Females of the leaf miner moth Phyllonorycter acerifoliella (Z.) [=Ph. sylvella (Hw.)] and Ph. heegerella (Z.) (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae: Lithocolletinae) release their sex pheromone at the beginning of photophase. The periodicity of the `calling' behaviour of Ph. acerifoliella females was established. Three compounds from calling virgin Ph. heegerella females were collected by the Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) technique and identified as (Z)-8-tetradecenyl acetate (Z8-14:OAc), tetradecyl acetate (14:OAc) and (Z)-8-tetradecenol (Z8-14:OH) in the ratio (88±3):(2±0.6):(10±5) by capillary gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Field trapping experiments demonstrated that the first two compounds are important for the attraction of conspecific males. Z8-14:OAc was found to be attractive when tested separately, while 14:OAc acted as synergist. The attractivity of the three component blend was reduced by 10% admixture of either (E)-10-dodecenyl acetate (E10-12:OAc) or (Z)-10-tetradecenyl acetate (Z10-14:OAc).Field tests of Z10-, Z8- and E10-14:OAc, identified from Ph. acerifoliella females, demonstrated that the first two compounds were essential for the attraction of conspecific males; so both are sex pheromone components. The attractivity of the three component blend of Z10- Z8- and E10-14:OAc was reduced by 10% admixture of (E)-10-dodecenol (E10-12:OH). The following four semiochemical compounds, Z8-14:OAc, Z8-14:OH, E10-14:OAc and 14:OAc, identified from phyllonoryctid females, as well as two sex attraction antagonists for Ph. acerifoliella and Ph. heegerella males, E10-12:OAc and Z10-14:OAc, are new for the family Gracillariidae. The results of field trapping experiments revealed mechanisms ensuring the specificity of the chemocommunication systems in Ph. acerifoliella, Ph. heegerella and Ph. ulmifoliella (Hb.) moths.  相似文献

Summary An algorithm for the optimization of a fermentation process was studied using the combination of dynamic programming and linear predictive procedure by regression analysis. Lactobacillus plantarum AKU 1009a effectively transforms linoleic acid to conjugated linoleic acids of cis-9,trans-11-octadecadienoic acid (18:2) and trans-9,trans-11–18:2. The transformation of various polyunsaturated fatty acids by washed cells of L. plantarum AKU 1009a was investigated. Besides linoleic acid, α-linolenic acid [cis-9,cis-12,cis-15-octadecatrienoic acid (18:3)], γ-linolenic acid (cis-6,cis-9,cis-12–18:3), columbinic acid (trans-5,cis-9,cis-12–18:3), and stearidonic acid [cis-6,cis-9,cis-12,cis-15-octadecatetraenoic acid (18:4)] were found to be transformed. The fatty acids transformed by the strain had the common structure of a C18 fatty acid with the cis-9,cis-12 diene system. Three major fatty acids were produced from α-linolenic acid, which were identified as cis-9,trans-11,cis-15–18:3, trans-9,trans-11,cis-15–18:3, and trans-10,cis-15–18:2. Four major fatty acids were produced from γ-linolenic acid, which were identified as cis-6,cis-9,trans-11–18:3, cis-6,trans-9,trans-11–18:3, cis-6,trans-10–18:2, and trans-10-octadecenoic acid. The strain transformed the cis-9,cis-12 diene system of C18 fatty acids into conjugated diene systems of cis-9,trans-11 and trans-9,trans-11. These conjugated dienes were further saturated into the trans-10 monoene system by the strain. The results provide valuable information for understanding the pathway of biohydrogenation by anaerobic bacteria and for establishing microbial processes for the practical production of conjugated fatty acids, especially those produced from α-linolenic acid and γ-linolenic acid. Fatty-acid biomarkers are frequently used for the identification of trophic relationships among marine zooplankton. We have evaluated the suitability of five fatty-acid ratios [16:0/16:1(n-7), 16:1(n-7)/18:4(n-3), 18:1(n-9)/18:1(n-7), 20:5(n-3)/22:6(n-3), PUFA/SFA] that have been proposed as trophic indicators in the literature. Total lipid content and fatty-acid composition were determined in four Antarctic euphausiid species (Euphausia superba, E. frigida, E. triacantha, Thysanoessa macrura). There is a significant relationship between the lipid content and most of these ratios in the investigated euphausiids. Only the 16:1(n-7)/18:4(n-3) ratio exhibits no clear relationship to total lipids. Further exceptions occur in E. triacantha: the 18:1(n-9)/18:1(n-7) and the 20:5(n-3)/22:6(n-3) ratios are not correlated to the lipid content in this species. There is a weaker correlation between the fatty-acid ratios and the total lipid content in E. superba larvae than in the postlarvae, indicating a stronger dietary influence on the lipids of the younger stages. We conclude that those fatty-acid ratios that strongly depend on an animals total lipid content (particularly PUFA/SFA), are only of limited use as trophic indices, since total lipid content may vary greatly with factors (such as reproductive processes) that are unrelated to specific feeding preferences.  相似文献

Premating behaviors mediated by pheromones play pivotal roles in animal mating choices. In natural populations of the striped stem borer Chilo suppressalis and the rice leaf roller Cnaphalocrocis medinalis in the rice field habitat, we discovered that Z11-16:Ald, a major component of the C. suppressalis pheromone, modulated the premating behavior of C. medinalis. Z11-16:Ald evoked a strong olfactory response in male antennae and strongly inhibited the sex pheromone trapping of male C. medinalis in the field. The functions of three C. medinalis sex pheromone receptor genes (CmedPR1–3) were verified through heterologous expression in Xenopus oocytes. CmedPR1 responded to Z11-18:OH and Z11-18:Ald, as well as the interspecific pheromone compound Z11-16:Ac of sympatric species; CmedPR2 responded to Z13-18:OH and Z13-18:Ald, as well as the sex pheromone compounds Z11-16:Ald and Z9-16:Ald of sympatric species; and CmedPR3 responded to Z11-18:OH and Z13-18:OH, as well as the interspecific pheromones Z11-16:OH, Z9-16:Ald, Z11-16:Ac, and Z11-16:Ald of sympatric species. Thus, CmedPR2 and CmedPR3 share the ligand Z11-16:Ald, which is not a component of the C. medinalis sex pheromone. Therefore, the sex pheromones of interspecific species affected the input of neural signals by stimulating the sex pheromone receptors on the antennae of male C. medinalis moths, thereby inhibiting the olfactory responses of the male moths to the sex pheromones. Our results demonstrate chemical communication among sympatric species in the rice field habitat, the recognition of intra- and interspecific sex pheromones by olfactory receptors, and how insect premating behaviors are modulated to possibly affect resource partitioning.  相似文献

The phospholipid fatty acid composition of the Caribbean gorgonians Pseudopterogorgia acerosa (Pallas), Pseudopterogorgia americana (Gmelin), Pseudopterogorgia bipinnata (Verrill) and Pseudopterogorgia rigida (Bielschowsky) is described for the first time. The main phospholipids identified were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. All four gorgonians presented a similar phospholipid fatty acid composition. The main fatty acids were 16:0, 18:3(n-6), 18:4(n-3), 20:4(n-6), 22:6(n-3), 24:5(n-6) and 24:6(n-3). In all of the studied Pseudopterogorgia gorgonians, high amounts of the tetracosapolyenoic fatty acids 24:5(n-6) and 24:6(n-3) were identified. In the four gorgonians studied, n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids predominated. These results suggest that the occurrence of tetracosapolyenoic fatty acids in the Gorgoniidae is more general than previously recognized.  相似文献

The heteronemertean genus Lineus Sowerby, 1806 has been badly in need of revision because of its apparent non-monophyly. In this paper, we focus on Lineus torquatus Coe, 1901, one of the heteronemertean species that occur commonly in waters around the North Pacific, as well as a few other allied species distributed in the western North Pacific, including Lineus alborostratus Takakura, 1898 and Cerebratulus montgomeryi Coe, 1901. Based on phylogenetic analyses using 16S, COI, 28S, 18S, and H3 gene and ITS sequences, we detected a well-supported clade comprised of heteronemerteans with a frontal white band on the head, to which we add Kulikovia gen. nov. This genus is nested within a more comprehensive, highly supported clade, here named the Siphonenteron-clade, which contains Tenuilineus bicolour (Verrill, 1892), Lineus flavescens Coe, 1905, Siphonenteron bilineatum (Renier, 1804), S. cf. bilineatum, Lineus cf. caputornatus, and Lineus sp. from Guam. Our analyses confirmed the presence of a cryptic species of what was formerly known as the cherry-red and reddish forms of Lineus torquatus, herein described as Kulikovia manchenkoi sp. nov. based on some external characters, internal morphology, and the four genetic markers (COI, 16S, H3, and ITS). In contrast to the species pair K. torquataK. manchenkoi, the reddish form of K. alborostrata does not differ genetically from the typical form of this species. The significance of the external and internal characters for distinguishing cryptic species is discussed.

The capsular polysaccharide produced by a Rhizobium isolated from a root nodule of Acacia decurrens is composed of 3-O-methyl- -rhamnose: -rhamnose: - mannose: -glucose: -galacturonic acid in the molar ratios of 1:2:2:4:1. The extracellular polysaccharide is similarly constituted. Structural analyses indicate a decasaccharide repeating-unit in which the -rhamnosyl groups occur as single-unit side-chains. The 3-O-methyl- -rhamnosyl and one of the α- -rhamnosyl groups are (1→6)-linked to two of the -glucosyl residues. The other α- -rhamnosyl group is (1→4)-linked to the -galacturonic acid residue. The main-chain residues are all (1→3)-linked, and are partially identified as -(1→3)-α- -GalpA-(1→3)-α- -Manp- (1→3)-α- -Glcp-(1→3)-.  相似文献

Four new micropterous species of the genus Sunius Curtis, 1829 are described and illustrated from western Anatolia: Sunius akdaghensis sp. n. from Kütahya province, Sunius ciceki sp. n. from Bal?kesir province, Sunius ozgeni sp. n. and Sunius cagatayi sp. n. from Denizli province. Additional records are presented for three species. The genus Sunius is now represented in Turkey by 36 species.

On the basis of the character “hairiness of rosette leaves,” it was determined that the gl1-1 allele in homozygote state suppresses the manifestation of the dis-2-1 allele (dis2-1 < gl1-1); therefore, F2 segregation is identified in a ratio of 9: 3: 4, typical for recessive epistasis. Inheritance of differences in hairiness of stem leaves corresponds to the Mendel scheme of segregation (9: 3: 3: 1) which is typical for dihybrids. Hairiness is absent on stems of triple recessive dis2-1, er-1, and gl1-1 plants, and segregation in F2 is observed in the ratio of 9: 3: 4. A new line (Lug227) has been obtained on the mapping of mutant recessive genes dis2-1, er-1, and gl1-1.  相似文献

We investigated five penicillin derivatives that are popularly used for transformation experiments with Agrobacterium rhizogenes—penicillin G, carbenicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin and cephalexin—for their effects on the growth and morphology of Beta vulgaris, Capsicum annuum and Glehnia littoralis roots. Attention was given to the relationship between their chemical structures and functions. Ampicillin was found to stimulate root elongation but inhibit root branching, whereas carbenicillin inhibited root elongation but promoted root branching. Root cultures were also exposed to hydrolyzed products of these antibiotics—i.e. phenylmalonic acid (PM), phenylglycine and 6-aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA): PM inhibited root elongation the most, while root elongation was supported best by 6-APA. These results indicate that both the side chains and the major component of penicillin derivatives affect root development and that the nature of the side chains is responsible for the responses. Summary Two stable derivatives of the highly unstable niv-53::Tam1 allele of Antirrhinum majus were analysed. In both derivatives the Tam1 element is integrated at the same site and in the same orientation as in the parental niv-53::Tam1 allele. In both cases the Tam1 element was found to carry a 5 bp deletion (CACTA) in one of its termini. This explains the excision deficiency of these two alleles of Tam1, niv-53::Tam1-46 and niv-53::Tam1-49. Niv-44::Tam2, another stable nivea mutation, carries the 5 kb element Tam2, which is not a derivative of Tam1 but possesses identical terminal inverted repeats. When the stable lines 46 and 49 were corssed with line 44, suprisingly, a high number of the flowers in the F1 displayed a variegated phenotype. Sequence analysis of two germinal revertants isolated from the heterozygote niv-53::Tam1-46/niv-44::Tam2 shows excision of the Tam2 element. This indicates that Tam2 is a defective element, which can be complemented by an active Tam1 element. However, the variegated F1 phenotype observed is not inherited monofactorially. Variegation is seen only at particular times of development of the F1 plants. These phenomena seem to involve both the Tam1 and Tam2 transposable elements.  相似文献

Female sex pheromone of a clearwing moth Nokona feralis (Leech) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae), a pest of kiwifruit, was identified to be a 7:3 mixture of (3E,13Z)-3,13-octadecadienyl acetate (E3,Z13-18:OAc) and (3E,13Z)-3,13-octadecadien-1-ol (E3,Z13-18:OH) by GC-EAD and GC/MS analyses. Males were attracted to wide-range mixtures of E3,Z13-18:OAc and E3,Z13-18:OH, and a 7:3 mixture of those two compounds strongly attracted the males in the field.  相似文献

The mean crowding has previously been measured under the assumption that all quadrats or habitat units have the same size, even though the actual habitat units such as seeds or leaves are generally variable in size. A new index, ‘adjusted mean crowding’, which is adjusted for this variability can be given as where Q is the total number of habitat units in the whole area, xj the number of individuals in the jth habitat unit, and aj is defined as the ‘relative size’ of the jth habitat unit, i.e. ay=yy/(∑yj/Q) where yj is the actually measured size of the jth habitat unit. It is expected that and for the uniform distribution and the random distribution ‘per unit size’, respectively. The comparison between and regressions ( analysis) for the egg distribution pattern of Callosobruchus chinensis or C. maculatus proved that the regression is biased by a positive correlation between the egg number per seed and seed size rather than by a density-dependent change in the ovipositional behavior.  相似文献

The composition of fatty acids in 12 strains of the genera Thermus, Meiothermus, Geobacillus and Alicyclobacillus was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Major FAs found in the profiles included i-15:0, i-17:0, ai-15:0, i-16:0, 16:0, ai-17:0, together with some minor components. Branched FAs were predominant, forming more than 80% of all FAs measured. Fast atom bombardment-mass spectrometry was used for analysis of unusual glycophospholipids, i.e., acylglycosylcardiolipins from genera Geobacillus and Alicyclobacillus and 1-(hydroxy(2-(O-acylglycosyl-oxy)hexadecyloxy)phosphoryloxy) hexadecan-2-yl esters of C15–C17 acids from genera Thermus and Meiothermus. Cloning and preliminary sequence analysis of 16S rDNA showed that these isolates belong to the genera Thermus, Meiothermus, Geobacillus and Alicyclobacillus.  相似文献
