A STUDY OF POND COLONIZATION BY FRESHWATER MOLLUSCS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Molluscan community diversity and composition were studied ina string of 39 ponds of uniform age and similar size, but ofvaried water chemistry, in eastern Manitoba, Canada. Speciesdistribution was examined in relation to bottom substrate, 11water chemistry parameters, macrophyte diversity and distancebetween ponds. Fifteen gastropod and 3 bivalve species werepresent in the ponds, which showed a mean mollusc species diversityof 4.3. Cluster analyses indicated that adjacent ponds wereseldom similar in community composition or water chemistry.Several species appeared to be restricted in distribution amongthe ponds by unsuitable water chemistry parameter values, themost significant of these being total dissolved solids, pH andtotal alkalinity. Stepwise multiple regression analysis identifiedtotal dissolved solids as the most important water chemistryparameter associated with mollusc diversity in the ponds, butthis factor explained only a small proportion of the total variance.The most common species had broad tolerance ranges for mostparameters while species restricted in terms of some environmentalparameters were less frequent and generally occurred at greatermean distances. The pond communities appeared to be the productof a number of environmental and biotic variables, whose relativeimportance differed among species as well as among ponds. The temporal variation of the gastropod fauna inhabiting sandy sediments of the Ensenada de Baiona (Galicia, Spain) was studied at three subtidal sites from February 1996 to February 1997 by means of quantitative sampling. A total of 5,463 individuals representing 51 gastropod species and 22 families were found. The family Pyramidellidae was the most diverse in number of species (11 species), followed by Rissoidae and Trochidae (4 species each). The dogwhelk, Nassarius reticulatus, and the rissoid snail, Rissoa parva, were the numerically dominant species at the three studied sites; those and other abundant species showed their greatest densities by the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. In general, univariate measures of the assemblage (number of species, abundance, diversity and evenness) showed variations through time; greater values were recorded between summer and autumn depending on the site. Multivariate analyses done on abundance data showed certain seasonality in the evolution of the assemblage as expected for shallow subtidal sandy sediments at temperate latitudes; those seasonal changes were mostly related to variations in abundance of numerically dominant species. Although the measured sedimentary variables did not show significant correlations with faunal univariate parameters, sediment heterogeneity due to the presence of mats of Zostera marina L. and shells of dead bivalves might explain the differences in composition of the gastropod assemblage among sampling sites.  相似文献

To develop strategies for the management and protection of aquatic biodiversity in water bodies at the landscape scale, there is a need for information on the spatial organization of diversity in different types of aquatic habitats. In this study, we compared the cladoceran composition and diversity between wheel tracks, pools, ponds, lakes, ditches, and streams, in 18 different areas of Flanders (Belgium). Multivariate analysis revealed significant differences in the composition of cladoceran communities among the different water body types. Average local and total diversity tended to be highest for lakes and lowest for streams. Despite the relatively high number of species supported by lakes, small water bodies seem to contribute considerably more to the total cladoceran richness of an average landscape in Flanders than lakes, because of their high abundance. With respect to biodiversity conservation at the landscape scale, our results point to the importance of maintaining a diversity of water body types of different size, permanence and flow regimes. Ostracod diversity and abundance was studied in 10 different types of water bodies of Belarus (bogs, brooks, canals, oxbows, ponds, reservoirs, rivers, springs, shoal of lake and temporary pools). Hydrochemical variables, sediment, and vegetation were analyzed. In total 156 different localities were investigated. Habitat diversity was based mainly upon the closely correlated hydrochemical variables of mineralization (hardness total and carbonate, conductivity, total value of dissolved substances), although bottom, vegetation characteristics and other factors (pH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients) were also significant. The ostracods found included 62 species in 27 genera comprising 8 cosmopolitan, 17 Holarctic, 13 Palearctic species; 21 of these species are known from central and southern Europe and adjacent areas, while 3 are characteristic for eastern Europe. The distribution of freshwater ostracod assemblages reflected the habitat and depended on water body type. Heterogeneous oxbows and temporary pools supported 37 species, while other types of pool maintained only 27–14 species. The population density of different species varied from 0.5 to more than 10 000 ind./m2. Indices of local alpha diversity were significantly correlated with the number of species and temperature and were maximal in heterogeneous habitats. The variation of population density was not connected with habitat patterns but appeared to be regulated by the biotic interactions in the community. Habitat diversity, verified by the beta-diversity indices, enabled us to find localities with a similar heterogeneity level and species richness. Beta-diversity values were independent of species number as well as abundance but a significant positive correlation (p < 0.05) was found with temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen. The degradation of freshwater environments, e.g.: eutrophication, drainage, water pollution, has led to the decline of lymnaeid species distribution. Some of them are recorded in the Red Book and Red List of species as rare, vulnerable or legally protected. The survey was carried out in Upper Silesia (Southern Poland), which is one of the biggest coal basins in the world. This region is devoid of natural water bodies; only reservoirs of an anthropogenic origin are common. Anthropogenic reservoirs, which are not very degraded, constitute important lentic habitats in Upper Silesia and they provide refuges for wildlife including rare and vulnerable molluscan species. This survey uncovered the first occurrence of Stagnicola turricula in the anthropogenic reservoirs in this area. S. turricula has been subdominant in molluscan communities. Sixteen molluscan species, including 11 gastropod and 5 bivalve species, were recorded at the sampling sites. Based on a redundancy analysis (RDA), the organic matter content in the bottom sediments and pH were the parameters most associated (statistically significant) with the distribution of molluscan species including S. turricula.  相似文献

池塘等小型水体在全球碳循环中发挥着重要作用,是碳排放的热区,但是对池塘碳埋藏速率认识相对匮乏,限制了全面认识池塘在流域碳传输中的功能。为探究池塘沉积物有机碳埋藏速率及其影响因素,选取重庆市北碚区柳荫镇的11个池塘为研究对象,于2022年7月对池塘沉积物进行采样,分析了池塘沉积物基本理化性质,估算出池塘沉积物有机碳埋藏量和埋藏速率,并分析了池塘因素和流域因素对池塘沉积物有机碳埋藏速率的影响。结果显示:(1)沉积物总有机碳(TOC, Total Organic Carbon)含量在1.03%—3.51%之间变化,总体呈现随深度增加而逐渐降低的趋势;(2)有机碳埋藏速率均值为194.60 g m-2 a-1,范围区间为142.76—293.32 g m-2 a-1,略高于其他池塘的类似研究结果;(3)沉积物TOC含量与总氮(TN, Total Nitrogen)含量呈显著正相关(P<0.01),与流域中林地面积占比呈显著正相关(P<0.05),与旱地面积占比呈显著负相关(P<0.05),...  相似文献

Plant communities were examined in ponds in Brittany (north-west France) and then classified into six types reflecting different trophic levels: oligotrophic, oligodystrophic, mesotrophic, meso-dystrophic, meso-eutrophic an eutrophic. In 45 of these ponds, aquatic snails were sampled in order to determine the relationship between the gastropod species richness and the water trophic levels as indicated by plant community types. The second aim of this study was to determine whether some gastropod species were characteristic of a particular trophic level. The number of plant communities in the ponds was also taken into consideration.A trophic gradient was found along the F1 axis on the principal plane of the correspondence analyses. The species richnesses low or zero and especially the lymneid, Lymnaea glabra were close to the oligo-dystrophic and oligotrophic communities. In contrast, the highest numbers of snail species (5 and above) were found in the most eutrophic ponds where Hippeutis complanatus, Planorbis planorbis, Lymnaea stagnalis and Planorbarius corneus were particularly common. The latter species inhabited the ponds including on average the greatest number of macrophyte communities but no significant differences were found between snail species. The ponds which contained the greatest numbers of plant communities included the richest gastropod communities (7 and more) but also the poorest ones (0 or 1 species). The long-term (1986-2005) gamma-activity dynamics in dominating zoobenthos species and the bottom sediments in the inlet of Pripyat river and the non-flowing Perstok lake within the Chernobyl alienation zone was determined. Immediately after the accident (1986-1987) zoonehthos y-activity achieved the maximal values (up to 300-1100 kBq/kg) and after that began to decline steadily due to natural decay of man-caused radionuclides of "Chernobyl origin". Up to summer 2005 gastropod mollusks gamma-activity (Lymnaea stagnalis, Viviparus viviparus) approached to the natural level (less than 6 Bq/kg) in the inlet of Pripyat river, but it remained at the very high level up to 979-1638 Bq/kg in the Perstok lake. The positive correlation between gamma-activity of mollusks and bottom sediments has been established. In turn, the long-term variations of atmospheric precipitate amounts which wash down radionuclides from surrounding territories to water bodies and the amounts of annual flow of the Pripyat river as well as shoreline position changes in water bodies within the Chernobyl alienation zone influence on these values too.  相似文献

The species diversity and distribution of rotifers between different habitats (elodeids, helophytes and open water) of 34 field and 31 forest ponds, differing in regard to origin, size, depth, macrophyte cover, overshading and the presence of fish were examined (N = 381). 197 taxa were found in both types of ponds with 32 species being rare, endangered or new to Polish fauna. The species composition and Shannon‐Wiener index distribution reflected heterogeinity of the habitats, while rotifer mean densities revealed a reverse pattern in both types of water bodies. The great variability of limnological features contributed to a lack of significant differences in rotifer abundance between both types of water bodies. Although some rotifers preferred one specific type of water body (forest vs. field), the type of habitat was a much stronger predictor of their distribution, which reflects a necessity to examine ponds in relation to their microhabitats created by various macrophytes. Rotifers revealed a strict division into two groups – of pelagic origin (e.g., Polyarthra vulgaris), which were attributed to the open water and helophytes, and of littoral origin (e.g., Lepadella patella), which were associated with elodeids, biomass of a plant habitat and a lack of fish. The selective choice of the most complex habitat (elodeids) by only littoral species suggests the weak impact of fish in the studied ponds and the most advantageous conditions for littoral rotifers among such a habitat. The objectives of the present survey were to formulate a zoocenological analysis of the gastropod communities in clay pit ponds, as well as to determine the relationships between the gastropods and their environments, and to evaluate the water habitats in terms of their ecological-conservation value. The physical and chemical parameters of water, gastropod species and macrophytes occurring in the ponds indicate mesotrophic conditions. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) reveals a correlation between gastropod density and nitrates, a correlation between gastropod density and alkalinity, and additionally shows a correlation between gastropod density and chlorides. The pond surface area, nitrates, chlorides concentrate, alkalinity, and substratum have all affected these gastropod communities. The occurrence of the first permanent population of Ferrissia clessiniana (Jickeli, 1882) was recorded in Poland. Valvata naticina Menke 1845 has become a critically rare species (CR) due to the pollution of water environments. Five other species, e.g. Anisus vorticulus (Troschel, 1834) and Planorbis carinatus O.F. Müller, 1774 are recorded on the Polish Red List of Species. The clay pit ponds of the Ciechanowska Upland, because of their distinctive environmental features, provide a refuge where a number of rare, threatened and alien gastropod species live.  相似文献

Nutrient-rich water bodies are usually expected to host low species richness at the local scale (water body). Nevertheless, they can support a diverse and sometimes unique biodiversity when diversity is considered at a regional scale. This discrepancy between the two scales is well documented for natural water bodies, but little is known about biodiversity of artificial water bodies, like fish ponds. We hypothesise that nutrient-rich water bodies can collectively host high species richness at the regional scale. Thus, these are important ecosystems for the regional conservation of biodiversity. We investigated 84 fish ponds in the Dombes region, France, with five taxonomic groups: macrophytes, phytoplankton, macroinvertebrates, dragonflies, and amphibians. Species richness patterns were determined for α- (single pond), β- (between ponds), and γ- (regional pond network) levels. For most studied species groups, richness per fish pond and at the regional level proved to be relatively high in comparison with natural ponds in other landscapes. Contribution of α-diversity to regional diversity was highest for dragonflies with 41 %, and lowest for amphibians and macrophytes with 16 and 18 %, respectively. For macroinvertebrate families and phytoplankton genera it was intermediate. Contribution of β-diversity to regional diversity was similar for all species groups with 22–25 %. Furthermore, some ponds hosted a large number of less frequent species and some endangered species, indicating that the conservation of biodiversity of fish ponds must be established at a regional scale.  相似文献

Tarebia granifera is a freshwater/estuarine gastropod invading many tropical and sub-tropical areas around the world. This snail is native to southeast Asia and was accidentally introduced into South Africa during the last decade. The current study investigated shallow-water benthic assemblages of different invaded and uninvaded localities across locations spanning a large range of environmental conditions in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Using a correlation-based approach, we found that native benthic assemblages were more closely associated with environmental conditions than with densities of T. granifera. However, there were significant negative correlations between T. granifera abundance and Shannon Diversity at two of the invaded locations. This alien species has successfully invaded, and become dominant in, different types of water bodies with different assemblage compositions and physico-chemical characteristics, ranging from freshwater ponds to saline estuaries and lakes. The current data set is presented as an essential baseline for future studies. It is recommended that future work focuses on specific localities, in order to determine if changes in diversity are driven by non-native species or by other disturbances (e.g., climate change).  相似文献

Disused tin-mining ponds make up a significant amount of water bodies in Malaysia particularly at the Kinta Valley in the state of Perak where tin-mining activities were the most extensive, and these abundantly available water sources are widely used in the field of aquaculture and agriculture. However, the natural ecology and physicochemical conditions of these ponds, many of which have been altered due to secondary post-mining activities, remains to be explored. As ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) are directly related to the nutrient cycles of aquatic environments and are useful bioindicators of environmental variations, the focus of this study was to identify AOBs associated with disused tin-mining ponds that have a history of different secondary activities in comparison to ponds which were left untouched and remained as part of the landscape. The 16S rDNA gene was used to detect AOBs in the sediment and water sampled from the three types of disused mining ponds, namely ponds without secondary activity, ponds that were used for lotus cultivation and post-aquaculture ponds. When the varying pond types were compared with the sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the AOB clone libraries, both Nitrosomonas and Nitrosospira-like AOB were detected though Nitrosospira spp. was seen to be the most ubiquitous AOB as it was present in all ponds types. However, AOBs were not detected in the sediments of idle ponds. Based on rarefaction analysis and diversity indices, the disused mining pond with lotus culture indicated the highest richness of AOBs. Canonical correspondence analysis indicated that among the physicochemical properties of the pond sites, TAN and nitrite were shown to be the main factors that influenced the community structure of AOBs in these disused tin-mining ponds.  相似文献

A study of epiphytic gastropods associated with two submerged macrophytes (Myriophyllum spicatum and Vallisneria americana) was conducted at a soft and at a hard water site in the St. Lawrence River during two non-consecutive years in order to compare effects of macrophyte species and biomass, site and year in gastropod community structure. There was no effect of macrophyte species on total gastropod abundance nor on gastropod diversity, and few gastropod species showed a marked preference for either macrophyte species. Inter-site and inter-annual variations in diversity, total gastropod abundance and gastropod community structure were greater than variations among macrophytes. However, analysis of variations of epiphytic gastropod communities in one of the two sites shows that abiotic factors are important in explaining epiphytic gastropod distribution. Our results and results of other studies on gastropod population dynamics in the St. Lawrence River indicate that intra- and interspecific competition between gastropods is important on macrophytes and that they must be carefully considered in order to understand epiphytic community structure and population dynamics.  相似文献

Littoral zones of small water bodies are spatially heterogeneous habitats, harbouring diverse biotic communities. Despite this apparent heterogeneity, many studies have stressed the importance of water chemistry in determining the structure of littoral macroinvertebrate assemblages. The purpose of this study was to consider the relative importance of several spatial and water chemistry variables in explaining the patterns in the structure of macroinvertebrate assemblages in 21 lentic water bodies in northeastern Finland. Water bodies were selected to represent various habitat conditions ranging from small permanent bog ponds to small forest lakes. According to canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), the most important environmental factors related to assemblage composition were water body area, moss cover, total nitrogen and water hardness. In general, species composition in small bog ponds tended to differ from that in larger lakes with forested shoreline. Total species richness was best explained by a composite variable (PCA) describing physical habitat heterogeneity, species richness being lowest in small bog lakes with simple bottom structure and low amount of aquatic plants. Species numbers in dominant functional feeding groups were related to different environmental factors. Shredder species richness was best explained by a regression model incorporating total nitrogen and the amount of organic matter, both of which were negatively related to the number of shredder species. The number of gatherer species increased with mean substratum particle size. Scraper species richness was negatively affected by the abundance of detritus and positively affected by depth, and a model including both variables explained most of the variation. Variation in the number of predatory species was best explained by a regression model including moss cover and lake area.  相似文献

Aquatic macrophyte species richness (SR) was examined at 430 sites in the central Canadian region in relation to water body type, bottom substrate and 8 water chemistry parameters. SR was highest in rivers and lakes, intermediate in creeks, and lowest in ponds. The highest values occurred where granitic bedrock, highly organic substrates or sand predominated. SR was significantly inversely correlated in the study area as a whole with 7 of the water chemistry parameters; of these, total alkalinity was the most important. However, the relative importance of the respective parameters differed for various water body types. The relationship between SR and phosphorus was positive in ponds, but negative for all other water body types. Stepwise sultiple regression analysis identified phosphorus, total alkalinity and dissolved organic matter as important factors in ponds; sulphate, total alkalinity and chloride in lakes, and sulphate and phosphorus in lotic habitats. Log transformations improved the correlations for some variables. However, the water chemistry parameters examined accounted for less than half of the total variability in SR. Apparently SR depends on many different factors, including surface areaand bottom type, whose relative contributions vary with situation.  相似文献

为了解岛礁水域沙地生境的鱼类群落结构特征,评估该生境对鱼类资源养护的潜在作用,于2009年采用多网目组合刺网对枸杞岛潮下带沙质区域进行了逐月采样,同步设置岩礁为对照生境.应用α和β多样性指数结合相对重要性指数、相对渔获率、ABC曲线和聚类排序方法对两种生境中的鱼类组成、多样性变化和群落格局与变化进行了全面探讨.全年在沙地和岩礁生境共采集鱼类63种,隶属11目38科56属,2种生境各自出现的鱼类皆为46种.受暖水种频繁出现在沙地生境的影响,潮下带沙质区域鱼类区系比岩礁生境略显丰富,且春夏季的渔获量普遍高于岩礁生境;由于种类组成均匀度较低,沙地生境各季节的α多样性普遍较低,夏季显著低于岩礁生境.日本须鳎是沙地生境的指示种,为早春、夏末和秋冬季沙地底层优势鱼种.5-7月鳀、多数月份鲻和10月份鳗鲇等种类对沙地生境的阶段性利用,使其形成了区别于以趋礁性鱼类为优势类群的岩礁生境的群落格局和季节动态.沙地是多种鱼类幼鱼阶段的庇护所和饵料场,是鲆鲽类的良好栖息地.沙地生境在维持鱼类区系和养护鱼类资源方面具有重要作用.  相似文献

Environmental pollution caused by the disposal of chemicals or toxins into the environment represent a great threat to amphibians. In this study, it was evaluated which environmental factors of ponds under the influence of coal-mining influence the composition of anuran species. For this purpose, anuran samples were performed in ponds in coal extraction areas in southern Brazil. Physical and chemical characteristics of water, sediment and structural characteristics of the ponds were determined. The content of copper in the sediments of the ponds was the main variable to explain the composition of pond species. Besides copper, it is evident the relevance of number of vegetation strata at pond border and pond area on the composition of anurans. It is shown that the composition of species in ponds under the influence of mineral coal mining activity may be a result of historical perturbations, remaining only the most tolerant towards colonization. From the results obtained in this work it can be suggested that there is a synergistic interaction between environmental factors and the coal mining effects on the anurans fauna of impacted ponds. Thus, efforts should be directed to elucidate the effects of pollutants exposure levels on the species, the understanding of sub-lethal and lethal effects of each pollutant on each species, as well as how local populations can be maintained through recruiting rates of larvae and anurans of the impacted ponds.  相似文献

Data on the content of plant pigments in the bottom sediments (BSs) of the water bodies of Central and South Vietnam are given for the first time. The average concentration of chlorophyll a and phaeopigments (Chl + Ph) in total reaches up to 3.9 μg/g dry matter in rivers, 5.6 in ponds, 13.8 in sand quarries, 56.8 in reservoirs, and 245 in lakes. Most frequently, the concentrations of Chl + Ph in the coastal zones of watercourses and water bodies fall in the oligotrophic category, and those in the central areas are in the hypertrophic category. Relationships between concentrations of Chl + Ph and water depth, content of oxygen near the bottom, moisture content, volumetric mass, and concentrations of organic matter (OM) in the BSs are found. The content of sedimentary pigments in tropical waters of Vietnam is similar to that in freshwater ecosystems of temperate latitudes, despite the substantial differences of climatic zones in temperature and light regimes.  相似文献

Fifty-two species and intraspecific taxa of testate amoebae have been detected in 24 different habitats in the Belaya River basin (Northwestern Caucasus). Four types of communities are distinguished which differ in the composition of the complex of dominating species: freshwater species from bottom sediments in water bodies and water courses, soil-dwelling species from inundated parts of floodplains, a mixture of soildwelling and freshwater species in different littoral biotopes, and eurybiontic species in moss hummocks along the banks.  相似文献
