The differences in pigment levels, photosynthetic activity and the chlorophyll fluorescence decrease ratio R Fd (as indicator of photosynthetic rates) of green sun and shade leaves of three broadleaf trees (Platanus acerifolia Willd., Populus alba L., Tilia cordata Mill.) were compared. Sun leaves were characterized by higher levels of total chlorophylls a + b and total carotenoids x + c as well as higher values for the weight ratio chlorophyll (Chl) a/b (sun leaves 3.23–3.45; shade leaves: 2.74–2.81), and lower values for the ratio chlorophylls to carotenoids (a + b)/(x + c) (with 4.44–4.70 in sun leaves and 5.04–5.72 in shade leaves). Sun leaves exhibited higher photosynthetic rates P N on a leaf area basis (mean of 9.1–10.1 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1) and Chl basis, which correlated well with the higher values of stomatal conductance G s (range 105–180 mmol m−2 s−1), as compared to shade leaves (G s range 25–77 mmol m−2 s−1; P N: 3.2–3.7 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1). The higher photosynthetic rates could also be detected via imaging the Chl fluorescence decrease ratio R Fd, which possessed higher values in sun leaves (2.8–3.0) as compared to shade leaves (1.4–1.8). In addition, via R Fd images it was shown that the photosynthetic activity of the leaves of all trees exhibits a large heterogeneity across the leaf area, and in general to a higher extent in sun leaves than in shade leaves.  相似文献

Summary Balance sheets were computed for total nitrogen and phosphorus in plough layer (0–15 cm) of a Typic Ustochrept soil under continuous multiple cropping for seven years (1971–72 to 1977–78) with a fixed rotation of pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoideum L.) wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (Vigna sinensis Savi.) The treatments considered of soil test-based rates of N, P and K, applied both singly and in combinations together with farm yard manure, sulphur and zinc superimposed over optimum rates (100%) of NPK. Heavy, losses of N (762–899 kg ha−1) occurred in the plots which received high rates of Nviz. 150% of recommended NPK and 100% NPK plus FYM. Application of N alone accelerated N losses whereas addition of P, PK, PKS to N minimised such losses. Enrichment of P (66 to 198 kg ha−1) occurred in all phosphate-treated plots. A marginal net decrease (29–54 kg ha−1) in P levels was observed in control and N alone treatments.  相似文献

Fast repetition rate fluorometry (FRRF) was successfully applied to various studies in modern oceanography. In this study, for the first time, the seasonality of phytoplankton photosynthetic parameters in a deep alpine lake was observed using FRRF in combination with the traditional 14C incubation technique. Special attention was given to the differences in photosynthetic behaviour during mixed and stratified conditions, characterised especially during summer by a deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM) dominated by the filamentous cyanobacterial species Planktothrix rubescens. Maximum light-utilisation efficiency (α*14C) was in the range of 0.01–0.03 mgC (mg Chl-a)−1 h−1 (μmol phot. m−2 s−1)−1, while maximum quantum yields for carbon fixation (ΦC,max) varied from 0.01–0.07 molC (mol phot.)−1. Higher values occurred during thermal stratification indicating acclimation of the phytoplankton assemblage. These findings were supported by FRRF-based estimates, although cyanobacterial blooms could not be characterised by FRRF-excitation due to methodological deficiencies. In general, however, instantaneous photosynthetic rates measured by FRRF-excitation correlate well at sub-saturating light-intensities with conventional 14C-uptake rates, although they operate on different time-scales.  相似文献

Osmotic water permeability of isolated vacuoles   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Morillon R  Lassalles JP 《Planta》1999,210(1):80-84
We measured the osmotic water permeability (P os) of vacuoles isolated from onion (Allium cepa L.), rape (Brassica napus L.), petunia (Petunia hybrida Hook.) and red beet (Beta vulgaris L.). For all the vacuolar types investigated, P os values were in the range 200–1000 μm s−1. The change in membrane surface area induced by an osmotic gradient was smaller than 2–6%. The vacuolar P os values for red beet and onion were reduced by 1 mM HgCl2, to 14% and 30% of the control values, respectively, but were partially restored to 51% and 76% by 5 mM β-mercaptoethanol. These results suggest that aquaporins were present in all the vacuoles tested. In HgCl2-treated onion vacuoles, the reduced P os (56 μm s−1) had a low activation energy (approx. 6 kJ mol−1), indicating that water permeation was still occurring mainly via aquaporins, and that the water permeability of the lipid part of the vacuolar membrane is probably very low. Photosynthetic parameters of phytoplankton and sea ice algae from landfast sea ice of the Chukchi Sea off Point Barrow, Alaska, were assessed in spring 2005 and winter through spring 2006 using Pulse Amplitude Modulated (PAM) fluorometry including estimates of maximum quantum efficiency (F v/F m), maximum relative electron transport rate (rETRmax), photosynthetic efficiency (α), and the photoadaptive index (E k). The use of centrifuged brine samples allowed to document vertical gradients in ice algal acclimation with 5 cm vertical resolution for the first time. Bottom ice algae (0–5 cm from ice–water interface) expressed low F v/F m (0.331–0.426) and low α (0.098–0.130 (μmol photons m−2s−1)−1) in December. F v/F m and α increased in March and May (0.468–0.588 and 0.141–0.438 (μmol photons m−2s−1)−1, respectively) indicating increased photosynthetic activity. In addition, increases in rETRmax (3.3–16.4 a.u.) and E k (20–88 μmol photons m−2 s−1) from December to May illustrates a higher potential for primary productivity as communities become better acclimated to under-ice light conditions. In conclusion, photosynthetic performance by ice algae (as assessed by PAM fluorometry) was tightly linked to sea ice salinity, temperature, and inorganic nutrient concentrations (mainly nitrogen).  相似文献

Soil pH is decreasing in many soils in the semiarid Great Plains of the United States under dry land no-till (NT) cropping systems. This study was conducted to determine the rate of acidification and the causes of the acidification of a soil cropped to a winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)-grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]/corn (Zea mays L.)-fallow rotation (W-S/C-F) under NT. The study was conducted from 1989 to 2003 on soil with a long-term history of either continuous NT management [NT(LT)] (1962–2003) or conventional tillage (CT) (1962–1988) then converted to NT [NT(C)] (1989–2003). Nitrogen was applied as ammonium nitrate (AN) at a rate of 23 kg N ha−1 in 1989 and as urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) at an average annual rate of 50 kg N ha−1 from 1990 to 2003 for both NT treatments. Soil samples were collected at depth increments of 0–5, 5–10, 10–15, and 15–30 cm in the spring of 1989 and 2003. Acidification rates for the NT(LT) and NT(C) treatments were 1.13 and 1.48 kmol H+ ha−1 yr−1 in the 0–30 cm depth, respectively. The amount of CaCO3 needed to neutralize the acidification is 57 and 74 kg ha−1 yr−1 for the NT(LT) and NT(C) treatments, respectively. A proton budget estimated by the Helyar and Porter [1989, Soil Acidity and Plant Growth, Academic Press] method indicated that NO3 leaching from the 30 cm depth was a primary cause of long-term acidification in this soil. Nitrate leaching accounted for 59 and 66% of the H+ from the acid causing factors for NT(LT) and NT(C) treatments, respectively. The addition of crop residues to the soil neutralized 62 and 47% of the acidity produced from the leaching of NO3, and 37 and 31% of the acid resulting from NO3 leaching and the other acid-causing constituents for the NT(LT) and NT(C) treatments, respectively. These results document that surface soils in dry land W-S/C-F rotations under NT are acidifying under current management practices. Improved management to increase nitrogen uptake efficiency from applied fertilizer would help reduce the rate of acidification. The addition of lime materials to prevent negative impacts on grain yields may be necessary in the future under current management practices. In a previous study, ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB)-like sequences were detected in the fragmentation layer of acid Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest soils (pH 2.9–3.4) with high nitrification rates (>11.0 μg g−1 dry soil week−1), but were not detected in soils with low nitrification rates (<0.5 μg g−1 dry soil week−1). In the present study, we investigated whether this low nitrification rate has a biotic cause (complete absence of AOB) or an abiotic cause (unfavorable environmental conditions). Therefore, two soils strongly differing in net nitrification were compared: one soil with a low nitrification rate (location Schoorl) and another soil with a high nitrification rate (location Wekerom) were subjected to liming and/or ammonium amendment treatments. Nitrification was assessed by analysis of dynamics in NH4 +-N and NO3 -N concentrations, whereas the presence and composition of AOB communities were assessed by polymerase chain reaction–denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and sequencing of the ammonia monooxygenase (amoA) gene. Liming, rather than ammonium amendment, stimulated the growth of AOB and their nitrifying activity in Schoorl soil. The retrieved amoA sequences from limed (without and with N amendment) Schoorl and Wekerom soils exclusively belong to Nitrosospira cluster 2. Our study suggests that low nitrification rates in acidic Scots pine forest soils are due to pH-related factors. Nitrosospira cluster 2 detected in these soils is presumably a urease-positive cluster type of AOB.  相似文献

Somatic embryogenesis can be induced in the leaves of cork oak (Quercus suber L.) trees. The use of this propagation system in multivarietal forestry requires the mass production of cloned plants at low cost. Investigations were made into the influence of three types of Erlenmeyer flask and three orbiting speeds (60, 110, and 160 rpm) on oxygen transfer rate (KL a), the shear force index (SFI), biomass production, and the proliferation of embryogenic clumps (EMCs) in cultures during the proliferation phase. KL a varied between 0.11 and 1.47 h−1 without biomass production being limited by oxygen availability. The EMCs grew even in hypoxic conditions, although the suppression of gaseous exchange strongly reduced biomass production. Cultures with different levels of hydrodynamic stress and SFI values (1.4·10−3–8.8·10−3 cm min−1) were obtained. Proliferation rates of EMCs increased with agitation rate and the SFI. The largest number of EMCs was obtained in baffled flasks agitated at 160 rpm (KL a of 1.47 h−1, and SFI of 8.8·10−3 cm min−1) with mild hydrodynamic stress enhancing growth. Biomass production increased with agitation and hydrodynamic stress, but only when the SFI value was below 5·10−3 cm min−1. The greatest biomass production was obtained in smooth 100 ml flasks agitated at 160 rpm. The differentiation of embryos was favoured by the lowest KL a (0.11 h−1) and SFI (1.40·103 cm min−1) values, achieved using these flasks when agitated at 60 rpm.  相似文献

Measurements of stem respiration were conducted for a period of four years (1999–2002) in 14-year old Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst) trees exposed to ambient (CA) and elevated CO2 concentration (CE; ambient plus 350 μmol mol−1). Stem respiration measurements of six trees per treatment were carried out 2–3 times per month during the growing season. Stem respiration in CE treatment was higher (up to 16 %) than in CA treatment. Temperature response of stem respiration (Q10) for the whole experimental period ranged between 1.65–2.57 in CA treatment and 2.24–2.56 in CE treatment. The mean stem respiration rate normalized to 10 °C (R10) in CA and CE treatments ranged between 1.67–1.95 and 2.19–2.72 μmol(CO2) m−2 s−1, respectively. Seasonal variations in stem respiration were related to temperature and tree growth.  相似文献

Nitrite-driven anaerobic ATP synthesis in barley and rice root mitochondria   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Mitochondria isolated from the roots of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings were capable of oxidizing external NADH and NADPH anaerobically in the presence of nitrite. The reaction was linked to ATP synthesis and nitric oxide (NO) was a measurable product. The rates of NADH and NADPH oxidation were in the range of 12–16 nmol min−1 mg−1 protein for both species. The anaerobic ATP synthesis rate was 7–9 nmol min−1 mg−1 protein for barley and 15–17 nmol min−1 mg−1 protein for rice. The rates are of the same order of magnitude as glycolytic ATP production during anoxia and about 3–5% of the aerobic mitochondrial ATP synthesis rate. NADH/NADPH oxidation and ATP synthesis were sensitive to the mitochondrial inhibitors myxothiazol, oligomycin, diphenyleneiodonium and insensitive to rotenone and antimycin A. The uncoupler FCCP completely eliminated ATP production. Succinate was also capable of driving ATP synthesis. We conclude that plant mitochondria, under anaerobic conditions, have a capacity to use nitrite as an electron acceptor to oxidize cytosolic NADH/NADPH and generate ATP.  相似文献

Nitrogenous excretion in two snails, Littorina saxatilis (high intertidal) and L. obtusata (low intertidal) was studied in relation to temperature acclimation (at 4° and 21°C), including total N excretion rates, the fraction of urea in N excretion, corresponding O:N ratios and the partitioning of deaminated protein between catabolic and anabolic processes at 4°, 11° and 21°C. Aggregate N excretion rates in both species showed no significant compensatory adjustments following acclimation. Total weight specific N excretion rates at 21°C were higher in standard 3 mg L. saxatilis (739 ng N mg−1 h−1) than standard 5 mg L. obtusata (257 ng N mg−1 h−1) for snails acclimated to 21°C. Comparisons of Q10 values of total weight specific N excretion to Q10 values for weight specific oxygen consumption ({xxV}O2) between 4° to 11 °C and 11° to 21°C indicated that, while total rates of catabolic metabolism ({xxV}O2) and protein deamination in L. obtusata were essentially parallel, the relationship between N excretion and {xxV}O2 in L. saxatilis revealed the partitioning of a larger share of deaminated protein carbon into anabolism at 4° and 21°C than at 11°C. Urea N accounted for a larger share of aggregate N excreted in L. saxatilis than in L. obtusata, but in both species urea N is a greater proportion of total N excreted when acclimated at 4°C (urea N: ammonia N ratio range: 1 to 2.15) than in snails acclimated to 21°C (urea N: ammonia N ratio range: 0.46 to 1.39). Molar O:N ratios indicate that the proportion of metabolism supported by protein catabolism is greater in L. saxatilis (O:N range: 2.5–8.4) than in L. obtusata (O:N range: 7.3–13.0). In both species, regardless of acclimation temperature, the O:N ratios are generally lowest (high protein catabolism) at 4°C and highest at 21°C.  相似文献

Rates of soil respiration (CO2 effluxes), subsurface pore gas CO2/O2 concentrations, soil temperature and soil water content were measured for 15 months in two temperate and contrasting Danish forest ecosystems: beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies [L.] Karst.). Soil CO2 effluxes showed a distinct seasonal trend in the range of 0.48–3.3 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1 for beech and 0.50–2.92 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1 for spruce and were well-correlated with near-surface soil temperatures. The soil organic C-stock (upper 1 m including the O-horizon) was higher in the spruce stand (184±23 Mg C ha−1) compared to the beech stand (93±19 Mg C ha−1) and resulted in a faster turnover time as calculated by mass/flux in soil beneath the beech stand (28 years) compared to spruce stand (60 years). Observed soil CO2 concentrations and effluxes were simulated using a Fickian diffusion-reaction model based on vertical CO2 production rates and soil diffusivity. Temporal trends were simulated on the basis of observed trends in the distribution of soil water, temperature, and live roots as well as temperature and water content sensitivity functions. These functions were established based on controlled laboratory incubation experiments. The model was successfully validated against observed soil CO2 effluxes and concentrations and revealed that temporal trends generally could be linked to variations in subsurface CO2 production rates and diffusion over time and with depths. However, periods with exceptionally high CO2 effluxes (> 20 μmol CO2 m−2 s−1) were noted in March 2000 in relation to drying after heavy rain and after the removal of snow from collars. Both cases were considered non-steady state and could not be simulated.  相似文献

Summary Short-term absorption experiments were conducted with intact barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seedlings to observe the effects of the osmotic potential (Ψπ) and salt species on nitrate uptake andin vivo nitrate reduction. The experiments consisted of growing barley seedlings for 5 days in complete nutrient solutions salinized to (Ψπ) levels of −0.6, −1.8, −3.0, −4.2, and −5.4 bars with NaCl, CaCl2 or Na2SO4. After the absorption period, the seedlings were separated into shoots and roots, weighed, then analyzed for NO3. The nutrient solutions were sampled for NO3 analysis each day immediately before renewing the solutions. The accumulative loss of NO3 from the solutions was considered to be uptake whereas NO3 reduction was the difference between uptake and seedling content. Lowering the (Ψπ) of the nutrient solutions resulted in decreased concentrations of NO3 in the plant, little or no effect (except at the lowest (Ψπ) level) on uptake, and increased nitrate reductase activity. Increased rates of NO3 reduction were in particular associated with the Cl concentration of the nutrient solution.  相似文献

Propionibacterium shermanii CDB 10014 is able to grow even at high oxygen transfer rates (24.0 mmol O2 l−1 h−1), in contrast to reports in the specialised literature, where all Propionibacteria are considered oxygen-sensitive microorganisms. Propionic acid is the main product in anaerobiosis. The presence of oxygen in the system leads to an inhibition of propionic acid production while acetic acid formation is enhanced. At high oxygen supply rates no propionic acid is produced and acetic acid is the main product. Lactic acid is also produced in reasonable quantities (2.7 g l−1). The growth rate (μmax) is higher in anaerobiosis (0.19 h−1) than in aerobiosis (0.12–0.15 h−1). The cell yield is higher in aerobiosis (0.18–0.22 g g−1) than in anaerobiosis (0.14 g g−1) suggesting the oxidative metabolism of glucose by Propionibacterium shermanii CDB 10014. No corrinoid production was detected at oxygen transfer rates of more than 13.6 mmol l−1 h−1. Received: 10 September 1997 / Received revision: 6 January 1998 / Accepted: 9 January 1998  相似文献

Although sea urchins are critical for controlling macroalgae on heavily fished coral reefs, high densities threaten reefs, as urchins are also prodigous bioeroders. This study examined urchin population characteristics, bioerosion rates, their fish predators (Labridae), and potential competitors (Scaridae) on unprotected reefs and a reef within a marine protected area (MPA) in the lagoonal regions off Belize. Urchin density (<1 m−2) and bioerosion rates (∼0.2 kg CaCO3 m−2 year−1) were lowest and members of the Labridae were the highest (∼20 fish 200 m−3) within the MPA, while several unprotected reefs had higher (∼18–40 m−2) urchin densities, lower Labridae abundances (1–3 fish 200 m−3), and bioerosion rates ranging from ∼0.3–2.6 kg CaCO3 m−2 year−1. Urchin abundances were inversely related to Labridae (wrasses and hogfish) densities; however, on reef ridges, low algal cover (∼15%), small urchin size (∼14 mm), and low proportion of organic material in urchin guts suggested food limitation. Both top–down (predation) and bottom–up factors (food limitation) likely contribute to the control of urchins, predominantly Echinometra viridis, off Belize, thereby potentially diminishing the negative impacts of bioerosion activities by urchins.  相似文献

During microbial breakdown of leaf litter a fraction of the C lost by the litter is not released to the atmosphere as CO2 but remains in the soil as microbial byproducts. The amount of this fraction and the factors influencing its size are not yet clearly known. We performed a laboratory experiment to quantify the flow of C from decaying litter into the soil, by means of stable C isotopes, and tested its dependence on litter chemical properties. Three sets of 13C-depleted leaf litter (Liquidambar styraciflua L., Cercis canadensis L. and Pinus taeda L.) were incubated in the laboratory in jars containing 13C-enriched soil (i.e. formed C4 vegetation). Four jars containing soil only were used as a control. Litter chemical properties were measured using thermogravimetry (Tg) and pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass spectrometry–combustion interface–isotope ratio mass spectrometry (Py–GC/MS–C–IRMS). The respiration rates and the δ13C of the respired CO2 were measured at regular intervals. After 8 months of incubation, soils incubated with both L. styraciflua and C. canadensis showed a significant change in δ13C (δ13Cfinal = −20.2 ± 0.4‰ and −19.5 ± 0.5‰, respectively) with respect to the initial value (δ13Cinitial = −17.7 ± 0.3‰); the same did not hold for soil incubated with P. taeda13Cfinal:−18.1 ± 0.5‰). The percentages of litter-derived C in soil over the total C loss were not statistically different from one litter species to another. This suggests that there is no dependence of the percentage of C input into the soil (over the total C loss) on litter quality and that the fractional loss of leaf litter C is dependent only on the microbial assimilation efficiency. The percentage of litter-derived C in soil was estimated to be 13 ± 3% of total C loss.  相似文献

Differences in leaf traits among the dune species developing along the Latium coast were analysed. Cakile maritima Scop. subsp. maritima, Elymus farctus (Viv.) Runemark ex Melderis subsp. farctus, Ammophila arenaria (L.) Link subsp. australis (Mabille) Lainz, Ononis variegata L., Pancratium maritimum L., Eryngium maritimum L., and Anthemis maritima L. were considered. The considered species showed a similar net photosynthetic rate (P N) and chlorophyll content (Chl) during the year, with a peak from the end of April to the middle of May [13.0±3.6 μmol (CO2) m−2 s−1 and 0.63±0.21 mg g−1, respectively, mean values of the considered species], favoured by air temperature in the range 13.3–17.5°C, and 6% of soil water availability. In June–July, the increase of air temperature (Tmax = 28.4°C), associated with a lower water availability (42 mm, total rainfall of the period) and a 1% of soil water availability determined a significant decrease of P N (59%, mean of the considered species) and Chl (38%), and an increase of the carotenoid (Car)/Chl ratio (59%). The significant correlation between P N and stomatal conductance (g s) (p<0.05) explained 67% of P N variations. Moreover, the correlation between P N and leaf temperature (T l) underlined that the favourable T l enabling 90–100% of the highest P N for the considered species was within the range 23.4 to 26.6°C. P N decreased below half of its maximum value when T l was over 35.8 and 37.4°C for E. farctus subsp. farctus and A. arenaria subsp. australis, respectively and over 32.2°C for the other considered species (mean value). Leaf mass area (LMA) varied from 6.8 ± 0.7 mg cm−2 (O. variegata) to 30.6 ± 1.6 mg cm−2 (A. arenaria). PCA (principal component analysis) carried out using the considered morphological and physiological leaf traits underlined that the co-occurring species were characterised by different adaptive strategies: E. farctus and A. arenaria photosynthesized for a long period also when air temperature was over 35.8 and 37.4°C, respectively, because of their lower transpiration rates [E, 1.4 ± 0.1 mmol (H2O) m−2 s−1], which seemed to be controlled by the highest LMA. On the contrary, A. maritima and C. maritima subsp. maritima had a higher P N (on an average 52% higher than the others) in the favourable period, allowed by the highest succulence index (SI, 85.7 ± 9 mg cm−2) and the lower LMA. The results allowed us to hypothesize that A. arenaria and E. farctus might be at a competitive advantage relative to the other considered species with respect to the increase of air temperature, by their ability to photosynthesize at sufficient rates also during summer.  相似文献

The effects on growth, quality and N uptake by turfgrass (Cynodon dactylon L.) during sod production of four fertiliser types applied at three application rates (100, 200 or 300 kg N ha−1 per ‘crop’) under two irrigation treatments (70% and 140% daily replacement of pan evaporation) were investigated. The fertiliser types were: water-soluble (predominately NH4NO3), control-release, pelletised poultry manure, and pelletised biosolids; and the experiment was conducted on a sandy soil in a Mediterranean-type climate. Plots were established from rhizomes, with the turfgrass harvested as sod every 16–28 weeks depending upon the time of the year. Four crops were produced during the study. Applying water-soluble and control-release fertilisers doubled shoot growth and improved turfgrass greenness by up to 10% in comparison with plots receiving pelletised poultry manure and pelletised biosolids. Nitrogen uptake into the shoots after four crops (averaged across irrigation treatments and N rates) was 497 kg N ha−1 for the water-soluble fertiliser, 402 kg N ha−1 for the control-release, 188 kg N ha−1 for the pelletised poultry manure and 237 kg N ha−1 for the pelletised biosolids. Consequently, the agronomic nitrogen-use efficiency (NAE, kg DM kg−1 N applied) of the inorganic fertilisers was approximately twice that of the organic fertilisers. Increasing irrigation from 70% to 140% replacement of pan evaporation was detrimental to turfgrass growth and N uptake for the first crop when supplied with the water-soluble fertiliser. Under the low irrigation treatment, inorganic N fertilisers applied at 200–300 kg N ha−1 were adequate for production of turfgrass sod. Section Editor: P. J. Randall  相似文献

Natural 15N abundance measurements of ecosystem nitrogen (N) pools and 15N pool dilution assays of gross N transformation rates were applied to investigate the potential of δ15N signatures of soil N pools to reflect the dynamics in the forest soil N cycle. Intact soil cores were collected from pure spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and mixed spruce-beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) stands on stagnic gleysol in Austria. Soil δ15N values of both forest sites increased with depth to 50 cm, but then decreased below this zone. δ15N values of microbial biomass (mixed stand: 4.7 ± 0.8‰, spruce stand: 5.9 ± 0.9‰) and of dissolved organic N (DON; mixed stand: 5.3 ± 1.7‰, spruce stand: 2.6 ± 3.3‰) were not significantly different; these pools were most enriched in 15N of all soil N pools. Denitrification represented the main N2O-producing process in the mixed forest stand as we detected a significant 15N enrichment of its substrate NO3 (3.6 ± 4.5‰) compared to NH4+ (−4.6 ± 2.6‰) and its product N2O (−11.8 ± 3.2‰). In a 15N-labelling experiment in the spruce stand, nitrification contributed more to N2O production than denitrification. Moreover, in natural abundance measurements the NH4+ pool was slightly 15N-enriched (−0.4 ± 2.0 ‰) compared to NO3 (−3.0 ± 0.6 ‰) and N2O (−2.1 ± 1.1 ‰) in the spruce stand, indicating nitrification and denitrification operated in parallel to produce N2O. The more positive δ15N values of N2O in the spruce stand than in the mixed stand point to extensive microbial N2O reduction in the spruce stand. Combining natural 15N abundance and 15N tracer experiments provided a more complete picture of soil N dynamics than possible with either measurement done separately.  相似文献

This study evaluated the effects of forest fertilization on the forest carbon (C) dynamics in a 36-year-old larch (Larix leptolepis) plantation in Korea. Above- and below-ground C storage, litterfall, root decomposition and soil CO2 efflux rates after fertilization were measured for 2 years. Fertilizers were applied to the forest floor at rates of 112 kg N ha−1 year−1, 75 kg P ha−1 year−1 and 37 kg K ha−1 year−1 for 2 years (May 2002, 2003). There was no significant difference in the above-ground C storage between fertilized (41.20 Mg C ha−1) and unfertilized (42.25 Mg C ha−1) plots, and the C increment was similar between the fertilized (1.65 Mg C ha−1 year−1) and unfertilized (1.52 Mg C ha−1 year−1) plots. There was no significant difference in the soil C storage between the fertilized and unfertilized plots at each soil depth (0–15, 15–30 and 30–50 cm). The organic C inputs due to litterfall ranged from 1.57 Mg C ha−1 year−1 for fertilized to 1.68 Mg C ha−1 year−1 for unfertilized plots. There was no significant difference in the needle litter decomposition rates between the fertilized and unfertilized plots, while the decomposition of roots with 1–2 mm diameters increased significantly with the fertilization relative to the unfertilized plots. The mean annual soil CO2 efflux rates for the 2 years were similar between the fertilized (0.38 g CO2 m−2 h−1) and unfertilized (0.40 g CO2 m−2 h−1) plots, which corresponded with the similar fluctuation in the organic carbon (litterfall, needle and root decomposition) and soil environmental parameters (soil temperature and soil water content). These results indicate that little effect on the C dynamics of the larch plantation could be attributed to the 2-year short-term fertilization trials and/or the soil fertility in the mature coniferous plantation used in this study.  相似文献
