Parasitism of tarnished plant bug nymphs, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) was investigated on different weeds and on lettuce, celery and alfalfa-clover, in a muck soil area of southwestern Quebec. The phenology of parasitism, defined as the time during which female parasitoids are active in the field, was evaluated. Two nymphal parasitoid species were found: Peristenus pallipes (Curtis) and P. pseudopallipes (Loan). Lygus lineolaris was most abundant on stinging-nettle with levels of parasitism of 17% (P. pallipes) and 27% (P. pseudopallipes) and on alfalfa-clover with levels of parasitism of 25% (P. pallipes) and 8% (P. pseudopallipes). On lettuce, parasitism by P. pseudopallipes was below 4% while no parasitism was observed on celery. The dissection and rearing methods were used to estimate parasitism, and dissection usually yielded parasitism levels higher than rearing. Degree-days requirements of both host and parasitoids were used to calculate the period of activity of parasitoid adults. The estimates of adult activity were 47 days from late May to early July for P. pallipes, and 42 days from mid-July to late August for P. pseudopallipes.  相似文献

Lygus hesperus Knight is native to the western United States and is a perennial pest of numerous crops in California. It is responsible for triggering the early season application of insecticides on cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., and strawberries, Fragaria L. Despite several surveys conducted in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) grown in central California, nymphal parasitoids associated with L. hesperus and L. elisus have not been found. Two exotic parasitoids were released into California beginning in 1998. Peristenus relictus (Ruhte), formerly P. stygicus Loan, and P. digoneutis Loan were collected from several locations in southern Europe and released at up to six locations over a 6-year period. At the original release site in Sacramento, a 0.25-ha plot of alfalfa, parasitism by P. digoneutis and P. relictus combined increased from zero to 90%, 3 years after the last releases were made. Parasitoids have been recovered from vacant fields of weedy annuals within 2 km of this site. Recoveries at more southerly release sites in central California have been poor.  相似文献

Host dissection, host rearing and PCR analysis were used to estimate parasitism level and identify the parasitoid complex in Lygus spp. populations in alfalfa. Parasitism level estimates by PCR were higher than by other methods. The PCR results from all samples tested with available primers were consistent with Peristenus pallipes, although the parasitoid was identified as Peristenus near mellipes by morphological characters.  相似文献

The compatibility of the encyrtid parasitoid Leptomastix dactylopii with the coccinellid beetle Cryptolaemus montrouzieri against the citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri, is determined by the extent of intraguild predation and interference by the predator. We tested the preference of the adults and fourth-instar larvae of C. montrouzieri for healthy mealybugs and parasitized mealybugs harboring 1-, 4-, 7- and 14-day-old parasitoid larvae. The experiments were conducted in no-choice (only unparasitized mealybugs or parasitized mealybugs of one parasitoid age were offered at one time) and choice (unparasitized and parasitized mealybugs of a specific age were offered simultaneously) tests. Both the adults and larvae of C. montrouzieri fed on unparasitized and parasitized mealybugs but strongly discriminated against the hardened mummies (14 days old). We also investigated the influence of the presence of C. montrouzieri to the foraging effectiveness of L. dactylopii. The level of parasitism by L. dactylopii was reduced from about 13 to 6% when the number of the C. montrouzieri was increased from zero to four. We recommended that the releases of C. montrouzieri should be conducted 14 days after the releases of L. dactylopii to reduce intraguild predation on the parasitized mealybugs and to avoid interference with the foraging parasitoids.  相似文献

A simple immunological assay was developed as an alternative to the dissection/visualization method for detecting the presence of the parasitoid, Microctonus aethiopoides Loan, in the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal). The dot-blot assay was validated using laboratory-reared and field-collected adult weevils of known parasitization status. The dot-blot assay was also used to estimate the developmental stage of the parasitoid within parasitized adult hosts. The assay results can be used to forecast parasitoid emergence dates and estimate the parasitism rate of M. aethiopoides in alfalfa weevil populations.  相似文献

The entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana, is highly susceptible to the damaging effects of solar radiation. This study demonstrates protection from simulated solar radiation by coating B. bassiana (GHA) spores with lignin and effects on pathogenicity to Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) adults in direct spray and contact uptake bioassays. Spores were coated with either lignin or cross-linked lignin by spray drying to produce spore coatings of high and low water solubility, respectively. Non-coated spores and the two spore coating treatments were suspended in either water (0.04% Silwet L77) or oil (Orchex 692) to produce six formulations. Rates of loss in spore viability under simulated solar radiation were approximately ten times lower for the three formulations in which spores remained coated in suspension (cross-linked lignin in water, cross-linked lignin in oil, and lignin in oil). However, these three formulations were the least pathogenic. Estimates of LC50 and LC75 values for the most pathogenic formulation (non-coated in oil) were 5 and 12 times lower, respectively, than the least pathogenic formulation (cross-linked lignin in oil), but these differences were not significant. The three lignin-coated formulations that provided the greatest UV protection were also the least pathogenic based on LT values, which were significant. Overall, L. lineolaris mortality was approximately 80 times less when exposed to treated broccoli rather than sprayed directly, based on LC50 values. If the contribution of spore uptake from plant surfaces to L. lineolaris mortality is similarly low under field conditions, then improving persistence may be less important for improving efficacy. However, under control conditions where solar radiation significantly impacts mycoinsecticide efficacy, the improved persistence of lignin coating formulations may outweigh negative effects on pathogenicity.  相似文献

During an eight-year field study at two widely-separated locations (NJ & DE, USA), seven species of phytophagous mirid plant bugs were found in alfalfa and alfalfa-grass fields grown for animal forage. Five species of parasites were reared from these mirids. Two parasite species introduced from Europe killed significantly higher proportions of nymphs of the two important mirid pests of alfalfa than did native parasites. The introduced Peristenus digoneutis Loan parasitized an average of 31% of first and second generation tarnished plant bugs, Lygus lineolaris, a native insect; and the introduced Peristenus conradi parasitized 22% of first generation alfalfa plant bugs, Adelphocoris lineolatus, an introduced species. In addition, Peristenus pallipes significantly parasitized nymphs of Trigonotylus caelestialium (43%) and Leptopterna dolabrata (37%); both mirids are immigrant species. Because the parasite P. pallipes significantly attacked only these two non-native mirids, and is present in Europe, it also may be an accidental introduction to North America. A native wasp, Leiophron uniformis, heavily parasitized (49%) the native garden fleahopper, Halticus bractatus. A third native species, P. pseudopallipes, occasionally parasitized a few Lygus lineolaris in alfalfa at one location. Two other mirids, Stenotus binotatus and Megaloceroea recticornis, both accidently-introduced grass-feeding species, were not parasitized by native or introduced species. It is noteworthy that the effective host ranges of all the parasites in alfalfa-grass fields were limited: four of the five parasite species significantly parasitized only one of the seven mirid species, and the other parasite significantly parasitized only two mirids. Activity of the four common parasites was correlated with the mirids' host plant: three species principally parasitized alfalfa-feeding mirids, and one species principally parasitized grass-feeding mirids.  相似文献

【目的】为了解稻虱红单节螯蜂Haplogonatopus apicalis与白背飞虱Sogatella furcifera间的互作关系,开展了稻虱红单节螯蜂在白背飞虱不同龄期寄生时,对寄主及其自身发育表现影响的研究。【方法】在室内25℃条件下,观察了被寄生的白背飞虱各龄若虫及其寄生蜂稻虱红单节螯蜂的发育表现。【结果】白背飞虱2, 3, 4和5龄若虫被寄生后,当龄及其后各龄的历期均显著延长;2和3龄若虫被寄生后,成虫羽化率仅分别为54.29%和60.95%,显著低于在4和5龄若虫被寄生后的成虫羽化率(分别为96.20%和100%)。稻虱红单节螯蜂寄生白背飞虱5龄若虫后的发育历期(23.77 d)显著短于寄生2龄若虫后的发育历期(27.77 d);寄生3龄若虫的成蜂羽化率最高,为56.19%;而寄生5龄若虫的羽化雄蜂比例最高,为77.12%。【结论】稻虱红单节螯蜂寄生可使白背飞虱若虫发育历期显著延长,白背飞虱2和3龄若虫是稻虱红单节螯蜂发育的适宜寄主。  相似文献

【目的】明确不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉Lycorma delicatula若虫寄生蜂种群遗传差异,实现若虫被寄生早期的快速准确检测,以评估其对斑衣蜡蝉种群的控制作用。【方法】利用DNA条形码技术获得不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉若虫寄生蜂COI和28S rDNA序列,利用K2P模型计算不同地理种群间的遗传距离,以邻接(neighbor-joining, NJ)法构建系统发育树;基于COI序列设计种特异性PCR(SS-PCR)引物,利用SS-PCR对斑衣蜡蝉若虫DNA进行扩增,测定其体内是否有中华螯蜂Dryinus sinicus寄生;利用目测法观察和PCR扩增测定寄生蜂对不同采样点斑衣蜡蝉若虫的寄生率。【结果】经鉴定,不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉若虫寄生蜂为中华螯蜂,该寄生蜂COI序列共检测到16个单倍型,28S rDNA序列共检测到4个单倍型。不同地理种群间中华螯蜂遗传距离在0.00691~0.01310之间。邻接法构建的系统发育树显示不同地理种群中华螯蜂均聚于一枝。基于COI序列设计的SS-PCR引物对中华螯蜂成虫、幼虫均具有良好的扩增效果,最低检测阈值为0.000005 ng/μL DNA。利用SS-P...  相似文献

Releases of Peristenus digoneutis against Lygus spp. in North America have been conducted for many years; however, no published procedures for mass production of the biological control agent were available. A laboratory rearing method was developed using Lygus lineolaris as the host to enhance establishment efforts and provide large numbers of wasps for inundative releases into high value fruit crops. Experiments were conducted to determine optimum host:parasitoid density and rearing temperature. The effects of nymph:wasp ratios and temperature on parasitism and wasp survival showed a 20:1 ratio at 20°C provided high parasitism (256 parasitized nymphs/wasp over lifetime) and excellent wasp survival of 27 days. Experiments on diapause-inducing conditions for P. digoneutis demonstrated that fluctuating temperatures of 23°C (day) and <16°C (night) and corresponding photo phases of 16 h light, for rearing parasitized nymphs, produced 100% diapausing parasitoids whereas non-diapausing parasitoids were only produced at more than 16 h light. Furthermore, parasitized Lygus nymphs need to be transferred to short day conditions no later than 10 days after parasitism to produce diapausing parasitoids. Critical life stages for exposure to conditions inducing diapause, the egg, first and second instar parasitoid larva, occurred from 0 to 10 days at 24°C constant temperature. Increased time in cold storage reduced the number of days to first emergence of parasitoids from diapausing cocoons when transferred to warm temperatures. The optimum storage time for diapausing P. digoneutis is between 25 and 44 weeks, depending upon the length of time that cocoons remain at warm conditions prior to chilling.  相似文献

Lygus Hahn (Hemiptera: Miridae) are serious pests of agricultural and greenhouse crops throughout North America. In Europe, bivoltine Peristenus Förster (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) species have a significant impact on Lygus populations. Release and establishment of European P. digoneutis Loan in Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) populations in northeastern USA has renewed interest in the intended liberation of European parasitoids for Lygus control in Canada. Accurate identification of natural enemies is the cornerstone of biological control but conventional methods for identifying Peristenus species and estimating parasitism rates rely on tedious and time-consuming dissection and rearing methods. The present study describes species-specific PCR primers for three species of Peristenus, and the use of a multiplex PCR assay to detect P. digoneutis and P. stygicus Loan eggs and larvae from Lygus rugulipennis Poppius nymphs. Results indicate that the primers amplify uniquely sized, species-specific PCR products for the three species and are capable of detecting single eggs in parasitized nymphs within 3 days post-parasitism. Using a multiplex PCR assay, the primers maintain specificity and sensitivity, and allow detection of each of the three species in a single reaction. Although molecular diagnostics have previously been used in the identification of parasitoids and estimation of parasitism rates, this is the first time a single-step multiplex PCR protocol has been described.  相似文献

The evolution of associations between herbivorous insects and their parasitoids is likely to be influenced by the relationship between the herbivore and its host plants. If populations of specialized herbivorous insects are structured by their host plants such that populations on different hosts are genetically differentiated, then the traits affecting insect-parasitoid interactions may exhibit an associated structure. The pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum) is a herbivorous insect species comprised of genetically distinct groups that are specialized on different host plants (Via 1991a, 1994). Here, we examine how the genetic differentiation of pea aphid populations on different host plants affects their interaction with a parasitoid wasp, Aphidius ervi. We performed four experiments. (1) By exposing pea aphids from both alfalfa and clover to parasitoids from both crops, we demonstrate that pea aphid populations that are specialized on alfalfa are successfully parasitized less often than are populations specialized on clover. This difference in parasitism rate does not depend upon whether the wasps were collected from alfalfa or clover fields. (2) When we controlled for potential differences in aphid and parasitoid behavior between the two host plants and ensured that aphids were attacked, we found that pea aphids from alfalfa were still parasitized less often than pea aphids from clover. Thus, the difference in parasitism rates is not due to behavior of either aphids or wasps, but appears to be a physiologically based difference in resistance to parasitism. (3) Replicates of pea aphid clones reared on their own host plant and on a common host plant, fava bean, exhibited the same pattern of resistance as above. Thus, there do not appear to be nutritional or secondary chemical effects on the level of physiological resistance in the aphids due to feeding on clover or alfalfa, and therefore the difference in resistance on the two crops appears to be genetically based. (4) We assayed for genetic variation in resistance among individual pea aphid clones collected from clover fields and found no detectable genetic variation for resistance to parasitism within two populations sampled from clover. This is in contrast to Henter and Via's (1995) report of abundant genetic variation in resistance to this parasitoid within a pea aphid population on alfalfa. Low levels of genetic variation may be one factor that constrains the evolution of resistance to parasitism in the populations of pea aphids from clover, leading them to remain more susceptible than populations of the same species from alfalfa.  相似文献

Field studies showed that transplants can be used to move parasitoids into fields of commercially grown cantaloupe, Cucumis melo (Cucurbitaceae), and augment parasitism of sweet potato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci biotype B (= Bemisia argentifolii) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae). Methods were developed to inoculate cantaloupe seedlings with newly imported Eretmocerus spp. (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), then transfer plants into both organic and conventional fields of cantaloupe in the desert growing region of southeastern California. Several obstacles to inoculating banker plants with an adequate number of parasitized whiteflies were overcome and numbers of parasitoids per transplant increased. In 1999 the use of banker plants was compared to a standard hand-release method and a no-release control in a replicated study at an organic farm. Augmentation through releases of parasitoids increased parasitism over that in the no-release controls (p <0.05). Banker plants increased the proportion of parasitized whiteflies more than the hand-release method (0.21 vs. 0.08). During a region-wide demonstration spring 2000, plots receiving banker plants significantly increased parasitism over paired control plots at seven commercial farms of cantaloupe. Parasitism in banker plant treated plots in 2000 was higher in organic fields (seasonal average =0.30) than conventional ones (seasonal average =0.06). Differences may be due to the use of imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide, in conventional fields for whitefly control. Over the 2-year study, however, releases of parasitoids did not consistently reduce densities of B. tabaci. Only in late season at some sites in 2000 were whitefly densities lower in release plots than paired controls. Most of the parasitoids recovered and identified from plots receiving parasitoids were the same as those released, Eretmocerus spp. (ex. Ethiopia M96076), and E. hayati(M95012, ex. Several species of Lygus (Heteroptera: Miridae: Mirini) are serious crop pests in North America where their parasitism rate by native nymphal parasitoids is generally lower than in Europe. Peristenus relictus (Ruthe) (formerly P. stygicus Loan) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Euphorinae) is the predominant nymphal parasitoid of several Lygus spp. in the warm Mediterranean region and has been a candidate for introduction against Lygus hesperus Knight and L. lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) in the southern US. We report a rapid, sensitive, and specific PCR-based assay for diagnosis of P. relictus immature stages within Lygus nymphs that entails three steps: DNA extraction, PCR of the partial mitochondrial COI gene, and agarose gel electrophoresis. The PCR-based methodology is species-specific because the target DNA of other sympatric, congeneric species was not amplified with use of the primers developed for P. relictus diagnosis. The sensitivity of the PCR method, assessed through spike tests, was established by the detection of a ratio of 1:10,000 P. relictus DNA to Lygus DNA. Molecular diagnosis of parasitism of field collected nymphs is achievable in one day, eliminating the need to rear nymphs to obtain adult parasitoids for morphological identification.  相似文献

The ecology of parasitoids is strongly influenced by their host plant species. Parasitoid fitness can be affected by a variety of plant traits that could promote phenotypic differentiation among populations of parasitoids. Generalist parasitoids are expected to be more affected by plant traits (e.g., plant defensive traits) than specialist parasitoids. Data are presented on phenotypic differences of two braconid parasitoid wasps ovipositing on the same insect host species on two different host plant species. Adult mass, adult longevity, and percent parasitism are compared for the generalist parasitoid Cotesia marginiventris Cresson and the specialist parasitoid Aleiodes nolophanae Ashmead (both Hymenoptera: Braconidae) emerging from green cloverworms, Hypena scabra Fabricius (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), feeding on two host plant species, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) (both Fabaceae), at three locations. Specialist wasps that parasitized the green cloverworm on alfalfa had a significantly larger mass than the ones that parasitized the green cloverworm on soybean at the three study sites. Generalist wasps that parasitized green cloverworms on alfalfa had a larger mass than wasps parasitizing green cloverworms on soybean only at one of the study sites (i.e., Prince George's County, MD, USA). Similarly, both specialist and generalist wasps lived longer when parasitizing green cloverworms on alfalfa than when parasitizing them on soybean at only one of the study sites (i.e., Prince George's County). In Prince George's County, percent parasitism on alfalfa by the specialist parasitoid was higher than on soybean for three consecutive years and percent parasitism by the generalist parasitoid was the same on alfalfa and soybean every year. Thus, phenotypic differences among populations associated with different host plant species vary geographically (i.e., parasitoid phenotype associated with different host plant species differ at some sites while it is the same at other sites). Many aphid species possess wingless (apterous) and winged (alate) stages, both of which can harbor parasitoids at various developmental stages. Alates can either be parasitized directly or can bear parasitoids eggs or larvae resulting from prior parasitism of alatoid nymphs. Winged aphids bearing parasitoid eggs or young larvae eventually still engage in long-distance flights, thereby facilitating parasitoid dispersal. This may have a number of important implications for biological control of aphids by parasitoids. In this study, we determined the effect of parasitism by Aphelinus varipes (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) on wing development and flight of the soybean aphid, Aphis glycines (Hemiptera: Aphididae). We also quantified the influence of aphid flight distance on subsequent A. varipes development. Parasitism by A. varipes was allowed at different A. glycines developmental stages (i.e., alatoid 3rd and 4th-instar nymphs, alates) and subsequent aphid flight was measured using a computer-monitored flight mill. Only 35% of aphids parasitized as L3 alatoid nymphs produced normal winged adults compared to 100% of L4 alatoids. Flight performance of aphids parasitized as 4th-instar alatoid nymphs 24 or 48 h prior to testing was similar to that of un-parasitized alates of identical age, but declined sharply for alates that had been parasitized as 4th-instar alatoid nymphs 72 and 96 h prior to testing. Flight performance of aphids parasitized as alate adults for 24 h was not significantly different from un-parasitized alates of comparable ages. Flight distance did not affect parasitoid larval or pupal development times, or the percent mummification of parasitized aphids. Our results have implications for natural biological control of A. glycines in Asia and classical biological control of the soybean aphid in North America.  相似文献

The host instar preferences of Encarsia bimaculata and Eretmocerus sp. nr. furuhashii parasitizing Bemisia tabaci and their development on four host plants, collard, eggplant, cucumber and tomato, were studied in the laboratory. Both of the parasitoids accepted all nymphal stages of B. tabaci, but E. bimaculata preferred third and fourth instars while Er. sp. nr. furuhashii preferred second and third instars under both choice and no choice conditions. Regardless of host stage parasitized, adults of parasitoids emerged only from fourth instars. When given the simultaneous choice of all instars, E. bimaculata reduced parasitization of first and second instars (3.73 and 4.76%, respectively) while increasing parasitization of third and fourth instars (5.44 and 6.93%, respectively), in contrast Er. sp. nr. furuhashii increased its parasitization of second and third instar nymphs (1.27 and 3.17%, respectively) and decreased that of first and fourth instars (7.0 and 3.06%, respectively). Host plants did not significantly influence instar preference for either parasitoid. Developmental periods of both the parasitoids from egg to adult emergence were longest when first instars were parasitized and shortest when fourth instars were selected. Parasitoid developmental time was generally shorter on glabrous plants than on hirsute plants.  相似文献

We investigated the role of the foraging behavior of the parasitoid wasp Aphidius ervi in producing nonrandom spatial patterns of parasitism among pea aphids, Acyrthosiphon pisum . We measured spatial variability in percent parasitism by determining the number of aphids and percent parasitism in 40 sampling plots (0.65-m2 circles) located within a homogeneous alfalfa field. In one replicate of this experiment, mean parasitism of aphids was 18.7%, and percent parasitism showed density-independent aggregation (i.e., greater than random variability in percent parasitism among sampling plots). In the other replicate, mean parasitism was 56.3%, and percent parasitism was not aggregated among plots. We used a combination of field observations of parasitoid foraging and mathematical models to explore these results. In particular, we asked whether the presence or absence of density-independent aggregation at different mean percent parasitism can be explained even if parasitoids forage randomly, without changing their behavior in response to encounters with aphids. Observations show that parasitoids tend to move short distances between nearby alfalfa stems (mean=10.8 cm), and the turning angle between successively visited stems was uniformly distributed. We incorporated this behavior into both simulation and analytical models of parasitoid foraging. The models show the same pattern as that observed in the field: parasitism is aggregated in a density-independent fashion when mean percent parasitism is low but not when mean percent parasitism is high. Therefore, density-independent aggregation in percent parasitism does not necessarily imply behavioral responses of parasitoids to host encounters and previously parasitized hosts.  相似文献

Intraguild predation (IGP) is pervasive in many managed and unmanaged ecosystems and may have negative, neutral or positive effects on the biological control of pest insects. Both generalist predators and aphelinid parasitoids attack Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) Biotype B (=B. argentifolii Perring & Bellows) on cotton in the southwestern USA. Free-choice and no-choice laboratory assays were conducted to quantify prey consumption patterns and preference by three representative generalist predators, Geocoris punctipes (Say), Orius insidiosus (Say), and Hippodamia convergens Guérin-Méneville, offered fourth instar B. tabaci nymphs and nymphs parasitized by Eretmocerus sp. nr. emiratus. All three predators showed a significant preference for larval and pupal stage parasitoids over early fourth instar nymphs, but G. punctipes and O. insidiosus were non-discriminating when offered a choice of larval parasitoids and late fourth instar nymphs. The potential implications of these observed patterns for the field were examined through sensitivity analyses of existing field life table data. First, preference for parasitized hosts alters the methods required for calculating marginal rates of parasitism. Incorporating a preference variable in the estimation procedure had a very small positive effect (0.02–1.13% change) on total generational mortalities observed in previous life table studies. However, further hypothetical analyses suggested that under circumstances of lower generational mortality and higher levels of either apparent parasitism or predation, high levels of predator preference for parasitized prey could alter estimates of total mortality as much as 14%.   1. The Western conifer seed bug Leptoglossus occidentalis, a native insect of North America, was accidentally introduced in Europe in the late 1990s. Since then, it has spread rapidly. Biological control could provide an efficient management option but natural enemies of the pest have been poorly examined in Europe.
  2. In this study, we exposed sentinel egg masses and collected naturally laid egg masses in southern France in 2016 and 2017, to identify the egg parasitoids of L. occidentalis and investigate their potentials.
  3. Three egg parasitoids were detected: Anastatus bifasciatus, Ooencyrtus pityocampae and Ooencyrtus telenomicida. The overall parasitism was low compared to that observed in the native range with 6.4% of all eggs being parasitized, while 17.1% of egg masses carried at least one parasitized egg. The total number of parasitized egg masses was similar between parasitoid species, but the mean number of parasitized eggs per egg mass was highest for A. bifasciatus (5.57 vs. 1.25 for Ooencyrtus spp.).
  4. Sentinel egg masses underestimated the parasitism compared to natural egg masses (respectively, 1.42% and 7.71%).
  5. Our results suggested that the three generalist parasitoids detected can respond in a Leptoglossus egg density-dependent manner, but this requires further investigations.
