Alkaloids in the venom of Messor ants

Tobacco alkaloids of the anabasine type have been found or confirmed in the venom of five species of arid-dwelling Messor ants. They are frequently accompanied by alkylpyrazines. Messor mediorubra contains four alkaloids, with anabasine the major component and also minor pyrazines. Anabasine was found alone in the venom of Messor semirufus and confirmed in Messor ebeninus. Messor rugosus from Tel Aviv contained a mixture of alkaloids and pyrazines, but those from Ein Yahav contained 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine, some 2-phenylethylamine, and N-ethylidene 2-phenylethylamine. Messor arenarius is confirmed as having a complex but variable mixture of alkaloids and pyrazines.     

Alkaloids of Lycopodium magellanicum

Six alkaloids have been isolated from Lycopodium magellanicum. These include the known alkaloids lycopodine, acetyldihydrolycopodine, lycodine, N-methyllycodine, acetylfawcettine and a new alkaloid, 5-dehydro-magellanine. The chemical correlation of magellanine and paniculatine and the establishment of their absolute configuration are described.     

Alcaloïdes d'Alstonia quaternata

Eleven alkaloids have been isolated from Alstonia quaternata. Three of them, namely 11-methoxy-epi-3α-yohimbine, 10,11-dimethoxy-picrinine designated quaternine, and 19,20-epoxy-N_(a)-methyl, desacetyl, desformo, 2βH-dihydroakuammiline designated quaternoxine, are new alkaloids.     

Alcaloides des feuilles du Crioceras dipladeniiflorus

Three alkaloids have been isolated from leaves of Crioceras dipladeniiflorus. Two of them, 12-methoxy-voaphylline and criophylline are new and their structures have been determined. The third has been identified as andrangine an alkaloid isolated recently from another Apocynaceae Craspidospermum verticillatum.     

New alkaloids from Strychnos icaja

The alkaloids of Strychnos icaja (Loganiaceae) have been studied. An extract from Zaire leaf material yielded nine alkaloids, comprising novacine, the new base 21,22-α-epoxy-4,14-dihydroxy-3-methoxy-N-methyl-sec.-pseudostrychnine, and seven others of known structure previously obtained from the plant. Cameroun leaf material gave five alkaloids, of which one, 21,22-α-epoxy-3,4-dimethoxy-N-methyl-sec.-pseudostrychnine, is new. Fruits from Gabon afforded eight alkaloids; two of them are new and are formulated as 21,22-α-epoxy-4-methoxy-N-methyl-sec.-pseudostrychnine and the corresponding 14-hydroxy derivative.     

Minor indole alkaloids of Alstonia macrophylla

Three indole alkaloids have been isolated from Alstonia macrophylla Wall. Two of these have been identified as affinisine (I) and picrinine (II). The third, a new base designated picralstonine, has been shown to possess structure (III).

Five monomeric and seven quasi-dimeric indole alkaloids were isolated from the leaves of Cinchona ledgeriana, five are known; the structures of two novel quasi-dimeric alkaloids have been elucidated by chemical correlation.     

Alkaloids of Sri Lankan Strychnos nux-vomica

Twenty-two identified alkaloids have been isolated from the root bark and leaves of a Sri Lankan Strychnos species supplied as S. nux-vomica. T     

GC/MS Examination of four Lycopodium species for alkaloid content

A GC/MS examination of extracts of Lycopodium clavatum var. borbonicum and L. deuterodensum revealed alkaloids which had not been previously observed in these species. New alkaloids have been found in L. australianum and in L. fastigiatum, two species which had not been investigated before.     

Alcaloïdes minoritaires de Capuronetta elegans (Apocynaceae)

Two monomeric and three dimeric new indole alkaloids derived from cleavamine have been isolated from the leaves and stem barks of Capuronetta elegans. Structural determination was made by physical and chemical correlations with the known major alkaloids of the plants.     

New erythrina alkaloids of Cocculus laurifolia

Four abnormal Erythrina alkaloids have been isolated from the leaves of Cocculus laurifolia. Of these, two new bases, isococculidine and coccoline, have been assigned the structures (3S,5S)-3,15-dimethoxyerythrin-1-ene and (3R,5S)-15-hydroxy-3-methoxyerythrin-1-en-8-one respectively.     

Quinoline and indolopyridoquinazoline alkaloids from Vepris louisii

The structures of two new 2-quinolone alkaloids from the stem bark of Vepris louisii, N-methylpreskimmianine [7,8 - dimethoxy - 3 - (3 - methylbut - 2 - enyl) - 1 - methyl - 2 - quinolone] and veprisine (7,8 - dimethoxy - N - methylflindersine) have been deduced from their spectral data and confirmed by partial synthesis from known compounds. Two minor indolopyridoquinazoline alkaloids were also isolated and identified as the already known 1-hydroxyrutaecarpine and the hitherto unknown 7,8-dehydro derivative of 1-hydroxyrutaecarpine.     

Alkaloids of Aconitum ferox

From the roots of Aconitum ferox four alkaloids have been isolated. Pseudaconitine is the major constituent and the other three minor alkaloids are identified as bikhaconitine, veratroyl pseudaconine and diacetyl pseudaconitine. Veratroyl pseudaconine and diacetyl pseudaconitine have not been previously found in nature.     

Alkaloid distribution in some new world Lupinus species

Alkaloidal profiles of 21 Lupinus species indigenous to North and South America have been determined. Nineteen quinolizidine alkaloids were identified, including aphyllidine and N-methylcytisine, which have not previously been found in the genus. Two dipiperidine alkaloids were also detected. The pattern of alkaloidal distribution is related to a taxonomic classification of the genus.     

Alcaloides du Camoensia maxima

Three alkaloids, leontidine, camoensine and camoensidine, the two latter being new, have been extracted from Camoensia maxima. A partial synthesis     

Two new diterpene-based alkaloids from Icacina guesfeldtii

From Icacina guesfeldtii (leaves and roots), two new diterpene-based alkaloids have been isolated and identified as icaceine (2) and De-N-methylicaceine (3). Icacine (1) occurred both in the leaves and roots. Structure determination was performed by spectroscopic and chemical methods. As icacine (1), these two bases are the first alkaloids with a pimarane skeleton isolated from plants.     

Aporphine alkaloids of annona squamosa

The aporphine alkaloids anonaine, roemerine, norcorydine, corydine, norisocorydine, isocorydine and glaucine have been isolated from Annona squamosa.     

Incorporation of cinnamic acid-2-[14C] into tylophorine

Tylophora indica plants have been shown to contain phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids of the tylophorine type. Cinnamic acid-[2-¹⁴C]was incorporated efficiently into these alkaloids supporting the hypothesis that ring A and C-10 and C-6$\text{\$}\text{?}$of tylophorine are derived from phenylalanine.     

Alkaloids of Thermopsis Lupinoides

Ammodendrine, together with seven other known lupin alkaloids, was isolated from Thermopsis lupinoides. (+)-Lupanine (+)-17-oxolupanine occurred together with (?)anagyrine, (?)-baptifoline, (?)-cytisine, (?)-N-methylcytisine (?)N-formylcytisine. These alkaloids have the opposite stereochemistry to that of (+)-lupanine and (+)-17-oxolupanine. The distribution of alkaloids in fresh flowers, leaves, stems roots of this plant was also examined.     

CINQ alcaloides nouveaux de Strychnos henningsii

Five new alkaloids have been isolated from the leaves and stems of Strychnos henningsii: tsilanimbine, N_a-desacetyl-17-O-acetyl-18-hydroxyisoretuline, 18-hydroxyisoretuline, N_a-desacetylisoretuline and N_a-desacetyl-18-hydroxyisoretuline. The two latter, unknown as natural products, have already been obtained by degradation of strychnine.
