We examined species composition and richness in the seed banks and established vegetation in lakes along the Yangtze River with two contrasting aquaculture types: pen-culture lakes, characterized by pen-culture of commercial fish and crab, and lake-culture lake with more intensive stocking of the entire lake. The mean live biomass and species richness of submerged vegetation was significantly reduced or absent in lake-culture lakes (0-159 g m−2 and 0-0.3 species per sample, respectively), compared to those with pen-culture lakes (1552-2971 g m−2 and 1.5-3.2 species per sample, respectively) in all three study years. Also mean seedling density and species richness of seed banks were significantly lower in these lake-culture lakes (133 m−2 vs. 265 m−2 and 0.6 species vs. 0.9 species per sample, respectively). These results suggest that intensive aquaculture in these lakes has had serious negative effects on submerged vegetation and the associated seed banks. Vegetation history was partly reflected by distribution patterns of seed banks across sediment depth strata. A principal component analysis produced a very clear separation of lakes from pen-culture and lake-culture on the basis of their species composition. Moreover, the principal component analysis also indicated that the variation in the soil seed bank corresponded poorly with vegetation data. Stand structure and biomass production of Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. were analyzed along north-south and east-west transects in the Burullus coastal lagoon (N Egypt, 410 km2) at monthly intervals over a period of 1 year (February 2003 until January 2004). For this purpose, young and old stands were selected at eight different locations in the lagoon. It was found that the north-south transect mainly represented a fertility gradient (207-286 mg l−1 TN, 30-106 mg l−1 TP), while the east-west transect was associated with significantly decreasing salinity (7-4 ppt). All morphological and biomass variables of P. australis were significantly different between young and old stands. On average, the old (7.3 ± 0.2 kg DW m−2) accumulated three times more total above-ground biomass than the young stands (2.5 ± 0.1 kg DW m−2). Shoot height, diameter and shoot dry weight significantly increased by 25-50% with increasing fertility along the north-south transect. Shoot density significantly decreased from north to south, while it almost doubled in the north sites from 109 ± 6 to 216 ± 7 shoots m−2 along the west-east transect. In separate stepwise multiple regressions, variation in water quality explained 34-63% of the variation in morphology and total above-ground biomass in the old stands (salinity and water level were most important for biomass, transparency also for height and density) while it explained 16-42% of variation in young stands (mainly transparency).  相似文献

A simultaneous model for analysis of net energy intake and growth curves is presented, viewing the animal's responses as a two dimensional outcome. The model is derived from four assumptions: (1) the intake is a quadratic function of metabolic weight; (2) the rate of body energy accretion represents the difference between intake and maintenance; (3) the relationship between body weight and body energy is allometric and (4) animal intrinsic variability affects the outcomes so the intake and growth trajectories are realizations of a stochastic process. Data on cumulated net energy intake and body weight measurements registered from weaning to maturity were available for 13 pigs. The model was fitted separately to 13 datasets. Furthermore, slaughter data obtained from 170 littermates was available for validation of the model. The parameters of the model were estimated by maximum likelihood within a stochastic state space model framework where a transform-both-sides approach was adopted to obtain constant variance. A suitable autocorrelation structure was generated by the stochastic process formulation. The pigs’ capacity for intake and growth were quantified by eight parameters: body weight at maximum rate of intake (149-281 kg); maximum rate of intake (25.7-35.7 MJ/day); metabolic body size exponent (fixed: 0.75); the daily maintenance requirement per kg metabolic body size (0.232-0.303 MJ/(day×kg0.75)); reciprocal scaled energy density ; a dimensional exponent, θ6 (0.730-0.867); coefficient for animal intrinsic variability in intake (0.120-0.248 MJ0.5) and coefficient for animal intrinsic variability in growth (0.029-0.065 kg0.5). Model parameter values for maintenance requirements and body energy gains were in good agreement with those obtained from slaughter data. In conclusion, the model provides biologically relevant parameter values, which cannot be derived by traditional analysis of growth and energy intake data.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate ovarian follicular dynamics during intervals between successive ovum pick-up (OPU) and determine its effects on the number and quality of recovered cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) in Zebu cows (Bos indicus). Pluriparous nonlactating Gyr cows (Bos indicus; n = 10) underwent four consecutive OPU sessions at 96-h intervals. The dynamics of ovarian follicular growth between OPU sessions was monitored by twice-daily ultrasonographic examinations. A single dominant follicle (DF) or two codominant (CDF) follicles (>9 mm) were present in 63.3% (19 of 30) of intervals studied, with follicle deviation beginning when the future dominant follicle (F1) achieved a diameter of 6.2 ± 0.3 mm. The phenomenon of codominance was observed in four (13.3%) of the inter-OPU intervals. The remaining intervals (36.6%, 11 of 30) were characterized by a greater follicular population, lower rate of follicular growth, and a smaller diameter F1 (P < 0.0001). There was a tendency (P = 0.08) toward an increase in the number of recovered COCs when dominant follicles were not present (NDF). The quality of COCs was not affected by the presence of a single dominant follicle, but codominant follicles resulted in recovery of a lower proportion of viable embryos (40.0%, 62.1%, and 63.6%; P < 0.05) and higher proportions of degenerate COCs (56.0%, 30.3%, and 28.6%; P < 0.05) for CDF, NDF, and DF respectively. We concluded that, in Zebu cows, (a) repeated follicle aspirations altered ovarian follicular dynamics, perhaps by increasing follicular growth rate; (b) follicular dominance could be established in cows undergoing twice-a-week OPU; and (c) the presence of a dominant follicle during short inter-OPU intervals may not affect COC quality, except when a codominant follicle was present.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of somatic cell count (SCC), body condition score (BCS) or lameness score on ovarian follicular growth and ovulation in dairy cows. Seventy four animals 30-80 days post-partum were monitored for all three conditions before synchronization of ovarian follicular phases by administration of gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) followed seven days later with prostaglandin F2alpha (PG). Ultrasonography of both ovaries twice daily throughout the follicular phase revealed that fewer animals with combined high SCC and lameness (4/9) ovulated compared to healthy animals (19/21; P = 0.006) or animals with only high SCC (11/11; P = 0.004) or only lameness (21/27; P = 0.06). Overall, regardless of the presence of other concurrent conditions, fewer lame cows ovulated than Non Lame animals (30/42 and 30/32; P = 0.015). Mean follicular growth and maximum follicular diameter were unaffected by any of the three conditions. However, dominant follicle growth and maximum diameter were greater in the 60 animals that ovulated compared to the 14 that did not; 1.83 ± 0.16 versus 0.96 ± 0.26 mm/day (P = 0.014) and 19.4 ± 0.4 versus 16.4 ± 1.2 mm (P = 0.003), respectively. In conclusion, lameness reduced the proportion of cows that ovulated and the synergistic effect of high SCC and lameness reduced that proportion further. However, follicular growth and maximum follicular diameter were unaffected by high SCC, low BCS or lameness.  相似文献

The mean age of a population of agile frogs (Rana dalmatina) from the Iberian Peninsula was estimated using mark and recapture and skeletochronology. Life-history parameters, including growth rate, body length, age and size at maturity, sexual dimorphism and longevity, were studied. The regression between age and snout-vent length (SVL) was highly significant in both sexes. Males reached sexual maturity at two years of age, although sometimes they can reach it at only one year of age. The average SVL at maturity was 51.75 mm (standard error (SE) = 0.71; n = 45). Females reached sexual maturity at two years of age with an average SVL of 62.14 mm (SE = 2.20; n = 14). A subset of the female population reached sexual maturity at three years of age. Growth was rapid until sexual maturity was reached. There was an overlap of SVL between different age classes. Growth was continuous, fulfilling the conditions of Von Bertalanffy's model. The growth coefficient (K) was 0.840 in males and 0.625 in females. The maximum SVL was greater in females (73.00 mm) than in males (59.50 mm). Sexual dimorphism was significantly biased towards females in all age classes. The maximum longevity observed was 6 years in females and 8 years in males. Management strategies for agile frogs should take into account factors such as these life-history characteristics.  相似文献

To examine climate variability in northwest China in the late Cenozoic and to test hypotheses regarding the development of C4 ecosystems and the dynamics of the Asian monsoons, the carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions of 32 bulk and 368 serial tooth enamel samples from herbivores in the Linxia Basin (Gansu Province), ranging in age from 25 Ma to the present, were determined. The results corroborate and improve the record previously obtained from the area, showing that all mammals in the Linxia Basin lived in habitats consisting primarily of C3 vegetation prior to 2-3 Ma and that C4 grasses did not become a significant component of local ecosystems until the Quaternary. The data also show that shifts in climate to drier and/or warmer conditions after about 14, 9.5, 7, and 2.5 Ma, as indicated by positive δ18O excursions in the bulk enamel-δ18O record, were accompanied by increased seasonality; whereas negative δ18O shifts in the bulk data after about 11, 6, and 1.2 Ma, which indicate shifts to wetter and/or cooler climate, were associated with decreases in seasonality. Intra-tooth δ13C and δ18O profiles reveal significant changes in the seasonal patterns of diet and climate after ~ 2-3 Ma. Prior to ~ 2-3 Ma, there was little or no seasonal variation in herbivores' diets and all herbivores fed on C3 vegetation year around. After that time, the data show a significant seasonal variation in the diets of horses and bovids, ranging from a pure C3 to a mixed C3/C4 diet (with C4 plants accounting for up to ~ 60% of the diet). An inverse relationship (or negative correlation) between δ13C and δ18O values within individual teeth — a pattern characteristic of the summer monsoon regime — is observed in younger (< 2-3 Ma) horses and bovids but not in older fossils. These changes in intra-tooth isotopic patterns provide strong evidence for an enhanced monsoon climate since about 2-3 Ma.  相似文献

Background

Anthropometric surveys devised by each country attempt to fulfill the requirements of the manufacturers, designers, and human welfare device production, providing them with data and tools and allowing them to face both the internal and export markets. To this end, national anthropometric data collections and comparisons including three-dimensional information, together with comparison of these data among countries, are conducted at both the domestic and global levels.

Methods

The anthropometric data of the Korean population measured in 2013 (Korean Agency for Technology and Standard (KATS) 2013 data) and the data collected from 2010 (KATS 2010 data) that was conducted on 710 males between the ages of 13 and 18 years were analyzed in this section to obtain information on Korean boy’s physical features and growth.

Results

The mean height increased about 5 cm from 13 to 14 years which shows the early fast maturing somatotype. Also, the mean height of boys aged from 15 to 16 increased about 1 to 2 cm. For the results of body proportion rate index against height, they show 0.93, 0.81, 0.38, 0.99, and 0.26 times the height in eye height, shoulder height, fingertip height, and span and maximum shoulder breadth, respectively, in 16-year-old boys. For the body mass index, the weight is increased from the age of 16 years.

Conclusions

There are several studies that cover growth features of the entire range from birth to maturity, and they have reported the comparison of the growth patterns among Europeans. Even though such researches have been made, as for the industry, the human modeling tools based on the anthropometric data and morphological features that cover all the countries should be developed for well-fit garments and other human-oriented design process.  相似文献

The fixed position of force plates has led researchers to pursue alternative methods of determining centre of pressure (CoP) location. To date, errors reported using alternative methods to the force plate during dynamic tasks have been high. The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of a motion analysis marker-based system to determine CoP during a two-legged hopping task. Five markers were attached to the left and right feet of eight healthy adults (5 females, 3 males, age: 25.0±2.8 years, height: 1.75±0.07 m, mass: 71.3±11.3 kg). Multivariate forward stepwise and forced entry linear regression was used with data from five participants to determine CoP position during quiet standing and hopping at various frequencies. Maximum standard error of the estimate of CoP position was 12 mm in the anteroposterior direction and 8 mm in the mediolateral. Cross-validation was performed using the remaining 3 participants. Maximum root mean square difference between the force plate and marker method was 14 mm for mediolateral CoP and 20 mm for anteroposterior CoP during 1.5 Hz hopping. Differences reduced to a maximum of 7 mm (mediolateral) and 14 mm (anteroposterior) for the other frequencies. The smallest difference in calculated sagittal plane ankle moment and timing of maximum moment was during 3.0 Hz hopping, and largest at 1.5 Hz. Results indicate the marker-based method of determining CoP may be a suitable alternative to a force plate to determine CoP position during a two-legged hopping task at frequencies greater than 1.5 Hz.  相似文献

Height differences between the two Koreas were injected into the U.S. presidential debate. The purpose of this article is to report briefly the height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) differences between North and South Korean children by using previous sources and new data. This study employs South Korean data published by the Korean Research Institute for Standards and Science in 1997 and by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards in 2004, comparing them to North Korean data stemming from the 1997 and 2002 nutritional surveys conducted by the United Nations. Furthermore, this article makes use of anthropometric measurements of North Korean refugee children immigrating to South Korea from 2000 to 2007. In 1997, South Korean preschool children were found on average to be 6-7 cm (2-3 in.) taller and about 3 kg (6.6 pounds) heavier than their Northern counterparts; in 2002, the average gap was about 8 cm (3 in.) and 3 kg (6.6 pounds), and the BMI gap was about 1. North Korean boys and girls escaping to South Korea were also found to be on average about 3-4 cm (1-1.6 in.) shorter and 1 kg (2.2 pounds) lighter than their Southern peers.  相似文献

We employ a unique dataset of Major League Baseball (MLB) players - a select, healthy population - to examine trends in height, weight, and body mass in birth cohorts from 1869 to 1983. Over that 115-year time period, U.S. born MLB players have gained, on average, approximately 3 in. (7.6 cm) in height and 27.0 lb (12.2 kg) in weight, which has contributed a 1.6-unit increase in the body mass index. Where comparable data are available, U.S. born MLB players are about 2.0 in. (5.1 cm) taller and 20.0 lb (9.1 kg) heavier but substantially less obese than males in the general U.S. population. But both groups exhibit similar height and weight trends; the majority of height and weight gains take place in cohorts that were born prior to World War II, followed by slower gains and occasional declines in height and weight for cohorts born in 1939 and later.  相似文献

The present study investigated the growth, secondary production and gonad development of two co-existing amphioxus species Branchiostoma belcheri and B. malayanum in subtropical Hong Kong from June 2005 to June 2006. Based on the modal progression analysis, amphioxus populations were decomposed into separate cohorts. The von Bertalanffy growth models were also estimated according to the size incremental data. From the growth models, the size ranges of one, two and three-year-old B. belcheri were estimated to be 5-28 mm, 28-38 mm and 38-45 mm BL, respectively; while the one and two-year-old B. malayanum were estimated to be 7-30 mm and 30-35 mm BL, respectively. The secondary production was calculated at 1.15 g m− 2 yr− 1 DW or 0.63 g m− 2 yr− 1 AFDW for B. belcheri with density 424 ind m− 2, and 0.51 g m− 2 yr− 1 DW or 0.40 g m− 2 yr− 1 AFDW for B. malayanum with density 121 ind m− 2. The production to biomass ratio (P/B) was 1.13 for B. belcheri and 0.98 for B. malayanum. Changes in the gonad length index indicated that B. belcheri spawned mainly in June and July, while B. malayanum mainly in April and August. As compared with B. belcheri, B. malayanum was characterized by rapid growth, shorter life span, early maturity and lower population density. Such differences in population dynamics may allow both species to share a similar habitat and co-exist in subtropical waters of Hong Kong.  相似文献

Chromatophores show significant changes during healing of skin wounds in Labeo rohita (Common Name - Rohu). Wound area can be divided into regions I, II and III. After infliction of wound, skin colour becomes significantly dark by 2 h that is gradually restored by 2 d. In regions II and III at 5 min, epidermal melanophores appear with beaded dendrites. In these regions at 2 h and in region I at 6 h, epidermal melanophores appear small, rounded or irregular shaped having dendritic processes with aggregated melanosomes. Subsequently, melanophores appear having elongated dendrites with dispersed or aggregated melanosomes. At 24 h, clusters of pigmented bodies appear in regions I and II. These bodies increase up to 2 d, and then diminish gradually and disappear by 8 d. Changes in dermal melanophores in region II at 5 min indicate the onset of degeneration. Degenerating melanophores increase up to 12 h, then gradually decline, and disappear by 4 d. Simultaneously, stellate melanophore reappear, gradually increase and appear like control by 8 d. Dermal melanophores in region III at different intervals appear stellate. In region I stellate dermal melanophores appear at 4 d. Stellate melanophores in all regions show different distribution of dispersed or aggregated melanosomes. With the appearance of dermal melanophores, highly refractive, crystalline structures, possibly the refractive platelets of the iridophores, are visualized around them. At subsequent intervals, these are frequently observed. This study provides interesting insights in injury induced changes in chromatophores in fish. The findings could be considered useful in perception of intriguing features in the development of pigment research in future.  相似文献

At the north-western limit of the Mediterranean basin, in the Mediterranean-Oceanic transition zone, the multidisciplinary study of two palaeolakes: Villaseca and La Mata (Province of Leon), provides data on the last deglaciation. The juxtaglacial lakes were formed during a deglaciation phase of the last cold stage (Weichselian/Würm) estimated, from the regional and Pyrenean chronological data, between circa 48 ka and 32 ka (ka: 1000 years ago). Their drainage occurred circa 17 ka and 15 ka respectively, during the definitive glacial retreat phases. These results provide evidence for a glacial maximum extension preceding the global Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and an early deglaciation. Comparisons with the Pyrenean data show that in the most important glacial basins of the Pyrenean-Cantabrian range, glaciers were still present at middle elevation circa 18-20 ka. The final deglaciation did not happen until around 16 ka.During the period 48-13.3 ka, along the Pyrenean-Cantabrian range, three stages can be distinguished in the deglacial processes. Between circa 48 and 32 ka, the deglacial retreats were contemporaneous with D-O events 12 to 6. Between circa 32 ka and 18 ka, major sedimentary modifications were rare. Two of them are synchronous with D-O 4 and 3. A glacial readvance also occurred during this period along the Pyrenean-Cantabrian range. Between 18 and 17 ka, major sedimentary changes and an increase in the δ18O records of the NGRIP ice-core record are synchronous. Between 15 and 13.3 ka, glacial retreats and sedimentary changes are synchronous with the climatic improvement observed from the end of the Oldest Dryas to the end of the Bölling-Alleröd period.These correspondencies suggest relationships between the deglacial processes in the western Mediterranean and the palaeoenvironmental events in the North Atlantic region during the last Glacial-Interglacial transition. During the Full Glacial period, the pollen data indicates dominant steppic environments. The Oldest Dryas was not a constant cooling phase and from around 15.5 ka, the pollen data indicates a slight warming. During the Holocene, until circa 2040 cal BP, mixed oak forests developed and pine was a prominent component of the Cantabrian landscape. Then the forests were destroyed due to mining, agriculture and fire, and this favoured the extension of heathland.  相似文献

The vertical distribution of nitrification performances in an up-flow biological aerated filter operated at tertiary nitrification stage is evaluated in this paper. Experimental data were collected from a semi-industrial pilot-plant under various operating conditions. The actual and the maximum nitrification rates were measured at different levels inside the up-flow biofilter. A nitrogen loading rate higher than 1.0 kg NH4-N m−3_media d−1 is necessary to obtain nitrification activity over all the height of the biofilter. The increase in water and air velocities from 6 to 10 m h−1 and 10 to 20 m h−1 has increased the nitrification rate by 80% and 20% respectively. Backwashing decreases the maximum nitrification rate in the media by only 3-14%. The nitrification rate measured at a level of 0.5 m above the bottom of the filter is four times higher than the applied daily average volumetric nitrogen loading rate up to 1.5 kg NH4-N m−3_media d−1. Finally, it is shown that 58% of the available nitrification activity is mobilized in steady-state conditions while up to 100% is used under inflow-rate increase.  相似文献

Yeast, particularly Saccharomyces cerevisiae, has long served as a model eukaryotic system for studies on the regulation of lipid metabolism. We developed a high performance liquid chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry method for the detailed analysis of triacylglycerols (TAGs) in 14 species of yeast consisting of seven Antarctic yeasts (grown at 15 °C and 5 °C) and seven non-Antarctic yeasts (grown at 25 °C and 15 °C), the latter including 3 strains of S. cerevisiae. Analysis of TAG molecular species established that the sn-2 position was invariably occupied by an unsaturated fatty acyl moiety. In S. cerevisiae the preference was for oleic acid 18:1 > palmitoleic acid 16:1, in Candida albicans, Cryptococcus humicolus and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa 18:1 > linoleic acid 18:2 and in Zygosaccharomyces rouxii 18:2 > 18:1. In the Antarctic yeasts (Cryptococcus watticus, Cryptococcus victoriae, Cryptococcus nyarrowii, Leucosporidium antarcticum, Leucosporidium fellii, Candida psychrophila and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa) the general pattern was for the sn-2 position to be occupied by 18:1, 18:2 or linolenic acid 18:3. A trend towards synthesis of increased unsaturated fatty acid in TAGs was observed as the growth temperature was lowered. The application of principal component analysis demonstrated that the yeasts were differentiated into three distinct groups. One group consisted of the three S. cerevisiae strains, a second the other four non-Antarctic yeasts and the third the seven Antarctic yeasts. The data for the Antarctic yeasts, to the best of our knowledge, have not been previously reported.  相似文献

ObjectivesWe aimed to establish age- and sex-dependent reference intervals for insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) based on the measurements of healthy Chinese children from the pediatric reference intervals in China study and to investigate whether body mass index (BMI) and height affect IGF-1 levels.MethodsA total of 3753 individuals with eligible blood specimens resampled from the pediatric reference intervals in China population were enrolled as reference individuals. IGF-1 levels were measured using a chemiluminescent immunoassay kit. The lower limit and upper limit values of the reference individuals were calculated by defining the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles. The skewness-median-coefficient of variation method was used to calculate the standard deviation score (SDS) of serum IGF-1, and cubic spline curves were applied to depict a smoothed curve for each age- and sex-specific stratification of the L, M, and S parameters.ResultsSerum IGF-1 levels increased with age from the age of 1 year, peaking at around the age of 13 years in girls and 15 years in boys and then began to decline (both P <.001). Before 14 years, IGF-1 levels were higher in girls than in boys at the same age, and the difference was statistically significant (P < .05), but there was no significant difference in the IGF-1 levels between girls and boys aged 14 to 16 and 18 years. The Spearman correlation coefficients of height SDS, weight SDS, and BMI SDS with IGF-1 SDS were 0.29, 0.33, and 0.20, respectively (P < .001).ConclusionThis study established age- and sex-specific normative IGF-1 data for Chinese children and adolescents between the ages of 1 and 19 years. The BMI and height SDS had no effect on IGF-1 levels in healthy children.  相似文献

Residual stress is defined as the stress that remains in bone tissue without any external forces. This study investigated the effects of growth on residual stress distributions from the surface to deeper regions of cortical cylinders obtained from less-than-one-month-old (Group Y) and two-year-old (Group M) bovine femurs. In these experiments, five diaphysis specimens from each group were used. Residual stress was measured using a high-energy synchrotron white X-ray beam to penetrate X-rays into the deeper region of the bone specimens. The measurements in the cortical cylinders from Groups Y and M were performed at 0.5- and 1-mm intervals, respectively, from the outer surface to the deeper region of the diaphysis specimens at four positions: anterior, posterior, lateral, and medial. The residual stress was calculated on the basis of variation in the interplanar spacing of hydroxyapatite crystals in the bone tissue. According to the results, the diaphysis specimens from Group Y were not subjected to large residual stresses (average −1.2 MPa and 2.4 MPa at the surface region and 1.5 mm depth, respectively). In Group M, the surface region of the diaphysis specimens was subjected to tensile residual stresses (average 6.7 MPa) and the deeper region was subjected to compressive stresses (average −8.2 MPa at 3 mm depth). There was a strong significant difference between both these regions. The value of residual stresses at the surface region of the diaphysis specimens in both the groups had a positive statistical correlation with the cortical thickness at the measured locations.  相似文献
