On 202 male rats of Wistar line, a study was carried out of the effect of chronic and acute deprivations of the brain CA-systems activity resulting from administration of 6-OHDA on investigating behaviour and learning. Chronic deprivation of CA-systems activity by neonatal administration of 6-OHDA (100 mg/kg subcutaneously) and their acute deprivation by intracerebral administration of 6-OHDA to adult rats (150 mkg in each lateral ventriculus) was accompanied by similar deep changes of behaviour. Both forms of deprivation reduced the investigating activity of the animals in the open field. In both cases, the above 6-OHDA dozes sharply impeded the learning of animals with emotionally negative reinforcement, with no significant influence on learning with emotionally positive reinforcement. Both forms of deprivation of CA-systems activity weakened the reaction of frustration elicited by a sharp reduction of food reinforcement.  相似文献

This article describes a new hands-on, or "kinesthetic," activity for use in a physiology lecture hall to help students comprehend an important concept in cardiopulmonary physiology known as oxygen carrying capacity. One impetus for designing this activity was to address the needs of students who have a preference for kinesthetic learning and to help increase their understanding and engagement during lecture. This activity uses simple inexpensive materials, provides an effective model for demonstrating related pathophysiology, and helps promote active learning. The activity protocol and its implementation are described here in detail. We also report data obtained from student surveys and assessment tools to determine the effectiveness of the activity on student conceptual learning and perceptions. A brief multiple-choice pretest showed that although students had already been introduced to the relevant concepts in lecture, they had not yet mastered these concepts before performing the activity. Two postactivity assessments showed that student performance was significantly improved on the posttest compared with the pretest and that information was largely retained at the end of the course. Survey data showed that one-half of the students stated kinesthetic learning as among their learning preferences, yet nearly all students enjoyed and were engaged in this hands-on kinesthetic activity regardless of their preferences. Most students would recommend it to their peers and expressed a desire for more kinesthetic learning opportunities in the lecture curriculum.  相似文献

In the mammalian olfactory system, oscillations related to odour representation have been described in field potential activities. Previous results showed that in olfactory bulb (OB) of awake rats engaged in an olfactory learning, odour presentation produced a decrease of oscillations in gamma frequency range (60-90 Hz) associated with a power increase in beta frequency range (15-40 Hz). This response pattern was strongly amplified in trained animals. The aim of this work was twofold: whether learning also induces similar changes in OB target structures and whether such OB response depends on its centrifugal inputs. Local field potentials (LFPs) were recorded through chronically implanted electrodes in the OB, piriform and enthorhinal cortices of freely moving rats performing an olfactory discrimination. Oscillatory activities characteristics (amplitude, frequency and time-course) were extracted in beta and gamma range by a wavelet analysis. First, we found that odour induced beta oscillatory activity was present not only in the OB, but also in the other olfactory structures. In each recording site, characteristics of the beta oscillatory responses were dependent of odour, structure and learning level. Unilateral section of the olfactory peduncle was made before training, and LFPs were symmetrically recorded in the two bulbs all along the acquisition of the learning task. Data showed that deprivation of centrifugal feedback led to an increase of spontaneous gamma activity. Moreover, under this condition olfactory learning was no longer associated with the typical large beta band. As a whole, learning modulation of the beta oscillatory response in olfactory structures may reflect activity of a distributed functional network involved in odour representation.  相似文献

目的探讨螺旋藻对衰老小鼠脑功能的作用。方法使用D-半乳糖建立小鼠衰老模型,用螺旋藻灌胃进行实验性治疗。持续6周后,检测小鼠的学习记忆能力及脑组织的超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活力和丙二醛(MDA)含量。结果与对照组相比,模型组小鼠的学习记忆能力下降(P〈0.05或P〈0.01),SOD活力下降、MDA含量升高;当补充螺旋藻后,实验组的学习记忆能力又不同程度的得到恢复(P〈0.05),SOD活力升高、MDA的含量下降。结论螺旋藻对衰老小鼠的脑功能具有保护作用。  相似文献

Cranial radiotherapy during the treatment of pediatric malignancies may cause adverse late effects. It is important to find methods to assess the functional effects of ionizing radiation in animal models and to evaluate the possible ameliorating effects of preventive or reparative treatment strategies. We investigated the long-term effects of a single 8-Gy radiation dose to the brains of 14-day-old mice. Activity and learning were evaluated in adulthood using open field and trace fear conditioning (TFC). These established methods were compared with the novel IntelliCage platform, which enables unbiased analysis of both activity and learning over time in a home cage environment. Neither activity nor learning was changed after irradiation, as judged by the open field and TFC analyses. The IntelliCage, however, revealed both altered activity and learning impairment after irradiation. Place learning and reversal learning were both impaired in the IntelliCage 3 months after irradiation. These results indicate that activity and learning should be assessed using multiple methods and that unbiased analysis over time in a home cage environment may offer advantages in the detection of subtle radiation-induced effects on the young brain.  相似文献

A comparative study of the effects of thyroid, adrenal, and gonadal deficit on capability for learning, retention of memory traces, and behavior was carried out in male rats under conditions of hormonal disbalance produced by extirpation of the endocrine glands. Behavior of animals was tested during the active and passive avoidance learning and in the open field. It was found out that the extirpation of the peripheral endocrine glands impairs learning and reproduction of the acquired reaction and alters the behavior. The results suggest that corticosteroid hormones take part in learning and behavior. Gonadal and thyroid hormones appear to exert a modulating influence on the higher nervous activity.  相似文献

Hippocampal function is important in the acquisition of negative patterning but not of simple discrimination. This study examined rat hippocampal theta activity during the acquisition stages (early, middle, and late) of the negative patterning task (A+, B+, AB-). The results showed that hippocampal theta activity began to decline transiently (for 500 ms after non-reinforced stimulus presentation) during the late stage of learning in the negative patterning task. In addition, this transient decline in hippocampal theta activity in the late stage was lower in the negative patterning task than in the simple discrimination task. This transient decline during the late stage of task acquisition may be related to a learning process distinctive of the negative patterning task but not the simple discrimination task. We propose that the transient decline of hippocampal theta activity reflects inhibitory learning and/or response inhibition after the presentation of a compound stimulus specific to the negative patterning task.  相似文献

Neuronal activity of both right and left hemispheres of the rat prefrontal brain cortex was recorded in the two-ring maze during animal learning to operate in response to signals. At the beginning of learning, pairwise comparison of neural activity that accompanied correct and incorrect choice of the right and left sides showed significant differences in the left hemisphere and the lack of differences in the right one. With increasing percentage of correct choices during a session of learning, the differences in neuronal responses appeared in the right hemispheres and were reduced in the left one. The opposite trends in rearrangement of the total impulse activity are believed to be related to different roles of hemispheres in the construction of the internal behavioral model.  相似文献

Two organophosphate compounds, coumaphos and diazinon, were examined for effects of sublethal exposure on odor learning and generalization in honey bees, Apis mellifera L. Using proboscis extension response training as a measure of odor learning and discrimination, a series of two experiments tested whether these compounds would inhibit bees from learning a new odor or discriminating between different odors. Bees were exposed to coumaphos or diazinon in acetone applied to the thorax, or to coumaphos or diazinon in hexane injected intracranially. At no dose tested or exposure method used was coumaphos shown to inhibit acquisition of a novel odor stimulus, although it was shown to slightly reduce discriminatory ability when given by intracranial injection. Diazinon had effects on odor learning at several small doses, and a small injected dose was shown to significantly inhibit learning of an odor stimulus paired with a sucrose reward. When bee head acetylcholineasterase activity was measured after dermal applications of both pesticides, only the higher doses of diazinon showed reduced activity, indicating that externally-applied coumaphos shows no significant effect on bee brain acetylcholinesterase activity. These data suggest that acute application of coumaphos has only slight nonlethal effects upon the behavior of honey bees and should have little effect upon bee tasks that involve odor learning.  相似文献

The effects of caffeine on salt chemotaxis learning were investigated using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. To estimate the degree of salt chemotaxis learning, nematodes were placed in a mixed solution of NaCl and caffeine, and then the chemotaxis index of NaCl was obtained from the nematodes placed on agar medium after pre-exposure to caffeine concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 0.3, and 1.0%. Locomotor activity and preference behavior for caffeine were also estimated under these caffeine conditions. Nematodes pre-exposed to 0.3% caffeine showed inhibition of salt chemotaxis learning. Additional experiments indicated that nematodes showed a preference response to the middle concentration of caffeine (0.1%), with preference behavior declining in the 0.3% caffeine condition. Stable locomotor activity was observed under 0.01–0.3% caffeine conditions. These results suggest that salt chemotaxis learning with 0.3% caffeine is useful for investigating the effects of caffeine on learning in nematodes.  相似文献

Focal and impulse activity of neurones, recorded in pairs with one microelectrode, was studied in the field 18 of cat visual cortex, during learning of visual differentiation of shaped stimuli--light strips with different orientation one towards the other. Differences were found between functional properties of neighbouring visual neurones before learning and in learning dynamics. In chronical experiments in dogs the pattern of shoulder muscle recruitment was examined during the forelimb flexion by which the animal lifted and held a cup of food during eating. At the early stage of the instrumental reaction learning the forelimb lifting was performed with the anticipatory deviation of the head in up direction, when the head bent down to the foodwell the lifted forelimb lowered. Simultaneous holding of the flexed forelimb and lowered head providing food reinforcement was achieved only by learning. It was found that the forelimb lifting in the innate coordination in untrained dogs was performed with activation of m. deltoideus and m. teres major, whereas m. teres minor was active whilst the dog was standing but the muscle activity was abolished before the limb lifting. In the course of learning m. teres minor activity was changed into opposite one. In the learned coordination the limb lifting was accompanied by the activation of all three shoulder flexors. The lesion of the motor cortex in the area of the "working" forelimb, but not in other areas led to disturbance of the learned coordination and the novel pattern of the shoulder muscle activity. The data obtained led to the following conclusion: the rearrangement of the innate coordination is connected with the formation of the novel way of the forelimb lifting which pattern of muscle recruitment is provided by the motor cortex.  相似文献

The course of reversal learning in go -- no go avoidance reflex differentiation in both cats and dogs was analysed in terms of interrelations between drive and instrumental reflex activity. When signalling properties of the conditioned stimuli were reversed, marked changes in the drive state of experimental animals occurred. The increase of the fear drive influenced both the transfer of the instrumental response to the new positive conditioned stimulus and the extinction of the response to the previously positive stimulus. The quality of the conditioned stimuli and their reflexogenic strength exerted clear effects on the fear drive and on the course of reversal learning. Prefrontal lesions affected the drive state and the conditioned reflex activity of the animals during the reversal learning.  相似文献

Participation of non-NMDA-receptors in associative learning in the honeybee was analyzed using a complex approach. There were studied effects of systemic and intracerebral AMPA injections on retention of the elaborated conditional reflex in short-term memory, on dynamics of the bioelectrical activity of neurons of calyx of the mushroom bodies, and on the limb locomotor activity. It has been shown that the systemic and intracerebral AMPA injections stimulate processes of short-term memory and activate bioelectrical activity of neurons of the mushroom body medial calyx. Antagonist of AMPA-receptors NS-257 HCl suppressed spontaneous activity of these neurons. The observed processes did not depend on the character of locomotor activity. These results confirm the hypothesis proposed earlier about involvement of non-NMDA-receptors in the process of associative learning.  相似文献

Two groups of students (with and without learning difficulties) were studied. In the experimental technique used in experiments, an increased load on the working memory by lengthening the interstimulus interval between the conditioning positive (Go) or inhibitory (NoGo) signals and the triggering stimulus was combined with EEG recording. In students with learning difficulties, the evoked synchronization/desynchronization of low-frequency α-oscillations (8–10 Hz) in individual intersimulation intervals was significantly weakened. The hypothesis of the disturbed coordinating mechanism of selective implicit attention with the involvement of the prefrontal cortex in the organization of cognitive activity in students with learning difficulties is discussed and substantiated.  相似文献

The effect of vasopressin on learning, habituation and habit recovery in rat before and after electrolytic ablation of locus coeruleus, nuclei dorsalis et medialis raphe and pars compacta substantiae nigrae was studied by behavioural methods. The rats were learned with positive reinforcement in a T-shaped maze and with negative reinforcement in a U-shaped maze. It was found that improvement of trace consolidation and acceleration of learning were in many cases dependent on the activity level of the dophaminergic, noradrenergic and to a lesser degree on that of serotoninergic brain systems.  相似文献

The role of the motor cortex was investigated during learning unusual postural adjustment. Healthy subjects held their right (postural) forearm in a horizontal position while supporting a 1-kG load via an electromagnet. The postural forearm position was perturbed by the load release triggered by other elbow voluntary movement. Repetition of the imposed unloading test resulted in a progressive reduction of the maximal forearm rotation, accompanied by the anticipatory decrease in m. biceps brachii activity (learning). Control situation consisted of the voluntary forearm loading. Using the transcranial magnetic stimulation we examined changes in the motor evoked potential of the m. biceps brahii at the beginning and at the end of learning. The evoked potential amplitude did not significantly change in process of the decrease of m. biceps brachii activity. At the end of learning, motor evoked potential / baseline electromyogram ratio increased as compared to the beginning of learning and to the control situation. The results highlight the fundamental role of the motor cortex in suppression of synergies which interfere with formation of a new coordination during motor learning.  相似文献

Open-field behaviour and emotionally differently reinforced learning were studied in male Wistar rats with bilaterally ablated Locus coeruleus. Histochemical analysis of the hypothalamic structures was carried out. Decrease of investigating activity and attention was found as well as disturbances of learning with emotionally-negative (painful) reinforcement. By means of histochemical methods, fluorescence characteristic for catecholamines was found to decrease sharply in paraventricular and supraoptic hypothalamic nuclei, eminentia medialis and the posterior lobe of the hypophysis.  相似文献

Gustatory stimuli to the antennae, especially sucrose, are important for bees and are employed in learning paradigms as unconditioned stimulus. The present study identified primary antennal gustatory projections in the bee brain and determined the impact of stimulation of the antennal tip on antennal muscle activity and its plasticity. Central projections of antennal taste hairs contained axons of two morphologies projecting into the dorsal lobe, which is also the antennal motor centre. Putative mechanosensory axons arborised in a dorso-lateral area. Putative gustatory axons projected to a ventro-medial area. Bees scan gustatory and mechanical stimuli with their antennae using variable strategies but sensory input to the motor system has not been investigated in detail. Mechanical, gustatory, and electrical stimulation of the ipsilateral antennal tip were found to evoke short-latency responses in an antennal muscle, the fast flagellum flexor. Contralateral gustatory stimulation induced smaller responses with longer latency. The activity of the fast flagellum flexor was conditioned operantly by pairing high muscle activity with ipsilateral antennal sucrose stimulation. A proboscis reward was unnecessary for learning. With contralateral antennal sucrose stimulation, conditioning was unsuccessful. Thus, muscle activity induced by gustatory stimulation was important for learning success and conditioning was side-specific.  相似文献

Significant differences between strains were found for open field activity and emotionality, exploratory activity, initial reaction to shock, conditioned avoidance learning, and weight for three inbred strains (Balb/c, C57Bl and C3H), such that the heaviest strain (Balb/c) was the least active and most emotional in the open field, gave the lowest score for exploratory activity and longest reaction to shock times, and was the poorest at conditioned avoidance learning.The hybrids from crosses with C57Bl tended more towards complete dominance and overdominance than did the Balb/c × C3H hybrid, probably because the Balb/c and C3H strains have some common ancestry.Heterosis was most marked for traits involving exploration or learning. Variability of the hybrids for these traits was often lower than the parents, i.e. they showed behavioural homeostasis. For other traits variability of the hybrids tended towards the parent whose genotype was dominant for the trait.Of the non-genetic factors studied, age and litter size were found to have the greatest effect on the behavioural traits. Parity was found only to affect weight. Sex differences were found for weight and emotionality.  相似文献
