This study is focused on the depositional model and paleoenvironmental distribution patterns of orbitolinids-rich microfacies in an Upper Cretaceous carbonate succession in the Kuh-e Mazar anticline in Kerman Province, Central Iran. Twelve microfacies indicating a tidal flat (including intertidal and supratidal) and an inner ramp (consisting of subtidal lagoon and orbitolinid–rudist barrier shoal) belonging to a shallow-water ramp-type carbonate platform were recognised. Generally, the orbitolinid associations in the carbonate ramp are indicative of shallow warm waters with normal salinity. The occurrence and abundance of thick or conical orbitolinids in both shoal and lagoon show that such associations were well adapted to different environmental conditions including different depth, substrate stability and water energy. The slightly discoidal, almost discoidal and discoidal forms were only present in the deeper depths of the environment including the lagoon with muddy and more stable substrates and lower water energy. However, the orbitolinids in the inner part of the carbonate ramp were scarce or almost absent in the deep inner to middle lagoon due to the deep restricted environmental conditions unfavourable for benthic marine life.  相似文献

The Asmari Formation is a thick carbonate succession of the Oligo-Miocene in Zagros Mountains (southwest Iran). In order to interpret the facies and depositional environment of the Asmari Formation, three measured sections were studied in Fars area for microfacies analyses. There, 12 microfacies types are distinguished based on their depositional textures, petrographic analysis, and fauna. Thus, three major depositional environments were identified in the Asmari Formation including open-marine, reef/shoal, and lagoon. Sr/Ca ratios in modern brachiopod shells reflect variations in ambient seawater, whereas their Na contents show no relationship with water depth or habitat. Their Mn and Fe contents are controlled, in part, by leaching of these elements from oxide coatings or the low input/sedimentation rate of detrital material into depositional areas such as Quatsino Sound. For most Carboniferous brachiopods from North America, the Mn and Fe contents are similar to those recorded by their Recent counterparts. The high Mn and Fe contents in the brachiopods from shales suggest several possibilities for these levels. One possibility is the leaching of Mn and Fe from oxide coatings/matrix which was not completely removed in the cleaning process, or the high levels in part reflect unusual depositional conditions (some degree of anoxia) for the local shaly environments. The Sr/Ca ratio of brachiopods and, by inference, complementary seawater, did not vary significantly during the Carboniferous. The Sr/Ca minimum observed in brachiopods of Mississippian age coincides with a dip in the 87Sr/86Sr curve and correlates with the Hercynian orogeny. This is attributed to the cycling of seawater through mid-ocean ridge basalts, and postulated exchange reactions account for variation in the composition of seawater-Ca. The unidirectional trend of heavier δ13C values from the Devonian to the Permian is intricately coupled with the evolution of the terrestrial biomass. In addition to expansion of terrestrial plants, burial of reduced carbon in the form of coal (organic matter) contributed to the observed shift. The start of the Permo-Pennsylvanian glaciation is marked by a negative excursion of the secular carbon trend, which is linked to weathering of reduced carbon and its return to the oceanic reservoir with its oxidized carbon. The oxygen isotope values reflect the unidirectional trend towards higher values of the carbon data with decreasing geologic age. Negative excursions of the trend may be related to extensive weathering of terrestrial and submarine rocks, whereas positive excursions may be related to hydrothermal alteration of submarine rocks and dehydration of oceanic crust during times of active sea-floor spreading. Oxygen-calculated water temperatures of unaltered brachiopod material are unrealistically high for all of the Devonian, and the Chesterian-Meramecian, Desmoinesian-Missourian, and Artinskian Epochs. During these times maximum water temperatures of 42° to 56°C are well above the thermal threshold of protein denaturation. This process, which is lethal to most higher organisms, demands an adjustment in oxygen of -2.5%. for samples older than Missourian, and of -1.250%. for samples spanning the Missourian-Artinskian interval. With these adjustments and salinity considerations made prior to calculations, water temperatures become reasonable for the Late Paleozoic epeiric, tropical seas of North America.  相似文献

The Late Oxfordian–Early Kimmeridgian interval of the eastern part of the Paris Basin is characterized by a carbonate succession deposited in shallow-marine platform environments. The Gudmont-Villiers section is represented by deposits ranging from barrier to typical lagoonal environments often poor in macrofossils. Previously unpublished calcareous microfossils are more abundant and provide alternative paleoenvironmental indicators. They also provide a biostratigraphical framework across the Oxfordian–Kimmeridgian boundary. The evolution of microfossil associations (algae and benthic foraminifera) in the lower part of the section, based on statistical analyses, is correlated to the sea-level variations. The first highly diversified association composed of small agglutinated and calcitic foraminifera (miliolids, textulariids, Spirillina, Trocholina, Molherina basiliensis etc.) characterizes high sea-level deposits; a second association richer in large agglutinated foraminifera (Alveosepta jaccardi, Everticyclammina, Nautiloculina oolithica) is significantly abundant in low sea-level deposits. A third association characterizes beds with a significant occurrence of encrusting microorganisms and algae (Lithocodium aggregatum, Troglotella incrustans, Cayeuxia piae, dasycladaceans). The upper part of the section is marked by more argillaceous beds and by the occurrence of one opportunist taxon (Lenticulina). This study shows that the microfauna-flora evolution in an internal carbonate platform environment constitute an efficient tool to determine variations in the relative sea level.  相似文献

The concentrations of major (Al, Fe, Mg, Ti, K and Na) and minor (Ba, Sr, V, Cu, Mn, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb and Mo) elements as well as carbonate, organic carbon and total nitrogen have been determined in surface sediments collected at 12 stations from the Bardawil lagoon. The aim of the study was to characterize the geochemistry of the sediments in three different environments, the lagoon, the salt pans and the inlet between the lagoon and the Mediterranean Sea. Higher CaCO3 percentage (53.5–70.5%) were found in the salt pans where biogenic calcareous components and carbonate rock fragments were found in sufficient quantities in the sediment fractions. Based on high C/N ratios, the organic carbon fraction of the Bardawil lagoon surface sediments is clearly dominated by terrigenous material. The distribution of Al, Fe, Mg and Ti are essentially controlled by the mineralogy of the sediments. The ratios of Ba, Sr, Cu, Mn, Pb and Mo to Al are all high in the salt pans and reflect changes in mineralogy and sediment texture.  相似文献

Based on microfacies analyses and sedimentological data, 17 facies are identified within the Middle Miocene carbonates at Siwa Oasis in the northern Western Desert of Egypt. These facies are attributed to five main facies belts. Within these facies and facies belts, five foraminiferal assemblages are recognized. A depositional model relates the reported facies and biofacies to a down-dip depositional profile of an inner to middle carbonate ramp. The facies of the peritidal to restricted lagoon (facies belt 1) and the less-restricted lagoon (facies belt 2) were deposited in the inner ramp behind the barrier/beach shoal facies belt 3. Basinward, lime mudstone of facies belts 4 and 5 accumulated in a proximal to distal middle ramp, respectively. The depositional evolution involved three stages, which are strongly controlled by tectonics and eustatic sea-level changes. The first stage comprises the transgressive Lower Miocene clastic-dominated fluvial facies of the Moghra Formation. The second stage heralds the deposition of the Langhian inner-ramp carbonate and shale facies of the basal Oasis Member of the Marmarica Formation under a relatively high stand of sea level, constrained clastic influx and climate warming. The final stage is represented by Langhian to Serravallian mid-ramp carbonate-dominated facies of the Siwa Escarpment and El Diffa Plateau members under fluctuating sea level, and a westward restriction in clastic supply and water turbidity.  相似文献

Summary An extensive carbonate platform of predominately Middle Miocene age (Marmarica Formation) occupies the larger part of the northern plateau of the Western Desert of Egypt. The Marmarica Formation (up to 150m thick) exposed on the cliffs facing the Mediterranean coast consists mainly of alternating limestones and dolostones. Deposition took place in a shallow and normal marine environment. The limestones are dominated by algal boundstone, crossbedded packstone and bioturbated wackestone facies. The occurrence of the crossbedded packstone facies throughout the Marmarica Formation indicates that a shallow marine environment prevailed. Lithification of the precursor carbonates took place mainly in a meteoric environment. Replacement dolomitization ranged from fabric destructive to retentative and from fabric selective to pervasive. The presence of an abundant open marine fauna, the lack of evaporites, coupled with the contents of Sr and Na suggests that dolomitization took place in solutions more dilute than normal sea water. The limestone and dolostone facies cannot be separated into distinct types based on their major or trace element chemistry. Only Mn and Sr seem to be facially controlled. Both elements are particularly enriched in the lagoonal facies compared with the organic buildup facies. The difference in the Mn content is attributed to their proximity to continental areas at the time of deposition. The differences in Sr values are interpreted by an originally differing mineralogy (calcite versus aragonite) and different rates of diagenesis. Dolomitization did not appear to influence the Mn content as substantially as the Sr content. The amount of the acid insoluble residue is controlled by the distribution of Si, Ti, Al, Fe, k, Rb and Zr.  相似文献

The Middle–Upper Jurassic transition is a geodynamic benchmark in the evolutionary history of several peri-Atlantic basins. Contrary to the vast Tethyan and peri-Tethyan areas, in the Lusitanian Basin (Portugal), this interval corresponds to a major basin-wide disconformity preceded by a complex forced regression that induced sharp facies variations across the depositional systems. The Middle Jurassic units below are fully marine, whereas the Upper Jurassic sediments (Lower?-Middle Oxfordian), correspond to freshwater/brackish lacustrine, grading into punctuated brackish-restricted lagoonal and shallow-marine paleoenvironments. This study presents total organic carbon and palynofacies data of 34 samples (total analyzed thickness about 85 m) collected from three key sections encompassing the Middle–Upper Jurassic transition in the central-northern sector of the Lusitanian Basin. The palynofacies of the analyzed part of Middle Jurassic units (Cabo Mondego Formation) are characteristic of marine environments at their base, evidencing upwards a regressive trend of the depositional systems. Total organic carbon content is generally low, reaching up to 1.94 wt%. The Upper Jurassic Cabaços Formation presents kerogen assemblages mostly of continental origin, although punctuated by minor intervals of marine influence. Total organic carbon content is more variable, reaching up to 30.56 wt%. Intraclasts of re-deposited fragments of microbial mats were found incorporated in the kerogen assemblages, which point to highly dynamic erosional and depositional processes. Diversity of Botryococcus sp. occurrences was confirmed as an indicator of the degree of paleoenvironmental stability. The vertical distribution and comparison of the kerogen assemblages of the different sections indicate major changes of these parameters among relatively close settings and along narrow vertical intervals, attesting to the high sedimentary dynamics observed in the Lusitanian Basin.  相似文献

The Lower Cretaceous Fahliyan Formation, part of the Khami Group, unconformably overlies the Hith Formation and is conformably overlain by the Gadvan Formation in the study area in southern Iran. The Fahliyan Formation is a reservoir rock in Zagros Basin. This formation was investigated by a detailed petrographic analysis in order to clarify the depositional facies and sedimentary environment in the Kuh-e Siah Anticline in Boushehr Province. Petrographic studies led to the recognition of 25 microfacies that were deposited in four facies belts: tidal flat, lagoon, and shoal in inner ramp and shallow open-marine in mid-ramp environment. An absence of turbidite deposits, reefal facies, and gradual facies changes indicate that the Fahliyan Formation was deposited on a carbonate ramp. Calcareous algae and benthic foraminifera are abundant in the shallow marine carbonates of the Fahliyan Formation. These skeletal grains have been studied in order to increase the understanding of their distributions in time and space. A total of ten genera belonging to different groups of calcareous algae and 16 genera of benthic foraminifera are recognized from the Fahliyan Formation at Kuh-e Siah section.  相似文献

Imbalances in the concentrations of trace metals have become an increasingly recognized source of infirmity worldwide particularly in the development of ischemia heart disease (IHD). Present study is intended to analyze the concentrations of Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Pb, Sr, and Zn in the blood and scalp hair of the patients and counterpart controls by flame atomic absorption spectrometry after wet-acid digestion. On the average, Cd, Co, Cr, Fe, K, Li, Mn, Na, and Pb revealed significantly elevated concentrations in the blood of the patients compared with the controls (p < 0.05), whereas mean levels of Ca, Cd, Fe, K, Li, Pb, and Sr in the scalp hair were significantly higher in the patients than the controls (p < 0.05). Most of the metals exhibited noticeable disparities in their concentrations based on gender, abode, dietary/smoking habits, and occupations of both donor groups. The correlation study and multivariate statistical analyses revealed some significantly divergent associations and apportionment of the metals in both donor groups. Overall, comparative variations of the metal contents in blood/scalp hair of the patients were significantly different than the controls; thus, evaluation of trace metals status may be indicative of pathological disorders, such as IHD.  相似文献

基于地统计学和GIS技术相结合的方法,研究了南四湖区农田土壤有机质和微量元素的空间分布特征及其影响因素。结果表明,土壤有机质和微量元素均属中等变异程度,除硼符合正态分布外,其余土壤属性均符合对数正态分布。结构分析表明,除硼为纯块金效应外,土壤有机质和其它微量元素空间自相关性较强,其中结构性因素起主导作用。克里格插值结果表明,土壤有机质分布总体趋势为由北向南逐渐降低,锰、铜、锌分布总体趋势为中部高,南北两端低。影响因素分析表明,土壤类型、耕层质地、坡度、土地利用类型和地貌类型对土壤有机质均有显著影响。土壤类型主要是由于成土母质的差异影响土壤有机质的高低与分布,随质地由砂变粘、坡度由低变高,土壤有机质含量逐步升高,田间管理水平的差异是造成不同土地利用类型下土壤有机质含量差异的主要原因。微量元素中,除硼不受影响外,铁、锰、铜和锌与土壤类型、耕层质地、坡度、土地利用类型和地貌类型密切相关。  相似文献

The trabecular bone mass (TBM) of 29 bone cylinders (obtained at the iliac crest with a Bordier's trephine) belonging to non-sanile adult skeletons of the prehispanic inhabitants of the Western Canary Islands was determined histomorphometrically. Scanbning electron microscope and/or binocular microscope observations of the cylinders were also performed in order to exclude diagenetic alterations of the bones. Bone content of Sr, Mg, Mn, Co, Cu, Fe and Zn of the skeletons and of soil samples from the burials where they were found were also measured. These procedures were also performed in a control group of 21 preciously healthy individuals dead as a result of trauma. Although mean TBM values of the prehispanic samples not different from those of the control group, some individual TBM values of skeletons from La Palma and El Hierro were fully in the osteoporotic range. Individuals from La Palma and El Hierro showed high mean Sr, Mg and Mn bone contents, whereas Zn and Fe contents were below the normal range, indicating a mainly vegetarian diet. Individuals from Tenerife showed nearly normal Sr and Mg bone contents, low Zn and higher Fe values than those from the other islands; these results indicate a more mixed diet. No relationship was found between TBM and bone trace element contents.  相似文献

Cretaceous shallow-marine carbonate rocks of SW Slovenia were deposited in the northern part of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform. A 560-m-thick continuous Upper Cenomanian to Santonian carbonate succession has been studied near Hru?ica Village in Matarsko Podolje. With regard to lithological, sedimentological, and stratigraphical characteristics, the succession has been divided into nine lithostratigraphic units, mainly reflecting regressive and transgressive intervals of larger scale. During the latest Cenomanian and Early Turonian, hemipelagic limestones were deposited on top of shallow-marine lagoon and peritidal Upper Cenomanian deposits indicating relative sea-level rise. Subsequently, the deeper marine depositional setting was gradually filled by clinoform bioclastic sand bodies overlain by peritidal and shallow-marine low-energy mainly lagoonal lithofacies. Similar lithofacies of predominately inner ramp/shelf depositional settings prevail over the upper part (i.e., Coniacian to Santonian) of the succession. In the area, the Upper Cetaceous carbonate rocks are separated from the overlying Lower Eocene (Upper Paleocene?) carbonate sequence by regional unconformity denoted by distinct paleokarstic features. On the Adriatic Carbonate Platform the deeper marine carbonate setting, developed at the Cenomanian/Turonian boundary, is usually correlated with OAE2 and related eustatic sea-level rise. Similarly, subsequent reestablished shallow-marine conditions are related to Late Turonian long- and short-term sea-level fall. However, we are suggesting that deeper marine deposits were deposited in a tectonically induced intraplatform basin formed simultaneously with the uplift of the northern and northeastern marginal parts of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform.  相似文献

The Jahrum Formation was deposited in the foreland basin in southwest Iran (Zagros Basin). The Zagros mountain belt of Iran, a part of the Alpine–Himalayan system, extends from the NW Iranian border through to SW Iran, up to the strait of Hormuz. The various facies of the Jahrum Formation were deposited in four main genetically related depositional environments, including: tidal flat, lagoon, shoal and open marine. These are represented by 14 microfacies. The Jahrum Formation represents sedimentation on a carbonate ramp. Tidal flat facies are represented by fenestral fabric, stromatolitic boundstone and thin-bedded planes. Carbonate deposition in a shallow marine lagoon was characterised by wacke–packstone, dominated by various taxa of imperforate foraminifer. The shoals are made up of medium- to coarse-grained skeletal and peloidal grainstone. This facies was deposited predominantly in an active high energy wave and current regime, and grades basinward into middle ramps facies are represented by wackestones–packstones with a diverse assemblage of echinoderm and large benthic foraminifers with perforate wall. Outer ramp facies consist of alternating marl and limestones rich in pelagic foraminifera. There is no evidence for resedimentation processes in this facies belt. The sequence stratigraphy study has led to recognition of three third-order depositional sequences.  相似文献

Variability of the stable isotopic (δ13C and δ18O) and trace element (Mg, Sr, Fe, and Mn) content from dinosaur eggshells from the Provence Basin has been addressed by considering the stratigraphic distribution of the eggshells, the palaeoenvironments, and the chemical content of associated sediments. Preferentially, in situ eggshells were analysed. Samples were collected from two sections, one belonging to the floodplain (Roques Hautes) and the other to the channel belt (Rousset-Bréguières), as determined from sedimentological criteria. On a regional scale, this combined analysis provided new insights into palaeohydrology, vegetation cover and dinosaur behaviour. Different sources of drinking water were identified: (1) the main stream waters with significant salinity levels, (2) lateral feeders with water composition close to that of precipitation. Water composition is reflected in the eggshell trace element contents: a high Sr content for the eggshells from the channel belt (mean 1200 ppm) contrasting with the very low values for the floodplain (mean 250 ppm). During the first part of the Maastrichtian, evaporation rates were quite significant, as seen from the 1.5‰ difference between the eggshell δ18O (drinking water) and the palaeosol carbonate nodules (precipitation). This contrast diminished and became nearly insignificant in the second half of the Maastrichtian. Vegetation was composed of C3 plants and two ecosystems are reconstructed: a riparian forest extending along the channel belt and open vegetation in the floodplain. The contrasted isotopic and trace element content of the eggshells was a crucial factor in identifying animal migration from one site to another. Migration was quite limited, suggesting that the animals settled for some time at the places where they laid their eggs. Intraspecific variations among modern birds are well correlated with the environment and may be greater than interspecies variations, which limits the potential of geochemical analysis to characterise dinosaur species.  相似文献

The contents of Cd, Pb, Cu, Mn, Fe, and Sr were determined in bottom sediment and fish in Piaseczno lake (inundated opencast sulphur mine, southern Poland) from April 2001 to January 2002. To determine the mobility and availability of these elements in the 0–5 cm layer of the sediment, a 6-step sequential extraction procedure was applied. Generally, in the sediment the amounts of Cd were low, of Pb and Cu were elevated, but of Mn, Fe, and Sr were very high. Risk of contamination of water by Sr and Mn estimated using individual contamination factor was much higher than by Cd, Pb, Cu and Fe. A relationship was found between the contents of the metals in some fish tissues and their trophic habits. According to bioconcentration factor Sr and Mn, which posed the highest risks to water contamination were concentrated to a greatest degree in benthivorous fish.  相似文献

We examined changes in the biogeochemistry of trace metals following a commercial whole-tree harvest (WTH) at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire. Within 6 months after completion of the WTH, maximum streamwater concentrations of Ni, Cd, Ba, Sr, Mn, Zn and Fe increased two- to nine-fold. Streamwater concentration of Cu remained unchanged after harvest. Streamwater pH decreased from 5.2 to 4.5 after the harvest, and correlated strongly with trace metal concentrations except for Fe. The decrease in pH apparently resulted from increased nitrogen mineralization and nitrification following harvest. All streamwater metal concentrations (except Mn and Fe) in the disturbed watershed increased prior to the decrease in streamwater pH, suggesting that the loss of readily exchangeable metals, not increased mineral dissolution, was responsible for the initial increase in streamwater trace metal concentrations. In contrast, streamwater Mn concentrations did not increase until streamwater pH dropped to 4.5, due in part to increased mineral dissolution. Although pH related strongly to trace metal concentrations in the harvested watershed, it did not account for much of the variation in metal concentrations in the reference (W6) watershed. Annual flux of trace metals increased two- to eight-fold following WTH. Annual losses of Mn and Sr were 14% and 12%respectively of the forest floor pool for each element, and less than 10% of forest floor pools for all other elements. In order to ascertain possible correlation between alterations in trace elemental profile and the progression or regression of two most common potentially malignant disorders affecting oral cavity, namely oral submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia, blood from 60 patients from each group of patients as well from 30 healthy individuals was analyzed for elemental profiling employing EDXRF technique. Out of the 16 detected elements (K, Si, Ca, V, Cr, Ni, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, Co, and Pb), Mn, Fe, Zn, Br, and Co showed remarkable alteration in their profile in both leukoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis patients with respect to the normal healthy individuals. While Zn, Br, and Fe reflected similar changes--showing gross depletion in both the diseased groups, Mn and Co depicted inverse pattern of alterations in their concentrations in the two types of precancerous disorders when compared to the control subjects.  相似文献

The Upper Jurassic Mozduran Formation at Baghak section, Kopet-Dagh area northeast Iran, characterized by multiple units of carbonates and evaporates intercalated with siliciclastic deposits, yielded benthic foraminifera, calcareous algae, and crustacean coprolites, including Alveosepta jaccardi, Charentia aff. nana, Deloffrella quercifoliipora, Marinella cf. lugeoni, Favreina, and Solenopora sp. The almost consistent occurrence of Alveosepta jaccardi in the studied section, i.e., the Alveosepta jaccardi Zone, indicates late Oxfordian to the Kimmeridgian in age. Facies analysis of the formation reveals depositional settings of a peritidal zone, a lagoon, and a high-energy shoal of a carbonate ramp. Terrigenous and evaporites are found in eastern parts of Kopet-Dagh, representing a more proximal sedimentary environment. These siliciclastic inputs are associated with tectonic events during Oxfordian to Tithonian in the region.  相似文献
