The facial muscles of primates are derivates of sphincter colli profundus muscle and platysma myoides. A third superficial muscle layer which is present in primitive mammals is found as a rest in Tupaiiformes. The facial muscles of some Lemuriformes must be considered as a model from which originate the facial musculature of other primates. The new formation of muscles takes place at the margine of the original muscle layers; marginal muscle fibers assume another run and get individualized. So it can be seen in facial muscles of prosimians and platyrrhine monkeys that the profound muscles of mouth and nose and some of the rostral margine of the auricle have orginated from sphincter colli muscle, all others from platysma myoides. Primitive and modified muscle forms and intermediate muscle forms can be observed among prosimians as well as among platyrrhine monkeys and by this it is possible to see the homology of the facial muscles.  相似文献

Summary Isoenzymes of glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI: E.C. 5.3.1.9) were used as markers to determine the origin of cells which give rise to new muscle formed in allografts of whole intact muscle. GPI isoenzymes were also employed to see whether host precursor cells, which have been shown to contribute to muscle formation in grafts of minced muscle, can be derived from muscle lying adjacent to grafts.Excellent muscle regeneration was found in allografts of extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle examined after 58 days: 12 of 16 grafts contained 80% or more new muscle. Isoenzyme analysis showed that most, and in 2 instances all, new muscle was derived from implanted donor cells; however, there was strong evidence that in 5 grafts some, or all, new muscle must have resulted from host cells moving into the graft. Although hybrid isoenzyme was not detected this was attributed to factors associated with host tolerance which appear to interfere with fusion between host and donor myoblasts.Isografts of minced muscle were placed next to whole EDL muscle allografts to see if cells from allografts moved into adjacent regenerating tissue. Unfortunately, muscle regeneration in minced isografts was poor; only 3 contained 50% or more new muscle and most contained large amounts of fibrous connective tissue. Only a single isoenzyme band was detected in 11 isografts, but in five instances, the presence of a second band showed that cells from EDL allografts were also present. As no hybrid isoenzyme was detected, it is not known whether these cells which had moved into the regenerating minced grafts were muscle precursors, fibroblasts or some other cell types.  相似文献

Background

The physiological characteristics of muscle activity and the assessment of muscle strength represent important diagnostic information. There are many devices that measure muscle force in humans, but some require voluntary contractions, which are difficult to assess in weak or unconscious patients who are unable to complete a full range of voluntary force assessment tasks. Other devices, which obtain standard muscle contractions by electric stimulations, do not have the technology required to induce and measure reproducible valid contractions at the optimum muscle length.  相似文献

Striated muscle fibers and their spatial relationship to smooth muscle cells have been studied in the middle third of human esophagus. Biopsies were obtained from 3 patients during surgery. In both the circular and longitudinal layers, the muscle coat of this transition zone was composed of fascicles of uniform dimension (100-200 microns of diameter); some of these bundles were made up of striated muscle fibers, others were pure bundles of smooth muscle cells and some were of the mixed type. Striated muscle fibers represented three different types, which were considered as intermediate, with certain structural features characteristic of the fast fiber type. Of these, the most frequently-found fibers were most similar to the fast fiber type. Satellite cells were numerous; in mixed fascicles they were gradually replaced by smooth muscle cells. The gap between striated muscle fiber and smooth muscle cells was more than 200 nm wide. It contained the respective basal laminae and a delicate layer of amorphous connective tissue. No specialized junctions were formed between consecutive striated muscle fibers, or between striated muscle fibers and smooth muscle cells. Interstitial cells of Cajal were never situated as close to striated muscle fibers as to smooth muscle cells.  相似文献

A comparative pharmacological analysis of relative contributions of different signal transduction pathways in the activation of contraction (excitation-contraction coupling, ECC) in intact fast striated muscles of frog and lamprey was performed. It was found that the major mechanism responsible for the ECC in muscles of both animals is Ca2+ release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum through the ryanodine-sensitive channels. However, the ECC in lamprey muscle displays some important differences in the units of electromechanical coupling, which precede the calcium release from sarcoplasmic reticulum. The maximum contraction force in frog muscle develops during caffeine-induced contracture, which indicates that all Ca2+ stored in sarcoplasmic reticulum is released through ryanodine-sensitive channels. In contrast, in lamprey muscle, the maximum force develops not in response to high caffeine concentration, but in response to repetitive electrical stimulation. Hence, in addition to stores liberated by ryanodine-sensitive channels, some other sources of calcium ions should exist, which contribute to the contraction activation. A source of this additional Ca2+ ions can be external medium, because acetylcholine contracture is abolished in a calcium-free medium. In frog muscle, the acetylcholine contracture was abolished in a Na(+)-free solution. It was concluded that in frog muscle ECC can be triggered by changes in the transmembrane potential (depolarization-induced calcium release), while in lamprey muscle the entry of calcium ions into myoplasm as the trigger in ECC (calcium-induced calcium release). The lamprey muscle was found to be more resistant to tetrodotoxin and tetracaine, which is indicative of a role in the activation of contraction of tetrodotoxin-resistant Na+ and/or Ca2+ channels. It was concluded, that ECC mechanism in striated muscles of low vertebrates is not limited by the generally accepted scheme of depolarization-induced calcium release but can include some other schemes, which require the Ca2+ influx into the cell.  相似文献

Changes in fibre diameters of extraocular muscles of the rabbit were studied at different times after denervation. The whole inferior oblique muscle hypertrophied, while some of the muscle fibres hypertrophied and others showed atrophy, depending on the fibre type. Fibre types have been determined by their histochemical enzyme profile. In the central layer of the muscle the phasic muscle fibres, which are rich in mitochondria, exhibited a transient hypertrophy being maximal 4-5 weeks after denervation and afterwards they atrophied; other phasic muscle fibres, which are poor in mitochondria, atrophied without having shown any sign of hypertrophy. Special, putatively slow tonic muscle fibres, which have low enzyme activities, underwent small long-lasting increases of their diameters. In the superficial layer of extraocular muscle there are two types of extremely thin muscle fibres rich in mitochondira. Both these fibre types hypertrophied to the greatest degree and for a very long time. Comparable changes in fibre diameters as described here for the muscle fibre types of an extraocular muscle are known from special muscle fibres in other vertebrate  相似文献

A three-component model of the muscle is used in which the components change their values when the muscle is stimulated. In particular the elastic components change not only their moduli of elasticity but the unstretched lengths decrease when the muscle is in the active state. When the model is extended to the intrafusal muscle fibres of the mammalian muscle spindle it can reproduce some of the observed responses to mechanical stretch and fusimotor stimulation.  相似文献

The pattern of innervation in 13 chicken hindlimb muscles was studied at various stages of development in order to examine the mechanisms which regulate its formation. The pattern of innervation was visualized by examining the distribution of fiber types within each muscle. It was found that the fiber type which a myotube acquired was influenced by both its time of formation and its position within a muscle. The earliest generation of myotubes (primary) had a marked tendency to become type I fibers, whereas, in contrast, the later generation of myotubes (secondary) tended to differentiate into type II fibers. There were regions of muscle, however, in which primary myotubes differentiated into type II fibers and other regions in which secondary myotubes acquired type I characteristics. During the development of some muscles the pattern of fiber types changed as a result of either a selective loss of type I fibers or, in other cases, a rearrangement of some of the initial neuromuscular contacts. These observations are consistent with the pattern of innervation of a muscle being established as a result of differential projection patterns of fast and slow motoneurons and the existence of some type of chemoaffinity where particular myotubes are preferentially innervated by particular motoneurons.  相似文献

Fibrillar type flight muscle powers the flight machinery of the more phylogenetically advanced groups of flying insects. A comparison of responses from single fibers in insects from various orders having fibrillar muscle reveals fundamental differences. In single fibers of flies and wasps the response to a single threshold stimulus is an all-or-none, uniformly rising, in most cases overshooting action potential. Beetles give variable responses, some of which appear similar to the type mentioned above, and others which summate and facilitate. Some of the latter responses vary with time in a cyclic manner, and some are altered by the intensity of the stimulus. Further differences appear when the two types of muscle are exposed to ether and carbon dioxide. In the wasp and fly ether produces a neuromuscular block, while CO2 effects a rapid depolarization of the resting fiber membrane. Both reactions are completely reversible. The electrical responses of beetle muscle are somewhat affected but only by massive doses. The implications of these data are discussed relative to the existence of fibrillar muscle "types."  相似文献

The protein O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) modification plays an important role in skeletal muscle development and physiological function. In this study, bitransgenic mice were generated that overexpressed NCOAT(GK), an O-GlcNAcase-inactive spliced variant of the O-GlcNAcase gene, specifically in skeletal muscle using the muscle creatine kinase promoter. Expression of the chimeric enhanced green fluorescent protein-NCOAT(GK) transgene caused an increase of cellular O-GlcNAc levels, along with the accumulation and activation of proapoptotic factors in muscles of bitransgenic mice. The consequence of overexpressing the transgene for a 2-wk period was muscle atrophy and, in some cases, resulted in the death of male mice. Muscle atrophy is a common complication of many diseases, some of which correlate markedly with high cellular O-GlcNAc levels, such as diabetes. Our study provides direct evidence linking muscle atrophy and the disruption of O-GlcNAcase activity.  相似文献

Simple and partial correlations were computed among 23 physico-chemical characteristics of L. dorsi muscle from lambs. The object was to single out those correlations which are inherent in the muscle composition and those which are dependent on nutritional status and age of the lambs. A large number of simple correlations between different characteristics were found to be significant.

However, the partial correlations, adjusted for plane of nutrition and age, revealed only for a small number of significant relationships which were inherent in muscle composition.

Most of the correlations were spurious, in the sense, that they depended mainly on the plane of nutrition and age of the lambs.

The intensity of correlation improved between some muscle characteristics by eliminating the effect of plane of nutrition and age. This suggests that the variation in those characteristics was not only due to plane of nutrition and age but some third factor was also involved in affecting their relationships.  相似文献

A study has been made of some structural and enzymatic properties of myosin and its fragments from denervated white muscles of rabbit in the course of atrophy using different methods: UV-luminiscence, flow birefringence, electromicroscopy, viscosimetry and enzymatic measurements. All the studied parameters had a tendency to decrease; at prolonged observation some properties were partially restored. Considerable changes of structural properties of LMM were revealed: the ability of LMM from denervated muscle to form high-ordered structures which is characteristic of LMM from normal muscle decreased considerably.  相似文献

Methylcobalamin (MeCbl) is a vitamin B12 analog that has some positive effects on peripheral nervous disorders. Although some previous studies revealed the effects of MeCbl on neurons, its effect on the muscle, which is the final target of motoneuron axons, remains to be elucidated. This study aimed to determine the effect of MeCbl on the muscle. We found that MeCbl promoted the proliferation and migration of C2C12 myoblasts in vitro and that these effects are mediated by the Erk1/2 signaling pathway without affecting the activity of the Akt signaling pathway. We also demonstrated that MeCbl inhibits C2C12 cell apoptosis during differentiation. Our results suggest that MeCbl has beneficial effects on the muscle in vitro. MeCbl administration may provide a novel therapeutic approach for muscle injury or degenerating muscle after denervation.  相似文献

The development of myogenic cells is mainly determined by expression of two myogenic factors, Myf5 and Myod1 (MyoD), which genetically compensate for each other during embryogenesis. Here, we demonstrate by conditional cell ablation in mice that Myf5 determines a distinct myogenic cell population, which also contains some Myod1-positive cells. Ablation of this lineage uncovers the presence of a second autonomous myogenic lineage, which superseded Myf5-dependent myogenic cells and expressed Myod1. By contrast, ablation of myogenin-expressing cells erased virtually all differentiated muscle cells, indicating that some aspects of the myogenic program are shared by most skeletal muscle cells. We conclude that Myf5 and Myod1 define different cell lineages with distinct contributions to muscle precursor cells and differentiated myotubes. Individual myogenic cell lineages seem to substitute for each other within the developing embryo.  相似文献

Lengths of muscle tendon complexes of the quadriceps femoris muscle and some of its heads, biceps femoris and gastrocnemius muscles, were measured for six limbs of human cadavers as a function of knee and hip-joint angles. Length-angle curves were fitted using second degree polynomials. Using these polynomials the relationships between knee and hip-joint angles and moment arms were calculated. The effect of changing the hip angle on the biceps femoris muscle length is much larger than that of changing the knee angle. For the rectus femoris muscle the reverse was found. The moment arm of the biceps femoris muscle was found to remain constant throughout the whole range of knee flexion as was the case for the medial part of the vastus medialis muscle. Changes in the length of the lateral part of the vastus medialis muscle as well as the medial part of the vastus lateralis muscle are very similar to those of vastus intermedius muscle to which they are adjacent, while those changes in the length of the medial part of the vastus medialis muscle and the lateral part of the vastus lateralis muscle, which are similar to each other, differ substantially from those of the vastus intermedius muscle. Application of the results to jumping showed that bi-articular rectus femoris and biceps femoris muscles, which are antagonists, both contract eccentrically early in the push off phase and concentrically in last part of this phase.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of locust muscles with different function is examined: the pleuroaxillary flight steering muscle is compared with a typical flight (power muscle) and a typical leg muscle, in particular with respect to sarcomere length, tracheation, mitochondria, and sarcoplasmatic reticulum. The pleuroaxillary muscle exhibits some features characteristic of flight muscles but most of the ultrastructure resembles that of leg muscles. This is in agreement with the innervation of this muscle by an octopaminergic neuron, which also innervates leg muscles but no other flight muscles. It also supports the hypothesis that octopaminergic neurons are important metabolic regulators and that the above muscle types exhibit important differences in energy metabolism.  相似文献

Summary Smooth feather muscles (mm. pennati) consist of bundles of smooth muscle cells which are attached to the feather follicles by short elastic tendons. In addition, some muscle bundles are interrupted by elastic tendons. The elastic tendon is composed of longitudinally arranged elastic fibers which branch and wavy bundles of collagen fibrils. Smooth muscle cells of the muscle bundles are attached to each other by desmosome-like junctions and by fusion of the basal laminae. The cytoplasm of the muscle cells is characterized by conspicuous thick filaments and abundant thin and intermediate filaments. These are attached to band-like dense patches (dense bands) at the plasma membrane which are particularly broad at the tapering end of the muscle cell. The contact surface between smooth muscle cells and their elastic tendon is considerably increased (i) by deep finger-like invaginations and indentations located at the tapering muscle end, and (ii) by branching of the coarse elastic fibers into slender processes, which are attached to the richly folded surface of the muscle cell endings by peripheral microfibrils. This intimate interlocking closely resembles the myotendinous junctions in skeletal muscle. In addition to fibroblasts and fibrocytes, the myotendinous junction of the young growing chicks contains numerous so-called myofibroblasts, which are suggested to represent smooth muscle cells differentiating into fibroblasts of the developing tendon.Dedicated to Professor Dr. Helmut Leonhardt on the occasion of his 60th birthdaySupported by a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Dr. 91/1)  相似文献
