This communication presents the level ofpollen in the atmosphere of Buca–Izmir, Turkey.The evaluation includes qualitative as well asquantitative results. Studies were carried outduring 1996–1997 using gravimetric method. Datawas recorded from lower (BUL. 1.60 m) andhigher (BHL. 20 m) levels. Aeropalynologicalresults revealed that the atmosphere in thisarea abounds in pollen from 55 taxa out ofwhich 24 are woody and 31 herbaceous. At bothlevels plant groups with higher pollendensities per square centimeter were trees(BHL. 89%, BUL. 73.7%), other herbs (BHL.6.6%, BUL. 20.4%), Gramineae (BHL. 3.8%,BUL. 4.9%) and unidentified taxa (BHL. 0.6%,BUL. 1%) respectively. However, at lowerlevel Pinus, Quercus, Oleaceae,Morus, Centaurea, Gramineae,Chenopodiceae/Amaranthaceae showed highestconcentration; whereasCupressaceae/Taxaceae, Quercus,Gramineae, Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae andPlantago were dominant at higher level.The concentration of allergic taxaChenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae, Cupressaceae/Taxaceae; Gramineae, Morus, Oleaceae, Pinus, Plantago and Quercus was highin the atmosphere of the study area. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of airborne pollen and spores was carried out over 2 years (from September 1987 to August 1989) in the city of León. Slides were prepared daily using a volumetric pollen trap, which was placed on the Faculty of Veterinary Science building (University of León) 12m above ground-level. Fifty-one pollen types were observed; the most important of these were: Cupressaceae during the winter,Pinus andQuercus in spring, and Poaceae, Leguminosae and Chenopodiaceae in the summer. The results also showed the existence of a rich mould spore assemblage in the atmosphere. The group of Amerospores (Penicillium, Aspergillus andCladosporium) as well as Dictyospores (Alternaria) were the most abundant;Puccinia was common in the air in August. Fluctuations in the total pollen and spores m3 of air were compared with meteorological parameters (temperature, relative humidity and rainfall). From the daily sampling of the atmosphere of León, considering the maximum and minimum temperature and duration of rainfall, the start of the pollen grain season was observed generally to coincide with a rise in temperature in the absence of rain. 相似文献

The composition and seasonal distribution of airborne pollen grains in the atmosphere of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, has been
studied between June 2001 and December 2003 using the Rotorod sampler (model 40). The results show that the main pollen types
during this period were Cupressaceae, Fraxinus, Myrtaceae, Poaceae, Amaranthus/Chenopodiaceae, Pinus, Urticaceae, Ulmus, Olea and Styphnolobium. The highest concentrations occurred from August to December (end of winter and spring), accounting for 80% of the total
annual pollen count. The greatest diversity was found in the spring, with the major of pollen coming from short-flowering
plant types, such as Populus, Acer, Platanus, Juglans, Tamarix, Ailanthus and Typha. The potential sources of pollen from woody ornamental species are Cupressus sempervirens, Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. whereas those from herbaceous species are the Chenopodiaceae and Poaceae, which are found within the city and also in the
surrounding natural vegetation, and the Urticaceae, which are only present in the city. Marked annual differences were noted
during the study period. The increase in 2002 may have been due to the abundant rainfall that occurred prior to the spring
season, which would have favored the vegetative stage and flower development of plants. The decrease in pollen concentration

Fifty‐one regional honey samples, collected mainly from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh districts, were studied to determine the pollen composition. Pollen spectra of the local honeys varied according to the vegetation type utilized by the bees within this floristically diverse region. Eight pollen types from Uttarakhand and seven from Uttar Pradesh were the predominant pollen types in honey and included both local naturalized flora as well as cultivated crops. The investigation revealed that in addition to already known bee forage (e.g. Brassica, Coriandrum, and Litchi) some other species including Eucalyptus, Callistemon that are planted for social forestry programs, are also heavily utilized as pollen and nectar sources by honey bees in urban and semi urban areas. Naturalized flora including Myrica, Rumex, Erigeron are also utilized and therefore are important for apiculture in these regions. 相似文献

Contrary to traditional views, molecular evidence indicates that the protostomian ventral nerve cord plus apical brain is
homologous with the vertebrates’ dorsal spinal cord plus brain. The origin of the protostomian central nervous system from
a larval apical organ plus longitudinal areas along the fused blastopore lips has been documented in many species. The origin
of the chordate central nervous system is more enigmatic. About a century ago, Garstang proposed that the ciliary band of
a dipleurula-type larva resembling an echinoderm larva should have moved dorsally and fused to form the neural tube of the
ancestral chordate. This idea is in contrast to a number of morphological observations, and it is here proposed that the neural
tube evolved through lateral fusion of a ventral, postoral loop of the ciliary band in a dipleurula larva; the stomodaeum
should move from the ventral side via the anterior end to the dorsal side, which faces the substratum in cephalo- chordates
and vertebrates. This is in accordance with the embryological observations and with the molecular data on the dorsoventral
orientation. The molecular observations further indicate that the anterior part of the insect brain is homologous with the
anterior parts of the vertebrate brain. This leads to the hypothesis that the two organs evolved from the same area in the
latest common bilaterian ancestor, just anterior to the blastopore, with the protostome brain developing from the anterior
rim of the blastopore (i.e. in front of the protostome mouth) and the chordate brain from an area in front of the blastopore,
but behind the mouth (i.e. behind the deuterostome mouth).

Pollen counts in Burgundy were monitored by means of four Hirst volumetric traps. Their analysis revealed a sharp rise of Ambrosia from 1996 to 1997. The minimum amount of ragweed pollen likely to provoke allergies (13 grains m–3) was reached or exceeded several days every year, but without leading to clinical symptoms. The circadian variation of Ambrosia pollen showed two peaks: the first one in the morning was suggested to coincide with local pollination, although the second one, in the afternoon, seemed to result from a long range transport which was confirmed by the study of wind roses. 相似文献

The pollen spectra of air and surface soil samples from a rooftop (at 14 m) and from ground level (at 1.6 m) in the suburbs of Vienna (Austria) were compared. Two soil samples and two air samples were taken on four different days to account for possible differences: in winter when no pollination occurred (reference day), in spring during the main flowering of Betula (birch day), in spring/summer during the main flowering of Poaceae (grass day), and in autumn during the main flowering of Ambrosia (ragweed day). Thirty-five different pollen types were used to describe the pollen spectra. Frequencies of certain pollen types reflect a seasonal impact on both the surface soil and air samples and show a similarity between air and soil samples on most of the days. However, the seasonal impact is higher in the air samples and shows a high consistency for ground and rooftop level. Kendall’s tau correlation coefficients further substantiate the similarities of the samples especially for the pollen season days. Exceptions include the winter day when pollination was low and the air samples recorded nearly no pollen at all, and the ragweed day when Ambrosia pollen was abundant in three of four samples but not in the ground surface soil sample. Thus, (1) air and surface pollen samples record similar signals during the pollen season but not during the ragweed and winter season and (2) air and surface pollen samples show the impact of local vegetation also in pollen traps located at different heights. 相似文献

Pollen of grasses (Poaceae) is one of the most important airborne allergen sources worldwide. The aim of the study was to determine diurnal, day‐to‐day, weekly, monthly and annual pollen variation, and the effect of selected meteorological parameters on atmospheric pollen concentrations in Zagreb. A preliminary study was carried out during four seasons (2002 – 2005), using a 7‐day VPPS 2000 Hirst volumetric pollen trap. Total annual grass pollen concentrations in Zagreb were constant (2 673 – 3 074 p.g.m?3), with a relative drop in 2004 (1 196 p.g.m?3). The beginning of the grass pollen season is usually observed when the average daily temperature exceeds 13.5°C (max. daily temp. 19.5°C), without precipitation. In all four study years the absolute peak of concentrations occurs in the second half of May. The length of pollen season during the study period was 157 – 173 days. A high variability was observed in the maximal concentration and in the number of days when grass pollen concentration exceeded the threshold value of 30 p.g.m?3 (9 – 40 days). Statistically significant correlations were found between airborne grass pollen concentrations and air temperature, level of precipitation and relative humidity. 相似文献

Atmospheric pollen was collected with a Burkard spore trap in Ankara, Turkey, from January 1990 to January 1993. A total of 135.787 grains/m3 belonging to 47 taxa were observed. The local pollen season started in February in 1990 and 1991 and in March in 1992. Relatively low pollen concentrations were recorded in 1990 and 1992, probably because of precipitation and low wind speed in the spring. A relatively high pollen concentration was recorded in 1991 which could be caused by higher wind speed in the spring and more precipitation during the winter. Cupressaceae/Taxaceae, Pinaceae, Gramineae, Betula, Moraceae, Platanus, Populus, Acer, Quercus, Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae, Plantago, Rumex are found to be the dominant pollen types in the atmosphere in Ankara. The pollen composition generally reflects the vegetation of gardens, parks and roadsides, while the natural steppe vegetation of the area around Ankara is not properly represented. 相似文献

Germinating pollen from larch (Larix occidentalis), Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) and white pine (Pinus monticola) were co-cultured with megagametophytes dissected from cones of other genera (Pseudotsuga menziesii, Larix×eurolepis and Pinus monticola). Pollen was presented to megagametophytes possessing archegonia which were either alive, degenerating or dead. In addition,
pollen was presented to fertilized megagametophytes and to megagametophytes that had been cut in half. Megagametophyte penetration
by pollen tubes and male gamete release into archegonia were verified by serial sections of glycomethacrylate-embedded specimens.
Pollen tubes penetrated through any part of the apex of the megagametophyte. Division of the body cell into the two gametes
was regularly observed. Delivery of gametes was confirmed between spruce and larch. Pollen tubes also penetrated fertilized
megagametophytes, dead or degenerating archegonia as well as wounded and/or cut surfaces. This demonstrates the inability
of the male gametophyte to optimize its mating efforts, since it is unable to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy
archegonia. The megagametophyte cells are unable to optimize male selection. They may produce secretions of a generally attractive
nature, as pollen is attracted to the apex of the megagametophyte, but archegonia themselves do not produce pollen-specific
signals of either a promotive or inhibitory nature. These results open new avenues for the development of novel breeding strategies
where natural breeding barriers may be bypassed.

The incidence of allergic diseases has been increasing in recent decades, in part due to increased exposure to aeroallergens, particularly pollen. Allergic diseases have a major burden on the health care system, with annual costs in the USA alone exceeding $30 billion. There is evidence that the production of aeroallergens, including pollen, is increasing in response to environmental and climatic change, which has important implications for the treatment of allergy sufferers. In this study, pollen data from a Rotorod sampler in Raleigh, North Carolina, was used to characterize and examine trends in the atmospheric pollen seasons for trees, grasses, and weeds over the period 1999–2012. The influence of mean monthly antecedent and concurrent temperature and precipitation on the timing, duration, and severity of the pollen seasons was assessed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression models. An increasing trend was noted in seasonal tree pollen concentrations, while seasonal and peak weed pollen concentrations declined over time. The atmospheric pollen seasons for grasses and weeds trended toward earlier start dates and longer durations, while the tree pollen season trended toward an earlier end date. Peak daily tree pollen concentrations were strongly associated with antecedent temperature and precipitation, while peak daily grass pollen concentrations were strongly associated with concurrent precipitation. The strongest relationships between climate and weed pollen were associated with the timing and duration of the pollen season, with drier antecedent and warmer concurrent conditions tied to longer weed pollen seasons. 相似文献

The heterocystous cyanobacterium Richelia intracellularis Schmidt 1901 is well known for its capability to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N2) in oligotrophic waters. Symbiotic associations of Richelia intracellularis with the diatoms Rhizosolenia hebetata, Rhizosolenia clevei, Rhizosolenia cylindrus and Hemiaulus membranaceus is reported for the first time from the coastal waters of South Andaman, India. In these the symbiotic associations, variations were observed in the number of vegetative cells, trichomes, and the shape of the heterocysts. The highest number of trichomes was observed in Rhizosolenia clevei (14) per host. The trichomes consisted of 9–10 vegetative cells and a spherical heterocyst that was orientiated toward one end of the host diatom cell. In Rhizosolenia hebetata, three trichomes of Richelia intracellularis were present, one trichome at one end with 7–8 vegetative cells and two trichomes at the other end. In Rhizosolenia cylindrus, two trichomes of Richelia were observed, with a spherical heterocyst and 5–6 vegetative cells. An association between Hemiaulus membranaceus and Richelia intracellularis was also observed but with less frequency. Trichomes were observed in the centre of the diatom. By using the cell-specific rates, the amount of new N provided by the Diatom-Diazotrophic Associations was estimated. Wheat–soybean is one of the most dominant cropping systems on the Vertisols of central India. Cultivation of durum wheat in winter season (November to April) has a considerable potential due to congenial climate, while soybean in rainy
season (June to October) has witnessed a phenomenal growth in the last two decades in the region. Beside including a legume
(soybean) in sequence with a cereal crop (wheat), combined use of available organic sources along with chemical fertilizers
may prove beneficial for long-term productivity and sustainability of the system. A long-term experiment was conducted during
1995–2000 on the fine-textured Vertisols at Indore, India to study the effect of combined use of farmyard manure (FYM), poultry
manure, vermicompost and biofertilizers (Azotobacter + phosphate solubilizing bacteria) with 0.5 and 1.0 NPK (120 kg N + 26.2 kg P + 33.3 kg K ha−1) on wheat, and residual effect on following soybean. Grain yield of aestivum wheat in the initial 2 years and durum wheat in the later 3 years was significantly increased with 0.5 NPK + poultry manure at 2.5 t ha−1 or FYM at 10 t ha−1 compared with 0.5 NPK alone, and was on par with 1.0 NPK. However, the highest productivity was obtained when these organic
sources were applied along with 1.0 NPK. Quality parameters of durum wheat viz protein content, hectolitre weight and sedimentation value showed improvement, and yellow berry content was significantly
lower with combined use of NPK + organic sources compared with NPK alone and control. Soybean did not show much response to
residual effect of nutrient management treatments applied to wheat. Wheat gave higher profit than soybean, particularly in
the later years due to lower grain yields and market price of soybean. However, the superiority of FYM as well as poultry
manure along with 1.0 NPK was evident on the overall profitability of the system. Various soil fertility parameters including
chemical and biological properties showed conspicuous improvement over the initial status under the treatments of FYM and
poultry manure. Sustainability yield index was maximum under 1.0 NPK, followed by 1.0 NPK + poultry manure or FYM. It was
concluded that application of available organic sources, particularly FYM and poultry manure along with full recommended dose
of NPK fertilizers to wheat was essential for improving productivity, grain quality, profitability, soil health and sustainability
of wheat–soybean system. 相似文献

Monoclonal antibodies that recognize pectins were used for the localization of esterified (JIM7) and acidic, unesterified
(JIM5) forms of pectin in pollen tube walls of Ornithogalum virens L. (x = n = 3). The results indicated that the distribution of the two forms of pectin in the pollen tube wall depended on
the medium (liquid or solid) used for pollen germination. In pollen tubes grown in the liquid medium, the localization of
JIM7 was limited to the very tip of the pollen tube, whereas the localization of JIM5 indicated a uniform distribution of
unesterified pectins in the very tip of the tube and along the subapical parts of the tube wall. In tubes germinated on the
medium stabilized with agar (1–2%) the localization of JIM7 and JIM5 indicated the presence of both forms of pectin in the
tube tip and along the whole length of the pollen tube wall in a ring-like pattern. Thus, the localization of esterified pectins
in the sub-apical part of the pollen tube wall, below the apex of the tube, is described for the first time. Measurements
of the growth rates of pollen tubes growing on the two types of medium indicated that oscillations in tube growth rate occur
but these do not coincide with the pattern of pectin distribution in the tube wall. Our results complement the previous data
obtained for the localization of JIM5 and JIM7 in pollen tube walls of other plant species. (Y.-Q. Li et al. 1994, Sex Plant
Reprod 7: 145–150) and provide new insight into an understanding of the construction of the pollen tube wall and the physiology
of pollen grain germination.

We hypothesize that floral features promoting pollen competition in angiosperms may have evolved, in some cases, in response to selection generated by the negative effects of inbreeding, at least in plants with mixed-mating systems. Screening of haploid genotypes through pollen competition may purge recessive (or additive) deleterious alleles that are expressed in haploid pollen and hence may reduce the fitness cost of self-pollination, geitonogamy, or biparental inbreeding. We tested one prediction of this hypothesis, that offspring produced by more intense competition among self-pollen have higher fitness than offspring produced by less intense competition. Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae) flowers were pollinated with pollen from other flowers on the same plant (geitonogamous self-fertilization). Those flowers experiencing more intense pollen competition as a result of low pollen dispersion (positional variance) on the stigma produced heavier seeds and seedlings with faster-growing radicles than flowers experiencing less intense pollen competition (high pollen dispersion), as predicted by our hypothesis. 相似文献
