Summary The vascular anatomy of the lateral musculature of the flatheadPlatycephalus bassensis, was studied by scanning electron microscopy of corrosion casts. Arteries and veins showed an alternating pattern in neighbouring vertebral segments. The red muscle was supplied by five major branches of the intermuscular artery, and the white muscle by infrequent branches of the intermuscular artery, dorsal segmental artery and ventral segmental artery. Venous drainage of the red and white muscles broadly mimicked the arterial supply. The functional unit of the trunk vasculature can be considered as an artery, a vein and connecting fine blood vessels. There appear to be 2 over-lapping types leading to alternating clockwise and counter-clockwise flows of blood. Small satellite vessels were observed running parallel to most of the larger blood vessels. No anatomical A-V shunt vessels, or series vascular connections between the red and white muscle, were observed. The irregular, alternating adult system is postulated to have developed from an earlier system showing strict bilateral symmetry and equal arterial and venous development in each vertebral segment.  相似文献

A corrosion cast of the entire blood vascular system was made by a single injection of resin from the heart of carp and a Japanese catfish. Either semipolymerized methyl methacrylate or Mercox CL with 30–50% methyl methacrylate monomer was used as the resin preparation. The latter was better for photographing. Both were polymerized by addition of 1 % benzoyl peroxide. The segmental blood vessels of carp and a catfish showed an alternating arrangement of artery and vein in successive segments with some irregularity.  相似文献

The vascular organisation of the branchial basket was examined in two Tetraodontiform fishes; the three-barred porcupinefish, Dicotylichthys punctulatus and the banded toadfish, Marylina pleurosticta by scanning electron microscopy of vascular casts and standard histological approaches. In D. punctulatus, interarterial anastomoses (iaas) originated at high densities from the efferent filamental and branchial arteries, subsequently re-anastomosing to form progressively larger secondary vessels. Small branches of this system entered the filament body, where it was interspersed between the intrafilamental vessels. Large-bore secondary vessels ran parallel with the efferent branchial arteries, and were found to constitute an additional arterio–arterial pathway, in that these vessels exited the branchial basket in company with the mandibular, the carotid and the afferent and efferent branchial arteries, from where they gave rise to capillary beds after exit. Secondary vessels were not found to supply filament muscle; rather these tissues were supplied by single specialised vessels running in parallel between the efferent and afferent branchial arteries in both species examined. Although the branchial vascular anatomy was generally fairly similar for the two species examined, iaas were not found to originate from any branchial component in the banded toadfish, M. pleurosticta, which instead showed a moderate frequency of iaas on other vessels in the cephalic region. It is proposed that four independent vascular pathways may be present within the teleostean gill filament, the conventional arterio–arterial pathway across the respiratory lamellae; an arterio–arterial system of secondary vessels supplying the filament and non-branchial tissues; a system of vessels supplying the filament musculature; and the intrafilamental vessels (central venous sinus). The present study demonstrates that phylogenetic differences in the arrangement of the branchial vascular system occur between species of the same taxon.  相似文献

Summary Blood vessels of the opossum brain are paired, artery and vein, and end in a closed loop. Both anatomically and physiologically they are true end-arteries. The two limbs are enclosed within a single basement membrane and are separated from each other by an intercapillary cell thought to be analogous to the usual capillary pericytes. Summary The pattern of the vascular supply to the choroid of the frog eye was studied in toto with the use of the injection-replication-SEM technique. The choroid of anuran amphibians is composed mainly of the choriocapillaris. In both species studied (Rana temporaria, Rana esculenta), an independent arterial supply to the choriocapillaris supplemented that from the ciliary arteries. This additional vascular route arises from the optic artery, a separate branch of the arteria infundibularis superficialis. The optic artery, accompanied by its vein within the vascular sheath of the optic nerve, joins the rich arterial capillary network of the choriocapillaris and supplies the posterior pole of the ocular bulb. The superficial capillary network displays a dense collar around the entrance of the optic nerve into the eye and is composed of a circular meshwork of small capillaries, several layers deep. More peripherally, however, it becomes single layered. This capillary network, as a whole, establishes numerous connections with the adjacent choriocapillaris at the posterior pole of the ocular bulb. In anuran amphibians the complex arrangement of both arterial systems supporting the choriocapillaris may be regarded as a more complete equivalent of the short posterior ciliary arteries of mammals.  相似文献

In the lateral musculature of the axolotl tail a multipennate arrangement of muscle fibres is found in the 3rd postanal myomere and all following myomeres. This arrangement appears in larval stages as soon as the myomeres concerned are fully differentiated. Within a myomere a uniform degree of contraction of the muscle fibres may be achieved either by helical arrangement as seen in Teleosts, by diminishing fibre length in medial direction or by a combination of both phenomena. The relation between muscle fibre length and angle of insertion in the myomeres showing pennate arrangement is approximated by the Benninghoff and Roll-h?user equation but the values recorded deviated systematically from the values calculated. In the rather slender tail of the axolotl the transition from the helical or parallel fibre system into the pennate arrangement will be in favour of the development of relatively strong bending moments in the region concerned while a reasonable uniformity of the rate of contraction is maintained.  相似文献

The older literature suggests that the development of the blood vascular system in teleosts differs from that of other vertebrates. The evidence, however, came mostly from studies of salmonid embryos beyond the stages when blood cells had begun to circulate, which overlooked earlier developmental stages. The development of the blood vessels of the rainbow trout are illustrated from the time of the first heartbeat to the stage of eye pigment formation. Unless they can be injected with a dye solution, the earliest vessels to develop remain invisible until blood flow makes them visible. By the time of the first heartbeat stage, the embryo has a dorsal aorta, caudal artery and vein, a few transverse vessels, and even the beginning of a vitelline network. One feature peculiar to teleosts is the development of the intermediate cell mass, from which the erythrocytes and a temporary capillary network are formed rather than from the yolk sac. Development of the early posterior cardinal and the subintestinal vein occurs much as in other vertebrates. Previous investigators missed these earliest phases of development because of the difficulty of making them visible. Early formation and transformation of the vascular system of the rainbow trout generally conforms to that seen in vertebrates, except as modified by the temporary presence of the intermediate cell mass and the specialized teleostean yolk mass. With the reduction of the intermediate cell mass, the primary circulatory system for yolk utilization is transformed into a secondary one for respiratory and metabolic functions, as happens usually among vertebrates. The branchial vascular anatomy of Urolophus mucosus and U. paucimaculatus was studied by scanning electron microscopical examination of critical-point-dried tissue or of vascular corrosion casts. The vasculature could be divided into arterioarterial and arteriovenous pathways, which channel the flow of blood through the gills. The arterioarterial pathway consists of an afferent branchial artery which gives rise to afferent distributing arteries that run through the tissues of the interbranchial septum and supply the afferent filament arteries of several filaments. Afferent filament arteries open regularly into a corpus cavernosum in the core of the filament; unlike other elasmobranchs no septal corpora cavernosa are found. At the tip of the filament, channels of the corpus cavernosum connect to a channel which passes across the distal end of the filament from afferent to efferent side. This channel always connects to the afferent filament artery, and in many filaments it connects to the efferent filament artery as well. In addition, a vascular arcade connects all the afferent filament arteries along the entire length of each hemibranch. The filament corpus cavernosum supplies the secondary lamellae. The lamellae drain into efferent lamellar arterioles which in turn drain into the efferent filament artery and the efferent branchial artery. The vascular anatomy of the arteriovenous pathway is similar to that described in other elasmobranchs and consists of arteriovenous anastomoses, found only arising from efferent arterial circulation, and the venolymphatic system, which is composed of the central venous sinus and the companion vessels.  相似文献

Summary Umbilical vessels of guinea-pig fetuses were studied shortly before birth. In all umbilical cords investigated an innervation of the umbilical vessels is lacking. The intrafetal parts of the umbilical vessels on the other hand are richly innervated. A marked difference in the amount of nerve fibres and the pattern of innervation is found between artery and vein. The artery is supplied by a dense nerve plexus which spins around the media and which originates from nerve bundles within the outer adventitial layers. The comparatively scanty innervation of the vein exhibits a more coarsely meshed net pattern. The nerve bundles in the vein exhibit a close affinity to the vasa vasorum.Number and type of the close contacts between the muscle cells are different in the various sections of the umbilical vessels. Similar to the distribution of nerves they are almost absent in the vessels of the umbilical cord, numerously, however, in the intrafetal parts. Contrary to the innervation, the close contacts in the vein are developed more numerously and more broadly than in the corresponding artery.  相似文献

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels, is critical to most physiological processes and many pathological conditions. During zebrafish development, angiogenesis expands the axial vessels into a complex vascular network that is necessary for efficient oxygen delivery. Although the dorsal aorta and the axial vein are spatially juxtaposed, the initial angiogenic sprouts from these vessels extend in opposite directions, indicating that distinct cues may regulate angiogenesis of the axial vessels. We found that angiogenic sprouts from the dorsal aorta are dependent on vascular endothelial growth factor A (Vegf-A) signalling, and do not respond to bone morphogenetic protein (Bmp) signals. In contrast, sprouts from the axial vein are regulated by Bmp signalling independently of Vegf-A signals, indicating that Bmp is a vein-specific angiogenic cue during early vascular development. Our results support a paradigm whereby different signals regulate distinct programmes of sprouting angiogenesis from the axial vein and dorsal aorta, and indicate that signalling heterogeneity contributes to the complexity of vascular networks.  相似文献

The endothelial cells of the umbilical vessels are frequently used in mechanobiology experiments. They are known to respond to wall shear stress (WSS) of blood flow, which influences vascular growth and remodeling. The in vivo environment of umbilical vascular WSS, however, is not well characterized. In this study, we performed detailed characterization of the umbilical vascular WSS environments using clinical ultrasound scans combined with computational simulations. Doppler ultrasound scans of 28 normal human fetuses from 32nd to 33rd gestational weeks were investigated. Vascular cross-sectional areas were quantified through 3D reconstruction of the vascular geometry from 3D B-mode ultrasound images, and flow velocities were quantified through pulse wave Doppler. WSS in umbilical vein was computed with Poiseuille’s equation, whereas WSS in umbilical artery was obtained via computational fluid dynamics simulations of the helical arterial geometry. Results showed that blood flow velocity for umbilical artery and vein did not correlate with vascular sizes, suggesting that velocity had a very weak trend with or remained constant over vascular sizes. Average WSS for umbilical arteries and vein was 2.81 and 0.52 Pa, respectively. Umbilical vein WSS showed a significant negative correlation with the vessel diameter, but umbilical artery did not show any correlation. We hypothesize that this may be due to differential regulation of vascular sizes based on WSS sensing. Due to the helical geometry of umbilical arteries, bending of the umbilical cord did not significantly alter the vascular resistance or WSS, unlike that in the umbilical veins. We hypothesize that the helical shape of umbilical arteries may be an adaptation feature to render a higher constancy of WSS and flow in the arteries despite umbilical cord bending.  相似文献

The vascularization of the diencephalon (with choroid plexus of the third ventricle, epithalamus and pineal region, thalamus and hypothalamus) of the toad, Bufo bufo (L.) has been studied by means of scanning electron microscopy of vascular corrosion casts. To localize angioarchitectonic patterns of distinct diencephalic regions the authors refer to critical point dried specimens and to histological sections. In the choroid plexus a supply via one choroid artery, which arises from the posterior telencephalic artery, was found. Its strict dichotomous branching is pointed out. In generally a similar vascular pattern like that in the choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle has to be reported. Furthermore the epithalamic region with the epiphysial area was under investigation. No special angioarchitecture of the epiphysis was found. There are also no prominent vascular connections with thalamic or hypothalamic regions. The thalamic region is supplied by branches of the posterior telencephalic artery as well as by branches of the preoptic artery. Epithalamic and thalamic regions are drained via the posterior diencephalic vein. Special attention was also paid to the preoptic, the chiasmatic and the retrochiasmatic area. This study was designed to clarify which vascular carrier, the arteriovenous shunt loop or the arteriovenous bundle, has more potential as a vascular carrier for an artificial skin flap in rats. An arteriovenous shunt loop was constructed between the femoral artery and vein using an interpositional artery (group I) or vein (group II) graft. For arteriovenous bundle groups, the femoral artery and vein were used and subdivided into two groups: distal ligation type (group III) and flow-through type (group IV). The vascular pedicle was wrapped with an artificial dermis and implanted beneath the inguinal skin for 4 weeks. For the control group, a folded sheet of artificial dermis without any vascular carrier was embedded. In experiment 1, the volumes of generated tissue within the artificial dermis were measured in the experimental and control groups (n = 5 in each group). In experiment 2, the origin of new blood vessels sprouting from the arteriovenous shunt loop and arteriovenous bundle were evaluated histologically. The volume of generated tissue in the shunt groups was significantly greater than that in the bundle groups (p < 0.01). However, the bundle groups also showed a great potential for producing new tissue. Serial histological studies showed that new capillaries were derived not only from the vasa vasorum of the femoral vessels but directly from the femoral vein in both the shunt and the bundle groups. This "sprouting" was extensively exhibited in the group III. Although the arteriovenous shunt loop showed a greater potential for producing new tissue and capillaries, the distal ligation type of bundle was thought to be an effective and practical vascular carrier for producing a tissue-engineered skin flap.  相似文献

Sensory neuropeptides may be important in the noncholinergic component of parasympathetic vasodilation in the tracheobronchial circulation. We studied the effects of substance P (SP), neurokinin A (NKA), neurokinin B (NKB) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) on the isolated canine bronchial artery and used pulmonary artery and vein of similar size for comparison. CGRP (10pM-300nM) was a potent relaxant of the bronchial and pulmonary arteries, and the pulmonary vein with equal potency in all vessels. SP in low concentrations (10pM-100nM) caused vasodilation of the precontracted bronchial artery and in high concentration (10-100 microM) contracted the vessel from resting tone. SP also relaxed the pulmonary artery and vein. NKA and NKB caused relaxation in all three vessels. All of the vascular effects of the sensory neuropeptides were concentration-dependent. The order of potency of the neuropeptides in the bronchial and pulmonary artery was SP greater than NKA greater than CGRP greater than NKB. In the pulmonary vein NKB caused a much larger relaxation than SP and NKA but it was less potent than either NKA or CGRP. Capsaicin (1 microM) caused a large contraction of the bronchial artery, similar in magnitude to the contraction caused by high dose of SP. Neuropeptide Y was also studied and found to cause no consistent constriction of any of the vessels studied. In conclusion, CGRP is a universal dilator of the bronchial and pulmonary blood vessels. SP and NKA exert their main effect on arterial vasomotor tone, whereas NKB is the only tachykinin producing marked dilation of the pulmonary vein.  相似文献

The hypothalamo-hypophysial vascular relationship and intra-hypophysial vasculatisation have been described in order to understand the regulatory mechanism of hypothalamic control over the functions of the pituitary gland. In Glossogobius giuris, the disposition of the blood vessels in the head region is on typical teleostean pattern with certain modifications. The nucleus preopticus is supplied through the nucleus preopticus artery, a small blood vessel arising from the anterior branch of the posterior cerebral artery, whereas the pituitary gland receives blood through a pair of hypophysial arteries. The blood from the pituitary is drained off by the pituitary veins whch pour their blood into the supra-orbital sinus. The anterior cerebral vein after taking the blood from anterior part of the brain including the hypothalamus and the nucleus preopticus joins with the supra-orbital sinus. The hypothalamo-hypophysial portal system is absent in this fish. The saccus vasculosus receives blood from the posterior cerebral artery through a small blood vessel and is collected by a prominent saccus vasculosus vein which pours blood into the supra-orbital sinus before it joins the infra-orbital sinus to form the heat vein. There seems to be no physological connection between the saccus vasculosus and pituitary gland. The highly vascularised neurohypophysis interdigitate with the pars intermedia and extends upto the proximal pars distalis. The blood vessels are restricted to the neurohypophysial extensions only. However, in the rostral pars distalis the blood vessels are present but the neurohypophysis does not extend to this part. The blood capillaries enter the rostral pars distalis from the capillary network on the surface of pituitary gland along with the connected tissue covering of the pituitary. The neurohypophysis shows a greater vascularisation in comparison to that of the other glandular part of the pituitary gland. In the present study of Glossogobius giuris, though an extensive ramification of neurohypophysis occurs with the pars intermedia and the proximal pars distalis, the neurosecretory axons do not innervate the endocrine cells of the pituitary gland and the blood vessels are found restricted to the neurohypophysial extensions except that of the rostral pars distalis. The neuro-vascular way of hypothalamic control over the functions of the pituitary gland seems to be justified as the neurosecretory fibres have been found associated with the blood vessels.  相似文献

A method of salvage of mutilated extremities with temporary ectopic implantation of the undamaged distal part is described. We suggest that this method is indicated in devastating segmental injuries of extremities, where the distal part is devascularized and where a necessary radical debridement would include the structures which are indispensable for a good functional result of the replantation but which would possibly survive if treated with an open-wound technique. The method could also be used in cases where an essential length of limb could be preserved by open-wound management with improvement of the functional and aesthetic result of replantation. The method is contraindicated in injuries where perfusion of the distal part is preserved. The lateral upper part of the thorax is suggested as a convenient site, with the thoracodorsal artery and vein as recipient vessels. The timing of replantation of the ectopic implanted part must be carefully planned to avoid complications caused by remaining necrotic tissues or infection. The importance of intensive physiotherapy of the ectopic implanted part is stressed.  相似文献

Interstitial cells of Cajal are believed to play an important role in gastrointestinal tissues by generating and propagating electrical slow waves to gastrointestinal muscles and/or mediating signals from the enteric nervous system. Recently cells with similar morphological characteristics have been found in the wall of blood vessels such as rabbit portal vein and guinea pig mesenteric artery. These non-contractile cells are characterised by the presence of numerous processes and were easily detected in the wall of the rabbit portal vein by staining with methylene blue or by antibodies to the marker of Interstitial Cells of Cajal c-kit. These vascular cells have been termed "interstitial cells" by analogy with interstitial cells found in the gastrointestinal tract. Freshly dispersed interstitial cells from rabbit portal vein and guinea pig mesenteric artery displayed various Ca2+-release events from endo/sarcoplasmic reticulum including fast localised Ca2+ transients (Ca2+ sparks) and longer and slower Ca2+ events. Single interstitial cells from the rabbit portal vein, which is a spontaneously active vessel, also demonstrated rhythmical Ca2+ oscillations associated with membrane depolarisations, which suggests that in this vessel interstitial cells may act as pacemakers for smooth muscle cells. The function of interstitial cells from the mesenteric arteries is yet unknown. This article reviews some of the recent findings regarding interstitial cells from blood vessels obtained by our laboratory using electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, tight-seal patch-clamp recording, and fluorescence confocal imaging techniques.  相似文献

The giant dimensions of vestimentiferan Riftia pachyptila (Jones, 1981 ) are achieved thanks to the well‐developed vascular system. In the vestimentum, there is a complicated net of lacunae, including the brain blood supply and the ventral lacuna underlying the ciliary field. The trunk region has an extensive network of blood vessels feeding the gonads («rete mirabile»). The thick muscular lining of the mesenterial vessels in the trunk and the dorsal vessel in the opisthosome serves as an additional pump, pushing blood into numerous vessels in the segments. It was hypothesized that the blood envelope of the ventral blood vessel in the trunk provides the blood supply to the trophosome. The 3D reconstruction has revealed that there are two vascular systems of the tentacular crown of R. pachyptila . Blood runs into the tentacles via axial afferent vessels, as described earlier only for Riftia , and also via basal ones, as described for other vestimentiferans except Riftia . The basal ones are poorly developed, and the number of lamellar blood vessels is small, indicating a lack of demand for these within huge R. pachyptila . It appears that the presence of these vessels is the preserved ancestral state of Vestimentifera. In different portions of the dorsal vessel, the morphology of the intravasal body varies, depending on function.  相似文献

乳头肌可因缺血、纤维化或梗塞而影响其收缩功能,并产生二尖瓣关闭不全(朱清于等,1980)。致成乳头肌功能不全最常见的原因是心肌供血不足,因此研究乳头肌的动脉,具有实用意义。一些作者(Estes,1966;Farrer-Brown,1968;Ranganathan,1969等)对人心脏乳头肌动脉来源、分支分布作过研究,但关于实验动物家兔乳头肌的动脉的研究文献尚少报道。本文为了开展实验性乳头肌梗塞的研究,对兔心脏左室乳头肌的形态、动脉来源、分布类型以及口径、血管密度等进行了研究。  相似文献
