Aim of this study was to test the gillnet efficiency in Keban Dam Lake using different baits as attractants. Gillnets of 50 m length (stretched mesh sizes: 40, 50, 55 mm) were employed between January 2009 and December 2010 in the study. Two types of grain (corn and wheat) as well as processed plant material (beet cake) and animal livers were tested as bait to attract both carnivorous and omnivorous species. The catching efficiency of baited and non‐baited gill nets was compared. Overall, a total of 358 fish from eight different species were caught in baited gillnets, whereas only 189 fish were caught with non‐baited gillnets. Most fish (55.90%) were caught with corn, wheat or beet cake as bait; the fewest (59 fish, 9.96%) were captured with animal liver. About 34.1% were caught with non‐baited gillnets. By species, Capoeta trutta (Cyprinidae) was most frequently captured. In conclusion, the gillnets bated with corn, wheat, and beet cake yielded higher catches (P < 0.05) than did the non‐baited monofilament gillnets.  相似文献

We estimated the effect of the gill‐net fisheries targeted at whitefish (Coregonus sp.) on anadromous sea trout, Salmo trutta, in the Gulf of Bothnia, Baltic Sea using separate data for fish species. The analysis of sea trout captures was based on tagging and recapture data collected in 1998–2011, while whitefish data were derived from individual samples of commercial fisheries from the same period. The mesh sizes used in gill‐net fishing and the seasonal and temporal distributions of recaptured sea trout and sampled whitefish were compared in the northern and southern Gulf of Bothnia. The trout had typically spent 1–2 years at sea, and they were mainly immature with a median body length of 40–43 cm at the time of recapture in gill nets. Despite the increase in the minimum permitted landing size from 40 to 50 cm in 2008, the median length of recaptured trout remained unchanged during the study period. Most (59%) of the gillnetted trout were caught in the southern Gulf of Bothnia in gill nets with mesh sizes of 40–45 mm, which were also used in the whitefish fishery (72%). In the northern Gulf of Bothnia, nets with a smaller mesh size of 25–39 mm took 83% of the whitefish catch and 39% from recaptured trout. In both areas, the overlap in mesh sizes used to gill‐net catch whitefish and sea trout increased during the study period. There were clear seasonal and areal differences in the relative probability of sea trout being captured in gill nets, suggesting that carefully tailored spatial and temporal restrictions on gill‐net fisheries could provide a tool to protect young sea trout without causing intolerable difficulties for the fisheries targeting other species.  相似文献

The frequency of infection with Ligula intestinalis (Cestoda) in European minnow Phoxinus phoxinus , in a subalpine lake in Eastern Norway, did not differ between vegetated shoreline, exposed shoreline and non-vegetated localities >50 m from the shoreline. There was no difference in the vertical distribution of infected and uninfected individuals. The frequency of infection was higher among minnows in brown trout Salmo trutta stomachs than among those obtained by gillnets and minnow traps, suggesting that brown trout selectively preyed on infected minnows. Prevalence of infection decreased with increasing fish size, probably due to selective mortality among parasitized individuals. Within a given length-class, minnows captured by different sections of multi-mesh gillnets showed a significant increase in the frequency of infection with increasing mesh-size. Apparently, parasitized individuals had a higher catchability in gillnets due to increased girth caused by the plerocercoid in the body cavity. This may partly explain why the observed prevalence of infection was several times higher among minnows captured by gillnets than by minnow traps.  相似文献

Length-Weight relationship (LWRs) were estimated for four fish species occurring in the Ibicuí River drainage basin, southern Brazil. Samples were captured monthly during the spring and summer seasons (October 2018 to March 2019). The fish were caught with gillnets of different meshes (15, 20, 25, 30, 40 mm between adjacent nodes) and a trawl net (5 mm mesh between adjacent nodes) Eighteen excursions were realized in three sites, with a length of approximately 100 km, in third-order flux, all distributed in sub-basin Ibicuí River. The captured tools were installed at the end of the day (6 p.m.) and removed around 6 a.m. the next day. The present study provides the length-weight relationship for four species (Astyanax dissensos, Galeocharax humeralis, Hypostomus roseopunctatus e Hypostomus uruguayensis).  相似文献

Length–weight relationships and length–length were evaluated for three fish species (Schizopygopsis younghusbandi Regan, 1905; Ptychobarbus dipogon Regan, 1905 and Oxygymnocypris stewartii Lloyd, 1908) from the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet. Specimens were captured monthly using floating gillnets (mesh size 7.5 cm), bottom gillnets (mesh size 6.5 cm), and trap nets (mesh size 1.5 mm) from August 2008 to August 2009, March to August 2012, and March to April 2013. Regression coefficient (b) values of length–weight relationships (LWRs) ranged from 3.045 for P. dipogon to 3.193 for O. stewartii, whereas the a values ranged from 0.0040 to 0.0168 for O. stewartii and P. dipogon, respectively.  相似文献

An experiment to induce anadromy in a population of wild brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis , was conducted near Sept-Iles, Quebec, in 1978–1979. Brook trout were captured from the Matamek River, tagged and transported to the Matamek River estuary during late spring and early summer, and allowed free movement between an impassable waterfall 0.7 km upstream and the sea. Fish were recaptured in autumn as they returned to fresh water. Over two years, 34.0% of the released fish were recaptured. Best returns were in the 2+ and 3+ age classes with 38.0 and 62.1% recaptured, respectively. Straying of transplanted fish appeared to be <1%. All age classes included sea run brook trout (sea trout) but the largest percentages of sea trout occurred in older fish. Growth was better in sea trout than in fish which did not develop anadromy, presumably a function of an increased food supply at sea. Severe tagging effects stunted growth and probably suppressed anadromy, especially among younger fish. Sexual characteristics of recaptured fish indicated suppressed maturation of gonads in sea trout compared to fish remaining in fresh water and there was a shift to a larger percentage of females in the sea trout. Comparisons between our results and data on other anadromous Salvelinus species underscore the potential for sea-ranching of trout and char as a moderate effort, high yield aquaculture technique.  相似文献

The food base and stomach contents of stocked sea trout (Salmo trutta) fry were determined in the first 4 months (April–August 2010) of life in two small lowland streams after resorption of the yolk sac. In each stream, 600 individual trout were released in a 200 m stocking‐section. The macrozoobenthos given as a food base for the fry were collected once a month from the streams using a bottom scraper. Three subsamples of macrozoobentos were considered as one sample from the stocking‐section. On the same day, 50 stocked fry were captured in each stream using electric fishing gear. Preferred food components were usually the taxa represented by number in a given stream in a particular month. Width size range of the prey in fish stomachs in May was from 0.10 to 1.47 mm, and from 0.11 to 3.78 mm in August. All food items found in both streams during the study months were also represented in intensity in the fish: Cyclopoida, and larvae of Baetidae and Chironomidae. Almost all Helodidae and Simuliidae larvae as well as the majority of Limoniidae and Nemouridae larvae were available as food each month.  相似文献

The main objective of the study was to estimate the parameters of the length-weight relationship for six small fish species of lower Negro River basin. The fish were sampled using monofilament gillnets (20 × 2 m, mesh size 5 mm between knots), and landing net for 2 days of each month in September and December 2017 and February, March and April 2018. The gillnets were placed in the river twice a day, in the morning (9–11 a.m.) and the afternoon (3–5 p.m.). Total length and total weight were measured to a precision of 0.1 cm and 0.01 g, respectively. The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a.LTb were estimated.  相似文献

Parameters of the length‐weight relationship (LWR) were calculated for five fish species from Amazon Basin. Samplings were carried out in ten lakes of the Solimões River floodplains during the four seasons of the hydrological cycle: rising water, high water, receding water, and low water, during two periods. The first period of eight years included samplings performed from 2001 to 2008 and the second sampling period of two years was from 2012 to 2013. Specimens were captured using gillnets (mesh sizes ranging from 30 to 120 mm between opposite knots) and standardized dimension of 20 m in length × 2 m in height. This study provides the LWR parameters for Acarichthys heckelii, Leporinus trifasciatus, Brycon amazonicus, Curimatella meyeri and Osteoglossum bicirrhosum.  相似文献

Seasonal occurrence of the parasitic copepod Lepeophtheirus salmonis (sea lice) was studied from March to December 2001 in two large north Norwegian sill fjords without fish farming activity, the Ranafjord and the Balsfjord. Anadromous brown trout Salmo trutta (sea trout) in both fjords had a low infestation rate during all sampling periods, but followed a seasonal pattern. During early and late winter (November to December and March to April) and spring (May to June), the prevalence varied from 0 to 25% and the abundance was <0·5 sea lice. Adults dominated (92%) during this period, particularly gravid females. In both fjords, the highest prevalence was during September (80–81%, all stages represented). In Ranafjord, the abundance and mean intensity during this month was 6·8 and 8·6 sea lice, respectively, while in Balsfjord it was 3·6 and 4·5 sea lice, respectively. Fish were captured at temperatures down to 1° C and at full strength sea water which is supposed to cause osmoregulatory problems for the fish. This observation has implications for the understanding of high‐latitude sea trout behaviour and can also make the fish more vulnerable to heavy sea lice infestation during this period. It is suggested that winter running sea trout help to maintain a self replicating local population of sea lice within such fjord systems where other possible hosts ( e.g . farmed Atlantic salmon Salmo salar ) are not present during a whole year cycle.  相似文献

This paper presents length–weight relationships (LWR) for 11 freshwater fish species from the Sapucaí‐Mirim River, a tributary of the Grande River basin, São Paulo, Brazil. The specimens were captured in quarterly samplings between March 2011 and December 2014, using gillnets of mesh size: 1.5–9.0 cm between knots. The influence of mode of capture, season of capture and total body length ( L T) on the probability of regurgitation for striped bass Morone saxatilis captured using gillnets in Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, was examined. Overall, the mean rate of regurgitation for striped bass which contained food contents in their stomach was 8·3%. Striped bass captured by wedging had a higher mean regurgitation rate (17%) than individuals that were either entangled (5%) or gilled (2%). Striped bass caught during the autumn had approximately the same frequency of regurgitation as individuals captured during the summer (10 v . 9%), but these regurgitation rates were higher than those observed for fish during the spring sampling periods (4%). Larger striped bass were more likely to regurgitate their stomach contents than smaller individuals, with the frequency of regurgitation increasing by 0·7% for every 50 mm increase in L T. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of identifying factors that influence regurgitation of stomach contents to minimize and account for biases associated with diet data collected from striped bass captured in gillnets. Using this information, sampling recommendations for food‐habit and feeding‐rate studies involving the collection of piscivorous fishes using gillnets are made.  相似文献

The effects of two hook‐types (circle or J hook) fished with two different baits (red worms Eisenia spp., or cyprinid fishes) were examined for deep‐hooking, catch rate, mean total length, and selectivity of Eurasian perch, Perca fluviatilis, in the Åland Archipelago, Finland. The perch population available to hook‐and‐line gear was sampled with multipanel gillnets, with panels ranging from 10 to 60 mm in stretched mesh diameter. The effect of each hook then was examined for each bait by conditioning the size distributions of hook‐and‐line catches on the size distribution of perch collected with gillnets to estimate selectivity. The proportion of deeply‐hooked perch was 4.8 times greater for J hooks (0.21) than circle hooks (0.04) baited with worms and 3.7 times greater for J hooks (0.33) than circle hooks (0.09) baited with fish. Catch rates were significantly different between the two baits but not between the two hooks, with the greatest catch rate observed for the circle hook baited with worms. There was no significant difference in perch total length between the two hooks, but there was a significant difference between the two baits, with the fish bait catching significantly larger perch. Perch selection peaks between the two hooks differed by only 13.8 mm, but the selection peak with fish bait (236.4 mm TL) was 119.9 mm greater than the selection peak with the worm bait (116.5 mm TL). A substantially lesser incidence of deep hooking support the conservation benefits of circle hook use for perch, especially when catch‐and‐release is practiced. Using fish baits similar in size to those used in this experiment can avoid potentially harmful interactions between relatively small perch and anglers who place little importance on catch motives but whose satisfaction is still catch‐dependent.  相似文献

The euryhaline status of steelhead trout, Salmo gairdneri , smolts was challenged in sea water for 2 weeks after which half of the total fish population was returned to fresh water. Acclimation continued and created two test populations in 29%osea water and fresh water. Subsequently these fish were exposed in fresh water or sea water to approximately equal hyperbaric dissolved total gas pressures (ΔP) of 190 mm Hg or about 125% of barometric pressure. Sea water was easier to supersaturate with air and required only about 10% of the entrained air which was required in fresh water at the same temperature and pressure. Mean time to first mortality was sooner in sea water. Mean times to mortality (10–50%) were not significantly different between fresh water and sea water, but there was a noticeable trend for longer survival in fresh water.  相似文献

The hypothesis that body size and swimming velocity affect proximate body composition, wet mass and size‐selective mortality of fasted fish was evaluated using small (107 mm mean total length, L T) and medium (168 mm mean L T) juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss that were sedentary or swimming ( c . 1 or 2 body length s−1) and fasted for 147 days. The initial amount of energy reserves in the bodies of fish varied with L T. Initially having less lipid mass and relatively higher mass‐specific metabolic rates caused small rainbow trout that were sedentary to die of starvation sooner and more frequently than medium‐length fish that were sedentary. Swimming at 2 body length s−1 slightly increased the rate of lipid catabolism relative to 1 body length s−1, but did not increase the occurrence of mortality among medium fish. Death from starvation occurred when fish had <3·2% lipid remaining in their bodies. Juvenile rainbow trout endured long periods without food, but their ability to resist death from starvation was limited by their length and initial lipid reserves.  相似文献

Juvenile and adult anadromous trout Salmo trutta utilize the sea for feeding during the winter in the Skagerrak. This finding conflicts with the traditional view that anadromous trout overwinter in fresh water. Adults, just prior to spawning, were captured at sea in October to December, and spent fish were caught at sea from October to April, showing that the fish may leave the stream and move to sea just after spawning and spend the winter there. During mid‐winter (January to February), the feeding probability (chance of finding a fish with food in its stomach) increased markedly with increasing body length, with no similar effect during early and late winter (October to December and March to April). Among individuals with food in their stomach (72·5%), there was no evidence for variation in feeding intensity [stomach fullness = (mass of stomach content)(fish body mass)−1] among early, mid‐, and late winter.  相似文献

Mortality of non‐target flatfishes that had escaped from various sizes (40, 44 and 50 mm) of codend meshes was determined by capturing and holding the escapees in cages for 7 days. Although three flatfish species were studied, sufficient data for detailed analyses were obtained only for Buglossidium luteum (Risso, 1810) (solenette). Trawl hauls (48 in total) with 15 min towing durations were conducted in the summer and winter seasons of 2011 and 2012. A tailored bottom trawl with 800 meshes around the mouth was used with covers to capture fish. Covers were used as an observation cage, and were fixed to the sea bottom at depths of 3.0–8.2 m. The monitoring period was 7 days. It was estimated that average escape mortality of B. luteum for all test cages (96.5%) in summer was significantly higher (p < .01) than that in winter (56.5%). Mesh size and shape was not a significant factor (p > .01), with the exception of the 2011 winter; however, the mortality rate was inversely related to fish length in most cases (p < .01). High mortalities (~100%) were observed for Arnoglossus laterna (Walbaum, 1792) (Mediterranean scaldfish) and Citharus linguatula (Linnaeus, 1758) (spotted flounder) in all hauls in both summer and winter.  相似文献

Management of multiple exploited stocks of anadromous salmonids in large catchments requires understanding of movement and catchment use by the migrating fish and of their harvesting. The spawning migration of sea trout (Salmo trutta) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was studied in the River Tweed, UK, using acoustic telemetry to complement exploitation rate data and to quantify catchment penetration. Salmon (n = 79) and sea trout (n = 65) were tagged in the tidal-influenced Tweed in summer–autumn. No tagged salmon left the river before spawning, but 3% (2010) and 8% (2011) of pre-spawning sea trout dropped out. Combined tag regurgitation/fish mortality in salmon was 12.5%, while trout mortality was 6% (2010) and 0% (2011). The estimated spawning positions of salmon and sea trout differed; tagged salmon were mostly in the main channel while trout occurred mostly in the upper Tweed and tributaries. Early fish migrated upstream slower than later fish, but sea trout moved through the lower-middle river more quickly than salmon, partly supporting the hypothesis that the lower exploitation rate in autumn of trout (1 vs 3.3% for salmon) there is generated by differences in migration behaviour.  相似文献

Rainbow trout were introduced to Lake Titicaca in 1942. A commercial trout canning operation started in 1961 but terminated in 1970. Data for this study were collected in 1966 and 1967, with the object of examining the life history, biology, and commercial fishery of Titicaca rainbow trout. Trout were caught commercially and experimentally by gillnets in different parts of the lake.
Lake Titicaca lies across the border of Peru and Bolivia at 3212 m above sea level. The physico-chemical characteristics of the lake appear ideal for self-sustaining populations of rainbow trout. Growth was constant throughout the year, and was good in relation to growth rates of rainbow trout in other parts of the world. Spawning took place in the tributaries in the winter. Recruitment to the fishery occurs in 7.62 cm stretch mesh gillnets at about 27 cm fork length.
The total annual commercial catch increased to 500 metric tons in 1965 before subsequently decreasing. The simplest explanation for the decline in total catch would be the increase in fishing mortality due to increased fishing effort, although it is possible that the decline in water level has had some effect. It appeared possible that the lake could sustain an annual catch of about 350 tons.  相似文献
