Diets formulated to maximize performance of weanling pigs need to support the development of intestinal tissue, support intestinal colonization with beneficial, mainly lactic acid-producing bacteria, and support development of the intestinal and overall immune system. This objective is not likely to be achieved using one single strategy, but there is strong evidence that diets formulated with cereal grains other than corn, with a low concentration of crude protein and with the use of direct-fed microbials, will improve intestinal health and performance of weanling pigs. Further improvements may be observed if the grain part of the diet is fermented prior to feeding or if the diet is fed in a liquid form, but the need for specialized equipment limit the implementation of this strategy. Dietary supplements such as essential oils and nucleosides or nucleotides may also be useful, but more research is needed to verify the effects of these substances.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate if adjustments in diet formulations either based on total analysed amino acids or standardized ileal digestible (SID) amino acids may be used to eliminate negative effects of including heat-damaged soybean meal (SBM) or heat-damaged corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in diets fed to weanling pigs. In Experiment 1, four corn–SBM diets were formulated. Diet 1 contained non-autoclaved SBM (315 g/kg), and this diet was formulated on the basis of analysed amino acid concentrations and using SID values from the AminoDat® 4.0 database. Diet 2 was similar to Diet 1 in terms of ingredient composition, except that the non-autoclaved SBM was replaced by autoclaved SBM at 1 : 1 (weight basis). Diet 3 was formulated using autoclaved SBM and amino acid inclusions in the diet were adjusted on the basis of analysed total amino acid concentrations in the autoclaved SBM and published SID values for non-autoclaved SBM (AminoDat® 4.0). Diet 4 also contained autoclaved SBM, but the formulation of this diet was adjusted on the basis of analysed amino acids in the autoclaved SBM and SID values that were adjusted according to the degree of heat damage in this source of SBM. Pigs (160; initial BW: 10.4 kg) were allotted to the four treatments with eight replicate pens per treatment in a randomized complete block design. Diets were fed to pigs for 21 days. The gain to feed ratio (G : F) was greater (P<0.05) for pigs fed Diet 1 compared with pigs fed the other diets and pigs fed Diet 4 had greater (P<0.05) G : F than pigs fed Diet 2. In Experiment 2, 144 pigs (initial BW: 9.9 kg) were allotted to four diets with eight replicate pens per diet. The four diets contained corn, SBM (85 g/kg) and DDGS (220 g/kg), and were formulated using the concepts described for Experiment 1, except that heat-damaged DDGS, but not heat-damaged SBM, was used in the diets. Pigs fed Diet 1 had greater (P<0.05) G : F than pigs fed Diet 2, but no differences were observed for G : F among pigs fed diets containing autoclaved DDGS. Results demonstrate that the negative effects of heat damage of SBM or DDGS may be ameliorated if the reduced concentration and digestibility of amino acids in heat-damaged SBM or DDGS is taken into account in diet formulation. Further research is needed to improve the prediction of the ileal digestibility of amino acids in heat-processed ingredients used in practical diet formulations.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine whether a cortisol surge mediates the enhanced expression of intestinal ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) in weanling pigs. Piglets were nursed by sows until 21 days of age, when 40 pigs were randomly assigned into one of four groups (10 animals/group). Group 1 continued to be fed by sows, whereas groups 2-4 were weaned to a corn and soybean meal-based diet. Weanling pigs received intramuscular injections of vehicle solvent (sesame oil), RU-486 (a potent blocker of glucocorticoid receptors; 10 mg/kg body wt), and metyrapone (an inhibitor of adrenal cortisol synthesis; 5 mg/kg body wt), respectively, 5 min before weaning and 24 and 72 h later. At 29 days of age, pigs were used to prepare jejunal enterocytes for ODC assay and metabolic studies. To determine polyamine (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) synthesis, enterocytes were incubated for 45 min at 37 degrees C in 2 ml Krebs-bicarbonate buffer containing 1 mM [U-(14)C]arginine, 1 mM [U-(14)C]ornithine, 1 mM [U-(14)C]glutamine, or 1 mM [U-(14)C]proline plus 1 mM glutamine. Weaning increased intestinal ODC activity by 230% and polyamine synthesis from ornithine, arginine, and proline by 72-157%. Arginine was a quantitatively more important substrate than proline for intestinal polyamine synthesis in weaned pigs. Administration of RU-486 or metyrapone to weanling pigs prevented the increases in intestinal ODC activity and polyamine synthesis, reduced intracellular polyamine concentrations, and decreased villus heights and intestinal growth. Our results demonstrate an essential role for a cortisol surge in enhancing intestinal polyamine synthesis during weaning, which may be of physiological importance for intestinal adaptation and remodeling.  相似文献

This study determined the effects of dietary branched-chain amino acids (AA) (BCAA) on growth performance, expression of jejunal AA and peptide transporters, and the colonic microflora of weanling piglets fed a low-protein (LP) diet. One hundred and eight Large White × Landrace × Duroc piglets (weaned at 28 days of age) were fed a normal protein diet (NP, 20.9 % crude protein), an LP diet (LP, 17.1 % crude protein), or an LP diet supplemented with BCAA (LP + BCAA, 17.9 % crude protein) for 14 days. Dietary protein restriction reduced piglet growth performance and small-intestinal villous height, which were restored by BCAA supplementation to the LP diet to values for the NP diet. Serum concentrations of BCAA were reduced in piglets fed the LP diet while those in piglets fed the LP + BCAA diet were similar to values for the NP group. mRNA levels for Na+-neutral AA exchanger-2, cationic AA transporter-1, b0,+ AA transporter, and 4F2 heavy chain were more abundant in piglets fed the LP + BCAA diet than the LP diet. However, mRNA and protein levels for peptide transporter-1 were lower in piglets fed the LP + BCAA diet as compared to the LP diet. The colonic microflora did not differ among the three groups of pigs. In conclusion, growth performance, intestinal development, and intestinal expression of AA transporters in weanling piglets are enhanced by BCAA supplementation to LP diets. Our findings provide a new molecular basis for further understanding of BCAA as functional AA in animal nutrition.  相似文献

Feeding experiments with mixtures of purified amino acids show that arginine, leucine, phenylalanine, and valine are required for good growth of weanling pigs. The pig resembles the rat in its ability to synthesize part, but not all of the arginine required. It is now possible to tentatively classify the known amino acids with respect to major growth effects in weanling pigs. The amino acids which must be present in the diet for good growth are arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. The remaining amino acids may be tentatively classed as dispensable.  相似文献

One hundred-eighty piglets (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire), with an average initial weight of 7.4?kg weaned at 27?±?1?days of age, were used to evaluate the effects of dietary zinc oxide?Cmontmorillonite hybrid (ZnO?CMMT) on growth performance, diarrhea, intestinal mucosal integrity, and digestive enzyme activity. All pigs were allotted to five treatments and fed with the basal diets supplemented with 0, 250, 500, and 750?mg/kg of Zn as ZnO?CMMT or 2,000?mg/kg of Zn as ZnO. The results showed that supplementation with 500 or 750?mg/kg of Zn from ZnO?CMMT and 2,000?mg/kg of Zn from ZnO improved average daily gain, enhanced average daily feed intake, decreased fecal scores at 4, 8, and 14?days postweaning, reduced intestinal permeability which was evident from the reduced lactulose recovery and urinary lactulose/mannitol ratio, and improved the activities of protease, amylase, lipase, trypsin, and chymotrypsin both in pancreas and small intestinal contents of pigs as compared with the control. Supplemental 250?mg/kg of Zn from ZnO?CMMT also decreased fecal scores at 8 and 14?days postweaning, decreased urinary lactulose/mannitol ratio, and improved chymotrypsin activity in pancreas and small intestinal contents as well as protease activity in small intestinal contents compared with control. Moreover, the above indexes of weanling pigs fed with 500 or 750?mg/kg of Zn as ZnO?CMMT did not differ from those fed with 2,000?mg/kg of Zn as ZnO. The results demonstrated that supplementation with 500 or 750?mg/kg of Zn from ZnO?CMMT was as efficacious as 2,000?mg/kg of Zn from ZnO in improving growth performance, alleviating postweaning diarrhea, and enhancing intestinal mucosal integrity and the digestive enzyme activities in pancreas and small intestinal contents of pigs. The results that feeding lower concentrations of ZnO?CMMT to weanling pigs maintained performance will be beneficial for the environment and for sustaining swine production.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of free amino acids supplementation to protein restricted diet on the intestinal morphology and proteome composition in weaning pigs. Weanling piglets were randomly fed one of the three diets including a corn-soybean based control diet and two lower protein diets with or without free amino acids supplementation for 2 weeks. The jejunum samples of piglets were collected for morphology and proteome analysis. Compared with the control diet, the protein restricted diet had a significant lower average daily gain and higher feed conversion rate. Free amino acids supplementation to the protein restricted diet significantly improved average daily gain and higher feed conversion rate, compared with the protein restricted diet. The villous height in pigs fed the protein restricted diet was lower than that of the control and free amino acids diet. Using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, we identified 16 differentially expressed protein spots in the jejunum of the weaning piglet. These proteins were related to stress and immune response, the metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids, and tissue structure. Based on the proteome and ELISA analysis, free amino acids diet significantly down-regulated the jejunal expression of stress protein heat shock 60 kDa protein. Our results indicated that amino acids supplementation to the protein restricted diet could enhance weight gain and feed efficiency in weanling pigs through improving intestinal nutrient absorption and transportation, gut health, and mucosal immunity.  相似文献

Membrane microdomains rich in cholesterol and sphingolipids, including gangliosides (GGs), are known to be important regions for cell signaling and binding sites for various pathogens. Cholesterol depletion inhibits the cellular entry of pathogens and also reduces inflammatory signals by disrupting microdomain structure. Our previous study showed that dietary gangliosides increased total ganglioside incorporation while decreasing cholesterol in the intestinal mucosa. We hypothesized that diet-induced reduction in cholesterol content in the intestinal mucosa disrupts microdomain structure resulting in reduced pro-inflammatory signals. Male weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were fed semipurified diets for 2 weeks. Experimental diets were formulated to include either ganglioside-enriched lipid (GG diet, 0.02% gangliosides [w/w of diet] ) or polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA diet, 1% arachidonic acid and 0.5% docosahexaenoic acid, w/w of total fat), in a control diet containing 20% fat. Levels of cholesterol, GG, caveolin, platelet activating factor (PAF), and diglyceride (DG) were measured in the microdomain isolated from the intestinal brush border. The GG diet increased total gangliosides by 50% with a relative increase in GD3 and a relative decrease in GM3. Cholesterol content was also reduced by 23% in the intestinal microdomain. These changes resulted in a significant decrease in the ratio of cholesterol to ganglioside. The GG diet and the PUFA diet were both associated with reduction in caveolin, PAF, and DG content in microdomains, whereas no change occurred in the ganglioside profile of animals fed the PUFA diet. Dietary gangliosides decrease the cholesterol/ganglioside ratio, caveolin, PAF and DG content in microdomains thus exerting a potential anti-inflammatory effect during gut development.  相似文献

Ontogeny of intestinal nutrient transport   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Children born prematurely lack the ability to digest and to absorb nutrients at rates compatible with their nutritional needs. As a result, total parenteral nutrition may need to be given. While this nutritional support may be lifesaving, the baby who receives this therapy is exposed to the risks of possible sepsis, catheter dysfunction, and liver disease. The rodent model of postnatal development provides a useful framework to investigate some of the cellular features of human intestinal development. The up-regulation of intestinal gene expression and precocious development of intestinal nutrient absorption can be achieved by providing growth factor(s) or by modifying the composition of the maternal diet during pregnancy and nursing or the weaning diet of the infant. Accelerating the digestive and absorptive functions of the intestine would thereby allow for the maintenance of infant nutrition through oral food intake, and might possibly eliminate the need for, and risks of, total parenteral nutrition. Accordingly, this review was undertaken to focus on the adaptive processes available to the intestine, to identify what might be the signals for and mechanisms of the modified nutrient absorption, and to speculate on approaches that need to be studied as means to possibly accelerate the adaptive processes in ways which would be beneficial to the newborn young.  相似文献

The current study utilized Ussing chambers to examine the impact of supplementing maternal gestation and/or lactation diets with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) provided via a protected fish oil (PFO) product on intestinal fatty acid profiles and ex vivo glucose uptake in the jejunum of weanling piglets. Jejunum tissues were enriched with n-3 PUFA as a result of feeding the sows the PFO during gestation and/or lactation (P<.05). Glucose uptake improved by twofold (P<.042) in intestinal preparations obtained from the offspring of sows fed PFO during gestation or throughout gestation/lactation versus lactation alone. This was also reflected in the jejunum protein expressions of glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2) and sodium-dependent glucose transporter 1 (SGLT1). Furthermore, adding docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or an AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) agonist to the chamber buffer improved glucose uptake (P<.05) in intestinal preparations obtained from the offspring fed the control diet, devoid of the PFO product and containing minimal concentrations of n-3 PUFA. Collectively, these data indicate two important points. First, long-term exposure to n-3 PUFA via the maternal gestation diet effectively enhances glucose uptake in the weanling piglet, and the underlying mechanism may be associated with changes in the intestinal fatty acid profile. Secondly, there is an apparent direct and acute effect of DHA that is achieved within a time frame that precludes substantial changes in the intestinal fatty acid profile. Additionally, both mechanisms may involve activation of AMPK. Thus, n-3 PUFA delivered in utero and postnatally via the maternal diet may help the offspring adapt quickly to rapidly changing diets early in life and allow optimal nutrient uptake.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate if feeding genetically modified (GM) MON810 maize expressing the Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal protein (Bt maize) had any effects on the porcine intestinal microbiota. Eighteen pigs were weaned at ~28 days and, following a 6-day acclimatization period, were assigned to diets containing either GM (Bt MON810) maize or non-GM isogenic parent line maize for 31 days (n = 9/treatment). Effects on the porcine intestinal microbiota were assessed through culture-dependent and -independent approaches. Fecal, cecal, and ileal counts of total anaerobes, Enterobacteriaceae, and Lactobacillus were not significantly different between pigs fed the isogenic or Bt maize-based diets. Furthermore, high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed few differences in the compositions of the cecal microbiotas. The only differences were that pigs fed the Bt maize diet had higher cecal abundance of Enterococcaceae (0.06 versus 0%; P < 0.05), Erysipelotrichaceae (1.28 versus 1.17%; P < 0.05), and Bifidobacterium (0.04 versus 0%; P < 0.05) and lower abundance of Blautia (0.23 versus 0.40%; P < 0.05) than pigs fed the isogenic maize diet. A lower enzyme-resistant starch content in the Bt maize, which is most likely a result of normal variation and not due to the genetic modification, may account for some of the differences observed within the cecal microbiotas. These results indicate that Bt maize is well tolerated by the porcine intestinal microbiota and provide additional data for safety assessment of Bt maize. Furthermore, these data can potentially be extrapolated to humans, considering the suitability of pigs as a human model.  相似文献

Two pigs were weaned at 28 d of age, and one pig each was placed on a corn-soy (CS) or a corn-soy diet containing 40% lactose (CSL). After 28 d a fecal sample was taken from each pig. The fecal bacterial community was fractionated and used as a source of inoculum to determine if high levels of lactose added to CS diets would modify the structure of the hind-gut microbial community and the in vitro breakdown of stachyose (soy molasses served at the source of stachyose) and raffinose. Bacterial growth rate tended to the higher with the CSL diet. Higher growth rates for bacteria from the CSL-fed pig were supported by the higher acetate: propionate production when compared to the CS diet. All the stachyose and raffinose disappeared during the 48 h fermentation. To our knowledge, this is the first report that stachyose or raffinose are completely fermented by the hind-gut bacteria of the weanling pig, and that this process can be affected by the addition of high levels of lactose to the diet.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with f -galactosidase preparation and stachyose on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and intestinal bacterial populations of piglets. In Experiment I 72 crossbred piglets were allotted to three treatments, i.e. 1) control (basal) diet, 2) f -Gal1 and 3) f -Gal5, the basal diet supplemented with 0.01% and 0.05% f -galactosidase preparation ( f -Gal), respectively. Average daily gain, average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio were not influenced by f -Gal supplementation. In Experiment II 72 crossbred weanling piglets were randomly assigned to four treatments with a complete factorial design, i.e. 1) basal diet, 2) basal diet with 0.01% f -Gal supplementation, 3) basal diet with 1% stachyose supplementation and 4) basal diet with 1% stachyose and 0.01% f -Gal supplementation. Average daily gain and feed conversion ratio were influenced by f -Gal and stachyose supplementation. The ileal digestibility of stachyose, raffinose, gross energy and crude protein was improved significantly by f -Gal supplementation. The microbial populations in the intestine were modified by both f -Gal and stachyose supplementation. The data suggested that stachyose supplementation had an adverse effect on the growth performance of piglets and f -Gal supplementation could ameliorate it, especially in younger pigs.  相似文献

The intestine has a high requirement for ATP to support its integrity, function and health, and thus, energy deficits in the intestinal mucosa may play a critical role in intestinal injury. Aspartate (Asp) is one of the major sources of ATP in mammalian enterocytes via mitochondrial oxidation. We hypothesized that dietary supplementation of Asp could attenuate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal damage via modulation of intestinal energy status. Twenty-four weanling piglets were allotted to one of four treatments: (1) nonchallenged control, (2) LPS-challenged control, (3) LPS+0.5% Asp treatment, and (4) LPS+1.0% Asp treatment. On day 19, pigs were injected with saline or LPS. At 24 h postinjection, pigs were killed and intestinal samples were obtained. Asp attenuated LPS-induced intestinal damage indicated by greater villus height and villus height/crypt depth ratio as well as higher RNA/DNA and protein/DNA ratios. Asp improved intestinal function indicated by increased intestinal mucosal disaccharidase activities. Asp also improved intestinal energy status indicated by increased ATP, ADP and total adenine nucleotide contents, adenylate energy charge and decreased AMP/ATP ratio. In addition, Asp increased the activities of tricarboxylic acid cycle key enzymes including citrate synthase, isocitrate dehydrogenase and alpha-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex. Moreover, Asp down-regulated mRNA expression of intestinal AMP-activated protein kinase α1 (AMPKα1), AMPKα2, silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1) and peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor gamma coactivator-1α (PGC1α) and decreased intestinal AMPKα phosphorylation. These results indicate that Asp may alleviate LPS-induced intestinal damage and improve intestinal energy status.  相似文献

Commercially produced haem fraction of abattoir blood with a dry matter content of 35% was treated with formic acid of 80–85% purity at the rate of 3:100 (v/v) which transformed the “haem” from a liquid to a solid state and reduced pH from 7.2 to 3.6. The product was included at approximately 5% of the dietary dry matter for pigs over the live weight range 33–80 kg. In one experiment the diet containing the haem was compared with diets containing either 7 or 10% herring meal on an air dry basis. The pigs on the 10% herring meal diet grew slightly, but non-significantly, faster and more efficiently than pigs on the other two diets. The carcases of the pigs on the haem diet contained less lean and more fat than those on the herring meal diets, apparently because of dietary deficiencies of isoleucine and methionine + cystine. In the second experiment, diets with and without the haem fraction were formulated by linear programme taking ingredient costs into account. The performance and carcase composition of pigs on the haem diet were equal to or better than those on the control diet. The total lysine content of the haem fraction of abattoir blood treated with formic acid was 115 g/kg dry matter with an availability (1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene-reactive lysine) of 86%. In relation to the requirements of the finishing pig the limiting amino acids appear to be isoleucine and methionine + cystine.  相似文献

Dietary supplementation with a high level of zinc oxide (ZnO) has been shown to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in weanling pigs, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. Intestinal–mucosal mast cells, whose maturation and proliferation is under the control of the stem cell factor (SCF), play an important role in the etiology of diarrhea by releasing histamine. The present study was conducted to test the novel hypothesis that supplementing ZnO to the diet for weanling piglets may inhibit SCF expression in the small intestine, thereby reducing the number of mast cells, histamine release, and diarrhea. In Experiment 1, 32 piglets (28 days of age) were weaned and fed diets containing 100 or 3000 mg zinc/kg (as ZnO) for 10 days (16 piglets per group). In Experiment 2, two groups of 28-day-old piglets (8 piglets per group) were fed the 100- or 3000-mg zinc/kg diet as in Experiment 1, except that they were pair-fed the same amounts of feed. Supplementation with a high level of ZnO reduced the incidence of diarrhea in weanling piglets. Dietary Zn supplementation reduced expression of the SCF gene at both mRNA and protein levels, the number of mast cells in the mucosa and submucosa of the small intestine and histamine release from mucosal mast cells. Collectively, our results indicate that dietary supplementation with ZnO inhibits SCF expression in the small intestine, leading to reductions in the number of mast cells and histamine release. These findings may have important implications for the prevention of weaning-associated diarrhea in piglets.  相似文献

We assessed the effect of short-term feeding of genetically modified (GM: Bt MON810) maize on immune responses and growth in weanling pigs and determined the fate of the transgenic DNA and protein in-vivo. Pigs were fed a diet containing 38.9% GM or non-GM isogenic parent line maize for 31 days. We observed that IL-12 and IFNγ production from mitogenic stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells decreased (P<0.10) following 31 days of GM maize exposure. While Cry1Ab-specific IgG and IgA were not detected in the plasma of GM maize-fed pigs, the detection of the cry1Ab gene and protein was limited to the gastrointestinal digesta and was not found in the kidneys, liver, spleen, muscle, heart or blood. Feeding GM maize to weanling pigs had no effect on growth performance or body weight. IL-6 and IL-4 production from isolated splenocytes were increased (P<0.05) in response to feeding GM maize while the proportion of CD4(+) T cells in the spleen decreased. In the ileum, the proportion of B cells and macrophages decreased while the proportion of CD4(+) T cells increased in GM maize-fed pigs. IL-8 and IL-4 production from isolated intraepithelial and lamina propria lymphocytes were also increased (P<0.05) in response to feeding GM maize. In conclusion, there was no evidence of cry1Ab gene or protein translocation to the organs and blood of weaning pigs. The growth of pigs was not affected by feeding GM maize. Alterations in immune responses were detected; however, their biologic relevance is questionable.  相似文献

Dietary manipulations involving high carbohydrate feeding increase VI cardiac myosin isoform expression in hormonally deficient rats. The purpose of this study was to determine if extremes in dietary carbohydrate availability could alter cardiac myosin isoform patterns in normal weanling and adult rats. Three and six weeks of dietary manipulations (either high or low carbohydrate diets) failed to change calcium-activated myofibril ATPase activity, calcium regulated myofibril ATPase activity, or the myosin isoform distribution in the adult. In contrast, a four week, high carbohydrate diet reduced calcium activated myosin ATPase activity by 33%, calcium regulated myofibril ATPase activity by 10%, and Vl isoform expression by 66% in weanling rats. Although the low carbohydrate diet caused no change in the myosin ATPase properties, it decreased VI isoform expression by 17%. These results show that carbohydrate availability can alter cardiac myosin isoform expression in normal rats, but only at weanling age. The reason for this age-related contrast in response to dietary manipulations is unknown at this stage. The dietary manipulations may have acted directly on the heart by creating a state of malnutrition, or indirectly, by altering some developmental process which links maturation of the sympathetic nervous system with myosin isoform expression.  相似文献

The aim of the experiment on 180 weaned piglets (8.9 kg body weight) was to investigate the influence of high fibre diets formulated with different fibrous ingredients on performance, nutrient digestibility, diarrhoea incidence and numbers of faecal microbiota. The dietary treatments included a Control diet and five high fibre diets formulated with different fibre sources including wheat bran, soybean hulls, naked oat hulls, palm kernel expeller and bamboo fibre. The high fibre diets averaged 14.6% neutral detergent fibre with different non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) components and were fed ad libitum for 28 d. Faecal samples were collected during the last 3 d of the experiment and the apparent total tract digestibility of nutrients and fibre components were determined. Pigs fed the Control and wheat bran diets had a higher (≤ 0.05) average daily gain (ADG) than pigs fed the palm kernel expeller and bamboo meal diets. The reduced ADG for pigs appeared to be related to reductions in the digestibility of gross energy and dry matter, respectively. The feed-to-gain ratio was significantly higher (≤ 0.05) for pigs fed the fibre diets. The digestibility of NSP components was different among the treatments. The diarrhoea incidence was not affected by treatments. The abundance of faecal bifidobacteria was significantly higher (≤ 0.05) for pigs fed the wheat bran diet than for pigs fed the bamboo meal diet. It was concluded that the diets formulated with different fibre sources when fed to weaned piglets have different effects on pig performance, nutrient digestibility and numbers of faecal microbiota. The wheat bran diet rich in arabinoxylans enabled a better performance than the other tested diets with fibre addition.  相似文献
