Strand-like structures with a diameter of about 50 Å are observed in the raw and averaged electron microscopical images of the largeEscherichia coli subunit. These strands seem to be of a ribonucleoprotein nature. A tentative model of a three-dimensional arrangement of 12 such strands is proposed, explaining the observed superposition pattern in different particle views and fit well the known morphological models.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of resistance to brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stol.), of 20 rice cultivars was studied. Single dominant genes that are allelic to Bph 3 condition the resistance in cultivars Ptb 19, Gangala (Acc. 7733), Gangala (Acc. 15207), Horana Mawee, Kuruhondarwala, Mudu Kiriyal and Muthumanikam. Single recessive genes that are allelic to bph 4 govern the resistance in cultivars Gambada Samba, Heenhoranamawee, Hotel Samba, Kahata Samba, Kalukuruwee, Lekam Samba, Senawee, Sulai, Thirissa and Vellai Illankali. The resistance in Ptb 33, Sudu Hondarwala, and Sinna Sivappu is governed by one dominant and one recessive gene which segregate independently of each other. The dominant resistance genes in these cultivars appear allelic to either Bph 1 or Bph 3. Similarly, the recessive genes in these cultivars seem allelic to either bph 2 or bph 4. Further investigations are needed to conclusively determine the allelic relationships of resistance genes in Ptb 33, Sudu Hondarwala and Sinna Sivappu.  相似文献

Summary One hundred and twenty-two varieties, lines and wild accessions of Lycopersicon were screened under three different regimes during the autumn/winter season of 1982–83 and 1983–84 for resistance to tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV). L. hirsutum f. glabratum (B6013) and L. hirsutum f. typicum (A1904) proved to be highly resistant to TLCV in all three environments. Various accessions of L. peruvianum were also highly resistant. L. pimpinellifolium (A1921) exhibited no TLCV symptoms within 90 days. Of the cultivated varieties, Acc 99 exhibited the minimim score for susceptibility; AC 142, Collection No. 2, Kalyanpur Angurlata and HS 101 had a low rating for virus incidence. The inheritance of resistance was studied in the interspecific crosses between a TLCV resistant line of L. pimpinellifolium (A1921) and five (HS 101, HS 102, HS 110, Pusa Ruby and Punjab Chhuhara) susceptible cultivars of L. esculentum. Parents, F1, F2 and backcross progenies were artificially inoculated with local strains of TLCV using vector the viruliferious whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.). Data indicated that the resistance of L. pimpinellifolium (A 1921) is monogenic and incompletely dominant over susceptibility.  相似文献

Summary Thirteen spontaneously occurring chlorophyll deficient phenotypes have been described and their genetic basis was established. Ten of these — white, white tipped green, patchy white, white virescent, white striping 1, white striping 2, white striping 4, fine striping, chlorina and yellow virescent showed monogenic recessive inheritance and the remaining three — yellow striping, yellow green and light green seedling phenotypes showed digenic recessive inheritance. The genes for (i) white tipped green (wr) and yellow virescent (yv) and (ii) patchy white (pw) and white striping 1 (wst 1) showed independent assortment. Further, the genes for white (w), white tipped green (wr) and yellow virescent (yv) were inherited independently of the gene for hairy leaf margin (Hm).In the mutants — white tipped green, patchy white, white striping 1, white striping 2, fine striping, chlorina, yellow virescent, yellow striping, yellow green and light green phenotypes total quantity of chlorophyll was significantly less than that in the corresponding controls, while in white virescent there was no reduction in the mature stage. For nine of the mutants the quantity of chlorophyll was also estimated in F1's (mutant x control green). In F1's of six of the mutants — white tip, patchy white, chlorina, yellow virescent, fine striping and yellow striping the quantity of chlorophyll was almost equal to the wild type. In the F1's of three of the mutants — white striping 1, white striping 2 and light green an intermediate value between the mutant and wild types was observed. In yellow virescent retarded synthesis of chlorophyll, particularly chlorophyll a was observed in the juvenile stage. Reduced quantity of chlorophyll was associated with defective chloroplasts. In the mutants — white tipped green, white virescent, fine striping, chlorina, yellow striping, yellow green and light green defective plastids were also observed. In patchy white secondary destruction of chlorophylls and the presence of defective plastids were found to be associated with reduced chlorophyll quantity at maturity.Paper chromatographic studies of leaf flavonoids revealed some variation between the inbreds, but there were three common spots, 7, 8 and 9, except for PDP in which the spot 8 was absent. Chlorophyll deficient mutants differed from their respective controls in the absence of one or more of the spots present in the controls and in the presence of new spots in some of the mutants. Most of the chlorophyll mutants showed higher survival rate in the Kharif season than in Rabi season which was attributed to the higher mean day temperature and longer day light period in the Kharif season than in Rabi season.  相似文献

Summary Genetic analysis for leaf rust reaction of two widely adapted cultivars, Sonalika and WL 711, has been done using 21 near isogenic Lr lines and rust culture IL004 — avirulent on the two cultivars and all the Lr lines used. The segregation pattern in the F2 generation indicated the presence of a recessive gene in Sonalika and of a dominant gene in WL 711. These genes in cultivars Sonalika and WL 711 have been identified as Lr 11 and Lr 13, respectively. Gene Lr 13 is no longer effective in WL 711 but it continues to give field resistance in the backgrounds of Chris, Prelude and Thatcher. There has been no significant change in the virulence spectrum of the leaf rust pathogen in India with the release of WL 711. High susceptibility of WL 711 seems to be due to the evolution of more aggressive forms of the pathogen to this cultivar. The gene Lr 11, which behaves as a recessive in Sonalika, was effective against leaf rust when this cultivar was released. The high susceptibility of Sonalika is probably due to an increase in the frequency of race 77 virulent on Lr 11. Lr 11 has shown a dominance reversal in the background of Sonalika. Present results suggest that interaction of resistance genes with the background genotype must be studied for their effective use in breeding programme.  相似文献

Summary Meiotic pairing in Triticum turgidum cv. Ma (4x) with a mean chiasmata frequency of 27.16 per cell was compared with chiasmata frequencies in its hybrids with several triticale strains, Chinese Spring wheat and its addition lines for Imperial rye chromosomes 4R and 6R. In hybrids between Ma and x Triticosecale cv. Rosner the chiasmata frequency was marginally reduced by an average of 1.25%, by 8.8% in hybrids with x Triticosecale cv. DRIRA HH and by 6.7% with DRIRA EE (lacking 90% telomeric heterochromatin from chromosome arm 7RL). In pentaploid hybrids between Ma and T. aestivum cv. Chinese Spring the reduction was an average of 10.30%, while addition lines with rye chromosome 6R reduced chiasmata frequencies by an average of 7.4% and rye addition line for 4R showed the greatest depression in chiasmata frequency in hybrids by a 25.04% reduction. An interchange difference involving long chromosome segments was observed between Ma and Rosner.Contribution No. 819 Ottawa Research Station  相似文献

Maximum inhibition of Glycine max, cv. Essex seed germination occurred at 10 g/ml following 72 hr imbibition in constant light. Seeds imbided 108 hr in constant darkness at this concentration showed a 20% rise in germination over that of the control. Imbibition of G. max, cv. Williams seeds in either light or dark for 96 hr did not suppress germination. Imbibition of Essex seeds in either light or dark at 2.5 through 10 g/ml stimulated root elongation except for 10 g/ml at 96 hr (light). Maximum inhibition of Williams root elongation under constant light was at 48 and 72 hr with 10 g/ml. Statistically significant differences in cotyledon, leaf and stem lengths between non-treated (NT) and treated (T) seedlings were not found except for Williams stem length at 2.5 / ml. Root elongation was stimulated 1.2- and 1.1-folds, respectively, at 5.0 (Essex) and 2.5 (Williams) g/ml. Toxin at 2.5 through 10.0 g/ml did not markedly alter either cotyledon or leaf widths with the exception of Williams leaf width at 2.5 g/ml. Medium supplementation with 2.5 through 10.0 g/ml resulted in cotyledon, leaf and root weight enhancements for Essex seedlings. Stem weight was not markedly affected. An 18% rise in Williams cotyledon weight above that of the control was seen at 2.5 g/ml. Williams leaf weights were increased 1.75- and 1.25-folds, respectively, at 2.5 and 10.0 g/ml. Aflatoxin B1, at 2.5 g/ml promoted Williams stem and root elongation 1.20- and 1.09-folds, respectively. Most of the radioactivity from 65Zn-ZnCl2 recovered within organs was found within Essex roots for both T and NT seedlings. A higher amount of radioactivity was recovered within roots at each toxin concentration than was without toxin. However, this was not statistically significant. Significant differences in the distribution of radioactivity within roots between NT and T Williams seedlings were not observed. Generally, AFB1 failed to affect significantly these two varieties of soybeans based on the tests relating to germination, growth and radiolabel uptake.  相似文献

Summary Information regarding the relative levels of salt tolerance between cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) is lacking. The objectives of this study were to 1) develop a simple, quick and sensitive method of screening turfgrass species for NaCl tolerance and 2) to compare the relative salt tolerance of five cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass (Ram I, Adelphi, Baron, Bensun, and Nassau) to other known salt tolerant turfgrass species such as alkalaigrass (Puccinellia distans (L.) Parl. cv. Fults) and two cultivars of red fescue (Festuca rubra L. Dawson, and Checker).Alkalaigrass and both cultivars of red fescue retained a high level of salt tolerance compared to the Kentucky bluegrass cultivars. Significant variability in salt tolerance was apparent among the Kentucky bluegrass cultivars with Adelphi and Ram I exhibiting the best overall tolerance.  相似文献

Summary The inheritance of resistance to whitebacked planthopper Sogatella furcifera (Horvath) was studied in 21 rice varieties. Reactions of F1; F2 and F3 progenies of the crosses of 21 resistant varieties with the susceptible variety TN 1 revealed that a single dominant gene governs resistance in Mushkan 41, Santhi, Siahnakidar 195, SM2-34, Tirisurkh 251, Zirijowaian 245, 18, 24A, 39, 76 S, 78, 180, 213 B, 267, 293, CI 6037-4, NP97, S39 JKW and Bansphul. In varieties 65 and 274 A, resistance is governed by one dominant and one recessive gene which segregate independently of each other. Tests for allelism with the Wbph 1 gene originally identified in N 22 revealed that the dominant gene present in all the test varieties is the same as Wbph 1. Further studies are required to determine the allelic relationships of the recessive gene found in varieties 65 and 274 A.  相似文献

Summary Seeds of two cultivars, each of macrosperma and microsperma varietal groups of lentil were mutagenised with gamma-rays and NMU to determine their mutagen sensitivity and mutability. The increasing doeses of gamma-rays and NMU decreased germination, root and shoot length, pollen fertility and plant survival, but increased the occurrence of leaf spots. The root system was found to be more sensitive to both mutagens than the shoot. The macrosperma varietal group was more sensitive to both the mutagens than microsperma group. In microsperma group, variety Pusa-1 was more sensitive to both the mutagens than L-259, while in the macrosperma group L-1491 showed more sensitivity to the mutagens than L-1492. Radio-sensitivity corresponded positively with chemosensitivity in both varietal groups. There was a positive relationship between radio- and chemo-sensitivity of the genotypes and their mutability. The results also revealed the existence of a parallelism between radiomutability and chemo-mutability. Due to saturation in the mutational events and vigour of both diplontic and haplontic selection in the biological material, the mutation frequency either decreased or remained constant at higher doses of the mutagens.  相似文献

Summary Crude protein extracts from single seeds of nondomesticated Mexican bean accessions were analysed by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for variability in phaseolin protein. Six new phaseolin types; M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, which contained polypeptides within the same range of molecular weights (51,000 to 45,000 daltons) as occur in the S, T and C phaseolin types of cultivated beans were identified. No T and C types were found among the non-domesticated Mexican accessions, and the S type occurred in less than 7% of the seeds screened. Genetic analyses of F2 progenies from crosses between Sanilac (S), and five of the M types showed that each M phaseolin phenotype was allelic to the S type and expressed codominantly.  相似文献

As the first step in the transfer of barely yellow dwarf virus resistance and salt tolerance from decaploid tall wheatgrass (Thinopyrum ponticum) into hexaploid bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), octoploid intergeneric hybrids (2n = 8x = 56) were synthesized by crossing the tall wheatgrass cultivar Alkar with wheat cvs. Fukuhokomugi (Fuko) and Chinese Spring. (Fuko x Alkar) F1 hybrids were studied in detail. The F1 hybrids were perennial and generally resembled the male wheatgrass parent with regard to morphological features and gliadin profile. Most hybrids were euploid with 56 chromosomes and showed high chromosome pairing. On an average, in 6 hybrids 83.6% of the complement showed chiasmatic association, some between wheat and wheatgrass chromosomes. Such a high homoeologous pairing would be obtained if Ph1, the major homoeologous pairing suppressor in wheat, was somehow inactivated. Some of the Fuko x Alkar hybrids had high pollen fertility (18.5–42.0% with a mean of 31.5%) and high seed fertility (3–29 seeds wtih a mean of 12.3 seeds per spike), offering excellent opportunities for their direct backcrossing onto the wheat parent.  相似文献

A simple method for stimulating and maintaining high in vitro multiplication of Narcissus shoot clump cultures was developed. Shoot clumps were subjected either to normal cutting where leaves were trimmed to 20 mm in length at the beginning of each culture passage or to severe cutting where shoot clumps were cut down to the basal plate region removing all green tissue. Severe cutting at the beginning of each culture passage initially doubled the leaf multiplication, compared to normal cutting, but the difference between cutting treatments declined in successive passages. The improvement in leaf multiplication was maintained when shoot clumps were subjected to severe cutting only at every other culture passage, with no cutting in the alternate recovery passages. In vitro multiplication was increased by severe cutting in all seven Narcissus cultivars which were tested.Abbreviations NAA-1 naphthylacetic acid - BAP benzylaminopurine  相似文献

sThe hydrolysis of several esters catalyzed by lipase of Candida rugosa was used to analyse the interaction between the ester substrate and the active site and the geometry and steric restrictions of alk, ar and h subsites. Using 4-R-C H -CH(R)-COOEt and ethyl trans-cinnamate, the presence of a low electronic density zone in the ar pocket is described, the dimensions of the pocket produced by Phe-296 and Leu-297 in the alk subsite and the size of the h subsite are described.  相似文献

Summary Isoelectric focusing of esterase (EST), peroxidase (PRX), and phosphoglucomutase (PGM) isozymes in Chinese Spring wheat, Imperial rye and several Chinese Spring/Imperial and Holdfast/King II addition, translocation and substitution lines revealed the chromosomal location of nine Est loci previously described and of one Prx and Pgm locus. Loci Est1, Est2, Est3, Est5, Est6 and Est7 were found on chromosome arm 5RL, Est8 and Est9 on chromosome 6R in Imperial rye, and the Est10 locus on chromosome arm 4RL in Imperial rye and King II rye. A discrepancy was found between the chromosomal location of the Prx locus in Imperial where chromosome 2R was responsible for the expression of the peroxidase enzyme, and King II with chromosome 1R carrying the Prx gene. As a possible explanation, the occurrence of translocation events during the production of wheat/rye aneuploid lines is discussed. The rye Pgm locus could be associated with chromosome 4RS in Imperial and King II rye. Except for the location of Est loci on chromosome 5RL, the results reported in this paper lend further evidence for the assumed homoeology relationships between the chromosomes of Triticinae and for the conservation of gene synteny groups during the evolution of the Triticeae tribe.  相似文献

Summary Thirteen maize (Zea mays L.) populations including five adapted, five adapted x exotic, two composites of adapted and exotic, and one exotic selected for adaptability were crossed in a diallel mating system. The parents and 78 crosses and nine check hybrids were evaluated for grain yield and plant height in five environments. The Gardner-Eberhart model Analysis II indicated that additive and nonadditive gene effects accounted for 60 and 40% of the total variation among populations, respectively, for grain yield and 86% and 14% of the total variation, respectively, for plant height. Components of heterosis were significant in the combined analysis for both traits. Adapted Corn Belt populations tended to have higher performance in crosses and greater values of variety heterosis than 50% adapted populations. Nebraska Elite Composite, Corn Belt x Mexican, and Corn Belt x Brazilian showed high mean yields in crosses, however, they were not among those with high estimates of variety heterosis. One exotic population (Tuxpeno x Antigua Grupo 2) and three adapted populations [307 Composite, NB(S1)C-3, and NK(S1)C-3] might be combined together to form a high-yielding population. It may be possible to synthesize two useful populations for reciprocal recurrent selection by grouping Tuxpeno x Antiqua Grupo 2, NB(S1)C-3, and NS(FS)LFW-8 into one population and NK(S1)C-3, KrugxTabloncillo, and 307 Composite in the other one.Contribution from the Department of Agronomy, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE 68583. Summary Chris wheat possessed genes Sr5, Sr7a, Sr8a, Sr9g and Sr12. W3746, derived from the cross Chris/Baart, possessed Sr7a and Sr12. The response conferred by Sr7a was influenced by the genetic background. Although Sr7a or Sr12 alone conferred no observable resistance upon adult plants, the adult resistances of Chris and W3746 to predominant pathotypes appeared to be associated with the interaction of Sr7a and Sr12, or genes at closely linked loci.  相似文献

Summary Using disomic chromosome substitution lines based on the susceptible wheat cultivar Chinese Spring, loose smut resistance of wheat cultivars Hope and Thatcher was shown to be conferred in each case by a single dominant major gene carried on chromosome 7 A (Hope) or 7 B (Thatcher). Partial resistance was determined by genes on an additional eight Hope or seven Thatcher chromosomes, and similarities were evident between the partial resistance genotypes ofHope and Thatcher. Chinese Spring exhibited a mean infection value of approximately 50%, indicating a significant level of partial resistance, which was found to be due, in part, to genes on the homoeologous chromosome arms 1 As, 1 Es and 1 Ds, and to cytoplasmic genes. Substitution of the Chinese Spring nucleus into the cytoplasm of Aegilops squarrosa, Ae. variabilis or Ae. mutica resulted in increased susceptibility to Ustilago tritici. Several alloplasmic lines of the resistant wheat cultivars Selkirk and Chris exhibited race-specific susceptibility to U. tritici.  相似文献

The inheritance of host plant resistance and its effect on the relative infection efficiency for leaf blast was studied in the crosses IR36/CO39 (partially resistant × highly susceptible) and IR36/IR64 (both partially resistant). On the natural scale, gene action appeared multiplicative. After log transformation, additive effects described most of the genetic variation in the cross IR36/CO39, while additive and dominance effects were about equal in magnitude in the cross IR36/IR64. Dominance was towards increased resistance. No transgressive segregation occurred in the cross IR36/CO39. The number of genes that reduce lesion number was estimated to be zero in CO39 and five or more in IR36. The cross IR36/IR64 showed transgressive segregation in both directions, and IR36 and IR64 each contain at least one gene that is not present in the other cultivar. The heritabilities (narrow sense) in the F2 were low (range 0.06–0.16), while narrow sense heritabilities based on F3 lines were much higher (range 0.41–0.68). Lesion numbers in F3 lines were reasonably correlated with those in F5 progenies derived from the same F2 plant (r was±0.6 in both crosses). Partial resistance can be effectively improved by selecting the most resistant plants from the most resistant F3 lines.  相似文献

In floating rice, stem elongation begins much earlier than in non-floating rice, which is the major survival mechanism for flooding. Inheritance of this early elongation ability was studied using diallel and quantitative trait locus (QTL) analyses. The diallel analysis was undertaken using a set of 6×6 half-diallel crosses involving four floating (Goai, Habiganj Aman VIII, Badal 106, and Oryza rufipogon strain W120) and two non-floating (Latisail and Patnai 23) parents. The additive gene effects were higher than the dominant effects. The dominant alleles were concentrated in the cultivated floating parents (Goai, Habiganj Aman VIII, and Badal 106), whereas the recessive alleles were in the wild floating parent (W120). A QTL analysis using a Patnai 23 × Goai F2 population detected two putative QTLs. Of these QTLs, the one on chromosome 12 behaved as a partially dominant major gene that explained more than half of the total genetic variation.Communicated by D.J. Mackill  相似文献
