OVIPOSITION BEHAVIOUR AND DISPERSAL OF PERTHID A GLYPHOPA COMMON (LEPIDOPTERA: INCURVARIIDAE)

Abstract
Oviposition behaviour of the jarrah leafminer moth Perthida glyphopa was observed during the seasonal flight period in April-May. After alighting on trees, the gregarious males restricted their movements to the branches, whereas the solitary females searched for oviposition sites on the leaves. The females laid most eggs at 14–22 °C in diminishing light or overcast conditions, preferring young leaves in the lower portion of the crown. They dispersed more readily than males.     

鲥鱼仔幼鱼食性与生长的初步研究

本文主要描述鲥鱼仔幼鱼阶段有关摄食、消化器官的发育、不同大小仔幼鱼食物组成特点、摄食量及其昼夜摄食节律。此外,还就仔幼鲥鱼人工饲养条件与天然状况下的生长作了比较。结果表明,只要供饵正常,孵化环道内生活的仔幼鲥生长速度可以略快于鄱阳湖同期天然生长个体的速度,为今后人工培育仔幼鲥进行放流和增殖提供资料。       

RELIABILITY OF USING HEAD CAPSULE WIDTH AND BODY LENGTH TO IDENTIFY LARVAL INSTARS OF AEDES VIGILAX (DIPTERA: CULICIDAE)

Discriminant function analyses on head capsule width and body length of 940 larvae of the saltmarsh mosquito Aedes vigilax (Skuse) were used to determine their reliability in distinguishing between different instars. Of larvae reared under different temperature/salinity regimes, 99.4% were correctly graded on the basis of head capsule width whereas only 88.0% of determinations were correct when body length was used. Thus head capsule width was found to be a reliable character to grade instars regardless of rearing conditions.     

RELATIONS BETWEEN THE FEEDING AND RADIO-SENSITIVITY CYCLES AND THE ECDYSONE CYCLE IN BOMBYX MORI, AT THE END OF EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT AND DURING THE FIRST FOUR LARVAL INSTARS

The cycle of ecdysone secretion in Bombyx mori was determined at the end of embryonic development and during the first four larval instars by means of radio-immunological titration (RIA). There is a relationship between this cycle and the radio-sensitivity cycle of this insect. This radio-sensitivity (tested through the percentage of abnormal ecdysis and of permanent larvae) is minimum when the hormone rate is important during X-irradiation; the effect is maximum when the hormonal rate is minimum. The fall of the ecdysone rate during the first food-intakes entails a reverse radio-sensitivity.
