Total levels of urine and serum immunoglobulin IgM, IgG and IgA, and the E. coli-specific bacterial immunoglobulin response were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a rat model of acute urinary tract infection. High levels of urinary IgM were detected as early as day 3 post infection and then decreased to statistically insignificant levels. Peak levels of IgG occurred in the serum and urine on day 14. Urine and serum IgA levels remained low throughout the study period. The results demonstrate that in the rat model of acute urinary tract infection, IgM appears first in the urine and serum, and rapidly decreases. IgG then appears in the serum and urine followed by a late E. coli-specific immunoglobulin serum and urine response. Also, a non-specific component of the immunoglobulin response was noted in both the serum and urine. In the rat, IgA appears to play little or no role in the urine or in the serum response to the infection.  相似文献

Introduction:  The Department of Clinical Chemistry of the General Hospital of Móstoles (Madrid, Spain) has for many years diagnosed the presence of atypical cells in the urinary sediment (ACUS), but this finding only led to a comment in the final report of the urinalysis, informing the clinician of this fact in case he/she decided to perform further studies in these patients.
Methods:  Since 2004, the Clinical Chemistry Department has implemented a new protocol together with the Department of Surgical Pathology of the Hospital, according to which all the urinary sediment samples with ACUS are sent for cytological analysis. In this report, we comment on the results corresponding to 99 samples.
Results:  With this new strategy, we can directly diagnose if the ACUS correspond to a carcinoma or to another process, and this has allowed us to reduce time until diagnosis in our patients and also to avoid unnecessary studies in negative cases. We comment on our results with this new management strategy.  相似文献

The distribution of Pan cytokeratin and cytokeratin 18 in the dog and sheep urinary bladder and ureter as seen by immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibodies is described. Both cytokeratins were observed in the urinary bladder and ureter of the studied species. Differences in their localization are described.  相似文献

Urinary excretion of dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine was measured in a group of adult men and women of comparable age during recumbency and then during stimulation by upright posture. Urinary norepinephrine was found to be significantly higher in women (30.3 +/- 4.4 ng/min/m2 B.S.) than in men (18.3 +/- 2.7 ng/min/m2 B.S.) during recumbency; there was no significant sex difference in dopamine and epinephrine excretion. There was no apparent trend indicating a difference in urinary catecholamine excretion during the follicular or luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. In response to upright posture, there was a significant decrease in the urinary dopamine-norepinephrine ratio in both sexes; the magnitude of the decrease was, however, significantly higher in men (-9.9 +/- 3.0) than in women (-2.05 +/- 0.72). The mechanisms of the sex differences in urinary catecholamine excretion are unknown. Clinical studies involving catecholamines have to take these sex differences into account.  相似文献

The urinary tract is one of the most intractable mucosal surfaces for pathogens to colonize. In addition to the natural barriers at this site, potential pathogens have to contend with the vigorous local innate immune system. Several Toll-like receptors (TLRs) have been identified on epithelial cells of the bladder and the kidneys which mediate a variety of powerful immune responses. A common finding among successful uropathogens is their intrinsic ability to suppress TLR-mediated responses. As antibiotic therapy becomes increasingly ineffective, employing boosters of the innate immune system in the urinary tract may become a viable option.  相似文献

The importance of the method of handling the urinary precipitates frequently present in urine samples, especially after freezing-thawing, for bile acid analysis is emphasized because of the presence of a considerable proportion of monohydroxy bile acids such as lithocholic and 3 beta-hydroxy-5-cholenoic acids. The β-adrenoceptors of the urinary bladder were investigated in the rat invivo. Isoprenaline, and the β2-stimulating agents terbutaline and salbutamol elicited relaxation of the detrusor muscle decreasing the intravesical pressure. The responses were not affected by the β1-blocking agents practolol or H 93/26 but were totally abolished by propranolol and the β2-blocking agent H 3525. Noradrenaline given after dihydro-ergotamine caused relaxation of the detrusor muscle and this response was completely blocked by propranolol and H 3525. It is concluded that the β-adrenoceptors of the rat urinary bladder belong to the type of inhibitory receptors classified as β2-receptors in other organs.  相似文献

Summary The urinary bladder of adult female guinea-pigs was stained histochemically to detect the presence of intramural ganglion neurons. Counts on wholemount preparations of entire bladders revealed the presence of 2000–2500 neurons per bladder, either as individual nerve cells or, more often, as ganglia containing up to 40 neurons. Both ganglia and single neurons lie along nerve trunks and are interconnected to form a plexus. Ganglia occur in every part of the bladder; they are more numerous on the dorsal than on the ventral wall, and they are especially abundant in an area within a radius of 800 m from the point of entry into the bladder wall of ureters and urinary arteries. The ganglia are located inside the muscle coat and close to muscle bundles; they usually lie nearer the mucosa than the serosa. Ultrastructurally, each ganglion is surrounded by a capsule; in addition to neurons and glial cells, the ganglia contain capillaries, collagen fibrils and fibroblasts; ganglion neurons are individually wrapped by glial cells and are separated from one another by connective tissue.  相似文献
