Influence of nest-floor slope on the nest choice of laying hens   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Group nests in alternative housing systems for laying hens primarily fulfil the hen's needs for seclusion and protection. Commercial nests used in Switzerland are built according to the provisions of the Swiss Animal Welfare Legislation. However, nest types can differ in aspects, such as floor slope, that could have an impact on egg-laying behaviour. Floor slope has to be designed so that eggs roll away without breaking and so that hens feel comfortable laying their eggs. In commercial nests, the slope is usually between 12% and 18%. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of floor slope on the hen's nest preference and laying behaviour. We predicted that hens would prefer nests with a lower sloped floor for evolutionary reasons and for reasons related to comfort.Eight pens, each with 17-18 white laying hens (LSL), were equipped with two roll-away nests (0.54 m2) having different floor slopes (12% and 18%). Eggs were collected each day (from approximately 20 weeks of age until 28 weeks of age); the number of eggs in each nest and on the floor of the pens was recorded. Behaviour inside the nest was filmed for two consecutive days during the main egg-laying time from the second hour to the fifth hour (4 h) after lights came on in week 27/28. The following data were recorded: number of hens in each nest, the nest visits/egg number ratio, the number of sitting events, the body alignment of hens sitting in the nest and the number and duration of nest visits. Data were analysed with a repeated-measures ANOVA. There was no difference between the numbers of eggs in the two nests, but more hens were counted in nests with a 12% slope (p = 0.027). The ratio between the number of nest visits and number of eggs did not differ significantly between the nests. However, we counted more sitting events in the nest with 12% slope (p = 0.007). The percentage of body alignment towards the back (p = 0.044) and towards the front (p = 0.028) of the nest differed between the nests. Furthermore, for nest visits lasting between 10 and 90 min, we found significant differences in the total number of nest visits (p = 0.039). For visits in this range of duration, we also found significant differences for nest visits with sitting (p = 0.025) and for the number of nest visits with egg laying (p = 0.049). All of these differences favoured the 12% nest.Both nests were generally accepted by the hens. However, because of the higher number of hens counted in the 12% nest and the higher amounts of nest visits and sitting events found in these nests, we recommend to use nests with a floor slope of 12% rather than 18%.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted in conscious dogs to determine the relationships between postural position, arterial pressure, and renal sympathetic nerve activity. Observations of the changes in arterial pressure and renal nerve activity were made when animals spontaneously changed postural position from lying to sitting, sitting to standing, standing to sitting, and sitting to lying. Rising to sit from lying down increased arterial pressure from 109 +/- 5 to 125 +/- 3 mm Hg and increased renal nerve activity by 96 +/- 58 microV/sec (61% of control). Movement from the sitting to standing position decreased renal nerve activity by 90 +/- 39 microV/sec (48% of control) without changing mean arterial pressure. Sitting down from standing also did not change arterial pressure, whereas renal nerve activity increased by 56 +/- 17 microV/sec (33% of control). Returning to the lying position (from sitting) decreased arterial pressure, and this hypotension was associated with significant reductions in renal nerve activity. These results indicate that nonuniform changes in sympathetic outflow from the central nervous system must occur to various vascular beds during changes in postural position of conscious dogs. Thus, renal sympathetic outflow may or may not reflect changes in nerve traffic which contribute to alterations in arterial pressure.  相似文献

The postural reactions induced in man by bilateral vibration of the tibial muscles under various conditions were investigated: sitting with feet not in contact with support; sitting in an unstable position on a narrow seat; sitting with feet in contact with different types of support (suspended platform, turntable, etc.); standing with an asymmetrical load applied to the body. It was demonstrated that local vibration of the tibial muscles can induce not only activation of the vibrated muscle or of its antagonist (local effects), but excitation of the extensors and flexors of the knee joint (nonlocal effects) or remote muscle groups participating in the realization of various postural synergies. The specific activation of the muscles is determined by a number of factors, among which the most important are the reciprocal position of the members of the body and the interaction of the feet with the support. Campylobacter isolated from feces and from the oviduct of six broiler breeder hens were genotyped by using flaA SVR DNA sequence analyses. A diversity of genotypes was observed among fecal and oviduct isolates. Comparison of isolates from the oviducts of individual hens revealed variable results. In three cases (hen 2, hen 3, and hen 6), analyses indicated that isolates from all regions of the individual hen's reproductive tract were closely related; isolates from hen 1 and hen 4 were diverse. Comparison of the Campylobacter isolates between hens revealed that in two cases, hens 1 and 3 and hens 4 and 6, certain isolates possessed identical flaA SVR sequence types. Comparisons of Campylobacter isolates recovered from a distinct region of the oviduct were found to have increased diversity as sampling progressed down the oviduct. This study further demonstrates that Campylobacter is present within the reproductive tract of breeder hens and that this presence may enable vertical transmission of Campylobacter from the breeder hen to the broiler offspring.  相似文献

Impaired sensory, motor and central processing systems combining with biomechanical changes are risk of fall factors in the elderly population. The aim of this study was to assess the auto-adaptation and the regulation of the dynamic control of equilibrium in age-related adaptive strategies, by using a seated position on a seesaw. 15 young adults and 12 healthy middle-aged adults were asked to actively maintain a sitting posture as stable as possible during 12.8 s, on a 1-degree of freedom seesaw (auto-stabilization paradigm), with and without vision. The seesaw was placed in order to allow roll or pitch oscillations. We determine length and surfaces CoP shifts, mean positions and variability, a Postural Performance Index (PI) and a Strategy Organization Ratio (SOR). Our results shows that adopted strategies are plane-dependant during auto-stabilization (parallel and perpendicular axes control is impacted) and age-dependant. PIx during roll seated auto-stabilization tasks appears as the most relevant parameter of aged-related instability. The visual effect, during pitch auto-stabilization, characterizes the postural sensory-motor human behavior. The quantitative and qualitative postural assessment, thanks to seated auto-stabilization task, need to be promoted for long-term health care and probably for the rehabilitation of various disorders.  相似文献

Capillary circulation is delicately regulated by microvascular constriction mechanisms, thereby controlling capillary perfusion and transmural pressure. The influence of posture on capillary flow has been investigated in both diseased and healthy people. However, its influence on capillary pressure has rarely been investigated. We measured capillary pressures in the supine and sitting positions in the hallux of healthy volunteers. The capillaries in the eponychium of the hallux were punctured by using a micropipette connected to a micropressure system (900A, WPI). Also, peripheral arterial and venous pressures were measured in both positions. The rise in systolic capillary pressure from supine to sitting position (32 mmHg; from 39 to 71 mmHg, respectively) was significantly (P < 0.001) smaller than the rise in systolic arterial toe pressure (57 mmHg, from 87 to 144 mmHg, respectively) and venous pressure (41 mmHg, from 26 mmHg to 67 mmHg, respectively). This study shows that the postural rise in precapillary arteriolar pressure is not completely transmitted to the capillaries, probably because of activation of peripheral vasoconstriction mechanisms.  相似文献

The study was aimed at a deeper understanding of the interaction between the system of vertical posture control and the system of voluntary movement control based on the analysis of postural muscle activity components resulting from the action of the former or the latter system. For this purpose, a quick arm raise was performed in the standing and sitting positions with body fixation at different levels, when the task of maintaining a vertical posture was simplified or completely eliminated. Under these conditions, the muscle activity associated with posture control was supposed to change, while the activity of muscles raising the arm was supposed to remain invariable. The results showed that the simplification of the posture control resulted in a decrease or elimination of anticipatory changes in the activity of some muscles. However, most of the muscle activity variations were retained even in the sitting position, and these variations appeared simultaneously with the activity of muscles raising the arm. The so-called “anticipatory postural activity” during an arm raise in a normal standing position is supposed to consist of two components: an initial component reflecting the work of the posture control system and a later component reflecting the work of the movement control system. It is suggested that the planning of muscle activity and exchange of information between these two systems take place only before the beginning of the movement; after that, they act independently and in parallel.  相似文献

The question of whether attributes of the combs of laying hens have any consistent relationship with dominance behaviour has yet to be answered unequivocally. This study sought to address this by investigating whether a relationship existed between the competitive ability of hens within stable groups and the size or colour of their combs. Pullets (n = 120, Hy-line® Variety Brown) were allocated randomly to eight groups of 15 hens for 32 weeks. Over this period the length and height of each hen's comb was measured regularly to estimate the total comb area and hens were weighed. In weeks 3-10 the aggressive interactions between hens in each group were observed to calculate a behavioural dominance score (David's score) for each hen. This score was based on the outcome of agonistic interactions with other group members; and accounts for the relative strengths of all opponents. Thus dominance scores reflected the competitive ability of hens from their overall within-group fighting success. The luminance, purity and dominant wavelength of the colour of each hen's comb was measured in week 27 using a telespectroradiometer. Hens with higher dominance scores had larger combs than those with lower dominance scores (gradient of slope = 0.008 ± 0.002, P < 0.001); this relationship was consistent across the experiment. There was no association between body weight and dominance score but there was a significant inverse relationship between dominance score and the dominant wavelength of the comb (gradient of slope = −0.067 ± 0.023, P < 0.01). This indicated that hens with combs perceived by humans as more yellow-red than pure red were generally more successful competitors. Further research is required to ascertain whether or not hens utilise this information on comb size and the underexplored area of comb colour to assess the competitive ability of their opponents.  相似文献

A computer simulation model was developed to compare the result of cervical traction therapy in inclined and sitting traction positions. The behavior of the model was shown to match with the intervertebral changes in the upper and lower spine from the data of a radiographic experiment. Both the results of the experiment and the simulation also showed that in the inclined position, the amount of posterior separations in the upper cervical spine remains constant regardless of traction angle, while the posterior separations at lower cervical spine increases along with traction angles. Using the simulation model, parametric studies were conducted to investigate the intervertebral space changes in response to different traction angles in the inclined and sitting positions. When using the sitting position, the subject’s hip joint stiffness was shown to cause larger variations in the intervertebral space than in the inclined position. In addition, variations in the tension/compression stiffness was shown to cause the largest changes in the resulting separations in both positions but the variations in anterior space changes were larger in the sitting position. Our study suggests that the inclined position is less sensitive to variations in the subject's body parameters and is able to provide a more reliable and predictable traction result than the sitting position.  相似文献

Summary Ehrlich ascites tumour cells were irradiated with negative pions at different positions in the plateau and the peak of the depth absorbed dose curve. Dose-survival curves for immediate testing of the viability of the cells are given and are compared with other types of radiations in use for therapy. Deficits of postural control and perceptions of verticality are disabling problems observed in stroke patients that have been recently correlated to each other. However, there is no evidence in the literature confirming this relationship with quantitative posturography analysis. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were to analyze the relationship between Subjective Postural Vertical (SPV) and Haptic Vertical (HV) with posturography and functionality in stroke patients. We included 45 stroke patients. The study protocol was composed by clinical interview, evaluation of SPV and HV in roll and pitch planes and posturography. Posturography was measured in the sitting and standing positions under the conditions: eyes open, stable surface (EOSS); eyes closed, stable surface (ECSS); eyes open, unstable surface (EOUS); and eyes closed, unstable surface (ECUS). The median PV in roll plane was 0.34° (-1.44° to 2.54°) and in pitch plane 0.36° (-2.72° to 2.45°). The median of HV in roll and pitch planes were -0.94° (-5.86° to 3.84°) and 3.56° (-0.68° to 8.36°), respectively. SPV in the roll plane was correlated with all posturagraphy parameters in sitting position in all conditions (r = 0.35 to 0.47; p < 0.006). There were moderate correlations with the verticality perceptions and all the functional scales. Linear regression model showed association between speed and SPV in the roll plane in the condition EOSS (R2 of 0.37; p = 0.005), in the condition ECSS (R2 of 0.13; p = 0.04) and in the condition EOUS (R2 of 0.22; p = 0.03). These results suggest that verticality perception is a relevant component of postural control and should be systematically evaluated, particularly in patients with abnormal postural control.  相似文献

Six healthy male subjects performed a 3-min supramaximal test in four different cycling positions: two with different trunk angles and two with different saddle-tube angles. Maximal power output and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were measured. Maximal power output was significantly higher in a standard sitting (SS, 381 W, SD 49) upright position compared to all other positions: standard racing (SR, 364 W, SD 49), recumbent backwards (RB, 355 W, SD 44) and recumbent forwards (RF, 341 W, SD 54). Although VO2max was also highest in SS (4.31 l.min-1, SD 0.5) upright position, the differences in VO2max were not significant (SR, 4.2 l.min-1, SD 0.53; RB, 4.17 l.min-1, SD 0.58; RF, 4.11 l.min-1, SD 0.66). It is concluded that (supra)maximal tests on a cycle ergometer should be performed in a sitting upright position and not in a racing position. In some cases when cycling on the road, higher speeds can be attained when sitting upright. This is especially true when cycling uphill when high power must be generated to overcome gravity but the road speed, and hence the power required to overcome air resistance, is relatively low.  相似文献

Seven normal awake males were studied to define the mechanisms and impact of lung volume on the hypoxemia occurring during apnea. During repeated 30-s voluntary breath holding, these subjects were studied at different lung volumes, during various respiratory maneuvers, and in the sitting and supine body positions. Analysis of expired gases and arterial O2 saturation during these repeated breath holdings yielded the following conclusions. Apnea of 30-s duration at low lung volumes is accompanied by severe arterial O2 desaturation in normal awake subjects. Initial lung volume is the most important determinant of hypoxemia during apnea. The hypoxemia of apnea at most lung volumes can be explained by simple alveolar hypoventilation in a uniform lung. The lung does not behave as a single-compartment model at lung volumes at which dependent airways are susceptible to closure.  相似文献

The effect of postprandial body posture on digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrate were examined through breath hydrogen test on 6 female subjects. During the experiment, the participants either sat on a chair or lay on their backs for the first 4 hr (from 08:00 to 12:00) after eating the test breakfast meal. They then remained sedentary on a sofa for 6 hr (12:00 to 18:00). Participants' end alveolar breath samples were collected for 10 hr (every 15 min from 08:00 to 12:30, and then every 30 min until 18:00). The experiment was conducted on two consecutive days using a randomized, crossover study design. The results demonstrated that in the supine position orocecal transit time of the test meal was significantly slower than in the sitting position (260 +/- 21 min and 238 +/- 20 min, respectively, p < 0.01). In addition, afternoon breath hydrogen excretion due to a partial malabsorption of dietary carbohydrate and its fermentation in the colon was significantly larger in the sitting position (144.0 +/- 24.1 ppm.hr) than in the supine position (110.0 +/- 26.1 ppm.hr, p < 0.05). These results support the hypothesis that there was a marked effect of postprandial body posture on the function of the digestive system. The present findings suggest that the postprandial supine position is preferable to the sitting position for the digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrate.  相似文献

A surface EMG diagnostic protocol was developed to assess the neuromuscular/postural contributions to pain states. The EMG activity of the right and left aspects of 11 muscle groups were monitored while the patient was in the sitting and standing positions. The diagnostic protocol was evaluated by comparing the patterns of EMG activity in four diagnostic groups: headache only, neck/shoulder/upper back pain only, low back pain only, and mixed pain states. The results suggest that (1) bilateral levels of EMG activity in the frontalis and masseter groups are of primary importance for the headache patients, (2) the discrepancy between the right and left EMG activity in the lumbar and cervical paraspinal muscle groups are of primary importance for low back pain patients, (3) position (sit/stand) may provide important diagnostic information, and (4) the data appear to support the notion of a postural disturbance as a contributing factor in low back pain.  相似文献

A Ser162/Gly162 polymorphism in Japanese quail ovomucoid   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Japanese quail ovomucoid exists in two polymorphic forms. One has serine, the other glycine at position 162. The tryptic peptide corresponding to positions 160 to 164 was purified from ovomucoids isolated from egg whites of eggs laid by 11 different hens and subjected to amino acid analysis. The quantitative distribution of serine and glycine in this pentapeptide is consistent with the interpretation that the ovomucoid gene exists in two codominant allelic forms at one locus. Even though the gene product is apparently expressed only in the female, these results indicate that the ovomucoid structural gene is transmitted as a simple Mendelian character which is neither sex-linked nor shows dominance. Intact third domains (positions 131 to 186) isolated from the two allelic forms of ovomucoid interact with bovine beta-trypsin in a similar but not identical manner; the complex with the glycine form dissociates more rapidly. Evidence is presented which suggests that glycine is the ancestral residue at position 162; yet, the serine form is the more frequent phenotype.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the multiple effects of respiration on cardiovascular variability in different postures, by analyzing respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and respiratory-related blood pressure (BP) variations for systolic BP (SBP), diastolic BP (DBP), and pulse pressure (PP) in the respiratory-phase domain. The measurements were conducted for 420 s on healthy humans in the sitting and standing positions, while the subjects were continuously monitored for heart rate and BP variability and instantaneous lung volume. The waveforms of RSA and respiratory-related BP variations were extracted as a function of the respiratory phase. In the standing position, the waveforms of the BP variations for SBP, DBP, and PP show their maxima at around the end of expiration (pi rad) and the minima at around the end of inspiration (2 pi rad), while the waveform of RSA is delayed by approximately 0.35 pi rad compared with the BP waveforms. On the other hand, in the sitting position, the phase of the DBP waveform (1.69 pi rad) greatly and significantly (P < 0.01) differs from that in the standing position (1.20 pi rad). Also, the phase of PP is delayed and that of RSA is advanced in the sitting position (P < 0.01). In particular, the phase shift of the DBP waveform is sufficiently large to alter whole hemodynamic fluctuations, affecting the amplitudes of SBP and PP variations. We conclude that the postural change associated with an altered autonomic balance affects not only the amplitude of RSA, but also the phases of RSA and BP variations in a complicated manner, and the respiratory-phase domain analysis used in this study is useful for elucidating the dynamic mechanisms of RSA.  相似文献

目的:探讨不同体位对严重肥胖者血氧饱和度的影响。方法:16名平均体重指数(BMI)为40±5肥胖者和16名年龄匹配的正常体重者被纳入研究。分别在不同体外下(坐位、仰卧位、侧卧位)对所有参与者进行动脉血气监测。结果:肥胖者于坐位时动脉Pa O_2为75±4 mm Hg,Pa CO_2为37±3 mm Hg;仰卧位时动脉Pa O_2为62±5 mm Hg,Pa CO_2为47±5 mm Hg;侧卧位时Pa O_2为73±3 mm Hg,Pa CO_2为39±2 mm Hg;而正常体重者无明显变化。结论:严重肥胖者于平卧位时更容易出现低氧及高碳酸血症。  相似文献

Distributions of pulmonary blood flow per unit lung volume were measured with subjects in the prone, supine, and sitting positions by means of radionuclide-computed tomography of intravenously administered 99mTc-labeled macroaggregates of human serum albumin. The blood flow was greater in the direction of gravity in all 31 subjects except one with severe mitral valve stenosis. With the subject in a sitting position, four different types of distribution were distinguished. One type had a three-zonal blood flow distribution as previously reported by West and co-workers (J. Appl. Physiol. 19: 713-724, 1964). Pulmonary arterial pressure and venous pressure estimated from this model showed reasonable agreement with pulmonary arterial pressure and capillary wedge pressure measured by Swan-Ganz catheter in 17 supine patients and in 2 sitting patients. The method makes possible noninvasive assessment of pulmonary vascular pressures.  相似文献
