Phragmidum spp. are rust fungi that are serious pathogens of plants in the Rosaceae. We characterized 15 Phragmidium species from Tibet, including 12 previously described and 3 new species. All the taxa, including the three new species (Ph. chayuensis, Ph. cibanum, Ph. zangdongii) are described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics. These taxa have multi-celled teliospores with firm pedicels. Phragmidium chayuensis is characterized by (5)7–9-celled teliospores with short papillae. Phragmidium cibanum is characterized by smooth teliospores that are distinctly constricted at the septa. Phragmidium zangdongii is characterized by large uredinia and 11–13-celled teliospores. Five types of urediniospore-surface structures were identified based on the gross shape of ornamentations and their distribution on the urediniospore wall. Molecular sequence data from the LSU rDNA analysis showed that the new taxa formed distinct clades independent from previously recorded species represented by LSU rDNA sequence data. The phylogenetic tree indicated that Phragmidium species are highly host specific.  相似文献

A contribution is made to the rust fungus flora of Argentina: Puccinia baccharidis-boliviensis, P. cordyceps, P. pucarae, and Aecidium hypseocharidicola are described as new species. Cionothrix praelonga, Fromme?lla mexicana var. mexicana, Phakopsora compressa, Prospodium peruvianum, Puccinia amphiospora, P. chaetochloae, P. liabi, P. pappophori, P. sanguinolenta, P. subaquila, Ravenelia havanensis, Uredo leonuri, Uromyces orbicularis, and U. cnidoscoli are new reports for Argentina. New observations on already known species were made: the aecia of Puccinia subaquila and aecia and uredinia of Uromyces cnidoscoli are described for the first time. Senecio hieronymi is a new host for Puccinia lagenophorae. Uredo leonuri belongs to the genus Coleosporium. Melilotus albus is a new host of Uromyces anthyllidis in Argentina.  相似文献

The 16S rRNA gene sequences of Mycoplasma cavipharyngis and Mycoplasma fastidiosum have been determined. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these species formed a new cluster within the so-called pneumoniae group of the mollicutes (class Mollicutes). This cluster will be referred to as the M. fastidiosum cluster. Interestingly, the M. fastidiosum cluster formed a sister lineage to the haemotrophic bacteria. Eperythrozoon spp. and Haemobartonella spp. The two latter genera, formerly classified as rickettsias, formed a stable phylogenetic entity in the tree as judged from branch lengths, bootstrap values and sequence signatures. Thus, the members of the M. fastidiosum cluster are the closest known relatives to the haemotrophic bacteria. Our data strongly support that the haemotrophic bacteria should be reclassified to reflect their actual phylogenetic affiliation.  相似文献

Numerous aquatic species are threatened with extinction from habitat elimination or modification. One particularly imperilled group is the freshwater gastropod family Pleuroceridae. Pleurocerids reach their greatest diversity in the southeastern United States, and many species are currently considered extinct, endangered or threatened. One issue hindering efforts to implement conservation management plans for imperilled pleurocerid species is that the taxonomy is in an abysmal state. The taxonomy of pleurocerids is currently based on late 19th- and early 20th-century studies, which used a typological or morphospecies concept. Most biologists today doubt the validity of many of the currently recognized species; however, this does not stop them from assigning conservation ranks in an attempt to determine which species are imperilled or currently stable. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis of the pleurocerid genus Lithasia using morphological and mitochondrial DNA sequence (mtDNA) data in an attempt to delimit species boundaries and test previous taxonomic schemes. We found that the current taxonomy of Lithasia does not reflect species diversity adequately within the genus, with two new undescribed species being discovered. The conservation status ranks of the new, undescribed species are imperilled and would have been overlooked had we relied on the conventional taxonomy. Additionally, the undescribed species' conservation ranks that were previously apparently secure became vulnerable due to being inappropriately assigned as members of formerly widely distributed species instead of the imperilled status they warrant and vice versa, as some taxa that were considered imperilled are now thought to be modestly stable. Our study suggests that conservation ranks should be considered suspect at best in taxonomically poorly known groups until the taxa are reviewed using modern systematic methods.  相似文献

A 41-year study (1968–2008) of the orchids of the Catoctin Mountains, Frederick County, Maryland reveals that 19 of 21 species have experienced precipitous declines. Four of these species are currently considered Threatened or Endangered by the State of Maryland and another two are considered Rare. Annual census data at 167 sites from throughout the Catoctin Mountains on protected and unprotected lands (private and public) show a loss of three species from the study area, a decline of >90 % (ranging from 99 to 91 %) in seven species, and a decline of <90 % (ranging from 51 to 87 %) for nine species. Each species was analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares Analysis to show trends and document corresponding R2 and p values. We tested the hypothesis that this decline is due to intensified herbivory by white-tailed deer. The overall orchid census data is significantly inversely-correlated (R = ?0.93) to the white-tailed deer harvest data of Frederick County (a surrogate for population size), which includes the entirety of the study area. Platanthera ciliaris showed a huge expansion at a single site explicitly managed for this species otherwise this orchid showed a decline similar to the other species. Proper management is critical for the continuation of the orchid species in this study, be it control of the white-tailed deer herd or combating woody plant succession in the case of P. ciliaris.  相似文献

The controversial relationship between body mass and basal metabolic rate in animals revolves around two questions: what is the allometric scaling exponent and what is the functional basis for it? For mammals, the first question could be resolved if measurements from all 4600 extant species were available, but this study shows that data for only 150 species, spanning three to four orders of magnitude variation in body mass, are sufficient to accurately determine the exponent. Because the currently available data set includes about 600 species that vary over five orders of magnitude in body size, further increases in sample size are unlikely to change the estimate of the scaling exponent.  相似文献

The isolation of anaerobes from patients has declined in recent years, whereas their detection by molecular techniques has increased. In the present work, we analyzed the application of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing to routine identification of anaerobes in clinical microbiology laboratory. We identified 544 isolates of 79 species by routine culture from deep samples in our hospital. MALDI-TOF MS allowed identification of 332 isolates (61%). The remaining 212 (39%) were identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, allowing identification of 202 at the species level. The most common anaerobes were Propionibacterium spp. (12%), Finegoldia magna (4%), Fusobacterium spp. (6%) and Bacteroides spp. (6%). However, among the 79 identified species, seven were new species or genera, including two Prevotella conceptionensis, a species previously detected by our team by amplification and sequencing, five Anaerococcus sp. and one Prevotella sp. Beyond the identification of these new species, we also identified several uncommon or previously not described associations between species and specific pathologic conditions. MALDI-TOF MS-based identification, which will become more effective with future spectra database improvement, will be likely responsible of a burden of emerging anaerobes in clinical microbiology.  相似文献

松口蘑复合种含有松口蘑Tricholoma matsutake (也称松茸)、北欧口蘑T. nauseosum、喜栎口蘑T. zangii和美洲口蘑T. magnivelare等4个分类单元。在对来自中国、日本、法国、西班牙、瑞典、芬兰和美国的标本进行形态学研究的基础上,认为松口蘑、北欧口蘑、喜栎口蘑形态十分接近,它们的分类地位应该重新考虑。美洲口蘑和它们的差别也不大。对松口蘑复合种的寄主和地理分布也进行了总结,发现松口蘑和美洲口蘑的寄主范围较广,寄主专化性不强,而北欧口蘑和喜栎口蘑的寄主比较专一。在地理分布上,松口蘑和美洲口蘑形成亚洲—北美地理替代种的分布格局;松口蘑和北欧口蘑形成欧亚间断分布的分布格局;喜栎口蘑的地理分布范围完全包含在松口蘑的分布范围中。松口蘑复合种种类的分布区和它们各自寄主的分布不一定完全相同。在松口蘑复合种内,北欧口蘑和松口蘑已被认为是同一个种,而其余两个分类单元的分类地位值得进一步研究。  相似文献

Infective juveniles of entomopathogenic nematodes in the genus Steinernema harbor symbiotic bacteria, Xenorhabdus spp., in a discrete structure located in the anterior portion of the intestine known as the 'bacterial receptacle' (formerly known as the bacterial or intestinal vesicle). The receptacle itself is a structured environment in which the bacteria are spatially restricted. Inside this receptacle, bacterial symbionts are protected from the environment and grow to fill the receptacle. Until now, no comparative study across different Steinernema spp. has been undertaken to investigate if morphological variation in this structure exists at the interspecific level. In this study, we examined the bacterial receptacles of 25 Steinernema spp. representatives of the currently accepted five evolutionary clades. Our observations confirmed the bacterial receptacle is a modification of the two most anterior cells of the ventricular portion of the intestine. Size of the bacterial receptacle varied across the examined species. Steinernema monticolum (clade II) had the largest receptacle of all examined species (average: 46×17 μm) and S. rarum (no clade affiliation) was noted as the species with the smallest observed receptacle (average: 8×5 μm). At the morphological level, species can be grouped into two categories based on the presence or absence of vesicle within the receptacle. The receptacles of all examined species harbored an intravesicular structure (IVS) with variable morphology. All examined taxa members of the 'feltiae' (clade III) and 'intermedium' (clade II) clades were characterized by having a vesicle. This structure was also observed in S. diaprepesi (clade V), S. riobrave (clade IV) and S. monticolum (clade I).  相似文献

Species introductions into nearby communities may seem innocuous, however, these introductions, like long-distance introductions (e.g. trans- and intercontinental), can cause extinctions and alter the evolutionary trajectories of remaining community members. These 'local introductions' can also more cryptically homogenize formerly distinct populations within a species. We focus on several characteristics and the potential consequences of local introductions. First, local introductions are commonly successful because the species being introduced is compatible with existing abiotic and biotic conditions; many nearby communities differ because of historical factors and the absence of certain species is simply the result of barriers to dispersal. Moreover, the species with which they interact most strongly (e.g. prey) may have, for example, lost defences making the establishment even more likely. The loss or absence of defences is especially likely when the absent species is a strongly interacting species, which we argue often includes mammals in terrestrial communities. Second, the effects of the introduction may be difficult to detect because the community is likely to converge onto nearby communities that naturally have the introduced species (hence the perceived innocuousness). This homogenization of formerly distinct populations eliminates the geographic diversity of species interactions and the geographic potential for speciation, and reduces regional species diversity. We illustrate these ideas by focusing on the introduction of tree squirrels into formerly squirrel-less forest patches. Such introductions have eliminated incipient species of crossbills (Loxia spp.) co-evolving in arms races with conifers and will likely have considerable impacts on community structure and ecosystem processes.  相似文献

The Haemosporida order is a well-supported clade of heteroxenous parasites transmitted by dipteran insects and frequently found parasitizing wild birds. These parasites have already been reported in all zoogeographic regions of the world, except for Antarctica. One of the potential hosts of haemosporidians is the Cracidae family, which includes approximately 50 species, 22 of which are present in Brazil, classified within nine genera. Data on haemosporidian infecting individuals of the Cracidae family is scarce, with only three Haemoproteus species being recorded in this group of birds. We found Haemoproteus spp. infection in all Penelope obscura bronzina analyzed. Among the parasites found, we observed two lineages of Haemoproteus (PENOBS02 and PENOBS03), which were characterized by morphological, molecular and phylogenetic approaches. The morphological data on cracid haemosporidian parasites, together with our phylogenetic results, allows discussions on the taxonomy of the Haemoproteus parasites that infect birds of the Cracidae family.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers in 80 populations belonging to 18 species of Potentilla L. subgen. Potentilla from the Iberian Peninsula and two of P. maura, a North African endemic taxon, have been counted. The basic number of chromosomes is always x = 7 and these chromosomes are small (between 1 and 2 μm). For three species, the number of chromosomes is reported for the first time and, for another six, this number has been established in Iberian representatives. Moreover, new ploidy levels have been obtained for P. hispanica and P. crantzii with regard to their entire distribution area, and in P. cinerea and P. neumanniana for the Iberian Peninsula. Some taxonomic, phylogenetic and phytogeographic comments are made for several species or groups of species from the West Mediterranean region. In 13 species only one ploidy level has been found, but six species have several ploidy levels. Seven ploidy levels occur in the investigated taxa. The frequency of each ploidy level represented within Iberian Potentilla is analysed and the data are compared with those available for taxa from the rest of the distribution area of the genus.  相似文献

Abstract  Acalitus essigi , the eriophyoid mite that causes red berry disease in Rubus species (Rosaceae), was collected from the fruits of three species of weedy blackberry, R. anglocandicans , R. laudatus and R. ulmifolius , in south-west Australia. This is the first record for this species in Western Australia and these plants appear to be new host records for A. essigi , which causes uneven ripening of fruit. Information on the mite is reviewed in the context of determining its potential as a biological control agent for Rubus species, especially those that are not susceptible to Phragmidium violaceum (Uredinales), the rust fungus being released against species of European blackberry in Australia. Published records also show that A. essigi will attack a wide range of Rubus species including species of North American origin that currently escape biological control in Australia. It may also be useful for preventing the spread of commercial varieties of Rubus (e.g. raspberry and loganberry) that have escaped to become weedy. However, the mite may have limited dispersal ability and thus require redistribution.  相似文献

运用DCCA排序轴分类,将河北坝上草原东沟的植物群落划分为8类,效果较好.排序图表达了植物群落的环境梯度、结构梯度和人为干扰.第1轴反映了群落在海拔和坡度方面的空间梯度,第2轴反映了群落的坡向分异格局,两轴综合反映了群落沿水分梯度的空间分异.群落的层片构成和各层片物种组成也表现出相应的空间分布格局.白桦局限在阴坡高海拔陡峭处.阴坡灌木与草本层片优势种分别为金露梅与细叶苔草,阳坡则为蒿类和冰草.阳坡群落各层片优势种还存在海拔和坡度分布格局.另外,放牧、耕作和伐树等人为干扰对群落时空分布也有显著影响.一般来说,生境条件较好的群落,人为干扰较严重.  相似文献

? Premise of the study: The Frullania tamarisci complex includes eight Holarctic liverwort species. One of these, F. asagrayana, is distributed broadly throughout eastern North America from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Preliminary genetic data suggested that the species includes two groups of populations. This study was designed to test whether the two groups are reproductively isolated biological species. ? Methods: Eighty-eight samples from across the range of F. asagrayana, plus 73 samples from one population, were genotyped for 13 microsatellite loci. Sequences for two plastid loci and nrITS were obtained from 13 accessions. Genetic data were analyzed using coalescent models and Bayesian inference. ? Key results: Frullania asagrayana is sequence-invariant at the two plastid loci and ITS2, but two clear groups were resolved by microsatellites. The two groups are largely reproductively isolated, but there is a low level of gene flow from the southern to the northern group. No gene flow was detected in the other direction. A local population was heterogeneous but displayed strong genetic structure. ? Conclusions: The genetic structure of F. asagrayana in eastern North America reflects morphologically cryptic differentiation between reproductively isolated groups of populations, near-panmixis within groups, and clonal propagation at local scales. Reproductive isolation between groups that are invariant at the level of nucleotide sequences shows that caution must be exercised in making taxonomic and evolutionary inferences from reciprocal monophyly (or lack thereof) between putative species.  相似文献

Euryhaliotrema dontykoleos n. sp. (Monogenoidea, Polyonchoinea, Dactylogyridae) is described based on specimens collected from the gills of Pachyurus junki (Teleostei, Sciaenidae, Pachyurinae) in the Rio Tocantins and its tributaries, State of Tocantins, Brazil. The new species, the first species of Monogenoidea reported from a pachyurine, is easily differentiated from its congener by the presence of toothlike projections in the border of the vaginal opening and by having a trapezoidal anteromedial projection on the ventral bar. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that the new species is not a member of the clade that includes the Euryhaliotrema spp. from Plagioscion spp., a second lineage of freshwater sciaenids in South America. Euryhaliotrema dontykoleos shares an immediate ancestor with the clade formed by parasites infecting marine Paralonchurus spp., (Sciaenidae), and those of Plagioscion spp.  相似文献

Section of Integrative Biology, University of Texas at Austin, Austin TX 78713 USA Understanding the phylogenetic relationships among species of Aulacoseira Thwaites (formerly Melosira, in part) and their relationships to other genera is important for several reasons. Aulacoseira is globally distributed and is often a large component of planktonic communities in lakes, ponds and large rivers. Consequently, it plays a significant ecological role as a primary producer in grazer-based aquatic food webs. Although species of Aulacoseira (along with other diatom species) are used profitably as tools for reconstruction of paleo-environments, ecological monitoring, and other ecological studies which have generated a large amount of data, much of this data is not really informative for a systematic understanding of the group. There are currently around 60 extant and 20 extinct described species of Aulacoseira. However, there is no estimate of phylogeny within this genus that includes more than five species. Here we present the first comprehensive estimate of phylogeny for 30 species of Aulacoseira based on a cladistic analysis of morphological features gathered from the literature. Complications of gathering morphological data from the literature that was largely focused on refining species identifications for practical purposes of ecological identification will be addressed. Morphological characters chosen for the analysis and challenges associated with coding of characters will be discussed along with the resulting Aulacoseira phylogeny and our methods of its estimation.  相似文献

Four strains belonging to the Peronosporomycetes (formerly Oomycetes) were isolated from white nodules found on the mantle of three species of abalone. In artificial seawater, the four isolates formed fragments such as in the genus Haliphthoros, but the protoplasm constriction was weaker, and fragments were longer, with smaller spaces between them, than those of Haliphthoros. The four strains form one or more discharge tubes from each zoosporangium. The four strains were similar, but not identical, to the genus Haliphthoros based on morphological characteristics. As a result, the four isolates were classified in a new genus and species, Halioticida noduliformans gen. et sp. nov. Phylogenetic analysis of the D1/D2 region of the large subunit ribosomal RNA gene (LSU rDNA) was performed, and the four isolates showed 100%–99.8% concordance. In the phylogenetic tree, the four isolates were not classified in the subclass Peronosporomycetidae, Saprolegniomycetidae, or Rhipidiomycetidae. However, the four isolates formed a new clade with genera Haliphthoros and Halocrusticida in Peronosporomycetes. Within this new clade, the four isolates, Haliphthoros spp. and Halocrusticida spp., were grouped in their respective independent subclades. These results showed that these were the new genus and species from the morphological characteristics.  相似文献

拟木蠹蛾Arbela spp.是华南地区严重影响人工林质量和稳定性的一类钻蛀害虫。本研究以广东省东江林场20个乡土阔叶树种人工幼林为研究对象,调查分析拟木蠹蛾对不同树种的为害状况及其与林木生长的关系。结果表明:7 a生时共有5个树种受到拟木蠹蛾为害,分别为西南桦Betula alnoides、海南红豆Ormosia pinnata、山杜英Elaeocarpus sylvestris、翻白叶Potentilla fulgens和楝叶吴茱萸Evodia glabrifolia,8 a生时新增1个受害树种——秋枫Bischofia javanica;受害树种生长表现和感虫情况均差异显著(P0.05),但种内感虫个体生长表现与未感虫个体差异不显著(P0.05);这些受害树种的虫口高度分布范围不同,生长较快的翻白叶和西南桦,其虫口主要分布在树冠以下,生长速度中等的海南红豆和山杜英的虫口分别集中在树冠下缘附近和树冠下缘上部,生长较慢的楝叶吴茱萸和秋枫的虫口则分别多在树冠下缘附近及其下部和树冠下缘及其上部,据此初步提出以枝下高作为主要参考指标分析其虫口高度分布特征。研究结果补充完善了拟木蠹蛾发生规律和为害特征方面的资料,且为该区域营建混交林的树种选择提供参考。  相似文献
