The karyotypes and chromosome associations at meiosis in two types of natural hybrids, 7x and 8x, betweenDuchesnea chrysantha (2x) andD. indica (12x) were investigated. The 7x hybrid had a haploid chromosome set from each parent plant, whereas the 8x hybrid was considered to have a full set ofD. chrysantha and half a set ofD. indica. In the two hybrids, the chromosomes ofD. chrysantha andD. indica conjugated only slightly at meiosis. It is probable that no common genome set between the diploidD. chrysantha and the dodecaploidD. indica exists. The present evidence indicates thatD. chrysantha andD. indica should be considered to be distinct species, although they have sometimes been treated as a single species.  相似文献

Both diploid and tetraploid experimental interspecific hybrids betweenRanunculus silerifolius (2x) andR. chinensis (2x) exhibit normal bivalent pairing. However, microspores of diploid hybrids do not undergo mitosis and their pollen grains are highly sterile, whereas tetraploid hybrids form good pollen grains after microspore division. Evidence is forwarded for the assumption thatR. cantoniensis (4x) has originated by hybridization between these two diploid parental species and by polyploidization of the diploid hybrids. Parallelisms between the different karyotypes ofR. cantoniensis (4x) andR. silerifolius (2x) suggest that the former is a species of polyphyletic origin.  相似文献

Seed protein electrophoresis of four chromosomes races ofFestuca arundinacea, F. mairei and their progenitors showed variation in banding patterns. High protein similarities betweenF. arundinacea, F. mairei, F. scariosa, andF. pratensis indicate close phylogenetic relationships of these species. The ancestry ofF. arundinacea cytotypes could be narrowed to three diploid species:F. scariosa, F. pratensis, andF. rubra or to their close relatives.  相似文献

InSedum rupestre L. a polyploid series (x = 16) occurs in which aneuploid chromosome numbers and odd levels of ploidy prevail. The most common and widely distributed cytotype,S. rupestre subsp.rupestre, is 2n = 112. Plants resemblingS. rupestre subsp.rupestre can be obtained by hybridizing the tetraploid cytotypes ofS. forsterianum Sm. (2n = 48) andS. rupestre subsp.erectum 't Hart (2n = 64). Comparison of these artificial hybrids with their parents and a large number of plants ofS. rupestre subsp.rupestre (2n = 112) from nature showed thatS. rupestre subsp.rupestre and the artificial hybrids are morphologically indistinguishable, and intermediate betweenS. forsterianum andS. rupestre subsp.erectum. MorphologicallyS. rupestre subsp.rupestre is closer to subsp.erectum than toS. forsterianum. Chloroplast DNA restriction patterns ofS. rupestre subsp.rupestre, however, resembleS. forsterianum more closely. The combined results of the hybridization experiments, the analysis of the cpDNA restriction patterns, and the morphological variation indicate the allopolyploid origin ofS. rupestre subsp.rupestre. Three widespread ploidy levels have evolved in Claytonia virginica, a diploid represented by n = 8, 7, and 6 races, a triploid primarily by n = 12 and 11, and a tetraploid by n = 16, 15, 14, and other aneutetraploids. In addition, sporadic higher polyploids (5x–24x) occur throughout eastern North America. These data are considered briefly in relation to meiotic behavior, to coexistence of major cytotypes, and to speciation.  相似文献

The existence of neopolyploidy in prairie cordgrass (Spartina pectinata Link) has been documented. The neohexaploid was discovered coexisting with tetraploids in central Illinois, and has been reported to exhibit competitiveness in the natural environment. It is hypothesized that the natural tetraploid cytotype produced the hexaploid cytotype via production of unreduced gametes. Meiosis I chromosome pairing was observed in tetraploid (2n?=?4x?=?40), hexaploid (2n?=?6x?=?60), and octoploid (2n?=?8x?=?80) accessions and the percentage of meiotic abnormality was determined. Significant differences in meiotic abnormality exist between tetraploid, hexaploid, and octoploid cytotypes. An elevated incidence of abnormal, predominantly trivalent pairing in the neohexaploid suggests that it may possess homologous chromosomes in sets of three, in contrast to the tetraploid and octoploid cytotypes, which likely possess homologous chromosomes in sets of two. Abnormal chromosome pairing in the hexaploid may result in unequal allocation of chromosomes to daughter cells during later stages of meiosis. Chromosome pairing patterns in tetraploid, hexaploid, and octoploid cytotypes indicate genome compositions of AABB, AAABBB, and AABBA′A′B′B′, respectively.  相似文献

Chromosome counts were made for a total of 540 collections ofCalamagrostis hakonensis from 66 localities ranging from Kyushu to Hokkaido. Distribution and habitat preferences of the cytotypes involved are described. Sympatric occurrence of tetraploids (=semidiploids, 2n=28) and higher polyploids, as well as that of septaploids and plants at hexaploid and/or octoploid levels, was confirmed in several localities, and mixtures of hexaploids and octoploids within a population were frequently observed. Plants at hexaploid and octoploid levels were the most abundant and widespread. An examination of pollen of the voucher specimens showed that tetraploids (amphimictic) had good pollen, while higher polyploids (apomictic) were generally devoid of pollen and very rarely produced moderately good pollen, the grains of higher polyploids being larger than those of tetraploids. Distributions of tetraploids and higher polyploids were more precisely delineated through an examination of pollen of many herbarium specimens. In relation to the processes by which the complicated internal structure ofC. hakonensis has been established, the following subjects are discussed: infraspecific hybridization between ecotypically differentiated populations, enrichment of variability through occasional sexual reproduction expected in plants with more than 2n=42, persistence of the variants by apomictic reproduction, and probable roles of some extinct taxa.  相似文献

Morphological, cytological, and paper Chromatographic studies of populations from northern Michigan and examination of herbarium specimens from throughout North America were used to clarify the relationships ofGoodyera oblongifolia, G. repens var.ophioides, andG. tesselata. A canonical analysis of morphological data from mixed populations of these three species depictsG. tesselata as intermediate betweenG. oblongifolia andG. repens var.ophioides. The latter two species are diploid (2n = 30) andG. tesselata is tetraploid (2n = 60). Triploids (2n = ca. 45) were found in two mixed-species populations in northern Michigan.Goodyera tesselata produces three phenolic compounds present inG. oblongifolia and five different compounds present inG. repens var.ophioides. The range ofG. tesselata is confined to glaciated territory (except for two stations) in northeastern North America where the postglacially produced ranges ofG. oblongifolia andG. repens var.ophioides overlap. However,G. tesselata is quite abundant in areas outside the region of sympatry of the other two species. Based on this evidence, it is postulated thatG. tesselata is an allotetraploid species which resulted from hybridization betweenG. oblongifolia andG. repens var.ophioides during early post-Pleistocene. The slightly earlier blooming season ofG. tesselata may have been selected for to provide a measure of reproductive isolation between the tetraploid and its parents and to adapt the new species to the rather short growing season of northeastern North America.  相似文献

Studies on chromosome numbers and karyotypes in Orchid taxa from Apulia (Italy) revealed triploid complements inOphrys tenthredinifera andOrchis italica. InO. tenthredinifera there is no significant difference between the diploid and the triploid karyotypes. The tetraploid cytotype ofAnacamptis pyramidalis forms 36 bivalents during metaphase I in embryo sac mother cells. Aneuploidy was noticed inOphrys bertolonii ×O. tarentina with chromosome numbers n = 19 and 2n = 38. There were diploid (2n = 2x = 36), tetraploid (2n = 4x = 72), hexaploid (2n = 6x = 108) and octoploid (2n = 8x = 144) cells in the ovary wall of the diploid hybridOphrys apulica ×O. bombyliflora. 为探讨国产毛茛科(Ranunculaceae)驴蹄草属(Caltha L.)植物的细胞学特征,对驴蹄草(C.palustris L.)3个居群和花葶驴蹄草(C.scaposa Hook.f.&Thoms.)5个居群进行了细胞学研究。驴蹄草贵州纳雍居群的染色体数目为2n=32(四倍体),两个云南中甸居群的染色体数目均为2n=64(八倍体)。花葶驴蹄草四川红原、康定、石渠居群的染色体数目均为2n=32(四倍体),该数目为首次报道;西藏林芝和云南德钦居群的染色体数目均为2n=64(八倍体)。驴蹄草的染色体比花葶驴蹄草大。这两种植物的32或64条染色体分别以4条或8条为单位大致能够排列为8组同源染色体,但同一组内的染色体经常具有明显的异形性(heteromorphy),不同居群的核型组成多少具有差异。同时,还分析了驴蹄草和花葶驴蹄草的不同倍性细胞型在我国的地理分布式样。  相似文献

Phenotypic differentiation of two tetraploid (2n = 4x = 36, 36+1B, 36+2B) populations of Santolina rosmarinifolia geographically isolated from diploid populations was investigated. The karyotype was relatively homogeneous, meiosis was regular and pollen was fertile in both cytotypes. An autopolyploid or allopolyploid origin for tetraploid cytotypes is discussed. Overall, 80.82% of all variance in achene weight, time t0, t50 and t90 of germination and accumulated germination rate was due to achene age at each ploidy level. Partition of the total phenotypic variance showed that there was extensive variation between ploidy levels. The mean of morphological characters was generally higher in polyploids. For diploid cytotypes, flower number, achene production and fruiting percentage were significantly higher than for tetraploid cytotypes. Cluster analysis indicated that the patterns of seedling morphology and development were similar in three diploid individuals and several tetraploids; the same analysis showed high similarity between diploid individuals of the natural populations, whereas tetraploid individuals showed high dissimilarity among themselves and with diploid individuals. Multiple correspondence analysis and logistic regression analysis indicated that qualitative characters contribute strongly to cytotype differentiation. The seed proteins ofTrigonella foenum-graecum, T. berythaea, T. macrorrhyncha andT. gladiata were fractionated on polyacrylamide gels in anodic and cathodic systems. Similarity indices between the profiles of any two species indicated close affinity betweenT. gladiata andT. macrorrhyncha and betweenT. foenum-graecum andT. berythaea. It has been pointed out that according to morphological resemblance and similarity index of the seed protein profileT. berythaea is closer to the cultigen than any other species of sectionFoenum-graecum, but these two species are strongly isolated from one another by the albino seedlings of their F1 hybrids.  相似文献

Cytogenetical studies were carried out on the successive generations of offsprings from the induced tetraploid hybrid (2n = 32) betweenRanunculus silerifolius (2n = 16) andR. chinensis (2n = 16). Aneuploids, 2n = 30 to 35, frequently occurred. In latter subsequent generations the deviation of aneuploids increased, but the proportion of euploids decreased, accompanied by the reduction of fertility of pollen grains and seed sets. F2 and F4 PMCs constantly exhibited meiotic abnormality, i.e. formation of quadrivalents and univalents. An investigation of pseudocopulation behaviour in species ofOphrys from southern Spain confirms the close relationship betweenCampsoscolia ciliata (Scoliidae) andOphrys speculum, and betweenEucera nigrilabris (Apoidea) andOphrys tenthredinifera. It could be demonstrated thatEucera barbiventris is the pollinator ofOphrys scolopax subsp.scolopax, whereas other species ofEucera andTetralonia which are active at the same time show no interest at all for the flowers of this species. Special attention was paid to the forms of the taxonomically confusedOphrys fusca group:O. fusca s. str.,O. iricolor, O. omegaifera andO. atlantica. WhileO. fusca s. str. is widespread, small-flowered and has late anthesis,O. iricolor has very large flowers and early anthesis. Each of the four members ofO. fusca agg. in S. Spain is pollinated by a different bee, and selective experiments show that each of these four species of bees is specifically attracted only to one of theOphrys species:Andrena flavipes is the pollinator ofO. fusca s. str.,Colletes cunicularius infuscatus ofO. iricolor, Anthophora atroalba ofO. omegaifera, andChalicodoma parietina ofO. atlantica. These four pollinators belong to 4 different bee families (Andrenidae, Colletidae, Anthophoridae, Megachilidae). As this type of pollination represents a very effective pregamic isolation mechanism, these four taxa ofOphrys fusca agg., at least in southern Spain, behave and should be regarded as genuine species.

Parasenecio auriculata is a woodland perennial herb widely distributed in Northeastern Asia, constituted by a poorly understood polyploidy with a diploid (2n=2x=60) and a tetraploid (2n=4x=120). In this study, for a better understanding of the polyploidal evolution, cytogeography and morphological variation were analyzed in Japanese P. auriculata, including two varieties; var. bulbifera endemic to central Hokkaido and var. kamtschatica widely distributed in northern Honshu and Hokkaido. The occurrence of two polyploidal levels was reconfirmed. While var. bulbifera is predominantly tetraploid, var. kamtschatica is comprised of diploid and tetraploid. Morphological variation among 22 quantitative characteristics is continuous and not distinctive among cytotypes or varieties, but plant size tended to be larger in the order, diploid of var. kamtschatica, var. bulbifera, and tetraploid of var. kamtschatica. The cytotype distribution showed a conspicuous geographical pattern. Besides var. bulbifera endemic to the central Hokkaido, the diploid of var. kamtschatica is mainly found in Southern Hokkaido, and the tetraploid has a disjunct distribution in eastern and northern Hokkaido and northern Honshu. Such a geographical pattern is possibly attributable to the differentiation of climatic preference among cytotypes and varieties, and may have been established in association with the climatic cline along the Japanese archipelago.  相似文献

Cross-pollinations were carried out among 11 briefly described species ofGeranium. Eight species pairs produced hybrids, of which five had not been reported before. The close relationship ofG. purpureum, G. robertianum andG. rubescens (sect.Ruberta) was confirmed; they form a polyploid series (diploid, tetraploid and octoploid on base x = 16). ForG. canariense (sect.Anemonifolia), another octoploid on base x = 16, the results suggest greater affinity with the former section.G. maderense andG. palmatum of sect.Anemonifolia (2n = 68) are confirmed as closely related to each other.G. maderense produced hybrids withG. robertianum (2n = 64; sect.Ruberta) and withG. cataractarum (2n = 36; sect.Unguiculata). Meiosis in the latter hybrid suggests allopolyploidy between parents with 2n = 32 and 2n = 36. Whereas all these species clearly form a very close alliance,G. lucidum (sect.Lucida) andG. macrorrhizum andG. dalmaticum (both sect.Unguiculata), appear genetically more isolated from them. One plant ofG. macrorrhizum ×G. dalmaticum was raised. — In crosses where hybrids or non-germinating seeds resulted, the reciprocal cross in the majority of cases produced a greatly inferior result or none at all. This asymmetry of response could in some cases be explained by inability of pollentubes from short-styled parents to reach the ovary of a long-styled species and in others by a modification of Hogenboom's theory of incongruity, but neither explanation works for every case. In all our asymmetric results where the ploidy level differed the diploid was the successful female, not the tetraploid, as is usually the case. — Some variation in results from year to year could be attributed to weather conditions.Dedicated to Hofrat Univ.-Prof. DrK. Considerable structural and numerical chromosomal variation has been found in natural populations ofAlopecurus. Interchange heterozygotes, identified by multivalent formation during meiosis, have been recovered in four out of six species studied and are reported for the first time in the diploidsA. bulbosus, andA. myosuroides, and the tetraploidA. pratensis. B chromosomes have been found in two species,A. pratensis andA. myosuroides and also in inter-specific hybrids betweenA. pratensis andA. arundinaceus. Seventeen species ofHibiscus sectionFurcaria are native to the New World, of which 12 (one diploid, nine tetraploids, one octoploid and one decaploid) have been studied cytotaxonomically. New chromosome counts (2n=4x=72) are reported forH. cucurbitaceus, H. flagelliformis, H. kitaibelifolius, andH. laxiflorus. Seventeen types of tetraploid interspecific hybrids (seven new to this study) all showed complete meiotic chromosome homology (genome formulaGGPP) and normal floral development. That all hybrids were nevertheless almost completely sterile suggests a cytoplasmic component to the genetic differentiation of the species. The diversification of the tetraploid species in habits, habitats and geographical ranges is considerable, despite their similar genome constitutions. A crossing programme including 30 species and 40 cytotypes within the genusHordeum was undertaken. Viable hybrids were obtained in 302 combinations, 15 of which were intraspecific. Differences in seed set and in germination were observed in crosses between different groups of species. Obtaining crosses between different taxonomic groups was generally more difficult when diploid material was used. Some species, e.g.,H. lechleri, H. jubatum, andH. brachyantherum showed a higher crossability than others. The chromosome numbers of the hybrids were usually those expected from the parental numbers but aneuploid series around the expected numbers were rather frequent. Three cases of unreduced gametes were found. Selective chromosome elimination was restricted to combinations including eitherH. vulgare orH. bulbosum.—Despite a very diverse morphology, all South American diploid species together with the two North American diploidsH. intercedens andH. pusillum appear to be closely related. The hexaploid American speciesH. procerum, H. lechleri, andH. arizonicum are also related. The two North American tetraploid speciesH. jubatum andH. brachyantherum sometimes form semifertile hybrids. The Asiatic speciesH. roshevitzii appears to be related to both North and South American taxa.  相似文献
