Seeds of cocoa progenies were inoculated with cocoa swollen-shoot virus manually or by vector transfer techniques to assess the relative resistance of the progenies to infection. Assessment of progeny included in both inoculation tests and in field trials were positively correlated, indicating that the inoculation technique is suitable for the selection of progenies for testing in the field. Pure Upper Amazon progenies were more resistant than selfed Amelonado, with hybrids between Amelonado and Upper Amazons usually intermediate. Among the main Upper Amazon populations, Iquitos and Nanay clones were better sources of resistance than Parinari and Scavina clones. A survey of these populations indicated that, within populations, resistance levels do not vary greatly. A range of progenies based on the Upper Amazon female parents in existing seed gardens was screened for resistance and some were consistently more resistant than the equivalent Amazon x Amelonado hybrid now being distributed to farmers.  相似文献

Progenies from crosses between different Upper Amazon cocoa types and between Upper Amazon and Amelonado were compared for their field resistance to infection with cocoa swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) virulent strain A. Among the intra-Amazon progenies, those from crosses of Scavina, Iquitos and Nanay groups showed most resistance. Progenies from crosses within these groups may have sufficient resistance to be of immediate practical value in reducing crop losses in areas where CSSV is widespread. Some Nanay progenies were more resistant than others and this provides scope for improvement by breeding. Progeny of crosses between Upper Amazon and Amelonado parents were less resistant than those from intra-Amazon crosses. The present results confirm those previously obtained in gauze-house tests on young plants.  相似文献

Seedings of Amelonado Cocoa and of two progenies obtained by crossing Iquitos (Upper Amazon) parents were infected with three strains of cocoa swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) and with cocoa mottle-leaf virus (CMLV). CSSV strain I A had the most severe effects on the growth and canopy condition of all varieties. All four virus isolates had more effect on the growth of Amelonado than on the Iquitos progenies, except that CSSV strain I W affected the growth of Amelonado and one of the Iquitos progenies equally, as did CMLV which caused the greatest decrease in the first crop of all varieties. The relative virulence of different CSSV strains in any one variety can be assessed from single criteria such as length of latent period or effect on growth; CMLV had a shorter latent period than CSSV Strain I A but less effect on growth.  相似文献

The virulent strain A of cocoa swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) severely decreased the growth and yield of Amelonado cocoa (Theobroma cacao) trees kept free of capsids (Distantiella theobroma and Sahlbergella singularis) and the dieback fungus (Calonectria rigidiuscula) in Ghana. Fifteen per cent of graft-inoculated Amelonado trees showed symptoms within 4 months, and 48, 80 and 100% within 6, 12 and 20 months, respectively. Infected trees, whether shaded or unshaded, began to decline 6 months after infection, and deteriorated rapidly during the next 27 months by which time 16 % had died and most others were moribund; fertilizer applications had no significant effect on the rate at which infected trees deteriorated. Yields of pods and dry cocoa were greatly reduced 2 yr after infection and were very low after 3 yr; yields were significantly reduced by virus infection but there were no significant further effects of applying fertilizer. These results confirm that CSSV strain A alone is very damaging and often eventually lethal to Amelonado trees in Ghana, and indicate that the conflicting results obtained previously in Ghana and Nigeria were probably due to differences in the virulence of the CSSV strains tested. In contrast, the virus had much less effect on cocoa trees of the Amazon type; only 3% of graft-inoculated Amazon trees showed symptoms within 4 months, and 43, 84 and 97% after 1, 2 and 3 yr, respectively. Slight deterioration of tree canopies was first detected c. 15 months after infection and, although it continued slowly during the next 21 months, the decline was much less severe than that of Amelonado trees. Yields of both unshaded and shaded trees were apparently reduced by virus infection, but yield losses were much smaller than those of Amelonado trees. These results support the present objectives of controlling the spread of CSSV in Ghana by roguing infected trees, and selecting cultivars with greater tolerance to infection for future use.  相似文献

Hybrid breeding of rice via genomic selection   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Hybrid breeding is the main strategy for improving productivity in many crops, especially in rice and maize. Genomic hybrid breeding is a technology that uses whole‐genome markers to predict future hybrids. Predicted superior hybrids are then field evaluated and released as new hybrid cultivars after their superior performances are confirmed. This will increase the opportunity of selecting true superior hybrids with minimum costs. Here, we used genomic best linear unbiased prediction to perform hybrid performance prediction using an existing rice population of 1495 hybrids. Replicated 10‐fold cross‐validations showed that the prediction abilities on ten agronomic traits ranged from 0.35 to 0.92. Using the 1495 rice hybrids as a training sample, we predicted six agronomic traits of 100 hybrids derived from half diallel crosses involving 21 parents that are different from the parents of the hybrids in the training sample. The prediction abilities were relatively high, varying from 0.54 (yield) to 0.92 (grain length). We concluded that the current population of 1495 hybrids can be used to predict hybrids from seemingly unrelated parents. Eventually, we used this training population to predict all potential hybrids of cytoplasm male sterile lines from 3000 rice varieties from the 3K Rice Genome Project. Using a breeding index combining 10 traits, we identified the top and bottom 200 predicted hybrids. SNP genotypes of the training population and parameters estimated from this training population are available for general uses and further validation in genomic hybrid prediction of all potential hybrids generated from all varieties of rice.  相似文献

Summary Four different sets of partial diallels were analysed for their relative efficiencies for estimating the genetic parameters in barley: (1) partial diallel with 12 parents, each involved in only 5 crosses; (2) partial diallel with 12 parents, each involved in only 3 crosses; (3) partial diallel with 8 parents, each involved in only 5 crosses; and (4) partial diallel with 8 parents, each involved in only 3 crosses. In partial diallel experiments, the estimates of gca effects were higher than in those of full diallel. Ranking pattern of the parents on the basis of gca effects in partial diallels deviated considerably from the ranking in full diallel. With decreasing s per parent, the deviation in ranking was also more. This clearly suggests the unsuitability of partial diallel analysis for screening high general combiners. Selection of best cross combinations is also not possible because only a sample of crosses (s out of n) is analysed under partial diallel so that there is every possibility of the best cross being excluded from the sample. In general, overdominance was exhibited, indicating that there is ample scope for heterosis breeding in barley.  相似文献

Resistance of cocoa to swollen-shoot virus in Ghana. I. Field trials   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In Ghana, field resistance to cocoa swollen-shoot virus (CSSV) in young, bearing trees was assessed by monitoring natural spread by mealybug vectors from adjacent graft-inoculated line sources. Apparent rates of virus spread were estimated by regressing proportions of infected trees on time from inoculation. In some hybrids between parents derived from Upper Amazonian material, spread was only 25–40% that in currently recommended varieties. This resistance is the most effective, feasible measure to reduce economic losses and the resistant hybrids could be made available quickly for large scale use. The results from trials in which virus spread most rapidly were the easiest to interpret. Spread of CSSV is erratic, necessitating large experiments, and in trials with equal replication the largest plots gave the greatest precision. Neighbouring plot adjustment proved unsatisfactory as it improved precision but appeared to reduce accuracy.  相似文献

The resistance and tolerance to infection with cocoa swollen-shoot virus (virulent strain A) of forty-five and thirty-eight cocoa progenies respectively was estimated using a manual inoculation method. Resistance was estimated from the proportion of inoculated seedlings which developed symptoms, and tolerance from the severity of these symptoms during a 4-month period. Resistance was found among Nanay, Iquitos and Scavina, all Upper Amazon types; and an inter-Nanay cross was outstandingly resistant and offers scope for improvement by breeding. Some Amazon-Amazon and Trinitario-Amazon progenies snowed tolerance, especially those with Trinitario T9/21 as a parent. Some progenies seem sufficiently promising for field testing to select varieties suitable for planting in those areas in Ghana where swollen-shoot disease is epidemic.  相似文献

To determine whether genetic differences in fitness components exist among seeds and seedlings in a natural population, weighed propagules of six parents of Anthoxanthum odoratum from a reciprocal diallel cross were planted into the parental source population, a mown field. Seed families of maternal genotypes differed in germination success, while paternal families showed no detectable differences. Differential germination success could not be attributed to propagule weight. Seed families ranked differently in germination percentage in different blocks. No survivorship differences among parental seed families could be detected. There were significant cross × block × germination and cross × block × survivorship interactions; different crosses performed better or worse in different blocks. In some cases, crosses sired by different fathers within a maternal seed family differed in germination or survivorship, suggesting that natural selection may be capable of discriminating among juvenile genotypes within a maternal family despite the presence of large overall maternal effects. These results indicate that seedling establishment may differ according to genotype and that microsite heterogeneity may maintain genetic variation in juvenile traits in natural plant populations.  相似文献

We estimated the genetic distances among 10 spring wheat genotypes based on pedigree data, morphological traits and AFLP markers, used individually and combined with morphological traits, to find the best predictors of general- and specific-combining abilities among parental genotypes. Ten wheat parents were crossed in a diallel form, disregarding reciprocal hybrids, totaling 45 combinations. The F(1) hybrids, F(2) populations and parents were evaluated in the field in 2007. The experimental plots consisted of 20 plants for F(1) hybrids and 40 plants for parental and F(2) populations. All methods (pedigree data, AFLP markers and morphological traits, used individually and combined) were found to be useful for the assessment of genetic diversity. The significant coefficient correlations ranged from low (0.45) to moderate (0.67) between the distance measures and hybrid performance. There was significant agreement between the distance measures based on AFLP markers vs morphological traits + AFLP markers (r = 0.47) and between pedigree data vs morphological traits + AFLP markers (r = 0.43). The pedigree distance was positively associated with traits 100-kernel weight and grain yield per plant in F(1) (correlations of 0.67 and 0.62, respectively) and F(2) (correlations of 0.62 and 0.59, respectively) generations. These correlation values indicate that the genetic distance, based on pedigree data, could replace diallel crosses for the selection of parents with higher combining ability and with moderate reliability.  相似文献

Summary Four exotic and four indigenous strains of barley were used for making diallel crosses. The sets of parents and crosses making full, half and quarter diallel were analysed in a randomized block design for plant height, number of effective tillers, ear length, grain yield per plant, 100 grain weight and number of grains per ear.The three alternatives of diallel were similar with respect to the estimates of degree of dominance, general combining ability and specific combining ability, indicating that all these three methods of diallel were equally efficient. However, as the number of entries are minimum in quarter diallel, it would be economical in terms of cost, time and labour to estimate genetic parameters by this method. Average degree of dominance was found in the range of overdominance. The ranking of parents on the basis of their array mean was similar to the ranking based on gca effects. Similarly, the ranking of crosses on the basis of per se performance was similar to the ranking based on sca effects. This suggests that the selection of best general combiner or best cross combinations may be easier and more effective through array mean for per se performance rather than through high gca and sea effects, respectively. From among 56 crosses, IB-226 X X C-164 was the one which showed superiority for maximum number of characters followed by AB-12/59 X PTS-57. High sea effect for plant height, ear length, grain yield, 100 grain weight and number of grains per ear was the result of cross between parents having high X low general combining ability, indicating additive X dominance type of gene interaction. For number of effective tillers, high sca was produced by low x low general combiners, indicating dominance x dominance gene interaction.Part of a Ph. The F(1) and F(2) progenies of a ten-parent diallel cross (excluding reciprocals) of hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em. Thell) were analyzed for combining ability for quantitative and quality traits. The results indicated significant differences among the parents for general combining ability (gca) and crosses for specific combining ability (sca) for all the characters studied. The gca and sca components of variance were significant for all the traits. However, the gca component of variance was predominant indicating the predominance of additive gene effects for the traits studied. Among the parents Durgapura 65, HD 2285, Lok-1, Raj 1972 and HD 2329 were the best general combiners for grain yield and average to high combiners for tillers per plant, grain yield per spike, grains per spike and 1000-grain weight. The best specific crosses for grain yield were Sonalika x WH 157, HD 2428 x Durgapura 65, Durgapura 65 x Sonalika, HD 2428 x Lok-1 and CPAN 3004 x Raj 1972. The parent Raj 1972, Lok-1 and HD 2285 were the best general combiners for grain yield and protein content, however, Raj 3077 was the best general combiner for protein content. The most suitable specific crosses for protein content were HD 2329 x HD 2285, HD 2428 x Raj 1972 and CPAN 3004 x WH 157. Most of the specific crosses for grain yield as well as protein content involved high x average, average x average and average x poor general combiners. To ensure further increase in grain yield along with high protein, combinations of desirable yield components is advocated. Inclusion of F(1) hybrids showing high sca and having parents with good gca, into multiple crosses and/or bi-parental mating, or diallel selective mating could prove a worthwhile approach for further improvement of grain yield in bread wheat.  相似文献

本文提出了利用作物亲本和F_1预测杂种后代基因型值和杂种优势的统计分析方法.该方法运用加性-显性遗传模型,分析双列杂交试验资料,用MINQUE(1)法估算方差分量以及预测遗传效应值.由加性和显性效应预测值可进一步预测F_1,F_2,BC_1,BC_2,等不同世代的基因型值,在预测F_1群体平均优势和群体超亲优势的基础上,可以推导出其它各世代的杂种优势.提出了预测杂种后代保持超亲优势世代数的简单公式,根据杂交组合F_1群体平均优势和双亲相对遗传差异,便可预测该组合能在生产上直接利用的世代数.以棉花六个品种完全双列杂交试验资料为例,分析了各组合F_1和F_2的基因型值、超亲优势和保持5%超亲优势的世代数.  相似文献

Advanced button mushroom cultivars that are less sensitive to mechanical bruising are required by the mushroom industry, where automated harvesting still cannot be used for the fresh mushroom market. The genetic variation in bruising sensitivity (BS) of Agaricus bisporus was studied through an incomplete set of diallel crosses to get insight in the heritability of BS and the combining ability of the parental lines used and, in this way, to estimate their breeding value. To this end nineteen homokaryotic lines recovered from wild strains and cultivars were inter-crossed in a diallel scheme. Fifty-one successful hybrids were grown under controlled conditions, and the BS of these hybrids was assessed. BS was shown to be a trait with a very high heritability. The results also showed that brown hybrids were generally less sensitive to bruising than white hybrids. The diallel scheme allowed to estimate the general combining ability (GCA) for each homokaryotic parental line and to estimate the specific combining ability (SCA) of each hybrid. The line with the lowest GCA is seen as the most attractive donor for improving resistance to bruising. The line gave rise to hybrids sensitive to bruising having the highest GCA value. The highest negative SCA possibly indicates heterosis effects for resistance to bruising. This study provides a foundation for estimating breeding value of parental lines to further study the genetic factors underlying bruising sensitivity and other quality-related traits, and to select potential parental lines for further heterosis breeding. The approach of studying combining ability in a diallel scheme was used for the first time in button mushroom breeding.  相似文献

Gene action for adult-plant resistance to powdery mildew was studied using generation mean analyses of parents and of F1, F2, and backcross populations derived from a diallel cross of one susceptible and three adult-plant resistant wheat cultivars. Joint scaling tests showed that an additive-dominance model was sufficient to explain the variability in the expression of adult-plant resistance in one cross, while digenic epistasis was involved in the other five crosses. Additive gene effects were predominant; however, dominance was significant in four crosses, additive x additive interaction was significant in three crosses, additive x dominance interaction was significant in three crosses, and dominance x dominance interaction was significant in one cross. Therefore, selection for adult-plant resistance would likely be most effective in advanced generations derived from crosses among the adult-plant resistant cultivars Redcoat, Houser, and Massey.  相似文献

Parental selection is crucial for hybrid breeding, but the methods available for such a selection are not very effective. In this study, a 6×6 incomplete diallel cross was designed using 12 rapeseed germplasms, and a total of 36 hybrids together with their parental lines were planted in 4 environments. Four yield-related traits and seed oil content (OC) were evaluated. Genetic distance (GD) was estimated with 359 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) markers. Heterosis levels, general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were evaluated. GD was found to have a significant correlation with better-parent heterosis (BPH) of thousand seed weight (TSW), SCA of seeds per silique (SS), TSW, and seed yield per plant (SY), while SCA showed a statistically significant correlation with heterosis levels of all traits at 1% significance level. Statistically significant correlations were also observed between GCA of maternal or paternal parents and heterosis levels of different traits except for SS. Interestingly, maternal (TSW, SS, and OC) and paternal (siliques per plant (SP) and SY) inheritance of traits was detected using contribution ratio of maternal and paternal GCA variance as well as correlations between GCA and heterosis levels. Phenotype and heterosis levels of all the traits except TSW of hybrids were significantly correlated with the average performance of parents. The correlations between SS and SP, SP and OC, and SY and OC were statistically significant in hybrids but not in parents. Potential applications of parental selection in hybrid breeding were discussed.  相似文献

用细胞质雄性不育系陕 2 A、波里马 A(Pol A)、1 763A与 92 P187、垦 C1、垦 C8、L4 54个恢复系进行不完全双列杂交 ,以其 F1代为试验材料 ,在菌核病田间自然萌发和人工接种菌核病菌的条件下 ,调查了各组合的发病率和病情指数 ,估算了亲本及其组合抗 (耐 )菌核病的配合力效应。结果表明 :1 1 2个杂交种抗 (耐 )病性差异较大 ,以陕 2 A为母本的组合表现出较强的抗 (耐 )病性。 2油菜抗 (耐 )菌核病遗传是由基因的加性效应和非加性效应共同控制的 ;杂种抗 (耐 )病性的变异 ,遗传的作用是主要的 ,而在遗传作用中显性作用又是主要的。 3陕 2 A病情指数的遗传负效应值较高 ,具有作为抗源亲本的育种潜力。 4根据配合力总效应值评价组合 ,认为陕 2 A×垦 C8、陕 2 A×垦 C1、1 763A×垦 C8、陕 2 A× L4 5、Pol A×垦 C1、Pol A× 92P187是抗 (耐 )菌核病较强的杂交组合  相似文献

We determined the genetic basis of several traits related to overall fitness of Aquilegia caerulea, a perennial herb of the Rocky Mountains in western North America. To obtain measures of heritability relevant to the evolutionary potential of wild populations, we performed full and partial diallel crosses and studied progeny performance in the field. Based on a joint analysis of two designs with a total of 18 parents and 102 crosses, we detected significant maternal variance for seed mass and emergence time, but this component was negligible for later-expressed traits. Low heritability and evidence that maternal effects on seed mass are largely environmental suggest that in this population there is little evolutionary potential for change in seed mass under conditions experienced during the study. Seed mass varied depending on particular combinations of parents and cross direction. Such an interaction can have several different biological interpretations, including that particular maternal parents selectively provision embryos sired by particular pollen genotypes. Width of the first true leaf after 4 wk of growth and leaf size of juvenile plants at years one and two were significantly heritable and positively genetically correlated. Juvenile survival exhibited significant dominance variance, as expected from evidence of inbreeding depression in this trait. In contrast, for other traits that exhibit inbreeding depression in this population (seed mass and third-year leaf size), dominance variance was negligible.  相似文献

The inheritance of seed coat fuzz was studied in two half diallel sets of crosses of Upland cotton. One with F4 selections from an inter-varietal cross showed a significant level of non-additive variance attributable to dominance and non-allelic interaction. In the other, using inbred varieties of diverse origin, the genetic control of seed fuzz was adequately accounted for by an additive-dominance model with no interaction. Genotypic correlations between seed coat fuzz, yield and lint quality characters, calculated for both diallel sets and for two other groups of breeding material, showed good agreement within each experiment between parents and hybrids or between parents and progenies but no consistent pattern between experiments. The results serve to emphasize the risks in extrapolating correlations from one group of breeding material to another. A useful level of reduced fuzz has been obtained in selections from the AH breeding programme and the genetical investigations indicate that a further reduction may be possible, thereby leading to easier handling of seed, speedier and cheaper ginning, low levels of seed coat nep and better seed germination.  相似文献
