each subject and was noted to regress clinically at two to three weeks of age. Although the phenomenon has been described morphologically in the literature, its clinical appearance has not been illustrated for the primate clinician.  相似文献

Foamy virus (FV) was recovered regularly from the leukocyte of rhesus and cynomolgus monkeys and somewhat less often from African green monkey leukocytes. Virus was found in virtually all organs of experimentally infected rhesus monkeys. No illness or pathologic abnormalities were noted in these animals or in any of the naturally infected animals in spite of the prolonged period of viral persistence in various organs and tissues.  相似文献

This report dealt with the change of body temperature (rectal temperature) in the newborn cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) with a view to take it as an index for their health conditions. The body temperatures of 183 newborn babies which were well cared for by their mothers was 33.0 to 37.7 degrees C about 10 hr after birth. On the other hand, the body temperatures of 21 newborn babies which were not well cared for by their mothers was very low, ranging from 24.1 to 34.8 degrees C. In five newborn monkeys which were well cared for, the body temperature averaged about 36 degrees C just after birth and then declined rapidly by 32 to 33 degrees C at 40 to 50 minutes after birth. Then it gradually began to rise, reaching 36 to 37 degrees C at 180 to 240 min after birth. In the other four newborn monkeys which were delivered by Caesarean section, the temperature was 37 to 38 degrees C just after birth. Then it decreased to 29 to 32 degrees C at 120 minutes after birth when the newborns remained singly in a cage without warming.  相似文献

In contrast to pig-tailed and cynomolgus macaques, which die in 6-10 days following infection with the SIV-PBj-14 isolate, only about 50% of rhesus succumbed to rapid disease. Using a CD45RA MAb that delineates memory (CD45RAlo), naive (CD45RAmed) and "activated" (CD45RAhi) T-cell subsets, it was seen that PBMC from pig-tailed and cynomolgus monkeys, unlike rhesus, have reduced CD4/CD8 ratios and a skewing of T cells towards CD45RAhi expression. Such preactivation of CD4+ cells could lead to enhanced viral replication and early death.  相似文献

The ability of the filarial nematode Loa loa to infect 2 species of primates was studied. The primate species selected were closely related to species known to be susceptible. A mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) and 6 cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascularis) were infected by subcutaneous injection of third-stage larvae of human L. loa from Gabon. The mandrill developed microfilaremia with an estimated prepatent period of 147 days, but microfilariae were not detected in any of the cynomolgus monkeys. Thus, mandrills appear permissive to human L. loa, whereas cynomolgus monkeys are not. Serum antibody responses were examined on western blots of adult L. loa antigens. Preinfection sera from all animals gave no reactions, but, after infection, sera from cynomolgus monkeys reacted more intensely and with more antigens than mandrill sera. Antibodies were still detectable in cynomolgus monkeys 15 mo postinfection. These reactions were compared with those found using human infection sera. Reactions with the cynomolgus monkey sera resembled those found with resistant endemic and amicrofilaremic human sera.  相似文献

Obesity is responsible for inducing various metabolic diseases. Laboratory-bred cynomolgus monkeys exhibit spontaneous onset of obesity. However, to date, no blood chemistry index to identify the state of obesity in cynomolgus monkeys has been determined. In the present study, to determine such an index, we measured the serum levels of two adipocyte-derived hormones, leptin and adiponectin, and evaluated the relationship between these hormones and other serum energy metabolic factors (i.e. insulin, total protein, glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride) as well as the percentage of body fat (%Fat) in mature cynomolgus monkeys. Both in females and males, leptin was positively correlated with insulin and %Fat, and adiponectin was negatively correlated with insulin and %Fat. In female cynomolgus monkeys, leptin, adiponectin, and glucose were selected as the most important determinants for %Fat in multiple regression analysis, and in male cynomolgus monkeys, leptin was selected. The ratio of leptin to adiponectin (L/A ratio) was significantly elevated in the animals with %Fat over 40 (P < 0.01). The results indicate that L/A ratio is a potential index for comprehensively identifying obesity in cynomolgus monkeys.  相似文献

A basic understanding of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I, which, together with T-cell receptors, is a key player in antigen recognition by cytotoxic T lymphocytes, is necessary to study the cellular immune response to intracellular pathogens. The MHC has hardly been reported in cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca facicularis), although cynomolgus monkeys have been frequently used as the surrogate animal model. We attempted to determine the nucleotide sequences of the MHC class I A locus of cynomolgus monkeys (Mafa-A) and eventually 34 independent sequences of Mafa-A were obtained from 29 cynomolgus monkeys. These 34 sequences were classified into 14 Mafa-A alleles according to the results of phylogenetic analyses using the neighbor-joining method. One to three Mafa-A alleles were obtained from a single animal. We also tried to establish a multiplex PCR-SSP method for convenient typing of Mafa-A alleles. cDNA from a family of cynomolgus monkeys, which is composed of four sirs and four dams, were examined by multiplex PCR-SSP. The result of multiplex PCR-SSP showed that an individual cynomolgus monkey had two or three Mafa-A alleles, suggesting that the A locus of cynomolgus monkeys might be duplicated.  相似文献

Summary A conus-like structure, the hyaloid conus, located on the optic nerve head of the mesopelagic deep-sea teleost Radiicephalus elongatus is described. The hyaloid conus consists of a tapering sheath of unpigmented, vascularized connective tissue enveloping the proximal part of the hyaloid artery which proceeds from the optic nerve head through the vitreous body to the ventrally located falciform process and lens muscles. The hyaloid artery passes through the hyaloid conus without giving off any branches. The conus vessels encircling the hyaloid artery receive arterial blood from the choroid via small arteries and are drained to the choroid by a single vein. The hyaloid conus is compared with the lacertilian conus papillaris. The function of the hyaloid conus is unknown. Because of its small dimensions relative to those of the eyeball and its few capillaries, it is unlikely that the hyaloid conus is a supplemental nutritive device for the retina.  相似文献

目的建立一种可靠的食蟹猴经股静脉导管长期给药的方法.方法选取20只雄性食蟹猴,麻醉后经股静脉造口,插入静脉导管,将植入式通道与导管连接并将其埋植于背部皮下,通过与植入式通道相连的输液泵进行给药.分别于术前1周、术后1周及术后2周测定血常规、血凝、生化等值.结果全部动物都能完成为期3个月的给药,手术感染率、导管堵塞率较低,分别为10%和5%.术后两周89.5%的生理指标与术前相比,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05).结论该实验采用的食蟹猴经股静脉插管并通过输液泵进行长期给药是一种安全、有效的方法,可广泛用于药理学及毒理学实验.  相似文献

In order to investigate whether the p53 gene product plays a role in normal eye development, age matched p53-deficient mice and wild-type controls were sacrificed from day 2 to day 21 after birth. Eyes were paraffin-embedded and sectioned. Serial sections were taken at the level of the tunica vasculosa lentis and the hyaloid artery. The terminal dUTP nick-end labelling technique (TUNEL) was used to detect the number of cells displaying DNA fragmentation within these structures. Eyes were also prepared for scanning electron microscopy and resin embedded for semi-thin sections. Adult wild-type mice and p53-deficient mice were examined ophthalmoscopically in vivo. Ophthalmoscopical examination of mice completely deficient in p53 revealed them to be normal except for the persistence of the hyaloid vasculature, a structure that normally regresses during eye development. In adult animals there was also a high frequency of cataracts. Using morphological assessment and TUNEL we could show that in normal mice, regression of the primary vitreous, which includes the hyaloid artery, the vasa hyaloidea propria as well as the tunica vasculosa lentis, occurs via apoptotic cell death within 5 - 6 weeks after birth. The number of TUNEL-positive cells within these structures was significantly reduced in the p53-deficient mice in which parts of the hyaloid vasculature persisted and developed into a fibro-vascular retrolental plaque analogous to persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous (PHPV) described in humans. As in humans, PHPV in mice resulted in the development of cataracts. We have identified a role for p53-dependent apoptosis in the regression of the hyaloid vasculature and tunica vasculosa lentis. Our results provide further evidence for the importance of p53 in normal development and provide the first detailed evidence of its role in postnatal development in remodelling the developing eye.  相似文献

Non-human primates are frequently used in toxicological studies the result of which are extrapolated to humans, but background data on drug metabolism ability among monkeys derived from different countries has not been published, especially on the key enzyme, cytochrome P450 (CYP450). We assessed the amounts of hepatic CYP450 obtained from cynomolgus monkeys of different ages and from different countries in this study. There were no regional differences of total P450 content, as well as major CYP450 isozymes (CYP 1A, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E1 and 3A4) in cynomolgus monkeys by westernblot analysis. Similarly, there were no significant differences with hybrid cynomolgus monkeys, but variations in individual values were large. As for aging, total P450 contents declined in old cynomolgus monkeys (12-32 years of age). These results indicate the usefulness of basic data of hepatic CYP450 obtained from cynomolgus monkeys of different ages and from different countries.  相似文献

Some of the important health issues for postmenopausal women include cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, breast cancer, and relief of menopausal symptoms. Ovariectomized cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) have many strengths as models for research in this area including a close phylogenetic relationship to humans, similarities in lipid/lipoprotein metabolism and coronary artery anatomy, similar skeletal anatomical and morphological characteristics, mammary glands with similar pathophysiological characteristics, and a 28-day menstrual cycle with similar hormonal fluctuations. Monkeys (macaques) also experience declining ovarian function and irregular menstrual cycles (natural menopause) when they approach 24 to 29 yr of age. However, because of their very short life span after natural menopause, ovariectomized macaques are used to model postmenopausal women. The cynomolgus monkey model has been useful in defining the potential cardiovascular benefits of soy foods and soy supplements; however, it remains unclear whether the observations are generalizable to all women or only to those who, like cynomolgus monkeys, convert the soy isoflavone daidzein to the metabolite equol. Particularly important has been the use of the cynomolgus monkey model to understand the effects of soy on breast health. There is evidence from a cynomolgus monkey trial to suggest that soy/soy phytoestrogens have no estrogen agonist effects for breast. Finally, soy/soy phytoestrogens do not appear to be an adequate alternative to postmenopausal hormone therapy. Nevertheless, important attributes of soy have been identified, and it may have potential as a complementary component to hormone therapy.  相似文献

Microscopic examination of 45 nasal swab samples of cynomolgus monkeys revealed that three of them were positive for Anatrichosoma sp. In the tissue sections of nasal mucosa collected from positive monkeys, female worms were consistently seen in the stratified squamous epithelial layer of the nasal mucosa. Epithelial layer thickening and parakeratosis were evident in nasal mucosa adjacent to female worms. Male worms were consistently seen in the submucosa and chronic inflammatory reactions was observed around them.  相似文献

A B-lymphoblastoid cell line (Ts-B) was established from lymph nodes of an apparently healthy cynomolgus monkey. The cells were demonstrated to contain Epstein-Barr virus-related antigens.
