Physalia is a genus of pelagic colonial hydrozoans often known by common names such as ‘Portuguese-man-of-war’ or ‘bluebottle’. Siphonophore
systematists generally recognise only a single species in this genus, Physalia physalis, however the name Physalia utriculus is also still in common use, which has led to considerable taxonomic confusion. With some morphological variation between
global regions there is the possibility that this genus holds a substantial amount of cryptic variation. We seek to examine
the genetic structure of Physalia present in New Zealand coastal waters. Fifty-four specimens collected from 13 locations around New Zealand and Australia
were sequenced for both mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and the first internal transcribed spacer (ITS1) of the nuclear ribosomal cistron. Sequences were analysed
using maximum likelihood and split decomposition neighbour networks to determine conflict between clans (the unrooted analog
of clades). Three clans were identified from both the COI and ITS sequences. The results are complex and clans are not consistent
between the two genes. Nevertheless, it seems that there is substantial cryptic diversity amongst Physalia present in New Zealand coastal waters. 相似文献

Four new and one unidentified species of Neohaliotrema Yamaguti, 1965 were obtained from the gills of the Indo-Pacific sergeant Abudefduf vaigensis (Quoy & Gaimard) off Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia. The five species, N. malayense n. sp., N. bombini n. sp., N. andamanense n. sp., N. parvum n. sp. and an unidentified Neohaliotrema sp. (similar to N. macracanthum Zhukov, 1976), are described and distinguished based mainly on features of the haptor. Species of this genus are divisible
into two groups, the ‘maomao group’, with two pairs of morphometrically modified ‘marginal’ hooks and a fenestrated haptor,
and the ‘gracile group’, with morphologically similar marginal hooks and an entire haptor. With the exception of N. bombini n. sp., the species described fit within the ‘maomao group’. It is suggested that the more complex Neohaliotrema species of the ‘maomao group’ have modified hooks 1 and 2 on a haptoral ‘isthmus’ between two large apertures, i.e. ‘windows’,
whereas the less complex species lacking these features are those of the ‘gracile group’. Neohaliotrema spp. have only a single pair of pigmented eye-spots. A fenestrated haptor is unique to the Neohaliotrema spp. of the ‘maomao group’. The generic diagnosis of Neohaliotrema is amended to include new data and a key to its known species is presented. 相似文献

Within Rosa section Caninae (dogroses) two different growth types exist, arching (L-type) and erect (D-type). Due to the specific mode of chromosome allocation during meiosis, character inheritance in dogroses is maternally skewed. In this paper we try to assess the mode of inheritance of the ‘growth form’ in reciprocal hybrids of R. canina L. and R. rubiginosa L. to predict possible ecological niches and radiation processes of hybridogenic offspring. A quantitative analysis of mechanical properties indicates that neither an expected parentally skewed nor an intermediate habit was expressed by the hybrids, but a dominant L-type as in R. canina, regardless of the parental relationship (pollen-parent or seed-parent). Our results implicate two possible scenarios to be further tested: (a) R. canina acts as a species with a dominant allele for the growth form character. If so, this would be the first evidence of a Mendelian character inheritance in the dogroses. (b) ‘Growth form’ in the dogroses is not a Mendelian character, but a syndrom which realises as an emergent functional property with underlying phenotypic structural differences in stem and wood anatomy.The first two authors contributed equally to the study. 相似文献

An incompletely dominant gene conferring resistance to Puccinia hordei, Rph14, identified previously in an accession of Hordeum vulgare, confers resistance to all known pathotypes of P. hordei in Australia. Knowledge of the chromosomal location of Rph14 and the identification of DNA markers closely linked to it will facilitate combining it with other important leaf rust resistance
genes to achieve long lasting resistance. The inheritance of Rph14 was confirmed using 146 and 106 F3 lines derived from the crosses ‘Baudin’/‘PI 584760’ (Rph14) and ‘Ricardo’/‘PI 584760’ (Rph14), respectively. Bulk segregant analysis on DNA from the parental genotypes and resistant and susceptible DNA bulks using
DArT markers located Rph14 to the short arm of chromosome 2H. DArT marker bPb-1664 was identified as having the closest genetic association with Rph14. PCR based marker analysis identified a single SSR marker, Bmag692, linked closely to Rph14 at a map distance of 2.1 and 3.8 cm in the ‘Baudin’/‘PI 584760’and ‘Ricardo’/‘PI 584760’ populations, respectively. 相似文献

The contributions of cadmium (Cd) accumulation in cell walls, antioxidative enzymes and induction of phytochelatins (PCs)
to Cd tolerance were investigated in two distinctive genotypes of black oat (Avena strigosa Schreb.). One cultivar of black oat ‘New oat’ accumulated Cd in the leaves at the highest concentration compared to another
black oat cultivar ‘Soil saver’ and other major graminaceous crops. The shoot:root Cd ratio also demonstrated that ‘New oat’
was the high Cd-accumulating cultivar, whereas ‘Soil saver’ was the low Cd-accumulating cultivar. Varied levels of Cd exposure
demonstrated the strong Cd tolerance of ‘New oat’. By contrast, low Cd-accumulating cultivar ‘Soil saver’ suffered Cd toxicity
such as growth defects and increased lipid peroxidation, even though it accumulated less Cd in shoots than ‘New oat’. Higher
activities of ascorbate peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.11) and superoxide dismutase (EC 1. 15. 1. 1) were observed in the leaves of
‘New oat’ than in ‘Soil saver’. No advantage of ‘New oat’ in PCs induction was observed in comparison to Cd-sensitive cultivar
‘Soil saver’, although Cd exposure increased the concentration of total PCs in both cultivars. Higher and increased Cd accumulation
in cell wall fraction was observed in shoots of ‘New oat’. On the other hand, in ‘Soil saver’, apoplasmic Cd accumulation
showed saturation under higher Cd exposure. Overall, the present results suggest that cell wall Cd accumulation and antioxidative
activities function in the tolerance against Cd stress possibly in combination with vacuolar Cd compartmentation. 相似文献

Pyrolysis mass spectrometry (PyMS) is a rapid, simple, high-resolution analytical method based on thermal degradation of complex
materials in a vacuum. It is widely applied to the discrimination of closely related microbial strains. Leaf samples from
eight cultivars (‘Apricot Delight’, ‘Cooler Grape’, ‘Cooler Peppermint’, ‘Equator Grape’, ‘Equator Rose’, ‘Equator White’,
‘Equator White Eye’, and ‘Little Bright Eye’) of Catharanthus roseus were subjected to PyMS for spectral fingerprinting. Discriminant analysis (DA) of PyMS data enabled us to assign these cultivars
to discrete clusters. A hierarchical dendrogram based on DA provided a possible relationship among them that was in general
agreement with a previously reported classification of the cultivars based on DNA fingerprints. Furthermore, those belonging
to the same ‘series’ were grouped into a single cluster, which previously could not be achieved through similar approaches
based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy or 1H NMR data. Overall results suggest that chemical differences (i.e., in pyrolysate composition) among cultivars, as detected
by mass spectrometry, reflect their genetic variation. 相似文献

Summary An efficient and simple plant regeneration system via organogenesis from leaf segments of persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) cultivars ‘Fuyu’ and ‘Nishimurawase’ has been developed. The regeneration capacity was influenced by the culture
vessels, gelling agents, plant growth regulators, and light conditions. Leaf explants taken from in vitro shoots were cultured on a modified Murashige and Skoog medium (MS1/2N), for 16 wk without transfer to fresh medium. Adventious
shoots appeared after 4 and 8 wk in culture of ‘Nishimurawase’ and ‘Fuyu’ tissues, respectively. The culture of leaf explants
in Erlenmeyer flasks with medium containing 4 g l−1 agar enhanced shoot formation in comparison to media with increased agar concentrations. Optimal shoot regeneration was obtained
with 5 mg l−1 (22.8 μM) zeatin and 0.1 mg l−1 (0.05 μM) indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) for ‘Nishimurawase’, and 10 mg l−1 (45.6 μM) zeatin and 0.1 mg l−1 (0.05 μM) IBA for ‘Fuyn’. Shoot regeneration frequencies in both cultivars were 100%, and shoot numbers per explant reached up to
9.2 for ‘Nishimurawase’ and 2.2 for ‘Fuyu’. Dark incubation during the first 4–5 wk was the most effective condition to successfully
influence shoot regeneration in both cultivars. While dark incubation was essential for adventitious shoot formation by ‘Fuyu’,
it was only slightly beneficial to ‘Nishimurawase’. More than 80% of the regenerated shoots rooted within 4 wk on hormone-free
MS1/2N demium after having been dipped for 30 s in 250 mg l−1 (1.1. mM) IBA solution. 相似文献

Stable co-existence of similar species should be facilitated by mechanisms impairing, besides exploitative, interference competition.
We investigated avoidance of intra- and interspecific conflicts in a four-species community of shrews [Sorex minutus Linnaeus, 1766,S. araneus Linnaeus, 1758,Neomys anomalus Cabrera, 1907, andN. fodiens (Pennant, 1771)], using the method of dyadic encounters in a neutral arena. We tested whether the use of passive (habituation,
reduction of mobility, increase of inter-individual distance, and stillness) and active (‘to-and-fro’ and ‘keeping distance’
behaviours) forms of conflict avoidance depends on species, size or domination rank. The duration of conflicts was positively
correlated with mobility and negatively with inter-individual distance, whereas it was unrelated to time of stillness and
the active forms. The repertoire of conflict avoidance mechanisms was not species-specific and the display of these mechanisms
depended rather on the size and domination rank of animals participating in a given interaction. In contrast to rodents, shrews
did not avoid conflicts by the most passive forms: freeze and stillness reactions. All other forms were used with a higher
or lower efficiency by all species. However, consistent with our predictions, large shrews (asN. fodiens) used mainly the passive mechanisms of conflicts avoidance (‘wait-and-see’ strategy), whereas small shrews (asS. minutus) invest proportionally more time in active forms (‘escape’ strategy). 相似文献

Children acquiring French at first use just one form of each verb, where the meaning identifies only the event-type. How and
when do they add additional forms, with the appropriate meanings? In this paper, we explore the information available to children
from adult reformulations of these early verb-form uses, and show how adult construals contribute to children’s learning to
distinguish between the homophonous infinitival (donner ‘give-Inf’) and participial (donné ‘give-PP’) forms, both /done/, of class 1 verbs. We argue that conversational exchanges, with the construals adults contribute,
enable children to differentiate the meanings of homophonous forms, and so begin to construct verb paradigms. 相似文献

Siphonophores are exclusively marine cnidaria and their predatory role in plankton food-webs is well recognised. In this study,
we analyse the structure and the spatial extent of siphonophore assemblages in relation to changes in freshwater outflows
and food availability in the southern Gulf of Mexico during a high (October) and a low (April) outflow periods. A total of
149 samples were collected using a 505 μm multiple closing net at 1–6 levels (0–100 m) of the water column, depending on the
bathymetry. Data on siphonophore species biovolumes (ml 100 m−3) were treated by means of the Bray-Curtis Dissimilarity Index, and two distinctive assemblages were identified: the ‘inner’
and the ‘outer’ assemblages, located over the inner and outer shelves. Temperature, salinity, zooplankton biomass, and siphonophore
species were included in a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify the factors associated with each assemblage. Geographical
distribution of the assemblages practically remained the same during both seasons and its cross-shelf variability was stronger
than the vertical one. Seasonally, diversity values were higher in October, when the highest river discharges occur. Spatially,
the lowest diversity and mean siphonophore biovolumes values were registered in the ‘inner assemblage’, where the highest
and lowest salinity values were recorded. We suggest that even when extreme salinity values (>36.5 or <34) might depress siphonophore
populations in the coastal area, enough food availability in the concerned areas might mitigate the negative effect of salinity,
since a positive and significant (p < 0.05) relationship was found between siphonophores biovolume and zooplankton biomass. Bassia bassensis, Diphyes dispar and Enneanogum hyalinum, present in both assemblages during both seasons, were able to survive in a wide range of salinity values, following perhaps,
their prey. All the 23 species here registered were found in the ‘outer assemblage’; however, Abylopsis eschscholtzi, Chelophyes appendiculata and Diphyes bojani were more associated with the ‘outer’ group according to the PCA results. Enneagonum hyalinum was the only species frequently encountered and abundant in the ‘inner assemblage’ during both seasons and, supporting previous
observations, this species might be considered as an indicator of nearshore waters.

‘SI1300’ is a self-incompatible Brassica napus line generated by introgressing an S haplotype from B. rapa ‘Xishuibai’ into a rapeseed cultivar ‘Huayou No. 1’. Five S-locus specific primer pairs were employed to develop cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) markers linked the S haplotype of ‘SI1300’. Two segregating populations (F2 and BC1) from the cross between ‘SI1300’ and self-compatible European spring cultivar ‘Defender’, were generated to verify the molecular
markers. CAPS analysis revealed no desirable polymorphism between self-incompatible and self-compatible plants. Twenty primer
pairs were designed based on the homology-based candidate gene method, and six dominant sequence characterized amplified region
(SCAR) markers linked with the S-locus were developed. Of the six markers, three were derived from the SRK and SP11 alleles of class II B. rapa
S haplotypes and linked with S haplotype of ‘SI1300’. The other three markers were designed from the SLG-A10 and co-segregated with S haplotype of ‘Defender’. We successfully combined two pairs of them and characterized two multiplex PCR markers which could
discriminate the homozygous and heterozygous genotypes. These markers were further validated in 24 F3 and 22 BC1F2 lines of ‘SI1300 × Defender’ and another two segregating populations from the cross ‘SI1300 × Yu No. 9’. Nucleotide sequences
of fragments linked with S-locus of ‘SI1300’ showed 99% identity to B. rapa class II S-60 haplotype, and fragments from ‘Defender’ were 97% and 94% identical to SLG and SRK of B. rapa class I S-47 haplotype, respectively. ‘SI1300’ was considered to carry two class II S haplotypes and the S haplotype on the A-genome derived from B. rapa ‘Xishuibai’ determines the SI phenotype, while ‘Defender’ carry a class I S haplotype derived from B. rapa and a class II S haplotype from B. oleracea. SCAR markers developed in this study will be helpful for improving SI lines and accelerating marker-assisted selection process

Phytophthora fragariae var. fragariae is the causal agent of red stele (red core) root rot in strawberry (Fragaria spp.). The inheritance of resistance to one isolate of this fungus was studied in 12 segregating populations of F.×ananassa derived from crosses between four resistant cultivars (‘Climax’, ‘Redgauntlet’, ‘Siletz’, and ‘Sparkle’) and three susceptible
cultivars (‘Blakemore’, ‘Glasa’, and ‘Senga’ Sengana’). The analysis clearly supports the hypothesis of a single segregating
dominant resistance gene. It is proposed that this gene be designated Rpf2.

Powdery mildew, caused by the obligate biotrophic ascomycete Erysiphe necator, is one of the most destructive grapevine diseases worldwide. Cultivars of Vitis vinifera L, for wine and table grape production, are all susceptible to E. necator, whose attacks result in severe epidemics under the warm and dry conditions of the Mediterranean basin. The aim of the present
study was to compare the susceptibility of different grapevine cultivars to E. necator by an in vitro assay for assessing the potentiality of this method in breeding programs for resistance to the pathogen. Leaves of 12 grapevine
cultivars were spot-inoculated in vitro with about 10 conidia from five different isolates of E. necator, using colony growth and conidiation 3 wk post-inoculation as indicators of susceptibility to the disease. A remarkable difference
was observed between highly susceptible cultivars like ‘Baresana’, ‘Malvasia’, ‘Bianca’, and ‘Italia’, and the less susceptible
‘Alphonse Lavallée’ and ‘Ohanez’, in accordance with their behavior in the field. No statistically significant differences

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the differential responses of flower opening to ethylene in two cut rose cultivars,
‘Samantha’, whose opening process is promoted, and ‘Kardinal’, whose opening process is inhibited by ethylene. Ethylene production
and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) synthase and oxidase activities were determined first. After ethylene treatment,
ethylene production, ACC synthase (ACS) and ACC oxidase (ACO) activities in petals increased and peaked at the earlier stage
(stage 3) in ‘Samantha’, and they were much more dramatically enhanced and peaked at the later stage (stage 4) in ‘Kardinal’
than control during vasing. cDNA fragments of three Rh-ACSs and one Rh-ACO genes were cloned and designated as Rh-ACS1, Rh-ACS2, Rh-ACS3 and Rh-ACO1 respectively. Northern blotting analysis revealed that, among three genes of ACS, ethylene-induced expression patterns of
Rh-ACS3 gene corresponded to ACS activity and ethylene production in both cultivars. A more dramatic accumulation of Rh-ACS3 mRNA was induced by ethylene in ‘Kardinal’ than that of ‘Samantha’. As an ethylene action inhibitor, STS at concentration
of 0.2 mmol/L generally inhibited the expression of Rh-ACSs and Rh-ACO in both cultivars, although it induced the expression of Rh-ACS3 transiently in ‘Kardinal’. Our results suggests that ‘Kardinal’ is more sensitive to ethylene than ‘Samantha’; and the changes
of Rh-ACS3 expression caused by ethylene might be related to the acceleration of flower opening in ‘Samantha’ and the inhibition in
‘Kardinal’. Additional results indicated that three Rh-ACSs genes were differentially associated with flower opening and senescence as well as wounding. 相似文献

Summary Carbohydrate type and concentration and their interactive effects on in vitro shoot proliferation of three lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea ssp. vitis-idaea L.) cultivars (‘Regal’, ‘Splendor’, and ‘Erntedank’) and two V. vitis-idaea ssp. minus (Lodd) clones (‘NL1’ and ‘NL2’) were studied. Nodal explants were grown in vitro on medium with 2 μM zeatin and either glucose, sorbitol, or sucrose at a concentration of 0, 10, 20, or 30 gl−1. The interactive effects of carbohydrate type and concentration and genotype were important for shoot proliferation. The
best response was afforded by sucrose at 20 gl−1 both in terms of explant response and shoot developing potential, although glucose supported shoot growth equally well, and
in ‘NL1’ at 10 gl−1 it resulted in better in vitro growth than sucrose. Carbohydrate concentration had little effect on shoot vigor. The genotypes differed in terms of shoots
per explant, length, and vigor, leaves per shoot, and callus formation at the base of explants; this was manifested with various
types and concentrations of carbohydrate. Changing the positioning of explants on the medium from vertically upright to horizontal
increased the shoot and callus size, but decreased shoot height and leaves per shoot. Proliferated shoots were rooted on a
peat:perlite (1∶1, v/v) medium and the plantlets were acclimatized and eventually established in the greenhouse. 相似文献

To predict the role of ombrotrophic bogs as carbon sinks in the future, it is crucial to understand how Sphagnum vegetation in bogs will respond to global change. We performed a greenhouse experiment to study the effects of two temperature
treatments (17.5 and 21.7°C) and two N addition treatments (0 and 4 g N m−2 year−1) on the growth of four Sphagnum species from three geographically interspersed regions: S. fuscum, S. balticum (northern and central Sweden), S. magellanicum and S. cuspidatum (southern Sweden). We studied the growth and cover change in four combinations of these Sphagnum species during two growing seasons. Sphagnum height increment and production were affected negatively by high temperature and high N addition. However, the northern species
were more affected by temperature, while the southern species were more affected by N addition. High temperature depressed
the cover of the ‘wet’ species, S. balticum and S. cuspidatum. Nitrogen concentrations increased with high N addition. N:P and N:K ratios indicated P-limited growth in all treatments
and co-limitation of P and K in the high N treatments. In the second year of the experiment, several containers suffered from
a severe fungal infection, particularly affecting the ‘wet’ species and the high N treatment. Our findings suggest that global
change can have negative consequences for the production of Sphagnum species in bogs, with important implications for the carbon sequestration in these ecosystems. 相似文献

Enhanced nitrogen (N) deposition at high latitudes is a circumpolar phenomenon. Low soil phosphorus (P), however, may limit
vegetation responses to increased N inputs. From 2000 to 2002, the effects of N at 0, 0.5 (a rate occurring in Greenland and
Iceland) and 5 (equivalent to deposition in areas of Europe) g N m−2 a−1 and P (0.1 g m−2 a−1) treatments on plant species’ cover and diversity were determined at a polar semidesert site (ambient deposition c 0.1 g N m−2 a−1) in Svalbard (79°N). The largest response was to combined 5 g N plus 1 g P m−2 a−1, where cover of Saxifraga oppositifolia increased c fourfold, density of Salix polaris leaves c ninefold, seedlings of several ‘new’ species (Draba oxycarpa, Saxifraga caespitosa, Sagina nivalis) were established and ‘immigration’ of Bryum arcticum and ‘extinction’ of Schistidium apocarpum were observed. There were fewer, less pronounced, effects on the plant community at 0.5 g N m−2 a−1. Low P availability did indeed appear to restrict vegetation response to N. There was a trend for plant species’ richness
and diversity to increase with 1 g P m−2 a−1 at 0 and 0.5 g N m−2 a−1, but not at 5 g N m−2. Plant species showed individualistic responses so that generalisation by functional type was not possible. Such increased
colonisation by moss species of bare soil, and greater densities of previously unrecorded angiosperm seedlings, are not usually
observed in more closed (subarctic) tundra as a response to N and P additions. These changes are likely to influence significantly
nutrient cycles, whole system carbon budgets and surface energy and water balances.

. The stripe resistance gene from the indica rice (Oryza sativa) cv ‘Modan’ was introgressed into several Japanese rice varieties. We found 4 RFLP markers in ‘Modan’, five susceptible parental
rice varieties (‘Norin No. 8’, ‘Sachihikari’, ‘Kanto No. 98’, ‘Hokuriku No.103’ and ‘Koganebare’) and four resistant progeny
varieties (‘St. No. 1’, ‘Aichi No. 6’, ‘Aoisora’ and ‘Asanohikari’). Graphical genotyping of the resistant progeny revealed
a chromosomal segment ascribable to ‘Modan’ and associated with stripe resistance. The chromosomal segment from ‘Modan’ was

The aim of this work was to provide a set of mitochondrial markers to reveal polymorphism and to study the maternal phylogeny
in citrus. We first used 44 universal markers previously described in the literature: nine of these markers produced amplification
products but only one revealed polymorphism in citrus. We then designed six conserved pairs of primers using the complete
mitochondrial DNA sequences of Arabidopsis thaliana and Beta vulgaris to amplify polymorphic intergenic and intronic regions. From these six pairs of primers, three from introns of genes coding
for NADH dehydrogenase subunits 2, 5, and 7, revealed polymorphism in citrus. First, we confirmed that citrus have a maternal
mitochondrial inheritance in two populations of 250 and 120 individuals. We then conducted a phylogenic study using four polymorphic
primers on 77 genotypes representing the diversity of Citrus and two related genera. Seven mitotypes were identified. Six mitotypes (Poncirus, Fortunella, Citrus medica, Citrus micrantha, Citrus reticulata, and Citrus maxima) were congruent with previous taxonomic investigations. The seventh mitotype enabled us to distinguish an acidic mandarin
group (‘Cleopatra’, ‘Sunki’ and ‘Shekwasha’) from other mandarins and revealed a maternal relationship with Citrus limonia (‘Rangpur’ lime, ‘Volkamer’ lemon) and Citrus jambhiri (‘Rough’ lemon). This mitotype contained only cultivated species used as rootstocks due to their good tolerances to abiotic
stress. Our results also suggest that two species classified by Swingle and Reece, Citrus limon, and Citrus aurantifolia, have multiple maternal cytoplasmic origins. 相似文献

The effects of post harvest application of ethylene, abscisic acid (ABA), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) treatments or dark storage
on root induction and continued growth of regenerated roots in Pelargonium cuttings were investigated using hydroponics in the greenhouse. Ethylene markedly increased rooting percentage in ‘Greco’
and ‘Surfing’, reduced the number of roots per cutting in ‘Surfing’ and had no effect on the total root lengths in the two
cultivars. Ethylene treatment reduced fresh root mass in ‘Surfing’, increased dry root mass and reduced root water content
in both cultivars. ABA (50 μM) enhanced rooting percentage in ‘Greco’, reduced the number of roots per cutting, reduced total
root lengths and fresh root mass in both cultivars. ABA increased dry root mass and reduced root water content in ‘Surfing’
but this effect was not apparent in ‘Greco’. Storing cuttings in the dark for 4 days had no effect on rooting percentage and
number of roots per cutting in ‘Greco’ and ‘Surfing’. However, dark storage reduced total root lengths in ‘Surfing’ and reduced
fresh root mass in ‘Greco’. Dark storage had no effect on dry root mass and water content in both cultivars. Applying 4 μl l−1 IBA in the rooting solution induced maximum (100%) root induction in ‘Surfing’. However, IBA reduced the number of roots
per cutting in ‘Greco’, reduced total root lengths and fresh root mass in the two cultivars. IBA treatment profoundly increased
and reduced dry root mass and root water content, respectively, in ‘Greco’ and ‘Surfing’. The enhanced root induction observed
after IBA and ABA applications could be ascribed to their influence on ethylene biosynthesis, since ethylene treatment increased
rooting percentage in both cultivars. However, high ABA (100 μM) and IBA (12 μl l−1) levels or dark storage reduced the ability of induced roots to continue growth. We attribute our results to plant stress-response
mechanism and ethylene appears to play an important role in the process of root initiation and root growth in Pelargonium cuttings. 相似文献
