Cryptic phylogeographic diversifications provide unique models to examine the role of phylogenetic divergence on the evolution of reproductive isolation, without extrinsic factors such as ecological and behavioural differentiation. Yet, to date very few comparative studies have been attempted within such radiations. Here, we characterize a new speciation continuum in a group of widespread Eurasian amphibians, the Pelobates spadefoot toads, by conducting multilocus (restriction site associated DNA sequencing and mitochondrial DNA) phylogenetic, phylogeographic and hybrid zone analyses. Within the P. syriacus complex, we discovered species‐level cryptic divergences (>5 million years ago [My]) between populations distributed in the Near‐East (hereafter P. syriacus sensu stricto [s.s.]) and southeastern Europe (hereafter P. balcanicus), each featuring deep intraspecific lineages. Altogether, we could scale hybridizability to divergence time along six different stages, spanning from sympatry without gene flow (P. fuscus and P. balcanicus, >10 My), parapatry with highly restricted hybridization (P. balcanicus and P. syriacus s.s., >5 My), narrow hybrid zones (~15 km) consistent with partial reproductive isolation (P. fuscus and P. vespertinus, ~3 My), to extensive admixture between Pleistocene and refugial lineages (≤2 My). This full spectrum empirically supports a gradual build up of reproductive barriers through time, reversible up until a threshold that we estimate at ~3 My. Hence, cryptic phylogeographic lineages may fade away or become reproductively isolated species simply depending on the time they persist in allopatry, and without definite ecomorphological divergence.  相似文献

Both solar irradiance and primary production have been proposed as independent controls on seawater dimethyl sulphide (DMS) and dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) concentrations. However, irradiance also drives photosynthesis, and thus influences a complex set of inter-related processes that modulate marine DMS. We investigate the potential inter-relationships between the rate of primary production (carbon assimilation), water-attenuated irradiance and DMS/DMSP dynamics by applying correlation analysis to a high resolution, concurrently sampled in situ data set from a range of latitudes covering multiple biogeochemical provinces from 3 of the 4 Longhurst biogeochemical domains. The combination of primary production (PP) and underwater irradiance (Iz) within a multivariate regression model is able to explain 55% of the variance in DMS concentrations from all depths within the euphotic zone and 66% of the variance in surface DMS concentrations. Contrary to some previous studies we find a variable representing biological processes is necessary to better account for the variance in DMS. We find that the inclusion of Iz accounts for variance in DMS that is independent from the variance explained by PP. This suggests an important role for solar irradiance (beyond the influence of irradiance upon primary production) in mediating the relationship between the productivity of the ecosystem, DMS/DMSP production and ambient seawater DMS concentrations.  相似文献

Recent evidence suggests that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) regulates food intake and the control of body weight. A common polymorphism in human BDNF, Val66Met (single-nucleotide polymorphism database (dbSNP) no. rs6265), impairs intracellular trafficking, resulting in the reduced secretion of BDNF. Several European studies have indicated that Val66Met is associated with BMI. In this study, we examined the association of the Val66Met polymorphism with BMI in Koreans (n = 20,270) from three independent epidemiological cohorts. All three studies observed a consistent association of this polymorphism with BMI, and their combined analysis demonstrated a robust correlation (β = -0.17 ± 0.03 and P = 5.6 × 10(-8)). We also examined the effect of smoking on the link between Val66Met and BMI. The association of Val66Met with BMI was statistically significant only in the smoking group, reflecting a possible interaction between smoking and the BDNF polymorphism for BMI. Thus, we have confirmed BDNF as a genetic risk factor for BMI in an Asian population and hypothesize that the Val66Met mutation influences individual differences in BMI. In addition, smoking might interact with BDNF Val66Met to modulate BMI.  相似文献

Typical features of particulate phosphorus in the Seine estuary (France)   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
During the 2001–2002 hydrological cycle, 8,000 tons P year−1 (44% as particulate phosphorus) originating from the Seine basin entered the Seine estuary. P content in suspended sediments (SS) is 2.9 g P kg−1 (80% as inorganic form) at Poses (the upstream limit of the Seine estuary). During the transfer from Poses to Caudebec (the limit of saline water intrusion), Particulate Inorganic Phosphorus (PIP) in SS decreases by 40% whereas Particulate Organic Phosphorus (POP) remains stable. This decrease is explained as the result of (i) a dilution by SS poorer in P, originating from storage zones (mudflats) within the estuary, and (ii) a loss of P by sedimentation, especially in the Rouen harbour where 15% to 20% of SS are yearly trapped and extracted. Downstream, in the turbidity maximum of the estuary, P content in SS is twice as low as at Poses (1.5 g P kg−1, 70% as inorganic form). PIP content is fairly homogeneous both vertically and throughout an annual survey. On the other hand, POP varies by season. Higher POP content is observed during vernal period with phytoplankton accumulation. In a salinity gradient from 0 to 30 (PSS78), PIP content further decreases by 30%. POP does not vary much in this gradient, leading to the assumption that PIP is submitted to desorption in response to the dilution by marine waters (poor in orthophosphates). Using 32P isotopic method, we establish a mathematical formulation of P exchangeable between the suspended solid and water phases of the Seine estuary. Particulate P in the turbidity maximum zone is shown to represent a possible source of dissolved P, available for algal growth in the Seine Bight. Instead of playing a role of nutrient retention, the turbidity maximum zone of the Seine estuary could favour coastal eutrophication.  相似文献

The renewed interest in the use of hybrid zones for studying speciation calls for the identification and study of hybrid zones across a wide range of organisms, especially in long-lived taxa for which it is often difficult to generate interpopulation variation through controlled crosses. Here, we report on the extent and direction of introgression between two members of the "model tree" genus Populus: Populus alba (white poplar) and Populus tremula (European aspen), across a large zone of sympatry located in the Danube valley. We genotyped 93 hybrid morphotypes and samples from four parental reference populations from within and outside the zone of sympatry for a genome-wide set of 20 nuclear microsatellites and eight plastid DNA restriction site polymorphisms. Our results indicate that introgression occurs preferentially from P. tremula to P. alba via P. tremula pollen. This unidirectional pattern is facilitated by high levels of pollen vs. seed dispersal in P. tremula (pollen/seed flow = 23.9) and by great ecological opportunity in the lowland floodplain forest in proximity to P. alba seed parents, which maintains gene flow in the direction of P. alba despite smaller effective population sizes (N(e)) in this species (P. alba N(e)c. 500-550; P. tremula N(e)c. 550-700). Our results indicate that hybrid zones will be valuable tools for studying the genetic architecture of the barrier to gene flow between these two ecologically divergent Populus species.  相似文献

Abstract. Geometric morphometrics is a novel approach to biological shape analysis, and its application to medical entomology is just beginning. Here, we use it to examine geographical and interspecific variation in the Triatoma infestans complex, vectors of Chagas disease in southern Latin America. Using six landmarks defining the membranous part of the hemelytra, we analysed the geographical patterns of variation in several populations of T . infestans , including the recently described 'dark morph' of T . infestans from hollow trees in the Bolivian Chaco. As a potential outgroup, T. melanosoma was added to the sample. A consistent geographical differentiation was observed, but no evidence was found in either sex to consider either the dark morph or T. melanosoma as a species distinct from T. infestans . Triatoma melanosoma is relegated to synonymy with T. infestans (syn.n.).  相似文献

Neodiprion Rohwer (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) is a Holarctic genus of conifer-feeding sawflies with a remarkable amount of inter- and intraspecific diversity in host use, behavior, and development. This variation is thought to play a central role in Neodiprion diversification, but speciation hypotheses remain untested due to a lack of a robust phylogenetic estimate. Here, we utilize sequence data from three nuclear genes (CAD, ANL43, EF1alpha) to obtain a phylogenetic estimate for the genus. These analyses suggest that: (1) North American and Eurasian Neodiprion are monophyletic sister clades, (2) the sertifer group is paraphyletic with respect to the monophyletic lecontei group, and (3) on at least two occasions, dispersal from eastern to western North America proceeded via southern host bridges. Based on these results and host biogeography, we revise a previous scenario for the evolution of Neodiprion and suggest maximum ages for the genus and for the lecontei group (25 My and 14 My, respectively). In addition, because a previous study reported rampant mitochondrial introgression in the lecontei group, we assess its prevalence in the sertifer group. Analysis of three mitochondrial genes (COI, tRNA-leucine, and COII) reveals that mito-nuclear discordance is prevalent in the sertifer group, and patterns of species monophyly are consistent with those expected under frequent mitochondrial introgression. As was the case for lecontei group species, we find that introgression appears to be most pronounced between species that occasionally share hosts, suggesting that divergent host use is an important barrier to gene flow in Neodiprion. Finally, we suggest that the lack of phylogenetic resolution and prevalence of species non-monophyly in the non-Pinus feeding Neodiprion may result from the rapid divergence (possibly with gene flow) of these species following their entry into a novel adaptive zone.  相似文献

In view of recent studies highlighting the prognostic relevance of expression and CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) of Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa-interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) in invasive duct cell carcinoma (IDC), we hypothesized in this article that impaired one-carbon metabolism might influence CIMP phenotype of BNIP3. In order to substantiate the prognostic relevance of BNIP3, we explored its association with 8-oxo-2'deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), a marker of oxidative stress with prognostic relevance. BNIP3 expression and CIMP phenotype were studied using semi-quantitative RT-PCR and combined bisulfite restriction analysis (COBRA), respectively, in 56 IDC tumors. Eight polymorphisms in one-carbon metabolism were studied using PCR-RFLP and PCR-AFLP approaches. 8-oxodG was measured using competitive ELISA kit. BNIP3 was found to be upregulated in IDC (cases vs. controls: 0.94 ± 0.05 vs. 0.18 ± 0.08, P < 0.0001). COBRA analysis confirmed hypomethylation of BNIP3 promoter CpG island in these cases. CIMP phenotype of BNIP3 showed positive association with tubule formation (P = 0.034) and methionine synthase reductase (MTRR) A66G (P = 0.002); inverse association with cytosolic serine hydroxyl methyltransferase (cSHMT) C1420T (P < 0.005) and 8-oxodG (<10% vs. >10% methylation: 7.24 ± 2.77 ng/ml vs. 4.42 ± 2.93 ng/ml, P < 0.0005); and no association with nuclear pleomorphism or mitotic index or ER, PR, and HER statuses. Synergistic effect of MTR A2756G and MTRR A66G variants on BNIP3 hypermethylator phenotype was clearly evident (P < 0.0007). MTRR A66G and cSHMT C1420T polymorphisms influence CIMP phenotype of BNIP3, thus epigenetically regulating BNIP3 in breast cancer. The linear association between BNIP3 and 8-oxodG substantiates the role of BNIP3 as redox sensor as well as prognostic marker in breast cancer.  相似文献

Two hybrid zones between subspecies of the Australian ringneck parrot (Psittacidae: Platycercus zonarius ) were examined for morphological (plumage patterns) and cultural (learned contact flight calls) traits. Mensural traits and plumage patterns also were quantified in a study in the 1960s. My samples were taken from populations in the allopatric distributions of the parental taxa P. z. zonarius (Port Lincoln parrot), P. z. semitorquatus (twenty-eight parrot), and P. z. barnardi (Mallee ringneck) and within the hybrid zones. The two hybrid zones differed in the distribution of plumage patterns: (a) in the zonarius – semitorquatus zone of intergradation all sample locations comprised birds of both subspecies' plumage patterns as well as numerous birds in hybrid plumage and (b) in the zonarius – barnardi zone of intergradation all birds were in hybrid plumage. The cultural trait also differed in the two hybrid zones: the acoustic features of P. z. zonarius flight call predominated in the birds in the hybrid zone with P. z. semitorquatus , regardless of plumage displayed by the individuals; whereas in the P. z. zonarius – P. z. barnardi zone of hybridization the acoustic features of the P. z. barnardi flight call notes evidently have swamped out those of P. z. zonarius . The results on the cultural trait reject 'coexistence' and 'blending' models of cultural interchange but support a 'cultural dominance' model. Hypotheses are discussed concerning historical and behavioral means by which the patterns arise.  相似文献

Cell extension in the growing zone of plant roots typically takes place with a maximum local growth rate of 50% length increase per hour. The biochemical mechanism of this dramatic growth process is still poorly understood. Here we test the hypothesis that the wall-loosening reaction controlling root elongation is effected by the production of reactive oxygen intermediates, initiated by a NAD(P)H oxidase-catalyzed formation of superoxide radicals (O(2)(.-)) at the plasma membrane and culminating in the generation of polysaccharide-cleaving hydroxyl radicals ((.)OH) by cell wall peroxidase. The following results were obtained using primary roots of maize (Zea mays) seedlings as experimental material. (1) Production of O(2)(.-), H(2)O(2), and (.)OH can be demonstrated in the growing zone using specific histochemical assays and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. (2) Auxin-induced inhibition of growth is accompanied by a reduction of O(2)(.-) production. (3) Experimental generation of (.)OH in the cell walls with the Fenton reaction causes wall loosening (cell wall creep), specifically in the growing zone. Alternatively, wall loosening can be induced by (.)OH produced by endogenous cell wall peroxidase in the presence of NADH and H(2)O(2). (4) Inhibition of endogenous (.)OH formation by O(2)(.-) or (.)OH scavengers, or inhibitors of NAD(P)H oxidase or peroxidase activity, suppress elongation growth. These results show that juvenile root cells transiently express the ability to generate (.)OH, and to respond to (.)OH by wall loosening, in passing through the growing zone. Moreover, inhibitor studies indicate that (.)OH formation is essential for normal root growth.  相似文献

We have shown that two CNBr fragments of horse apocytochrome c, [Homoser-lactone65](1-65) and (66-104), bind to the ferric heme fragment (1-25)H to form a non-productive three-fragment complex, and that when the heme of this complex has been kept reduced for 48 h at 25 degrees, the peptide bond between residues 65 and 66 is restored with a yield of 24% or more. We have also shown that another CNBr fragment [Homoser-lactone65](23-65), but not [Homoser-lactone65](39-65), similarly rejoins to fragment (66-104) in the presence of the ferrous heme fragment with 25% or more yield. For complex of ferro-heme fragment [Hse-lacton65](1-65)H and apofragment (66-104) of horse cytochrome c, which restores the peptide bond between residues 65 and 66 (located on the left side of the heme) (cf. Harbury, H.A. (1978) in Semisynthetic Peptides and Proteins (Offord, R.E. & DiBello, C., eds.), pp. 73-89, Academic Press, New York). Corradin & Harbury have suggested that axial ligation of methionine 80 to the heme (on the left side) is important. Consistent with their idea, fragment [Hse80](66-104) was found not to link to [Hse-lactone65](1-65) in the presence of ferro(1-25)H. Furthermore, the present studies indicate that the interaction involving residues 26 to 38 (on the right side) is also important for such a conformation which assists in the rejoining of the two apofragments. Combining these two ideas, we suggest that restoration of the peptide bond between residues 65 and 66 reflects the structural integrity of these complexes in the reduced form. Thus, the present reaction system can be used not only for chemical synthesis of [Homoser65] apocytochrome c but also to extend amino acid substitution studies of cytochrome c to residues 1 to 64.  相似文献

An investigation, using optical microscopy and SEM, of the trunk limbs of the Anomopoda has revealed a large number of characters, previously underused or unused in taxonomy and comparative morphology. All these characters, which are nicely paralleled by some more conventional traits (head shield and pores, postabdomen, antennae ...), show one clear tendency across all groups studied: a state of complexity at one extreme, and a state of often incisive simplification at the other extreme, with a number of transitional stages in between. The complex character state, which itself is a simplification of the leg structure of the Ctenopoda and other, large Branchiopoda, is here considered to represent a primitive condition. The simplified state is considered advanced. Based on this assumption, we list a number of unifying characters (mainly structural aspects of P1 and P2, but also the gnathobase of P3 and P4) for all macrothricid and chydorid-like anomopods, which we unite in the new suborder Radopoda. Non-radopod Anomopoda are not reclassified. We then derive a cascade of (mainly trunk-limb based) characters to work out a hypothesis on the evolution of the Radopoda. The chydorid line (basically the former family Chydoridae) is classified as a superfamily (the Eurycercoidea), with three families; the macrothricid line is capped by the superfamily Macrothricoidea, with four families. Of these seven families, four are upgraded from subfamily status, the Chydoridae are left status quo, the Macrothricidae are redefined, and the Neothricidae are a new family. The Macrothricidae are further subdivided in two subfamilies, of which the Macrothricinae appear reasonably homogeneous (monophyletic), while the non-Macrothricinae require further study. Some of these (e.g. Guernella) have almost completely lost their P5, a situation parallel to that of the P6 in the Eurycercidae, Acantholeberidae, and Ophryoxidae.  相似文献

Based on calcareous nannofossils and planktonic foraminifera1 biostratigraphic data from flysch sequences, we give evidence for the paleoenvironmental evolution of Gavrovo and Ionian foreland basins (External Hellenides, Etoloakarnania region). Our data suggest that the onset of clastic sedimentation in both foreland basins in the study area is chronostratigraphically placed at Late Eocene (from 36.2-34.4 Ma; nannofossil biozones NP19-20, planktonic foraminifera biozones P16-17). During the earliest Oligocene (NP21-22 nannofossil biozones/34.4-32.45 Ma), both basins represent restricted accumulation of sediments, mainly composed of clays and silts. The presence of thick flysch deposits, accumulated during Early Oligocene (33.4-30 Ma, nannofossil zone NP23), indicates an increasing rate of sediment supply. The flysch sequences in the Ionian basin are associated with a distal depositional environment, while in the same time the sedimentation in the external part of Gavrovo basin is related to a more proximal environment that is gradually deepening. On the contrary, the internal part of Gavrovo basin is characterised by deep-water facies, deposited in the Early Oligocene. At the end of Early Oligocene and the onset of Late Oligocene (nannofossil zone NP24/30-27.2 Ma, planktonic foraminifera zone P21), the deposition of coarse grained sediments in both basins indicates a shift to shallower depositional environment. The accumulation of fine-grained sediments during Late Oligocene (27.2-23.2 Ma, NP25 nannofossil biozone) in the Ionian basin marks the youngest flysch sediments in the Etoloakarnania region and specifies the time of the Gavrovo nappe emplacement on the Ionian zone. Moreover the emplacement of Pindos nappe on the Gavrovo zone is estimated between 30-27.2 Ma (NP24 biozone) as supported by the nannofossil analysis of samples in front of Pindos thrust.  相似文献

The dynamics of seston and dissolved elements in a meromictic lake with high concentrations of manganese and iron in the monimolimnion were studied through an annual cycle. This publication presents results for assimilation, sedimentation and recovery of nutrients (C, N, P, and Si) in the trophogenic zone. Phosphorus deficiency kept the productivity of the diatom dominated phytoplankton at an oligotrophic level. High concentrations of iron in influent streams and redistribution followed by precipitation of iron during periods of partial turnover removed phosphorus from the water. High concentrations of manganese and sulfate did not have the anticipated fertilizing effect, and recovery of nutrients from the depth of the lake was negligible. Mass balance calculations indicate that liberation of phosphorus from the sediments in the trophogenic zone was most important for the maintenance of primary production. 75% of carbon, 80% of nitrogen and 25% of phosphorus assimilated by the phytoplankton was mineralized in the trophogenic zone. Silica was effectively regenerated from the littoral zone during the decline of diatom blooms. Reproductive isolation between lineages is expected to accumulate with divergence time, but the time taken to speciate may strongly vary between different groups of organisms. In anuran amphibians, laboratory crosses can still produce viable hybrid offspring >20 My after separation, but the speed of speciation in closely related anuran lineages under natural conditions is poorly studied. Palearctic green toads (Bufo viridis subgroup) offer an excellent system to address this question, comprising several lineages that arose at different times and form secondary contact zones. Using mitochondrial and nuclear markers, we previously demonstrated that in Sicily, B. siculus and B. balearicus developed advanced reproductive isolation after Plio-Pleistocene divergence (2.6 My, 3.3–1.9), with limited historic mtDNA introgression, scarce nuclear admixture, but low, if any, current gene flow. Here, we study genetic interactions between younger lineages of early Pleistocene divergence (1.9 My, 2.5–1.3) in northeastern Italy (B. balearicus, B. viridis). We find significantly more, asymmetric nuclear and wider, differential mtDNA introgression. The population structure seems to be molded by geographic distance and barriers (rivers), much more than by intrinsic genomic incompatibilities. These differences of hybridization between zones may be partly explained by differences in the duration of previous isolation. Scattered research on other anurans suggests that wide hybrid zones with strong introgression may develop when secondary contacts occur <2 My after divergence, whereas narrower zones with restricted gene flow form when divergence exceeds 3 My. Our study strengthens support for this rule of thumb by comparing lineages with different divergence times within the same radiation.  相似文献

The effect of exogenous phosphocreatine on ischemic myocardium was studied in experimental infarction in rabbits and in total ischemia of pig heart tissue (in vitro). It is shown that single dose administration of phosphocreatine is followed by its rapid clearance from blood plasma (with a half lifetime of 4-6 min), but constantly high plasma concentration of phosphocreatine can be maintained by its intravenous infusion. When administered by this method into rabbits during experimental myocardial infarction, phosphocreatine reduces by 40% the size of the necrotic zone. Morphological electron microscopic studies using a lanthanum tracer method showed significant protection of the sarcolemma of cardiomyocytes in the perinecrotic zone by phosphocreatine. In vitro studies on the model of total ischemia also showed significant protection of cardiac sarcolemma from irreversible ischemic injury and reduction in the rate of high-energy phosphate depletion in the presence of phosphocreatine in the extracellular space. Additionally, it is demonstrated that creatine kinase released during myocardial infarction into the blood flow and exogenous phosphocreatine administered intravenously may significantly inhibit platelet aggregation by rapid removal of ADP, and thus potentially improve microcirculation during myocardial infarction.  相似文献

Divergence times and biogeographical analyses have been conducted within the Loliinae, one of the largest subtribes of temperate grasses. New sequence data from representatives of the almost unexplored New World, New Zealand, and Eastern Asian centres were added to those of the panMediterranean region and used to reconstruct the phylogeny of the group and to calculate the times of lineage-splitting using Bayesian approaches. The traditional separation between broad-leaved and fine-leaved Festuca species was still maintained, though several new broad-leaved lineages fell within the fine-leaved clade or were placed in an unsupported intermediate position. A strong biogeographical signal was detected for several Asian-American, American, Neozeylandic, and Macaronesian clades with different affinities to both the broad and the fine-leaved Festuca. Bayesian estimates of divergence and dispersal-vicariance analyses indicate that the broad-leaved and fine-leaved Loliinae likely originated in the Miocene (13My) in the panMediterranean-SW Asian region and then expanded towards C and E Asia from where they colonized the New World. Further expansions in America (10-3.8My) showed a predominant migratory route from North to South (N America<-->the Andes<-->Patagonia). This late Tertiary scenario of successive colonizations and secondary polyploid radiations in the southern hemisphere from the northern hemisphere was accompanied by occasional transcontinental long-distance dispersal events between South America and New Zealand. Multiple Pliocene dispersal events (3.6-2.5My) from the near SW European and NW African continents gave rise to the Macaronesian Loliinae flora, while a more recent Pleistocene origin (2-1My) is hypothesized for the high polyploid lineages that successfully colonized newly deglaciated areas in both hemispheres.  相似文献

Polymorphisms in genes involved in folate metabolism may modulate the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), but data from published studies are conflicting. The current meta-analysis was performed to address a more accurate estimation. A total of 41 (17,552 cases and 26,238 controls), 24(8,263 cases and 12,033 controls), 12(3,758 cases and 5,646 controls), and 13 (5,511 cases and 7,265 controls) studies were finally included for the association between methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and A1289C, methione synthase reductase (MTRR) A66G, methionine synthase (MTR) A2756G polymorphisms and the risk of CRC, respectively. The data showed that the MTHFR 677T allele was significantly associated with reduced risk of CRC (OR = 0.93, 95%CI 0.90-0.96), while the MTRR 66G allele was significantly associated with increased risk of CRC (OR = 1.11, 95%CI 1.01-1.18). Sub-group analysis by ethnicity revealed that MTHFR C677T polymorphism was significantly associated with reduced risk of CRC in Asians (OR = 0.80, 95%CI 0.72-0.89) and Caucasians (OR = 0.84, 95%CI 0.76-0.93) in recessive genetic model, while the MTRR 66GG genotype was found to significantly increase the risk of CRC in Caucasians (GG vs. AA: OR = 1.18, 95%CI 1.03-1.36). No significant association was found between MTHFR A1298C and MTR A2756G polymorphisms and the risk of CRC. Cumulative meta-analysis showed no particular time trend existed in the summary estimate. Probability of publication bias was low across all comparisons illustrated by the funnel plots and Egger's test. Collectively, this meta-analysis suggested that MTHFR 677T allele might provide protection against CRC in worldwide populations, while MTRR 66G allele might increase the risk of CRC in Caucasians. Since potential confounders could not be ruled out completely, further studies were needed to confirm these results.  相似文献

The vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms have been suggested to be involved in the development of diabetes mellitus, including type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, the results have been inconsistent. In this study, we performed a meta-analysis to investigate the associations. Literature was retrieved from PubMed, ISI Web of Science and Chinese databases. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95?% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random or fixed effect model. 79 studies (FokI: 22 studies; BsmI: 25 studies; ApaI: 17 studies; TaqI: 15 studies) on T1DM and 44 studies (FokI: 10 studies; BsmI: 10 studies; ApaI: 14 studies; TaqI: 10 studies) on T2DM were included.
