Communities of metazoan parasites in ten species of fishes from Cold Lake, Alberta are described and compared. Relative abundances in the overall community of parasites in the lake were estimated using data on abundance in each host species, plus estimates of the relative abundances of the species of hosts. Parasites of the numerically dominant salmonid fishes dominated the overall community, with over half of the individual parasites being Metechinorhynchus salmonis . Exchange of parasites between host species was greatest between related and/or abundant host species. Parasite communities in cisco and whitefish, Coregonus spp., were relatively rich in species and diverse (Simpson's index) compared with communities in those species in other lakes in North America; communities in lake trout, Salvelinus spp., and the non-salmonid fishes were poor in species and low in diversity compared with communities in other lakes. Parasite species overlaps (Jaccard index) between related host species in Cold Lake were greater than overlaps within host species between lakes. The same pattern is seen in data from some other lakes. These features support the hypothesis of Wisiewski (1958); that the parasite community within an ecosystem is characterized by parasites of the numerically dominant hosts.  相似文献

A rhamnolipid producing bacterium,Pseudomonas aeruginosa HR was isolated from south of Iranian oil wells. In the previous study, effects of main factors of cultivation on production of biosurfactant by this strain were evaluated and their optimized values were determined. In the present paper, the ability of produced biosurfactant in oil recovery was investigated. For this purpose, its affect on enhanced oil recovery in sand pack and core holder obtained from oil wells was evaluated. It was found that the maximum oil recovery in saturated sand pack column and in saturated core holder of crude oil were 23.6 and 64%, respectively. Then, in core test mathematical model was proposed by considering interactions between given parameters. Furthermore, dependence of residual oil recovery on the process of core washing during injection of biosurfactant was investigated. Finally, capillary desaturation curve was compared with core flood data.  相似文献

A full-scale study was conducted to evaluate microbiocide efficacy to control the indigenous sulfide-producing bacterial population in produced water at Kathloni, Oil India Limited (OIL), Assam (northeast India). The sulfide-producing culturable bacterial strains present in produced water of Kathloni oilfield were identified as Anaerobaculum mobile, Garciella nitratireducens, Clostridium sporogenes, Thermosediminibacter oceani, Coprothermobacter sp., Thermodesulfovibrio sp., Thermodesulfobacterium sp., Thermodesulfotobacterium sp., and Caldanaerobacter sp. These strains could produce sulfide in the range of 50–200 mg l?1 and volatile fatty acids such as acetic acid, propionic acid, isobutyric acid, butyric acid, and isovaleric acid. Out of 10 microbiocides screened, three (sodium hypochlorite, benzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, and 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol) were selected to control the growth and sulfide production by the aforementioned mixed bacterial species. A strategy was designed in which these three microbiocides were sequentially applied in an oilfield for 132 days. There was no significant difference in the chemical composition of the produced water after the treatment.  相似文献

The Ames Salmonella/microsomal activation mutagenesis assay has been adapted to improve sensitivity to complex hydrocarbon mixtures produced by the refining of petroleum. Extraction of oil samples with dimethyl sulfoxide produces aqueous-compatible solutions that more easily interact with the tester bacteria. These extracts, therefore, produce higher revertant values than do equivalent volumes of oil delivered neat or dissolved in organic solvent. Parallel increases in the liver microsomal S-9 concentration further improve the sensitivity of the assay, allowing detection of mutagenicity in otherwise inactive samples. The effect of increased microsomal fraction from rodent liver is apparently attributable to the higher levels of activating enzymes rather than to the concomitant increase in the overall hydrophobicity of the test system. The modified assay has been used to rank thirteen petroleum-derived oils and a corn oil control for relative mutagenic activity. 镉(Cd)因其广泛的环境污染而成为20世纪人类关注的一种重金属。虽然现在仍不知道镉具有的生理功能,但有证据表明镉是一个具有生物活性的金属。一般人镉暴露的主要途径食品摄入,其次饮水等途径。尽管一些地方病的证据有力支持了镉潜在的致癌特性,但由于环境中化学物质和吸烟等生活习惯与镉暴露之间存在难以区分的致病影响,使镉致病的研究得出了并不一致的结论,引起了镉致癌性的争论。该文通过对人类镉暴露的文献综述,试图理解土壤、食品中镉的生物有效性与疾病,特别是致癌性的关系。值得强调的是文献报道人体内营养元素铁(Fe)、锌(Zn)和钙(Ca)浓度的提高,对减少镉的吸收、减轻镉中毒都具有重要的作用,这也许是我们彻底解决人类镉暴露风险的突破口。  相似文献

We have recently developed an alkaline elution/rat hepatocyte assay to sensitively measure DNA single-strand breaks induced by xenobiotics in non-radiolabeled rat hepatocytes. Here we have evaluated this assay as a predictor of carcinogenic/mutagenic activity by testing 91 compounds (64 carcinogens and 27 non-carcinogens) from more than 25 diverse chemical classes. Hepatocytes were isolated from uninduced rats by collagenase perfusion, exposed to chemicals for 3 h, harvested, and analyzed for DNA single-strand breaks by alkaline elution. DNA determinations were done fluorimetrically. Cytotoxicity was estimated by glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase release or by trypan blue dye exclusion. The assay correctly predicted the reported carcinogenic/non-carcinogenic potential of 92% of the carcinogens tested and 85% of non-carcinogens tested. The assay detected a number of compounds, including inorganics, certain pesticides, and steroids, which give false-negative results in other short-term tests. Only 2 rat liver carcinogens were incorrectly identified; the other carcinogens incorrectly identified are weakly or questionably carcinogenic (i.e., they cause tumors only in one species, after lifetime exposure, or at high doses). Some chemicals cause DNA damage only at cytotoxic concentrations; of 16 such compounds in this study, 12 are weak carcinogens suggesting a link between DNA damage caused by cytotoxicity and carcinogenesis. Our data indicate that this assay rapidly, reproducibly, sensitively, and accurately detects DNA single-strand breaks in rat hepatocytes and that the production of these breaks correlates well with carcinogenic and mutagenic activity.  相似文献

Polyurethane (PUR) plastic sheets were prepared by reacting polyols synthesized from canola oil with aromatic diphenylmethane diisocyanate. The properties of the material were measured by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) as well as tensile properties measurements. The effect of stoichiometric balance (i.e., OH/NCO molar ratio) on the final properties was evaluated. The concentration of elastically active network chains (EANCs), nue, of the polymer networks was calculated using rubber elasticity theory. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) for the plastic sheets with OH/NCO molar ratios of 1.0/1.0, 1.0/1.1, and 1.0/1.2 were found to be 23, 41, and 43 degrees C, respectively. The kinetic studies of the degradation process of the PUR plastics showed three well-defined steps of degradation. The PUR plastic sheets with OH/NCO molar ratio 1.0/1.1 had the highest nue, lowest number-average molecule weight between cross-links, MC, and excellent mechanical properties, indicating that this is the optimum ratio in the PUR formulations.  相似文献

外来植物薇甘菊 (MikaniamicranthaKunth .)已成为华南地区重要的杂草 ,其挥发油对植物、真菌和细菌均具有生物活性 ,对植物和水稻稻瘟病菌的抑制活性尤其显著 .随着薇甘菊挥发油浓度 (2 0 0、4 0 0、80 0、16 0 0mg·L-1)的增加 ,6种受试植物幼苗的生长随之明显减弱 .薇甘菊挥发油 (2 5 0 0 g·hm-2 )土壤处理 ,受试的 6种植物鲜重明显减少 ,出苗时间推迟 1~ 2d .薇甘菊挥发油在中等浓度 (40 0mg·L-1)时 ,对水稻稻瘟病菌的抑制作用最强 ,抑菌率为 5 3.38%;对香蕉枯萎病菌的抑制作用次之 ,抑菌率为2 8.6 6 %;对长春花疫病菌的抑制作用最弱 ,抑菌率为 18.6 9%.  相似文献

Bioflocculants are safe, biodegradable and environmentally friendly biopolymeric materials. These merits portend it as preferred alternative to inorganic and organic synthetic polymeric flocculants. The culture conditions optimal for the production of bioflocculant by Micrococcus sp. Leo with subsequent evaluation of the properties of the produced compound were investigated. Optimum culture conditions for bioflocculant production included 2% (vol/vol) inoculum size, incubation temperature of 28°C, agitation speed of 160 rpm and initial pH of 4.0. Glucose and (NH4)2SO4 and Al3+ were the best as sole carbon, nitrogen and cation sources, respectively. The purified bioflocculant flocculated kaolin suspension optimally at a dosage of 0.2 mg/mL following jar test, and flocculating activity of about 70% was retained after heat treatment of 100°C. Chemical analysis showed that the bioflocculant was composed of 28.4% polysaccharide, 2.6% protein and 9.7%. uronic acid. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that the bioflocculant could not decompose completely at 400°C. FTIR spectra revealed the presence of hydroxyl, carboxyl and amino groups as the main functional groups. The bioflocculant produced by Micrococcus sp. Leo appears to hold promise as an alternative to conventional flocculants commonly used in water/wastewater treatment.  相似文献

The composition of pitch deposits occurring in pulp sheets and mill circuits during soda/anthraquinone pulping and elemental chlorine-free pulp bleaching of bast fibers of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa) was studied. Pitch deposits were extracted with acetone, and the extracts analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Acetone extracts (15-25% of pitch deposits) were constituted by the defoamers used at the mill and by lipophilic extractives from hemp fibers. Acetone-insoluble residues (75-85% of pitch deposits) were analyzed by pyrolysis-GC/MS in the presence and absence of tetramethylammonium hydroxide. These residues were constituted by salts of fatty acids (arising from hemp fibers) with calcium, magnesium, aluminum and other cations that were identified in the deposits. It was concluded that inappropriate use of defoamer together with the presence of multivalent ions seemed to be among the causes of hemp extractives deposition in the pitch problems reported here.  相似文献

Catalytic conversion of un-pretreated Jatropha oil with high-acid value (13.8 mg KOH/g) to biodiesel was studied in ionic liquids (ILs) with metal chlorides. Several commercial ILs were used to catalyze the esterification of oleic acid. It was found that 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tosylate ([BMIm][CH3SO3]; a Brønsted acidic IL) had the highest catalytic activity with 93% esterification rate for oleic acid at 140 °C but only 12% biodiesel yield at 120 °C. When FeCl3 was added to [BMIm][CH3SO3], a maximum biodiesel yield of 99.7% was achieved at 120 °C. Because metal ions in ILs supplied Lewis acidic sites, and more of the sites could be provided by trivalent metallic ions than those of bivalent ones. It was also found that the catalytic activity with bivalent metallic ions increased with atomic radius. Mixture of [BMIm][CH3SO3] and FeCl3 was easily separated from products for reuse to avoid producing pollutants.  相似文献

Lactobacillus delbrueckii cultured with peanut oil cake as the carbon source yielded 5.35 mg ml(-1) of biosurfactant production. Five sets of microcosm biodegradation experiments were carried out with crude oil as follows: set 1 - bacterial cells+crude oil, set 2 - bacterial cells+crude oil+fertilizer, set 3 - bacterial cells+crude oil+biosurfactant, set 4 - bacterial cells+crude oil+biosurfactant+fertilizer, set 5 - with no bacterial cells, fertilizer and biosurfactant (control). Maximum degradation of crude oil was observed in set 4 (75%). Interestingly, when biosurfactant and bacterial cells were used (set 3), significant oil biodegradation activity occurred and the difference between this treatment and that in set 4 was 7% higher degradation level in microcosm experiments. It is evident from the results that biosurfactants alone is capable of promoting biodegradation to a large extent without added fertilizers.  相似文献

Fossil seeds and seedlings of a Metasequoia-like taxodiaceous conifer occur in Paleocene deposits at the Munce's Hill and Gao Mine localities of central Alberta, Canada. Compression/impression specimens are preserved in upright growth positions among seedlings of the cercidiphyllaceous dicot Joffrea speirsii Crane & Stockey. There are a large number of seeds, a few of which were buried while germinating and show a radicle or short primary root. More than 500 Metasequoia-like seedlings have been identified that have two linear cotyledons with parallel margins and rounded tips. Three specimens have been found that display three cotyledons. Slightly older seedlings show decussate pairs of leaves attached to the stem distal to the cotyledons. Still older seedlings have axillary branches that show varying sizes and numbers of opposite leaves arranged in a single plane distal to the opposite pairs. These specimens reveal that both Joffrea and this extinct taxodiaceous conifer were early colonizers of North American floodplain communities at the beginning of the Tertiary.  相似文献

The genotoxicity of extractable organic matter (EOM) from airborne particles in Shanghai has been determined using short-term bioassays. EOM samples were investigated using cell morphological transformation and two-stage model of mouse skin tumorigenicity assays to detect their carcinogenic activity. DNA adducts were detected using the 32P-postlabeling technique. The results showed that EOMs induced cell morphological transformation and played a role in tumor-initiating carcinogenesis. The EOMs of airborne particles from different districts of Shanghai had similar carcinogenic activity except the result of sample E (at downtown of Shanghai) was relatively high. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) fraction makes a major contribution to carcinogenic activity according to the results of cell morphological transformation assay. DNA adducts were also detected in skin, liver, and kidney of mouse after treatment with EOMs. It is suggested that the urban airborne particles in Shanghai, which show carcinogenic potential and genotoxic activity in our bioassays, may be responsible for the increased incidence of lung cancer in Shanghai in last few years.  相似文献

A notable proportion of the population is exposed to an increasing number of devices emitting microwaves, a form of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation in the range 300-30000 mHz. The activation energy of microwave radiations is too small to directly modify any chemical bonds in the irradiated matter. At microwave frequencies the macroscopic dielectric properties of tissues are strongly determined by their water content. Tissues like muscle, brain, skin, with a high water content, have higher permittivity and conductivity values than bone or fat with low water contents. Owing to the energy transfer, to living tissues, by a dipolar relaxation mechanism of water molecules, the penetration of microwaves is limited and one observes a fast and very efficient heat-loss production. A review of the available literature shows that most results on the mutagenicity of microwaves are negative or can often be explained by a temperature enhancement. If microwaves are apparently unable to damage DNA at sub-thermal exposure levels, some results indicate, however, that they might easily potentiate the damaging action of other DNA antagonist agents such as UV or chemicals.  相似文献

Based on the characteristics of natural vegetation distribution in northeast China, using multivariate analysis and geographical information system technology, we established a regional ‘vegetation–environment’ model to simulate geographical distribution of 16 natural vegetation types under present environmental conditions, representing the potential natural vegetation (PNV) of northeast China, on the basis of digital maps of seven environmental variables including climate and topography. Comparison of simulated PNVs distributions with the actual natural vegetation distribution indicated a good agreement, with overall predictive accuracy of 66.9% and overall Kappa value of 0.67. The predictions of model, however, were poor, for only 0.62 of AUC value was yielded. The current resolution and accuracy of the model can be applied to simulate and map the natural vegetation pattern at the regional scale and also used to analyze the effect of climatic changes on natural vegetation.  相似文献
