The mycelial cake of Penicillium chrysogenum, when dried and specially processed, has been found to serve as a source of protein in place of soybean meal in the diet of experimental mice. Animals were fed a control diet first, and an increase in weight proved the formulation to be satisfactory. The changeover from the control to the experimental diet was sudden, and initially caused a decrease in the weight of the experimental mice. However, at the end of a 29-day period, the experimental mice showed increases in weight comparable to those of the control animals. This supports the view that dried mycelium can be substituted as a protein source for soybean meal, provided it is made more palatable and less disagreeable in odor.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to measure the effects of dietary tyrosine added to fish protein and peanut meal on plasma cholesterol and plasma thyroid hormone levels in the rat. These dietary proteins were chosen because they contain similar amounts of tyrosine but release it at different rates during enzymatic hydrolysis. Casein was chosen as the reference protein. Supplementation was used to obtain tyrosine levels similar to that of casein. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed cholesterol-enriched diets containing 15% protein. After 3 weeks of experimental feeding, total postprandial plasma cholesterol was similar in the casein and peanut meal groups and significantly lower in the fish group. When added to the fish diet, tyrosine caused an increase in plasma cholesterol to a level similar to that of the casein group, whereas supplementation had no effect on plasma cholesterol of rats fed the peanut meal diet. The effects of dietary proteins or of tyrosine supplementation on cholesterol levels of the (density less than 1.006 g/mL) lipoprotein fraction were comparable, but not all significant, to those observed on total plasma cholesterol. In addition, casein and fish diets induced significantly higher levels of plasma triiodothyronine (T3) and lower levels of plasma thyroxine (T4) than did the peanut meal diet. However, the addition of tyrosine to the fish or the peanut meal diet did not modify the plasma thyroid hormone levels.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the use of sorghum, cottonseed meal and millet in broiler diets and their interaction when they are used simultaneously. In Experiment 1, a corn-soybean meal control diet was compared with eight experimental treatments based on low tannin sorghum (S30, S45 and S60), cottonseed meal (CM15, CM40) or both ingredients included in the same diet (S30/CM40, S45/CM25 and S60CM15). Results showed that BW gain was not affected by the inclusion of sorghum or cottonseed meal. However, feed intake tended to be affected by the cereal type with the highest values with sorghum-based diets. Feed conversion ratio increased (P<0.001) with sorghum-based diets compared with the control diet, whereas a combination of cottonseed meal and sorghum in the same diet did not affect the feed conversion ratio. Significant differences (P<0.001) were observed in apparent ileal digestibility (%) of protein and energy with the cottonseed meal and sorghum/cottonseed meal-based diets having lower protein and energy digestibility compared with corn-based diets. In Experiment 2, a control diet was compared with six diets in which corn was substituted at 60%, 80% or 100% by either sorghum or millet and other three diets with simultaneous inclusion of these two ingredients (S30/M30, S40/M40, S50/M50). Single or combined inclusion of sorghum and millet resulted in similar feed intake and growth performance as the control diet. Apparent ileal digestibility of protein and energy was higher with millet-based diets (P<0.001). Total tract digestibility of protein in sorghum and millet-based diets tended to decrease linearly with the increasing level of substitution. Sorghum-based diets resulted in lower total tract digestibility of fat compared with millet and sorghum/millet-based diets (P<0.001). Higher total tract digestibility of starch were obtained with the control diet and millet-based diets compared with the sorghum-based treatments. Results of the two experiments suggest that broiler growth performance was not affected by the dietary level of sorghum, millet or cottonseed meal. Nutrient digestion can, however, be affected by these feed ingredients.  相似文献

Summary The production of protease and mycelium byNeurospora sitophila cultured on solid and liquid potato dextrose media was studied. Maximal activity of protease extracted from 4-day-old cultures occurred at pH 6.5 when an unfractionated peanut (groundnut) protein substrate was used. The greatest protease activity and mycelium production occurred during the first day of the 4-day test period. Potato dextrose media containing more than 0.2 M NaCl resulted in decreased protease and mycelium production, while tapioca starch was without affect at concentrations up to 1.4%. Addition of up to 0.3 M sucrose to growth media greatly stimulated protease production and mycelial growth. Maximal proteolytic activity was observed in extracts from mycelium cultured in potato dextrose media adjusted from pH 6.0 to 7.5. Activity was greater when soluble peanut protein was used as a substrate, compared to unfractionated or globulin protein substrates.  相似文献

Formulating rations with high energy and protein feeds such as cassava and locally sourced protein meals is an important strategy to increase live weight gain (LWG) of crossbred bulls in Indonesia. Current systems of production for Indonesian smallholders fatten bulls using cut and carry. Formulating a diet for an optimal combination of available feeds will increase production and potential profitability for smallholders. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of using cassava meal in the diet at levels of 70C, 60C, 50C, 40C and 30C% (with most of the remainder being the protein meals) on the LWG of Limousin × Ongole bulls so as to determine the optimum combination of cassava meal and protein meals for LWG. Thirty bulls were allocated in a completely randomized block design with 6 blocks based on initial live weight (LW) and 5 treatments based on level of cassava meal. The combination of cassava meal (with 2% urea) and protein meals significantly affected LWG with the highest (1.35 kg/day) recorded at 40C (40% cassava meal, 40% protein meals and 20% maize stover). The LWG and nutrient intake increased curvilinearly with decreasing cassava meal and increasing protein meals (P < 0.05). Measured cassava meal inclusion in the final ration as a consequence of the changes in intake was 60, 56, 47, 37 and 28% for the designated 70C, 60C, 50C, 40C and 30C treatments, respectively. Dry matter intake reached 96 g/kg0.75 per day or equal to 2.24% LW at this 40% level of inclusion. At the 70C treatment with 60% cassava meal and 9% protein meals, DM digestibility (69.1%) was lowest and that value increased as the proportion of cassava meal decreased and was highest at the 40C treatment (75.8%). Feed treatments significantly affected rumen pH, ammonia N (NH3N) and volatile fatty acid concentrations (P < 0.05). There was no significant effect on protozoal population (P > 0.05). Rumen pH ranged from 6.3 to 6.9. It was concluded that a combination of 40% dried cassava meal and 40% protein meals with roughage (20%) maximized intake and LWG and beyond that level of cassava meal inclusion, LWG and intake decreased markedly.  相似文献

A 12-week long feeding experiment was initiated to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation of red algae, Gracilaria arcuata, on the growth performance, feed utilization and body composition of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758). The fish were fed with an algae-free control diet (C) and three experimental diets which replaced conventional fish meal with varying levels of dried G. arcuata (20%, 40% and 60%, represented as G20, G40 and G60, respectively). The growth parameters of final weight (FW), weight gain (WG), percentage of weight gain (WG%), daily growth rate (DGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) were significantly reduced (P < 0.05) at all levels of algae incorporation compared to the control diet. Moreover, the negative impact of Gracilaria meal on the growth performance of Nile tilapia increased as the proportion of algae in the diet increased, with fish on diet G20 exhibiting a significantly higher growth performance than the fish on either of the G40 and G60 diets. On the other hand, the feed utilization parameters feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) did not show significant differences between the fish in the control group and those on diet G20, although poorer FCR and PER outcomes were achieved in the case of fish on diet G60. The content of moisture, protein and ash in muscle and carcass increased as the proportion of Gracilaria meal in the diets increased, but the reverse was true for lipid level. These results indicate that incorporation of less than 20% red algae, Gracilaria arcuata, could be feasible in the diet of Nile tilapia and further studies are recommended to optimize the level of algae to improve growth performance.  相似文献

The facultative autotrophic H2-oxidising bacterium Alcaligenes eutrophus strain H 16 (mutant lacking PHB = poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid) is a potential source of single-cell protein. As compared to soya bean protein, A. eutrophus is more adequate in nearly all amino acids (expressed as g/16 g non-nucleic acid-N) essential for the growth of poultry. The relatively high values for methionine and lysine (2.5 g and 7.5 g/16 g non-nucleic acid-N, respectively) have to be emphasized. The present study was designed to investigate the N-utilisation of a PHB-free mutant of A. eutrophus grown under autotrophic conditions when given at increasing levels in broiler diets. The influence of bacterial-N on the distribution of excreted nitrogen in uric acid, urea and ammonia was examined in metabolic studies. For determination of apparent N-digestibility, faecal and urinary nitrogen were separated chemically. The dietary protein was replaced by the bacterial dry matter (on the basis of its content of non-nucleic acid-N) at levels of 15, 30, 45 and 61.7% at the expense of soya bean meal. At a level of 45% or more of the protein of the diet replaced by the bacterial strain, values for apparent N-digestibility and N-retention decreased slightly. The excreted uric acid-N (g per g of N ingested) was not influenced by the bacterial N intake. The excretion of ammonia-N increased with increasing dietary levels of bacterial-N while the output of urea-N was not clearly influenced. From the N-balance data it is concluded that replacement of soya bean meal by the bacterial matter (autotrophically grown A. eutrophus) may be recommended up to 30% of the dietary protein on the basis of non-nucleic acid-N, and should not exceed a level of 45%.  相似文献

Porphyra dioica meal was added at levels of 5, 10 and 15% to a diet for rainbow trout formulated to be isonitrogenous and isolipidic. The control diet was a commercial trout diet without seaweed meal. The experimental groups were fed in triplicate for 12.5 weeks, during which fish weight increased on average from 107–261 g. Seaweed meal inclusion did not affect significantly weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR), feed efficiency (FE), protein efficiency ratio (PER) and apparent digestibility coefficient of the dry matter (ADCdm) for any of the diets. Voluntary feed intake (VFI) increased for all seaweed diets compared to the control diet but not significantly (P?>?0.05). Final weight (FW) was significantly smaller for the 15% P. dioica inclusion and hepatosomatic index (HSI) for the 10% and 15% inclusion. Carcass protein content increased for all three experimental diets, and was significantly higher for the diet with 10% seaweed inclusion. Rainbow trout fed with Porphyra meal presented a dark orange pigmentation of the flesh at the end of the trial, compared to the whitish color from the control fish. These results suggest that P. dioica can effectively be included in diets for rainbow trout up to 10% without significant negative effects on weight gain and growth performance. The pigmentation effect of the fish flesh by adding P. dioica meal to the feed is of a considerable interest to the organic salmon-farming industry.  相似文献

To further understand the contribution of feedstuff ingredients to gut health in swine, gut histology and intestinal bacterial profiles associated with the use of two high-quality protein sources, microbially enhanced soybean meal (MSBM) and Menhaden fishmeal (FM) were assessed. Weaned pigs were fed one of three experimental diets: (1) basic diet containing corn and soybean meal (Negative Control (NEG)), (2) basic diet + fishmeal (FM; Positive Control (POS)) and (3) basic diet + MSBM (MSBM). Phase I POS and MSBM diets (d 0 to d 7 post-wean) included FM or MSBM at 7.5%, while Phase II POS and MSBM diets (d 8 to d 21) included FM or MSBM at 5.0%. Gastrointestinal tissue and ileal digesta were collected from euthanised pigs at d 21 (eight pigs/diet) to assess gut histology and intestinal bacterial profiles, respectively. Data were analysed using Proc Mixed in SAS, with pig as the experimental unit and pig (treatment) as the random effect. Histological and immunohistochemical analyses of stomach and small intestinal tissue using haematoxylin–eosin, Periodic Acid Schiff/Alcian blue and inflammatory cell staining did not reveal detectable differences in host response to dietary treatment. Ileal bacterial composition profiles were obtained from next-generation sequencing of PCR generated amplicons targeting the V1 to V3 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. Lactobacillus-affiliated sequences were found to be the most highly represented across treatments, with an average relative abundance of 64.0%, 59.9% and 41.80% in samples from pigs fed the NEG, POS and MSBM diets, respectively. Accordingly, the three most abundant Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) were affiliated to Lactobacillus, showing a distinct abundance pattern relative to dietary treatment. One OTU (SD_Ssd_00001), most closely related to Lactobacillus amylovorus, was found to be more abundant in NEG and POS samples compared to MSBM (23.5% and 35.0% v. 9.2%). Another OTU (SD_Ssd_00002), closely related to Lactobacillus johnsonii, was more highly represented in POS and MSBM samples compared to NEG (14.0% and 15.8% v. 0.1%). Finally, OTU Sd_Ssd-00011, highest sequence identity to Lactobacillus delbrueckii, was found in highest abundance in ileal samples from MSBM-fed pigs (1.9% and 3.3% v. 11.3, in POS, NEG and MSBM, respectively). There was no effect of protein source on bacterial taxa to the genus level or diversity based on principal component analysis. Dietary protein source may provide opportunity to enhance presence of specific members of Lactobacillus genus that are associated with immune-modulating properties without altering overall intestinal bacterial diversity.  相似文献

Six isonitrogenous (35% crude protein) experimental diets were formulated with raw and soaked de-oiled copra meal substituted for fish meal in the diet at 20, 30 and 40% levels by weight. The tannin content of raw de-oiled copra meal was reduced from 2.4 to 0.9% by soaking it in water for 16 h at room temperature. The response of rohu, Labeo rohita (Hamilton), fingerlings fed these diets for 80 days was compared with fish fed a fish meal-based control diet. On the basis of growth response, food conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio, the 30% soaked copra meal diet resulted in the best fish performance (P < 0.01). The growth response of the fish was significantly (P < 0.01) affected by both type and inclusion level of the oilseed meal. The growth of fish declined with the increasing level of inclusion of copra meal, irrespective of the type of meal used. The apparent protein digestibilities (APDs) for the raw copra meal were lower at all levels of inclusion in comparison with those for the soaked meals. The highest amount of carcass protein was recorded in the fish fed the diet containing 30% soaked copra meal. The results showed that de-oiled copra meal can be incorporated into carp diets up to 20% in the raw condition and up to 30% in the treated condition without any deleterious effects on growth performance of Labeo rohita fingerlings.  相似文献

House fly larvae (Musca domestica L.) grown in the residues of municipal organic waste were evaluated as a protein concentrate in practical diets for poultry. Seventy-two broiler-type chicks were alloted within 12 groups. Quadruplicate groups each received the following dietary treatments: a control diet containing soya bean meal alone, or two diets in which either 12% of the supplementary protein was provided by fly larvae meal or 9% by fish meal. The chicks were fed during the first four weeks of life with isocaloric and isoproteic diets and the results showed no significant differences in body weight gain (P > 0.05) or food conversion efficiency (P > 0.05), the larvae meal diet being intermediate to the other two.  相似文献

Increasing levels of a mixture of Ulva spp. produced in an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system were evaluated in Nile tilapia juveniles for partial replacement of dietary fish meal. A control diet (CTRL) was compared with three experimental diets containing 10 % (U10), 15 % (U15), and 20 % (U20) of Ulva spp. meal. Triplicate groups of fish (13 g initial body weight) were fed each diet for 63 days at 26 °C. Nutrient apparent digestibility coefficients and nitrogen retention efficiency did not vary significantly among diets. By the end of the trial, all groups of fish more than tripled their initial body weight. Specific growth rate and final body weight of U10 diet were similar to CTRL and significantly higher than U15 and U20 diets. Increasing Ulva dietary incorporation levels significantly increased feed conversion ratio (FCR), from 1.0 (CTRL) to 1.4 (U20). Fish fed with U10 diet had the highest protein efficiency ratio and nitrogen retention efficiency allowing this fish to growth and reach a final body weight similar to the CTRL group. Protein content was highest in fish fed with the CTRL diet, whereas the highest lipid content was observed in fish fed with U20 diet. The results show that the incorporation of IMTA-produced Ulva meal in Nile tilapia diets is possible up to 10 % without compromising growth performance, protein utilization, and protein retention of juveniles. The high capacity of Nile tilapia to digest all experimental diets suggests that Ulva meal is a practical partial replacement for fish meal in Nile tilapia diets.  相似文献

Growth of the ornamental fish industry is being hindered by the scarcity of low cost feed; hence alternative protein supplements should be explored. In this context the present study aims to evaluate whether the grasshopper Oxya fuscovittata could be used as a supplement for fish meal in the diets of Poecillia sphenops, which is one of the most common ornamental fishes worldwide. The present work is divided into three phases: In the first phase proximate composition of the grasshopper is obtained and five diets are prepared where fish meal is gradually replaced by Oxya meal and named as control, D1, D2, D3 and D4. All the diets are formulated on iso-nitrogenous basis where the protein percentage is fixed at 400 g/kg. The second phase deals with feeding trial and in the third phase all the data of the feeding trial are subjected to a linear model. The feeding trial shows that the control, D1 and D2 fed fishes have almost similar results. The linear model proves that the variation in the indices are mainly due to replacement of fish meal by Oxya meal, not due to the variations of rice husk and mustard oil cake that are also used to formulate the diets of the present study. From the results two Oxya supplemented diets, i.e. D1 and D2 are proved to be almost equivalent to the control diet. Hence it is concluded that Oxya meal is able to replace 25% to 50% of fish meal from the diets of P. sphenops.  相似文献

Fungal mycelium capable of producing antibacterial agents was isolated from samples of apple, beetroot, lemon and orange; the mycelium of all isolates produced penicillin, while the apple and beetroot samples also produced the antibacterial mycotoxin patulin. The known penicillin-producing fungi were shown to produce penicillin, but not patulin. The mycelial discs of all of fruit and vegetable isolates, as well as the two known penicillin producing fungi, inhibited Staphylococcus aureus, and mycelium of all isolates inhibited MRSA, in contrast, only one of the two known penicillin-producers did so. The results are discussed in relation to the possibility of using the mycelium of Penicillium species in mycotherapy.  相似文献

The present study was conducted in order to examine the effects of diets with different ruminal degradable protein sources on the performance of lactating goats fed pelleted total mixed rations (PTMR). Forty multiparous Jonica goats in early-lactation were divided into two equal groups and fed for 135 days the experimental diets. Two types of PTMR were formulated to be isonitrogenous and isocaloric while providing different rumen degradable levels of crude protein: (1) high-degradable protein diet (HD) containing soybean meal, sunflower meal and urea (46% N), and (2) low-degradable protein diet (LD) including only corn gluten meal. Apparent digestibility of the two PTMR was tested using Jonica bucks placed in individual pens and results indicated significant differences (P < 0.05) for crude protein, crude fibre, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre nutrients’ utilization. In milk performance trial, no significant differences (P > 0.05) were registered in dry matter intake and milk yield. Goats fed LD diet containing corn gluten meal showed the highest milk fat, protein and casein concentration, but not significant differences (P > 0.05) were observed on other milk components and renneting properties. It was concluded that a decrease of rumen degradable protein (RDP) level in PTMR does not negatively influence nutrient utilization and milk production and composition of Jonica dairy goat.  相似文献

Six isonitrogenous (approximately 35% crude protein) and isocaloric (approximately 4.0 kcal g−1) diets were formulated incorporating raw and fermented black gram, Phaseolus mungo, seed meal at 20%, 30% and 40% levels by weight into a fishmeal‐based control diet fed to rohu, Labeo rohita, fingerlings (mean weight, 1.81 ± 0.21 g) for 80 days for a study of fish performance. A particular bacterial strain (Bacillus sp.) isolated from the intestine of adult common carp (Cyprinus carpio) reared in the wild having significant amylolytic, cellulolytic, lipolytic and proteolytic activities was used for fermentation of seed meal for 15 days at 37 ± 2°C. Fermentation of P. mungo seed meal was effective in significantly reducing the crude fibre content and antinutritional factors such as tannins and phytic acid, and enhancing available free amino acids and fatty acids. In terms of growth, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio, the 30% fermented black gram seed meal incorporated diet resulted in a significantly (P < 0.05) better performance of rohu fingerlings. In general, growth and feed utilization efficiencies of diets containing fermented seed meal were superior to diets containing raw seed meal. The apparent protein digestibility (APD) values decreased with increasing levels of raw seed meal in the diets. The APD for raw seed meal was lower at all levels of inclusion in comparison to those for the fermented seed meals. The maximum deposition of protein in the carcass was recorded in fish fed the diet containing 40% fermented seed meal. The results indicate that fermented black gram seed meal can be incorporated in carp diets up to the 30% level compared to the 10% level of raw seed meal.  相似文献

The interest in biodiesel production from oil-bearing seeds rather than soybean necessitates the scientific validation of other good quality protein sources that could substitute soybean meal in animal diets, particularly, broiler chickens where soybean meal constitutes a large portion of their diet. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the effect of sun-dried Azolla leaf meal (ALM) as an unconventional dietary protein source in broiler chicken diet on growth performance, meat quality, skeletal muscle cell growth and protein synthesis through regulation of ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6 kinase α). A total of 120 male Ross 308 broiler chicks were randomly allocated to three dietary treatments. Each treatment had four cages (i.e. replicates) with 10 birds/cage. The control group was fed with a corn–soy-based diet, the AZ5 group was supplemented with 5% ALM and the AZ10 group was supplemented with 10% ALM for 37 days. A 5-day trial was also conducted to measure the apparent nutrient digestibility. Growth performance parameters were measured weekly. At the end of the experiment, 12 birds from each group (3/cage) were euthanized and used for samplings. Inclusion of ALM tended to improve BW gain (P = 0.06) and increased feed intake (P < 0.01). Additionally, ALM decreased the percentage of breast meat cooking loss linearly (P < 0.01). In addition, ALM at a dose of 5% increased the production of propionate in the cecum (P = 0.01). Activation of breast muscle p70S6 kinase was higher when ALM was included in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.01). The inclusion of ALM increased breast meat redness (P < 0.01); however, the lightness was within the normal range in all groups. Findings from our study suggest that ALM could be included in a broiler chicken diet up to 5% without any major negative effect on meat quality or performance, and it regulates muscle protein synthesis through activation of mammalian target of rapamycin/6S kinase signaling.  相似文献

Slow-release urea (SRU) can substitute dietary protein sources in the diet of feedlotting ruminant species. However, different SRU structures show varying results of productive performance. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different sources of nitrogen on performance, blood parameter, ruminal fermentation and relative population of rumen microorganisms in male Mehraban lambs. Thirty-five male lambs with an average initial BW of 34.7 ± 1.8 kg were assigned randomly to five treatments. Diets consisted of concentrate mixture and mineral and vitamin supplements plus (1) alfalfa and soybean meal, (2) wheat straw and soybean meal, (3) wheat straw and urea, (4) wheat straw and Optigen® (a commercial SRU supplement) and (5) wheat straw and SRU produced in the laboratory. No statistical difference was observed in animal performance and DM intake among treatments. The mean value of ruminal pH and ammonia was higher (P < 0.05) for the SRU diet compared with WU diet. The difference in pH is likely to be due to the higher ammonia level as VFAs concentrations were unchanged. The level of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) was different among treatments (P = 0.065). The highest concentration of BUN was recorded in Optigen diet (183.1 mg/l), whereas the lowest value was recorded in wheat straw-soybean meal diet (147 mg/l). The amount of albumin and total protein was not affected by the treatments. The relative population of total protozoa, Fibrobacter succinogenes, Ruminococcus flavefaciens and Ruminococcus albus in the SRU treatment was higher (P < 0.01) than that in urea treatment at 3 h post-feeding. During the period of lack of high-quality forage and in order to reduce dietary costs, low-quality forage with urea sources can be used in the diet. Results of microbial populations revealed that SRU can be used as a nitrogen source which can sustainably provide nitrogen for rumen microorganism without negative effects on the performance of feedlotting lambs.  相似文献

The objective of the two studies was to determine the bioavailability of threonine (thr) and tryptophan (trp) in peanut meal, relative to l-thr and l-trp, for starter pigs using the slope-ratio bioassay. Basal diets (BDs) contained surfeit amounts of all amino acids for 10 to 20 kg pigs, except for thr (Experiment 1) or trp (Experiment 2). In the first study, four reference diets were formulated by supplementing the BD with 0, 0.4, 0.8 or 1.2 g of l-thr/kg at the expense of cornstarch; two test diets were formulated by replacing cornstarch in the BD with peanut meal at 32 or 64 g/kg of diet to supply 0.4 or 0.8 g thr/kg, respectively. Four reference diets consisting of the BD supplemented with 0, 0.15, 0.3 or 0.45 g of l-trp/kg at the expense of cornstarch and two test diets in which cornstarch in the BD was replaced with peanut meal at 30 or 60 g/kg of diet to supply 0.14 or 0.28 g trp/kg, respectively were used in the second study. Body weight gain responded in a linear way to supplemental l-thr or thr from peanut meal (P < 0.001). There was a linear response (P < 0.001) to thr supplementation from l-thr or peanut meal in gain-to-feed ratio. The addition of trp to the BD linearly increased (P < 0.05) body weight gain, feed intake and gain-to-feed ratio regardless of the trp source. Common-intercept, multiple linear regression in slope-ratio methodology using weight gain or gain-to-feed ratio as dependent variables and supplemental thr intake as independent variable gave relative bioavailability estimates of 71.9% or 75.7%, respectively. Corresponding values for trp were 92% and 75.7%. The fiducial limits for none of the relative bioavailability estimates included 100%. The data from these studies suggest that the bioavailabilities of thr and trp in peanut meal are less than those of l-thr and l-trp, and that the bioavailabilities of thr and trp in peanut meal are 72% to 76% and 76% to 92%, respectively.  相似文献
