The post-harvest residues of some local crops, e.g. wheat (Triticum aestivum), millets (Penniseum typhoides and Sorghum vulgare), and a pulse (Vigna radiata) were subjected to recycle through vermicomposting by using the epigeic earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae Kinberg, under laboratory conditions. The crop residues were amended with animal dung; and three types of vermibeds were prepared: (i) millet straw (S. vulgare + Pennisenum typhoides in equal quantity) + sheep manure (1:2 ratio) (MS), (ii) pulse bran (Vigna radiata) + wheat straw (Triticum aestivum) + cow dung (1:1:2 ratio) (PWC), and (iii) mixed crop residues (mixing of all types crop residues, used in this study) + cow dung in 1:1 ratio (MCR + CD). The fourth treatment was cattle shed manure (CSM). At the end, ready vermicompost showed lower organic C content and higher concentrations of other important plant nutrients. Organic C content decreased in the order: MCR + CD (27.6%) > PWC (22.8%) > CMS (22.6%) > MS (19.4%). The ready vermicompost obtained from MCR + CD vermibed showed the maximum increase (% of initial level) in content of total N (143.4%), available P (111.1%) and exchangeable K (100.0%). The end product showed reduction in C:N ration between the ranges of 60.7% (CSM) and 70.3% (MCR + CD), at the end. The composting earthworm E. eugeniae exhibited the highest values of biological parameters: maximum mean individual biomass (1261.25 ± 7.0 mg), biomass gain (955.84 ± 11.03 mg), growth rate (10.62 ± 0.10 mg wt. worm−1 day−1), cocoon numbers (87.67 ± 6.51), and reproduction rate (0.66 ± 0.01 cocoons worm−1 day−1) in CSM container, while MS vermibeds showed the lowest values of these parameters. During experimentation, the maximum mortality for E. eugeniae was recorded in MS (16.67 ± 7.63%) followed by CSM > PWC > MCR + CD. Results indicated that the C:N ratio of the substrate drastically influenced the growth parameters of E. eugeniae, and it showed the close relations with maximum individual biomass gain (R2 = 0.96), individual growth rate (R2 = 0.82), and reproduction rate (cocoon worm−1 day−1) (R2 = 0.72), in different treatments. This study clearly indicates that vermicomposting of crop residues and cattle shed wastes can not only produce a value-added product (vermicomposting) but at the same time acts as best culture medium for large-scale production of earthworms.  相似文献

Potential of an oriental composting earthworm: Perionyx excavatus (Perrier) to decompose waste resources generated from agricultural practices (crop residues, farm yard manure, and cattle dung) was studied for 150days under laboratory conditions. At the end of experiment, all vermibeds showed significant decrease in their organic C content ( approximately 21-29%), while increase in total N ( approximately 91-144%), available P ( approximately 63-105%), and exchangeable K ( approximately 45-90%). P. excavatus showed maximum individual live weight (662.05mg) after 120days in MIXED (mixed crop residues+cow dung in 1:1) substrate. The maximum growth rate (mg worm(-1)day(-1)) was between 3.79+/-0.08 and 2.35+/-0.16 on different substrates. The mean number of cocoon production was between 394.3+/-23.2 and 690.7+/-23.2 for different experimental beddings. MIXED bedding showed maximum reproduction rate (0.23+/-0.004 cocoons worm(-1) day(-1)), whereas farmyard manure bedding (FYM) showed least value (0.15+/-0.002 cocoons worm(-1)day(-1)). During vermicomposting, the total mortality in worms' population was recorded between 0% (in MIXED) and 21.7% (in Jowar straw (Sorghum vulgare)+millet straw (Pennisenum typhoides)+sheep manure in 1:1:2 ratio (JMS)). The waste decomposition and earthworm production was associated strongly with the quality of the substrate, especially with their chemical as well as biological composition.  相似文献

In this study, enumeration and identification of total aerobic heterotrophic bacteria and petroleum-utilizing bacteria as well as the degradative potential of petroleum-utilizing bacterial isolates were carried out. The average counts of total aerobic heterotrophic bacteria in cow dung and poultry manure were 74.25 × 105 c.f.u. g−1 and 138.75 × 105 c.f.u. g−1 respectively. Acinetobacter sp, Bacillus sp, Pseudomonas sp, and Serratia spp. occurred as aerobic heterotrophs in both cow dung and poultry manure. However, Alcaligenes spp. occurred only in cow dung while, Flavobacterium sp, Klebsiella sp, Micrococcus sp, and Nocardia spp. occurred only in poultry manure as aerobic heterotrophs. The average counts of petroleum-utilizing bacteria in cow dung and poultry manure were 9.25 × 105 c.f.u. g−1 and 17.25 × 105 c.f.u. g−1 respectively. Pseudomonas spp. occurred as petroleum utilizer in both cow dung and poultry manure. However, Bacillus spp. occurred only in cow dung while Acinetobacter spp. and Micrococcus spp. occurred only in poultry manure as petroleum utilizers. Relative abundance of petroleum utilizers in total aerobic heterotrophs ranged from 6.38% to 20.00% for cow dung and from 9.38% to 17.29% for poultry manure. Introduction of pure cultures of petroleum-utilizing bacteria from cow dung and poultry manure into sterile oil-polluted soil revealed oil degradation in one week period.  相似文献

This study reports the results of vermicomposting with Eisenia fetida of Parthenium hysterophorus mixed with cow dung in different ratios (25%, 50% and 75%) in a 18 weeks experiment. In all the treatments, a decrease in pH, OCtotal and C:N ratio, but increase in EC, Ntotal, Paval, Catotal, Ktotal and heavy metals was recorded. The cocoons production and growth rate (biomass gain worm−1 day−1) were maximum in 100% cow dung. The results indicated that parthenium can be a raw material for vermicomposting if mix with cow dung in appropriate quantity.  相似文献

With a view to converting human urine into bio-wealth in the form of zooplankton, the nutrient potentials of liquid wastes (0.11 mL L−1)—(i) human urine (♂), (ii) cow urine, (iii) human–cow mixed urine or some solid wastes (0.11 g L−1): (iv) vermi-compost, (v) cow dung, (vi) poultry droppings and (vii) mixed wastes (vermi-cow-poultry)—were evaluated for the mass culture of zooplankton Moina micrura in 24 outdoor tanks (4500 L) in triplicate treatments using life table as indicator during the period of October–December, 2005. Neonates of Moina micrura held in the treatment with human urine started reproduction at least 4 days earlier than other solid wastes tested. Total number of Moina micrura enumerated in the culture tank, related with offspring production per life span, was maximum in case of human urine treatment, followed by human–cow mixed urine, cow urine, vermin-compost, poultry droppings, mixed wastes (vermin–cow–poultry), cow dung and control treatments. The relationship between the total offspring production per female per life span and the nitrogen content of water in different treatments implied that human urine was an excellent liquid waste that can be used for the mass production of zooplankton Moina micrura required for larval and post larval rearing of commercial fishes.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the potential of Allolobophora parva Eisen as a candidate for vermicomposting practices. Five organic waste mixtures: cow dung (CD), biogas plant slurry (BGS), cow dung + vegetable waste (CD + VW), BGS + VW and VW + Soil were vermicomposted using A. parva. Vermicomposting showed a decrease in pH, organic C and C:N ratio, but increase total N, available P and exchangeable K at the end. C:N ratio of end material (vermicompost) was within the agronomic acceptable limit (<20). The high level of NPK in worm-processed material indicates the candidature of this species for waste management operations. The earthworm also showed an excellent growth in different wastes. Results thus indicate that A. parva appeared a potential tool for conversion of organic wastes into value added products for sustainable land restoration practices.  相似文献

Variations in crop grain and soil N isotope composition (δ15N) in relation to liquid hog manure (δ15N of total N was +5.1‰), solid cattle manure (+7.9‰) and chemical fertilizer (+0.7‰ for urea and −1.9‰ for ammonium phosphate) applications, and control (no fertilizer application) were examined through a 4-year crop rotation under field conditions. Canola (Brassica napus), hull-less barley (Hordeum vulgare), wheat (Triticum aestivum), and canola were grown sequentially from 2000 (year 1) to 2003 (year 4). From year 2, hog manure or chemical fertilizers, but not cattle manure, treatments increased grain N concentrations over the control. Grain δ15N (+0.3 to +2.5‰) of crops applied with chemical fertilizers was lower than those in the other treatments, reflecting the effects of the N source with a lower δ15N, while the manure treatments tended to increase grain δ15N. The higher grain δ15N of crops applied with hog manure (+5.6 to +8.4‰) than those applied with cattle manure (+2.2 to +4.1‰) reflected the higher N availability of liquid hog manure (up to 70% as NH 4 + ) than solid cattle manure (99% organic N) and higher potentials for ammonia volatilization loss in hog manure rather than differences in manure δ15N signatures. Soil total- and extractable-N concentrations and δ15N tended to vary with the application of N sources with different N isotope composition and availability. Our study expanded the application of the δ15N technique for detecting N source (organic vs chemical) effects on N isotopic composition to field conditions and across a 4-year rotation, and revealed that N availability played a greater role than the δ15N signature of N sources in determining crop δ15N under the studied conditions. Recycling of guar gum industrial waste through vermitechnology was studied under laboratory conditions by using composting earthworm Perionyx excavatus (Perrier). Three different combination of guar gum industrial waste namely guar gum industrial waste:cow dung:saw dust in 40:30:30 ratio (T1), guar gum industrial waste:cow dung:saw dust in 60:20:20 ratio (T2), and guar gum industrial waste:cow dung:saw dust in 75:15:10 ratio (T3) were used for vermicomposting experiments. Chemical changes during vermicomposting were measured and comparatively T2 showed great increase (from its initial level) for total N (25.4%), phosphorus (72.8%) and potassium (20.9%) than the other treatments. T2 also showed higher vermicomposting coefficient (VC), higher mean biomass for P. excavatus (146.68 mg) and higher cocoon production (about 21.9% and 645.5% more than the T1 and T3, respectively). Maximum earthworm mortality during vermicomposting was recorded with T3 treatment while zero mortality was recorded for T2 treatment after 150 days. Overall, T2 treatment appeared to be an ideal combination for enhancing maximum biopotential of earthworms to management guar gum industrial waste as well as for earthworm biomass and cocoon production.  相似文献

Solid waste management is a worldwide problem and it is becoming more and more complicated day by day due to rise in population, industrialization and changes in our life style. Transformation of industrial sludges into vermicompost is of double interest: on the one hand, a waste is converted into value added product, and, on the other, it controls a pollutant that is a consequence of increasing industrialization. Garden waste, kitchen waste and cow dung were subjected to recycle through vermicomposting by using the epigeic earthworm Eisenia fetida under field conditions. The pH, moisture content, total organic carbon, humus, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in vermicompost was analysed. It was found that moisture content, total organic carbon, humus, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium was high in cow dung, followed by kitchen waste and garden waste. This study clearly indicates that vermicomposting of garden waste, kitchen waste and cow dung can not only produce a value added produce (vermicomposting) but at the same time reduce the quantity of waste.  相似文献

Abstract The effects of the earthworm Pontoscolex corethrurus (Muller) on the rate of mineralization of cattle dung‐amended iron (Fe2 + ) ore mine wastes and its preference for partially decomposed leaf litter with contrasting chemical composition were studied in pot trials. The growth and survival rates of earthworms showed significant positive correlations with percent of organic matter. During 96 days of exposure, the earthworms significantly increased exchangeable Ca2 + , Mg2 + , PO43 ? and NH4‐N. Iron ore mine wastes amended with 5–10% organic matter supported earthworm fauna better than mine wastes amended with 0–3% organic matter. The leaf litter preference shown by the earthworm was, in descending order, Phyllanthus reticulatus, Tamarindus indica, Anacardium occidentale, Casuarina equisetifolia, Acacia auriculiformis, and Eucalyptus camaldulensis. A significant positive correlation was observed between the survival and growth rates of earthworms and the nutrient contents of partially decomposed leaf litter. The first three plant species were significantly richer in nutrients, mainly organic carbon, calcium, phosphorus, and nitrogen, than the other two plant species. Acacia auriculiformis and E. camaldulensis litter were preferred less because of their high lignin and polyphenolic compounds, despite being rich in other macronutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. It is concluded that the introduction of P. corethrurus to cattle dung‐amended (5–10%) iron ore mine wastes or revegetation of the sites with P. reticulatus, T. indica, and A. occidentale plant species should be attempted before earthworm introduction. The litter from these species acts as a source of food for earthworms, thereby hastening the process of restoration of abandoned iron ore mines of Goa, India.  相似文献

Vermicomposting using Lumbricus rubellus for 49 days was conducted after 21 days of pre-composting. Three different combination of treatments were prepared with eight replicates for each treatment namely cow dung: kitchen waste in 30:70 ratio (T(1)), cow dung: coffee grounds in 30:70 ratio (T(2)), and cow dung: kitchen waste: coffee grounds in 30:35:35 ratio (T(3)). The multiplication of earthworms in terms of numbers and weight were measured at the end of vermicomposting. Consequently, only T(2) showed significant increase (from it initial stage) compared to other treatments. The presence of coffee grounds in T(2) and T(3) showed higher percentage of nutrient elements in vermicompost produced. The data reveal that coffee grounds can be decomposed through vermicomposting and help to enhance the quality of vermicompost produced rather than sole use of kitchen waste in vermicomposting.  相似文献

This work illustrates the feasibility of vermitechnology to stabilize sludge from an agro-industry. To achieve the goal, industrial sludge (IS) was mixed with three different bulky agents, i.e. cow dung (CD), biogas plant slurry (BGS) and wheat straw (WS), in different ratios to produce nine different feed mixtures for earthworm Eisenia fetida. Vermicomposting bedding material was analyzed for its different physic-chemical parameters after 15 weeks of experimentations. In all waste mixtures, a decrease in pH, organic C and C:N ratio, but increase in total N, available P, exchangeable K, exchangeable Ca and trace elements (Mg, Fe and Zn) was recorded. IS (40%) + CD (60%) and IS (40%) + BGS (60%) vermibeds showed the highest mineralization rate and earthworm growth patterns during vermicomposting process. Vermicompost contains (dry weight basis) a considerable range of plant available forms of P (17.5–28.9 g kg?1), K (13.8–21.4 g kg?1), Ca (41.1–63.4 g kg?1), Mg (262.4–348.3 mg kg?1), Fe (559.8–513.0 mg kg?1) and Zn (363.1–253.6 mg kg?1). Earthworm growth parameters, i.e. biomass gain, total cocoon production, individual growth rate (mg wt. worm?1 day?1), natality rate, total fecundity were optimum in bedding containing 20–40% industrial sludge. C:N ratio of worm-processed material was within the agronomic acceptable or favorable limit (<15–20). The results clearly suggested that vermitechnology can be a potential technology to convert industrial sludges into vermifertilizer for sustainable land restoration practices.  相似文献

A pot study was conducted to compare the effects of amendments (CaHPO4 and cow manure) on growth and uptake of Cd and Zn from contaminated sediments by two wetland plant species, Typha angustifolia and Colocasia esculenta. Contaminated sediments (Cd 33.2 mg kg–1 and Zn 363 mg kg–1) were collected from Mae Tao basin, Mae Sot district, Tak province, Thailand. The experiment consisted of 4 treatments: control (uncontaminated sediment), Cd/Zn, Cd/Zn + 5% CaHPO4, and Cd/Zn + 10% cow manure. Plants were grown for 3 months in the greenhouse. The addition of CaHPO4 resulted in the highest relative growth rate (RGR) and highest Cd accumulation in both T. angustifolia and C. esculenta while the lowest RGR was found in C. esculenta grown in the cow manure treatment. Both plant species had higher concentrations of metals (Cd, Zn) in their belowground parts. None of the amendments affected Zn accumulation. C. esculenta exhibited the highest uptake of both Cd and Zn. The results clearly demonstrated the phytoremediation potential of C. esculenta and the enhancement of this potential by CaHPO4 amendment.  相似文献

The fate of nitrogen from15N-labelled sheep manure and ammonium sulfate in small lysimeters and plots in the field was studied during two growth seasons. In April 1991,15N-labelled sheep faeces (87 kg N ha–1) plus unlabelled (NH4)2SO4 (90 kg N ha–1), and (15NH4)2SO4 (90 kg N ha–1) were each applied to three soils; soil 1 (100% soil + 0% quartz sand), soil 2 (50% soil + 50% quartz sand) and soil 3 (25% soil + 75% quartz sand). The lysimeters were cropped with spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and undersown ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). The barley crop recovered 16–17% of the labelled manure N and 56% of the labelled (NH4)2SO4-N. After 18 months 30% of the labelled manure N and 65% of the labelled (NH4)2SO4-N were accumulated in barley, the succeeding ryegrass crop and in leachate collected below 45 cm of soil, irrespective of the soil-sand mixture. Calculating the barley uptake of manure N by difference of N uptake between manured and unmanured soils, indicated that 4%, 10% and 14% of the applied manure N was recovered in barley grown on soil-sand mixtures with 16%, 8% and 4% clay, respectively. The results indicated that the mineralization of labelled manure N was similar in the three soil-sand mixtures, but that the manure caused a higher immobilization of unlabelled ammonium-N in the soil with the highest clay content. Some of the immobilized N apparently was remineralized during the autumn and the subsequent growth season. After 18 months, 11–19% of the labelled manure N was found in the subsoil (10–45 cm) of the lysimeters, most of this labelled N probably transported to depth as organic forms by leaching or through the activities of soil fauna. In unplanted soils 67–74% of the labelled manure N was recovered in organic form in the 0–10 cm soil layer after 4 months, declining to 55–64% after 18 months. The lowest recovery of labelled N in top-soil was found in the soil-sand mixture with the lowest clay content. The mass balance of15N showed that the total recovery of labelled N was close to 100%. Thus, no significant gaseous losses of labelled N occurred during the experiment.  相似文献

Allometric plasticity in a polyphenic beetle   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract 1. Environmental conditions, such as variation in nutrition, commonly contribute to morphological variation among individuals by affecting body size and the expression of certain morphological traits; however the scaling relationship between a morphological trait and body size over a range of body sizes is generally assumed not to change in response to environmental fluctuation (allometric plasticity), but instead to be constant and diagnostic for a particular trait and species or population. The work reported here examined diet‐induced allometric plasticity in the polyphenic beetle Onthophagus taurus Schreber (1759) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). 2. Male O. taurus vary in body size depending on larval nutrition. Only males above a critical body size threshold express fully developed horns; males smaller than this threshold develop only rudimentary horns or no horns at all. 3. Field populations that naturally utilise two different resources for feeding larvae (horse dung vs. cow manure) exhibited significant differences in the average scaling relationship between body size and male horn length over the same range of body sizes. Males collected from cow manure populations expressed consistently longer horns for a given body size than males collected from horse dung populations. 4. Males reared in the laboratory on horse dung or cow manure also exhibited significant differences in the average scaling relationship between body size and horn length. Differences between laboratory populations reared on horse dung or cow manure were of the same kind and magnitude as differences between field populations that utilise these different resources naturally. 5. These findings suggest that between‐population differences in scaling relationships between horn length and body size can be the product of differences in the quality of resources available to developing larvae. Results are discussed in the context of onthophagine mating systems and recent insights in the developmental and endocrine control of horn polyphenisms.  相似文献

Recycling of organic wastes by employing Eisenia fetida   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4

This paper reports the recycling of nutrients by vermicomposting of cow dung (CD), poultry droppings (PD) and food industry sludge (FIS) employing earthworms (Eisenia fetida). A total of six vermicomposting units were established and dynamics of chemical and biological parameters has been studied for 13 weeks. The waste mixture containing 50% CD+25% PD+25% FIS had better fertilizer value among studied waste combinations. At the end of experiment, vermicomposts showed decrease in pH and organic C, but increase in EC, total Kjeldhal N, total available P and total K contents. The C:N ratio of final vermicomposts also reduced to 10.7-12.7 from 22.8 to 56 in different waste combinations. The earthworms have good biomass gain and cocoon production in all vermicomposting units but CD alone and 50% CD+25% PD+25% FIS were better than other studied combinations.  相似文献

The effect of long-term (1983–1988) applications of crop residues (millet straw, 2–4 t ha-1 yr–1) and/or mineral fertilizer (30 kg N, 13 kg P and 25 kg K ha-1 yr-1) on uptake of phosphorus (P) and other nutrients, root growth and mycorrhizal colonization of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) was examined for two seasons (1987 and 1988) on an acid sandy soil in Niger. Treatments of the long-term field experiment were: control (–CR–F), mineral fertilizer only (–CR+F), crop residues only (+CR–F), and crop residues plus mineral fertilizer (+CR+F).In both years, total P uptake was similar for +CR–F and –CR+F treatments (1.6–3.5 kg P ha-1), although available soil P concentration (Bray I P) was considerably lower in +CR–F (3.2 mg P kg-1 soil) than in –CR+F (7.4) soil. In the treatments with mineral fertilizers (–CR+F; +CR+F), crop residues increased available soil P concentrations (Bray I P) from 7.4 to 8.9 mg kg-1 soil, while total P uptake increased from 3.6 to 10.6 kg P ha-1. In 1987 (with 450 mm of rainfall), leaf P concentrations of 30-day-old millet plants were in the deficiency range, but highest in the +CR+F treatment. In 1988 (699 mm), leaf P concentrations were distinctly higher, and again highest in the +CR+F treatment. In the treatments without crop residues (–CR–F; –CR+F), potassium (K) concentrations in the leaves indicated K deficiency, while application of crop residues (+CR–F; +CR+F) substantially raised leaf K concentrations and total K uptake. Leaf concentrations of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) were hardly affected by the different treatments. In the topsoil (0–30 cm), root length density of millet plants was greater for +CR+F (6.5 cm cm-3) than for +CR–F (4.5 cm cm-3) and –CR+F (4.2 cm cm-3) treatments. Below 30 cm soil depth, root length density of all treatments declined rapidly from about 0.6 cm cm-3 (30–60 cm soil depth) to 0.2 cm cm-3 (120–180 cm soil depth). During the period of high uptake rates of P (42–80 DAP), root colonization with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi was low in 1987 (15–20%), but distinctly higher in 1988 (55–60%). Higher P uptake of +CR+F plants was related to a greater total root length in 0–30 cm and also to a higher P uptake rate per unit root length (P influx). Beneficial effects of crop residues on P uptake were primarily attributed to higher P mobility in the soil due to decreased concentrations of exchangeable Al, and enhancement of root growth. In contrast, the beneficial effect of crop residues on K uptake was caused by direct K supply with the millet straw.  相似文献

Based on the massive production of cow and poultry manures, farmers in Saudi Arabia are moving towards the application of organic fertilizers in their farms. Therefore, the present work was conducted to study the response of soil and selected vegetable crops to poultry and cow manures, using ground data and Landsat-8 and Hyperion images. The studied vegetable crops are cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and lettuce. A total of 100 t ha?1 organic manures were applied as a pre-planting treatment. A 12.5 ha field in Tawdeehiya Farms, 200 km southeast of Riyadh, was earmarked for this study. The field was divided into sectors cultivated with the above-mentioned vegetable crops. Soil characteristics, including the soil pH, the electric conductivity (EC), the nitrogen (N), the phosphorus (P) and the potassium (K), were examined before the application of manures and 25 days after the transplanting process. Observations on crops chlorophyll content, number of leaves, the diameter of merchantable products and yield were also investigated. Furthermore, the relationship between the crop performance and yield was investigated through the satellite images generated vegetation indices (VIs). This study revealed the better performance of poultry manure compared to cow manure in terms of development and production parameters of the experimental crops. Dynamics of the chlorophyll content across the crop growth period revealed that all the tested crops responded significantly (R2 = 0.69; P = 0.001) to the poultry manure treatments. Among the tested crops, the chlorophyll content, curd or head sizes and crop yields were quite better in poultry manure applied plots. The investigation of crop yield was significant with poultry manure (R2 = 0.64; P = 0.001) than cow manure (R2 = 0.57; P = 0.001) using the OSAVI and mNDVI, respectively.  相似文献

This study investigated whether composting methods differ in their impact on seed germination of Rumex obtusifolius (broad‐leaved dock). Weed seeds were buried in windrows of cattle farmyard manure, removed at monthly intervals and germinated during the course of 7 months. Composting methods differed in the maximum temperatures reached (63°C for conventional and biodynamic composting and 35°C for vermicomposting), the addition of 1000 m?2 earthworms (Eisenia fetida) for vermicomposting and the inoculation of biodynamic preparations for biodynamic composting. After 1 month in windrows, germination rate of Rumex seeds was significantly higher in vermicompost (48%) than in conventional (28%) or biodynamic compost (18%). After 2 months in windrows, 26% of the seeds germinated in vermicomposting windrows, while those inserted in conventional and biodynamic windrows showed a negligible germination (0% and 2%, respectively). After 3 and 4 months, only seeds under vermicomposting germinated (22% and 3%, respectively). No germination was determined when seeds were inserted for longer than 4 months in any of the treatments. Seeds stored at room temperature germinated at 89% over the course of the experiment. Results suggest that the maximum temperature reached in windrows is not the single main factor reducing weed seed germination during composting.  相似文献

The objective of this paper was to investigate the possible agricultural use of the vermicomposting process leachates. Two leachates coming, respectively, from the vermicomposting of cow dung (SCD) and the vermicomposting of green forages (SGF), as well as solution of Hewitt (C) were used at a dose of 1 ml 500 ml(-1) in the foliar fertilization of tomato plants. Treatments were applied 30, 60 and 90 days after planting (DAP). The obtained results showed that foliar fertilization with SCD and SGF increased the morphological and chemical parameters on tomato crop with respect to the plants receiving foliar treatment with SH and C, possibly due to the humic substances content in SCD and SGF. The higher content of humic substances in SGF with respect to the SCD are possibly the responsible of the higher chlorophyll contents observed in the plants receiving the former treatment. This aspect possibly promoted an increase in plant photosynthesis and therefore an increase in fruit quality.  相似文献
