The objective of this study was to investigate genetic relationships of the SLA-2 gene, to characterize SLA-2 alleles, and to provide basic genetic information of Korean pigs. The swine leukocyte antigen - 2 (SLA-2) gene in the MHC classical region was cloned with spleen tissues from Korean native pigs selected from the main land (KNP) and Jeju Island (KJP). Primer sequences based on swine cDNA (GenBank accession numbers AF464049 and AF464005) were used to amplify the entire SLA-2 gene, and the amplification product including both 3′ and 5′ UTRs was sized 1,520 bp. A BAC clone was selected from miniature pigs and sequenced for the genomic region of the SLA-2 gene showing that 4,585 bp in total length consisted of exons (1,087 bp) and introns (3,498 bp). A sequence analysis confirmed 58 SNPs in coding regions, which revealed higher numbers of SNPs in KNP than other pig breeds, implicating more genetic variability in Korean pigs. Approximately 82% of the SLA-2 SNPs were located in the highly polymorphic exons 2 and 3. Newly identified sequences of the SLA-2 gene for KNP and KJP were submitted into the IPD-MHC database with new nomenclatures (SLA-2*1501, SLA-2*1601, and SLA-2*w08hy01 allele), while the representative sequences of KNP and KJP were submitted into GenBank with accession numbers (DQ992495, DQ992496, and DQ992501), respectively. The identified KNP allele (SLA-2*1501) clustered with previously defined alleles for Korean pigs (SLA-2*kn02 and SLA-2*jh01), but SLA-2*1601 (KNP) and SLA-2*w08hy01 (KJP) alleles showed no significant genetic relationships with any other allele. A sequence comparison revealed that KNP has departed from KJP both genetically and phenotypically. The results of SLA-2 SNP in KNP and KJP reported here will serve as the SLA-2 reference for Korean pigs.  相似文献

A resource family of pigs has been constructed by using a boar of Göttingen miniature pig and two sows of Meishan pig as parents. In the construction of the family, two F1 males and 18 F1 females were intercrossed to generate 143 F2 offspring. The members of the family were genotyped using 243 genetic markers including 26 markers developed in our laboratory in order to generate a linkage map of markers for use in detecting quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in the family. The markers consisted of 237 microsatellites, five PRE-1 markers, and one RFLP marker. The linkage map was revealed to cover all 18 autosomes and the X chromosome; and the total length of the sex-averaged linkage map was calculated to be 2561 ·9 c m . Four out of the 26 markers developed in our laboratory ex-ended the current linkage map at the termini of chromosomes 1p, 5p, 11p, and Xq. The linkage maps of all the chromosomes except for chromosome 1 were found to be longer in females than in males. Concerning chromosome 1, the length of the linkage map showed no difference between females and males, which was attributed to low recombination rates between markers localized in the centromeric region in females. The average ratio of female-to-male recombination was calculated to be 1 ·55.  相似文献

Liver X receptor α (LXRα) has emerged as an important regulator of lipid and energy metabolism. In this study, to better understand the effects of LXRα gene on growth traits in cattle, the mRNA tissue expression patterns and the polymorphisms of some exons of LXRα were revealed. The expression profile of the bovine LXRα gene was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in 11 different Jiaxian cattle tissues and was found mainly expressed in spleen, liver, fat tissue, kidney, muscle, and lung. Meanwhile, it showed that four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), named g.1028 T>C, g.1514 T>C, g.2929G>A, and g.3493 T>C, were detected and 12 different haplotypes were constructed. Haplotype with CCGT was dominant with frequency of 40.8 %. There was a strong link between g.1028 T>C and g.1514 T>C (r 2?=?0.374). Association analysis of SNPs with growth- and body-related traits was carried out in 445 Chinese native cattle. The results displayed that the heterozygous genotypes of g.1028 T>C and g.1514 T>C showed a molecular heterosis on four performance traits related to body size: height at withers, body length, hipbone width, and hip width (P?<?0.05). The multiple effects of four sites showed that the height at withers, body length, hipbone width, and hip width of individuals of TC-TC-GG-TT combined genotypes were significantly higher than other genotypes (P?<?0.05). The effects of the four loci genotype combination on conformation traits were consistent with the effects of g.1028 T>C and g.1514 T>C loci. The SNPs of g.1028 T>C and g.1514 T>C of the bovine LXRα gene could be potential genetic markers for growth traits in cattle. These results suggest that LXRα gene is expressed in many tissues and may provide primary molecular information for further studies on body size traits in Chinese indigenous cattle.  相似文献

Knowing the large difference in daily feed intake (DFI) between Large White (LW) and Piétrain (PI) growing pigs, a backcross (BC) population has been set up to map QTL that could be used in marker assisted selection strategies. LW × PI boars were mated with sows from two LW lines to produce 16 sire families. A total of 717 BC progeny were fed ad libitum from 30 to 108 kg BW using single-place electronic feeders. A genome scan was conducted using genotypes for the halothane gene and 118 microsatellite markers spread on the 18 porcine autosomes. Interval mapping analyses were carried out, assuming different QTL alleles between sire families to account for within breed variability using the QTLMap software. The effects of the halothane genotype and of the dam line on the QTL effect estimates were tested. One QTL for DFI (P < 0.05 at the chromosome-wide (CW) level) and one QTL for feed conversion ratio (P < 0.01 at the CW level) were mapped to chromosomes SSC6 - probably due to the halothane alleles - and SSC7, respectively. Three putative QTL for feed intake traits were detected (P < 0.06 at the CW level) on SSC2, SSC7 and SSC9. QTL on feeding traits had effects in the range of 0.20 phenotypic s.d. The relatively low number of QTL detected for these traits suggests a large QTL allele variability within breeds and/or low effects of individual loci. Significant QTL were detected for traits related to carcass composition on chromosomes SSC6, SSC15 and SSC17, and to meat quality on chromosome SSC6 (P < 0.01 at the genome-wide level). QTL effects for body composition on SSC13 and SSC17 differed according to the LW dam line, which confirmed that QTL alleles were segregating in the LW breed. An epistatic effect involving the halothane locus and a QTL for loin weight on SSC7 was identified, the estimated substitution effects for the QTL differing by 200 g between Nn and NN individuals. The interactions between QTL alleles and genetic background or particular genes suggest further work to validate QTL segregations in the populations where marker assisted selection for the QTL would be applied.  相似文献

Alterations in robustness- and health-related traits lead to physiological changes, such as changes in the serum clinical chemical parameters in individuals. Therefore, clinical–chemical traits can be used as biomarkers to examine the health status of chickens. The aim of the present study was to detect the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) influencing eight clinical–chemical traits (glucose, total protein, creatinine, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, and α-amylase) in an F1 nuclear families comprising 83 F0 founders and 585 F1 progeny of Korean native chickens. Genotypic data on 135 DNA markers representing 26 autosomes have been generated for this resource pedigree. The total length of the map was 2729.4 cM. We used a multipoint variance component linkage approach to identify QTLs for the traits. A significant QTL affecting serum α-amylase levels was identified on chicken chromosome (GGA) 7 [logarithm of odds (LOD) = 3.02, P value = 1.92 × 10?4]. Additionally, we detected several suggestive linkage signals for the levels of total cholesterol, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, and creatinine on GGA 4, 12, 13, and 15. In this study, serum α-amylase levels related significant QTL was mapped on GGA7 and cholesterol, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, and creatinine traits related suggestive QTLs were detected on GGA4, 12, 13 and 15, respectively. Further verification and fine mapping of these identified QTLs can provide valuable information for understanding the variations of clinical chemical trait in chickens.  相似文献

Pork quality is an economically important trait and one of the main selection criteria for breeding in the swine industry. In this genome-wide association study (GWAS), 455 pigs from a porcine Large White × Minzhu intercross population were genotyped using the Illumina PorcineSNP60K Beadchip, and phenotyped for intramuscular fat content (IMF), marbling, moisture, color L*, color a*, color b* and color score in the longissimus muscle (LM). Association tests between each trait and the SNPs were performed via the Genome Wide Rapid Association using the Mixed Model and Regression-Genomic Control (GRAMMAR-GC) approach. From the Ensembl porcine database, SNP annotation was implemented using Sus scrofa Build 9. A total of 45 SNPs showed significant association with one or multiple meat quality traits. Of the 45 SNPs, 36 were located on SSC12. These significantly associated SNPs aligned to or were in close approximation to previously reported quantitative trait loci (QTL) and some were located within introns of previously reported candidate genes. Two haplotype blocks ASGA0100525-ASGA0055225-ALGA0067099-MARC0004712-DIAS0000861, and ASGA0085522-H3GA0056170 were detected in the significant region. The first block contained the genes MYH1, MYH2 and MYH4. A SNP (ASGA0094812) within an intron of the USP43 gene was significantly associated with five meat quality traits. The present results effectively narrowed down the associated regions compared to previous QTL studies and revealed haplotypes and candidate genes on SSC12 for meat quality traits in pigs.  相似文献

We herein report the results of a whole genome scan performed in a Piétrain × Large White intercross counting 525 offspring to map QTL influencing economically important growth and carcass traits. We report experiment-wide significant lod scores (> 4.6 for meatiness and fat deposition on chromosome SSC2, and for average daily gain and carcass length on chromosome SSC7. Additional suggestive lod scores (> 3.3) for fat deposition are reported on chromosomes SSC1, SSC7 and SSC13. A significant dominance deviation was found for the QTL on SSC1, while the hypothesis of an additive QTL could not be rejected for the QTL on SSC7 and SSC13. No evidence for imprinted QTL could be found for QTL other than the one previously reported on SSC2.  相似文献

Puberty is a fundamental development process experienced by all reproductively competent adults, yet the specific factors regulating age at puberty remain elusive in pigs. In this study, we performed a genome scan to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting age at puberty in gilts using a White Duroc × Erhualian intercross. A total of 183 microsatellites covering 19 porcine chromosomes were genotyped in 454 F2 gilts and their parents and grandparents in the White Duroc × Erhualian intercross. A linear regression method was used to map QTL for age at puberty via QTLexpress. One 1% genome-wise significant QTL and one 0.1% genome-wise significant QTL were detected at 114 cM (centimorgan) on SSC1 and at 54 cM on SSC7, respectively. Moreover, two suggestive QTL were found on SSC8 and SSC17, respectively. This study confirmed the QTL for age at puberty previously identified on SSC1, 7 and 8, and reports for the first time a QTL for age at puberty in gilts on SSC17. Interestingly, the Chinese Erhualian alleles were not systematically favourable for younger age at puberty.  相似文献

A quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of female reproductive data from a three-generation experimental cross between Meishan (MS) and Large White (LW) pig breeds is presented. Six F1 boars and 23 F1 sows, progeny of six LW boars and six MS sows, produced 573 F2 females and 530 F2 males. Six traits, i.e. teat number (TN), age at puberty (AP), ovulation rate (OR), weight at mating (WTM), number of viable embryos (NVE) and embryo survival (ES) at 30 days of gestation were analysed. Animals were genotyped for a total of 137 markers covering the entire porcine genome. Analyses were carried out based on interval mapping methods, using a line-cross (LC) regression and a half-full sib (HFS) maximum likelihood test. Genome-wide (GW) highly significant (P < 0.001) QTL were detected for WTM on SSC 7 and for AP on SSC 13. They explained, respectively, 14.5% and 8.9% of the trait phenotypic variance. Other GW significant (P < 0.05) QTL were detected for TN on SSC 3, 7, 8, 16 and 17, for OR on SSC 4 and 5, and for ES on SSC 9. Two additional chromosome-wide significant (P < 0.05) QTL were detected for TN, three for WTM, four for AP, three for OR, three for NVE and two for ES. With the exception of the two above-mentioned loci, the QTL explained from 1.2% to 4.6% of trait phenotypic variance. QTL alleles were in most cases not fixed in the grand-parental populations and Meishan alleles were not systematically associated with higher reproductive performance.  相似文献

Freezing is a major environmental limitation to crop productivity for a number of species including legumes. We investigated the genetic determinism of freezing tolerance in the model legume Medicago truncatula Gaertn (M. truncatula). After having observed a large variation for freezing tolerance among 15 M. truncatula accessions, the progeny of a F6 recombinant inbred line population, derived from a cross between two accessions, was acclimated to low above-freezing temperatures and assessed for: (a) number of leaves (NOL), leaf area (LA), chlorophyll content index (CCI), shoot and root dry weights (SDW and RDW) at the end of the acclimation period and (b) visual freezing damage (FD) during the freezing treatment and 2 weeks after regrowth and foliar electrolyte leakage (EL) 2 weeks after regrowth. Consistent QTL positions with additive effects for FD were found on LG1, LG4 and LG6, the latter being the most explanatory (R 2 ≈ 40 %). QTL for NOL, QTL for EL, NOL and RDW, and QTL for EL and CCI colocalized with FD QTL on LG1, LG4 and LG6, respectively. Favorable alleles for these additive effects were brought by the same parent suggesting that this accession contributes to superior freezing tolerance by affecting plants’ capacity to maintain growth at low above-freezing temperatures. No epistatic effects were found between FD QTL, but for each of the studied traits, 3–6 epistatic effects were detected between loci not detected directly as QTL. These results open the way to the assessment of syntenic relationships between QTL for frost tolerance in M. truncatula and cultivated legume species.  相似文献

The lipid content and fatty acid (FA) profile in pig tissues are strongly influenced by genotype and nutrient supply, with implications in meat quality. The de novo lipid synthesis and pattern of FA unsaturation could be an important cause of variation in the overall efficiency of energy utilization among breeds. To test the effects of pig genotype and CP supply on the evolution of back-fat tissue FA profile throughout the growing and finishing stages, 32 Iberian (IB) and Landrace × Large White (LR × LW) barrows were offered one of two diets differing in CP content (13% or 17% as fed). A pair-fed procedure (0.8 × ad libitum intake of IB pigs) was used. Subcutaneous fat samples were taken at the dorso-lumbar region at ∼38, 50, 65, 90 and 115 kg BW. Higher proportions of total monounsaturated FA (MUFA; P < 0.01) and lower proportions of total saturated FA (SFA; P < 0.01 to 0.05) were found in the outer back-fat layer of pigs both at 50 and 115 kg BW. Pig genotype affected the FA composition of both subcutaneous back-fat layers. The proportions of C18:0 and SFA in fat tissue were higher in IB than in LR × LW pigs from 38 to 65 kg BW, especially in the outer layer. In addition, MUFA contents were higher in IB pigs at 115 kg BW in both layers (+5% on average; P < 0.01). Increased proportions of C18:2 n-6 and polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) were found in LR × LW pigs, irrespective of the stage of growth and back-fat layer (P⩽0.02). At 50 kg BW, pigs receiving the high-protein diet presented the highest C18:2 n-6, C18:3 n-3, C20:5 n-3 and PUFA contents. A significant genotype × CP content interaction was observed for C18:3 n-3 because of the increased concentration of this FA in LR × LW pigs when offered the 17% CP diet (P < 0.05). Higher C16:0 and SFA contents (+5%; P = 0.03) were found in pigs offered the 13% CP diet and slaughtered at 115 kg BW. There was a genotype × CP interaction for MUFA concentration because of the higher MUFA content observed in IB pigs offered the highest protein content diet (P = 0.03). Our results suggest that genetic variation in de novo lipid synthesis and pattern of FA unsaturation might contribute to explain differences in back-fat FA profile of IB and LR × LW pigs under identical nutritional management. They could be also relevant to explain the low efficiency of nutrient and energy utilization in the IB pig.  相似文献

The computational analysis of the model system consisting of the processes of CO2 assimilation and photorespiration shows the appearance of sustained oscillations in the system which might reflect their presence in photosynthesizing cells. Concentrations of CO2 and O2 oscillate in opposite phases causing Rubisco switching continuously between the carboxylase (CO2 assimilation) and the oxygenase (photorespiration) reactions. The results of modeling are consistent with carbon isotopic and other observed data. They show that the oscillation period varies from about 1 s to 3 s depending on the values of parameters taken. Too high concentrations of O2 suppress the oscillations.  相似文献

Background

Understanding the genetic mechanisms that underlie meat quality traits is essential to improve pork quality. To date, most quantitative trait loci (QTL) analyses have been performed on F2 crosses between outbred pig strains and have led to the identification of numerous QTL. However, because linkage disequilibrium is high in such crosses, QTL mapping precision is unsatisfactory and only a few QTL have been found to segregate within outbred strains, which limits their use to improve animal performance. To detect QTL in outbred pig populations of Chinese and Western origins, we performed genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for meat quality traits in Chinese purebred Erhualian pigs and a Western Duroc × (Landrace × Yorkshire) (DLY) commercial population.

Methods

Three hundred and thirty six Chinese Erhualian and 610 DLY pigs were genotyped using the Illumina PorcineSNP60K Beadchip and evaluated for 20 meat quality traits. After quality control, 35 985 and 56 216 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were available for the Chinese Erhualian and DLY datasets, respectively, and were used to perform two separate GWAS. We also performed a meta-analysis that combined P-values and effects of 29 516 SNPs that were common to Erhualian, DLY, F2 and Sutai pig populations.

Results

We detected 28 and nine suggestive SNPs that surpassed the significance level for meat quality in Erhualian and DLY pigs, respectively. Among these SNPs, ss131261254 on pig chromosome 4 (SSC4) was the most significant (P = 7.97E-09) and was associated with drip loss in Erhualian pigs. Our results suggested that at least two QTL on SSC12 and on SSC15 may have pleiotropic effects on several related traits. All the QTL that were detected by GWAS were population-specific, including 12 novel regions. However, the meta-analysis revealed seven novel QTL for meat characteristics, which suggests the existence of common underlying variants that may differ in frequency across populations. These QTL regions contain several relevant candidate genes.

Conclusions

These findings provide valuable insights into the molecular basis of convergent evolution of meat quality traits in Chinese and Western breeds that show divergent phenotypes. They may contribute to genetic improvement of purebreds for crossbred performance.

IFN-β promoter stimulator 1 (IPS-1) is an important adaptor protein linking RIG-I/MDA5 to the downstream signaling molecules and plays the pivotal role in type I interferons induction. In this study, we cloned and characterized Tibetan porcine IPS-1, investigated the tissue distribution, compared different messenger RNA expression for IPS-1 between Tibetan and Crossbred (Duroc × Yorkshire × Landrace) pigs (DLY). The Tibetan porcine IPS-1 gene was first cloned from spleen. The entire open reading frame (ORF) of the IPS-1 is 1,575 bp and encodes for 524 amino acid residues, has 1 putative transmembrane domains, with a higher degree of sequence similarity with common pig (99.37%) and cattle (81.23%) than with human (70.20%) or mouse (63.44%). Real-time quantitative PCR analysis indicated that Tibetan porcine IPS-1 mRNA was most abundant in the liver and kidney. The expression of IPS-1 of Tibetan pigs in most tissues was higher than DLY pigs.  相似文献

We constructed a framework map using SSR markers in the F2 population derived from a cross between a waxy corn inbred line and a sweet corn inbred line. We constructed a genetic linkage map of the F2:3 population employing 295 SSR markers on 158 F2 individuals produced from the cross. The map comprised a total genomic length of 2,626.5 cM in 10 linkage groups and an average distance between markers of 8.9 cM. The number of loci per linkage group ranged from 27 (chr. 5) to 34 (chr. 7). The genetic distance per linkage group ranged from 213.6 cM (chr. 10) to 360.6 cM (chr. 2). Χ 2 tests revealed that 254 markers (86.1 %) distributed over all 10 chromosomes exhibited a Mendelian segregation ratio of 1:2:1. A total of 14 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for days to silking (DTS), plant height (PH), ear height (EH), ear height ratio (ER), ear length (L-ear), and setted ear length (L-sear) were found in the 158 F2 progeny. They were mapped to chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 10. Among them, one QTL was associated with DTS, three with PH, six with EH, one with ER, two with L-ear, and one QTL was related to L-sear. In our study, we found that four QTLs: qDTS1, qEH1a, qEH1b, and qPH1, were clustered between umc2390 and umc1603 on chromosome 1. These new QTLs identified by the present study could serve as useful molecular markers in selecting for yield and agronomic traits in maize. The results of this study may improve the identification and characterization of genes responsible for yield and agronomic traits in waxy corn and sweet corn.  相似文献

We evaluate postmating barriers to hybridization between an exotic eucalypt and a group of native congeners on the island of Tasmania. We aimed to better understand the basis of reproductive isolation between the species, glean insights into the evolution of isolating mechanisms, and inform genetic risk management. Compatibility between the exotic plantation species Eucalyptus nitens (pollen parent) and 18 native Tasmanian taxa was assayed using experimental crossing for 17 taxa (13,458 flowers pollinated to produce 1058 female × male cross combinations), and previous data for one species. Compatibility was assessed in terms of F1 hybrid production, as well as F1 hybrid survival and growth after 5 years. This data was combined with measurements of style length, and genetic distance from E. nitens to each maternal species, in order to determine the importance of a sequence of prezygotic and postzygotic barriers. We found that the early-acting barrier of style length (prezygotic) had the strongest isolating effect, while later-acting (postzygotic) barriers, affecting early-age growth and survival, contributed little to reproductive isolation. Style length alone explained 46 % of the variation in hybridization rate. Conversely, there was no significant relationship between genetic distance and prezygotic or postzygotic compatibility in these closely related species. This pattern is consistent with selection driving the rapid evolution of prezygotic barriers, while drift-like-processes lead to the more gradual evolution of intrinsic barriers. Although other premating and postmating barriers clearly contribute, our results highlight the important role of early-acting postmating barriers in preventing gene flow from exotic E. nitens plantations.  相似文献

An F2 cross between Duroc and Large White pigs was carried out in order to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for 11 meat quality traits (L*, a* and b* Minolta coordinates and water-holding capacity (WHC) of two ham muscles, ultimate pH of two ham and one loin muscles), 13 production traits (birth weight, average daily gain during post-weaning and fattening periods, carcass fat depths at three locations, estimated lean meat content, carcass length and weights of five carcass cuts) and three stress hormone-level traits (cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline). Animals from the three generations of the experimental design (including 456 F2 pigs) were genotyped for 91 microsatellite markers covering all the autosomes. A total of 56 QTL were detected: 49 reached the chromosome-wide level (suggestive QTL with a maximal probability of 0.05) and seven were significant at the genome-wide level (with a probability varying from 6 × 10(-4) to 3 × 10(-3)). Twenty suggestive QTL were identified for ultimate pH, colour measurements and WHC on chromosome (SSC) 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 17. For production traits, 33 QTL were detected on all autosomes except SSC6, 8 and 9. Seven of these QTL, located on SSC2, 3, 10, 13, 16 and 17, exceeded the genome-wide significance threshold. Finally, three QTL were identified for levels of stress hormones: a QTL for cortisol level on SSC7 in the cortisol-binding globulin gene region, a QTL for adrenaline level on SSC10 and a QTL for noradrenaline level on SSC13. Among all the detected QTL, seven are described for the first time: a QTL for ultimate pH measurement on SSC5, two QTL affecting birth weight on SSC2 and 10, two QTL for growth rate on SSC15 (during fattening) and 17 (during post-weaning) and two QTL affecting the adrenaline and noradrenaline levels. For each QTL, only one to five of the six F1 sires were found to be heterozygous. It means that all QTL are segregating in at least one of the founder populations used in this study. These results suggest that both meat quality and production traits can be improved in purebred Duroc and Large White pigs through marker-assisted selection. It is of particular interest for meat quality traits, which are difficult to include in classical selection programmes.  相似文献

Growth and fatness are economically important traits in pigs. In this study, a genome scan was performed to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for 14 growth and fatness traits related to body weight, backfat thickness and fat weight in a large-scale White Duroc × Erhualian F(2) intercross. A total of 76 genome-wide significant QTL were mapped to 16 chromosomes. The most significant QTL was found on pig chromosome (SSC) 7 for fatness with unexpectedly small confidence intervals of ~2 cM, providing an excellent starting point to identify causal variants. Common QTL for both fatness and growth traits were found on SSC4, 5, 7 and 8, and shared QTL for fat deposition were detected on SSC1, 2 and X. Time-series analysis of QTL for body weight at six growth stages revealed the continuously significant effects of the QTL on SSC4 at the fattening period and the temporal-specific expression of the QTL on SSC7 at the foetus and fattening stages. For fatness traits, Chinese Erhualian alleles were associated with increased fat deposition except that at the major QTL on SSC7. For growth traits, most of White Duroc alleles enhanced growth rates except for those at three significant QTL on SSC6, 7 and 9. The results confirmed many previously reported QTL and also detected novel QTL, revealing the complexity of the genetic basis of growth and fatness in pigs.  相似文献

The studies of Rubisco characteristics observed during plant evolution show that the variation of the Rubisco specificity factor only improved by two times from cyanobacteria to modern C3 plants. However we note important variations of the ratio between the maximum rates of oxygenation and carboxylation (VO/VC). Modelling in vivo18O2 data in plant gas exchange shows that the oxygenation reaction of Rubisco plays a regulating role when the photochemical energy exceeds the carboxylation capacity. A protective index ‘oxygenation capacity’ is postulated, related to the ratio VO/VC of Rubisco, and hence to the sink energy effect of photorespiration. Analysing the trends of Rubisco parameters along the evolutionary scale, we show: (1) the increase of both VC and VO; (2) the enhancement of CO2 affinity; and (3) the rise in oxygenation capacity at the expense of the CO2 specificity. Hence, the factors of evolutionary pressure have not only directed the enzyme towards a more efficient utilisation of CO2, but mainly to positively use the unavoidable great loss of energy and assimilated carbon in the process of photorespiration. These observations reinforce the hypothesis of plant-atmosphere co-evolution and of the complex role of Rubisco, which seems to be selected to develop both better CO2 affinity and oxygenation capacity. The latter increases the capacity of sink of photorespiration, in particular, during water stress or under high irradiance, the two conditions experienced by plants in terrestrial environments. These observations help to explain some handicaps of C4 plants, and the supremacy of CAM and C3 perennial higher plants in arid environments.  相似文献
