Wetland plants are important components that influence the biogeochemistry of wetland ecosystems. Therefore, remediation performance in wetlands can differ depending on the growth forms of plants. In this study, the effects of Eichhornia crassipes (floating plant) and Ceratophyllum demersum (submerged plant) on the wetland soil and water environments were investigated using a microcosm study with simulated hydrology of retention-type wetlands between rainfall events. The C. demersum microcosm (SP) showed the fastest recovery with a diel fluctuation pattern of dissolved oxygen, pH, and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) from the impacts of nutrient inflow. Moreover, SP exhibited the lowest decrease in sediment ORP, the highest dehydrogenase activity, and more organic forms of nitrogen and phosphorus. E. crassipes microcosms exhibited the lowest water temperature, and efficiently controlled algae. In the presence of plants, the total nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in water rapidly decreased, and the composition of organic and inorganic nutrient forms was altered along with a decrease in concentration. The results indicate that wetland plants help retain nutrients in the system, but the effects varied based on the wetland plant growth forms.  相似文献

In 1980, the seasonal changes in nitrogen and phosphorus concentration of various plant parts of Nymphoides peltata (Gmel.) O. Kuntze, together with aspects of nitrogen and phosphorus cycling by this species were studied in an oxbow lake of the river Waal (The Netherlands). The nitrogen and phosphorus stores of the water, seston, sediment and macrophyte compartments were assessed each month.The underground Nymphoides structures had high nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations before and after the main growing season, while during summer the aboveground plant parts had high nutrient contents. Nymphoides peltata accumulated maximum amounts of nitrogen (334 mmol m−2) and phosphorus (56.6 mmol m−2) in July. The upper layers of the bottom appeared to be an enormous nutrient reservoir (94–99% of total) of which the largest part was not directly available to Nymphoides. Nutrient uptake from the sediments by N. peltata is suggested by the fact that the bottom and/or interstitial water of the sample station devoid of rooted macrophytes, contained higher concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus than that of the Nymphoides stands. The annual flux of nutrients from Nymphoides to the detritus compartment was estimated to be ca. 1200 mmol nitrogen and 164 mmol phosphorus per m2 of littoral. During breakdown of the detritus there was a relatively fast net conversion of organically bound nitrogen and phosphorus to inorganic forms, especially at higher temperatures.Nymphoides has the potential to function as an important nitrogen and phosphorus pump, which regenerates sediment nutrients.  相似文献

为研究湿地沉水植物腐败分解对水体的污染状况,选择典型沉水植物金鱼藻(暖季植物)和菹草(冷季植物)进行了为期60 d的凋落物分解实验。结果表明金鱼藻和菹草凋落物分解规律相似,0—15 d快速分解,15—60 d缓慢分解,60 d凋落物失重率分别达到60.43%和66.72%。菹草的有机物释放量明显高于金鱼藻,N和P释放量相反,分解释放的N主要是NH4+-N和有机氮。三维荧光光谱(Excitation-Emission Matrix Spectroscopy, EEMs)结合平行因子分析法解析出一种类色氨酸物质C2和3种类腐殖质物质C1、C3、C4,易降解的类色氨酸有机物先增加后减少,难降解的类富里酸和类腐殖酸有机物逐渐增加。EEMs和四种组分的最大荧光强度百分比表明,溶解性有机物(Dissolved organic matter, DOM)在0—15 d以易降解有机物为主,15—60 d以难降解有机物为主。两种植物凋落物分解释放的DOM含量及特性不同,整体上呈低腐殖化特征,可能是水中难降解DOM的一个重要来源。植物凋落物的分解促进了沉积物中微生物的丰富度,降低了微生物的多样性;参与分解的主要微生物包括4 d时的Pseudomonas属(26%—35%)、15 d和30 d时的Malikia属(>8%)和Bacillus属(2.6%—9%),分解难降解有机物的微生物逐渐增加,如Flavobacterium属;沉积物中微生物群落结构的变化受营养物质可利用性变化的影响。分析发现植物凋落物分解对水质的影响具有阶段性,0—15 d,N和P释放量增加暂时导致了水质恶化;15—60 d,N和P释放量降低,难降解有机物含量逐渐增加,可能会加剧水体甚至是沉积物的腐殖化程度。因此,在植物衰亡期应及时打捞或者做好植物平衡收割管理,避免因植物大量腐败导致水质恶化。  相似文献

In the differentiated root nodules bacteria fix as bacteroids atmospheric nitrogen and deliver it to the host plant. The interaction between bacteria and host plant starts with a complex signal exchange. After induction by plant flavonoids, rhizobia synthesize and secrete lipo-chitooligosaccharides (LCOs), known as Nod factors, which induce morphological changes and expression of early nodulin genes in the roots of host plants. High macrophyte density in shallow lakes is often associated with clear water, especially when the non-rooted, submerged angiosperm Ceratophyllum demersum is dominant. Lack of true roots and high surface area:volume ratio suggest that nutrient uptake from the water column by C. demersum may be high. Therefore, possible competition for nutrients, including phosphorus (P), could contribute to phytoplankton inhibition. C. demersum ability to absorb and store P at four nutrient levels (unenriched + three enrichment treatments) was investigated in a 34-day laboratory experiment using agar-based nutrient diffusing substrates (NDSs). P uptake rates and abatement potential by C. demersum were assessed from total phosphorus concentration (TP) patterns in the water column. Changes in C. demersum biomass (wet weight) also were determined. C. demersum took up P quickly. Some P release occurred during the experiment, especially under high nutrient conditions. Initial net P uptake by C. demersum was high, but medium-term (five weeks) average uptake was relatively low. Projected long-term net P uptake approached zero. Plant biomass loss and production of macrodetritus (plant fragments >1 mm) were highest in unenriched aquaria. Biomass loss in the lower enriched treatments was equally divided between loss as macrodetritus and as dissolved organic matter (DOM), but loss as DOM was four times higher than loss as macrodetritus in the highest nutrient treatment. The results suggest that medium- and long-term low phytoplankton biomass in C. demersum-rich lakes is achieved via mechanisms other than direct competition for nutrients from the water column.  相似文献

Twelve taxa of theOxalis tuberosa alliance were analysed and found to share the same basic chromosome number x = 8. The karyotypes are composed by small metacentric and submetacentric chromosomes. Different ploidy levels were found among the taxa: there were 9 diploids, 1 tetraploid, 1 hexaploid and 1 octoploid. The last ploidy level corresponds toO. tuberosa, the only tuber bearing taxon found so far in the alliance. Cytotaxonomic evidence and evolutionary considerations suggest to classify theO. tuberosa alliance in sect.Herrerea.  相似文献

Rates of growth of seedlings of E. globulus, E. regnans and E. nitens were related to phosphorus supply in two soils but concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus in most plant tissues did not vary significantly among soil or phosphorus treatments. Differences in concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus and in the composition of the pool of free amino-acids among leaves at different stages of development were far greater than differences between treatments. The most significant of these differences were several-fold greater concentrations of arginine in the oldest leaves and these are most likely due to protein degradation and/or in situ synthesis since arginine is not generally phloem mobile. The concentration of reduced nitrogen in xylem sap was inversely related to growth and glutamine was by far the dominant nitrogenous solute. We suggest that specific nitrogenous solutes may be useful indices of the nitrogen status of eucalypt tissues for insect herbivores.  相似文献

We examined the uptake of five heavy metals (Cu, Fe, Ni, Zn, and Mn) in Ceratophyllum demersum L. (hornwort) and Potamogeton alpinus Balb. (pondweed) from Iset’ river, Ural region, Russia. This study was conducted in a territory that is highly urbanized where the surface waters are contaminated by a wide spectrum of pollutants. The environmental situation in this territory drastically deteriorated due to anthropogenic activity. The water quality in most of the water bodies in the Ural region is rather poor. In a comparative study ofC. demersum and P. alpinus, differential accumulation pattern was noted for heavy metals (HMs). Higher amounts of HMs accumulated in C. demersum compared to P. alpinus. Also it was shown that in leaves of C. demersum there were high amount of total phosphorus, nitrogen, organics acids and ash; high activity of guaiacol peroxidase; high content of non-enzymatic antioxidants viz., flavonoids, ascorbate, glutathione and proline; high amount of thiols (soluble and membrane bound) compared to P. alpinus.  相似文献

All living trees (30 cm gbh) were enumerated in 104 80×80 m plots arranged along four transects in the Douala-Edea Forest Reserve Cameroun, a system of low-lying ancient coastal sand dunes interspersed by numerous streams and swamps. The extent of permanent and seasonal swamps was recorded for each plot. Two hundred thirty taxa were recognized of which 63% were identified to species. Mean tree density was 376 ha–1, basal area 31.0 m2 ha–1 and number of species per plot 39. The Olacaceae were the most abundant family in terms of basal area, but the Euphorbiaceae the most frequently represented. The most abundant species wasCoula edulis (Olacaceae). Twenty-two plots had most of their area permanently or seasonally swamped. Percentage sand, silt and clay ranged between 32–100, 0–64, 0–21% respectively. The ranges for other variables recorded were: pH (2.7–5.4), organic carbon (1.5–12.4%), available phosphorus (7–90 ppm) and potassium (28–188 ppm), and nitrogen (ammonium 4–40 ppm, nitrate 1–12 ppm).Classification of the plots on the basis of six soil variables provided three large distinct groups: swamp plots and non-swamp plots, the latter divided into plots of low and high available soil phosphorus. Swamp plots were distinguished by high abundances ofProtomegabaria stapfiana andLibrevillea klainei, though correspondence ordination of plots in these groups showedP. stapfiana associated with more clayey soils andLibrevillea klainei (andGluema ivorensis) on the very sandy soils. Direct gradient analysis highlighted several species associated with these lower phosphorus soils. Available soil phosphorus is not as low at Douala-Edea as in parts of Korup, and the association of these Douala-Edea soils with the Caesalpinioideae is correspondingly weaker.Nomenclature follows Aubréville (1963–1983).The field work was supported by grant numbers RR00167-14, RR00167-15 and RR0167-16 from the National Institutes of Health for the operation of the Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center, and N.A.T.O. 以上海11个区县,共19条河道、65个点位进行1a的氮磷污染情况调查。结果表明:(1)上海河道为不完全感潮型河网水系。潮汐、降雨对氮磷污染物的分布影响具有时间差异性。(2)上海河道区县之间氮磷污染差异大(P0.05)。氮磷浓度从中心城区河道依次向外呈现"圆环状"稀释扩散趋势。黄浦江以南河道水质好于黄浦江以北河道;近江苏的河道总体氮磷浓度水平高于近浙江的河道(上海东南部)(P0.05)。水体中污染物浓度、扩散、降解与人为扰动和城镇化程度密切相关。(3)聚类分析(Cluster Analysis,CA)结果显示上海市河道污染水平在点位之间区别不大,而多维尺度分析(Multidimensional Scaling,MDS)显示上海市河道污染水平在点位之间具有一定差异,并与水质评价结果一致。(4)经生态修复后的河道水质优于修复前(P0.05),说明上海市人工水生态修复措施和生态型驳岸建设对改善河道水质有潜在价值。  相似文献

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes CocoT and Flamingo were inoculated with Rhizobium tropici CIAT899 and Glomus intraradices (Schenck & Smith) and grown under sufficient versus deficient phosphorus supply for comparing the effects of double inoculation on growth, nodulation, mycorrhization of the roots, phosphorus use efficiency and total nitrogen. Although the double inoculation induced a significant increase in all parameters whatever the phosphorus supply in comparison to control, significant differences were found among genotypes and treatments. Nevertheless, the highest phosphorus use efficiency and plant total nitrogen were found under P deficiency in combination with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. It is concluded that inoculation with rhizobia and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi could improve symbiotic nitrogen fixation even under phosphorus deficiency.  相似文献

The economy of carbon, nitrogen and water during growth of nodulated, nitrogen-fixing plants of white lupin (Lupinus albus L.) was studied by measuring C, N and H2O content of plant parts, concentrations of C and N in bleeding sap of xylem and phloem, transpirational losses of whole shoots and shoot parts, and daily exchanges of CO2 between shoot and root parts and the surrounding atmosphere. Relationships were studied between water use and dry matter accumulation of shoot and fruits, and between net photosynthesis rate and leaf area, transpiration rate and nitrogen fixation. Conversion efficiencies were computed for utilization of net photosynthate for nitrogen fixation and for production of dry matter and protein in seeds. Partitioning of the plant's intake of C, N and H2O was described in terms of growth, transpiration, and respiration of plant parts. An empirically-based model was developed to describe transport exchanges in xylem and phloem for a 10-day interval of growth. The model depicted quantitatively the mixtures of xylem and phloem streams which matched precisely the recorded amounts of C, N and H2O assimilated, absorbed or consumed by the various parts of the plant. The model provided information on phloem translocation of carbon and nitrogen to roots from shoots, the cycling of carbon and nitrogen through leaves, the relationship between transpiration and nitrogen partitioning to shoot organs through the xylem, the relative amount of the plant's water budget committed to phloem translocation, and the significance of xylem to phloem transfer of nitrogen in stems as a means of supplying nitrogen to apical regions of the shoot.  相似文献

三峡库区消落带植被修复过程中,物种的更替对库区土壤的地球化学循环产生潜在影响。以三峡库区忠县石宝寨汝溪河消落带植被修复示范基地165-170 m海拔段人工种植狗牙根、牛鞭草、落羽杉以及立柳根际与非根际土为试验对象,探究其根际与非根际土壤的养分含量及酶活性差异,以阐明不同物种的生长适应性及其根际养分利用策略,比较不同物种对库区土壤的营养改良作用。结果表明:(1)三峡库区消落带4种适生植物根系活动导致根际与非根际土壤养分因子以及土壤酶活性产生差异,不同物种的栽植均在一定程度上使库区土壤营养条件得以改善;(2)碳、氮两种元素在4种适生植物根际土壤中发生不同程度的富集,但磷素与钾素在不同物种根际与非根际土壤之间的变化不一致;(3)蔗糖酶、脲酶以及酸性磷酸酶在4种适生植物根际土中均表现出一定程度的根际正效应(R/S>1),且狗牙根对3种土壤酶的根际活化效果最为明显,其根际效应分别高达2.39、1.89和2.7;(4)在植物根系的调控下,根际土中有机质与氮素、磷素以及钾素的相关性更为显著,而非根际土壤中,仅钾素与有效氮、有效磷呈显著负相关,其余各土壤养分因子之间均无显著相关性;(5)与落羽杉和立柳两木本植物相比,狗牙根与牛鞭草两草本植物根际具有更为合理的养分调节模式,对库区土壤的改良效果更好。  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate both a mass in vitro propagation system and the β-ecdysone content in roots and aerial parts of Pfaffia glomerata and Pfaffia tuberosa. Nodal segments of two genotypes (BRA and JB-UFSM) of P. glomerata, originated from aseptically grown plants, were cultivated on hormone-free Murashige and Skoog medium. For the proliferation of P. tuberosa shoots, nodal segments, originated from aseptically grown plants, were either cultivated on hormone-free Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium or were supplemented with 1.0 μM thidiazuron (TDZ); the elongation and rooting of these plants were carried out on MS medium without TDZ. Plantlets of both species were acclimatized and transferred to field conditions. The β-ecdysone content in the plants was determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The BRA genotype showed a greater in vitro proliferation rate and β-ecdysone content than that of the JB-UFSM genotype. The culture of nodal segments of P. tuberosa on medium with 1.0 μM TDZ with subsequent subcultivation of shoots on hormone-free medium was shown to be a suitable method for micropropagation due to the high multiplication rate and good plant development. Both species showed good adaptation to ex vitro conditions. The β-ecdysone content in micropropagated P. tuberosa was similar to that found in field-grown plants. For both species, the aerial parts accumulated higher β-ecdysone content than roots. These results reveal that micropropagation is a successful, alternative method for rapid plant multiplication of both species of Brazilian ginseng. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that these two species have a potential for cultivation that is associated with high β-ecdysone production.  相似文献

Many aquatic plant species are distributed over large areas and diverse environments with populations interconnected by abiotic and biotic mediators. Here, we examined differences and similarities in the population genetic structure of six sympatric and widespread aquatic plant species. We sampled the aquatic species from six Chinese lakes found on plateaus, plains, and different river systems and analyzed them using inter‐simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Samples originating from each lake tended to cluster together. Of the six species, only Nymphoides peltata and Myriophyllum spicatum could be divided into plateau and plain groups, once Taihu Lake individuals were excluded. Genetic similarities between populations connected by the Yangtze River were not consistently higher than unconnected populations. Populations from Taihu Lake and/or Weishanhu Lake were distant from other lake populations for all species except Potamogeton lucens. The Taihu and Weishanhu populations clustered for Ceratophyllum demersum and Typha latifolia. Hydrophilous C. demersum had the lowest gene flow (Nm = 0.913), whereas the entomophilous Hydrocharis dubia (Nm = 2.084) and N. peltata (Nm = 2.204) had the highest gene flow. The genetic relationships among distant populations of aquatic plants reflect the comprehensive effects of environmental selection pressure and biotic and abiotic connectivity. Differences in environmental factors between plateau and plain lakes and long distance hydrochory have limited importance on aquatic plant genetic structures. Among multiple evolutionary forces, gene flow mediated by birds may play the most important role in the formation of genetic patterns in the six species examined. For example, the close genetic relationship between Taihu Lake and Weishanhu Lake populations, each in different river systems and with different climates, may be related to the migration routes of birds. Differences in gene flow among the six aquatic plants may be attributable to different bird‐transport and the fruit traits of each species.  相似文献

海水养殖尾水中总氮、总磷超标是引起沿海水体富营养化的主要原因,为研究碱蓬浮床对海水养殖尾水中氮磷的去除效果,该研究设计加入碱蓬(Suaeda salsa)浮床和不加浮床的两组对比实验,通过比较修复前后碱蓬株高、生物量、含水率、根长以及各部位氮、磷的含量变化,以及水体中总氮(TN)和总磷(TP)的去除效果,探究浮床中碱蓬对总氮和总磷的吸收及其生长特性,验证碱蓬浮床对海水养殖废水中氮、磷等的去除能力。结果表明:浮床中碱蓬株高、鲜重、干重、含水率、根长较修复前均有显著增加,说明浮床中盐生植物碱蓬能够适应含海水养殖尾水水培环境;经碱蓬浮床修复,水体中总氮、总磷均明显下降,其中碱蓬对海水养殖尾水中的总氮总磷去除贡献率分别为16.10%和78.15%,浮床中碱蓬会在叶片和根系中积累氮磷。  相似文献

Abstract 1. Anthropogenic increases in nitrogen deposition are impacting terrestrial ecosystems worldwide. While some of the direct ecosystem‐level effects of nitrogen deposition are understood, the effects of nitrogen deposition on plant–insect interactions and on herbivore population dynamics have received less attention. 2. Nitrogen deposition will potentially influence both plant resource availability and herbivore population growth. If increases in herbivore population growth outstrip increases in resource availability, then increases in the strength of density dependence expressed within the herbivore population would be predicted. Alternatively, if plant resources respond more vigorously to nitrogen deposition than do herbivore populations, a decline in the strength of density dependence would be expected. No change in the strength of density dependence acting upon the herbivore population would suggest equivalent responses by herbivores and plants. 3. A density manipulation experiment was performed to examine the effect of nitrogen deposition on the interaction between a host plant, Asclepias tuberosa, and its herbivore, Aphis nerii. Aphid maximum per capita growth rate (Rmax), carrying capacity (K), and the strength of density dependence were measured under three nitrogen deposition treatments. The effect of nitrogen deposition on the relationship among these three measures of insect population dynamics was explored. 4. Simulated nitrogen deposition increased aphid per capita population growth, plant foliar nitrogen concentrations, and plant biomass. Nitrogen deposition caused Rmax and K to increase proportionally, leading to no overall change in the strength of density dependence. In this system, potential changes in the negative feedback processes operating on herbivore populations following nitrogen deposition appear to be buffered by concomitant changes in resource availability.  相似文献

1. Recent experimental and field studies on temperate shallow lakes indicate that nitrogen may play a greater role in their functioning than previously thought. Several studies document that abundance and richness of submerged macrophytes, both central in shallow lake ecology, may decrease with increasing nitrogen loading, especially at high phosphorus levels. However, the role of nitrogen in warm lakes with fluctuating water regimes remains to be described in detail. 2. The effect of increasing nitrate and phosphate concentrations on submerged macrophyte growth was examined in a 3‐month mesocosm experiment conducted in summer in a shallow freshwater lake on the north western coast of Turkey with a Mediterranean climate. Twenty four field mesocosms, open to the sediment and atmosphere, were stocked with Myriophyllum spicatum shoots and small cyprinid fish. Three nitrate loadings in combination with two phosphate loadings were applied in a fourfold replicated design. 3. Mean ± SD nutrient concentrations maintained throughout the experiment were 0.55 ± 0.17, 2.2 ± 0.97, 9.2 ± 5.45 mg L?1 total nitrogen and 55 ± 19.2, 73 ± 22.9 μg L?1 total phosphorus. Mean periphyton biomass increased with increasing nutrient concentrations and peaked at the highest nitrogen and phosphorus loadings, while the mean phytoplankton biomass remained relatively low in all treatments. 4. Percent volume inhabited (% PVI) by macrophytes throughout the experiment and total macrophyte biomass at the end of the experiment did not differ among treatments. In addition to stocked M. spicatum, Ceratophyllum demersum and Potamogeton crispus appeared in the majority of the mesocosms. The plants grew continuously up to 50% PVI throughout the experiment and remained resilient to shading provided by periphyton and phytoplankton. 5. The mean summer air temperature in 2007 was 2.2 °C higher than the average of the last 32 years, which resulted in a water level decrease of 0.3 m in the mesocosms over three months. This might have counteracted the shading of submerged macrophytes provided by phytoplankton and periphyton. The results of the experiment are consistent with observations of higher macrophyte resilience to nutrient loading in Mediterranean lakes compared with northern temperate lakes.  相似文献

在漓江流域水陆交错带选取一叶萩、细叶水团花、枫杨3种典型灌木群落,对不同土层深度的根长密度,以及根长密度与土壤有机质、全氮、有效磷的相关关系进行了研究,旨在为漓江流域生态修复过程中灌木植被恢复、主要灌木植被配置、快速绿化材料选取等提供科学依据。结果表明:(1)漓江水陆交错带典型灌木群落各土层根长密度差异性显著,分布规律均为:枫杨细叶水团花一叶萩。0—10 cm到40—60 cm土层,各灌木群落根长密度均减小,但不同灌木群落根长密度的差异程度逐渐缩小,表明地形、地表植物类型及生长状况对根长密度分布的影响也随土层深度的增加而逐渐减小。(2)枫杨(25.10g/kg)灌木群落底层腐殖质层厚,有机质含量最高,分别是细叶水团花、一叶萩的1.24、1.87倍。各灌木群落全氮含量从大到小依次是枫杨、细叶水团花、一叶萩,其值分别为:3.23、2.41、1.46 g/kg。土壤有效磷分布规律为一叶萩(11.56 mg/kg)细叶水团花(5.37 mg/kg)枫杨(3.99 mg/kg);一叶萩灌木群落有效磷含量远远大于枫杨和细叶水团花,原因是漓江水长期受人为洗漱影响,导致受江水干扰大的一叶萩灌木群落有效磷含量高。(3)根长密度与有机质、全氮含量呈正相关,与有效磷含量呈负相关,说明适量增加土壤有机质、全氮含量,减少土壤有效磷,有利于土壤根系的生长。根长密度与0L≤1 mm径级的根系所占比例呈极显著正相关,与1L≤2 mm径级的根系所占比例呈显著正相关,表明根系细根越多,根长密度越大。  相似文献

We investigated the influence of nutrient availability, specifically nitrogen, phosphorus and silicon on growth and community structure of phytoplankton from the Port Adelaide River estuary, South Australia. Two bioassay experiments were conducted. The first, Nutrich1, involved addition of nutrients in vitro to samples of the natural phytoplankton community from a single location in the upper estuary. The second, Nutrich2, involved nutrient addition and incubation of water from five locations in the estuary following inoculation with a `standardised' phytoplankton assemblage derived from laboratory cultures. In Nutrich1, enrichment with silicon led to greatly enhanced phytoplankton biomass due to increased growth of diatoms. Addition of nitrogen or phosphorus had little effect on phytoplankton growth. In Nutrich2, addition of nitrogen resulted in enhanced growth of phytoplankton in water collected from near the mouth the estuary, but there were no differences in growth among nutrient treatments for the remaining locations. Comparison of phytoplankton growth rate among locations revealed a trend of decreasing growth in moving towards the mouth of the estuary. This trend was unaffected by enrichment with nitrate, phosphate or silicate. We suggest that spatial variation in growth potential within the Port Adelaide River estuary may relate to variation in the concentration of nitrogen as ammonium.  相似文献
