Electrophysiological, multi-unit responses from the ethmoidbranch of the trigeminal nerve to chemical stimuli (amyl acetate,d-carvone, l-carvone, l-menthol and toluene) were examined,using self- and cross-adaptation paradigms, to address the questionof whether different chemical stimuli may stimulate trigeminalnerve fibers using different ‘receptive pathways’and thus to suggest whether qualitative distinctions betweendifferent compounds may be made by trigeminal chemoreceptors.No adaptation occurred between l-menthol and toluene, suggestingthat these two compounds activate different receptive pathwaysin the trigeminal nerve which may be capable of making qualitativediscriminations between these two compounds. Symmetrical adaptationoccurred between amyl acetate and d-carvone, amyl acetate andl-carvone, amyl acetate and toluene, and l-carvone and d-carvonesuggesting that these compounds may activate the same receptivepathways in the trigeminal nerve which may not be capable ofmaking qualitative discriminations between these compounds.Asymmetrical adaptation occurred between amyl acetate and l-menthol,d-carvone and l-menthol, l-carvone and l-menthol, d-carvoneand toluene, and l-carvone and toluene. This implies that theprocessing of these stimuli by trigeminal nerve fibers may bemore complex than anticipated previously.  相似文献

Some characteristics of the carbon compounds released by Daphnia   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The Daphnia species studied released 18–100% of the algalcarbon ingested as dissolved and particulate carbon compounds,presumably mainly as feces. The particulate fraction constitutedon average 79 5% of the total released compounds, leaving21% as dissolved compounds. The particles released were verysmall and transparent, not visible by light microscopy Moreover,they contained significant amounts of chlorophyll derivatives.The dissolved compounds consisted mainly of small molecules(mol. wt >103 daltons), and were shown to be utilized byplanktonic bacteria. Our results show that particulate organiccarbon and chlorophyll a should not be used as measures foralgal carbon in grazing experiments with Daphnia. Both theseparameters were influenced by the animals' fecal particles,yielding lowered clearance rates compared with those obtainedby using cell numbers as a measure for algal carbon.  相似文献

The effects of a broad range of compounds were assessed usingboth seedlings and callus cultures of five species. An experimentallyjustified ranking procedure was used to facilitate the comparisonof the inhibitory characteristics at multiple concentrations.When the effects on seedlings of Lycopersicon esculentum, Solanumnigrum, Chrysanthemum segetum and Cirsium arvense were comparedto those on white calli of the same species, some positive correlationswere obtained; photosynthesis inhibitors affected seedlingsmuch more than calli and some compounds affected calli muchmore than seedlings. Better correlations were obtained betweenthe effects on Rumex obtusifolius seedlings and on green Rumexcalli; the only exceptions being those compounds affecting mainlythe calli. Thus callus cultures, especially green ones, havea potential for use to assess possible phytotoxicity as wellas to detect potential toxicity of compounds not penetratinginto or being translocated in whole plants. The enormous metabolic plasticity of plants allows detoxificationof many harmful compounds that are generated during biosyntheticprocesses or are present as biotic or abiotic toxins in theirenvironment. Derivatives of toxic compounds such as glutathioneconjugates are moved into the central vacuole via ATP-bindingcassette (ABC)-type transporters of the multidrug resistance-associatedprotein (MRP) subfamily. The Arabidopsis genome contains 15AtMRP isogenes, four of which (AtMRP1, 2, 11 and 12) clustertogether in one of two major phylogenetic clades. We isolatedT-DNA knockout alleles in all four highly homologous AtMRP genesof this clade and subjected them to physiological analysis toassess the function of each AtMRP of this group. None of thesingle atmrp mutants displayed visible phenotypes under controlconditions. In spite of the fact that AtMRP1 and AtMRP2 hadbeen described as efficient ATP-dependent organic anion transportersin heterologous expression experiments, the contribution ofthree of the AtMRP genes (1, 11 and 12) to detoxification ismarginal. Only knockouts in AtMRP2 exhibited a reduced sensitivitytowards 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene, but not towards other herbicides.AtMRP2 but not AtMRP1, 11 and 12 is involved in chlorophylldegradation since ethylene-treated rosettes of atmrp2 showedreduced senescence, and AtMRP2 expression is induced duringsenescence. This suggests that AtMRP2 is involved in vacuolartransport of chlorophyll catabolites. Vacuolar uptake studiesdemonstrated that transport of typical MRP substrates was reducedin atmrp2. We conclude that within clade I, only AtMRP2 contributessignificantly to overall organic anion pump activity in vivo.  相似文献

The morphological and physiological variability of six isolatesof Pyricularia oryzae, the causal organism of rice blast disease,were investigated. The rate of growth, colony characters, andtime of sporulation were found to vary with the different isolatesthough not by appreciable amounts. Each of the isolates showedconsistently better growth on Takahashi's B medium than on Czapek-Dox'smedium although the growth trend was the same in both media.The colony characters developed by each isolate are not dependenton the medium on which it is growing—a pointer to thefact that such characters may be genetically controlled. Germinationwas faster in distilled water than in 2 per cent agar. All theisolates produced appresoria in vivo and in vitro; those producedin vivo were, however, considerably larger than those producedin vitro. On the basis of appresorial types, the isolates werefound to fall into two physiological races—smooth-walledand rough-walled. Each isolate produced consistently only oneappresorial type in vitro from the apical or basal cell of theconidium. The utilization of carbon and nitrogen compounds variedfrom one isolate to the other, carbon compounds being generallybetter utilized than nitrogen compounds. Pyricularia oryzaecan metabolize a wide range of carbon compounds. However, mannose,sucrose, glucose, fructose, and maltose proved to be most suitablecarbon sources. The variations in the utilization of the variouscarbon and nitrogen compounds seem to reflect inherent biochemicaland physiological differences among the isolates.  相似文献

水稻叶片在遭受害虫的危害时,释放一些特异性的挥发性物质。这些挥发性信息物质在调节植物、植食性昆虫及其天敌的相互关系中有重要作用。利用“Y”型嗅觉仪研究了褐飞虱对虫害诱导的11种水稻挥发物(浓度为2 Μl 化合物溶解在100 Μl丙酮溶液中)的行为反应。结果表明,(E)-2-己烯醛、(E)-2-己烯-1-醇、-2-庚醇和水杨酸甲酯等4种化合物对褐飞虱成虫有显著的驱避作用,而(Z)-3-己烯-1-醇、-2-庚酮、柠檬烯、罗勒烯、芳樟醇、-β-子丁香烯和橙花叔醇等7种物质对褐飞虱成虫的选择行为无显著影响。浓度梯度的实验表明,浓度(不同体积的待测化合物用100 Μl丙酮稀释)较低的(E)-2-己烯醛(0.5 Μl、1 Μl)和芳樟醇(05 Μl、1 Μl、5 Μl)对褐飞虱成虫的选择行为无显著影响,而较高浓度的(E)-2-己烯醛(5 Μl、10 Μl)和芳樟醇(10 Μl)对褐飞虱成虫均有明显的驱避作用。  相似文献

The combined application of 10–6 M adenine and 10–6M mevalonic acid to soya bean callus accelerated its growth.Two biologically active compounds that co-chromatographed withzeatin and isopentenyl adenine were extracted from this callus.Studies with labelled adenine and mevalonic acid indicated thatthe cytokinin-dependent soya bean callus incorporated only avery small amount of the radioactive precursors into the biologically-activecompounds, making it extremely difficult to determine whetherthese compounds were synthesized de novo or whether they aroseas by-products of tRNA turnover. As cytokinins do not accumulatein rapidly-growing cytokinin-dependent soya bean callus culturedon kinetin as a source of cytokinin it seems as if biosynthesisde novo occurs when the callus is supplied with adenine andmevalonic acid. When studying the effects of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiationon plants, a good measure of UV-B sensitivity is a decreasein dry weight, since this reflects the cumulative effect ofmany small disruptions in plant function. Measurements of chlorophyllconcentration and the level of UV-absorbing compounds are alsoused to gauge plant health during and after UV-B exposure. Whena variety of vegetable crop plants were screened for UV-tolerance,it was found that the levels of chlorophyll and UV-absorbingcompounds did not correlate with sensitivity. Biomass accumulationwas, however, correlated with UV-sensitivity; plants that accumulatedmore biomass over a 2-week period were more likely to be UV-Bsensitive. This suggests that a rapid growth rate renders plantsmore sensitive to the injurious effects of UV-B radiation. Nodules from six Casuarina symbioses (Casuarina cunninghamiana,C. equisetifolia, and C. glauca inoculated with each of twodifferent Frankia sources) were evaluated for (i) concentrationsof haemoglobin (measured as CO-reactive haem) at 124, 144 and165 d after inoculation, (ii) acetylene reduction and (iii)occurrence of lignin-like compounds in cell walls of the nodulesat 165 d after inoculation. Haemoglobin concentration and theoccurrence of lignin-like compounds were related to acetylenereduction at final harvest. Concentration of haemoglobin innodules ranged from 1.56 to 22.27 nmol haem (g FW)-1. Therewere marked plant species-Frankia interactions. At final harvestplant growth was greatest in C. cunninghamiana inoculated withFrankia inoculum designated SI, while haemoglobin concentrationwas intermediate in this symbiosis. Acetylene reduction activitywas detected in all the symbioses except C. equisteifolia inoculatedwith SI, and was highest in C. glauca inoculated with SI. Haemoglobinconcentration per fresh weight nodule and acetylene reductionper plant were positively correlated (r= 0.84, n= 12). The highestlevels of cumulative nitrogen fixation were always associatedwith the highest haemoglobin concentrations and the highestrates of acetylene reduction activity. Nitrogen content waslowest in C. equisetifolia inoculated with SI (23.89±3.07mg) and highest in C. cunninghamiana inoculated with the sameinoculum (217.2±22.5 mg). Irrespective of symbiotic performance,lignin-like compounds were found in the cell walls of the nodulesin all symbioses in this study. The cells containing these compoundswere mainly localized in the infected areas of the nodule. Theroles of haemoglobin and occurrence of lignin-like compoundsin relation to nitrogen fixation in Casuarina symbioses arediscussed.  相似文献

为明确豆薯Pachyrrhizus erosus (L.) Urban种子中的杀虫成分及其杀虫毒力,以白纹伊蚊Aedes albopictus 4龄幼虫为目标昆虫,在活性跟踪的基础上,通过多种色谱技术和核磁共振技术分离鉴定其化学成分结构,并通过浸渍法、点滴、夹毒叶碟法等测定各化合物对白纹伊蚊幼虫、棉蚜Aphis gossypii无翅成蚜、甘薯天蛾Herse convolvuli幼虫和小菜蛾Plutella xylostella幼虫的杀虫活性和作用方式。结果表明,从豆薯种子中共分离、鉴定了14个化合物,即12a-hydoxyrotenone,pachyrrhizine,12a-hydoxypachyrrhizone,12α-dehydropachyrrizone,α-naphthoflavone,7-methoxyflavanone,12α-hydroxydolineone,6-methoxyflavone,4′-hydoxyflavanone,quercetin dihydate,5-methoxyflavone,7-hydroxyflavone,3′-hydoxyflavanone和3-hydroxyflavone。上述化合物中的前7个化合物对白纹伊蚊4龄幼虫具有毒杀活性, 处理24 h的LC50分别是25.0,51.1,196.2,48.4,98.9,107.2 和15.6 mg/L;前6个化合物对棉蚜成虫24 h 的毒力分别为1.5,10.9,80.7,8,32.1和112.8 mg/L;前5个化合物以及12α-hydroxydolineone对甘薯天蛾3龄幼虫有毒杀活性;12α-hydoxyrotenone对3龄小菜蛾幼虫24 h的胃毒毒力LD50为17.3 μg/头,7-methoxyflavanone对该虫仅表现出较弱的生长发育抑制活性。首次从豆薯种子中分离得9个化合物,即6-methoxyflavone,4′-hydoxyflavanone,quercetin dihydate,α-naphthoflavone,7-methoxyflavanone,5-methoxyflavone,7-hydroxyflavone,3′-hydoxyflavanone和3-hydroxyflavone;豆薯种子含有7个活性成分,其作用方式因目标昆虫不同而不同,其主要杀虫成分不是鱼藤酮而是12α-羟基鱼藤酮。  相似文献

测定了棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigera处女雌蛾和交配雌蛾对小麦花中单一或多个挥发性物质的EAG反应。在单组分或多组分的测定中,棉铃虫处女蛾和交配蛾在P=0.05水平上并不存在显著性差异,但在混合的绿叶气味物质中加入含量为1×10-5~5×10-5(体积比)的正庚醛时,交配蛾对混合物的触角电位反应显著高于处女蛾的反应(P<0.05)。  相似文献

提取和鉴定了杂草田旋花Convolvulus arvensis的天敌旋花蛾Tyta luctuosa的性信息素主要成分,并应用风洞实验对雄蛾进行了测试。结果表明,腺体提取物和雌蛾求偶时所释放的主要性信息素成分均为2种化合物:顺-9-十四碳烯醛(Z9-14∶Ald)和顺-11-十六碳烯醛(Z11-16∶Ald)。腺体提取物中2种化合物的总量在个体间差异很大(22~167 ng),但二者的比率相对稳定(Z9-14∶Ald/Z11-16∶Ald=0.3±0.15)。雌蛾所释放的性信息素量及比率在个体间也存在差异。每只雌蛾求偶时平均每小时释放94 ng Z9-14∶Ald和45 ng Z11-16∶Ald,平均比率为2.2。风洞实验结果显示,48%的雄蛾可被合成的性信息素混合物(0.4 μg Z9-14∶Ald, 2 μg Z11-16∶Ald)引诱完成逆风飞行并最终触及刺激源,而2种对照组(以求偶期雌蛾或性信息素腺体提取物为刺激源)的引诱率则分别为62%和44%。  相似文献

No interactions between water stress and three phenolic acids(p-coumaric, caffeic and ferulic acids) on lettuce (Lactucasativa L. var. Grand Rapids) seed germination were found. Probitanalysis indicated that mechanisms of action of water stressand the phenolic inhibitors were similar. The relative effectivenessof the compounds was p-coumaric > ferulic > caffeic. Nointeraction was found between p-coumaric and ferulic acid, whereasantagonism was found between caffeic acid and each of the othertwo phenolic acids. The active principle triggering the metabolic outburst of theappendices of certain arum lily species has been purified andpartially characterized. Although in the past it has been thoughtof as a single factor ("calorigen"), both paper chromatographyand DEAE-Sephadex ion exchange chromatography reveal that thereare two compounds (calorigen I and II) with calorigen activity.These can act alone or together, but show no synergism. Theyare low-molecular compounds which appear to be common constituentsof the inflorescence of Sauromatum guttatum Schott. CalorigenII is also present in the spadix of Arum maculatum L., Arumdioscoridis Sibth. & Sm., and Dracunculus vulgaris Schott.Calorigen I absorbs UV at 242, 267 and 278 nm, calorigen IIat 229 and 295 nm. No spectral changes are noted in alkalineenvironment, whereas at low pH-values there is a shift of theabsorption peaks of both compounds towards longer wavelengths.Calorigen II displays a strong blue fluorescence and has a maximalemission at 410 nm when activated at 295 nm. Germination of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Great Lakes) wasinhibited by aromatic alcohols, aldehydes and carboxylic acidsin a way similar to that by aliphatic members. Increased lipophilicityusually leads to increased inhibitory activity. Thus methylationincreased activity while hydroxylation decreased it. Exceptionswere seen with ortho-hydroxylated compounds and other exceptionsindicated the presence of unrecognized factors. Many of thephenolic compounds often quoted as inhibitors were shown tobe not particularly activeagainst lettuce germination when comparedwith, for instance, abscisic acid or coumarin.  相似文献

A new method is reported for the histochemical localizationof monoterpene phenols in essential oil secretory structures.The method was adapted from a spot test originally devised forin vitro detection of phenolic compounds in organic analyses.Plant subjects were the Lamiaceae species Thymus vulgaris L.,Oreganum vulgare L. and Mentha x piperita L., which accumulateessential oil in glandular trichomes. A reagent consisting of4-nitrosophenol in conc. H2SO4was applied to sample leaves ofeach species. A positive test for phenol was indicated by theproduction of coloured indophenols. Using this method, monoterpenephenols were identified in the trichomes of T. vulgaris(thymol)and O. vulgare(carvacrol), indicated by colour changes to redand green respectively. No phenol was detected in trichomesof M. x piperita. Results were confirmed by GC-MS analysis ofleaf volatile extracts from each species, and in vitro testswith thymol and carvacrol. The method could be used in fieldsurveys for rapid identification of potential medicinal plantsand bioactive compounds. Changes in the localization of phenolic compounds were investigatedin columella cells of embryonic roots in 1-year-old Brassicanapus seeds during 48 h of imbibition and germination. In dry,dormant seeds, phenolic compounds were located in the apoplasticcompartment between the cell wall and plasmalemma in the outermostlayer of the columella. These apoplastic phenolic deposits disappearedduring the activation processes associated with imbibition andgermination, but new deposits appeared successively in the nucleus,ER cisternae, protein bodies and on the outer surface of theroot cap. A large number of phenolic deposits were observedin the outermost part of the columella, becoming less frequenttowards the initial centre. Their appearance coincided withrestoration of the ER and immediately preceded cytological activation.After the primary root had emerged from the seed coat, depositsof phenolic compounds disappeared from the cytoplasm, but simultaneouslyappeared in the vacuoles. The effects of allyl, sulfur and cyanogenic compounds on thegermination of upper cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.)seeds were examined. Mercaptoethanol and methylmercaptan aswell as KCN, substrates for rßcyanoalanine synthase(CAS), and H2S and thiocyanate, the products of the CAS catalyzingreaction, were effective in promoting germination, suggestingthe involvement of CAS in germination. Most of allyl compounds, especially allylthiourea, as well asethylene which activated CAS [Hasegawa et al. (1994) Physiol.Plant. 91: 141], promoted the germination in an abnormal typewhich occurred by the predominant growth of cotyledons as didC2H4 [Katoh and Esashi (1975) Plant Cell Physiol. 16: 687].However, they failed to activate CAS unlike ethylene, and toliberate free ethylene during an incubation period. The accumulation of liposoluble fluorescent compounds with excitationand emission fluorescent maxima in the bands of 350–370nm and 410–440 nm respectively has been observed in thedegrading (the late stationary phase) blue-green algae Anabaenavariabilis K?tz and Anabaena cylindrica Lemm. cells, in thedark-senescing cotyledons from Phaseolus vulgaris L., and inmore than 1-year-old leaves of evergreen plants (Ligustrum japonicumThunb. and Osmanthus fortunei Carr.)- Spectral and chromatographicproperties of the compounds are rather similar to those previouslydescribed in the cells of other senescing plant species. The nature of the substances responsible for the major cytokininactivity in extracts of Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn. root noduleswas investigated by means of chromatographic, chemical, andenzymic methods. Five cytokinins were demonstrated and a furthertwo compounds were probably present in trace amounts. The propertiesof the cytokinins were consistent with their being identicalor closely similar to trans-zeatin, trans-zeatin riboside, zeatin-O-ß-D-glucoside,and a ß-D -glucoside of zeatin riboside together withcertain of the corresponding dihydrozeatin compounds. The greatestpart of the cytokinin activity was represented by the glucosides.  相似文献
