The formation of the micropyle in the oocytes of a gobiid fish O. acutipennis is described. In O. acutipennis the micropyle is formed at the summit of a cone termed here as the “micropylar cone”. A single follicular cell takes part in the formation of the micropyle while the two cells on either side seems to play a supporting role in the process.  相似文献

Synopsis Croilia mossambica, a burrowing goby endemic to the coastal lakes of south east Africa occurs from L. Poelela (salinity 8%.) to L. Sibaya (freshwater). Since these lakes are isolated from one another its distribution is discontinuous. It is not found in estuaries or the sea. In L. Sibaya C. mossambica is present on sheltered sides from a depth of 1 m to about 16 m. On exposed shores it is not found at less than 3.5 m depth. It is restricted to sandy, quiet water areas and is unable to form burrows where the substrate is disturbed by water movement, is muddy or consists of sand with a particle diameter greater than 0.5 mm. The maximum depth at which it lives is probably determined by light penetration since it is dependent on sight for prey capture. The food consists of slow moving benthic invertebrates such as chironomid larvae, gastropods, bivalves and amphipods. The relative importance of each depends upon its abundance. C. mossambica is a summer breeder with a protracted spawning season. The sticky eggs measure 0.7–0.8 mm when laid. Tolerance experiments show that it is euryhaline and can survive in seawater of 35%. and that its upper temperature limit is between 32 and 35°C. Temperatures in shallow waters of lakes and estuaries of the region frequently exceed 35°C. Thus its local distribution may be limited by temperature. Its lack of tolerance to high temperatures, to marked water movements and its ability to live in seawater indicates that C. mossambica is suited to life in the sea rather than in estuaries. It is suggested that it was present in quiet areas of the sea, such as lagoons, and that it invaded the coastal lakes which were formed as the estuaries and river valleys were inundated during the Pleistocene marine transgression. C. mossambica cannot tolerate estuarine conditions and with the present absence of quiet water in the sea off the south east African coast the species is now confined to deep coastal lakes.Note  相似文献

Loss of substrate, pyruvate, a limitation for enzymatic batch production of (R)-phenylacetylcarbinol (PAC), resulted from two phenomena: temperature dependent non-enzymatic concentration decrease due to the cofactor Mg2+ and formation of by-products, acetaldehyde and acetoin, by pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC). In the absence of enzyme, pyruvate stabilization was achieved by lowering the Mg2+ concentration from 20 to 0.5 mM. With 0.5 mM Mg2+ Rhizopus javanicus and Candida utilis PDC produced similar levels of PAC (49 and 51 g l–1, respectively) in 21 h at 6 °C; however C. utilis PDC formed less by-product from pyruvate and was more stable during biotransformation. The process enhancements regarding Mg2+ concentration and source of PDC resulted in an increase of molar yield (PAC/consumed pyruvate) from 59% (R. javanicus PDC, 20 mM Mg2+) to 74% (R. javanicus PDC, 0.5 mM Mg2+) to 89% (C. utilis PDC, 0.5 mM Mg2+).  相似文献

In contrast to a majority of angiosperms showing porogamous fertilization, several fagalean families such as Betulaceae and Casuarinaceae are known to show chalazogamy, where fertilization is effected by a pollen tube passing through the chalaza instead of the micropyle. Our developmental study of pollen-tube growth in pistils of Myrica rubra (Myricaceae, Fagales) further shows that pollen tubes reached the nucellus before the micropyle is formed by the integument. Since fertilized ovules appeared as if the pollen tube had passed through the micropyle for fertilization, we propose the new term `pseudoporogamy' to this mode. By mapping diverse modes of fertilization, dependent or independent of the micropyle, onto a phylogenetic tree of Fagales, it appears that fertilization mode evolved from porogamy to chalazogamy and then further from chalazogamy to pseudoporogamy. Possible reasons for the evolution of fertilization modes independent of the micropyle in Fagales are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The hydrolysis by 1,3-specific lipases (Humicola lanuginosa, Mucor miehei, Rhizopus delemar andRhizopus javanicus) of the highly symmetric, high molecular weight triglycerides fromCrambe abyssinica (Crambe) seed oil is studied in an AOT-stabilized microemulsion system. Enzyme kinetic data shows that, of the lipases studied,Rhizopus javanicus lipases exerts the highest hydrolytic activity towards this new seed oil.  相似文献

At oxygen concentrations below air saturation, R.Q. and A.Q. values of Tilapia mossambica increase with decrease in ambient oxygen at 30 and 35°C, indicating an increase in anaerobic metabolism and protein utilization. The recovery metabolism indicates that T. mossambica accumulates an oxygen debt at 30°C, which was not obvious at 35°C. The post-hypoxic oxygen consumption at 30°C is quite pronounced and the fish repays almost wholly the oxygen debt accumulated. At 30°C, R.Q. and A.Q. reach prehypoxic level immediately after exposure to high oxygenated water. In contrast to this, during recovery the first high R.Q. which is higher than unity and subsequent low R.Qs., almost as low as 0.5, suggest respectively that, anaerobic energy utilization persists and carbon dioxide is retained. The differences in the recovery metabolism of T. mossambica at the two temperatures may be due to changes in metabolism and pathways due to temperature. The recovery metabolism of T. mossambica suggests that energy derived anaerobically could proceed through other pathways than the conventional glycolytic way. When fed rations ranging from 4 to 29 mg (dry)Spirogyra maxima/g live fish/day, absorption efficiency ofTilapia mossambica increased from 50 to 78%; the youngT. mossambica could not consume and utilize sufficient algae to meet its metabolic energy requirement.2. On supplementing the algal food with goat liver, the fish consumed not only more food (38 mg/g/day) but also enhanced the absorption efficiency to 94%.3. Given only the liver pieces, the fish consumed 47 mg-g-day; it displayed 95 and 30% of absorption and conversion efficiencies. However, the fish preyed upon and could consume only 41 mg tadpoles/g/day and convert with 26% (K2) efficiency.

Kurzfassung Die Nahrungsausnutzung des herbivoren FischesTilapia mossambica wurde bei unterschiedlichem Futterangebot untersucht. Als Nahrung dienten die GrünalgeSpirogyra maxima, Ziegenleber und lebende Kaulquappen. Mit Algennahrung allein konnten Jungfische ihren Energiebedarf nicht decken. Wurde darüber hinaus Ziegenleber verfüttert, so erhöhte sich sowohl die aufgenommene Nahrungsmenge als auch die Nahrungsausnutzung. Maximale Konversionsraten wurden bei ausschließlich tierischer Kost erzielt.

以澳洲杨的胚珠及其种子为材料,运用光学显微镜和电镜扫描的方法对其从胚珠发生直到种子成熟的个体发育过程和结构进行观察,同时与鸭脚西番莲的种子附属结构的发育过程进行对比研究。结果表明:(1)澳洲杨的珠孔类型为外珠孔类型,种子附属结构起源于珠孔而非珠柄,其为种阜,而非假种皮。(2)鸭脚西番莲的珠孔类型为内珠孔类型,种子附属结构起源于珠柄,并且最终将珠孔包被,其为真正的假种皮结构。通过种阜与假种皮的不同个体发育过程,建立了大戟科种阜与假种皮的不同发育模式,并对种子附属结构的生物学功能及其暗示的不同植物进化路径进行了讨论。  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Four new species of Eimeria were found in a survey of 255 rats of 14 species in Malaysia. E. tikusi n. sp. and E. edwardsi n. sp. are described from Edwards' rat Rattus edwardsi. The ellipsoidal, single-layered oocysts of E. tikusi average 30.3 by 24.4 μ. A micropyle is absent; a polar granule is present. Ovoid sporocysts average 14.2 by 9.8 μ. A sporocyst residuum and Stieda body are present. The ovoid, 2-layered oocysts of E. edwardsi average 29.1 by 21.8 μ. A micropyle is present; a polar granule is absent. Ellipsoidal to ovoid sporocysts average 14.5 by 6.5 μ. A sporocyst residuum is present; Stieda body is small or absent. E. surifer n. sp. is described from the red spiny rat Rattus surifer. Its ellipsoidal 3-layered oocysts average 34.7 by 24.8 μ. A micropyle is absent; a polar granule is present. The ellipsoidal sporocysts average 15.4 by 9.5 μ. A sporocyst residuum, Stieda body and sub-Stieda body are present. E. sabani n. sp. is described from the long-tailed giant rat R. sabanus. Its ellipsoidal 2-layered oocysts average 28.5 by 21.7 μ. Synopsis The micropyle of seven salmonins and four coregonins were examined by a scanning electron microscope. In addition, the micropyle of Coregonus pidschian is described for the first time. The micropyles and the surface pattern may be used for identification of eggs. The studied micropyle belongs to two different types: 1. micropyle with flat pit and long canal (type II) and 2. micropyle with canal but without pit (type III). Since the second Indochina war, habitat destruction and overhunting has resulted in fragmentation of the remaining populations of Bos javanicus and B. gaurus. Nowadays, both species are in serious danger, especially the gaur. In Vietnam, where these species have become almost impossible to capture in the wild, non-invasive investigations are the only feasible approach to obtain data on populations. However, non-invasive derived DNA, especially in tropical areas, is usually characterized by low concentrations, poor quality and/or contamination from alien DNA. To assist in tropical conservation management, baseline information is provided here on assessing the reliability of species identification, molecular sexing and microsatellite genotyping using fecal DNA from B. gaurus and B. javanicus. For species identification using bovine fecal samples, cytochrome b fragment between positions 867 and 1140 was found to contain species diagnostic sites, which distinguishes the four species encountered in the region: B. gaurus, B. indicus, B. javanicus and B. taurus. For sex determination, primers were initially tested on DNA obtained from blood. Then, these primers were successfully used on DNA derived from fecal material. Finally, we also evaluate the feasibility of non-invasive microsatellite genotyping on fecal samples collected in Vietnamese nature reserves. Summary The surface structure of eggs of Notothenia neglecta, Nototheniops larseni, Nototheniops nudifrons (Nototheniidae), Champsocephalus gunnari and Chaenocephalus aceratus (Channichthyidae), collected near Elephant Island (Atlantic sector of the Southern Ocean) and of Notothenia rossii rossii (Nototheniidae) from Kerguelen waters (Indian sector of the Southern Ocean) was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Eggs of N. larseni differed from the other species by containing a micropyle with two micropyle pits. External morphological characteristics of the egg envelope such as the ultrastructure of the zona radiata, its interpore distances and the diameter of the micropyle were species-specific and could aid in the identification of fish eggs collected from the Southern Ocean.  相似文献

Summary Unexplained high mortality ofTilapia mossambica (Peters) has at times been noted during winter in dams on the South African Highveld and prompted an investigation into the temperature tolerance and temperature preference of this species.This work deals with the temperature selected by the fish.The history of temperature selection experiments is outlined and a relatively simple technique of establishing a temperature gradient in a horizontal test tank is described.Results obtained with juvenile fish previously acclimated to various controlled temperatures showed that these fish selected a range of temperatures of 27.0°C to 33.5°C, with a theoretical median selection temperature of 28.5°C.The findings are discussed with reference to previous relevant literature.It is concluded thatT. mossambica was a thermophilic species which could succumb during cold spells in the Highveld dams.
Zusammenfassung Unerklärtes Massensterben vonTilapia mossambica (Peters), das ab und zu im Winter in Stauweihern des südafrikanischen Hochvelds auftritt, war Anlass zu einer Untersuchung nach Temperaturtoleranz und Temperaturvorzug bei dieser Fischart.Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit der von diesen Fischen bevorzugten Temperatur.Über den Varlauf von Temperaturauswahlversuchen wird rapportiert und eine verhältnismässig einfache Technik zur Herstellung eines Temperaturgefälles in einem horizontalen Versuchsbecken wird beschrieben.Die Ergebnisse mit Jungfischen, die im voraus verschiedenen kontrollierten Temperaturen ausgesetzt waren, zeigten, dass diese Fische einen Temperaturbereich von 27.0°C bis 33.5°C bevorzugten, mit einer theoretischen mittleren Vorzugstemperatur von 28.5°C.Es wird gefolgert, dassT. mossambica eine thermophile Art ist, die Kälteeinbrüchen in den Stauweihern des Hochvelds erliegen kann.

Summary The life cycle of Allomyces javanicus was studied with the hanging drop method under laboratory conditions. The isolate has a life cyrle similar to that already described in A. javanicus and A. arbuscula. Planonts from resistant sporangia do not germinate directly to produce gametophytic plants, but on the contrary, the latter germinate to produce plants like their immediate parents. Female and male gametes growing in the gametangia of relatively young sexual mycelia develop into asexual mycelia after conjugation, but some of the female gametes after germination develop into asexual mycelia without conjugation.  相似文献

Lipase-coated microcrystals of inorganic salts were prepared by dissolving enzymes in buffers and then mixing with 3 volumes of saturated salt solutions followed by drop-wise addition into polar precipitating organic solvents. The Mucor javanicus lipase-coated microcrystals did not show any activity for esterification of lauric acid with 1-propanol in isooctane when NaCl and Na2SO4 were used as the salts but showed much higher activity than the enzyme powder when KCl (10.0 times) and K2SO4 (5.8 times) were used as the salts and precipitated in 1-propanol. Acetonitrile was found to be the best precipitating solvent for preparing M. javanicus lipase-coated microcrystals, with enzyme activities 26.2 and 22.4 times higher than that of the enzyme powder when KCl and K2SO4 were used as precipitating salts, respectively. The presence of water in the precipitating solvents markedly decreased the enzyme activity. The M. javanicus lipase-coated microcrystals prepared using K2SO4 as the salt and acetonitrile as the precipitating solvent was as active at 80°C as at 40°C. No significant improvement in enantioselectivity of Candida rugosa lipase-coated microcrystals was observed for transesterification of 1-phenylethanol with vinyl acetate in hexane when the microcrystals were prepared by dissolving the enzymes in salt solutions containing 25% (v/v) of acetone or 2-propanol before precipitating in polar solvents.  相似文献

In this study, population genetic and demographic parameters were inferred using sequence data from 151 individuals of Anguilla mossambica originating from continental south and south-east Africa and Madagascar. The analyses were based on a 532 bp segment of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. The absence of genetic structuring was observed thereby supporting the hypothesis of panmixia for the endemic A. mossambica. The overall nucleotide diversity π = 0.002 and the haplotype diversity reached h = 0.691. Significant negative values from several tests of neutrality and mismatch analysis pointed to fluctuating historical population sizes. Bayesian averaging resulted in higher support for population growth models vs. a constant population-size model. Population decline and subsequent growth most likely predated the last glacial and were probably related to extended periods of extreme drought followed by wetter and more stable hydroclimate between 150 and 75,000 years before present (kBP). According to this scenario the female effective population size has increased since 110 kBP by c. two orders of magnitude to a recent level of about 650,000 (219,317–2,292,000).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The embryology of Clitoria ternatea was studied. Anthers contain four sporangia. The anther wall comprises an epidermis, an endothecium, a middle layer and a glandular tapetum. Microspore tetrads are tetrahedral and pollen grains are shed at the 2-cell stage. The ovule is campylotropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate. The micropyle is formed by both the integuments. The megaspore tetrad is linear or T-shaped. The chalazal megaspore is functional and embryo sac development follows the monosporic Polygonum type. Endosperm development is of the nuclear type. The chalazal part of the endosperm forms a haustorium. Embryo development follows the Onagrad type.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die beschalten Dauerstadien (Gemmulae) des SüßwasserschwammesEphydatia fluviatilis enthalten uniforme, totipotente Statocyten (Thésocyten), aus denen sich im Keimungsverlauf Archaeocyten (ein- und zweikernige) und Histoblasten differenzieren. Letztere treten nach einem gewissen Inkubationszeitraum in der zapfenartigen Zone unter der Mikropyle auf, während sich die übrigen Zelltypen zu einem an der Schalenöffnung orientierten, dreidimensionalen Muster gefälleartig anordnen.Nach Ausbildung eines einschichtigen Pinacocyten-Epithels (primäres Pinacoderm) aus peripher gelegenen, einkernigen Zellen schlüpft das nunmehr im Kapselinneren entstandene Primordium durch die offene Mikropyle und nimmt mit dem Substrat Verbindung auf.Das Primordium entwickelt sich zum frühen Jungschwamm, in den die restlichen Archaeocyten, Histoblasten und auch vereinzelt Skleroblasten einwandern.

Summary The dormant shelled gemmulae of the fresh water spongeEphydatia fluviatilis contain uniform, totipotent statocytes (thésocytes), which can differentiate either into archaeocytes (mono- and binucleated) or into histoblasts. The histoblasts accumulate at the villus near the micropyle. The other cell types orientate in a three-dimensional pattern at the micropyle, according to a developing gradient.After the primary pinacoderm is formed, the sponge primordium is released through the open micropyle. The primordium develops into a new sponge, into which archaeocytes, histoblasts and scleroblasts migrate.
