Four types of blood capillaries of the phoronid Phoronopsis harmeri are described. These are capillaries of the tentacles, of the body, of the stomach plexus, and of the vasoperitoneal tissue. The wall of capillary consists of cells of the coelomic lining, a layer of extracellular matrix, and separate endothelial cells. Myoepithelial coelomic cells of tentacle capillaries contain cross-striated fibers. In capillaries of the body and the stomach plexus, the myofilaments are smooth. In the cells of the wall of vasoperitoneal tissue capillaries, myofilaments are lacking. The cells of the vessel wall of the tentacles, the body, and the vasoperitoneal tissue bear a single cilium. The cells of capillaries of the stomach plexus lack a cilium. The ultrastructure of erythrocytes and amebocytes is described. In the cytoplasm of erythrocytes, there is a basal body. It is assumed that erythrocytes originated from the ciliary cells of the wall of the blood vessels.  相似文献

Summary Eyes of vervets were fixed by several methods, and the iris capillaries were studied by electron microscopy. The capillaries have a continuous endothelium without fenestrae. Tight junctions are always present in intercellular clefts of the endothelium, and marginal folds are frequent. A rather thick basement membrane is present, similar to what is found in the human iris. Pericytes are frequent, and specialized areas of membrane contact between endothelium and pericytes are described. Peculiar marginal vacuoles are found in the endothelium after perfusion with hypertonic fixative.  相似文献

Ultrastructural studies have been made on the dark and light cells, as well as on their interconnections with capillaries in the tegmentum vasculosum of the chick cochlea. The dark cells exhibit ultrastructural peculiarities which are typical for ion transporting cells: their lower part is presented by a system of numerous cytoplasmic projections filled with mitochondria. The role of the light cells is less evident. It is suggested that they may control the exchange of ions and other metabolites between the dark cells and capillaries. Significant ultrastructural differences are described between the tegmentum vasculosum in chicks and the stria vascularis in mammals.  相似文献

The structure of human zygapophyseal joint synovial folds as seen by high-power light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy is described. By means of light and electron microscopy vascularization of the myenteric plexus has been studied in the pigeon small intestine. Ganglia of the plexus, their cell composition, ultrastructure of neurons have been described. Links of the microcirculatory bed of the intramural ganglia are characterized, interrelations of capillaries with neurons are described, quantitative estimation of microhemovessels, surrounding the microcirculatory bed of the myenteric plexus in the intestinal wall in birds and mammalia.  相似文献

In this review we present immunohistochemical methods for visualization of capillaries and muscle fibres in thick muscle sections. Special attention is paid to the procedures that preserve good morphology. Applying confocal microscopy and virtual 3D stereological grids, or tracing of capillaries in virtual reality, length of capillaries within a muscle volume or length of capillaries adjacent to a muscle fibre per fibre length, fibre surface area or fibre volume can be evaluated by an unbiased approach. Moreover, 3D models of capillaries and muscle fibres can be produced. Comparison of the developed methods with counting capillary profiles from 2D sections is discussed and the reader is warned that counting capillary profiles from 2D sections can underestimate the capillary length by as much as 75 percent. Application of the described 3D methodology is illustrated by the anatomical remodelling of capillarity during acute denervation and early reinnervation in the rat soleus and extensor digitorum longus muscles.  相似文献

A simple microtechnique for the endotoxin assay with Limulus amebocyte lysate is described. Mixtures of 1 μl of reagent with 1 μl of test sample are incubated in 5-μl capillaries which are subsequently dipped into a dye solution. In the absence of a firm gel the dye enters the capillaries whereas a firm gel, formed in the presence of endotoxin, prevents the stain from entering the capillaries. The technique offers a great saving of reagent; unequivocal distinction between positive and negative results, a good reproducibility, and a sensitivity equal to or higher than those in previously reported techniques could be demonstrated.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Trophozoites and what appear to be early spore forms of a parasitic protozoan present in the spinal cord of the lungfish Polypterus enlicheri are described. They are probably intra- and extracellular invaders into the anterior horn and are frequently located near capillaries. They provoke a glial response. Lymphatic vessels of the small intestine mesentery have been investigated in 36 human fetuses 3-6-month-old. Lymphatic postcapillaries are the predominant link in the lymphomicrocirculatory bed studied. They differ from the capillaries only by presence of valves. Intersegmentary valves and velves at the places where the lymphatic capillaries get into the postcapillaries are described; they are situated along the whole length of the postcapillary. Both types of the valves can be uni- and besinusoid, and according to the number of endotheliocytes, covering the sinuses, uni- and multicellular. Cells of fibroblastic line and developing collagenous fibers are inevitable structural components and situate in their base. Ultrastructural peculiarities of the lymphatic postcapillary wall are described. Structural mechanisms responsible for dilatation and narrowing of the vascular lumen (formation of the pulse wave) are discussed. The data obtained support the conception successively elaborated by V. V. Kuprianov on the lymphatic postcapillary as an inevitable link of the lymphomicrocirculatory bed.  相似文献

In the composition of the stria vascularis of the rabbit cochlea there are three types of cells: edging, medial and basal cells. The structure of these cells, their disposition and interrelationships within the stria vascularis are described. The nodes of the basal membrane whose ramification covers long mitichondria concentrating at the basement of edging cells are found in the structure of capillaries of the cochlea stria vascularis. It may be supposed that this powerful mitochondrial apparatus refers to the capillary system of the stria vascularis and represents a hypertrophic mitochondrial apparatus of pericytes. The capillaries of the stria vascularis are distributed mainly in longitudinal direction while the capillaries disposed transversely which are likely to be anastomoses were also found.  相似文献

Blood capillaries have been studied electron microscopically in the areas of grafts (rat embryonal hippocamp and septal cerebral parts transplanted to mature rats) containing mainly nervous, glial or connective tissue cells. Certain differences in the capillary wall structure have been revealed. In areas with a great concentration of nervous cells, the blood capillaries are characterized by a dense arrangement of cellular elements in their walls, a continuous layer of the glial end-feet, this is specific for the CNS capillaries providing the blood--brain barrier. In peripheral area of the grafts, where glial elements predominate, the capillaries have loose arrangement of the mural cellular elements, great endotheliocyte activity, thick connective tissue tunic, lack of a dense glial surrounding. These characteristics make dubious the statement whether these capillaries possess the blood--brain barrier function. In places where connective tissue cells make aggregates, the capillaries do not possess the barrier properties because of perforations and fenestrae in endothelium and interruptions of the basal membrane, absence of pericapillary glial elements. All types of the capillaries demonstrate certain signs of a high functional activity. Formation of the capillary structure depends on the surrounding tissue.  相似文献

Abstract: A simple method for the preparation of microvessels from the spinal cord is described. The fraction being enriched in the microvessels is characterized by morphological techniques and compared biochemically with the original suspension. The method makes possible detailed studies on the metabolism of microvessels and can be complementary to procedures that have been developed for separating the capillaries from other brain tissues.  相似文献

The results of direct pressure measurements are described which demonstrate that pressures in a certain fraction of mesenteric capillaries remain remarkably constant during large changes in systemic pressure. The results of isogravimetric studies, reported in the literature, are also described which indicate that this phenomenon may also occur in the intestine. The question is raised whether capillary pressures may therefore be regulated. Pressures recorded from mesenteric arterioles and capillaries are shown which indicate that maintenance of a constant capillary pressure is primarily the consequence of the vascular architecture peculiar to this tissue, and is merely a secondary reflection of mechanisms associated with flow regulation. The results of direct pressure measurements recorded in the microcirculation of intestinal muscle are also shown. These data indicate that capillary pressures in innervated, denervated, and xylocaine-treated intestinal muscle change in direct proportion to variations in arterial pressure. It is concluded that capillary pressures in the intestinal muscle layers are therefore not regulated, so that the observation that capillary pressures may be maintained is probably a phenomenon unique to the mesentery. Pressures recorded from capillaries in the mucosal villi are also shown and compared to capillary pressures measured in the microvasculature of mesentery and intestinal muscle. When systemic pressure was normal (107 +/- 10 mm Hg), capillary pressure in the mesentery averaged 30 to 33 mm Hg; capillary pressures in the intestinal muscle averaged 22 to 24 mm Hg; and capillary pressures in the mucosal villi averaged 13 to 15 mm Hg. These data suggest that mesenteric capillaries are primarily a filtering network; intestinal muscle capillaries are normally in fluid balance; whereas at rest mucosal capillaries are primarily absorptive. These pressures, recorded from the three major regions of the rat intestine, were used to calculate a weighted average for the whole organ. The calculated value, based on assumed values for relative capillary densities, was 17 mm Hg. This result compares favorably with data from whole organ, isogravimetric studies, and may clarify some of the apparent discrepancies between previous isogravimetric and servopressure studies.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Haemogregarines are described from the peripheral blood and in some instances from internal organs of 4 species of frogs from East Africa. The parasites from Hyperolius puncticulatus and from Rana wittei have not been reported previously. The haemogregarine from R. mascareniensis is possibly a young stage of a form previously inadequately described. R. angolensis was parasitized by Haemogregarina theileri and also by an organism of uncertain affinity found mainly in the lung capillaries.  相似文献

The character of interrelations of nervous structures and the lymphatic capillary walls has been studied in cats. Under the light microscope twisted nervous fiber terminals of the intestinal neuron dendrites have been revealed around the lymphatic capillaries. Electron microscopical investigation has not revealed any specialized contacts of the nervous terminals and the lymphatic capillary walls. The receptors and terminals of axons do not situate nearer than 10 nm from the latter. According to the structure of synaptic vesicles among the axonal terminals next to the lymphatic capillary walls cholinergic, adrenergic and purinergic ones are described. The influence of the nervous system to the function of the small intestine lymphatic capillaries is mediated via the precapillary space. The neuromediators from the axonal terminals get into it owing to absence of neurolemmocytic membranes around them.  相似文献

In the present report we analyzed the presence and distribution of various basement membrane (BM) proteins in normal blood and lymph vessels with special emphasis on BM-associated heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) when compared to the BM-components collagen IV, laminin and fibronectin. We found that normal lymph capillaries have a BM that contains only collagen IV and small amounts of laminin, but almost no BM-associated HSPG and fibronectin, while blood capillaries showed a BM comprising of all components tested for. Larger lymphatics, however, were indistinguishable from blood vessels on the basis of BM staining. Lymphangiomas showed a BM pattern similar to that of lymph capillaries. Our findings provide evidence that the differential staining of BM-components may represent a reliable method for morphological distinction between blood and lymph capillaries. A comparison of these results with the BM-pattern in other functionally specialized blood vessels (glomerulus, sinusoids) provides evidence that the BM-composition may have some major impact on the functional properties. Thus, it is conceivable that the lack of HSPG in lymph capillaries may be essential for a free influx of fluid and proteins into these capillaries, which may have been extravasated into the interstitium.  相似文献

The authors have utilized capillaroscopy and forearm blood flow techniques to investigate the role of microvascular dysfunction in pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Capillaroscopy is a non-invasive, relatively inexpensive methodology for directly visualizing the microcirculation. Percent capillary recruitment is assessed by dividing the increase in capillary density induced by postocclusive reactive hyperemia (postocclusive reactive hyperemia capillary density minus baseline capillary density), by the maximal capillary density (observed during passive venous occlusion). Percent perfused capillaries represents the proportion of all capillaries present that are perfused (functionally active), and is calculated by dividing postocclusive reactive hyperemia capillary density by the maximal capillary density. Both percent capillary recruitment and percent perfused capillaries reflect the number of functional capillaries. The forearm blood flow (FBF) technique provides accepted non-invasive measures of endothelial function: The ratio FBFmax/FBFbase is computed as an estimate of vasodilation, by dividing the mean of the four FBFmax values by the mean of the four FBFbase values. Forearm vascular resistance at maximal vasodilation (FVRmax) is calculated as the mean arterial pressure (MAP) divided by FBFmax. Both the capillaroscopy and forearm techniques are readily acceptable to patients and can be learned quickly.The microvascular and endothelial function measures obtained using the methodologies described in this paper may have future utility in clinical patient cardiovascular risk-reduction strategies. As we have published reports demonstrating that microvascular and endothelial dysfunction are found in initial stages of hypertension including prehypertension, microvascular and endothelial function measures may eventually aid in early identification, risk-stratification and prevention of end-stage vascular pathology, with its potentially fatal consequences.  相似文献

Ultrastructural studies have been made on the three types of cells composing the tegmentum vasculosum in the cochlea of chick embryos as well as on the growth of capillaries within the tegmentum. Inside the tegmentum, specific intercellular cavities were found filled with a fibrillar network. Temporal correlation is discussed between the development of the auditory function of the cochlea and differentiation of the tegmentum. Possible functional role of different cell types and of the described cavities is also discussed.  相似文献

Chronic vasodilatation represents a stimulus for capillary growth associated with increased luminal shear stress. We have examined the ultrastructure of more than 2000 capillaries to establish whether the sequence of angiogenesis in response to this stimulus is similar to that described during development and under pathological circumstances. Administration of the α1-blocker prazosin to rats for 2 weeks led to a greater capillary length density in extensor hallucis proprius muscles without any change in capillary tortuosity: J v(c,f)=262±54 compared with 350±17 mm–2, control compared with prazosin (P<0.002). There were obvious signs of endothelial cell (EC) activation after prazosin treatment, including an increased proportion of capillaries with rough endoplasmic reticulum, large cytoplasmic vacuoles, thickened endothelium and an irregular luminal surface. Capillaries from control muscles had a maximum of three ECs in cross section, whereas four ECs were noted in 0.8+0.5% of capillaries after 1 week (n.s.) and 2.5±0.9% after 2 weeks (P<0.01) of treatment. This could be due to elongation and/or migration of ECs, as cell proliferation has not been described at these time points. There was also an increase in the proportion of capillaries having a narrow, slit-like lumen (1.7±0.8% of controls; 7.1±1.9% at 1 week; 8.8±2.5% at 2 weeks; P<0.02), some of which were smaller in size (less than 2 μm diameter) than in controls (3–5 μm) and/or “seamless”, i.e. lacking EC junctions. These may represent newly formed vessels. Focal discontinuity of the basement membrane and abluminal EC processes were rarely seen, and capillary growth by abluminal sprouting appeared to be very infrequent (less than 0.001% of profiles). Of more importance was growth starting from the luminal side. Significantly more thin cytoplasmic processes were observed protruding into the lumen of capillaries after 1 week (47.5±6.2%, P<0.001) and 2 weeks of prazosin (34.2±5.5%, P<0.05) than in control vessels (16.7±3.9%). Some of these traversed the entire lumen and connected with endothelium of the opposite side, probably involving membrane fusion, resulting in the appearance of a double lumen. Individual capillaries with a complete double lumen were observed after 2 weeks’ prazosin but comparatively rarely, in only four out of six muscles. These findings indicate a pattern of luminal growth which is completely different from intussusceptive growth previously described during development, and from the abluminal capillary sprouting seen under pathological circumstances.  相似文献
