The alimentary canal of the two‐spot ladybird Adalia bipunctata (Linnaeus) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) presents the foregut (stomodeum), the midgut (mesenteron) and the hindgut (proctodeum). The shortest region is the foregut and the longest is the midgut. The relative proportions of the main regions were found to be similar for males and females. In the foregut it was possible to distinguish the pharynx, the esophagus and the proventriculus but no crop. The hindgut is composed of the ileum, rectum and rectal canal. Generally the organ width is similar for males and females, but females presented a wider proventriculus. The epithelium of the foregut varied from squamous to simple cuboidal and columnar. In the midgut the epithelium is simple columnar with goblet and regenerative cells. The epithelium of the hindgut varied from simple cuboidal to squamous. Females presented thicker midgut epithelium whereas males presented thicker epithelium in the esophagus. The anatomy of the alimentary canal of A. bipunctata seems to conform to its carnivorous and recent phylogenetic status within the family Coccinellidae.  相似文献

Biochemical and histochemical studies have been made on non-specific acid and alkaline phosphomonoesterases of S. dentatus. The two forms of acid phosphomonoesterases have been found active at pH 4.0 and 6.0. The pH optima for the two forms of aklaline phosphomonoesterases lie at 8.0 and 10.0. Studies on the distribution of acid and alkaline phosphomonoesterases in various tissues have revealed an abundance of acid phosphomonoesterase in various parts of the alimentary canal and various organs of the reproductive system. The excretory ducts show alkaline phosphomonoesterase activity only.  相似文献

The cells present in the alimentary canal, contacting both nerve endings and smooth muscle cells and named interstitial cells of Cajal, show different ultrastructural features. A comparative study has been performed in order to see if these differences can be related to the animal species studied or to the interstitial cell localizations inside the muscle wall of the various levels of the alimentary canal or to their contacts with other cells. Only mammals were considered, and rat, mouse, hedgehog and man have been studied. All the localizations where interstitial cells of Cajal have usually been found were considered: esophagus (body and lower sphincter), stomach (gastric extent of the lower esophageal sphincter, fundus and corpus), small intestine and colon. From this comparison a correlation was found between the morphology and the location of interstitial cells. On the contrary, the morphological differences existing between animal species do not seem to be that consistent. Moreover, the number of contacts between interstitial cells and between these and smooth muscle cells and nerve endings varies according to the interstitial cell location and morphology. It is concluded that the chain nerve endings----interstitial cells of Cajal----smooth muscle cells is not morphologically identical at each gastrointestinal level, and this finding is considered very important in interpreting the role played by the interstitial cells of Cajal in gastrointestinal motility.  相似文献

The stomodaeal valve and adjacent cardia region of the alimentary canal of the phlebotomine sandfly Lutzomyia longipalpis have been studied using electron microscopy. With the scanning electron microscope (SEM), numerous pit-like structures of different sizes were found in the surface of the valve of male and female flies. Under the transmission electron microscope (TEM), the cells adjacent to the pores were shown to have numerous mitochondria and to lack neural innervation. It is suggested that the pit-like structures are probably secretory. A typical basiconic sensilla was found on the inner side of the oesophagus at the junction with the stomodaeal valve, with at least one dendrite which extended to the tip, indicating a chemosensory role. It is likely that this type of sensilla may control the movement of the stomodaeal valve after contact with fluids entering the mid-gut and may be responsible for diverting the sugar meal to the crop by closure of the valve.  相似文献

The domestic mite species Blomia tropicalis is an important indoor allergen source related to asthma and other allergic diseases in tropical and subtropical regions. Here, we describe the alimentary canal of B. tropicalis with the particular application of three-dimensional reconstruction technology. The alimentary canal of B. tropicalis resembles the typical acarid form consisting of the cuticle-lined foregut and hindgut separated by a cuticle-free midgut. The foregut is divided into a muscular pharynx and an esophagus. The midgut is composed of a central ventriculus, two lateral caeca, a globular colon and a postcolon with two tubiform postcolonic diverticula. The most common cells forming the epithelium of ventriculus and caeca are squamous and cuboidal. The globular cells contain a big central vacuole in the posterior region of the caeca. The epithelium of the colon and postcolon has significantly longer microvilli. The anal atrium is a simple tube with flattened epithelial cells. The spatial measurements of the three-dimensional model suggest that the paired caeca and central ventriculus occupy 55.1 and 34.6%, respectively, of the total volume of the alimentary canal and may play the key role in food digestion. Antarctic krill are parasitized by gregarines (Phylum Apicomplexa, Class Sporozoea, Order Eugregarinida), which were observed in this study by light, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy. Eighty seven percentage of the krill examined (n = 93) were infected with the parasites in the cephalin stage, which were regularly found in the hind-gut epithelium of their host. Cephalins were found attached to the epithelium, and then were liberated into the intestinal lumen. The gamont stage, which follows the cephalin stage, was found in the intestinal lumen, as well as the diverticulum of mid-gut gland. However, gamonts found in the mid-gut gland were considerably larger and elongated in comparison with those in the intestinal lumen. Gamonts in the diverticulum appear to damage microvilli, which are involved in the uptake of digested nutrients and secretion of various enzymes. Therefore, elevated infestation of this parasite in the mid-gut gland may have a significant impact on the nutritional state of the Antarctic krill host.  相似文献

Five-month-old pentactulae (juveniles) of the holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrixpossess a well-developed alimentary canal comprising an esophagus, a stomach, an intestine, and a rectum. The intestine in turn consists of five parts. The esophagus, stomach, and rectum are lined with a cuticular epithelium. The intestinal lining lacks a cuticle and is composed of mainly polyfunctional vesicular enterocytes. Granular enterocytes are less abundant; their cytoplasm contains electron-dense granules, which are probably zymogenic. The gut connective tissue consists of electron-lucent ground substance with collagen fibers and embedded coelomocytes. The gut mesothelium is composed of myoepithelial and peritoneal cells and contains the neurons of the hyponeural nerve plexus.  相似文献

Structural and ultrastructural studies on the gut of a freshwater Cyclopoida, Macrocyclops albidus (Crustacea, Copepoda) during its post-naupliar development show constant morphological and cytological characteristics. The alimentary canal is composed of three parts: oesophagus, gut and rectum. Three zones are described from the gut, which forms the major part of the alimentary canal. The median part, or midgut, is the more interesting, characterized by its vacuolar cells. All cells of the gut have constant features. An hypothesis on the digestive function is given in relation to behavioral observations and histological and biochemical data.  相似文献

Tissues from pupae of Glossina morsitans of various ages were cultured in modified Trager's medium. Cellular outgrowths were produced from explants of proventriculus, brain, and imaginal body wall and large vesicles were extruded from pieces of midgut of young pupae. Complete alimentary tract from older pupae displayed rhythmic contractions for up to 3 weeks. When Trypanosoma brucei and T. congolense in mouse blood were added to hanging drop cultures of tsetse tissues and incubated at 28 C, the organisms multiplied and changed into forms morphologically similar to those found in the tsetse fly midgut. The trypanosomes were maintained for 30 days by serial passage at 5-day intervals. The growth of T. brucei in the presence of different pupal tissues was studied. Of all the tissues tested the complete alimentary tract from pupae older than 21 days gave the best results. Growth also occurred when the trypanosomes were separated from the insect tissue by a semipermeable membrane. The trypanosomes failed to grow in (a) culture medium alone, (b) media containing extracts of alimentary canal and (c) medium in which alimentary tract had been cultured for 3 or 4 days.  相似文献

Digenean flukes can be classified into 3 groups according to their location in the host: the lumen of the alimentary canal or associated organ, body cavity or tissue, and external surfaces. We obtained adults of Clinostomum marginatum that had matured in these 3 habitats and compared the fine structure and glucose transporting capacity of their teguments. Adults from the esophagus of herons, Ardea herodias, had thick, smooth teguments and took up glucose by facilitated diffusion, the type of transport that is Na(+)-independent and insensitive to phlorizin. By contrast, the surfaces of adults cultured from metacercariae in body cavities of laboratory mice were amplified 3-5-fold due to numerous irregular projections of the tegument. Glucose transport by these worms was largely Na(+)-dependent and inhibited by phlorizin, indicating active transport. Ectoparasites from herons' mouths had relatively thick, smooth teguments, but these worms always were encrusted with bacteria and yeast that are known to absorb and metabolize glucose. Most of the attached bacteria, and the apparent glucose uptake associated with their presence, were removed by treating the worms with antibiotics prior to transport assays. As facilitated diffusion and active transport are operational simultaneously in metacercariae, the type of transport function, if any, expressed in the adult is determined by environmental conditions associated with the worm's habitat.  相似文献

Houseflies caught on refuse dumps in six areas of Ibadan were dissected and the intestinal parasitic cysts and eggs which were found in their alimentary canal were similar to those found in the examined faeces of the community living in the environment. Strongly eggs were also found in the alimentary canal of Musca species which had fed on the faeces of an infected sheep. While the houseflies caught in the living quarters the high income group were free of parasites, some of these caught in and around low income group residential areas possessed various parasitic eggs and cysts. Musca domestica specimens were exposed in the laboratory to eggs of three intestinal parasites. Their ability to transmit these eggs by regurgitation was highest within 1/2 hour of ingestion and it decreased with time until it was lost after 2 hours.  相似文献

采用扫描仪和扫描电镜相结合的方法对中华稻蝗Oxyachinensis(Thunberg)消化道内部的超微结构进行定位研究。结果表明直接将蝗虫消化道的内壁翻出(不染色)铺展于扫描仪的玻璃板上进行扫描,就能得到蝗虫消化道在自然状态下的完整图像,将扫描仪扫描后的样品用于扫描电子显微镜的样品制备,并对照上述研究结果,即可定位蝗虫消化道在扫描电子显微镜下的超微结构。为蝗虫消化道的形态学研究提供一个简便有效的方法,同时也为蝗虫消化道超微结构的定位研究提供新的手段。  相似文献

The pharynx, intestine and respiratory duct of Xenopus laevis were examined by light and electron microscopy, at different stages of the metamorphic cycle, through climax. It is well known that preclimactic larvae are suspension feeders and that after climax specimens feed on solid food. It is shown that the histology of the pharynx and the alimentary canal changes in adaptation to the change in the mode of feeding. Suspension feeding utilises ciliary activity but after climax cilia have disappeared from the pharynx and alimentary canal, when new neuromuscular mechanisms are utilised in feeding. Other morpho-histological changes in various intestinal and respiratory tissues are likewise considered in terms of functional activity.  相似文献

About 10% to 15% of all duplication cysts in the alimentary tract are esophageal. Esophageal duplication cysts are intimately attached to the alimentary tract, are lined by mucous membrane and have smooth muscle. This paper describes a 2-year-old child who presented with symptoms of progressive respiratory distress. A diagnosis of esophageal duplication cyst was made. At surgery a low cervical incision was made and the sternal manubrium split, thereby providing adequate exposure. The cyst was then removed. The most useful investigations were chest roentgenography and barium esophagography. Computerized tomography showed a small, round foreign body in the middle of the cyst that was subsequently found to be a bingo chip. Communication between the cyst and the esophagus was not obvious at the time of surgery and had not been demonstrated by barium esophagography. When complete excision of the cyst is not possible because of inflammatory reaction all the mucosa must be removed to prevent recurrence. Careful postoperative respiratory support and broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy are recommended.  相似文献

Inanidrilus bulbosus gen. et sp.n. is described from subtidal sands near Miami, Florida. The species lacks alimentary canal, but it possesses highly modified penial setae and an unpaired dorsal spermatheca. It appears closely related to Phallodrilus Pierantoni, but since it is devoid of anterior prostate glands, which are attached to the ental ends of the atria in Phallodrilus , a new monotypic genus, Inanidrilus gen.n., is established.  相似文献
