Developmental rates for Copidosoma koehleri Blanchard (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) and its host, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller), were determined at 10, 15, 23, 27, 29, 32, 34 and 35°C from host egg to adult. The developmental rates determined for both species showed good fit to mathematical models of insect development. At 15°C mean emergence of adult C. koehleri was 15 days after P. operculella adults emerged. At 29°C mean emergence of C. koehleri was only 5 days after that of P. operculella. P. operculella developed at 35°C, but parasitized larvae, and therefore C. koehleri, did not tolerate temperatures above 32°C. In the presence of C. koehleri, host survival was low (3%) at low host egg densities, but greater (20%) at higher host densities. Parasitized larvae of P. operculella were less able to compete for food resources, as measured by adult emergence.  相似文献

Stethorus japonicusKamiya (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is an indigenous ladybird beetle in Japan, which feeds on many spider mite species. We evaluated the development, survivorship and life-history parameters of this lady beetle on a diet of eggs of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (red form) (Acari: Tetranychidae). In addition, the effect of short photoperiod on its reproduction was assessed. Survival rates from egg to adult were more than 71% at temperatures between 17.5 and 30 °C. The highest immature mortality was 100% at 35 °C followed by 76% at 15 °C and 52% at 32.5 °C. The lower threshold temperature for development from egg to egg-laying adult was 13.0 °C and the thermal constant was calculated as 238.7° days. Based on these data, the maximum number of generations that could complete development in a year under field conditions in Ibaraki, central Japan, would be between five and seven. The intrinsic rates of natural increase (rm) were 0.093 at 20 °C, 0.156 at 25 °C and 0.241 at 30 °C. Reproductive diapause was induced at photoperiods with light phases shorter than 13 h at 18 °C.  相似文献

Preimaginal development, mortality, aphid consumption rate, and size and weight upon reaching the adult stage of the aphidophagous coccinellids Hippodamia convergens Guérin-Méneville and Coccinella septempunctata L. collected from Karditsa, central Greece, were examined at four constant temperatures (14, 17, 20 and 23 °C) and L16:D8. The coccinellids fed on the tobacco aphid, Myzus persicae nicotianae Blackman. Egg, larval and pupal mortality was highest at 14 °C reaching 85.0, 73.8 and 29.4% in H. convergens and 49.3, 75.4 and 58.8% in C. septempunctata, respectively. Total preimaginal development ranged from 57.2 to 70.4 days at 14 °C, and to 16.9 and 22.1 days at 23 °C in H. convergens and C. septempunctata, respectively. Heavier and larger adults of H. convergens were obtained at 17 and 20 ° C. In C. septempunctata temperature did not affect adult weight while the lowest size was observed at 14 and 17 °C. Day-degrees requirements for preimaginal development in H. corvengens were 212.9 above a developmental threshold of 11.0 °C. The corresponding values for C. septempunctata were 281.5 and 10.7 °C. In H. convergens total and daily aphid consumption ranged from 46.8 aphids at 14 °C to 85.0 aphids at 23 °C and from 1.5 aphids at 14 °C to 9.2 aphids at 23 °C, respectively. The corresponding values for C. septempunctata were 112.0 and 2.7 at 14 °C and 157.7 and 12.4 at 23 °C. The results show the high potential of both predators as biological control agents against the tobacco aphid. The knowledge obtained could be essential for their appropriate use and for the improvement of mass rearing systems.  相似文献

The predatory mite Iphiseius degenerans (Berlese) is commercially available as a biological control agent of thrips and spider mites in greenhouse crops. Developmental duration and immature survival of I. degeneransreared on nine types of food (almond pollen, apple pollen, castor bean pollen, plum pollen, sweet pepper pollen, Tetranychus urticaeKoch, Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande), Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs and Artemia franciscana Kellogg cysts) and on three substrates (Multicel, sweet pepper leaf, and bean leaf) were determined in the laboratory. All experiments were carried out at 25 °C. On Multicel, mean developmental times on pollen ranged from 6.0 to 7.1 days, with the lowest value recorded on almond pollen and the highest on sweet pepper pollen. When reared on castor bean pollen significantly longer developmental times were obtained on a sweet pepper leaf compared to a bean leaf or Multicel. Developmental duration when offered T. urticaeon Multicel ranged between 6.1 and 6.9 days, on a bean leaf development was completed in 8.0 days. The longest developmental times on Multicel were recorded on Ephestia eggs (7.0 days) and on decapsulated Artemia cysts (7.5 days). No development beyond the protonymphal stage occurred in the absence of food or when encapsulated Artemia cysts or thrips larvae were offered on Multicel. On a sweet pepper leaf and a bean leaf, respectively 6.7 and 10.0% of the eggs reached adulthood when thrips larvae were provided as food; developmental times recorded here, were 9.0 and 8.3 days. Overall, immature mortality occurred mainly in the protonymphal stage and ranged from 0.0 to 36.7%. In conclusion, I. degenerans is able to feed on a variety of natural and unnatural foods, but thrips larvae and sweet pepper pollen are unfavourable food for immature development. This could compromise the establishment of this biological control agent when used against thrips in sweet pepper crops.  相似文献

The ability of 17 strains of genus Epidermophyton (15 strains belonging to Epidermophyton floccosum, one to E. floccosum var. nigricans and one to E. stockdaleae) to grow at different temperatures (4 °C, 25 °C, 28 °C, 31 °C, 34 °C, 37 °C and 40 °C) was stated. The strains were inoculated on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and regularly controled over a period of 14 days when the plates were incubated at 25 °C, 28 °C, 31 °C, 34 °C, 37 °C and 40 °C, and over a period of 70 days when the temperature was 4 °C. The optimal growth of E. floccosum was observed at 28 °C and 31 °C, and no signs of growth were recorded neither at 4 °C nor at 40 °C. The optimal development of E. stockdaleae was observed at 25 °C and 28 °C. This species grew from 4 °C to 31 °C.  相似文献

Development, survival, reproduction and population growth statistics of apterous virginoparae of woolly apple aphid, Eriosoma lanigerum (Hausmann) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) at constant temperatures of 10, 13, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 32°C are reported. The developmental times of all life stages were inversely related to temperature ranging from 10 to 30°C. Span of total development (time from birth to adulthood) decreased from 57.8 days at 10°C to 11.7 days at 30°C and increased to 16.8 days at 32°C. A good linear model fit (R2>0.96) between developmental rate and temperature in the range 10–25°C was observed for all life stages. The lower developmental threshold was estimated at 5.8°C for instar I, 4.8°C for instar II, 4.9° for instar III and 4.4°C for instar IV. The lower temperature threshold for total development was estimated at 5.2°C. The upper developmental limit was found to be 32°C. Mean degree-day accumulations required for completion of instars I, II, III, IV and total development were: 125.6, 51.0, 47.7, 50.7 and 267.6, respectively. Fecundity, larviposition period and adult longevity were reduced with increasing temperature. Net reproductive rate was greatest at 15°C whereas intrinsic rate of increase peaked at 25°C. Optimal performance, as measured by fecundity, survival and intrinsic rate of increase, ocurred in the range 13–25°C.  相似文献

Thirty New England dog whelks (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Nassariidae), Nassarius trivittatus, were tested as a group for 3 days in a long linear gradient trough encompassing a thermal gradient ranging from 5°C to 45°C. The modal thermal preferendum of the snails lay between 30°C and 35°C. The lowest temperature interval voluntarily occupied by the snails was 15–20°C, the highest 35–40°C. W e believe this to be the first published study of temperature preference and avoidance behavior of gastropod molluscs.  相似文献

Development rates were determined for three pteromalid parasitoids of houseflies under constant and varying temperatures from 15 to 35°C.Muscidifurax raptorGirault and Sanders was the fastest developing species, with females completing development in 13.8 days at 32.5°C and 66.5 days at 15°C.Spalangia geminaBoucek females completed development in 20.8 days at 30.0°C and 161 days at 15.0°C, whereasS. cameroniPerkins females completed development in 20.6 days at 30.0°C and 155.5 days at 15.0°C. Male development times were 90.3% of those for femaleS. geminaand 92.7 and 88.6% of those for femaleS. cameroniandM. raptor, respectively. Parasitoid survival was very low at 35°C for all species and noSpalangiasurvived constant exposure to 15.0°C. Exposure to these lethal temperatures for shorter periods indicated that the parasitoids can tolerate them well under conditions more typical of the field. Development rates were modeled using biophysical and degree-day models and the models were tested for their ability to predict development under fluctuating conditions (24–36°C). Neither model was superior for all three species because of interspecific differences in the parasitoids' responses to high temperatures. Agreement between predicted and observed development times for all three species was achieved by small empirical adjustments of a key parameter in the biophysical model.  相似文献

The effect of temperature on thedevelopment of Rhyzobius lophanthae Blaisdell(Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) fed on Aspidiotusnerii Bouché (Homoptera: Diaspididae) undercontrolled laboratory conditions was studied. Theduration of each developmental stage and adultlongevity were measured at 15, 20, 25, and30 °C. The life cycle of R. lophanthae(from egg to oviposition) lasted 78.7, 43.6, 32.1, and 23.9 days, whereas theaverage adult longevity was 257.6, 171.4, 121.3, and88.5 days at each temperature, respectively. Lowtemperature thresholds of R. lophanthae immaturelife stages ranged from 7.6 to 9.3 °C, while thethermal constant for the development of R. lophanthaefrom egg to adult was 443.5 degree-days. The average fecundity at 25 °C was633.7 eggs per female. Rhyzobius lophanthaereared in cages outdoors during 1993–1995 at Kifissia,Athens developed 5 complete overlapping generationsper year from May to October and a 6th partialoverlapping generation during February and March.Adults of the 4th and 5th generation survived winterconditions giving rise to the following year's 1stgeneration. Females were reproductively activethroughout the year, indicating that R.lophanthae does not diapause.  相似文献

Development and fecundity of Scymnus levaillanti(Mulsant) were recorded at fiveconstant temperatures ranging from 15 to 35 ± 1 °C in 5 °C increments, 60 ± 5% RHand 16 h of artificial light (5000 Lux). Developmentaltime (egg to adult) of S. levaillantisignificantly decreased with increasing temperatures, ranging from 63.9 days at 15 °C to 11.1 days at35 °C. Development from egg to adult required305.2 DD above a developmental threshold estimated as11.7 °C. Oviposition periods lasted 86.5, 76.1,47.2, and 31.5 days at 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C,respectively. No eggs were deposited at 15 °C.Higher temperatures resulted in shorter generationtimes (TO) and in decreased net reproductiverates (RO) of the coccinellid. S.levaillanti kept at 30 °C produced 0.151females/female/day, the highest per capita rate ofpopulation growth (rm). The `functional response'of larvae and adults of S. levaillanti matcheswell that described by Holling (1959) as Type 2.Daily number of eggs deposited by females increased toa plateau with increasing prey density. Resultsobtained here provide information about the biology ofS. levaillanti, and its feeding capacityindicates that it may act as an important control agent.  相似文献

The life table and biological characteristics of the predatory bug Macrolophus pygmaeus Rambur (Hemiptera: Miridae) were studied when the bugs were fed with Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Homoptera: Aphididae) feeding on eggplant and with Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) feeding on tomato plants. The tests were done at five temperatures between 15 and 30 °C, using a L16:D8 photoperiod and 65 ± 5% r.h. Most eggs (range 85 to 90%) hatched at 15 and 20 °C. Incubation period was shortest at 27.5 °C (8.45 and 8.38 days on eggplant and tomato, respectively). Preoviposition was also shortest at 27.5 °C (5.10 and 4.75 days on eggplant and tomato, respectively) whereas fecundity was highest at 20 °C (213.90 and 228.25 eggs on eggplant and tomato, respectively). Maximum longevity of females was at 15 °C (122.40 and 129.35 days on eggplant and tomato, respectively). Mean generation time was longest at 15 °C on both host plants (122.75 and 124.64 days, respectively). The intrinsic rate of increase of M. pygmaeus was highest at 27.5 °C with similar values on eggplant (0.0981 day–1) and tomato (0.1040 day–1). Doubling time was shortest at 27.5 °C (7.06 and 6.67 days on eggplant and tomato, respectively) and, also, finite rate of increase was highest at 27.5 °C (1.1031 and 1.1096 on eggplant and tomato, respectively). The results show that the predator M. pygmaeus develops well on the aphid M. persicae or on the whitefly T. vaporariorum, both of which are important pests of vegetable crops. This predator is also well adapted to the temperatures that occur both in greenhouses and in the open field in the Mediterranean region. Compared to other natural enemies of whiteflies, such as Encarsia formosa Gahan (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), Macrolophus pygmaeus can increase at relatively low temperatures.  相似文献

A psychrophilic bacterium, Pseudomonas syringae (Lz4W) from Antarctica, was used as a model system to establish a correlation, if any, between thermal adaptation, trans-fatty acid content and membrane fluidity. In addition, attempts were made to clone and sequence the cti gene of P. syringae (Lz4W) so as to establish its characteristics with respect to the cti of other Pseudomonas spp. and also to in vitro mutagenize the cti gene so as to generate a cti null mutant. The bacterium showed increased proportion of saturated and trans-monounsaturated fatty acids when grown at 28°C compared to cells grown at 5°C, and the membrane fluidity decreased with growth temperature. In the mutant, the trans-fatty acid was not synthesized, and the membrane fluidity also decreased with growth temperature, but the decrease was not to the extent that was observed in the wild-type cells. Thus, it would appear that synthesis of trans-fatty acid and modulation of membrane fluidity to levels comparable to the wild-type cells is essential for growth at higher temperatures since the mutant exhibits growth arrest at 28°C. In fact, the cti null mutant-complemented strain of P. syringae (Lz4W-C30b) that was capable of synthesizing the trans-fatty acid was indeed capable of growth at 28°C, thus confirming the above contention. The cti gene of P. syringae (Lz4W) that was cloned and sequenced exhibited high sequence identity with the cti of other Pseudomonas spp. and exhibited all the conserved features.  相似文献

The aim of this study was todetermine the biology and reproductivepotential of Euseius scutalis(Athias-Henriot) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) atvarious temperatures. These data are of valuein relation to mass rearing and the developmentof population dynamics models. The developmenttime, survival and fecundity of E.scutalis were determined at 20, 25 and30 ± 1 °C, 65 ± 10% RH and 16:8photoperiod. Total development times of E.scutalis were 6.7, 4.9 and 4.2 days at 20, 25and 30 ± 1 °C, respectively, using adiet of all life stages of the spider mite Panonychus citri (McGregor) (Acari:Tetranychidae). In general, preoviposition andpostoviposition periods of E. scutaliswere shortened as temperature increased, butthe oviposition period was longer at 25 °C than at 20 and 30 °C. Theshortest survival time of E. scutalis, at30 °C, was 10.1 days, followed by 23.7days and 28.6 days at 20 and 25 °C,respectively. Mated females laid on average1.1, 1.4 and 1.7 eggs per female per day and21.5, 39.7 and 17.1 eggs over their entire lifetime at 20, 25 and 30 °C, respectively. The sex ratios of E. scutalis were2.11/1, 2.24/1 and 2.11/1 female/male at 20, 25and 30 °C, respectively. The intrinsicrate of natural increase (r m) increasedwith rising temperatures from 0.166 at 20 °C to 0.295 females/female/day at 30 °C. The net reproductive rate (R 0)was highest at 25 °C (26.03females/female) and lowest at 30 °C(12.95 females/female). Mean generation time(T 0) was longest at 25 °C (17.50days) and shortest (9.53 days) at 30 °C.  相似文献

The effect of calcium and zinc ions on superoxide dismutase (SOD) from four plant species (Taxus baccata, Pinus sylvestris, Medicago rigidula, and Zea mays) was followed at three temperatures: optimal (20 °C), increased (50 °C), and high, inhibiting temperature (70 – 80 °C). At 20 and 50 °C in vitro added calcium increases SOD activity, but the degree was different for the plants investigated. The effect of zinc ions at the same temperatures varied in the investigated plants from activation to inhibition. An inhibiting effect of high temperature on SOD activity was diminished in the presence of calcium or zinc ions. It was shown that calcium and zinc ions can increase activity and thermostabilize different SOD isoforms.  相似文献

The effect of temperature, humidity and photoperiod on the development of Neozygites cf. floridana (Weiser and Muma) in the cassava green mite, Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar) was studied in the laboratory. Dead infected mites began to appear 2.5 days after inoculation. At 33 and 28°C peak mortalities were higher and occurred earlier (after 2.5 days), than at 23 and 18°C. Mean LT50 (time for half the infected mites to die) decreased with increasing temperature as follows: 3.9, 3.0, 2.9 and 2.5 days at 18, 23, 28 and 33°C, respectively. When placed under conditions of high relative humidity for a period of 24 h, the percentage of dead infected mites from which the fungus sporulated was highest at 28°C (51.4%) and lowest at 33°C (6.5%). The development of the fungus inside the mite was not significantly affected by ambient humidity or photoperiod. No significant interactions between tested factors were found.  相似文献

The effect of temperature on the development of immature stages of the predator Cheyletus malaccensis Oudemans, produced by either fertilized or virgin females, was studied at 17.5, 20, 25, 30, 32.5, and 35°C, 80 ± 5% relative humidity, in complete darkness, and fed Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank). The population maintained at 15°C failed to reproduce. The thermal data obtained were used for the estimation of the thermal requirements (developmental thresholds, thermal constant, optimum temperature) of this predator by a linear and nonlinear model (Logan type I model). Upper and lower developmental thresholds ranged between 37.4–37.8 and 11.6–12.0°C, respectively. Optimum temperature for development was estimated at between 33.1 and 33.5°C. The thermal constant ranged between 238.1 and 312.5 degree-days. Based on the data of the total pre-imaginal period, immatures’ survival peaked at 25°C. Arrhenotokous parthenogenesis (haplodiploidy) is confirmed in the species: virgin females always produce males, whereas fertilized females give rise to offspring of both sexes. Survival of the immature stages and offspring sex ratio were not significantly influenced by temperature.  相似文献

Summary 1) When a thermal gradient (20–40° C) was established along a laboratory nest, Camponotus mus nurse workers showed a photoperiodic circadian rhythm of temperature preferences for brood rearing. Two different temperatures were daily selected to translocate the brood, i.e. 30.8° C selected at the middle of the photophase, and 27.5° C selected during the scotophase, 8 h later. 2) The daily temperature response of nurse workers consisted of paired high and low-temperature translocations, with a 8 hs-interval in between: high-temperature translocation was shown to be entrained by the photophase length, whereas low-temperature translocation was shown to be dependent on the precedent one. 3) Prey deprivation to the colony modified the brood transport behaviors resulting in translocations of only cocoons and large (ripe) larvae, stages in which the pupation processes are triggered. Small larvae and eggs remained located at 27.5° C. 4) Evaluation of pupa developmental time as well as percentage of pupa mortality at different temperature regimes allowed to construct an efficiency index relating pupa survival and cocoon developmental time. In the range of temperatures selected by nurses, the index reached its maximal values. 5) The ecological significance of these results is discussed.  相似文献

The development and survival of female Neoceratitis cyanescens (Bezzi) (Diptera: Tephritidae) from egg to complete ovarian maturation were studied in the laboratory at five different constant temperatures: 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 °C. The aim of this study was to get information on the influence of temperature on pre-mature stages, as a prerequisite to optimise rearing procedures and to understand temporal and geographical patterns of fruit fly occurrence. The developmental rate of the different life stages increased linearly with increasing temperatures up to 30 °C. The fastest development of pre-mature stages was recorded at 30 °C (22±1 days) and the slowest at 15 °C (98±3 days). The day-degrees requirements (K) to complete total development were 432.6 day-degrees. Lower temperature thresholds were 11.4, 11.9, 10.0, and 11.1 °C for egg, larval, pupal stages and ovarian maturation, respectively. The number of adults obtained from an initial batch of 100 eggs reached a maximum (64) at 25 °C. At 35 °C, no adults emerged. Larval developmental time was significantly shorter in green tomato fruits than in potato tubers at 15, 20, and 25 °C. Mortality rate of larvae was higher in green tomato fruits than in potato tubers at 25 and 30 °C.  相似文献

An improvement of the protocol for haploid induction through anther culture of Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan. cv. Nules was achieved following the evaluation of a number of the factors affecting androgenesis. The influence of thidiazuron (TDZ) and three temperature pre-treatments (4°C, 25°C, 32°C) on the floral buds with respect to anther culture of C. clementina Hort. ex Tan., cv. Nules was investigated. An increased embryoid production was induced in the medium supplemented with TDZ. Pre-treatment temperatures of 4°C and 25°C were more favorable for embryo production than 32°C. Regeneration of androgenic haploid plantlets from cv. SRA 63 of C. clementina is reported here for the first time.Abbreviations 6-BA 6-Benzylaminopurine - 2,4-D 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid - GA3 Gibberellic acid - KI Kinetin - NAA -Naphthaleneacetic acid - TDZ Thidiazuron (N-phenyl-1,2,3,-thi-diazol-5-ylurea) - ZEA Zeatin Communicated by L.
