Understanding how plant communities respond to plant invasions is important both for understanding community structure and for predicting future ecosystem change. In a system undergoing intense plant invasion for 25 years, we investigated patterns of community change at a regional scale. Specifically, we sought to quantify how tussock grassland plant community structure had changed and whether changes were related to increases in plant invasion. Frequency data for all vascular plants were recorded on 124, permanent transects in tussock grasslands across the lower eastern South Island of New Zealand measured three times over a period of 25 years. Multivariate analyses of species richness were used to describe spatial and temporal patterns in the vegetation. Linear mixed‐effects models were used to relate temporal changes in community structure to the level and rate of invasion of three dominant invasive species in the genus Hieracium while accounting for relationships with other biotic and abiotic variables. There was a strong compositional gradient from exotic‐ to native‐dominated plant communities that correlated with increasing elevation. Over the 25 years, small‐scale species richness significantly decreased and then increased again; however, these changes differed in different plant communities. Exotic species frequency consistently increased on some transects and consistently declined on others. Species richness changes were correlated with the level of Hieracium invasion and abiotic factors, although the relationship with Hieracium changed from negative to positive over time. Compositional changes were not related to measured predictors. Our results suggest that observed broad‐scale fluctuations in species richness and community composition dynamics were not driven by Hieracium invasion. Given the relatively minor changes in community composition over time, we conclude that there is no evidence for widespread degradation of these grasslands over the last 25 years. However, because of continuing weed invasion, particularly at lower elevations, impacts may emerge in the longer term.  相似文献

The alpine zone is examined at meso‐ and microscales in southern Tierra del Fuego (54°49′S), where the full zone is expressed. Mesoscale patterns were studied on opposing aspects, and microscale patterns were studied on a series of solifluction terraces, in a hanging valley overlooking the Beagle Channel. Plant cover and life form data were collected within 50‐m altitudinal bands on north and south aspects and comprehensive plant lists were compiled for each band. Topography and associated surface cover were recorded on the terraces. Six alpine plant communities, in lower and upper floristic zones, were differentiated with multivariate analyses and significantly related to five ecological factors. Equivalent communities were separated by approximately 185 m altitude on opposing aspects, which related to a soil temperature difference of approximately 3.0°C. The richness (and range) of 80 local vascular taxa (18.6% of the regional flora), decreased with increasing altitude (6.6 per 100 m); however, richness differed significantly with aspect (north: 5.6, south: 7.5). Upper altitudinal limits (approximately 1250 m a.s.l.), were associated with a midsummer isotherm of approximately 1.7°C. Chamaephytes and hemicryptophytes dominated throughout but the tall tussock form was conspicuously absent. Reasons for this are discussed in the context of the Nothofagus treeline, which conformed to a midsummer isotherm of only approximately 6.0°C. Such patterns are at variance with those found in the oceanic subantarctic islands, other oceanic perhumid temperate mountain regions and tropical high mountains. However, the microscale pattern of fines, pebbles, stones and rock across the active solifluction terraces, with dense vegetation on their steep risers, had a clear affinity with that of other subantarctic regions. Inferences that alpine systems of the Southern Hemisphere are necessarily equivalent to those at similar northern latitudes are cautioned against. Likewise, such comparisons within the Southern Hemisphere may also be invalid.  相似文献

采用陷阱法和目测法系统研究了红火蚁入侵玉米地对蜘蛛类群多样性的影响.期间共调查到蜘蛛8科16种,其中红火蚁发生区有6科10种,药防区4科5种,对照区8科11种;蜘蛛种类以游猎型为主,隶属于猫蛛科和跳蛛科,优势种包括斜纹猫蛛、乔氏蚁蛛和蚁蛛.在红火蚁发生区,从玉米心叶后期开始红火蚁种群数量不断增加,在玉米抽穗开花期达到最大,为225头,之后缓慢降低,相应的猫蛛属蜘蛛种群数量则逐渐降低,降幅达79.2%;而蚁蛛属蜘蛛的种群数量变化不大.随着玉米植株的生长,红火蚁发生区和药防区的蜘蛛种类、多样性指数和均匀度指数逐渐降低,生态优势度指数却不断升高,而对照区相关指标则相反.表明红火蚁入侵显著改变了玉米地蜘蛛的类群结构.  相似文献

The invasion by alien macrophytes in aquatic ecosystems may produce a strong alteration of the native aquatic vegetation leading to heavy impacts for both plant and faunal native diversity. Myriophyllum aquaticum is an aquatic plant native of Southern America, invasive in several part of the world. We studied the effects of M. aquaticum invasion on plant and macro-arthropod communities in the canals around a protected wetland in the Mediterranean basin. We sampled plant and macro-arthropod communities in 10 transects in invaded and non-invaded tracts of the canals. We assessed the differences in plant and macro-arthropod species richness, diversity, taxonomic diversity and species composition between invaded and non-invaded habitats by means of univariate and multivariate analyses. Our study shows a significant loss of plant diversity between non-invaded to invaded sites, leading to communities numerically and taxonomically impoverished and highly divergent in the species composition. We also detected significant differences in arthropod species composition between invaded and non-invaded transects. Some taxa such as mosquitoes and malacostraca were more frequent in the M. aquaticum-dominated stands. Furthermore, the study shows a positive relation between invaded habitats and juvenile individuals of the invasive alien crayfish Procambarus clarkii.  相似文献

So far, effects of species richness on ecosystem functioning have mainly been investigated in the short term in experimental communities from which invasion was prevented. We kept the local species pools of experimental grassland communities with 1, 2, 4, 8, and 32 species closed for five years and subsequently opened them for invasion by cessation of weeding. As long as communities were weeded, extinctions were rare but positively related to species richness, diversity-productivity relationships were positive, and more diverse systems had a greater temporal stability. Following cessation of weeding, species-poor communities were more prone to invasion. However, invasion increased extinction especially in species-rich communities. Within two years, differences in species richness and biomass production between sets of communities of different initial species richness disappeared and the positive diversity-productivity relationship was no longer detectable whereas species compositions remained distinct. This indicates that the positive diversity-productivity relationships during the weeding phase were mainly controlled by species richness.Bis anhin wurden die Effekte der Artenvielfalt auf das Funktionieren von Ökosystemen vor allem in kurzfristigen Experimenten untersucht, in denen die Einwanderung von Pflanzenarten in die bestehenden Gesellschaften verhindert wurde. Im vorliegenden Versuch wurden die lokalen Artenpools von 1, 2, 4, 8 und 32 Arten unserer experimentellen Graslandgesellschaften während 5 Jahren künstlich geschlossen gehalten und danach geöffnet indem nicht mehr gejätet wurde. Solange die Gesellschaften gejätet wurden, gab es wenige Aussterbeereignisse, die aber positiv mit der Artenvielfalt korreliert waren. Die Beziehung zwischen Diversität und Produktivität war positiv und Systeme höherer Diversität zeigten eine größere zeitliche Stabilität. Nach der Aufgabe des Jätens nahm die Einwanderung vor allem in artenarmen Gesellschaften zu. Die Einwanderung erhöhte jedoch besonders das Aussterben in ursprünglich artenreichen Gesellschaften. Innerhalb von zwei Jahren verschwanden die Unterschiede in der Artenzahl und Biomasseproduktion zwischen den verschiedenen Graslandgesellschaften und eine positive Beziehung zwischen Diversität und Produktivität war nicht mehr feststellbar. Die Artenzusammensetzung der Versuchsflächen blieb jedoch unterschiedlich. Das deutet darauf hin, daß die positive Beziehung zwischen Diversität und Produktivität während der ersten Phase des Experiments vor allem durch die Artenzahl und nicht durch die Artenzusammensetzung hervorgerufen wurde.  相似文献

We investigated the responses of the ground vegetation in a 17‐year‐old coastal dune forest plant community to four levels of experimentally applied livestock grazing (three grazing levels and one ungrazed control) from May 1994 to March 1996. The effects of grazing were apparently subordinate to site‐specific intrinsic vegetation change and there were some indications that rainfall interacted with grazing level. Grazing had some apparent but no significant effects on plant species composition, significantly affected plant species richness over time, and significantly increased the range of species richness and vegetation cover values as well as the relative abundance and numbers of plant species with erect growth forms. Vegetation cover changed significantly over time, independently of grazing. Our results point to two important, easily measured mechanisms for the conservation management of coastal dune forests – the interaction of disturbance type with plant growth form and the increase of variation in community structural variables under disturbance. These mechanisms, although they potentially have wide application and predictive power, have not been studied adequately.  相似文献

Aims In the context of global change, the impacts of forest structure alteration on climbing plants in extra-tropical ecosystems are poorly understood. It also remains little explored, the functional strategies among climbing plant species and its relationship with the local-scale distribution of climbing plant communities. Here, we aimed at three goals: (i) we studied how climbing plant community composition responds to the modification of the original forest structure in a subtropical dry forest; (ii) we characterized climbing plant species according to functional traits related to the acquisition and use of resources; and (iii) we examined whether functional strategies at the community level are also responding to vegetation structure change, a much less addressed topic in the ecology of climbing plants.  相似文献

Aim Increasingly, ecologists are using evolutionary relationships to infer the mechanisms of community assembly. However, modern communities are being invaded by non‐indigenous species. Since natives have been associated with one another through evolutionary time, the forces promoting character and niche divergence should be high. On the other hand, exotics have evolved elsewhere, meaning that conserved traits may be more important in their new ranges. Thus, co‐occurrence over sufficient time‐scales for reciprocal evolution may alter how phylogenetic relationships influence assembly. Here, we examined the phylogenetic structure of native and exotic plant communities across a large‐scale gradient in species richness and asked whether local assemblages are composed of more or less closely related natives and exotics and whether phylogenetic turnover among plots and among sites across this gradient is driven by turnover in close or distant relatives differentially for natives and exotics. Location Central and northern California, USA. Methods We used data from 30 to 50 replicate plots at four sites and constructed a maximum likelihood molecular phylogeny using the genes: matK, rbcl, ITS1 and 5.8s. We compared community‐level measures of native and exotic phylogenetic diversity and among‐plot phylobetadiversity. Results There were few exotic clades, but they tended to be widespread. Exotic species were phylogenetically clustered within communities and showed low phylogenetic turnover among communities. In contrast, the more species‐rich native communities showed higher phylogenetic dispersion and turnover among sites. Main conclusions The assembly of native and exotic subcommunities appears to reflect the evolutionary histories of these species and suggests that shared traits drive exotic patterns while evolutionary differentiation drives native assembly. Current invasions appear to be causing phylogenetic homogenization at regional scales.  相似文献

Calafate (Berberis microphylla G. Forst.) is a spontaneous shrub grown in the Patagonian region, from which berries are traditionally harvested for different purposes. This study aims to investigate on the spatial genetic structure of calafate populations grown in southern Tierra del Fuego and their morphological and genetic diversity. A first step of the research focused on 23 putative populations screened by a landscape genetic approach based on 82 geo-referenced and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA marker characterized plants. The second phase regarded the analysis of the morphological characteristics of fruits, shoots and leaves observed on a subset of 39 plants. Taking into account multiple similarity between pairs and sub-sets of accessions, the observed differences have been associated to geographical and environmental conditions. The results allowed to postulate the existence of homogeneous populations within the studied plant sets and to formulate hypothesis on the evolution of B. microphylla in that area. No association between genetic and morphologic distances of the accessions has been observed.  相似文献

三峡水库的运行,改变了其坝下游的水沙情势,使坝下游沙洲生境呈现出明显的水淹强度梯度变化。阐明这一梯度变化下沙洲植被组成、分布和性状结构特征,是理解植被与沙洲稳定关系的基础,更是阐明三峡工程对长江中下游地区生态环境影响的核心内容之一。选取上荆江河段第一个江心洲-太平口心滩作为研究样地,通过植被组成和分布特征的调查,对不同水淹强度下群落物种组成、多样性和功能特征进行了深入分析。结果表明:太平口心滩植被组成以草本植物为主,稀布小型灌木川三蕊柳。调查共记录物种21科33属39种,以禾本科和菊科植物为主要优势种。轻微(20-40 d)和极强水淹强度(100+d)条件下的生境物种组成同其他水淹强度生境具有显著性差异,轻微水淹强度下牛鞭草和节节草为主要优势种,极强水淹强度下虉草为主要优势种。不同水淹强度下物种多样性指数差异显著,功能多样性指数和生物多样性指数趋势基本一致。随着水淹时间的延长,植被更倾向于表现出花果期位于出露期、植株高度更加低矮、须根系、进行营养繁殖的功能性状。江心洲植被的群落结构和功能性状特征都在水淹梯度下呈现出明显的梯度变化特征。这些研究结果表明水淹强度的梯度变化是沙洲植物群落变化的重要驱动因子,为进一步研究沙洲植物群落动态变化以及沙洲植被协同演替机制,明晰大坝影响下的生态环境变化提供重要依据。  相似文献

The impact of an exotic species in natural systems may be dependent not only on invader attributes but also on characteristics of the invaded community. We examined impacts of the invader bitou bush, Chrysanthemoides monilifera ssp. rotundata , in fore and hind dune communities of coastal New South Wales, Australia. We compared invader impacts on vegetation structure, richness of both native and exotic growth forms and community variability in fore and hind dunes. We found that impacts of bitou invasion were context specific: in fore dune shrublands, functionally distinct graminoid, herb and climber rather than shrub growth forms had significantly reduced species richness following bitou invasion. However, in forested hind dunes, the functionally similar native shrub growth form had significantly reduced species richness following bitou invasion. Density of vegetation structure increased at the shrub level in both fore and hind dune invaded communities compared with non-invaded communities. Fore dune ground-level vegetation density declined at invaded sites compared with non-invaded sites, reflecting significant reductions in herb and graminoid species richness. Hind dune canopy-level vegetation density was reduced at invaded compared with non-invaded sites. Bitou bush invasion also affected fore dune community variability with significant increases in variability of species abundances observed in invaded compared with non-invaded sites. In contrast, variability among all hind dune sites was similar. The results suggest that effects of bitou bush invasion are mediated by the vegetation community. When bitou bush becomes abundant, community structure and functioning may be compromised.  相似文献

用物种多样性指数(Simpson指数和Shannon指数)、均匀度指数(Pielou均匀度)和物种丰富度,对佛坪国家级自然保护区主要高等植物群落物种多样性进行了测度。结果表明:森林群落的多样性程度高于灌丛和草甸,落叶阔叶林高于针叶林,栎林高于杨桦林。群落物种多样性有随海拔高度的升高而降低的趋势。物种多样性在森林群落垂直结构上的分布特点,表现为一般乔木层与灌木层接近但低于草本层。  相似文献

Aim In recent years evidence has accumulated that plant species are differentially sorted from regional assemblages into local assemblages along local‐scale environmental gradients on the basis of their function and abiotic filtering. The favourability hypothesis in biogeography proposes that in climatically difficult regions abiotic filtering should produce a regional assemblage that is less functionally diverse than that expected given the species richness and the global pool of traits. Thus it seems likely that differential filtering of plant traits along local‐scale gradients may scale up to explain the distribution, diversity and filtering of plant traits in regional‐scale assemblages across continents. The present work aims to address this prediction. Location North and South America. Methods We combine a dataset comprising over 5.5 million georeferenced plant occurrence records with several large plant functional trait databases in order to: (1) quantify how several critical traits associated with plant performance and ecology vary across environmental gradients; and (2) provide the first test of whether the woody plants found within 1° and 5° map grid cells are more or less functionally diverse than expected, given their species richness, across broad gradients. Results The results show that, for many of the traits studied, the overall distribution of functional traits in tropical regions often exceeds the expectations of random sampling given the species richness. Conversely, temperate regions often had narrower functional trait distributions than their smaller species pools would suggest. Main conclusion The results show that the overall distribution of function does increase towards the equator, but the functional diversity within regional‐scale tropical assemblages is higher than that expected given their species richness. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that abiotic filtering constrains the overall distribution of function in temperate assemblages, but tropical assemblages are not as tightly constrained.  相似文献

进入21世纪以来, 中国荒漠化恢复取得显著成效, 荒漠化、沙化土地面积持续减少, 植被覆盖度大幅提升, 但关于植被恢复过程中生物多样性如何变化的研究不足, 这制约着对荒漠化恢复成效的全面评估。本文基于群落调查和叶功能性状(叶片厚度、叶片干物质含量、比叶面积和叶片密度)的测定, 分析了毛乌素沙地不同恢复阶段(半固定沙地、固定沙地、结皮覆盖沙地和草本植物覆盖沙地)的植物群落物种多样性、功能多样性和系统发育多样性特征。结果表明: (1)多数叶功能性状的系统发育信号不显著, 表明环境因子对研究区植物功能性状的塑造作用很强。(2)对于α多样性, 结皮覆盖沙地的物种多样性(Shannon-Wiener多样性, H)、物种丰富度(S)、功能丰富度(FRic)及系统发育多样性(PD)指数均显著低于其他恢复阶段, 而其他3个阶段间无显著差异; 这些指数间均显著正相关, 表明物种多样性、功能多样性和系统发育多样性在植被恢复过程中协同变化。(3) β多样性指数随恢复阶段间隔增加而逐渐增大, 表明物种组成、功能属性及系统发育关系随植被恢复持续变化, 且半固定沙地到固定沙地的群落物种组成、功能属性及系统发育关系更替最快, 导致群落间差异最大。(4)固定沙地、结皮覆盖沙地和草本植物覆盖沙地群落系统发育结构均趋向于发散, 表明竞争排斥是群落构建的主要驱动力; 而半固定沙地群落系统发育结构无一致规律, 表明群落构建可能受到生境过滤和竞争排斥的综合作用。研究结果可为植被建设与管理提供参考, 为毛乌素沙地生态保育和生物多样性的保护提供科学依据。  相似文献

Aim Our aim was to test for changes in growth patterns of three clonally growing plant species (Achillea millefolium, Hieracium pilosella and Hypericum perforatum) between native and invaded regions. We addressed the hypotheses that with differing important life‐history traits, invasive populations perform better than native populations, and that this expected better performance is linked to weakened trade‐offs between individual growth and sexual and clonal reproduction. Location Germany and New Zealand. Methods We conducted field surveys for the three above‐mentioned species in both native German and invasive New Zealand populations, and collected data at both population and individual levels. Results At the population level, the proportion of flowering plants, population size and population density were all higher in invasive populations. Similarly, at the individual level, the number of stolons per plant, stolon–biomass ratio and population crowdedness (local plant density in a specified area around a target plant) were significantly higher in New Zealand. Plant height did not differ between countries, and plant biomass was lower in New Zealand than in Germany for Achillea millefolium and Hypericum perforatum. These two species showed significant trade‐offs between individual growth and sexual and clonal reproduction. Achillea millefolium exhibited a weakened trade‐off in its invaded range, where the same proportion of flowering plants was sustained at much higher levels of population crowdedness than in its native range. Main conclusions The apparent invasion success of the three study species is generally due to better overall performance in their respective invaded ranges. In respect of both Achillea millefolium and Hypericum perforatum, this is driven primarily by increased vegetative reproduction. In contrast, Hieracium pilosella seems to benefit more from increased sexual reproduction in its invaded range. Shifts in trade‐offs as a general trend seem to be of minor importance.  相似文献

Studies have shown that weed invasion into grasslands may be suppressed if the resident plant community is sufficiently diverse. The objective of this study was to determine whether increased forage plant diversity in grazed pasture communities might be associated with reduced weed abundance both in the aboveground vegetation and soil seed bank. Data were collected from a pasture experiment established in 1994 in Missouri, USA. The experiment consisted of 15 m×15 m plots sown with Festuca arundinacea Schreb. or Bromus inermis Leysser as a base species in mixtures of 1, 2, 3, 6, or 8 forage species. The plots were grazed by cattle during each growing season from 1998 to 2002. Aboveground plant species composition in each plot was measured using a point step method. Soil cores were collected in 1999 and 2002, and the species composition of germinable weed seeds in plots were evaluated by identifying seedlings as they germinated over an 8-week period. Species diversity was measured using several indices: species richness (S), Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H), and forage species evenness (J). Aboveground weed abundance in plots was unrelated to forage species richness (S), but weed abundance declined as the evenness (J) of resident forage species increased in mixtures. The species composition of mixtures may have affected weed abundance. Weeds both in the soil seed bank and aboveground vegetation were less abundant in mixtures that contained F. arundinacea compared with mixtures that contained B. inermis. Although variables like forage plant productivity may also suppress weed abundance in pastures, our results suggest that maintaining an evenly distributed mixture of forage species may help suppress weeds as well.

Zusammenfassung

Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass die Unkrautinvasion in Grünländer unterdrückt sein kann, wenn die ansässige Pflanzengemeinschaft ausreichend divers ist. Die Zielsetzung dieser Untersuchung war es zu bestimmen, ob eine erhöhte Futterpflanzendiversität in beweideten Grünlandgemeinschaften mit einer verringerten Unkrautabundanz sowohl bei der oberirdischen Vegetation als auch in der Bodensamenbank verbunden sein kann. Die Daten wurden in einem Weidelandexperiment gesammelt, das 1994 in Missouri, USA, etabliert wurde. Das Experiment bestand aus 15 m×15 m Probeflächen, die mit Festuca arundinacea Schreb. oder Bromus inermis Leysser als Basisarten in Mischungen von 1, 2, 3, 6 oder 8 Futterarten eingesät waren. Die Probeflächen wurden während jeder Wachstumssaison von 1998 bis 2002 stark mit Vieh beweidet. Die oberirdische Pflanzenartenzusammensetzung wurde in jeder Fläche mit einer Punktstopmethode gemessen. Bodenproben wurden 1999 und 2002 gesammelt und die Artenzusammensetzung der keimfähigen Unkrautsamen wurde in den Probeflächen bewertet, indem die Keimlinge identifiziert wurden, die in einer 8-wöchigen Periode keimten. Die Artendiversität wurde unter Verwendung verschiedener Indizes gemessen: Artenreichtum (S), Shannon–Wiener-Diversitätsindex (H) und Futterarten-Äquitabilität (J). Die oberirdische Unkrautartenabundanz in den Probeflächen stand in keiner Beziehung zum Futterartenreichtum (S), aber die Unkrautabundanz nahm ab, wenn die Äquitabilität (J) der ansässigen Futterarten in den Mischungen zunahm. Die Artenzusammensetzung der Mischungen könnte die Unkrautabundanz beeinflusst haben. Sowohl die Unkräuter in der Bodensamenbank, als auch in der oberirdischen Vegetation waren weniger abundant in Mischungen, die F. arundinacea enthielten, im Vergleich zu denen, die B. inermis enthielten. Obgleich Variablen wie die Futterpflanzenproduktivität möglicherweise ebenfalls die Unkrautabundanz im Weideland unterdrücken, lassen unsere Ergebnisse vermuten, dass die Aufrechterhaltung einer gleichmäßigen Mischung von Futterarten ebenfalls helfen kann, die Unkräuter zu unterdrücken.  相似文献

植物群落物种多样性与功能多样性是生态学研究的热点问题之一,研究其对于保护生物多样性和维持生态系统功能具有重要意义。采用野外群落调查方法,探讨了物种多样性与功能多样性在坡向梯度上的变化格局及其关联性。结果显示:(1)从北坡到南坡,土壤含水量、有机碳呈递减趋势;坡度、照度、土温、pH呈递增趋势;土壤全氮、全磷在西坡明显低于其他各坡向;(2)物种多样性指数均由北坡向南坡依次递减;(3)一元性状功能多样性在各坡向间的差异显著(P<0.05),除LDMCFDrao外,其他功能性状均为北坡大于南坡;(4)多元性状功能丰富度与功能均匀度均由北坡向南坡呈递减的趋势,各坡向的功能均匀度差异性不显著。通过相关分析与通径分析发现,功能多样性指数的主要环境决定因子与限定因子均存在差异:功能丰富度、功能均匀度主要环境限定因子为pH,功能离散度主要环境限定因子为土温;功能离散度主要环境决定因子为土壤含水量;(5)物种多样性指数与功能丰富度呈正线性相关,与功能离散度呈负线性相关,而与功能均匀度不相关。  相似文献
