Prosopis spp. areintroduced rangeland weeds in Australia. In asearch for biological control agents, thepsyllid Heteropsylla texana, which causessevere distortion to growing leaf and floralshoots, was imported from Texas, USA forhost range testing in quarantine facilities.No-choice tests were conducted on 60 plantspecies including P. pallida, P. velutinaand P. juliflora. In these trials, adultssurvived on 45 non-target plants but ovipositedonly on the Prosopis spp., Dichrostachys spicata and Acaciabidwillii. Nymphs developed to ovipositingadults on all Prosopis spp. and both D. spicata and A. bidwillii. Developmentof small numbers of adults on D. spicataand A. bidwillii occurred for only onegeneration. Damage was noticed only on Prosopis spp. In multiple-choice trials usingthree plant species, oviposition and subsequentdevelopment of eggs and nymphs to adults tookplace on P. pallida and D. spicatabut not on A. bidwillii. The low numbersdeveloping, the longer development times toadults when reared on D. spicata and A.bidwillii, and the failure of these plantsto sustain populations beyond one generationindicate that these plants are not hosts ofH. texana. While adult survival on manytest plants may imply that adult feedingoccurred, the risk to populations of theseplants in the field is negligible. It wasconcluded that H. texana is specific toProsopis spp. and could be released inAustralia for control of Prosopis spp.Observations of the biology of this speciesmade during the course of rearing andexperimentation indicated that nymphs developedthrough five instars to adults in 7–8 days sothat total development from egg to adult takes13–17 days. Bio control potential of three Bacillus spp viz., Bacillus subtilis, B. thuringiensis and B. cereus, against soil borne root-infecting fungi on cowpea and mash bean plants were tested both in vitro and in vivo. All three species showed efficiency and produced nodules on mash bean and cow pea plants. In vitro dual culture plate method showed significant inhibition of Fusarium spp. by all these three species of Bacillus with the appearance of a prominent zone of inhibition while a maximum zone of inhibition of Fusarium spp. was observed by B. thuringiensis, whereas in case of Macrophomina phaseolina and Rhizoctonia solani, the highest zone of inhibition was observed by B. subtilis. Bacillus spp. used as seed dressing and soil drenching showed a significant increase in shoot length, shoot weight, root length and root weight in cow pea and mash bean plants. Maximum shoot length was observed in cow pea plants where Bacillus spp. were drenched in soil, whereas maximum root length and root weight in cow pea was observed when B. thuringiensis used as seed dressing. Seed dressing and soil drenching with species of Bacillus viz., B. subtilis, B. thuringiensis and B. cereus, were found to be an effective method for the control of soil borne root-infecting fungi like M. phaseolina, R. solani and Fusarium spp., on cow pea and mash bean plants.  相似文献

The intake of mycotoxin-contaminated feeds can lead to nutrient losses and may have adverse effects on animal health and on productivity. The aims of this study were (1) to determine the mycobiota present in poultry feed samples, and (2) to evaluate the natural occurrence of aflatoxin B1, fumonisin B1 and zearalenone. Fungal counts were similar between all culture media tested (103 CFU g−1). The most frequent genus isolated was Penicillium spp. (41.26%) followed by Aspergillus spp. (33.33%) and Fusarium spp. (20.63%). High precision liquid chromatography was applied to quantify aflatoxin B1 and fumonisin B1. Thin layer chromatography was used to determine zearalenone levels. Aflatoxin B1 values ranged between 1.2 and 17.5 μg kg−1. Fumonisin B1 levels ranged between 1.5 and 5.5 μg g−1. Zearalenone levels ranged between 0.1 and 7 μg g−1. The present study shows the simultaneous occurrence of two carcinogenic mycotoxins, aflatoxin B1 and fumonisin B1, together with another Fusarium mycotoxin (zearalenone) in␣feed intended for poultry consumption. Many samples contained AFB1 levels near the permissible maximum and it could affect young animals. A synergistic toxic response is possible in animals under simultaneous exposure.  相似文献

Several species of algae have been commercially harvested in New Zealand, mainly for extraction of agar and alginates. In the past, the harvest was comprised mostly of shore-cast plants. There has been more recent interest, however, in harvesting attached plants of Pterocladia spp., Porphyra spp., Gracilaria sordida, Durvillaea spp., Macrocystis pyrifera, and Ecklonia radiata. The ecological effects of harvesting attached algae depend largely on the sizes of plants, the season of removal, the patch size of clearances, and the proximity and identity of mature plants. These have not been well-studied for seaweeds in New Zealand, but population and life history studies indicate that harvesting methods affect the continuity of algal resources, at least on a local scale, and are crucial factors in their management.  相似文献

Phytophthora spp., some of the more important casual agents of plant diseases, are responsible for heavy economic losses worldwide. Plant defensins have been introduced as transgenes into a range of species to increase host resistance to pathogens to which they were originally susceptible. However, the effectiveness and mechanism of interaction of the defensins with Phytophthora spp. have not been clearly characterized in planta. In this study, we expressed the Dahlia merckii defensin, DmAMP1, in papaya (Carica papaya L.), a plant highly susceptible to a root, stem, and fruit rot disease caused by Phytophthora palmivora. Extracts of total leaf proteins from transformed plants inhibited growth of Phytophthora in vitro and discs cut from the leaves of transformed plants inhibited growth of Phytophthora in a bioassay. Results from our greenhouse inoculation experiments demonstrate that expressing the DmAMP1 gene in papaya plants increased resistance against P. palmivora and that this increased resistance was associated with reduced hyphae growth of P. palmivora at the infection sites. The inhibitory effects of DmAMP1 expression in papaya suggest this approach has good potential to impart transgenic resistance against Phytophthora in papaya.  相似文献

Isavuconazole is a new triazole currently undergoing phase III clinical trials. This compound has shown in vitro activity against a large number of clinically important yeasts and moulds including Aspergillus spp., Fusarium spp., Scedosporium spp., Candida spp., the Zygomycetes and Cryptococcus spp. Similar to voriconazole, reduced in vitro activity is seen against Histoplasma capsulatum. In vivo efficacy has been demonstrated in murine models of invasive aspergillosis and candidiasis. Additionally, there are several potential pharmacokinetic and drug–drug interaction advantages of this compound over existing antifungal agents. This review summarizes existing data that has been either published or presented at international symposia.  相似文献

In the years 1985–1989, the occurrence of arbuscular fungi and mycorrhizae on the Hel Peninsula (Poland) was investigated with the help of 45 soil and root samples collected under 20 plant species of eight families. Except for Zea mays, the other plant species were from uncultivated sites. All soil samples contained spores of arbuscular fungi, of which about 45% were of the genus Glomus. Acaulospora spp. preferred members of the Cupressaceae. Spores of Gigaspora occurred rarely and only in two plant families. Glomus spp. were most frequently associated with plants of the Rosaceae, and species of Scutellospora were found at markedly higher frequencies among roots of plants of the Gramineae and Cupressaceae. A total of 29 spore-forming species and Glomus tenue (a fungus recognizable by its distinctive infections) were found. The most frequently recovered fungus, Glomus tenue, was present in roots of 56.8% of examined plants. Of the spore-forming fungi, the most frequently isolated spores were those of Scutellospora dipurpurascens, then Glomus constrictum, Acaulospora 61, and Glomus microcarpum. The overall spore density in examined samples averaged 99.8 in 100 g dry soil in the range 1 to 547, and was highest in a sample taken from around roots of Festuca arundinacea. The dominant fungi forming spores in sampled soils were Glomus constrictum, Glomus microcarpum, and Scutellospora dipurpurascens. The average species density was 3.9 in 100 g dry soil in the range 1 to 10, and was highest in Corynephorus canescens, Rosa canina, and Thuja occidentalis. Levels of colonization by arbuscular fungi ranged from 0.0 to94.0% (mean 23.3%) of the root length and were highest in Festuca arundinaceae and Zea mays.  相似文献

Ayurvedic medicine, which uses decoctions made of medicinal plants, is used to cure diseases in many Asian countries including Sri Lanka. Although proper storage facilities for medicinal plants are unavailable in Sri Lanka, neither the potential for growth of toxigenic fungi nor their ability to produce mycotoxins in stored medicinal plants has been investigated. We isolated three Fusarium species, F. culmorum, F. acuminatum and F. graminearum from the medicinal plant Tribulus terrestris. Culture extracts of the 3 Fusarium spp. were cytotoxic to mammalian cell lines BHK-21 and HEP-2. Three toxic metabolites produced by Fusarium spp; T-2 toxin, zearalenone, and diacetoxyscirpenol were also cytotoxic to the same mammalian cell lines. The 3 Fusarium spp. grown on rice media produced zearalenone. Plant material destined for medicinal use should be stored under suitable conditions to prevent growth of naturally occurring toxigenic fungi prior to its use.  相似文献

Several bacterial species are capable of using nicotine, the main alkaloid in tobacco plants, as a substrate for growth. The dominant species include members of two genera, Pseudomonas and Arthrobacter. The degradation pathway and genetic structure of nicotine catabolism in Arthrobacter nicotinovorans were recently reviewed (Brandsch Appl Microbiol Biotechnol 69:493–498, 2006). Here, we present up-to-date information on biodegradation of nicotine by Pseudomonas spp. Species in this genus capable of degrading nicotine are summarized and analyzed phylogenetically. Their metabolic intermediates and nicotine degradation-related genes were summarized, and the nicotine-biotransformation pathways were compared and discussed.  相似文献

Summary The monthly trees and shrubs pollen (AP) content of the atmosphere during a whole annual period is analyzed. Thirty airborne pollen types have been identified. Most of them come from cultivated plants flowering in late winter-early spring. Thereby the annual peak is recorded in October. The highest frequencies recorded are those ofFraxinus americana, Acer negundo, Platanus spp. andMorus nigra. A second minor peak is recorded in March, and is mainly due toCasuarina spp./Myrica spp. pollen. Aeropalynological data are discussed and correlated with phytogeographical, phenological and meteorological parameters.  相似文献

Coffee blister spot has been associated with species from the Colletotrichum genus, but there is no information on the variability of isolates present on leaf lesions. This study evaluated a population of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides strains from blister spot lesions in Coffea arabica. Colletotrichum spp. isolates were collected from blister spot lesions on leaves of coffee trees from Catuaí and Topázio cultivars (Coffea arabica). Monosporic cultures were obtained from colonies with sporulation. A pathogenicity test was carried out by inoculation of pathogens on the leaves of young coffee plants. C. gloeosporioides strains were characterized by morphologial, cytological and physiological analyses. The molecular analysis was carried out using Inter‐Retrotransposon Amplified Polymorphism (IRAP) markers. C. gloeosporioides strains showed no pathogenicity on coffee plants and presented a wide variability in all traits evaluated. The presence of sexual strains, formation of CATs (conidial anastomosis tubes) among conidial strains and high mycelial compatibility among strains observed suggest the occurrence of sexual and asexual recombination. The role of these C. gloeosporioides strains on the lesions of coffee plant leaves is unclear.  相似文献

Bacterial disease has caused high mortality of breeding molluscs from 2009 to 2011 in the Changhai area (Dalian, China). Vibrio spp. and Pseudomonas spp. have been detected as major pathogenic agents for aquatic animals in this area. In the present study, four virulence genes including vsm, toxR, aprX and carA were targeted to develop a real-time PCR assay for the quantitative detection of Vibrio splendidus, V. parahaemolyticus, Pseudomonas fluorescens and P. putida, respectively. The sensitivity and specificity of the assays were verified by experimental samples, and the variation tendencies of pathogenic V. splendidus, V. parahaemolyticus, P. fluorescens and P. putida strains from June to September were also detected in mollusc farming waters during 2011–2014. The concentration of V. splendidus increased from June to July, reduced in August, and then increased again in September. The highest count of V. parahaemolyticus appeared in July, and then dramatically decreased from August to September. Conversely, the counts of P. fluorescens and P. putida remained at lower levels from June to August, and then dramatically peaked in September. All four pathogenic bacteria displayed similar fluctuation tendencies of count variation in each year, and their concentrations were found to have a correlation with the average annual temperature. The variation tendency of pathogenic bacteria with temperature suggested that temperature was one of the most important factors to regulate the bacterial growth in a farming area, which could further provide information for the early warning of disease outbreak by using a convenient real-time PCR assay.  相似文献

Bacterial species of the genusPrevotella represent a numerically dominant microbial population in the rumen of cattle. They belong to the phylogenetic divisionCytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides (CFB) which is a large group of ecologically diverse bacteria with only a few shared traits. The phylogenetic descent from a common ancestor seems to be unquestionable, however, as judged from the small subunit ribosomal RNA analysis. Only 4 ruminalPrevotella species have been described to date, even though the sequence analysis of directly retrieved 16S rRNA genes indicates a large genetic diversity within this group of rumen bacteria. The closest relatives of ruminalPrevotella spp. are not surprisingly other species of the genusPrevotella, typically inhabiting the gastrointestinal tract, oral cavity and genital areas of other animals and man. The previous phylogenetic analysis showed that species of the genusPrevotella can be split into two groups or superclusters, the “ruminal” and the “non-ruminal prevotellas”. One of 4 currently described ruminalPrevotella spp.,i.e. P. albensis, has been placed outside the supercluster containing ruminalPrevotella spp. and within the supercluster containing the non-ruminalPrevotella spp. However, the number of available small subunit rRNA sequences from this species represents only a fraction of all known ruminalPrevotella sequences.  相似文献

The root‐knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola, is an important pest of rice in many rice production areas worldwide. The endophyte Fusarium moniliforme strain Fe14, isolated from a disinfected root of rice, has previously shown potential antagonistic activity against M. graminicola. This study shows the effects of Fe14 on M. graminicola behaviour, infection, development and reproduction. The endophyte Fe14 colonisation significantly reduced M. graminicola penetration into rice roots by 55% and increased the male to female ratio nine times. The endophyte also delayed juvenile development into female inside the rice root. These results suggest a suboptimal performance of the giant cell and a cumulative effect of the endophyte on the long‐term root‐knot nematode population development. In split‐root assays, the application of Fe14 at the inducer side significantly reduced nematode invasion at the responder side by 38% and 60% in two independent trials. This result suggests a systemic effect of the endophyte on rice plants. The root exudates from Fe14‐treated plants were either less attractive or had repellent effect on nematode movement. The results, when compared to what was described for other endophytic Fusarium against other nematode species, may indicate a basal response mechanism initiated in the plant by endophytic Fusarium spp. The present study may give leads for unravelling the molecular mechanisms responsible for the induced systemic defence responses in plants.  相似文献

Food safety and shelf-life are both important microbial concerns in relation to broiler meat production. Focus is mainly placed on the absence or control of potentially pathogenic microbes such as Salmonella spp. and Campylobacter spp. but, from the commercial point of view, other spoilage bacteria also play a role as potential threats. Regarding food safety, the primary target should be the production of pathogen-free live animals, thus allowing slaughter plants to keep the processing line free of those microorganisms.Consumers believe that quality of foods from organic production is superior to foods from conventional production. The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the bacterial quality of chicken meat from organic and conventional production on the basis of traditional meat quality criteria. Fresh free grazing broiler carcasses were purchased directly from rural households (n = 80) and fresh retail chicken parts from conventional broiler carcasses from the local supermarkets in the region of Epirus (Poultry Producers Association. Arta) (n = 200).The samples were microbiologically tested for the presence of bacteria such as: Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacteriaceae, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter spp., and C. perfringens. Total count of aerobic mesophilic bacteria was also determined. Bacteriological tests were performed by means of standard methods of isolation and identification of individual species of bacteria according to ISO requirements. API-tests (bioMerieux) and Vitek 2 Identification System (bioMerieux) were used for biochemical determination. High levels of microbial contamination and occurrence of pathogenic bacteria at then fresh free grazing broiler carcasses reflect the poor hygienic quality of the slaughter conditions in the rural households.  相似文献

During the 10000-year history of the Ostrowite Lake, there have been several episodes of change in dominance amongst species of the genus Bosmina. The dominants were alternately B.longirostris and Eubosmina spp. Amongst the subgenus Eubosmina, two species prevailed in different periods:Bosmina coregoni and Bosmina reflexa. The first species, Bosmina coregoni, is characterized by long antennae and short carapace mucrones, while the second one, Bosmina reflexa, by short antennae and very long mucrones. Bosmina reflexa was dominant at the beginning of the lake's history (Preboreal, 10000--9000 BP) and during the early Subboreal Period (5000–3500 BP). Only a small number of remains of Bosmina longispina(Eubosmina spp.) were present along the entire profile. Such strong changes in the domination of Bosmina species were observed for the first time in the sediments of Polish lakes. A similar transition from one species to another has been described in a few German lakes and was linked to climate changes. However, the changes in the Ostrowite Lake do not correlate with climate changes, but most probably, with changes in the lake's trophic level. This is suggested by the simultaneous increase of Bosmina reflexa and a good indicator of eutrophy, Bosmina longirostris.  相似文献

Nitrogen-fixing bacteria colonize the roots of many gramineous plants from different geographic regions. The discovery that diazotrophs can be isolated from surface-sterilized roots or other plant material led to studies of their potential to inhabit plant tissue. For some diazotrophs, their endophytic character has been documented. This review summarizes current methods to identify endophytes and to characterize the colonization of plants by endophytic bacteria. Taxonomy, occurrence, diversity, and mechanisms of plant infection of Azoarcus spp. is discussed in relation to Herbaspirillum spp. and Acetobacter diazotrophicus. Perspectives how to study their functions and metabolism in association with plants are discussed.  相似文献

Resistance level of seven accessions of wild Solanum species (Solanaceae) to Myzus persicae and Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Homoptera: Aphididae) was evaluated by measuring survival and fecundity during sleeve cage experiments and population growth on whole plants in a controlled environment. The survival was lowest on the Solanum circaeifolium spp. capsicibaccatum, Solanum pinnatisectum and Solanum trifidum accessions for M. persicae and on the S. circaeifolium spp. capsicibaccatum, Solanum okadae and S. trifidum, accessions with M. euphorbiae. Plant species significantly influenced the fecundity of both aphid species. Aphid population growth on whole plants was negatively affected by the age of the plant, but generally followed the levels of net reproductive rate on different plant species observed during the sleeve cage experiment. The population of M. persicae varied among the seven wild potato accessions with the lowest growth rates on S. circaeifolium spp. capsicibaccatum, Solanum polyadenium, Solanum tarijense and S. trifidum. The number of M. euphorbiae also varied among accessions but the smallest population was collected from S. polyadenium. The results can be used to identify sources of resistance to aphids within those accessions already known to be resistant to the Colorado potato beetle. This study highlights the difficulties involved in developing a high-throughput screening test for aphid resistance compatible with a potato breeding programme.  相似文献

Emerging tick-borne diseases of humans and animals have occurred frequently during the past 30 years. These disease outbreaks appear to result from changes in the distribution of tick and vertebrate hosts, and the introduction of humans and domestic animals into tick–pathogen–wildlife cycles. Use of molecular technologies now available for identification of pathogens in ticks can provide valuable information that allows for risk analysis of emerging tick-borne diseases. In this study, the prevalence of selected pathogens in ticks collected in six locations in central Spain from the major wild ungulate species, European wild boar (Sus scrofa) and Iberian red deer (Cervus elaphus hispanicus), was determined by PCR. Tick species collected included Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor marginatus, Rhipicephalus bursa and Hyalomma m. marginatum. Pathogens identified in ticks included piroplasmids, Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp. and Rickettsia spp. Piroplasmids were identified in all tick species except I. ricinus. Ehrlichia spp. were detected in all tick species and collection locations, while Rickettsia spp., which proved to be R. slovaca and a recently identified Rickettsia sp. DnS28, were identified only in D. marginatus. A. marginale and A. phagocytophilum were detected in D. marginatus, R. bursa and Hy. m. marginatum. Concurrent infections of these pathogens were frequently observed in ticks. Notably, A. phagocytophilum, which is infective for a broad host range that includes humans and domestic and wild animals, was identified in ticks from all collection locations. The variety of ticks and tick-borne pathogens demonstrated in this study suggests a risk in central Spain for the emergence of tick-borne diseases in humans and domestic animals.  相似文献
