Rice cultivar evaluation for phosphorus use efficiency   总被引:12,自引:1,他引:11  
Phosphorus deficiency is one of the most growth-limiting factors in acid soils in various parts of the world. The objective of this study was to screen 25 rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.) at low, medium, and high levels of soil P. Number of tillers, root length, plant height, root dry weight and shoot dry weight were related to tissue P concentrations, P uptake and P-use efficiency. Shoot weight was found to be the plant parameter most sensitive to P deficiency. Significant cultivar differences in P use efficiency were found. Phosphorus use efficiency was higher in roots than shoots and decreased with increasing levels of soil P. Positive correlations were found among growth parameters such as plant height, tillers, root and shoot weight, and P content of roots and shoots. These results indicate selection of rice cultivars for satisfactory performance under low P availability can be carried out using shoot and root dry weight as criteria.  相似文献

In order to study the genetic differentiation between Festuca rubra L. individuals growing in a heterogeneous environment, indices of salt tolerance, mean relative growth rates and the numbers of tillers formed by plants grown in a Hoagland solution, were determined. It was found that plants from salt marsh sites have a high index of salt tolerance, a high mean relative growth rate and numerous tillers; plants from coastal sand dunes are less tolerant, grow slowly and form few tillers; plants from the inland polder sites are rather salt sensitive, fast growing and form a high number of tillers. The heritability of the mean relative growth rate and the tiller number appeared to differ from zero. Apparently, these characters have been under recent selection and thus give a picture of the adaptations of individual plants to the different environments encountered. An indication of gene flow has been found, although the effect of gene flow seems to be small in the face of the force of selection. It was concluded that the distinction of three ecotypes within the species F. rubra is insufficient to describe the differentiation found. Considering the differences observed, it seems more reasonable to speak of ecotypic variation.  相似文献

根茎冰草(Agropyron michnoi)是典型的无性系禾草。在松嫩平原,根茎冰草的分蘖节最老为4龄,可存活5个年度。不同季节的放牧干扰可导致根茎冰草无性系种群分蘖株的年龄结构发生变化,全年放牧样地和夏秋休牧样地均为稳定型年龄结构,两个冬季放牧样地均为增长型年龄结构。1龄分蘖株的生产力和营养繁殖力力均最大。4龄分蘖株均已丧失了营养繁殖力。营养繁殖芽的年龄结构可以更好地预测预报无性系种群和群落的未来。全年放牧可保护稳定型年龄结构,冬季放牧可保持增长型年龄结构,夏秋休牧可使种群发展为增长型年龄结构,两个冬季放牧样地将仍然保持单优势种群落,全年放牧地将仍为混生群落,夏季林牧样地具有向着单优势种群落演替的潜在趋势。  相似文献

A method for estimating disease induced yield losses by using single wheat tillers as experimental units was evaluated under commercial field conditions. Natural epidemics of Septoria tritici blotch, yellow rust and leaf rust which developed late in the season had no effect on the vegetative growth of the host, but caused only reduced kernels weight. The optimal sample size was determined experimentally to be 300 tillers. Losses were also estimated in the same experiments using field plots as experimental units. Yield loss estimates derved from using single tillers were significantly correlated with those derived from using field plots. The relationship between disease and yield varied significantly among fields, even in a given year, region and cultivar. Thus, it was concluded that this relationship has to be established empirically wherever yield losses are to be estimated, and that under Israeli conditions it may be done by using the single tillers method.  相似文献

研究了不同基因型多样性(1、3、6三种基因型组合)羊草种群的地上生物量、地下生物量、分蘖数、根茎芽数和根冠比5个指标对干扰强度(用不同留茬高度来模拟)的响应。结果表明:(1)基因型多样性和干扰强度对地上生物量、地下生物量、分蘖数和根茎芽数均有显著影响(P0.05),但两者的交互作用不显著(P0.05)。其中,多基因型组合(3、6基因型组合)羊草种群中这4个响应变量的值均显著高于单基因型羊草种群(P0.05);而干扰强度的增加显著降低了这4个响应变量的值(P0.05)。对于根冠比这一响应变量来说,仅干扰强度对其产生了显著地影响(P0.05)。(2)29个基因型多样性效应值中,有25个值大于0,其中12个表现为显著的基因型多样性正效应。依Loreau和Hector的方法将多样性净效应分解后发现,互补效应和选择效应共同主导12个响应指标的基因型多样性效应,而互补效应独自主导3个、选择效应独自主导5个响应指标的基因多样性效应;但对基因型多样性正效应起主要贡献的是互补效应。所得结果表明,基因型多样性能提高羊草种群的表现,能增强羊草种群对干扰的响应,不同基因型间的互补作用对这种正效应起主要贡献,这将为该物种种质资源保护和合理利用提供理论指导。  相似文献

放牧是荒漠草原最主要的利用方式之一,载畜率的变化严重影响着植物的生长发育;而内源植物激素是调节植物生长发育的开关,且植物在不同的生长发育阶段具有不同的生理要求和环境适应能力。通过测定放牧条件下短花针茅(Stipa breviflora)分蘖叶内源激素的变化,研究短花针茅分蘖生长对放牧的响应,并分析了分蘖数量受内源激素影响的机制。结果表明,(1)内源激素与载畜率之间存在显著二次相关关系,说明放牧能够显著增加内源激素的浓度(P0.05),但这种相关只存在于中、小株丛的短花针茅中。(2)其次,放牧能够在一定程度上影响短花针茅植株个体分蘖的数量(P0.05),重度放牧是增加短花针茅植株个体分蘖数量最显著的载畜率。(3)过高浓度的生长素(IAA)会抑制短花针茅的分蘖数量(P0.01)。而细胞分裂素(CTK)与短花针茅的分蘖数量之间尚未发现相关关系。  相似文献

Summary Responses to clipping and bison grazing in different environmental contexts were examined in two perennial grass species, Andropogon gerardii and Panicum virgatum, on the Konza Prairie in northeastern Kansas. Grazed tillers had lower relative growth rates (RGR) than clipped tillers following defoliation but this difference was transient and final biomass was not affected by mode of defoliation. Grazed tillers of both species had higher RGR throughout the season than ungrazed tillers, resulting in exact compensation for tissue lost to defoliation. However, A. gerardii tillers which had been grazed repeatedly the previous year (1988) had reduced relative growth rates, tiller biomass and tiller survival in 1989. This suggests that the short-term increase in aboveground relative growth rates after defoliation had a cost to future plant growth and tiller survival.In general, the two species had similar responses to defoliation but their responses were altered differentially by fire. The increase in RGR following defoliation of A. gerardii was relatively greater on unburned than burned prairie, and was influenced by topographic position. P. virgatum responses to defoliation were similar in burned and unburned prairie. Thus grazing, fire, and topographical position all interact to influence tiller growth dynamics and these two species respond differently to the fire and grazing interaction. In addition, fire may interact with grazing pattern to influence a plants' grazing history and thus its long-term performance.  相似文献

Summary The performance of three experimental cultivars of Lolium perenne selected for yield or water soluble carbohydrate content was monitored over four generations of seed multiplication under relaxed selection. In each variety the selected trait regressed towards that of the base population from which the selection line derived. This could be accounted for by residual genetic variation within the lines for the selected trait, and in some instances, by association of this variation with the fitness character, seed numbers produced. These results emphasize the need for practical breeding programmes to consider the nature of the gene action controlling the selected trait, if additive, directional selection should be effective in increasing the expression of the character. Where ambidirectional dominance and epistasis are important, consideration should be given to means of achieving reassortment of the controlling genes prior to selection.  相似文献

The use of surrogate species in conservation planning has been applied with disappointing results on relatively large sets of species. It could still prove useful for optimizing conservation efforts when considering a small set of species with similar ecological requirements, however few field tests of this nature have been carried out. The aim of this research is to compare the response of three arboreal rodent species—the fat dormouse (Glis glis), the hazel dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) and the red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris)—to habitat loss and fragmentation, with the aim of identifying priorities for conservation and evaluating possible optimization of conservation efforts under different scenarios: habitat restoration and selection of focal patches. We studied the distribution of the three species in a sample of patches in a highly fragmented landscape in central Italy, using a patch-landscape scale approach. The distribution was studied by using hair tubes, nestboxes and nocturnal surveys. The three species showed analogous responses to increasing isolation and decreasing size of habitat patches; what differed however, was the magnitude of responses. Our results show possible application of surrogacy within this restricted group of species, however several caveats arise depending on the conservation strategy and available funding. If habitat restoration is the objective, then the fat dormouse should be the target species for guiding size and isolation of patches. On the other hand, the magnitude of the differences and patch requirements for this species, question the feasibility of these conservation actions. If selection of focal patches for conservation is the objective then selecting the fat dormouse as a focal/umbrella species would overlook areas suitable for the other two species. Feasible optimisation of conservation efforts may be possible only between the red squirrel and the hazel dormouse.  相似文献

Summary The annual replacement of tillers of Agropyron desertorum (Fisch. ex Link) Schult., a grazing-tolerant, Eurasian tussock grass, was examined in the field following cattle grazing. Heavy grazing before internode (culm) elongation seldom affected tiller replacement. Heavy grazing during or after internode elongation, which elevates apical meristems, increased overwinter mortality of fall-produced tillers and reduced the number and heights of these replacement tillers. Unexpectedly, tussocks grazed twice within the spring growing season tended to have lower overwinter tiller mortality, greater tiller replacement, and larger replacement tillers than tussocks grazed only once in late spring. These responses of twice-grazed tussocks, however, were still less than those of ungrazed tussocks or tussocks grazed moderately in early spring. The presence of ungrazed tillers on partially grazed tussoks did not increase the replacement of associated grazed tillers relative to tillers on uniformly grazed plants. This result indicates that resource sharing among tillers, if present, is short-lived or ecologically unimportant in this species. Although A. desertorum is considered grazing-tolerant, tiller replacement on heavily grazed tussocks, particularly those grazed during or after internode elongation when apical meristems were removed, was usually inadequate for tussock maintenance. These observations at the tiller (ramet) level of organization in individual tussocks (genet) may explain the often noted reduction in stand (population) longevity with consistent heavy grazing.  相似文献

The response of wild oat to imazamethabenz varies with the growth stage, but the role of tillers in this regard is unclear. Removal of tillers at the three-leaf stage before spraying with imazamethabenz did not significantly affect the total shoot fresh weight measured 3 weeks later. The leaf area and dry weight of intact plants at the three-leaf stage were 17–21% greater than for plants with coleoptilar and first leaf main shoot tillers (T0 and T1) removed. The greater leaf area may have increased herbicide interception per plant. Similar fresh weight reductions in main shoot, total tillers, and total shoots were found whether imazamethabenz was applied to the plant at the two-leaf without tillers or the three-leaf with two tillers stage. Imazamethabenz applied only to the main shoot reduced total shoot dry weight more than an equivalent amount of imazamethabenz applied only to tiller T1 or applied over the whole shoot. Imazamethabenz had the least inhibitory effect on whole plant growth when applied only to T1. When 14C-herbicide was applied to the first main shoot leaf of plants at the three-leaf stage with two tillers, the 14C translocated 38% to roots, 33% to the main shoot, and nearly 30% to all tillers. When 14C-herbicide was applied to the first leaf of T1 then the 14C translocated 50% to T1, 25% to the main shoot, 20% to roots, and 5% to all other tillers. The translocation pattern and fresh weight values suggested that the presence of early tillers during herbicide application neither increased nor decreased imazamethabenz efficacy in wild oat. Summary Many grasses are infected by endophytic fungi that grow intercellularly in leaves, stems, and flowers and are transmitted maternally by hyphal growth into ovules and seeds. The seed biology and seedling growth of endophyte-infected and uninfected perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) were investigated under controlled environmental conditions. The percentage of filled seeds produced by infected tall fescue was over twice of uninfected tall fescue; infected and uninfected perennial reegrass had similar percentages. Weights of seeds from infected and uninfected plants were similar in both species. Seeds from infected plants of both species exhibited a higher rate of germination than seeds from uninfected plants. Shoot growth in the greenhouse was compared by making three sequential harvests of above-ground plant parts from infected and uninfected plants of both species. Infected perennial ryegrass plants produced significantly more biomass and tillers than uninfected plants after 6 and 10 weeks of growth and significantly more biomass after 14 weeks of growth. Infected tall fescue plants produced significantly more biomass and tillers than uninfected plants after 10 and 14 weeks of growth. The physiological mechanism of enhancement of growth is not known. The results of this study suggest that infected plants may have a selective advantage in populations with uninfected members.  相似文献

Cyanobacteria and/or azolla were inoculated, with urea at 0, 72 or 144 kg N/ha, in plots in which azolla-free Indica rice var. IR 28 was grown. Productive tillers, yield and nitrogen contents of grain and straw positively responded to inoculation with cyanobacteria or azolla, even with fertilizer-N up to 144 kg N/ha. Inoculation improved colonization by cyanobacteria. Azolla were superior to the asymbiotic cyanobacteria in enhancing rice performance. Urea at a rate of 72 kg N/ha was found to support the best colonizations when applied with cyanobacteria or azolla or, to give maximum rice yields, both inoculants.  相似文献

To limit N-fertilizer applied on wheat, cultivars that use N more efficiently are needed. Our objective was to investigate differences of nitrogen utilization in varieties by studying qualitative and quantitative proteins expression. Two wheat varieties, 'Arche' and 'Récital', were grown under controlled conditions at four N levels (0, 2, 8, and 20 mg N/plant/day) with two replicates. The number of tillers/plant, aerial dry weight/plant and total N content were measured after two months. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis was also performed on leaf protein extracts. Analyses of variance showed that the N level effect was highly significant for the number of tillers/plant, aerial dry weight and N content. The variety x N level interaction was significant for N content. Analyses of variance on % volume carried out for 524 spots showed a significant variety effect for 55 spots and a significant N treatment effect for 76 spots. Twenty spots showed a significant variety x N treatment interaction. Fourteen proteins were identified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The possible role of these proteins, eight of which belong to the carbon metabolism, is discussed.  相似文献

Placing plant organs into upper canopy layers or gaps is considered advantageous for avoiding neighbours. Current research only covers the lack of selective branching in response to heterogeneous radiation in dicots. Due to some unique shade avoidance regulatory pathways and clonal structure, directional response may occur in grasses. I used Festuca rubra L., a grass with two types of branches: intravaginal tillers developed from young buds close to the primary shoot, and extravaginal tillers developed from older buds and placed on rhizomes in a certain distance from the mother tussocks. Tussocks grown from vegetativelly multiplied initial tillers were exposed to three radiation regimes in two green-house experiments: full sunlight, full shading simulating canopy and heterogeneous radiation. Interaction of the treatments with orientation of the initial tillers relative to their mother tillers, which may constrain morphology of the developing tussocks, were studied. Even though shading decreased the number of intravaginal tillers, heterogeneous radiation did not influence direction of their outgrowth. However, shading activated dormant buds at the tussock base and thus stimulated extravaginal tillering, with a tendency to develop more extravaginal tillers towards the shaded sites.  相似文献

Because of the modular structure of pearl millet (an annual grass crop, Poaceae), different tillers of a plant share the same genotype but are subjected to different environmental conditions during their maturation. This allows investigation of the effects of tiller flowering phenology on allocation to resource-producing photosynthetic biomass, sexual functions, and thus tiller gender. All tillers of plants of two families collected from individual maternal plants (represented by 33 and 31 plants each) were analyzed. In both families, allocation to aboveground vegetative biomass decreased as flowering was delayed. On average, late-flowering tillers were 65% smaller than the first ones to flower. The proportion of biomass allocated to reproduction significantly increased with the flowering rank of the tillers, suggesting that translocations of assimilates occurred between early- and late-flowering tillers. In both families, late-flowering tillers produced significantly fewer pollen grains per stamen than early-flowering ones, and female reproductive allocation (expressed as seed mass per tiller) was also affected by flowering phenology. Tillers became increasingly female as flowering phenology progressed. This gender variation is possibly adaptive because pollination efficiency is maximized by plant height. Natural selection may favor a shift toward femaleness to maximize reproductive fitness in small, late-developing tillers.  相似文献

Plant growth regulators were applied either to seeds or to leaves of uniculm selections of barley and wheat. None of the treatments stimulated the growth and development of tiller buds in the barley selection. In contrast, in wheat the development of tiller buds was readily stimulated and tillers were produced following treatment with Terpal, Cerone, TIBA or nitrate. In Terpal and Cerone treated plants, the stimulation of tiller bud outgrowth and tillering was accompanied by a marked retardation of growth in the main shoot. The growth of the tillers was however not sustained in any of the treatments, and so at maturity all plants were virtually uniculm. The results are discussed in relation to the different overall response of the two species, the death of tillers, and the hormonal regulation of tiller bud development.  相似文献

Most studies of tiller development have not related the physiological and morphological features of each culm to its subsequent fertility. This introduces problems when trying to account for the effects of tillering on yield in crop models. The objective of this study was to detect the most likely early determinants of tiller fertility in sorghum by identifying hierarchies for emergence, fertility and grain number of tillers over a wide range of assimilate availabilities. Emergence, phenology, leaf area development and dry weight partitioning were quantified weekly for individual tillers and main culms of tillering and uniculm plants grown at one of four densities, from two to 16 plants m(-2). For a given plant in any given density, the same tiller hierarchy applied for emergence of tillers, fertility of the emerged tillers and their subsequent grain number. These results were observed over a range of tiller fertility rates (from 7 to 91%), fertile tiller number per plant at maturity (from 0.2 to 4.7), and tiller contribution to grain yield (from 5 to 78 %). Tiller emergence was most probably related to assimilate supply and light quality. Development, fertility and contribution to yield of a specific tiller were highly dependent on growing conditions at the time of tiller emergence, particularly via early leaf area development of the tiller, which affected its subsequent leaf area accumulation. Assimilate availability in the main culm at the time of tiller emergence was the most likely early determinant of subsequent tiller fertility in this study.  相似文献

Co2 exchange and transpiration rates of the flag leaves of four spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, namely Glenlea, Neepawa, Opal and Kolibri, were compared using infra-red gas-analysis technique. The plants were grown in a controlled environment under an 18-h photoperiod, with day and night temperatures of 20 and 15° C, respectively. The time course of the CO2-exchange rate (CER) of the flag leaf differed among cultivars. CER began to decrease rapidly some 2 weeks after ear emergence in Glenlea, Neepawa and Kolibri, but only after 4 weeks in Opal. The decline in CER of Glenlea, Neepawa and Opal was continuous throughout the period of grain development whereas in Kolibri CER was maintained at a constant level between the 4th and 6th weeks after ear emergence. The transpiration rates of the flag leaves of the 4 cultivars did not change markedly until 6–7 weeks after ear emergence, indicating that the reduction in CER was not primarily a response to increased stomatal resistance to the diffusion of CO2. Removing the ear of the main shoot of intact plants failed to depress CER of the subtending flag leaf until 5 weeks after ear removal. Removing the ears of all the tillers of plants in which all but 3 tillers had been removed at ear emergence did not depress CER until 4 weeks after ear emergence, but removal of the ear of the main shoot of plants where all the tillers had been removed at ear emergence reduced the CER of the flag leaf 2 weeks after ear removal. Removal of tillers at ear emergence had a marked effect on the time course of CER and transpiration rates of the flag leaf. Both CER and transpiration rates of a 4-tiller plant were maintained at a higher level throughout ear development as compared to those of a one-tiller plant. The transpiration rate of the flag leaf of Glenlea increased during the later part of the life of the leaf even for one-tiller plants with no ear, indicating that such a stomatal response may be part of the normal course of leaf aging and not a response to a feedback stimulus from the ear.  相似文献
