- 2. 2. During exercise with inhalation of supersaturated relative to low-air-humidity air, a significant elevation in tympanic temperature (P = 0.009) and a significant decrease in esophageal temperature (P = 0.004) were observed.
- 3. 3. Forehead skin temperatures significantly decreased during humidified air inhalation (P = 0.02) supporting that this treatment induced greater thermolytic responses that cooled the skin.
- 4. 4. The results are consistent with the conclusion that heat loss from the upper airways directly influenced human cerebral temperatures as indexed by tympanic temperatures.

doi: 10.1111/j.1741‐2358.2012.00638.x Effects of the head lift exercise on the swallow function: a systematic review Objective: Ageing is associated with modifications in upper oesophageal sphincter function that may be deleterious to deglutition. The head lift exercise (Shaker exercise) is a head‐raising work out aiming to improve the opening of this segment, and ultimately to reduce aspiration. We aimed to review critically the evidence on the effects of this structured intervention programme and to identify gaps to be filled by future research. Material and Methods: We identified published reports addressing the effect of this exercise in increasing the anteroposterior diameter and cross‐sectional area of the deglutitive upper oesophageal sphincter opening or dysphagic symptoms. Results: Nine methodologically heterogeneous studies were included in the review, and the reported effects of the head lift exercise were an increase in the anterior excursion of the larynx and in the anteroposterior diameter of the upper oesophageal sphincter opening, and the elimination of dysphagic symptoms. Conclusion: Further studies including control groups and accounting for potential confounders are needed for a sound assessment of the effectiveness of this technique. The data on the functional results are, however, promising for dysphagia interventions. 相似文献

This study investigated the question: is core temperature measurement influenced by whether exercise involves predominantly
upper- or lower-body musculature? Healthy men were allocated to three groups: treadmill ergometry (T) n=4, cycle ergometry (C) n=6 and arm crank ergometry (AC) n=5. Subjects underwent an incremental exercise test to exhaustion on an exercise-specific ergometer to determine maximum/peak
oxygen consumption ( V˙O 2max). One week later subjects exercised for 36 min on the same ergometer at approximately 65% V˙O 2max while temperatures at the rectum ( T
re) and esophagus ( T
es) were simultaneously measured. The V˙O 2max (l · min −1) for groups T [4.76 (0.50)] and C [4.35 (0.30)] was significantly higher than that for the AC group [2.61 (0.24)]. At rest,

re was significantly higher than T
es in all groups ( P<0.05). At the end of submaximal exercise in the C group, T
re [38.32 (0.11)°C] was significantly higher than T
es [38.02 (0.12)°C, P<0.05]. No significant differences between T

This investigation evaluated the influence of metabolic alkalosis on plasma ammonia (NH 3) accumulation during incremental exercise. On two occasions separated by at least 6 days, six healthy men cycled at 70, 80, and 90%g of maximum oxygen consumption (
) for 5 min; each exercise period was followed by 5 min of seated recovery. Exercise was then performed at 100%
until exhaustion. Beginning 3 h prior to exercise, subjects ingested 3.6 mmol · kg body mass – NaHCO 3 (test, T) or 3.0 mmol · kg body mass –1 CaCO 3 (placebo, P) (both equivalent to 0.3 g · kg –1) over a 2-h period. Trials were performed after an overnight fast and the order of treatments was randomized. Arterialized venous blood samples for the determination of acid-base status, blood lactate and plasma NH 3 concentrations were obtained at rest before treatment, 15 s prior to each exercise bout (Pre 70%, Pre 80%, Pre 90%, and Pre 100%), and at 0, 5 (5Post), and 10 (10'Post) min after exhaustion. Additional samples for blood lactate and plasma NH 3 determination were obtained immediately after each exercise bout (Post 70%, Post 80%, Post 90%) and at 15 min after exercise (15Post). was not significantly different between treatments [mean (SE): 173 (42) s and 184 (44) s for T and P respectively]. A significant treatment effect was observed for plasma pH with values being significantly higher on T than on P Pre 70% [7.461 (0.007) vs 7.398 (0.008)], Pre 90% [7.410 (0.010) vs 7.340 (0.016)], and 10'Post [7.317 (0.032) vs 7.242 (0.036)]. The change in plasma pH was significantly greater following the 90%g bout (Pre 100% Pre 90%) for T [–0.09 (0.02)] than for P [–0.06 (0.01)]. Blood base excess and plasma bicarbonate concentrations were significantly higher for T than P before each exercise bout but not at the point of exhaustion. During recovery, base excess was higher for T than P at 5Post and 10Post while the bicarbonate concentration was higher for T than P at 10Post. A significant treatment effect was observed for the blood lactate concentration with T on the average being higher than P [7.0 (1.0) and 6.3 (1.1) mmol · l –1 for T and P averaged across the 12 sampling times]. Plasma NH 3 accumulation was not different between treatments at any point in time. In addition, no differences were observed between treatments in blood alanine accumulation. The results suggest that under the conditions of the present investigation metabolic alkalosis does not influence plasma NH 3 accumulation or endurance capacity during intense incremental exercise. 相似文献

1. 1. Ten guinea-pigs with hypothalamic and subcutaneous interscapular thermocouples ran up to exhaustion at 1.5 km/h. Blood lactate concentrations were determined before and after exercise. Four animals exercised at constant ambient temperatures of 15 and 35°C and six other animals ran at variable ambient temperatures, adjusted to stabilize their hypothalamic temperature at 39.5, 40.5 and 41.5°C. 2. 2. Ambient temperature did not influence exercise performance directly. Duration of running was inversely proportional to hypothalamic temperature. There were no correlations between lactate concentration and exercise performance nor between lactate concentration and body temperatures. 3. 3. The results suggest a progressive decrease in exercise performance occurs with increasing body temperature.

目的:探究慢性阻塞性肺疾病(COPD)患者呼吸困难与呼吸驱动及呼吸肌功能之间的关系.方法:对31例COPD患者和26例正常对照者分别检测静息常规肺功能、肺弥散功能(DLCO)、口腔阻断压(P0.1)、最大吸气压(PImax)及最大呼气压(PEmax),并进行运动负荷试验观测氧耗量(VO2)、二氧化碳产生量(VCO2)、分钟通气量(VE)、潮气量(VT)等气体代谢指标,受试者呼吸困难感的评价采用呼吸困难指数(BS)表示.运动负荷前、后检测动脉血气分析.结果:①COPD组患者PImax(5.33±1.95)kPa明显低于正常人组(7.02±2.53)kPa(P<0.05),PEmax在两组中无明显差别(P>0.05),COPD组患者P0 1(0.37±0.12)kPa明显高于正常人组(0.26±0.09)kPa(P<0.05),P0.1/PImax(0.069±0.021)也明显高于正常人组(0.037±0.009)(P<0.01).②COPD组患者极量负荷时BS与P0.1及PImax未发现明显的相关关系(P>0.05),但与P0 1/PImax明显正相关(r=0.48,P<0.05),且运动前后BS的变化(△BS)与P0.1/PImax亦明显正相关(r=0.44,P<0.05).结论:COPD患者运动负荷时呼吸困难的产生除与残气的增加及弥散障碍等有关外,呼吸驱动调节异常及呼吸肌功能障碍也是引起其呼吸困难的重要因素. 相似文献

A series of 16 experiments, using a total of 2,000 BD 6 rats, was designed in order to assess the ability of 8 individual agents or their combinations to modulate the liver and oesophageal carcinogenesis induced by multiple doses of diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Of the antioxidants tested, sodium selenite, ascorbic acid, and butylated hydroxytoluence generally exhibited protective effects on both types of tumors. In contrast, retinoic acid behaved as a promoter of DEN hepatocarcinogenesis, but this effect could be eliminated by its combination with either selenite or butylated hydroxytoluene. Caffeine and theophyline, when individually assayed, were devoid of significant protective effects, and the later methylxanthine stimulated oesophageal tumorigenesis when administered afer exposure to the carcinogen. Caffeine tended to decrease tje multiplicityof tumors and potentiated the inhibitory effect of selenite in the liver. Irrespective of combination with caffeine, treatment with phwnobarbital before each DEN injection tended to reduce the multiplicity of both liver and oesophageal tumors. On the other hand, the metabolic inhibitoe diethyldithiocarbamate, given after each DEN injection, dramatically enhancedd the incidence and multiplicity of oesophageal tumors. Thus, on the whole, modulation of DEN carcinogenesis varied depending on test agents, their conbinations, dosages, treatment schedules, and target organ. 相似文献

Sweat production is crucial for thermoregulation. However, sweating can be problematic for individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI), as they display a blunting of sudomotor and vasomotor responses below the level of the injury. Sweat gland density and eccrine gland metabolism in SCI are not well understood. Consequently, this study examined sweat lactate (S-LA) (reflective of sweat gland metabolism), active sweat gland density (SGD), and sweat output per gland (S/G) in 7 SCI athletes and 8 able-bodied (AB) controls matched for arm ergometry VO 2peak. A sweat collection device was positioned on the upper scapular and medial calf of each subject just prior to the beginning of the trial, with iodine sweat gland density patches positioned on the upper scapular and medial calf. Participants were tested on a ramp protocol (7 min per stage, 20 W increase per stage) in a common exercise environment (21±1°C, 45-65% relative humidity). An independent t-test revealed lower (p<0.05) SGD (upper scapular) for SCI (22.3 ±14.8 glands · cm −2) vs. AB. (41.0 ± 8.1 glands · cm −2). However, there was no significant difference for S/G between groups. S-LA was significantly greater (p<0.05) during the second exercise stage for SCI (11.5±10.9 mmol · l −1) vs. AB (26.8±11.07 mmol · l −1). These findings suggest that SCI athletes had less active sweat glands compared to the AB group, but the sweat response was similar (SLA, S/G) between AB and SCI athletes. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential variations in cardiorespiratory and metabolic parameters and running performance among 3 modes of exercise of the same duration, namely, intermittent running with active recovery (AR) or passive recovery (PR) and continuous running (CR) and whether these variations could affect passive recovery time (PRT). Fifteen male physical education students with a subspecialty in soccer were studied (mean age 22.3 ± 2.5 years, training experience 12.3 ± 2.5 years) in the middle of the playing season. The results showed that during exercise, the highest heart rate (HR) and VO2 values were observed in CR, whereas the lowest values in PR followed by AR. Blood lactate (BLa) concentration was higher in PR by 38% compared to that in AR (p < 0.05). The exercise duration was similar between PR and AR tests and longer than in CR. With regard to PRT, the highest HR (186 ± 9 b · min(-1)), VO2 (55.5 ± 5.2 ml · kg(-1) · min(-1)), and BLa (5.1 ± 1.7 mmol · L(-1)) values were found in CR. No differences in HR and VO2 between PR and AR were detected. However, despite the differences in BLa concentration between AR and PR during exercise, the PRT BLa values between these 2 exercise modes were not different. Among the 3 running protocols, only CR appeared to have fully challenged the cardiorespiratory system inducing maximal HR and VO2 responses during exercise and high BLa values in PRT, yet these responses were not associated with better exercise performance compared to intermittent running. Therefore, intermittent exercise, regardless of implementing passive or active interval, might be the preferable exercise mode particularly in activities extended over 30 minutes. 相似文献

The response of respiratory gas exchanges to a 6 week high intensity training program was examined in 5 healthy males during fixed term maximal incremental treadmill exercise. Training was performed 3 d.wk-1 and consisted of a progressive series of repeated 15 sec and 30 sec maximal runs, and weight training exercises for the leg extensor muscles. Respiratory gases during the tests were continuously monitored using an on-line system. Muscle biopsy samples were obtained from the m. vastus lateralis before and after training for histochemical determination of fibre distribution based on myosin ATP-ase activity, and fibre cross-sectional area based on NADH-Tetrazolium Reductase activity. Training significantly increased the proportion of type IIa fibres (+5.9 +/- 2.0%, p less than 0.001) and decreased type I fibres (-6.3 +/- 2.0%, p less than 0.001), the distribution of type IIb fibres remained unchanged (+0.4 +/- 0.9%). Muscle cross-sectional area also showed a significant increase after training in type I (+318 +/- 215 microns 2, p less than 0.05), IIa (+652 +/- 207 microns 2, p less than 0.001) and IIb (+773 +/- 196 microns 2, p less than 0.001) fibres. During fixed term maximal incremental exercise the mean carbon dioxide output (VCO2) and mean respiratory exchange ratio (R = VCO2/VO2) were significantly increased (p less than 0.01) after training. The R-time relationship was at all times shifted to the left after training, being significantly (p less than 0.01) so over the final five min of exercise. 目的: 探讨人体出汗的调节机制.方法: 在16℃和21℃两种环境温度下,8名受试者进行功率为20 W和40 W、持续10 min和20 min的运动,测量人体的出汗率、体温、心率、能量代谢率等指标,取实验最初的安静状态作为基础值.结果: 环境温度发生变化时,平均皮肤温度、直肠温度以及能量代谢率与人体出汗率同方向变化;在不同活动强度的上肢运动中,胸部皮肤温度、能量代谢率与出汗率的变化方向相同;运动功率20 W持续不同时间的运动,生理指标没有显著差异.但40 W运动20 min时的平均皮肤温度和出汗率明显高于运动10 min,其能量代谢率未出现相同的变化;胸部运动部位皮肤温度达到出汗阈值和由出汗量推测开始显性出汗在时间上是一致的,但运动中直肠温度没有出现与出汗率相同的变化;相关性检验的结果表明:胸部皮温(P<0.05)、能量代谢率(P<0.01)都与出汗率显著相关,后者与出汗率的相关性强于前者.将能量代谢率与出汗率进行指数函数的拟合,得到二者的关系方程.结论: 运动部位皮肤温度与人体出汗机制的启动关系紧密.出汗率预测模型的建立从代谢产热水平和环境温度方面考虑更为合理,也更方便实际使用. 相似文献

Summary Distribution of glycogen particles in semithin and ultrathin sections of biopsy samples from human muscles subjected to either short- or long-term running were investigated using PAS and Periodic Acid-ThioSemiCarbazide-Silver Proteinate (PA-TSC-SP) staining methods. Glycogen particles were predominantly found immediately under the sarcolemma or aligned along the myofibrillar Iband. After long-term exhaustive exercise type-1 fibers with a few or no glycogen particles in the core of the fibers were frequently observed. The subsarcolemmal glycogen stores of these depleted type-1 fibers were about three times as large as after exhaustive short-time exercise. Another indication of utilization of subsarcolemmal glycogen stores during anaerobic exercise was that many particles displayed a pale, rudimentary shape. This observation suggests fragmental metabolization of glycogen. Thus, depending on type of exercise and type of fiber differential and sequential glycogen utilization patterns can be observed. 相似文献

Nineteen healthy male subjects, differing in training status and Vo2max (52 +/- 1 ml.min-1.kg-1, mean +/- SEM; 43-64 ml.min-1.kg-1, range), exercised for 1 h at an absolute workload of 192 +/- 8 W (140-265 W); this was equivalent to 70 +/- 1% Vo2max (66-74%). Each exercise test was performed on an electrically braked cycle ergometer at a constant ambient temperature (22.5 +/- 0.0 degrees C) and relative humidity (85 +/- 0%). Nude body weight was recorded prior to and after each exercise test. Absolute sweat loss (body weight loss corrected for respiratory weight loss) during each test was 910 +/- 82 g (426-1665 g); this was equivalent to 1.3 +/- 0.1% (0.7-2.2%) of pre-exercise body weight (relative sweat loss). Weighted mean skin temperature and rectal temperature increased after 5 min of exercise from 30.5 +/- 0.3 degrees C and 37.2 +/- 0.1 degrees C respectively to 32.5 +/- 0.2 degrees C and 38.8 +/- 0.1 degrees C respectively, recorded immediately prior to the end of exercise. Bivariate linear regression and Pearson's correlation demonstrated absolute sweat loss was related to Vo2max (r = 0.72, p less than 0.001), absolute exercise workload (r = 0.66, p less than 0.01), body surface area (r = 0.62, p less than 0.01), weight (r = 0.60, p less than 0.01) and height (r = 0.53, p less than 0.05).
