The gene encoding nitrite reductase (nir) from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942 has been identified and sequenced. This gene comprises 1536 nucleotides and would encode a polypeptide of 56506 Da that shows similarity to nitrite reductase from higher plants and to the sulfite reductase hemoprotein from enteric bacteria. Identities found at positions corresponding to those amino acids which in the above-mentioned proteins hold the Fe4S4-siroheme active center suggest that nitrite reductase from Synechococcus bears an active site much alike that present in those reductases. The fact that the Synechococcus and higher-plant nitrite reductases are homologous proteins gives support to the endosymbiont theory for the origin of chloroplasts.  相似文献

Apanteles sp.group ultor [Hym.: Braconidae] is the dominant and most widely distributed parasite ofEctomyelois ceratoniae (Zeller). The parasitization percent was increased from 10 % during April to 35 % at the end of the pomegranate fruiting season at October. Female parasite preferred to infest the host larvae at the age of, 2–3 days than 7 day old. The average number of host larvae parasitized by single female parasite was 58 under the rearing conditions of 27±2 °C., 55±10% RH and photoperiod of 16 h light per day. Parasites other thanA. spgroup ultor were:Bracon hebetor Say.,Ascogaster sp., andPhanerotoma sp. [Braconidae];Nemeritis canescens Grav. The genome of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 contains an operon with homology to the sulfate permease of other prokaryotes. We used antibodies raised against cytoplasmic membrane protein to find three genes with strong homology to sbpA, orf81 and cysT genes of the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhymurium and Marchantia polymorpha. It is likely that the permease genes are expressed and the proteins are inserted into the cytoplasmic membrane.  相似文献

Incidence of parasites ofLymantria obfuscata Walker [Lymantriidae: Lepidoptera] was studied in Kashmir during 1983 and 1984. The only egg parasite reared wasAnastatus kashmirensis Mathur parasitising between 4.49 to 11.92 percent of eggs. From 15 study sites as many as 10475 larvae of different stages and pupae were collected and reared in laboratory.Exorista rossica [Tachinidae: Diptera] was recorded to parasitize upto 8.42 per cent of larvae compared to 0.89 percent byCompsilura sp.Tetrastichus sp. [Eulophidae: Hymenoptera] was observed to be most dominant of the 6 pupal parasites, accounting for 33.41 percent of the measured parasitism, followed byPimpla sp. [Ichneumonidae: Hymenoptera] andTheronia atalantae atalantae [Ichneumonidae: Hymenoptera] which parasitized 6.84 and 4.03 per cent of pupae respectively.Brachymeria intermedia Nees [Chalcididae: Hymenoptera] was recorded to parasitize upto 2.98 per cent whereasBrachymeria lasus Walker recorded for the first time in Kashmir was found to parasitize up to 2.01 per cent, but was not widely distributed in the State.  相似文献

Synechococcus sp. strains PCC 7942 and PCC 6301 contain a 35 kDa protein called IdiA (Iron deficiency induced protein A) that is expressed in elevated amounts under Fe deficiency and to a smaller extent also under Mn deficiency. Absence of this protein was shown to mainly damage Photosystem II. To decide whether IdiA has a function in optimizing and/or protecting preferentially either the donor or acceptor side reaction of Photosystem II, a comparative analysis was performed of Synechococcus sp. PCC 7942 wild-type, the IdiA-free mutant, the previously constructed PsbO-free Synechococcus PCC 7942 mutant and a newly constructed Synechococcus PCC 7942 double mutant lacking both PsbO and IdiA. Measurements of the chlorophyll fluorescence and determinations of Photosystem II activity using a variety of electron acceptors gave evidence that IdiA has its main function in protecting the acceptor side of Photosystem II. Especially, the use of dichlorobenzoquinone, preferentially accepting electrons from QA, gave a decreased O2 evolving activity in the IdiA-free mutant. Investigations of the influence of hydrogen peroxide treatment on cells revealed that this treatment caused a significantly higher damage of Photosystem II in the IdiA-free mutant than in wild-type. These results suggest that although the IdiA protein is not absolutely required for Photosystem II activity in Synechococcus PCC 7942, it does play an important role in protecting the acceptor side against oxidative damage. The transformation of the fresh water cyanobacterium Synechococcus PCC7942 with the shuttle-vector pAQ-EX1 developed for the marine cyanobacterium S. PCC7002 was examined. The S. PCC7942 cells were successfully transformed with the pAQ-EX1 vector, and the vector was stably maintained in the transformant cells.  相似文献

A physical map of the unicellular cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. strain PCC6301 genome has been constructed with restriction endonucleases PmeI, SwaI, and an intron-encoded endonuclease I-CeuI. The estimated size of the genome is 2.7 Mb. On the genome 49 genes or operons have been mapped. Two rRNA operons are separated by 600 kb and transcribed oppositely.  相似文献

We have previously constructed the physical map of a cyanobacterium,Synechoystis sp. strain PCC6803 on the basis of restrictionand linking clone analysis. Since a total of 82 genes and geneclusters have been isolated from this strain, most of whichare involved in oxygenic photosynthesis, portions of their sequenceswere amplified by the PCR method and assigned on the physicalmap of the genome by hybridization with restriction fragments,ordered clones, which were obtained from cosmid and libraries,and long PCR-products. An exception was the gene psbG2 whichwas mapped on an extra-chromosomal unit of 45 kb. Since geneticmaps of some of genes assigned above, especially those for photosynthesis,have been reported for two other cyanobacterial strains, Anabaenasp. PCC7120 and Synechococcus sp. PCC7002, gene organizationswere compared among the three strains. However, no significantcorrelation was observed, suggesting that rearrangement of genesoccurred in the respective strains during or after establishmentof the species.  相似文献
