A natural settlement of Brauner’s rock lizards was observed on the Navagir Ridge (Krasnodar region) in the years 1997–2006. In various years, the settlement included from 18 to 28 adult individuals. Analysis of the frequency of affiliative behavior in the course of intersexual contacts and the frequency of males’ attendance of female’s comfort zones revealed three types of intersexual dyad relationships: (1) friendly, or A-relations (maximal values of both indices; maximal duration of interrelation; and the only reason for the termination of interrelations is death of one of the partners); (2) R-relations (minimal values of all the indices and the main reason for the termination of interrelations is female resettlement); and (3) N-relations (intermediate values of indices and the main reason for the termination of interrelations is transition to another type). Both males and females could simultaneously have several R- and N-interrelations. In males, the A-relations towards only a single female was always observed. In females, the A-relations could form simultaneously with two males. Approximately one-third of the friendly connected groups were polyandrous triads (female and two males); the rest were monogamous (male and female). Apparently, in this species there is a general tendency towards social polyandry, which is restrained by certain social and/or environmental factors. 相似文献

Using monolocus PCR analysis with the pairs of primers designed for the Du215 locus of Darevskia unisexualis, allelic polymorphism at the orthologous locus in the populations of the related parthenospecies D. armeniaca was investigated. It was demonstrated that Du215 (arm) locus was polymorphic and in the populations of parthenospecies D. armeniaca (n = 127) represented by at least three allelic variants, differing from each other by the size and composition of microsatellite cluster, and by single nucleotide substitutions in flanking DNA. Unlike the Du215 locus, Du215 (arm) was shown contain not only GATA, but also (GACA) repeats, which were absent in D. unisexualis. Thus, in this study, the data on the molecular nature of allelic polymorphism at one of the microsatellite loci of the parthenospecies D. armeniaca were reported. 相似文献

To characterize the molecular genetic diversity of the genus Darevskia, several populations were examined by the inter-SINE-PCR method, reporting the number and sizes of the spacers between individual copies of SINE-like interspersed repeats. Examination of 17 D. raddei geographical populations and several reference species revealed unequal genetic differences, measured as Nei and Li’s genetic distances (DNL), for different groups of samples. The highest homogeneity was observed for the apparently panmictic D. raddei nairensis population from the basin of the Hrazdan River: genetic differences within each of the five samples and between them were similarly low (less than 0.1). The difference between ten samples of D. raddei raddei from Armenia and Karabakh (0.2–0.3) was somewhat higher than the interindividual difference within each sample (0.1–0.2), indicating that the samples belonged to different populations. The assumption was supported by the phylogenetic tree topology and multidimensional scaling. The differences between samples from the morphological subspecies D. raddei raddei and D. raddei nairensis ranged 0.3–0.4. The difference of two D. raddei raddei samples of Talysh (Azerbaijan) from other samples of the same subspecies corresponded to the subspecific level. The genetic distances between the good species D. raddei and D. rudis was 0.6–0.7. In terms of DNL, a questionable population from northwestern Turkey (“D. tristis”) was closer to D. rudis (DNL = 0.45), probably representing its subspecies. The phylogeography of D. raddei is discussed. 相似文献

We sequenced the complete control region (CR) and adjacent tRNAs, partial 12S rRNA, and cytochrome b (over 3100 bp) from eight individuals of Madeiran wall lizards, Lacerta dugesii, from four distinct island populations. The tRNAs exhibit a high degree of intraspecific polymorphisms compared to other vertebrates. All CR sequences include a minisatellite that varies in length between populations but is apparently fixed within them. Variation in minisatellite length appears between populations separated by apparently very short evolutionary time spans. Many motifs identified in the CR of other vertebrates are not highly conserved, although conserved blocks are identifiable between the few published reptile CR sequences. Overall there are extensive differences in the internal organization of the reptile CR compared to the more widely studied mammals and birds. Variability in the CR is lower than in cytochrome b, but higher than in 12S rRNA. Phylogenetic analysis of these sequences produces a well-resolved estimate of relationships between populations. 相似文献

Although mate preferences are most commonly examined in females, they are often found in both sexes. In the parasitoid wasp Urolepis rufipes, both female and male mating status affected certain aspects of sexual interactions. Female mating status mattered only in the later stages of mating. Males did not discriminate between virgin and mated females in terms of which they contacted or mounted first. However, once mounted, most virgin females were receptive to copulation, whereas very few mated females were. Whether a male’s mating status affected his own sexual response depended on the female’s ability to respond and the stage of mating. Examining male behavior toward dead females allowed elimination of the role of female behavior in how males responded. Virgin and mated males are both attracted to dead females as evidenced by their fanning their wings at such females. However, mated males were quicker than virgin males to contact and to mount in an experiment with dead females, whereas there was no such differential response in an experiment with live females. This difference is consistent with greater female sexual responsiveness to virgin males. Male mating status also affected female receptivity to copulate. Once mounted, live virgin females were less likely to become receptive to copulation by mated males than to virgin males, but only in a choice experiment, not in a no-choice experiment. 相似文献

In the present study, the first molecular genetic investigation of dinucleotide (GT) n microsatellite loci in parthenogenetic lizards Darevskia unisexualis was performed. New polymorphic locus, Du214, (GenBank Ac. No. EU252542) was identified and characterized in detail. It was demonstrated that allele of this locus differed in the size and structure of microsatellite locus, as well as in point mutations, the combinations of which enabled the isolation of stabile fixed double nucleotide substitutions A-A (alleles 2 and 4) and G-T (alleles 1, 3, 5, and 6). Double nucleotide substitutions described were also identified in the orthlogous loci of the parental species genomes, D. raddei (G-T) and D. valentine (A-A). Based on the analysis of allele distribution pattern at this locus in all populations of parthenospecies D. unisexualis, mathematic model was elaborated and realized. Using this model, frequencies of allelic variants for all populations of the species of interest were calculated and population genetic structure of D. unisexualis was characterized. Genetic contribution of each population to the species gene pool was determined. The data obtained demonstrated that microsatellite variation was one of the factors of clonal and genetic diversity of a parthenospecies. 相似文献

Locus-specific PCR was used to study the genetic polymorphism in three populations of parthenogenetic lizard species Darevskia dahli. The analysis was carried at the two (GATA) n -containing loci (Du215 and Du281) using the sample of 26 individuals. A total of eight Du215 and three Du281 allelic variants were detected. It was demonstrated that all the lizards examined were heterozygous at these loci. In 12 animals, unusual Du215 allelic variant was revealed, the origin of which was thought to be associated with different types of genomic rearrangements, or segmental duplication. The populations studied were substantially different relative to the levels of allelic polymorphism, which could be explained by different habitation conditions, leading to accumulation of mutations in noncoding genome regions. 相似文献

As partial results of a long-term project for the revision of the supraspecific classification of the American Melolonthini, using phylogenetic methods, interesting information on the relationships between the subgeneric groups of Phyllophaga Harris proposed by Saylor were obtained. The genus Listrochelus was described by Blanchard in 1851. However, in 1940, Saylor reduced it as a subgenus of Phyllophaga. The objective of the present study is to confirm the monophyly of Listrochelus by means of a phylogenetic analysis. A total of 132 species were analyzed; 31 species of them belong to Listrochelus, 76 are from other groups of Phyllophaga, and 25 species are from the outgroup. A morphological matrix with 281 characters was codified. A traditional search with 1000 iterations was performed in TNT. Branch support was investigated using the bootstrap method. Parsimony analysis resulted in ten equally parsimonious trees. The topology obtained in the strict consensus tree shows that the limits of Listrochelus are very clear (bootstrap 99%), supported by five synapomorphies and a combination of eight character states that are not exclusive to the group. Based on the hypothesis obtained, the restitution of the genus Listrochelus is proposed. 相似文献

Wild relatives of Brassica are a rich reservoir of genes that are invaluable for the improvement of cultivated species. Sinapis alba is a close relative of crop Brassicas that possesses several desirable traits such as tolerance to Alternaria black spot disease, heat stress, insect pests and nematodes. This study is aimed at developing and characterizing hybrids between Brassica juncea and S. alba with the ultimate goal of transferring genes for tolerance to Alternaria brassicae and heat stress, the traits that are lacking in cultivated Brassica. We generated three hybrids between B. juncea and S. alba through protoplast fusion. The hybridity was confirmed through cytology and molecular markers. While two of the hybrids were symmetric, the third one was asymmetric and had greater resemblance to B. juncea. Hybrids showed some characteristic features of the parents and were fully male and female fertile and also set seeds upon back crossing with the parent species. In vitro leaf assay and field inoculation studies revealed that the hybrids are highly resistant to A. brassicae. Besides, hybrids set seeds at temperature of >?38 °C when parents failed to produce seeds indicating that hybrids possess heat tolerance. These stable hybrids provide a reliable genetic resource for transfer of genes from S. alba into cultivated Brassica species. 相似文献

Summary Interspecific facultative social parasitism is well known in ants and in bumble-bees, but it is rarer in wasps. This form of parasitism is traditionally considered to be an intermediate stage in the evolution of obligate interspecific parasitism, where the parasites are no longer able to nest alone. We report field and experimental observations of a newly discovered facultative parasitic relationship between two closely related free-living Polistes species: P. nimphus and P. dominulus. P. nimphus foundresses sometimes usurp the nests of the larger P. dominulus before worker emergence. The invading queen takes over the nest with abundant abdomen stroking on the nest surface and is accepted by workers if they emerge 6 or more days after usurpation. Morphometric comparisons show that the usurper species, though smaller than its victims, has morphological adaptations consisting of larger heads, mandibles and front femora relative to their body size that may give it an advantage during nest invasion. This strategy is likely to be taken only after the foundress loses her original nest because invading P. nimphus queens have lower reproductive success than they would have had on their own nest. Overall, we found that P. nimphus usurpers use strategies of invasion similar to those of two obligate parasites, suggesting that this may be an example of one of the pathways by which social parasitism evolved.Received 4 April 2003; revised 8 August 2003; accepted 14 September 2003. 相似文献

mercedesae is a serious ectoparasite of Apis
mellifera in China. The aim of this study was to investigate the infestation rates and intensity of T. mercedesae in A. mellifera in China, and to explore the relative importance of climate, district, management practices and beekeeper characteristics
that are assumed to be associated with the intensity of T. mercedesae. Of the 410 participating apiaries, 379 apiaries were included in analyses of seasonal infestation rates and 352 apiaries
were included in multivariable regression analysis. The highest infestation rate (86.3%) of T. mercedesae was encountered in autumn, followed by summer (66.5%), spring (17.2%) and winter (14.8%). In autumn, 28.9% (93) of the infested
apiaries were in the north (including the northeast and northwest of China), 71.1% (229) were in the central and south (including
east, southeast and southwest China), and 306 apiaries (82.9%) were co-infested by both T. mercedesae and Varroa. Multivariable regression analysis showed that geographical location, season, royal jelly collection and Varroa infestation were the factors that influence the intensity of T. mercedesae. The influence of beekeeper’s education, time of beekeeping, operation size, and hive migration on the intensity of T. mercedesa was not statistically significant. This study provided information about the establishment of the linkage of the environment
and the parasite and could lead to better timing and methods of control. 相似文献

A key issue in the study of unisexual (parthenogenetic) vertebrate species is the determination of their genetic and clonal diversity. In pursuing this aim, various markers of nuclear and mitochondrial genomes can be used. The most effective genetic markers include microsatellite DNA, characterized by high variability. The development and characterization of such markers is a necessary step in the genetic studies of parthenogenetic species. In the present study, using locus-specific PCR, for the first time, an analysis of allelic polymorphism of four microsatellite loci is performed in the populations of parthenogenetic species Darevskia armeniaca. In the studied populations, allelic variants of each locus are identified, and the nucleotide sequences of each allele are determined. It is demonstrated that allele differences are associated with the variation in the structure of microsatellite clusters and single nucleotide substitutions at fixed distances in flanking DNA regions. Structural allele variations form haplotype markers that are specific to each allele and are inherited from their parental bisexual species. It is established which of the parental alleles of each locus were inherited by the parthenogenetic species. The characteristics of the distribution and frequency of the alleles of microsatellite loci in the populations of D. armeniaca determining specific features of each population are obtained. The observed heterozygosity of the populations at the studied loci and the mutation rates in genome regions, as well as Nei’s genetic distances between the studied populations, are determined, and the phylogenetic relationships between them are established. 相似文献

The pre-steady states of Pseudomonas species lipase inhibitions by p-nitrophenyl-N-substituted carbamates (1–6) are composed of two steps: (1) formation of the non-covalent enzyme–inhibitor complex (E:I) from the inhibitor and the enzyme
and (2) formation of the tetrahedral enzyme–inhibitor adduct (E–I) from the E:I complex. From a stopped-flow apparatus, the
dissociation constant for the E:I complex, KS, and the rate constant for formation of the tetrahedral E–I adduct from the E:I complex, k2 are obtained from the non-linear least-squares of curve fittings of first-order rate constant (kobs) versus inhibition concentration ([I]) plot against kobs=k2+k2[I]/(KS+[I]). Values of pKS, and log k2 are linearly correlated with the σ* values with the ρ* values of −2.0 and 0.36, respectively. Therefore, the E:I complexes are more positive charges than the inhibitors due to
the ρ* value of −2.0. The tetrahedral E–I adducts on the other hand are more negative charges than the E:I complexes due to the
ρ* value of 0.36. Formation of the E:I complex from the inhibitor and the enzyme are further divided into two steps: (1) the
pre-equilibrium protonation of the inhibitor and (2) formation of the E:I complex from the protonated inhibitor and the enzyme. 相似文献

Ogataea
parapolymorpha sp. n. (NRRL YB-1982, CBS 12304, type strain), the ascosporic state of Candida
parapolymorpha, is described. The species appears homothallic, assimilates methanol as is typical of most Ogataea species and forms hat-shaped ascospores in asci that become deliquescent. O. parapolymorpha is closely related to Ogataea
angusta and Ogataea
polymorpha. The three species can be resolved from gene sequence analyses but are unresolved from fermentation and growth reactions
that are typically used for yeast identification. On the basis of multiple isolates, O. angusta is known only from California, USA, in association with Drosophila and Aulacigaster flies, O. parapolymorpha is predominantly associated with insect frass from trees in the eastern USA but O. polymorpha has been isolated from various substrates in the USA, Brazil, Spain and Costa Rica. 相似文献

Capuchins rub particular plant materials into their pelage, a behavior for which most authors have proposed a medicinal function
(Baker in American Journal of Primatology 38:263–270, 1996, Baker, M. (1998). Fur Rubbing as Evidence for Medicinal Plant Use by Capuchin Monkeys (Cebus capucinus): Ecological, Social, and Cognitive Aspects of the Behavior. Dissertation thesis. University of California Riverside; DeJoseph
et al. in Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology 46:924–925, 2002). Individuals fur-rub solitarily or in groups, but researchers
have not conducted studies to understand the differences. We investigated the link between the form of fur-rubbing and other
social variables in 2 capuchin species. We supplied 2 captive groups —white-faced capuchins and tufted capuchins— with citrus
fruit and onions and explored the behavioral processes and social aspects underlying the activity. We documented the occurrence,
number of participants, and effect of recruitment behaviors in fur-rubbing subgroups. We investigated the role of kinship,
affiliation, and dominance relationships in accounting for fur-rubbing groups. There is a significant difference in the form
of fur-rubbing between white-faced and tufted capuchins. White-faced capuchins fur-rubbed mainly in subgroups and performed
a particular behavior to recruit prospective participants, whereas tufted capuchins fur-rubbed mainly alone, and showed no
particular motivation to be joined by other group members. White-faced capuchins could fur-rub together frequently, whatever
their degree of kinship, affiliation, or dominance interval. In tufted capuchins, fur-rubbing appeared to be significantly
affected by kinship and dominance. 相似文献

Studies were conducted on the host searching behavior of the larval parasitoid Cotesia sesamiae (Cameron) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and the pupal parasitoid Dentichasmias busseolae Heinrich (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), both of which attack lepidopteran (Crambidae, Noctuidae) cereal stemborers. The behavior of D. busseolae was observed in a diversified habitat that consisted of stemborer host plants (maize, Zea mays L. and sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L). Moench (Poaceae)) and a non-host plant (molasses grass, Melinis minutiflora Beauv. (Poaceae)), while C. sesamiae was observed separately on host plants and molasses grass. In previous olfactometer studies, C. sesamiae was attracted to molasses grass volatiles while hboxD. busseolae was repelled. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of molasses grass on close-range foraging behavior of the parasitoids in an arena that included infested and uninfested host plants. Dentichasmias busseolae strongly discriminated between host and non-host plants, with female wasps spending most of the time on infested host plants and least time on molasses grass. Likewise, C. sesamiae spent more time on uninfested and infested host plants than it did on molasses grass in single choice bioassays. While on infested plants, the wasps spent more time foraging on the stem, the site of damage, than on other areas of the plant. Overall, the results indicate that presence of the non-host plant does not hinder close range foraging activities of either parasitoid. 相似文献

Recent comparative studies on the evolution of mammalian sociality came to opposite conclusions regarding the direction and drivers of evolutionary transitions in social organization, particularly concerning the evolution of pair-living among primates. Because the genus Eulemur is one of the few exceptional primate genera that contain both group- and pair-living species, eulemurs offer a rare opportunity to illuminate the processes driving social diversity among species with very similar life histories and ecologies. The aims of our study were therefore 1) to reconstruct the evolution of social organization in eulemurs with new demographic and phylogenetic data and 2) to evaluate several hypotheses about the evolution of pair-living with data from our long-term study of Eulemur rufifrons and published data on other eulemurs. Our review of published data confirmed that E. mongoz and E. rubriventer are pair-living, whereas the 10 other species of Eulemur live in groups with multiple adult males and females. Furthermore, pair-living evolved at least once among eulemurs from group-living ancestors. The available comparative evidence indicated that this evolutionary transition was probably not driven by male infanticide, social instability, or singular ecological factors. Instead, we propose that female competition has favored small female group size and that this effect may have been exacerbated by interspecific competition with sympatric congeners in the ancestors of the pair-living species. In conclusion, we confirmed that the evolution of pair-living from group-living ancestors among true lemurs is exceptional, but not unique, among mammals, and that commonly invoked hypotheses for the evolution of pair-living do not appear to be supported for this genus. 相似文献
