Nondegenerate pump probe differential transmission experiments on gold nanorods with varying longitudinal surface plasmon resonance have revealed a new phenomenon where the polarity of the transient transmission signal can be reversibly switched between photo bleaching and photo-induced absorption by controlling probe fluence. Under the usual case where probe fluences are nominal, photo bleaching effect is observed for the nanorods with longitudinal surface plasmon resonance energy smaller than the probe photon energy. The laser-induced melting of the nanorods or change in their shape is ruled out for the observed optical switching effect. A quantitative understanding of the results is attempted by invoking a cascaded two-photon absorption dominant beyond a threshold probe fluence of ~75 μJ/cm2. 相似文献

In the present study, the effect of nanosized graphene oxide layer on thermal stability and biocompatibility of gold nanorods has been examined. The graphene oxide-wrapped gold nanorods were prepared by electrostatic interaction between negatively charged graphene oxide and positively charged nanorods. The resulting nanohybrids were then heated at different time intervals to 95 °C in a water bath to assess the effect of heat on the rods morphology. The structural changes in gold nanorods were monitored via UV-Vis spectroscopy measurements and transmission electron microscopy images. In similar experiments, the graphene oxide used to wrap gold nanorods was reduced by ascorbic acid in a 95 °C water bath. Our results indicate that while bare gold nanorods are highly vulnerable to elevated temperatures, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide-coated gold nanorods remain thermally stable with no structural changes. We also confirmed that the enhanced thermal stability is highly dependent on the concentration of deposited graphene oxide available on the surface of the gold nanorods. In addition, we performed an MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide) assay to make a comparison between the cytotoxicity of the nanohybrids and their primary building blocks on human dermal fibroblast cells as a normal cell line. Ultrafast transient absorption studies are reported for high-aspect-ratio gold nanorods that were fabricated by electrochemical
deposition in polycarbonate templates. The nanorods are 60 nm in diameter with distribution of lengths of up to 6 μm. The
average aspect ratio was ∼50, resulting in a longitudinal surface plasmon resonance (SPRL) band in the mid-IR, as well as a transverse (SPRT) band in the visible. The rods were excited at 400 nm and probed at a range of wavelengths from the visible to the mid-IR
to interrogate both SPR bands. The dynamics observed, including the electron–phonon coupling time and coherent acoustic breathing
mode oscillations, closely resemble those previously reported for gold spherical nanoparticles and smaller-aspect-ratio nanorods.
The electron–phonon coupling time was similarly determined to be 3.3 ± 0.2 ps for both of the SPR bands. Also, oscillations
with a 32-ps period were observed for probing near the SPRT band in the visible region due to impulsive coherent excitation of the acoustic breathing mode, which are consistent with
the 60-nm diameter of the nanorods determined by scanning electron microscopy. The results demonstrate that the dynamics for
long gold nanorods are similar to those for smaller nanoparticles.

The topics focusing on functionalization of gold nanorods have been reviewed with a view toward their advanced uses. In most
cases, as-prepared gold nanorods are hydrophilic and protected by surfactants, since anisotropic growth of gold nanorods by
chemical, electrochemical, and photo-induced methods is carried out in aqueous media in the presence of surfactants and additives.
Since solvophilicity of gold nanorods predominantly affects on their optical properties, the control of dispersity of gold
nanorods in matrices has been performed, without loss of their optical characters, by surface modification and hybridization
with small molecules or polymers. As a result of the functionalization procedure, the capability of self-assembly of gold
nanorods has been improved. Furthermore, the examples of application using gold nanorods demonstrate that gold nanorod is

The nonlinear optical properties of single gold nanorods (GNRs) with a large diameter of ~200 nm and a long length of ~800 nm were investigated by using a focused femtosecond (fs) laser light with tunable wavelength. While the linear and nonlinear optical properties of small-sized GNRs have been extensively studied, the nonlinear optical properties of large-sized GNRs and the effects of high-order surface plasmon resonances remain unexplored. Second harmonic generation (SHG) or/and two-photon-induced luminescence (TPL) were observed in the nonlinear response spectra, and their dependences on excitation wavelength and polarization were examined. The scattering and absorption spectra of the small- and large-sized GNRs were compared by using the discrete dipole approximation method. It was found that the extinction of large-sized GNRs is dominated by scattering rather than absorption, which is dominant in small-sized GNRs. In addition, it was revealed that the excitation wavelength-dependent SHG of a GNR is governed by the linear scattering of the GNR and the maximum SHG is achieved at the valley of the scattering spectrum. In comparison, the excitation wavelength dependence of TPL is determined by the absorption spectrum of the GNR. The polarization-dependent SHG of a GNR exhibits a strong dependence on the dimension of the GNR, and it may appear as bipolar distributions parallel or perpendicular to the long axis of the GNR or multipole distributions. 相似文献

Due to their unique plasmonic and optical properties, gold nanorods (GNR) have shown tremendous potential for nano-based applications extending into a variety of fields including bioimaging, sensor development, electronics, and cancer therapy. These distinctive, shape-specific properties are strongly dependent upon the GNR aspect ratio, thus producing the ability to be targeted for an application by fine-tuning their physical parameters. It is owing to their characteristic spectral signature, which is vastly different from that of a cellular setting, that GNRs are emerging as an ideal candidate for nano-based imaging applications. However, one challenge that has emerged in the field of bioimaging is the need to account for the observed plasmon coupling effect that arises from GNR agglomeration in a physiological environment. In this study, GNRs with aspect ratios of 2.5 and 6.0 were actively identified in an in vitro setting through a hyperspectral imaging (HSI) analysis; which successfully recognized and separated the light scattering pattern of these particles from that of the surrounding cells. Through inclusion of agglomerated GNR spectral patterns in the HSI spectral library, this imaging technique was able to overcome the complication of plasmon coupling, though to varying degrees. These results demonstrate the tremendous potential of GNRs coupled with HSI analysis to advance the field of nano-based sensing and imaging mechanisms. 相似文献

The surface plasmon fields of gold nanorods with a diameter of 100 nm and lengths of 1–5 m are imaged by using far-field Raman scattering of methylene blue adsorbed on the rods. When optically exciting the nanorods under total internal reflection with wave vector and electric field vector orientations along the rod axis, the plasmon field intensity along this axis is observed to be periodically modulated. This modulation is attributable to a beating of the exciting light wave and the nanorod plasmon mode. The plasmon wavelength deduced from the beat frequency is 379 nm, which is considerably smaller than the exciting laser wavelength of 647 nm. In general, Raman imaging is shown to be a powerful technique to probe local plasmon fields using far-field spectroscopy. 相似文献

The plasmon resonance of metal nanoparticles shifts upon refractive index changes of the surrounding medium through the binding
of analytes. The use of this principle allows one to build ultra-small plasmon sensors that can detect analytes (e.g., biomolecules)
in volumes down to attoliters. We use simulations based on the boundary element method to determine the sensitivity of gold
nanorods of various aspect ratios for plasmonic sensors and find values between 3 and 4 to be optimal. Experiments on single
particles confirm these theoretical results. We are able to explain the optimum by showing a corresponding maximum for the

目的:制备胶体金免疫层析试纸检测猪链球菌2型.方法:用柠檬酸盐还原法制备胶体金颗粒,标记猪链球菌2型多克隆抗体,通过免疫层析作用对猪链球菌2型进行检测,并对试纸条的敏感性、特异性、稳定性进行评价.结果:每毫升胶体金最佳抗体标记量为22μg/mL,最佳包被抗体浓度为2 mg/mL,最佳BSA封闭浓度为1.5%,建立的胶体金免疫层析试纸条栓出猪链球菌2型的下限为106 CFU/mL,从检测到结果判断时间为5~15 min,与其他常见致病菌及链球菌属中15个群无交叉反应.结论:获得了检测猪链球菌2型的胶体金免疫层析试纸,该法操作简便,灵敏度高,特异性强,可用于猪链球菌的快速初筛和检测. 相似文献

The laser desorption/ionization (LDI) assisted by gold nanospheres, nanorods and nanostars has been investigated. Laser fluence
thresholds for the appearance of cationized adducts of a polydispersed polyether standard (polyethylenglycol PEG600) have
been determined at the near ultraviolet–visible–near infrared wavelengths delivered by a Nd:YAG laser (266, 355, 532, 1,064
nm). The results demonstrate the efficiency of surface plasmon excitation to assist laser desorption/ionizaton at laser wavelengths
extending to the visible and near infrared, with advantages with respect to conventional LDI techniques using ultraviolet
wavelengths. A close correlation is found between the optical absorbance of the nanoparticles and the LDI thresholds, although
for the nanospheres plasmonic excitation in the visible appears to be more efficient than non-plasmonic excitation at shorter
UV wavelengths. The recorded molecular weight distributions for the PEG600 standard show that the LDI process tends to be
less efficient for the heavier components of the polymer mixture, presumably as a consequence of their stronger bonding to
the nanoparticle substrate. The role of the coating agent of the nanoparticles in the observed LDI behavior is discussed. 相似文献

We report the use of biocompatible gold nanorods (GNRs) as multimodal (plasmonic and magnetic) probes for cancer cell labeling
in vitro. These multifunctional and multimodal bioconjugates were prepared by replacing cetyltrimethylammonium bromide with
a mixture of functionalized PEGylation molecules so that a variety of functionalities (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging agent
gadolinium (Gd) and biorecognition molecule transferrin (Tf)) can be easily integrated using simple chemistry. It was shown
that Gd incorporation did not interfere with the plasmonic properties of the GNRs and a strong T1 relaxivity was estimated
(10.0 mM−1 s−1), which is more than twice that of the clinical MRI agent Gd-DTPA. The large observed T1 relaxivity was possibly due to the
huge surface to volume ratio of GNR, which allowed huge amount of amine-terminated molecule to anchor on the surface, coupled
with Gd (III) ions for the enhanced relaxation of water protons. Pancreatic cancer cell overexpressing the transferring receptor
was served as the in vitro model, and the Tf-mediated uptake was demonstrated and confirmed by dark-field imaging and transmission
electron microscopy. More importantly, cell viability (MTS) assay did not reveal any sign of toxicity in these treated cells,
suggesting that PEGylated GNRs can serve as a biocompatible, multifunctional, and multimodal platform for variable bio-applications. 相似文献

Gold nanorods are known to exhibit two distinct surface plasmon oscillations namely, transverse and longitudinal bands corresponding
to oscillations of conduction electrons along width and length of gold nanorods. Considerable changes in these surface plasmon
resonance peak positions occurred when KOH was added to the nanorod solution. Nanorods with initial longitudinal plasmon band
at 739, 796, and 895 nm are studied with variation in KOH concentration. While the longitudinal plasmon resonance peak showed
blue shift, transverse plasmon resonance peak exhibited only intensity variations. Changes could be attributed to the shape
transition of gold nanorods on variation of pH in the solution. Shape transition of gold nanorods is confirmed by transmission

Applications based on the optical excitation of the longitudinal surface plasmon resonance of gold nanorods (AuNRs) work at highest efficiency if all component AuNRs can be maximally excited simultaneously. This can be achieved in aligned AuNR structures, such as those embedded in uniaxially stretched polymer films. Since too high heating temperatures during film stretching cause reshaping and alteration of optical properties of the rods, a maximum allowable heating temperature is determined. The alignment of the rods is quantified by an orientational order parameter of 0.92 based on a statistically significant sample of assumed t distributed means and obtained by scanning electron microscopy. We show that a stretched AuNRs-PVA composite film has optical properties that approach the dichroic properties of an idealized ensemble of fully aligned, identical, and non-interacting AuNRs embedded in a PVA film. The idealized system is provided by FDTD simulations of a single AuNR, which we carried out using the size- and shape-adapted dielectric function of gold and the software RSOFT. 相似文献

Blood clotting is a precise cascade engineered to form a clot with temporal and spatial control. Current control of blood clotting is achieved predominantly by anticoagulants and thus inherently one-sided. Here we use a pair of nanorods (NRs) to provide a two-way switch for the blood clotting cascade by utilizing their ability to selectively release species on their surface under two different laser excitations. We selectively trigger release of a thrombin binding aptamer from one nanorod, inhibiting blood clotting and resulting in increased clotting time. We then release the complementary DNA as an antidote from the other NR, reversing the effect of the aptamer and restoring blood clotting. Thus, the nanorod pair acts as an on/off switch. One challenge for nanobiotechnology is the bio-nano interface, where coronas of weakly adsorbed proteins can obscure biomolecular function. We exploit these adsorbed proteins to increase aptamer and antidote loading on the nanorods. 相似文献

A gas chromatograph fitted with electron capture and flame ionization detectors was employed for the rapid detection of bacteria by analysis for their metabolic products. The presence of Proteus vulgaris, Streptococcus faecalis, S. liquefaciens, Escherichia coli B, Bacillus cereus, and B. popilliae was detected in 2 to 4 hr in media inoculated with less than 10(4) cells per ml, whereas a 7- to 12-hr growth period was required for the detection of products formed in cultures of Serratia marcescens, Aerobacter aerogenes, E. coli K-12, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella typhimurium. Metabolites elaborated by the equivalent of less than a single cell of B. cereus, S. faecalis, P. vulgaris, or E. coli B were sensed by the electron capture detector. The flame ionization detector was generally not as sensitive. Volatile metabolites were identified, and their concentrations were determined. 相似文献
