In Greek coastal waters, the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium minutum (strain AJ879163) was detected for the first time in spring 2002. This species proliferated during spring–summer of 2002 and 2003 over a wide geographic range along the north-south Aegean Sea coastline, mostly at low concentrations (average: 102–103 cells L−1) with one exception of higher abundance (average: 105 cells L−1). This study presents data on environmental (temperature, salinity, chl α, nutrients) and ecological (phytoplankton species composition, diversity, taxa dominance, community dissimilarities) parameters in the areas of A. minutum occurrence. A. minutum was isolated and grown in batch cultures used in a series of bioassay experiments for determination of its pigment composition by HPLC, half saturation constants (Ks) for nitrogen and phosphorus, and its response to different nitrogen to phosphorus (N:P) ratios.  相似文献

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages are increasingly utilized as indicators of water and sediment quality in coastal-marine environments. Most reef-dwelling foraminifers live on firm substrata such as reef or phytal surfaces, while most assessments have examined assemblages from sediments. This case study compared relative abundances of total foraminiferal-shell assemblages between sediment and phytal/rubble samples collected from one reef within one week. A total of 117 species within 72 genera were identified, with the same taxa in both sample sets in different proportions. Larger benthic foraminifers and some agglutinated taxa were concentrated about 1.5–3 fold in sediment samples, while nearly two-thirds of small, fragile shells were lost. Several common indices were compared, including Taxonomic Richness (number of genera), Shannon (H), Simpson's (D) and Fisher (α) diversity indices, Evenness (E), and the FORAM Index (FI). Highly significant differences (p < 0.001) between shell assemblages from 13 sets of phytal/rubble substrata and sediments were found in mean number (± standard deviation) of genera (49 ± 4 vs. 34 ± 10) and mean FI (5.6 ± 0.8 vs. 3.6 ± 0.4); both reflecting greater relative abundances of smaller foraminifers in the rubble samples. Fisher diversity was marginally significant (p = 0.05); other indices showed no significant differences between sample types. Although assessment of total assemblages is substantially less costly than distinguishing between specimens that were live or dead when collected, many researchers report those distinctions. The results of our study provide insight that can assist interpretations of studies that use live assemblages to calculate the FI, rather than total assemblages for which it was originally developed.  相似文献

The efficacy of Koretrel©, a biocide used in south-eastern Asia to remove epilithic photoautotrophic organisms, was tested in the field and laboratory using lichens as target organisms. In situ observations were carried out at increasing time intervals for 6 month on 15 vegetation plots and 21 saxicolous species representative of the lichen flora of Italian monuments, selected according to their different ecology, growth-form and distribution. Change in chlorophyll fluorescence was monitored in three species for 32 day after biocide treatment. The effects of the biocide on the substratum was studied by monitoring changes in capillary water absorption and surface colorimetry of two CaCO3-containing rocks (Aurisina limestone and Muggia sandstone), and a grey granite. Rock crystal integrity was monitored by SEM. The results show that Koretrel© is very efficient in killing the lichens. Pronounced effects were observed in all species after 1–2 weeks, with chlorophyll fluorescence reduced to zero in 4 day in the case of Lecanora muralis and Neofuscelia loxodes and in 8 days for Caloplaca saxicola. The biocide considerably decreases capillary water absorption, and alters the surface colour of the substrata, particularly for Aurisina limestone. However, no corrosion features were observed in the rock minerals.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper was to study the responses of mountain plants in relation to the time of snowmelt. Three mountain areas situated along an oceanic–continental gradient were selected as study sites, and the sample plots ranged from 182 m below to 473 m above the climatic forest limit. In total, 185 quadrats (2 m × 2 m), stratified to include only oligotrophic and mesotrophic mountain vegetation types, were selected to represent a topographic range along altitudinal gradients. In each quadrat, the percentage groundcover of the species was recorded. From the beginning of April until July 2004, snow thickness was monitored, and the Julian day when the snow had completely melted was determined for all plots. The relationship between species abundances and Julian day of snowmelt were analysed by two different numerical methods: (1) relative values for species optimum and tolerance were given by Detrended Canonical Correspondence Analysis (DCCA) with Julian day of snowmelt as the constraining variable. (2) Species responses were modelled by Generalized Linear Models (GLM). For species with significant unimodal responses, optimum and tolerance were calculated. For species with significant linear models, different species response models were identified by the regression intercepts. One hundred and twenty six species (taxa) were tested, and 103 evidenced statistically significant (p < 0.05) distribution responses. Several common alpine plants had a distribution that appeared to be independent of snow. On the basis of the results of the numerical methods, the species were separated into nine Snow Indicator (SI) classes, as a parallel to the Ellenberg indicator values. The species’ SI values were used to calculate weighted average SI values to examine the relationships between previously described plant communities and vegetation transects which experience different snow conditions.  相似文献

Biotic indices for algae, macroinvertebrates, and fish assemblages can be effective for monitoring stream enrichment, but little is known regarding the value of the three assemblages for detecting perturbance as a consequence of low-level nutrient enrichment. In the summer of 2006, we collected nutrient and biotic samples from 30 wadeable Ozark streams that spanned a nutrient-concentration gradient from reference to moderately enriched conditions. Seventy-three algal metrics, 62 macroinvertebrate metrics, and 60 fish metrics were evaluated for each of the three biotic indices. After a group of candidate metrics had been identified with multivariate analysis, correlation procedures and scatter plots were used to identify the four metrics having strongest relations to a nutrient index calculated from log transformed and normalized total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations. The four metrics selected for each of the three biotic indices were: algae—the relative abundance of most tolerant diatoms, the combined relative abundance of three species of Cymbella, mesosaprobic algae percent taxa richness, and the relative abundance of diatoms that are obligate nitrogen heterotrophs; macroinvertebrate—the relative abundance of intolerant organisms, Baetidae relative abundance, moderately tolerant taxa richness, and insect biomass; fish—herbivore and detritivore taxa richness, pool species relative abundance, fish catch per unit effort, and black bass (Micropterus spp.) relative abundance.All three biotic indices were negatively correlated to nutrient concentrations but the algal index had a higher correlation (rho = ?0.89) than did the macroinvertebrate and fish indices (rho = ?0.63 and ?0.58, respectively). Biotic index scores were lowest and nutrient concentrations were highest for streams with basins having the highest poultry and cattle production. Because of the availability of litter for fertilizer and associated increases in grass and hay production, cattle feeding capacity increases with poultry production. Studies are needed that address the synergistic effect of poultry and cattle production on Ozark streams in high production areas before ecological risks can be adequately addressed.  相似文献

Aquatic hyphomycetes are primary colonizers and decomposers of deciduous leaves decaying in streams. Conidial attachment to new substrata is a crucial first step in their life cycle, and the dominant spore morphologies – multiradiate or sigmoid – are assumed to have been shaped by convergent evolution to increase the probability of attachment to a substratum. Another factor influencing attachment success is roughness of the leaf's surface. In SEM preparations, we estimated the three roughness parameters Ra, Rz and Rq of upper and lower surfaces of linden (Tilia cordata), maple (Acer rubrum) and elm (Ulmus americana) leaves. Generally, roughness values were highest with linden and lowest with maple leaves, but the greatest roughness was measured on the lower surface of elm. In 48 h, target leaf disks captured approx. 20 % of the conidia released from stream-exposed inoculum disks in microcosms. Capture rates of the six surfaces correlated significantly with all three roughness parameters. Estimated R2 was around 0.4, indicating surface factors other than roughness influenced conidial attachment. The sigmoid conidia of Anguillospora filiformis were captured at a greater rate than the tetraradiate conidia of Articulospora tetracladia and Clavariopsis aquatica.  相似文献

Blackcurrants are rich in polyphenolic glycosides called anthocyanins, which may inhibit postprandial glycemia. The aim was to determine the dose-dependent effects of blackcurrant extract on postprandial glycemia. Men and postmenopausal women (14 M, 9 W, mean age 46 years, S.D.=14) were enrolled into a randomized, double-blind, crossover trial. Low sugar fruit drinks containing blackcurrant extract providing 150-mg (L-BE), 300-mg (M-BE) and 600-mg (H-BE) total anthocyanins or no blackcurrant extract (CON) were administered immediately before a high-carbohydrate meal. Plasma glucose, insulin and incretins (GIP and GLP-1) were measured 0–120 min, and plasma 8-isoprostane F, together with arterial stiffness by digital volume pulse (DVP) was measured at 0 and 120 min. Early plasma glucose response was significantly reduced following H-BE (n=22), relative to CON, with a mean difference (95% CI) in area over baseline (AOB) 0-30 min of −0.34 mmol/l.h (−0.56, −0.11, P<.005); there were no differences between the intermediate doses and placebo. Plasma insulin concentrations (AOB 0–30 min) were similarly reduced. Plasma GIP concentrations (AOB 0–120 min) were significantly reduced following H-BE, with a mean difference of −46.6 ng/l.h (−66.7, −26.5, P<.0001) compared to CON. Plasma GLP-1 concentrations were reduced following H-BE at 90 min. There were no effects on 8-isoprostane F or vascular function. Consumption of blackcurrant extract in amounts roughly equivalent to 100-g blackcurrants reduced postprandial glycemia, insulinemia and incretin secretion, which suggests that inclusion of blackcurrant polyphenols in foods may provide cardio-metabolic health benefits. A GH 26 endo-mannanase from Bacillus sp. CFR1601 was purified to homogeneity (Mw ∼39 kDa, specific activity 10,461.5 ± 100 IU/mg). Endo-mannanase gene (manb-1601, 1083 bp, accession No. KM404299) was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and showed typical fingerprints of α/β proteins in the far-UV CD. A high degree of conservation among amino acid residues involved in metal chelation (His-1, 23 and Glu-336) and internal repeats (122–152 and 181–212) was observed in endo-mannanases reported from various Bacillus sp. Thermal inactivation kinetics suggested that metal ions are quintessential for stabilization of ManB-1601 structure as holoenzyme (Ea 87.4 kcal/mol, ΔH 86.7 kcal/mol, ΔS 186.6 cal/k/mol) displayed better values of thermodynamic parameters compared to metal-depleted ManB-1601 (Ea 47 kcal/mol, ΔH 45.7 kcal/mol, ΔS 64.7 cal/k/mol). EDTA treatment of ManB-1601 not only lead to transitions in both secondary and tertiary structure but also promulgated the population of conformational state that unfolds at lower temperature. ManB-1601 followed a three-state process for thermal inactivation wherein loss of tertiary structure preceded the concurrent loss of secondary structure and activity.  相似文献

We examined the utility of nutrient criteria derived solely from total phosphorus (TP) concentrations in streams (regression models and percentile distributions) and evaluated their ecological relevance to diatom and algal biomass responses. We used a variety of statistics to characterize ecological responses and to develop concentration-based nutrient criteria (derived from ecological effects) for streams in Connecticut, USA, where urbanization is the primary cause of watershed alteration. Mean background TP concentration in the absence of anthropogenic land cover was predicted to be 0.017 mg/l, which was similar to the 25th percentile of all study sites. Increased TP concentrations were significantly correlated with altered diatom community structure, decreased percent low P diatoms and diatoms sensitive to impervious cover, and increased percent high P diatoms, diatoms that increase with greater impervious cover, and chlorophyll a (P < 0.01). Variance partitioning models showed that shared effects of anthropogenic land cover and chemistry (i.e., chemistry affected by land cover) represented the majority of explained variation in diatom metrics and chlorophyll a. Bootstrapped regression trees, threshold indicator taxa analysis, and boosted regression trees identified TP concentrations at which strong responses of diatom metrics and communities occurred, but these values varied among analyses. When considering ecological responses, scientifically defensible and ecologically relevant TP criteria were identified at (1) 0.020 mg/l for designating highest quality streams and restoration targets, above which sensitive taxa steeply declined, tolerant taxa increased, and community structure changed, (2) 0.040 mg/l, at which community level change points began to occur and sensitive diatoms were greatly reduced, (3) 0.065 mg/l, above which most sensitive diatoms were lost and tolerant diatoms steeply increased to their maxima, and (4) 0.082 mg/l, which appeared to be a saturated threshold, beyond which substantially altered community structure was sustained. These criteria can inform anti-degradation policies for high quality streams, discharge permit decisions, and future strategies for watershed development and managment. Our results indicated that management practices and decisions at the watershed scale will likely be important for improving degraded streams and conserving high quality streams. Results also emphasized the importance of incorporating ecological responses and considering the body of evidence from multiple conceptual approaches and statistical analyses for developing nutrient criteria, because solely relying on one approach could lead to misdirected decisions and resources.  相似文献

Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Coleoptera (EPTC) insect fauna were collected in ten streams located in the southeastern state of São Paulo (five located in areas with banana cultivation and five located in preserved areas). Specimens were collected during October and November 2005, using a Surber sampler and network D (0.25 mm mesh size) in areas of rapids and backwaters. The organisms collected were identified to genus level, except for some small or damaged specimens that remained at the family level. In total, 1812 individuals of EPTC were identified, in which 1105 organisms were from streams in areas of banana cultivation and 706 from streams in preserved areas. Heterelmis (Elmidae) was dominant in both sets of streams. In preserved streams, Hexacylloepus (Elmidae), Tupiperla and Paragrypopteryx (Gripopterygidae) and Nectopsyche (Leptoceridae) also had high participation. Leptonema (Hydropsychidae) and Xenelmis (Elmidae) were dominant in streams located in areas of banana cultivation. The analyses of indicator species point out to five taxa on preserved streams and two taxa in the banana streams. The forested streams had higher richness and diversity of EPTC than banana plantation streams. Correspondence analysis point for two groups, one gathered in the streams near the banana plantation and the other in the preserved streams. The similarity test (ANOSIM) pointed to significant differences (P < 0.05) between these groups. This agricultural activity seems to influence the EPTC community structure in low order streams in the Atlantic Forest region. The identification of groups at the EPTC genus level was important to point out the differences between the fauna of streams impacted by banana cultivation and to establish indicator species.  相似文献

Nutrient enrichment is a threat to botanical diversity in Europe, and its assessment is part of biodiversity monitoring schemes. In Switzerland, this is done by calculating the average nutrient (N) indicator value of the vegetation based on a country-wide systematic vegetation survey. However, it is questionable whether N values indicate eutrophication and resulting species loss equally well across an entire country, which includes wide topographic gradients and distinct biogeographic regions. Here we analyze vascular plant species lists from 415 grassland plots (10 m2) between 365 and 2770 m a.s.l. throughout Switzerland to investigate how the relationship between N value and species richness differs with altitude and among regions. The N value strongly decreased with altitude (piecewise regression: r2 = 0.77), particularly between 800 and 2000 m a.s.l., where this decrease was related to a decreasing proportion of fertilized grasslands. In the alpine belt, lower N values were associated with a greater frequency of acidic soils and a restricted species pool. Vascular plant species richness was maximal at intermediate altitude (piecewise regression: r2 = 0.33) and intermediate N value (polynomial regression: r2 = 0.46). When analyzed separately by altitudinal belt, the relationship between species richness and N value was negative in the lowlands and montane belt but unimodal in the subalpine belt. In the alpine belt, soil pH (R indicator values) explained most of the variation in species richness. Two indices of between-plot diversity (floristic dissimilarity and the contribution of individual plots to total species richness) were negatively related to N values from the lowlands to the subalpine belt but not in the alpine belt. All relationships differed little among the biogeographic regions of Switzerland, but they might be modified by changes in management and by the expansion of common lowland species into mountain grasslands.  相似文献

Benthic communities of macroinvertebrates, algae, and microorganisms were concurrently collected using a Surber sampler (30 × 30 m2; 300 μm mesh), brush (5 × 5 cm2), and syringe (100 mL; Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis), respectively, to determine the ecological integrity of streams with different levels of pollution. Macroinvertebrates provided a clearer representation of the gradient of pollution, while a broader scope of species distribution was observed for algae and microorganisms, including sites severely polluted with heavy metals. Species associations among different taxa were presented on the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) and Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) based on environmental factors. After screening, indicator species visualized on the SOM represented a wider range of environmental impacts and were more illustrative with benthic macroinvertebrates in least polluted sites. In contrast NMDS presented species more closely associated with overall variance of communities with severe pollution, mainly in microorganisms and algae. Multi-taxa community analysis using SOM and NMDS in combination would provide a comprehensive assessment for addressing ecological integrity in streams.  相似文献

Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the mechanisms that generate temporal and spatial species richness patterns. We tested four common hypotheses (water, energy, climatic heterogeneity and net primary productivity) to evaluate which factors best explain patterns of Zygoptera species richness. Of these, we predicted that climatic heterogeneity would be the most important predictor for Zygoptera richness patterns. We sampled communities of adult Zygoptera in 100 small Amazonian streams. Based on generalized linear mixed models (GLMM), we found that net primary productivity and climatic heterogeneity comprised the best model of Zygoptera species richness in Amazonian streams, with an pseudo r2 of 39.5%. Results indicate that species richness increases by one species per 1 kg of biomass per square meter in NPP, or with an increase of 2 °C in air temperature variability. Our work corroborates a recent study with other taxa in Brazilian Bioms. This suggests that temporal variation in climate and net primary productivity are important predictors of the macroecological patterns of richness for aquatic organisms in tropical regions.  相似文献

Trophic support functions for fishes are a key goal of salt marsh restoration. Food availability in restored sites may be enhanced by creation of shallow pools, which are important sources of prey items in tidal wetlands. Young restored salt marshes are typically sparsely vegetated and are subject to rapidly changing geomorphology. Scouring and sedimentation create and fill shallow depressions, producing a shifting mosaic of tidal pools. In a large (8-ha) southern California experimental restoration site, we created shallow pools and assessed their development of foods for fishes. Created pools quickly developed abundant invertebrate prey, with densities exceeding those found in older, naturally formed pools (P < 0.0001). Opportunistic mobile and disturbance-associated taxa (calanoid copepods, nematodes, Polydora complex, and Trichocorixa reticulata) accounted for higher invertebrate densities in created pools. We repeated experiments in spring, summer, and fall and found seasonal variability in trophic development. We also applied bottom-up (nitrogen addition) and top-down (fish exclusion) treatments to pools. Some measures of algal biomass were increased by nitrogen fertilization (P = 0.001–0.06), but there were no upward-cascading effects on invertebrate composition or abundance. Fish abundance in the site varied seasonally, but there were no compelling effects of fish exclusion treatments on algal or invertebrate abundance. Incorporating shallow depressions into salt marsh restoration projects is a potential tool to jumpstart fish-support functions.  相似文献

The avian fossil assemblages from the late Pleistocene deposits of the Rio Secco Cave (north-eastern Italy) is presented herein. We studied the layers that date back to the end of MIS3 and the beginning of MIS2, which also contain evidence of Gravettian frequentation dated to 33.5–30 ka cal BP. The systematic analysis revealed the presence of 18 species and other supraspecific taxa that supported palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. Taxa indicate that, at the onset of LGM, site surroundings were characterised by conifer or mixed forests, open grasslands, slow-flowing water bodies and mountain meadows with rocky outcrops, as indicated by Lagopus muta. Today, this environment is found above the tree line (beyond 1500–2000 m) and cannot be detected near the site, located at 580 m asl. Noteworthy, is also the finding of the second Italian late Pleistocene fossil record of Picus canus.  相似文献

The branched structure properties of hyperbranched polysaccharides (TM3a and TM3b), extracted from sclerotia of Pleurotus tuber-regium, were studied by using laser light scattering and viscometry. The configurational shrinking factor (g) and viscometric shrinking factor (g′) of TM3a and TM3b were discussed, where curdlan and pullulan were taken as the linear references for derivation of g and g′. The dependences of g factor, g′ factor, and Flory factor (Φbranched) on weight average molecular weight (Mw) were established to be g = 1.07 × 102Mw-0.48±0.09, g′ = 3.63 × 101Mw-0.43±0.01, and Φbranched = 7.08 × 1020Mw0.39±0.1 for TM3a in 0.25 M LiCl/DMSO at 25 °C, when curdlan acted as the linear reference. A power law relationship g = 2.71 × 10?1g?0.61±0.1 for TM3a was found, and the exponent was approximately same to 0.60 established by Kurata et al. for polystyrene star molecules. The dependence of g factor on Mw for TM3b was found to be g = 1.99 × 102Mw-0.53±0.02, when pullulan was used as the linear reference. On the basis of Zimm–Stockmayer equation for tetrafunctional units, molecular weight of branching unit (M0) deduced from nonlinear curve fitting of g versus Mw was 8739 ± 564 g/mol and 3961 ± 1245 g/mol for TM3a and TM3b, respectively. The effect of different linear reference curves and polydispersity was discussed. This work gave valuable information on branched structure characterization and insights into the biosynthetic pathways of the hyperbranched polysaccharide from fungus.  相似文献

In the last few million years, tropical Africa has experienced pronounced climatic shifts with progressive aridification. Such changes must have had a great impact on freshwater biota, such as Odonata. With about forty species, Trithemis dominates dragonfly communities across Africa, from rain-pools to streams, deserts to rainforests, and lowlands to highlands. Red-bodied species tend to favor exposed, standing and often temporary waters, have strong dispersal capacities, and some of the largest geographic ranges in the genus. Those in cooler habitats, like forest streams, are generally dark-bodied and more sedentary. We combined molecular analyses of ND1, 16S, and ITS (ITSI, 5.8S, and ITSII) with morphological, ecological, and geographical data for 81% of known Trithemis species, including three Asian and two Madagascan endemics. Using molecular clock analyses, the genus’s origin was estimated 6–9 Mya, with multiple lineages arising suddenly around 4 Mya. Open stagnant habitats were inferred to be ancestral and the rise of Trithemis may have coincided with savannah-expansion in the late Miocene. The adaptation of red species to more ephemeral conditions leads to large ranges and limited radiation within those lineages. By contrast, three clades of dark species radiated in the Plio-Pleistocene, each within distinct ecological confines: (1) lowland streams, (2) highland streams, and (3) swampy habitats on alternating sides of the Congo-Zambezi watershed divide; together giving rise to the majority of species diversity in the genus. During Trithemis evolution, multiple shifts from open to more forested habitats and from standing to running waters occurred. Allopatry by habitat fragmentation may be the dominant force in speciation, but possibly genetic divergence across habitat gradients was also involved. The study demonstrates the importance of combining ecological and phylogenetic data to understand the origin of biological diversity under great environmental change.  相似文献

Recent ecological changes in a small Scottish mountain loch, Loch Coire Fionnaraich (LCFR), were inferred using Cladocera analysis and an application of a Cladocera-based temperature transfer-function approach. Modern assemblages of Cladocera from 68 mountain lakes in Scotland and Norway were used to derive the transfer function. Among 21 measured environmental variables, mean summer lake surface-water temperature (LSWT) accounted for the highest (8%) variation in a redundancy analysis of the modern data. A quantitative inference model (r2 = 0.72, RMSEP = 1.81 °C) for summer LSWT was developed using linear partial least squares regression and calibration. The resulting reconstructed summer LSWT at LCFR was compared with local instrumental air-temperature records over the last 20 yr and the Central England Temperature (CET) series over the last 110 yr. The reconstruction showed a broadly similar pattern to the local instrumental temperature records. However, the relationship between the longer CET series and reconstructed summer LSWT was poor suggesting that the site was relatively insensitive to temperature changes prior to the recent warming of the last few decades. Clear changes in Cladoceran species diversity and relative abundance of littoral taxa coincident with the most recent period of climate warming recorded both locally and in the CET suggest that Cladocera do respond to climate change. However, their response to temperature is complex and indirect. The underlying mechanism leading to change in Cladocera assemblages may involve changes in trophic status and habitat availability of the system. It is concluded that understanding other factors such as atmospheric pollution, controls of community dynamics of Cladocera and the overall ecological complexity of mountain lakes is required before any reliance can be placed on a Cladocera-temperature transfer-function for reconstructing climatic change.  相似文献

Eligmodontia is a genus of phyllotine rodents adapted to arid environments with seven recognized species. The sister species E. puerulus and E. moreni are distributed in the adjacent highland Puna and lowland Monte deserts respectively, and show remarkable morphological and chromosomal differences. However, analyses of the cytochrome b gene showed important variability, without reciprocal monophyly between them. In order to study the evolutionary processes involved in the diversification of both taxa, we analyzed 1161 bp of the mitochondrial control region and flanking sequences (N = 60), as well as 759 bp of the first exon of the nuclear gene IRBP (N = 14). Individuals of both species from Jujuy, Catamarca and Mendoza Provinces of Argentina were previously karyotyped. Results showed that the mitochondrial sequences present high haplotype and nucleotide diversity within all population, and no haplotype was shared between both species. FST indicated that populations of both species were moderately structured. The network was constituted by two major haplogroups, one composed by E. puerulus samples from Jujuy, and the other composed of sequences of all studied populations. The Bayesian analysis showed three clusters, matching the network. Phylogenetic analysis recovered two clades with high support, in coincidence with the network groups. There was only one close join between sequences of both species, corresponding to samples from Catamarca. Thus, mitochondrial data suggested hybridization between both species in Catamarca, with asymmetric introgression. The IRBP showed low variability and, in the phylogenetic analysis, the sequences of E. puerulus form a monophyletic group with intermediate support, whereas those of E. moreni collapse into a basal polytomy. Our data indicated a recent divergence and absence of introgression in the nuclear genomes. The results at the population level with mitochondrial sequences, together with integrative taxonomy at the species level in a biogeographic context, suggest that climatic and geologic changes could have had an important role in the determination of genetic variability patterns observed in these rodents.  相似文献
