Physiological cross-section of the human jaw muscles   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The cross-sectional areas of the masseter, temporalis, medial pterygoid and lateral pterygoid muscles were determined by means of computer tomography in 16 male subjects with healthy dentitions. The physiological cross-section (PCS) of these muscles was predicted from the previously determined relationship between PCS and scan cross-sections. In our subjects, mean total PCS of the jaw muscles was twice as high as in cadavers with few natural teeth. The average distribution of total PCS over the four muscles was the same in the two groups. There was considerable individual variation. Strong correlations in cross-sectional area were only found between the masseter and medial pterygoid muscles. Variation in PCS of these two muscles determines 80% of the variation in combined cross-sectional area.  相似文献

Models of mastication require knowledge of fiber lengths and physiological cross-sectional area (PCS), a proxy for muscle force. I dissected 36 medial pterygoid and 36 lateral pterygoid muscles from 30 adult females of 3 macaque species (Macaca fascicularis, M. mulatta, M. nemestrina) using gross and chemical techniques and calculated PCS. These macaques have mechanically similar dietary niches and exhibit no significant difference in muscle architecture or fiber length. Fiber length does not scale with body size (mass) for either total pterygoid muscle or for medial pterygoid muscle mass. However, fiber length scales weakly with lateral pterygoid muscle mass. In each case, differences in PCS among species result from differences in muscle mass not fiber length. Medial pterygoid PCS scales isometrically with body size; larger animals have greater force production capabilities. Medial and lateral pterygoid PCS scale positively allometrically with facial size; individuals with more prognathic faces and taller mandibular corpora have greater PCS, and hence force, values. This positive allometry counters the less efficient positioning of masticatory muscles in longer-faced macaques. PCS is only weakly correlated with bone proxies previously used to estimate muscle force. Thus, predictions of muscle force from bone parameters will entail large margins of error and should be used with caution.  相似文献

Cross-sections (thickness 10 microns) of whole autopsied left and right anterior tibialis muscles of seven young previously healthy right-handed men (mean age 23 years, range 18-32 years) were prepared for light-microscope enzyme histochemistry. Muscle cross-sectional area and total number of fibres, mean fibre size (indirectly determined) and proportion of the different fibre types (type 1 and type 2 on basis of myofibrillar adenosine triphosphatase characteristics), in each muscle cross-section were determined. The analysis showed that the cross-sectional area of the left muscle was significantly larger (P less than 0.05), and the total number of fibres was significantly higher (P less than 0.05), than for the corresponding right muscle. There was no significant difference for the mean fibre size or the proportion of the two fibre types. The results imply that long-term asymmetrical low-level daily demands on muscles of the left and the right lower leg in right-handed individuals provide enough stimuli to induce an enlargement of the muscles on the left side, and that this enlargement is due to an increase in the number of muscle fibres (fibre hyperplasia). Calculations based on the data also explain why the underlying process of hyperplasia is difficult, or even impossible, to detect in standard muscle biopsies.  相似文献

We present an improved method for microphotometric measurement of enzyme activity in muscle fibres by determining maximum reaction rates using computer-assisted image analysis. The method was used to determine absolute and relative activities of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in 4801 whole-fibre cross-sections of rabbit tibialis anterior muscles stimulated at low frequency (10 Hz) for different time periods of up to 50 days. Measurements were performed on cross-sections of composite blocks from stimulated and contralateral control muscles. The validity of the method was checked by determining SDH activity in homogenates of the same muscles using a standard photometric assay. Both methods yielded similar results for the time-dependent increases of SDH activity in response to chronic low-frequency stimulation. Significant increases in catalytic activity were detected by the two methods only in muscles stimulated for longer than 8 days. According to homogenate measurements, overall SDH activity was 7.4-fold elevated in 50-day-stimulated total muscles. Depending on whether or not measurements were corrected for the so-called nothing-dehydrogenase activity, the average increase in microphotometrically determined SDH activity amounted to approximately 8-fold or 10-fold, respectively. Microphotometry revealed pronounced scattering of SDH activities within the fibre populations of both normal and stimulated muscles. The heterogeneity of the fibre population with regard to SDH activity increased in long-term stimulated muscles ranging between 5-fold and 15-fold elevations. Accepted: 2 September 1996  相似文献

A comparative study of the quantitative data of the frog extraocular muscles and the cranial nerves that innervate them was performed. Oculorotatory muscles contain muscle fibres of at least 4 types which are arranged in heterogeneous layers. The zonal arrangement of the muscles does not occur on the cross-sections in the vicinity of muscle insertions. In these regions only two muscle fibre types are present and the total number of fibres is smaller by 70% than in the central region of the muscle. Most numerous are muscle fibres in the rectus inferior muscle, while the smallest number of fibres is found in rectus interior muscle. Three distinct types of nerve fibres are distinguished according to the following criteria: occurrence and thickness of myelin sheath, fibre diameter and ratio "g". The fibres with thin myelin sheaths indicate small diameters (1-5--6- mum) and their ratio "g" equals 0-82 +/- 0-08. They constitute about 30% of the myelinated fibres in the nerve supply of the oculorotatory muscles and about 14% in the supply of the retractor bulbi muscle. Both the value of the ratio "g" and a greater number of these fibres in the nerve supply of the muscles that contain slow contracting muscle fibres indicate that they are rather slow conducting nerve fibres. The range of the diameters of the fibres with thick myelin sheaths is greater (3-5--13-5 mum) and their "g" equals 0-66 +/- 0-06. These fibres constitute about 70% of the myelinated ones in the nerve supply of the oculorotatory muscles and 86% in the supply of the retractor bulbi muscles. The value of the ratio "g" in these fibres indicates that they are fast contracting ones. The smallest diameters are found in the myelinated fibres (0-5--1-7 mum). These fibres occur frequently in all the examined nerves; they constitute 36--47% of the total number of all the nerve fibres. The frog extraocular muscles are characterized by an abundal nerve supply which is reflected in the low innervation ratio (1:4--1:5). On the distal cross-section of nerves the number of nerve fibres is greater than on the proximal ones. Ganglionic neurons occur sporadically around the nerves; in the nerve III synaptic contacts between two neurons were observed.  相似文献

Background

Porcine congenital splayleg (PCS) is the most important congenital condition of piglets, associated with lameness and immobility, of unknown aetiology and pathogenesis, hence the need to better understand the condition by defining, in the first instance, its histopathology and molecular pathology.

Results

Semitendinosus, longissimus dorsi, and gastrocnemius muscles were removed from 4 sets of 2-day-old splayleg piglets, each with a corresponding normal litter mate. Based on immunohistochemistry and histological image analysis, PCS piglets showed significantly smaller fibre size without any accompanying sign of inflammation. Although there was no dramatic change in fibre type composition in affected muscles, several structural myosin heavy chain genes were significantly down-regulated. MAFbx, a major atrophy marker, was highly up-regulated in nearly all PCS muscles, in comparison with controls from normal litter mates. In contrast, P311, a novel 8 kDa protein, was relatively down-regulated in all the PCS muscles. To investigate a functional role of P311 in skeletal muscle, its full-length cDNA was over-expressed in murine C2C12 muscle cells, which resulted in enhanced cell proliferation with reduced myotube formation. Hence, reduced P311 expression in PCS piglets might contribute to atrophy through reduced muscle cell proliferation. P311, predictably, was down-regulated by the over-expression of calcineurin, a key signalling factor of muscle differentiation.

Conclusion

We demonstrated that PCS is a condition characterised by extensive fibre atrophy and raised fibre density, and propose that the combined differential expression of MAFbx and P311 is of potential in the diagnosis of subclinical PCS.  相似文献

To gain a better understanding of biting and chewing performance, the size and orientation of the masseter and medial pterygoid muscles in living humans were studied. Twenty-seven young males having complete dentition, class I dental occlusion and normal muscle and jaw function were examined using magnetic resonance images of the head between the zygomatic arch and hyoid bone. The sections were parallel to the palatal plane, and the thickness was 3 mm without a gap. A computer software program (Medical Dental Image, MDI) was developed to identify and calculate the area of each cross section of the muscle, and the volume of the muscle was then estimated. The axis of the muscle was determined by connecting the centroids of the sections in the lower and upper 1/3 of the whole muscle. The effective muscle cross section area was then calculated by resectioning the muscle perpendicularly to the muscle axis. It was found that the mean masseter muscle volume was around 31 cm3, and that the mean medial pterygoid muscle volume was 11 cm3. Their mean effective cross section areas were around 6.2 cm2 and 3.5 cm2, respectively. The axis of the masseter muscle was more perpendicular to the palatal plane and parallel to the sagittal plane than was the medial pterygoid muscle. The results suggest that the use of magnetic resonance images (MRI) is an effective noninvasive measurement technique for determining the size and orientation of masseter and medial pterygoid muscles. This technique can be employed in future studies on human bite force evaluation and masticatory function.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of androgen receptors (AR) in human vastus lateralis and trapezius muscles and to determine whether long-term strength training and self-administration of androgenic-anabolic steroids are accompanied by changes in AR content. Biopsy samples were taken from eight high-level power-lifters (P), nine high-level power-lifters who used anabolic steroids (PAS) and six untrained subjects (U). Myonuclei and AR were visualised in cross-sections stained with the monoclonal antibody against AR and 4’,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole. The proportion of AR-containing myonuclei per fibre cross-section was higher in the trapezius than in the vastus lateralis (P<0.05). In the trapezius, the proportion of AR-containing myonuclei was higher in P compared to U and in PAS compared to both P and U (P<0.05). On the contrary, in the vastus lateralis, there were no differences in AR content between the three groups. Myonuclear number in both muscles was higher in P compared to U and in PAS compared to both P and U (P<0.05). In conclusion, AR content differs greatly between human neck and limb muscles. Moreover, the regulation of AR-containing myonuclei following training and self-administration of androgenic-anabolic steroids is muscle dependent. Accepted: 15 October 1999  相似文献

Myosin-ATPase fibre typing revealed type 1 predominance (81%) in the human oesophagus and type 2 predominance in the pharyngeal constrictor (33% type 1) indicative of widely different functions. Fibre diameters were around 30 microns, significantly smaller than skeletal muscle. No significant change in mean fibre diameter or percentage of fibre type was seen with ageing, but atrophy and compensatory hypertrophy led to an increased variability in fibre diameters with age. No sex differences were observed, probably reflecting a similar usage of these muscles and contrasting with skeletal muscle.  相似文献

The characteristics of serial cross-sections of hairs collected from an adult male Japanese monkey were investigated. Cross-sections were made of five to eight pieces per hair. The shapes of the cross-sections were elliptical or rounded on the whole. The fibre indices of the sections ranged from 83 to 100. In particular, those of proximal (basal) sections were close to 100. The hair diameter was 86.4 μ at maximum and 27.2 μ at minimum. A tendency was observed for the longer hairs to have thicker diameters. The changes in thickness along the fibre shaft were slightly different in relation to hair length. The thickest point was at around the middle of the fibre in the intermediate hair, somewhat towards the top of the central part in the long hair, and somewhat towards the base in the short hair. The hair of the Japanese monkey, however, was considered to be scanty in changes along the fibre shaft in comparison with many other animals. Medullae could scarcely be seen in the short hair and in the terminal and proximal sections of all hairs. Their shapes in cross-section were not uniform and rough at the margins. The fibre-medulla indices were generally less than 30 and smaller than those of many other mammals. Pigmentary granules were observed in all sections examined. The granules were black-grey in sections of the black-grey coloured part and yellow in the yellowish sections. They were dense in distal sections and scarce in sections close to the base. The cross-sectional appearance of the thickest part of the long hair was considered to be useful for hair identification, since it was good in pigmentation and medullation and relatively small fibre index.  相似文献

A quantitative study has been made of the ultrastructure and vascularization of slow fibres in the lateral muscles of the European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus). Mitochondria and myofibrils occupy 45.5 and 44.3% of total fibre volume respectively. More than 95% of all myofibrils are adjacent to mitchondria. A total of 51 % of the sarcolemma is in direct contact with capillaries with a mean of 12.9 capillaries per fibre. In transverse sections anchovy slow fibr es are considerably flattened (long to short axis 12:1) such that the surface to volume ratio is more than twice that of a cylindrical fibre of the same area (1115 μm2). The capillary surface required to supply l μm3 of mitochondria is 0.18 μm2 and the maximum distance between any capillary and mitochondrion 8 μm. T-system and sarcoplasmic reticulum occupy 0.43 and 2.7% of fibre volume respectively. Adaptations for increasing the capacity of skeletal muscle for aerobic work are discussed.  相似文献

Morphometric analysis of mitochondria in skeletal muscles and heart of 6- and 60-month-old naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber) revealed a significant age-dependent increase in the total area of mitochondrial cross-sections in studied muscle fibers. For 6- and 60-month-old animals, these values were 4.8 ± 0.4 and 12.7 ± 1.8%, respectively. This effect is mainly based on an increase in the number of mitochondria. In 6-month-old naked mole rats, there were 0.23 ± 0.02 mitochondrial cross-sections per μm2 of muscle fiber, while in 60-month-old animals this value was 0.47 ± 0.03. The average area of a single mitochondrial cross-section also increased with age in skeletal muscles–from 0.21 ± 0.01 to 0.29 ± 0.03 μm2. Thus, naked mole rats show a drastic enlargement of the mitochondrial apparatus in skeletal muscles with age due to an increase in the number of mitochondria and their size. They possess a neotenic type of chondriome accompanied by specific features of mitochondrial functioning in the state of oxidative phosphorylation and a significant decrease in the level of matrix adenine nucleotides.  相似文献

Summary The fine structure of the M-band in soleus (SOL) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles in newborn and four-week-old rats was studied using electron-microscopic techniques. In newborn rats, all myotubes and fibres in both muscles had an identical myofibrillar appearance. A five-line M-band pattern was seen in longitudinal sections and distinct M-bridges in cross-sections. The Z-discs were of medium width. On the other hand, in four-week-old rats, different muscle fibre types were observed on the basis of their myofibrillar pattern. In SOL two fibre types were distinguished in longitudinal sections. One had a four-line M-band pattern and very broad Z-discs, whereas the other type had five lines in the M-band and broad Z-discs. In EDL, three different myofibrillar patterns were observed. The M-bands were composed of three, four or five lines. Fibres had either thin, broad or medium Z-disc widths, respectively. In cross-sections of the SOL muscle one group of fibres showed indistinct M-bridges, whereas distinct M-bridges were seen in the other fibres and in all observed EDL muscle fibres. We conclude that initially there seems to be a single intrinsic program for M-band genesis; this program becomes modified upon the induction of functionally differentiated fibres.  相似文献

The motor innervation of cat spindles was examined in hindlimb muscles using a variety of techniques employed in light and electron microscopy. Observations were made on teased, silver preparations of 267 spindles sampled from the peroneal, flexor hallucis longus, and soleus muscles, hereafter referred to as the PER/FHL/SOL series. The γ innervation. Trail endings are almost invariably present, and innervate both bag and chain muscle fibres. Trail fibres accounted for 64.6 to 74.8% of the total fusimotor supply to samples of spindle poles in the PER/FHL/SOL series, the mean number of fibres per pole varying from 2.7 to 5.0 in the different muscles, and the mean number of ramifications (areas of synaptic contact) per fibre being 3.7. By contrast, the p?innervation of a spindle pole generally consists of a single fibre supplying only one plate. In the above samples p(2) fibres accounted for 4.1 to 28.0% of the total fusimotor supply, and the mean number of fibres per pole varied from 0.3 to 1.2 in the different muscles. Ninety per cent of p(2) plates innervate bag fibres. The α innervation. The structure of p?plates as seen in both light and electron microscopy compares very closely with that of extrafusal plates. After nerve section p?plates degenerate at the same time as extrafusal plates, being the first of the three types of fusimotor ending to disappear. The frequency of the p?innervation is similar to that of the p?innervation. In the same samples of PER/FHL/SOL spindle poles as above p? fibres accounted for 6.0 to 28.8% of the total fusimotor supply, the mean number of fibres per pole varying from 0.25 to 2.1 in the different muscles. The majority of p? fibres enter a pole to terminate in one plate only. Seventy-five per cent of the plates innervate bag fibres. The three types of fusimotor ending are thus not selectively distributed to the two types of intrafusal muscle fibre. All three types of fusimotor fibre may branch within the spindle so as to innervate both bag and chain fibres. Bag fibres receive both types of plate ending as well as trail endings. Most chain fibres receive trail endings only; the rest receive either a p?or a p?plate innervation in addition, 25% of the p?and 10% of the p?innervation being distributed to chain fibres. The significance of this nonselective innervation is interpreted as indicating that the type of contraction elicited by stimulating a fusimotor fibre depends upon the type of ending initiating it rather than upon the type of muscle fibre executing it. Reasons are given for concluding that the dynamic response is controlled via the p?and p?plates, and that the static response is controlled by the trail endings. The participation of the α fibres in mammalian fusimotor innervation, previously regarded as a vestigial feature, proved to be widespread in the muscles studied and more prevalent in fast muscles (FHL, peroneus digiti quinti) than slow (soleus). A low frequency of p?innervation is offset by a high frequency of p?(as in peroneus longus), and vice versa (as in FHL). It is unlikely that collaterals from slow α fibres innervating type B muscle fibres are wholly responsible for the high frequency of the p?innervation in FHL, and it is suggested that collaterals may also be derived from fast α fibres innervating type C muscle fibres. The possibility of there being some motor fibres of α conduction velocity and with an exclusively fusimotor distribution is also taken into account.  相似文献

The relationship between human craniofacial morphology and the biomechanical efficiency of bite force generation in widely varying muscular and skeletal types is unknown. To address this problem, we selected 22 subjects with different facial morphologies and used magnetic resonance imaging, cephalometric radiography, and data from dental casts to reconstruct their craniofacial tissues in three dimensions. Conventional cephalometric analyses were carried out, and the cross-sectional sizes of the masseter and medial pterygoid muscles were measured from reconstituted sections. The potential abilities of the muscles to generate bite forces at the molar teeth and mandibular condyles were calculated according to static equilibrium theory using muscle, first molar, and condylar moment arms. On average, the masseter muscle was about 66% larger in cross section than the medial pterygoid and was inclined more anteriorly relative to the functional occlusal plane. There was a significant positive correlation (P less than 0.01) between the cross-sectional areas of the masseter and medial pterygoid muscles (r = 0.75) and between the bizygomatic arch width and masseter cross-sectional area (r = 0.56) and medial pterygoid cross-sectional area (r = 0.69). The masseter muscle was always a more efficient producer of vertically oriented bite force than the medial pterygoid. Putative bite force from the medial pterygoid muscle alone correlated positively with mandibular length and inversely with upper face height. When muscle and tooth moment arms were considered together, a system efficient at producing force on the first molar was statistically associated with a face having a large intergonial width, small intercondylar width, narrow dental arch, forward maxilla, and forward mandible. There was no significant correlation between muscle cross-sectional areas and their respective putative bite forces. This suggests that there is no simple relationship between the tension-generating capacity of the muscles and their mechanical efficiency as described by their spatial arrangement. The study shows that in a modern human population so many combinations of biomechanically relevant variables are possible that subjects cannot easily be placed into ideal or nonideal categories for producing molar force. Our findings also confirm the impression that similar bite-force efficiencies can be found in subjects with disparate facial features.  相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to study the distribution of satellite cells in slow (type I fibres) and fast (type II fibres) fibres from human vastus lateralis muscle. This muscle is characterised by a mixed fibre type composition and is considered as the site of choice for biopsies in research work and for clinical diagnosis. Biopsy samples were obtained from five healthy young volunteers and a total of 1,747 type I fibres and 1,760 type II fibres were assessed. Satellite cells and fibre type composition were studied on serial muscle cross-sections stained with specific monoclonal antibodies. From a total of 218 satellite cells, 116 satellite cells were found in contact with type I fibres (53.6±8% of the satellite cells associated to type I fibres) and 102 satellite cells in contact with type II fibres (46.4±8% of the satellite cells associated to type II fibres). There was no significant difference (P=0.4) between the percentages of satellite cells in contact with type I and with type II fibres. Additionally, there was no relationship between the mean number of satellite cells per fibre and the mean cross-sectional area of muscle fibres. In conclusion, our results show that there is no fibre type-specific distribution of satellite cells in a human skeletal muscle with mixed fibre type composition.  相似文献

'Tonic' and 'phasic' muscle fibre types can be distinguished histologically, using either histochemical techniques or by staining for lipid with Sudan black B. As muscles of mastication not only move the lower jaw of the rat, a 'phasic' action, but also suspend it from the cranium, a 'tonic' activity, some indication of the contribution of the major muscles to these functions has been gained from an examination of the fibre content of transverse frozen sections stained with Sudan black B. The numbers of 'pale' ('phasic') and 'dark' ('tonic') fibres were counted using a montage at a magnification of 60. Results suggest that the anterior temporal, deep masseter and external pterygoid have an important tonic action in stabilizing the position of the lower jaw as well as contributing to the production of movement; and that the superficial masseter and posterior temporal, in particular, have an almost completely phasic action. These conclusions are entirely consistent with the probable functions of the muscles inferred from their anatomy.  相似文献

We have previously shown that electrical stimulation of the thoracic spinal cord produces near maximal activation of the inspiratory intercostal muscles. In the present investigation, we used this technique to evaluate the relative capacity of separate external (EI) and parasternal intercostal (PA) muscle contraction to produce changes in airway pressure and inspired volume. Studies were performed in 23 anesthetized phrenicotomized dogs. Electrical stimuli were applied to the spinal cord after hyperventilation-induced apnea, before and after sequentially severing either the PA or EI muscles from the first through sixth intercostal spaces. During spinal cord stimulation (SCS), measurements were made of inspired volume (delta V) with the airway open and negative airway pressure (delta P) during tracheal occlusion. Compared with control values, sectioning of the PA muscles resulted in a 40.9% reduction in delta P and 35.7% reduction in delta V during SCS. In other animals, initial sectioning of the EI muscles produced reductions in delta P and delta V of 67.4 and 63.0, respectively, during SCS. After subsequent section of the PA muscles, SCS produced only negligible inspired volumes and changes in airway pressure. We conclude that 1) the EI and PA muscles are each capable of generating substantial changes in airway pressure and large inspired volumes and 2) the ventilatory capacity of the EI muscles exceeds that of the PA muscles.  相似文献

Regenerative potential of human skeletal muscle during aging   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In this study, we have investigated the consequences of aging on the regenerative capacity of human skeletal muscle by evaluating two parameters: (i) variation in telomere length which was used to evaluate the in vivo turn-over and (ii) the proportion of satellite cells calculated as compared to the total number of nuclei in a muscle fibre. Two skeletal muscles which have different types of innervation were analysed: the biceps brachii, a limb muscle, and the masseter, a masticatory muscle. The biopsies were obtained from two groups: young adults (23 +/- 1.15 years old) and aged adults (74 +/- 4.25 years old). Our results showed that during adult life, minimum telomere lengths and mean telomere lengths remained stable in the two muscles. The mean number of myonuclei per fibre was lower in the biceps brachii than in the masseter but no significant change was observed in either muscle with increasing age. However, the number of satellite cells, expressed as a proportion of myonuclei, decreased with age in both muscles. Therefore, normal aging of skeletal muscle in vivo is reflected by the number of satellite cells available for regeneration, but not by the mean number of myonuclei per fibre or by telomere lengths. We conclude that a decrease in regenerative capacity with age may be partially explained by a reduced availability of satellite cells.  相似文献

Lower thoracic spinal cord stimulation (SCS) results in the generation of large positive airway pressures (Paw) and may be a useful method of restoring cough in patients with spinal cord injury. The purpose of the present study was to assess the mechanical contribution of individual respiratory muscles to pressure generation during SCS. In anesthetized dogs, SCS was applied at different spinal cord levels by using a 15-lead multicontact electrode before and after sequential ablation of the external and internal obliques, transversus abdominis (TA), rectus abdominis, and internal intercostal muscles. Paw was monitored after tracheal occlusion. SCS at the T(9) spinal cord level resulted in maximal changes in Paw (60 +/- 3 cmH(2)O). Section of the oblique muscles resulted in a fall in Paw to 29 +/- 2 cmH(2)O. After subsequent section of the rectus abdominis and TA, Paw fell to 25 +/- 2 and 12 +/- 1 cmH(2)O respectively. There was a small remaining Paw (4 +/- 1 cmH(2)O) after section of the internal intercostal nerves. Stimulation with a two-electrode lead system (T(9) + T(13)) resulted in significantly greater pressure generation compared with a single-electrode lead due to increased contributions from the obliques and transversus muscles. In a separate group of animals, Paw generation was monitored after section of the abdominal muscles and again after section of the external intercostal and levator costae muscles. These studies demonstrated that inspiratory intercostal muscle stimulation resulted in only a small opposing inspiratory action (相似文献
