Host selection patterns in insects breeding in bracket fungi   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Abstract.  1. Fungivorous insects are generally viewed as polyphagous, largely because most fungal fruiting bodies constitute an unpredictable resource. To examine the validity of this hypothesis, and degree of phylogenetic relatedness between the preferred hosts of the insects, host selection in the insect fauna of bracket fungi was studied, using data obtained both from the field and the literature.
2. More than half (53%) of the insect species breeding in them appeared to be monophagous.
3. Modern phylogenies explained the host selection patterns better than older classifications, since non-monophagous species of beetles frequently used hosts that are closely related to each other.
4. The hypothesis that polyphagous species use more heavily decayed fruiting bodies than monophagous species was verified for insects breeding in Fomes fomentarius . The results indicate that the chemical composition of the fungi influences host selection.
5. It is suggested that fruiting bodies of bracket fungi differ from most other fungi in that their occurrence is more predictable. Therefore, the primary colonising fungivores generally attack only one host species, or a few hosts that are closely phylogenetically related. Polyphagous species generally colonise fruiting bodies after they have reached a certain stage of decay, thus escaping their chemical defence.  相似文献

  • 1 To understand the nature of male aggregations in Drosophila mycetophaga, data were collected on male and female distribution and male spacing on bracket fungi used as mating arenas in cool rainforests of south-eastern Australia.
  • 2 Both males and females appeared to be aggregated among bracket fungi that were used as mating arenas. Females were associated with large male aggregations. The probability of a fungus being occupied increased with its area. However, a multiple Poisson regression analysis suggested that fungus area did not affect female distribution when male number was controlled.
  • 3 The presence of female breeding and feeding resources did not determine where aggregations were formed, because there were aggregations on fungi without resources, and fungi with resources were not used more often than those without them.
  • 4 D.mycetophaga males did not select and defend territories within bracket fungi, and did not determine female access to areas. However, males were more evenly spaced than expected on the basis of a random distribution, suggesting that males kept apart from each other.
  • 5 The distribution of the different sexes and male spacing pattern supports the interpretation that D.mycetophaga has a lek mating system.

Bracket fungi are seen mainly as the cause of economic losses in forestry, and their role as creators of biodiversity is relatively poorly understood. The aim of the study was defining the manner in which the degree of decay (DD) of the fruiting bodies determines the character of the invertebrate assemblages colonising them. The effect of this group of fungi on the modification of biodiversity of invertebrates (Aranae, Opiliones, Pseudoscorpionida, two groups of mites—Mesostigmata and Oribatida, and Collembola and Insecta) was investigated by analyzing 100 fruiting bodies of 10 species of bracket fungi divided into four DD classes. The material was collected at Białowieża National Park, which is considered to be the largest area of natural forests in the North European Plain. 16 068 invertebrate individuals classified into 224 species were obtained. Oribatid mites (12 543 individuals) constituted the largest group of individuals, which were classified into 115 species with the most numerous Carabodes femoralis (8,811 individuals). Representatives of this group of mites have been reported previously in the publications on bracket fungi; however, the contributions of Oribatida and other groups of invertebrates were not broadly compared. Moreover, the species such as Hoploseius mariae and H. oblongus, which were predominantly found in fruiting bodies of bracket fungi, have also been discerned. The invertebrate fauna differs depending on DD of the samples: In the more decayed samples, a higher number of both individuals and species were recorded compared to the samples with lower DDs; however, this trend proved to be nonlinear. The DCA and cluster analysis revealed a similarity of the invertebrate assemblages from the 2 DD and 4 DD samples. They also indicated that the group 3 DD differed the most from all the other samples. The indicator species analysis identified species characteristic to individual DDs: For group 1 DD, it was, for example, Hoploseius oblongus; for 2 DD—Orchesella bifasciata; and for 3 DD—Chernes cimicoides, while for 4 DD—Dinychus perforatus.  相似文献

1. This paper describes the structure of the insect communities inhabiting two old‐growth forest specialist bracket fungi, Amylocystis lapponica and Fomitopsis rosea. To study the consequences of old‐growth forest fragmentation on community structure, non‐fragmented and fragmented forest areas in eastern and southern Finland were compared. 2. Both fungal species are inhabited by more than 50 insect species. The most abundant species in the A. lapponica community is a melandryid beetle Hallomenus sp., and in the F. rosea community a tineid moth Agnathosia mendicella. The occurrence of several nationally or globally rare species underscores the importance of specific insect microhabitats, such as the specialist fungi A. lapponica and F. rosea, for the persistence of specialised insects in old‐growth forests. 3. The species composition in both fungal species differs greatly from each other. The food webs are characterised by one numerically dominant host‐specific primary fungivore, which implies that fungivorous species inhabiting bracket fungi may be more specialised on a particular host than is generally thought. 4. The community structure was the same in the highly fragmented and in the non‐fragmented study areas, probably because fragmentation has occurred relatively recently.  相似文献

Abstract. 1. The mycophagous Drosophilidae flies in eastern North America display a range of ecological responses to their fungal trophic resources. Some ( Drosophilu duncani Sturtevant, and two species labelled as Mycodrosophila cluytonae Wheeler and Takada) specialize on the bracket fungi of the family Polyporaceae. Other species ( Drosophila falleni Wheeler, D.recens Wheeler, D.putridu Sturtevant and D.tripunctuta Loew) are broad generalists, non-selectively consuming a diverse array of Basidioniycete mushrooms. D.restaceu von Roser and D.ordinuria Coquillett utilize a broad subset of the Basidio-mycetes, while M.dimidiata hew feeds on some Basidioniycetes, including a variety of Clavariaceae (coral fungi) and Heterobasidiomycetes (jelly fungi) not commonly used by other flies, and Ascomycetes (cup fungi).
2. Unlike some phytophagous insects, host chemistry seems to have little effect on host preferences. The mycophagous drosophilids do not avoid fungi thought to be toxic or undigestible to other Diptera.
3. Resource predictability appears to delimit trophic niches in the mycophagous guild. The average duration of individual host mushroom caps is negatively correlated with three measures of trophic niche breadth. Specialist fly species utilize long-lasting resources, while more generalized mycophagous species include progressively ephemeral fungi in their diets.  相似文献

Although biodiversity in nature is of fundamental importance because it improves the sustainability of ecosystems, communities of microscopic organisms are generally excluded from conservation targets for biodiversity. Here, I hypothesize that mushroom mite species richness is correlated with both spatial (i.e., mushroom size) and temporal (i.e., longevity of fruiting bodies) resource availability. I collected fruiting bodies in an old-growth forest over 4 years to collect mites and insects inhabiting the mushrooms. Mites were collected from 47 % of the fruiting bodies and approximately 60 % of the mite species were collected only once. Mite species richness was significantly correlated with the availability of long-lasting fruiting bodies. For example, bracket fungi contained more mite species than ephemeral fruiting bodies. Insect presence was also correlated with mushroom mite richness, probably as phoretic hosts and food resources for predacious mites. On the other hand, mushroom size seemed to be less important; small fruiting bodies sometimes harbored several mite species. Although mite species richness was correlated with mushroom species richness, mushroom specificity by mites was not clear except for a preference for long-lasting fruiting bodies. Therefore, I suggest that a constant supply of coarse woody debris is crucial for maintaining preferred resources for mushroom mites (e.g., bracket fungi) and their associated insects (mycophilous and possibly saproxylic insects).  相似文献

The results of a 20-year study of the spatial distribution of clavarioid mycobiota in the West Siberian Plain (WSP) are discussed. The species structure has been studied on two scales: regional (an area of 100000 km2) and local (100 km2). In the studied area, 121 species of clavarioid fungi are found. The patterns of spatial variability of species diversity on the plain are revealed. On the regional scale, the maximum species richness of fungi is observed in hemiboreal forests (104 species); on the local scale it ranges from the middle boreal to hemiboreal (54.3–54.5 species). With the increasing pessimality of the hydrothermal regime, the number of species decreases sharply on both scales in the direction of the tundra and steppes. The study of the distribution of diversity among the localities reveals changes not only along the latitudinal gradient, but also in the longitude sectors: in the forest zone, the richest localities are located on the western and eastern edges of the plain, while in the extensive marshy areas in the center the number of species is lower (p < 0.05). A map of the spatial distribution of species diversity for the local scale is constructed. The correspondence of the spatial distribution of the studied fungi group to a global latitudinal gradient is discussed. The main abiotic factors forming a variety of the studied group of fungi in the region are revealed.  相似文献

Most plant species in mixed grassland vegetation are colonized by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. Previous studies have reported differences in host preferences among AM fungi, although the fungi are known to lack host specificity. In the present study, the distribution of phylogenetic groups of AM fungi belonging to a clade of Glomus species was studied in five plant species from a coastal grassland in Denmark. The occurrence of the fungi was determined by PCR analyses of fungal large subunit ribosomal DNA sequences amplified from root fragments using a specific primer set. The results showed that the dominant Glomus species were able to colonize all the studied plant species, supporting the view that the AM fungi represent a large underground interconnecting mycelial network.  相似文献

Resupinate thelephoroid fungi (hereafter called tomentelloid fungi) have a world-wide distribution and comprise approximately 70 basidiomycete species with inconspicuous, resupinate sporocarps. It is only recently that their ability to form ectomycorrhizas (EM) has been realized, so their distribution, abundance and significance as mycobionts in forest ecosystems is still largely unexplored. In order to provide baseline data for future ecological studies of tomentelloid fungi, we explored their presence and abundance in nine Swedish boreal forests in which the EM communities had been analysed. Phylogenetic analyses were used to compare the internal transcribed spacer of nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS rDNA) sequence data obtained from mycobionts on single ectomycorrhizal tips with that obtained from sporocarps of identified tomentelloid fungi. Five species of Tomentella and one species of Pseudotomentella were identified as ectomycorrhizal fungi. The symbiotic nature of Tomentella bryophila, T. stuposa, T. badia and T. atramentaria is demonstrated for the first time. T. stuposa and Pseudotomentella tristis were the most commonly encountered tomentelloid fungi, with the other species, including T. sublilacina, only being recorded from single stands. Overall, tomentelloid fungi were found in five of the studies, colonizing between 1 and 8% of the mycorrhizal root tips. Two of the five sites supported several tomentelloid species. Tomentelloid fungi appear to be relatively common ectomycorrhizal symbionts with a wide distribution in Swedish coniferous forests. The results are in accordance with accumulating data that fungal species which lack conspicuous sporocarps may be of considerable importance in EM communities.  相似文献

If fungivorous insect diversity is maintained by host specialisation on particular fungi, it should be higher in the tropics than in temperate or boreal regions owing to high macrofungus species diversity. 2. To reveal the community and food web structure of fungivorous insects on bracket fungi, fungivorous insects were collected from 427 fruiting bodies belonging to 22 genera throughout the development and deterioration process in a 3‐ha plot of lowland dipterocarp tropical rain forest on Borneo Island. 3. Eight hundred and twenty‐nine individuals of 82 coleopteran species in 13 families from 111 fruiting bodies of 15 fungal genera were collected. Tenebrionidae and Staphylinidae were most common. Fifty‐three and 19 insect species were observed on Ganoderma and Phellinus, respectively. The numbers of insect species and individuals on a particular fungal genus were positively correlated with the abundance of that fungal genus. 4. Quantitative food web analysis revealed a high degree of specialisation at the whole‐community level. At least 65% of insect individuals were observed on Ganoderma at every stage of development and deterioration. Diverse insects coexist on one dominant fungal genus, Ganoderma, in contrast to our hypothesis. 5. The high abundance of Ganoderma fruiting bodies, which lack obvious defences against insect feeding, probably influences the bracket fungus–insect food web in this tropical rainforest.  相似文献

木腐真菌在森林生态系统中具有丰富的物种多样性, 并在倒木的降解过程中发挥重要的生态功能。针叶树是大小兴安岭森林生态系统的优势树种, 因此研究针叶树倒木木腐真菌物种多样性和影响其物种分布的相关环境因子有助于揭示大小兴安岭森林生态系统物质循环的机理。本研究收集了近16年对大小兴安岭地区冷杉属(Abies)、落叶松属(Larix)、云杉属(Picea)和松属(Pinus) 4类针叶树倒木上1,561份木腐真菌标本的采集信息, 统计了物种种类及其腐朽类型, 并选取具有代表性的地点开展木腐真菌群落多样性及其与环境因子的相关性分析。结果显示, 大小兴安岭针叶树倒木木腐真菌有166种, 隶属于70属, 其中白腐真菌有111种, 占所有种类的66.9%, 褐腐真菌为55种, 占所有种类的33.1%。在4类针叶树倒木上均能生长的真菌种类有19种, 占所有种类的11.5%, 其中柔丝干酪孔菌(Oligoporus sericeomollis)是各类倒木上木腐真菌群落中的优势种。大兴安岭地区落叶松属为优势寄主, 其倒木上生长的木腐真菌种类数和个体数在4类倒木中均为最高; 而小兴安岭地区松属倒木上木腐真菌种类数和个体数比其他3类倒木高, 是该地区的优势寄主。对6个代表性地区木腐真菌群落的研究显示, 有11种真菌在6个地区均有分布, 小兴安岭地区木腐真菌多样性普遍高于大兴安岭地区; 聚类分析显示树种比地理位置对木腐真菌物种分布的影响更大。  相似文献

The beetle fauna of 299 sporocarps of the bracket fungus Fomitopsis pinicola in a 200 ha spruce forest in southeastern Norway was investigated in relation to sporocarp, tree and forest variables. The sporocarps contained 36 species of beetles, of which six species are on the Norwegian Red List. Of 12,373 individual beetles collected, 91% were Cis glabratus. Plots of species accumulation curves suggested that there may be more than 60 beetle species present in F. pinicola in the area, but that probably all the specialist Ciidae were found. The major factor influencing beetle diversity turned out to be the level of dead wood at and in the vicinity of the sampling site, with a higher number of species per unit volume of sporocarps in areas with high levels of dead wood. There were also significantly more red-listed species in those areas. Analysing the species occurrence with stepwise logistic regression, we show preferential habitat selection of the six most abundant species of Ciidae. Conservation of beetles associated with bracket fungi using amount of dead wood as a surrogate measurement is discussed.  相似文献

东北地区木生真菌物种资源丰富, 包括了数十种林木干基腐朽病原真菌。过去对该类真菌曾进行多次调查, 获取了大量物种分布数据, 但对于非重点调查区域是否存在某种真菌物种却不明确。本文选取东北地区具有代表性的4种林木干基腐朽病原真菌, 即红缘拟层孔菌(Fomitopsis pinicola)、落叶松锈迷孔菌(Porodaedalea laricis)、桦剥管孔菌(Piptoporus betulinus)和香栓孔菌(Trametes suaveolens), 根据其地理分布数据和分布地的环境因子数据, 以最大熵模型(MaxEnt)对这些种类在东北地区可能的分布范围进行了模拟预测, 以曲线下面积(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, AUC)对模型有效性进行评价, 并对各物种的生态位进行了分析。结果显示, 以MaxEnt方法获得的各物种预测模型均获得了较高的AUC值, 分别为0.990, 0.990, 0.989和0.967, 表明4种林木干基腐朽病原真菌预测模型的有效性较高。物种分布模型涉及的环境变量对模型的贡献率显示, 最暖季降水量(Bio18)、温度的年较差(Bio7)、最干季均温(Bio9)等变量对各物种模型贡献率较高。该研究结果为预测4种病原真菌在东北地区的分布范围和科学防治该类病原真菌提供了依据。  相似文献

对中国东北地区木材腐朽菌资源研究进行了总结,给出了每种木材腐朽菌的寄主和在东北的分布。目前中国东北地区共记载木材腐朽菌504种,其中300种为多孔菌,204种为革菌,57种为林木病原菌,69种为药用菌。梨多年卧孔菌Perenniporia pyricola和北方赖特孔菌Wrightoporia borealis为新种,对它们进行了描述和绘图。对所有名称按最新命名法规(维也纳法规)进行了订正。  相似文献

If hot spots for different taxa coincide, priority-setting surveys in a region could be carried out more cheaply by focusing on indicator taxa. Several previous studies show that hot spots of different taxa rarely coincide. However, in tropical areas indicator taxa may be used in selecting complementary networks to represent biodiversity as a whole. We studied beetles (Coleoptera), Heteroptera, polypores or bracket fungi (Polyporaceae) and vascular plants of old growth boreal taiga forests. Optimal networks for Heteroptera maximized the high overall species richness of beetles and vascular plants, but these networks were least favourable options for polypores. Polypores are an important group indicating the conservation value of old growth taiga forests. Random selection provided a better option. Thus, certain groups may function as good indicators for maximizing the overall species richness of some taxonomic groups, but all taxa should be examined separately.  相似文献

Spatial distribution patterns of basidiocarps of Agaricales were studied in aCastanopsis-dominated forest in Kyoto. Sixty-seven species were recorded, of which 45 species and 99% of total dry weight were ectomycorrhizal fungi belonging to Amanitaceae, Cortinariaceae, Russulaceae, Boletaceae and Strobilomycetaceae. The data were analyzed statistically by using the m-m regression method. Three distribution patterns were recognized: aggregated, random and uniform. Although total basidiocarps were distributed randomly, basidiocarps of most species showed aggregated distributions, suggesting mycelium of ectomycorrhizal and saprotrophic fungi extend in a limited area in the soil. The degree of aggregation was different among species and this difference was suggested to reflect the difference of niche among the species.  相似文献

The pattern of incidence of keratinophilic fungi inhabiting the soil of 30 primary schools and 15 public parks in the city of Madras was studied using hair baiting technique. A total number of 31 species belonging to 15 genera were recovered, 16 of which were common to both the school and public park soil. Dermatophytes and closely related species were represented by 9 species, of which the following were the most commonly found species in soil: Chrysosporium tropicum (62.2%), C. keratinophilum (48.8%), M. gypseum (48.8%), C. pannorum (40%), T. mentagrophytes (37.7%), T. terrestre (31.1%) and C. anam. A. cuniculi (24.4%). The fungi encountered have also been discussed in relation to their global distribution. The effect of environmental fragmentation on the species distribution and frequency of horizontally transmitted endophytic fungi in Betula pubescens and Betula pendula leaves was studied in an archipelago in southwestern Finland. The study system consisted of 14 islands, ranging in size and distance to the mainland, and five mainland sites. Endophytic fungi were grown out from surface-sterilized leaves. The frequency of endophytic fungi mainly depended on the size of the island, explaining 32-35% of the variation, and the distance to the mainland explaining 29-35% of the variation. The birch trees on the largest islands near the mainland had the highest endophyte frequencies. Fusicladium betulae, Gnomonia setacea and Melanconium betulinum were the most commonly isolated fungi. Foliar endophytes of birch trees are able to disperse to fairly fragmented areas, but their frequencies seem to depend on environmental isolation and size of the island.  相似文献

The distribution of microscopic fungi in soils and surface air along some Moscow roads was studied from 1994 through 2000 at several distances (0, 5, 10, and 20 m) from the roads. Soil fungal complexes in roadside zones with different levels of pollution from automobile engines were found to differ in their composition, species structure, and biomorphology. Relatively far from the roads, the content of fungal mycelium diminished, while that of fungal spores increased. Close to the roads, fungal complexes in soil and surface air were dominated by dark melanin-containing fungi. The microscopic fungal complexes of soil and surface air along the roadsides were similar but differed in the relative abundance of some species.  相似文献

木腐真菌是一类依托倒死木生活的真菌,在森林生态系统物质循环过程中起重要作用。为了解我国热带地区木腐真菌的物种组成和分布情况,本研究选取海南尖峰岭、霸王岭、云南西双版纳为代表性研究地点,分析比较了三地点木腐真菌的物种组成、出现频率、寄主种类、生态习性等。经统计,三地点木腐真菌共有362种,其中尖峰岭222种,霸王岭200种,西双版纳119种,三地点共有种仅37个,81.08%均为常见种。尖峰岭、霸王岭属种组成较为相似,西双版纳则与上述两地存在较大差异。优势科为多孔菌科Polyporaceae和锈革菌科Hymenochaetaceae,主要为白腐真菌,占所有种类的93.92%。相比而言,尖峰岭、霸王岭的褐腐真菌数量高于西双版纳。  相似文献
