A new species of Orthotrichum, O. dentatum T.Kiebacher & Lüth, is described from the European Alps. The new species belongs to the subgenus Pulchella (Schimp.) Vitt, section Diaphana Vent. Orthotrichum dentatum is similar to O. schimperi Hammar but differs from the latter in that it features a hairy calyptra, denticulate to dentate leaf apices and strongly keeled leaves. Orthotrichum dentatum grows as an epiphyte on a variety of deciduous trees. So far, the new species has only been found in Italy and Switzerland.  相似文献

Oreocharis mileense (W.T. Wang) M. Möller & A. Weber is endemic to China and was considered to be extinct because it had not been seen in the wild since the first collection in 1906. In 2006, the species was rediscovered in Shilin County, Yunnan Province. Oreocharis mileense was considered critically endangered for its narrow geographic range and extremely small population. An efficient method to preserve plant germplasm by in vitro culturing of O. mileense has not been reported. In this study, an orthogonal array with three factors (6-benzyladenine, BA; α-naphthaleneacetic acid, NAA; and sucrose), at four levels was performed, and shoot induction as well as shoot proliferation were recorded. The results were analyzed to determine the most significant components and the optimum combination for micropropagation of O. mileense. The results showed that: (1) organogenesis was easily induced by different combinations of plant-growth regulators and sucrose; (2) NAA and sucrose had the most significant effect on shoot induction and shoot multiplication, and (3) the optimum induction and proliferation media were 0.5 mg L?1 BA + 0.2 mg L?1 NAA?+?30 g L?1 sucrose and 1 mg L?1 BA + 0.1 mg L?1 NAA?+?30 g L?1 sucrose, respectively.  相似文献

Type material of several polychaete species described by Enrique Rioja from Mexican coasts are lost, and the current status of some species is doubtful. Nereis oligohalina (Rioja, 1946) was described from the Gulf of Mexico, but it has been considered a junior synonym of Nereis occidentalis Hartman, 1945, or regarded as a distinct species with an amphiamerican distribution. On the other hand, Nereis garwoodi González-Escalante & Salazar-Vallejo, 2003, described from Chetumal Bay, Caribbean coasts, could be confused with Nereis oligohalina. In order to clarify these uncertainties, Nereis oligohalina is redescribed based on specimens from the Mexican Gulf of Mexico, including a proposed neotype; further, Nereis garwoodi is redescribed including the selection of lectotype and paralectotypes, and Nereis confusa sp. n. is described with material from the Gulf of California. A key for the identification of similar species and some comments about speciation in nereidid polychaetes are also included.  相似文献

The estimated lower limb length (0.761–0.793 m) of the partial skeleton of Australopithecus afarensis from Woranso‐Mille (KSD‐VP‐1/1) is outside the previously known range for Australopithecus and within the range of modern humans. The lower limb length of KSD‐VP‐1/1 is particularly intriguing when juxtaposed against the lower limb length estimate of the other partial skeleton of A. afarensis, AL 288‐1 (0.525 m). A sample of 36 children (age, >7 years, trochanteric height = 0.56–0.765 m) and 16 adults (trochanteric height = 0.77–1.00 m) walked at their self‐selected slow, preferred, and fast walking velocities, while their oxygen consumption was monitored. Lower limb length and velocity were correlated with slow (P < 0.001, r2 = 0.44), preferred (P < 0.001, r2 = 0.55), and fast (P < 0.001, r2 = 0.69) walking velocity. The relationship between optimal velocity and lower limb length was also determined and lower limb length explained 47% of the variability in optimal velocity. The velocity profile for KSD‐VP‐1/1 (slow = 0.73–0.75 m/s, preferred = 1.08–1.11 m/s, and fast = 1.48–1.54 m/s) is 36–44% higher than that of AL 288‐1 (slow = 0.53 m/s, preferred = 0.78 m/s, and fast = 1.07 m/s). The optimal velocity for AL 288‐1 is 1.04 m/s, whereas that for KSD‐VP‐1/1 is 1.29–1.33 m/s. This degree of lower limb length dimorphism suggests that members of a group would have had to compromise their preferences to walk together or to split into subgroups to walk at their optimal velocity. The fossil coprolite ichnogenusPalaxius is known with 22 species from the Permian up to the Tertiary. The diagnostic characteristics and the stratigraphie range of all species is given in this paper. The ichnogenusAgantaxia Kristan-Tollmann is a younger synonym of the ichnogenusPalaxius. The new crustacean coprolitePalaxius hydranensis n. sp. is described from the reef limestones of Norian part of “Pantokrator” limestone of the Island Hydra (Greece). This is the first report of coprolites from Hydra. The organism association of coprolite bearing limestone is mentioned.   相似文献

Williamson’s mouse deer, Tuagulus williamsoni (Kloss), is one of the smallest ungulates among tragulid species found in northern Thailand, and Yunnan Province, China. Here we describe Sarcocystis menglaensis n. sp., infecting two of 14 (14.3%) Williamson’s mouse deer from south-western China. By light microscopy, sarcocysts of S. menglaensis are microscopic, up to 2,170 μm in length, and have a striated sarcocyst wall with 1.5–3.6 μm long palisade-like protrusions. Transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that sarcocyst wall is of “type 10f”, and has numerous villar protrusions folded over the cyst wall. The villar protrusions contained microtubules dispersed throughout the protrusions. Phylogenetic analysis based on 18S rDNA and mitochondrial cox1 gene sequences indicated that S. menglaensis shared a close affinity with species of Sarcocystis Lankester, 1982 from ruminants, which utilise felids as definitive hosts.  相似文献

The basal plate of the genusPorochara MäDLER 1955 (Porocharaceae, Charophyta) was proved to be divided into two parts by examining its type species. ThusMusacchiella Feist & Grambast-Fessard 1984 is a younger synonym ofPorochara. The genusFeistiella n. gen. is established for those species with undivided basal plates and it is described with the type speciesFeistiella bijuescensis n. sp. Six other species are attributed to this new genus. The relation between a fan shaped internal structure of the spiral cells and a brackish environment is discussed.  相似文献

Background and Aims

Horsetails (Equisetopsida) diverged from other extant eusporangiate monilophytes in the Upper Palaeozoic. They are the only monilophytes known to contain the hemicellulose mixed-linkage (1 → 3, 1 → 4)-β-d-glucan (MLG), whereas all land plants possess xyloglucan. It has been reported that changes in cell-wall chemistry often accompanied major evolutionary steps. We explored changes in hemicelluloses occurring during Equisetum evolution.

Methods

Hemicellulose from numerous monilophytes was treated with lichenase and xyloglucan endoglucanase. Lichenase digests MLG to di-, tri- and tetrasaccharide repeat-units, resolvable by thin-layer chromatography.

Key Results

Among monilophytes, MLG was confined to horsetails. Our analyses support a basal trichotomy of extant horsetails: MLG was more abundant in subgenus Equisetum than in subgenus Hippochaete, and uniquely the sister group E. bogotense yielded almost solely the tetrasaccharide repeat-unit (G4G4G3G). Other species also gave the disaccharide, whereas the trisaccharide was consistently very scarce. Tetrasaccharide : disaccharide ratios varied interspecifically, but with no consistent difference between subgenera. Xyloglucan was scarce in Psilotum and subgenus Equisetum, but abundant in subgenus Hippochaete and in the eusporangiate ferns Marattia and Angiopteris; leptosporangiate ferns varied widely. All monilophytes shared a core pattern of xyloglucan repeat-units, major XEG products co-chromatographing on thin-layer chromatography with non-fucosylated hepta-, octa- and nonasaccharides and fucose-containing nona- and decasaccharides.

Conclusions

G4G4G3G is the ancestral repeat-unit of horsetail MLG. Horsetail evolution was accompanied by quantitative and qualitative modification of MLG; variation within subgenus Hippochaete suggests that the structure and biosynthesis of MLG is evolutionarily plastic. Xyloglucan quantity correlates negatively with abundance of other hemicelluloses; but qualitatively, all monilophyte xyloglucans conform to a core pattern of repeat-unit sizes.  相似文献
