Two new species of the genus Aturus Kramer (A. tuzovskyi sp. n. and A. kimichungi sp. n.) from Russia are described. These species and closely related species of the genus Aturus are compared. A. tuzovskyi sp. n. male is characterized by a slender body, the presence of a pair of bifurcated setae on the dorsal shield, two sword ventrodistal setae equal in length on the genu of leg IV, and 10–14 pairs of acetabula. The female of this species is characterized by the oval body and the presence of 10–13 pairs of acetabula. The male of A. kimichungi sp. n. is characterized by a rounded body, the presence of a single pair of bifurcated setae on the dorsal shield; sword setae on the genu IV are longer than tibia IV; 14–21 pairs of acetabula are present. The female of this species possesses a rounded body and 18–19 pairs of acetabula.  相似文献

Ecologically specialized species may be more susceptible to anthropogenic impacts than generalist species. Japan’s native bitterlings (subfamily Acheilognathinae), which are specialized to spawn on the gills of certain freshwater mussels, have been declining dramatically during the last few decades. To identify factors affecting the local occurrence of the threatened bitterling species Tanakia lanceolata, we measured its presence and absence, along with several environmental factors, at 68 sites within agricultural canal networks in the Lake Mikata basin, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Based on the theoretical information approach of Akaike’s information criterion, generalized linear mixed models were constructed. These revealed that the species’ occurrence is strongly affected by five major factors: the presence of freshwater mussels Anodonta sp., water depth, floating plants coverage, the presence of bullfrogs, and submerged plants coverage. The probability of the presence of T. lanceolata was higher at shallower sites with lower floating plants coverage, located within channels containing mussel beds. These results suggest that mussel-containing channel systems are high-priority conservation zones for T. lanceolata.  相似文献

Based on the study of the ammonite collection assembled by A.S. Sakharov from the Middle Jurassic Armkhi Formation of the Gerchyoch Mountain Pass (northern Ingushetia) and on literature sources, the species composition and stratigraphic position of northern Caucasian Cadoceras are discussed. Early Callovian C. tchegemicum Lominadze, C. tschernyschewi Sokolov, and C. suevicum Callomon et Dietl are identified; the name C. loginovae Lominadze, 2004 is synonymized under C. stupachenkoi Mitta, 1998. The Late Bathonian species are identified as C. sakharovi sp. nov. and C. aff. perrarum Voronetz. The presence of Upper Bathonian sediments is substantiated for the northern Caucasus; the theory of the inversion of the Kepplerites beds is shows to be erroneous.  相似文献

Incubation of prolamellar bodies (PLB) in high-salt media leads to changes in PLB structure and properties of their protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase–protochlorophyllide (PORPChlide) complex. The paracrystalline organisation typical of PLB is disrupted and NADPH dissociates from photoconvertible PORPChlide, with absorption maxima at 640 and 650 nm (PORPChlide 640/650 ), and a non-photoconvertible form, with absorption maxima at 635 nm (PORPChlide 635 ), is formed. These effects are strongly dependent on the valence of the cation of the perturbing salt, indicating that they involve surface double layers effects. They are also influenced by the nature of the anion and by high concentrations of non-electrolytes, suggesting the involvement of surface hydration effects. The structural changes are largely, if not entirely, independent of the presence of excess NADPH. Changes to the PORPChlide complex, however, are strongly inhibited by excess NADPH suggesting that the two sets of changes may not be causally linked. As long as the disruption is not too great, the structural changes seen on incubation of PLB in high salt media lacking excess NADPH are reversed on removal of the high salt perturbation. This reversal is independent of the presence or absence of added NADPH. Reformation of photoconvertible PORPChlide, however, requires the presence of NADPH. The reformation of paracrystalline PLB in the absence of NADPH strongly indicates that preservation of PLB structure, in isolated PLB preparations at least, is independent of the presence or absence of PORPChlide 650 .  相似文献

Single parasite species often have a range of different hosts which vary in their ability to sustain the parasite. When foraging for food, alternative hosts with similar feeding modes may compete for the infective stages of trophically transmitted parasites. If some of the infective stages end up in unsuitable hosts, transmission of the parasite to the focal host is decreased. I studied whether the presence of conspecifics alters the probability of an uninfected susceptible recipient Daphnia becoming infected by a microparasite and if this effect depends on whether the added conspecifics themselves are susceptible or resistant to infection. The presence of both susceptible and resistant conspecifics decreased the probability of infection in recipients. This effect was dependent on the density of the conspecifics but was not found to be related to their size. In addition, when Daphnia were placed in medium derived from crowded Daphnia populations, the probability of infection in recipients decreased as compared to that in standard medium. This implies that decreases in transmission probability are not caused by dilution of spores through food competition only, but also by indirect interference mediated through infochemicals released by Daphnia. Since Daphnia have been found to respond to crowding by decreasing their filtering rate, the decrease in transmission is probably caused by decreased intake of spores in crowded conditions. The presence of conspecifics can thus decrease microparasite transmission in Daphnia which may have important consequences for epidemiology and evolution of Daphnia parasites.  相似文献

Thielaviopsis basicola is a hemibiotroph fungus that causes black root rot disease in diverse plants with significant impact on cotton production in Australia. To elucidate how T. basicola growth and proteome are influenced by interactions with natural sources, this fungus was cultured in the presence of root extracts from non‐host (wheat, hairy vetch) and susceptible host (cotton, lupin) plants. We found that T. basicola growth was significantly favored in the presence of host extracts, while hierarchical clustering analysis of 2‐DE protein profiles of T. basicola showed plant species had a larger effect on the proteome than host/non‐host status. Analysis by LC‐MS/MS of unique and differentially expressed spots and identification using cross‐species similarity searching and de novo sequencing allowed successful identification of 41 spots. These proteins were principally involved in primary metabolism with smaller numbers implicated in other diverse functions. Identification of several “morpho” proteins suggested morphological differences that were further microscopically investigated. Identification of several highly expressed spots suggested that vitamin B6 is important in the T. basicola response to components present in hairy vetch extract, and finally, three spots, induced in the presence of lupin extract, may correspond to malic enzyme and be involved in lipid accumulation.  相似文献

A leaf beetle, Crioceris sp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), was introduced into Australia as a biological control agent of bridal creeper (Asparagus asparagoides L. Druce) during October 2002. Rearing of Crioceris sp. is labour intensive therefore all releases of Crioceris sp. have been under 1000 individuals, which may be too low to ensure establishment if high mortality and high competition with other agents occurs. The aim of this study is to understand how the presence of two well-established biocontrol agents, a rust fungus (Puccinia myrsiphylli (Thuem) Wint [Basidiomycota: Uredinales]) and a leafhopper (Zygina sp. [Hemiptera: Cicadellidae]), might influence Crioceris sp. establishment. Crioceris sp. neonate larvae were placed on bridal creeper plants with or without the leafhopper and/or rust. The number of larvae that pupated was reduced by 38 and 65% in the presence of the rust fungus and leafhopper, respectively and by 45% in the presence of both agents. As the area infected by the rust increased the area damaged by the leafhopper decreased. The rust appeared to be negatively impacted by the presence of the leafhopper. In a second experiment, female Crioceris sp. adults were given a choice between uninfested bridal creeper plants and those infested with the rust or the leafhopper. The females preferred to lay their eggs on plants without leafhoppers but did not seem to be deterred by the presence of the rust. Consequently, the performance and impact of Crioceris sp. on bridal creeper may be reduced if populations overlap with the other biocontrol agents in the field.  相似文献

There are few longtime studies on the effects on aphids of being tended by ants. The aim of this study is to investigate how the presence of ants influences settling decisions by colonizing aphids and the post‐settlement growth and survival of aphid colonies. We conducted a field experiment using the facultative myrmecophile Aphis fabae and the ant Lasius niger. The experiment relied on natural aphid colonization of potted plants of scentless mayweed Tripleurospermum perforatum placed outdoors. Ants occurred naturally at the field site and had access to half of the pots and were prevented from accessing the remainder. The presence of winged, dispersing aphids, the growth and survival of establishing aphid colonies, and the presence of parasitoids were measured in relation to presence or absence of ants, over a period of five weeks. The presence of ants did not significantly influence the pattern of initial host plant colonization or the initial colony growth, but ant‐tended aphids were subject to higher parasitism by hymenopteran parasitoids. The net result over the experimental period was that the presence of ants decreased aphid colony productivity, measured as the number of winged summer migrants produced from the colonized host plants. This implies that aphids do not always benefit from the presence of ants, but under some conditions rather pay a cost in the form of reduced dispersal.  相似文献

Results of study of the effect of presence of model predator on parental care in convict cichlid Amatitlania nigrofasciata are presented. Main differences in parental functions of male and female in the family group and their transformation in the case of a potential threat for the clutch and litter are considered. The dynamics of parental behavior throughout the period of parental care and the effect of the predator’s presence on this dynamics are analyzed. It is shown that predator’s presence exerts a complex transforming effect on the entire structure of parental behavior in the family group of the convict cichlid. Male behavior is distinguished by highest lability in the period after passing of juveniles to free swimming.  相似文献

Background

A traditional concept in bacterial genetics states that housekeeping genes, those involved in basic metabolic functions needed for maintenance of the cell, are encoded in the chromosome, whereas genes required for dealing with challenging environmental conditions are located in plasmids. Exceptions to this rule have emerged from genomic sequence data of bacteria with multipartite genomes. The genome sequence of R. etli CFN42 predicts the presence of panC and panB genes clustered together on the 642 kb plasmid p42f and a second copy of panB on plasmid p42e. They encode putative pantothenate biosynthesis enzymes (pantoate-β-alanine ligase and 3-methyl-2-oxobutanoate hydroxymethyltransferase, respectively). Due to their ubiquitous distribution and relevance in the central metabolism of the cell, these genes are considered part of the core genome; thus, their occurrence in a plasmid is noteworthy. In this study we investigate the contribution of these genes to pantothenate biosynthesis, examine whether their presence in plasmids is a prevalent characteristic of the Rhizobiales with multipartite genomes, and assess the possibility that the panCB genes may have reached plasmids by horizontal gene transfer.  相似文献

The Khanka Sawbelly Hemiculter lucidus is characterized by a significant prevalence of females in catches of mature fish. By means of RAPD-analysis using 12 primers and karyological investigations, the assumption on the presence of a unisexual gynogenetic form in this species was checked. With consideration of the obtained data, the assumption on gynogenetic reproduction is rejected. Other causes of the shift in sex ratio towards females are discussed.  相似文献

The larval morphology of the crane fly Nasiternella varinervis (Zetterstedt) is described for the first time. The larva is closely related to that of Tricyphona immaculata Mg. in the structure of the stigmal plate, but differs in the presence of creeping welts on abdominal segment III; the medial teeth of the hypostomal plate of Nasiternella varinervis being of the same size as the rest teeth, and the antennae being only 2.5 times as long as wide (4 times as long as wide in Tricyphona immaculata). The larvae develop in the dead wood of fallen trunks of deciduous and coniferous trees and are not associated with strongly moistened substrates.  相似文献

Many ecosystem services are sustained by the combined action of microscopic and macroscopic organisms, and shaped by interactions between the two. However, studies tend to focus on only one of these two components. We combined the two by investigating the impact of macrofauna on microbial community composition and functioning in the context of a major ecosystem process: the decomposition of dung. We compared bacterial communities of pasture soil and experimental dung pats inhabited by one (Aphodius), two (Aphodius and Geotrupes), or no dung beetle genera. Overall, we found distinct microbial communities in soil and dung samples, and that the communities converged over the course of the experiment. Characterising the soil microbial communities underlying the dung pats revealed a significant interactive effect between the microflora and macrofauna, where the diversity and composition of microbial communities was significantly affected by the presence or absence of dung beetles. The specific identity of the beetles had no detectable impact, but the microbial evenness was lower in the presence of both Aphodius and Geotrupes than in the presence of Aphodius alone. Differences in microbial community composition were associated with differences in substrate usage as measured by Ecoplates. Moreover, microbial communities with similar compositions showed more similar substrate usage. Our study suggests that the presence of macrofauna (dung beetles) will modify the microflora (bacteria) of both dung pats and pasture soil, including community diversity and functioning. In particular, the presence of dung beetles promotes the transfer of bacteria across the soil–dung interface, resulting in increased similarity in community structure and functioning. The results demonstrate that to understand how microbes contribute to the ecosystem process of dung decomposition, there is a need to understand their interactions with larger co‐occurring fauna.  相似文献

External and internal head structures of Osmylus fulvicephalus were examined and described in detail. Exo- and endoskeleton, musculature, elements of the central nervous system and tracheae are compared to conditions found in other groups of Neuropterida and other endopterygote lineages. Thirty-six adult cephalic characters were compiled, combined in a datamatrix with 64 characters of the larval head, and analysed cladistically. Mainly because many data on adults remain missing, most branches in the cladogram are mostly or exclusively supported by larval features. The shortening of the mesal mandibular wall and the resulting anterior shift of the adductor tendon possibly constitute an adult groundplan apomorphy of Neuropterida. Raphidioptera and Megaloptera share distinct prognathism and the presence of a sclerotised gula. However, the orthognathous head and the absence of a gula resulted as autapomorphies of Neuroptera in our analyses. Further potential autapomorphies are the asymmetry of the mandibles as well as the respective presence of dorsolateral furrows on the head capsule, of a shovel-like extension on the ventral mandibular cutting edge, and of a row of stiff hairs on the mandible’s ventral surface. The systematic affinities of Osmylidae remain ambiguous. Osmylus is mainly characterised by plesiomorphic features of the adult head such as a complete endoskeleton, long filiform antennae, largely unmodified orthopteroid mouthparts, and particularly the nearly complete set of muscles. The placement with a clade also comprising Hemerobiidae and Chrysopidae is poorly supported. The presence of a dense vestiture of long microtrichia on the distal galeomere resulted as a synapomorphy of the three families. An apparent plesiomorphy preserved in Osmylus but absent in all other groups of Neuroptera is the presence of well developed ocelli. The present study underlines the severe shortage of detailed morphological data on the adults. Intensive study of adult structures is required for a solid reconstruction of the phylogeny of Neuropterida, especially of the hemerobiform lineage of Neuroptera.  相似文献

The morphology, biology and geographic distribution of Hypsibius zetlandicus (Murray 1907) are considered. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and/or light microscopy (LM) analyses have been carried out on H. zetlandicus and the type species of Hypsibius: Hypsibius dujardini (Doyère 1840), with particular emphasis on the buccal–pharyngeal apparatuses. Some unusual characteristics of this apparatus in H. zetlandicus lead us to the erection of the new genus Borealibius, to which H. zetlandicus (Borealibius zetlandicus comb. n.) is transferred. In the light of new discoveries of this species from polar, sub-polar and alpine regions, and based on the available bibliographic references, we hypothesize a boreo–alpine distribution for this species. The presence of traits that are unusual and rare (in other tardigrade species) have been observed whilst analyzing the reproductive biology and ecology of B. zetlandicus (i.e., the presence of hermaphroditism, parental care and the colonization of very different substrates).  相似文献

The alkaline isomerization of horse heart ferricytochrome c (cyt c) has been studied by electronic absorption spectroscopy in the presence of the Hofmeister series of anions: chloride, bromide, rhodanide and perchlorate. The anions significantly affect the apparent pK a value of the transition in a concentration-dependent manner according to their position in the Hofmeister series. The Soret region of the absorption spectra is not affected by the presence of the salts and shows no significant structural perturbation of the heme crevice. In the presence of perchlorate and rhodanide anions, the cyanide exchange rate between the bulk solvent and the binding site is increased. These results imply higher flexibility of the protein structure in the presence of chaotropic salts. The thermal and isothermal denaturations monitored by differential scanning calorimetry and circular dichroism, respectively, showed a decrease in the conformational stability of cyt c in the presence of the chaotropic salts. A positive correlation between the stability, ΔG, of cyt c and the apparent pK a values that characterize the alkaline transition indicates the presence of a thermodynamic linkage between these conformational transitions. In addition, the rate constant of the cyanide binding and the partial molar entropies of anions negatively correlate with the pK a values. This indicates the important role of anion-induced solvent reorganization on the structural flexibility of cyt c in the alkaline transitions. The great diversity of mammals from the Los Alamitos Formation (Campanian–Maastrichtian) in Río Negro Province, Argentina has provided significant information about the evolution of South American dryolestoids. Among these mammals the alleged dryolestid Leonardus cuspidatus Bonaparte was described based on a fragment of maxilla with four molariforms. A right mandibular fragment with two molariforms from the same site as the maxilla is here assigned to L. cuspidatus. The lower molariforms are compatible in the expected morphology with those from the holotype. Even though referred to Dryolestidae, Leonardus shows unique features: (1) the presence of a huge and dome-like stylocone, disconnected and more centrally placed from the other cusps than in other dryolestoids such as Groebertherium, but contacting the preparacrista in the first preserved molar; (2) the absence of cingulae in both upper and lower molars, the latter being similar in shape to the former; (3) the presence of three roots in at least one of the lower molars, which has only been documented in the mesungulatid Coloniatherium for the m1. These characters confirm the diversity and uniqueness of the South American Mesozoic mammals.  相似文献
