Marigo, A.M., Bâ, C.T. and Miquel, J. 2011. Spermiogenesis and spermatozoon ultrastructure of the dilepidid cestode Molluscotaenia crassiscolex (von Linstow, 1890), an intestinal parasite of the common shrew Sorex araneus. —Acta Zoologica (Stockholm) 92 : 116–125. Spermiogenesis in Molluscotaenia crassiscolex begins with the formation of a differentiation zone containing two centrioles. One of the centrioles develops a flagellum directly into the cytoplasmic extension. The nucleus elongates and later migrates along the spermatid body. During advanced stages of spermiogenesis, a periaxonemal sheath appears in the spermatid. Spermiogenesis finishes with the appearance of a single helicoidal crested body at the base of the spermatid and, finally, the narrowing of the ring of arched membranes causes the detachment of the fully formed spermatozoon. The mature spermatozoon of M. crassiscolex exhibits a partially detached crested body in the anterior region of the spermatozoon, one axoneme, twisted cortical microtubules, a periaxonemal sheath, and a spiralled nucleus. The anterior spermatozoon extremity is characterized by the presence of an electron‐dense apical cone and a single spiralled crested body, which is attached to the sperm cell in the anterior and posterior areas of region I, whereas in the middle area it is partially detached from the cell. This crested body is described for the first time in cestodes. The posterior extremity of the male gamete exhibits only the disorganizing axoneme. Results are discussed and compared particularly with the available ultrastructural data on dilepidids sensu lato.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the infective oncosphere of the cestode Mosgovoyia ctenoides (Anoplocephalidae) is described. The surface of the infective oncosphere is covered by a thin cytoplasmic layer of tegument connected by a narrow cytoplasmic process with the binucleate subtegumental cell, situated deeper in the body. Below the basal matrix of the cytoplasmic layer of the tegument are situated wide bands of the peripheral, somatic musculature responsible for body movements. The 3 pairs of hooks and their muscles form a complex hook muscle system, responsible for coordinated hook action. Five major types of cells have been distinguished: (1) a binucleate subtegumental cell, (2) a binucleate penetration gland, (3) 2 nerve cells, (4) numerous somatic cells, and (5) about 6 germinative cells. The approximate number of cells is 24 (26 nuclei, including 2 syncytial structures). The results of this study, when compared with other published reports from other cestode taxa, support previous hypotheses that the progressive reduction of oncosphere cells is an adaptive feature in cestode evolution.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis in Robphildollfusium fractum begins with the formation of a differentiation zone containing: two centrioles, each bearing striated rootlets, nucleus, several mitochondria and an intercentriolar body constituted by seven electron-dense layers. The two centrioles originate two free flagella growing orthogonally to the median cytoplasmic process. Later, the free flagella rotate and undergo proximodistal fusion with the median cytoplasmic process. Nuclear and mitochondrial migrations occur before this proximodistal fusion. Finally, the young spermatozoon detaches from the residual cytoplasm after the constriction of the ring of arched membranes. The spermatozoon of R. fractum exhibits two axonemes of different length of the 9 + ‘1’ trepaxonematan pattern, nucleus, two mitochondria, two bundles of parallel cortical microtubules, external ornamentation of the plasma membrane, spine-like bodies and granules of glycogen. Additionally, a shorter axoneme, which does not reach the nuclear region, the presence of an electron-dense material in the anterior spermatozoon extremity and the morphologies of both spermatozoon extremities characterize the mature sperm of R. fractum.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis and ultrastructure of spermatozoon of Nicolla wisniewskii (Digenea, Opecoelidae), an intestinal parasite of Salmo trutta, were studied by electron microscopy. Spermiogenesis follows the general pattern found in the Digenea. It begins with the formation of a differentiation zone, including striated rootlets associated with 2 centrioles and an intercentriolar body. The flagella undergo a rotation of greater than 90 degrees. Then, their fusion with the median cytoplasmic process is proximodistal and asynchronous. A peculiarity was observed before the fusion of flagella, i.e., the attachment zones joined as 2 pairs by an electron-dense bridge. The mature spermatozoon is characterized by 2 axonemes, cortical microtubules, a nucleus, 2 mitochondria, external ornamentation, and spinelike bodies. At the posterior end of flagella, the spermatozoon is also characterized by the presence of a central element of the axoneme and without the 9 microtubule doublets. These results were compared with those of the other digeneans and, in particular, with other species of Opecoelidae. It appears that the number of cortical microtubules and their localization in the spermatozoon may be an interesting feature of their phylogeny.  相似文献

Miquel, J., Torres, J., Foronda, P. and Feliu, C. 2010. Spermiogenesis and spermatozoon ultrastructure of the davaineid cestode Raillietina micracantha. — Acta Zoologica (Stockholm) 91 : 212–221 The spermiogenesis and the ultrastructural organization of the spermatozoon of the davaineid cestode Raillietina micracantha are described by means of transmission electron microscopy. Spermiogenesis begins with the formation of a zone of differentiation containing two centrioles. One of the centrioles develops a free flagellum that later fuses with a cytoplasmic extension. The nucleus migrates along the spermatid body after the proximodistal fusion of the flagellum and the cytoplasmic extension. During advanced stages of spermiogenesis a periaxonemal sheath and intracytoplasmic walls appear in the spermatids. Spermiogenesis finishes with the appearance of two helicoidal crested bodies at the base of spermatids and, finally, the narrowing of the ring of arched membranes detaches the fully formed spermatozoon. The mature spermatozoon of R. micracantha is a long and filiform cell, tapered at both ends, which lacks mitochondria. It exhibits two crested bodies of different lengths, one axoneme of the 9 + ‘1’ pattern of trepaxonematan Platyhelminthes, twisted cortical microtubules, a periaxonemal sheath, intracytoplasmic walls, granules of glycogen and a spiralled nucleus. The anterior extremity of the spermatozoon is characterized by the presence of an electron‐dense apical cone and two spiralled crested bodies while the posterior extremity of the male gamete exhibits only the axoneme and an electron‐dense posterior tip.  相似文献

Craniometric data of nine characters from 260 skulls of Oryctolagus cuniculus from western Europe and northern Africa were gathered to examine phenotypic variation in size, using both univariate and multivariate analyses. Although animals from the northern part of Europe were found to be larger than those from southern Europe, variation in size occurred in a continuous cline. Skull size was positively correlated with latitude and negatively correlated with ambient temperature. On the basis of skull morphology, there is no evidence for separation of O. cuniculus into the two or more subspecies commonly described. Further data, particularly from genetic material, are required to clarify the taxonomic status of the rabbit in Europe.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis and the ultrastructural organization of the spermatozoon of the digenean Neoapocreadium chabaudi are described by means of transmission electron microscopy.Spermiogenesis follows the usual pattern found in the digeneans. It begins with the formation of a zone of differentiation bordered by cortical microtubules, characterized by the presence of an intercentriolar body composed of seven electron-dense plates situated between two striated rootlets and two centrioles. These centrioles give rise to two free flagella. Later, both flagella undergo a rotation of 90° and fuse with the median cytoplasmic process. Spermiogenesis finishes when the ring of arched membranes constricts. The mature spermatozoon of N. chabaudi is characterized by the presence of 2 axonemes of different lengths presenting the 9 + “1” trepaxonematan pattern, 2 bundles of parallel cortical microtubules, 2 mitochondria, a nucleus, and granules of glycogen. Nevertheless, several characters such as the morphology of sperm extremities and the presence of spinelike bodies allow us to distinguish N. chabaudi from other digenetic trematodes. The present paper provides the first ultrastructural results of a digenean belonging to the family Apocreadiidae that may be useful for the understanding of digenean relationships and phylogenetic studies.  相似文献

Leporidotaenia n. g. is proposed for four cestode species parasitising Leporidae (Lagomorpha) which were previously considered as members of the genus Anoplocephaloides. The new genus is differentiated from Anoplocephaloides by the presence of a spinose covering on the tegument, the protrusible genital atrium, the massive cirrus-sac with highly developed musculature, the presence of a retractor muscle associated with the cirrus-sac, the posterior position of vaginal pore relative to the male orifice, the cirrus armed with long spines and its occurrence only in hosts of the family Leporidae (Lagomorpha). The genus includes: L. romerolagi (type-species), L. floresbarroetae, L. pseudowimerosa and L. wimerosa. the species (excluding L. floresbarroetae) are redescribed and figured and a differential key is presented. An attempt is made to explain the range of Leporidotaenia spp. in Central America and the western Palaearctic on the basis of the palaeozoogeography of rabbits and hares.  相似文献

The present paper describes the spermiogenesis and the ultrastructure of the spermatozoon of Fasciola gigantica, as revealed by transmission electron microscopy. Spermiogenesis in F. gigantica begins with the formation of a differentiation zone containing 2 centrioles with associated striated roots and an intercentriolar body between them. Each centriole develops a flagellum. Proximodistal fusion of these flagella with the median cytoplasmic extension gives rise to the spermatozoon. Spermiogenesis in F. gigantica is characterized by the formation of a dorsolateral cytoplasmic expansion, an external ornamentation of the cell membrane, and spinelike bodies. These 3 structures were also observed in the anterior part of the spermatozoon. Our study describes for the first time the simultaneous presence of dorsolateral cytoplasmic expansion, external ornamentation of the plasma membrane, and spinelike bodies in the spermatozoon of a trematode.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis in Diplodiscus subclavatus begins with the formation of the zone of differentiation presenting two centrioles associated with striated roots and an intercentriolar body. The latter presents seven electron-dense layers with a fine central plate and three plates on both sides. The external pair of these electron-dense layers is formed by a granular row. Each centriole develops into a free flagellum, both of them growing orthogonally in relation to the median cytoplasmic process. After the flagellar rotation and before the proximodistal fusion of both flagella with the median cytoplasmic process four attachment zones were already observed in several cross-sections indicating the area of fusion. Spinelike bodies are also observed in the differentiation zone before the fusion of flagella. Finally, the constriction of the ring of arched membranes gives rise to the young spermatozoon that detaches from the residual cytoplasm. The mature spermatozoon of D. subclavatus shows all the classical characters observed in Digenea spermatozoa such as two axonemes of different length of the 9+"1" trepaxonematan pattern, nucleus, mitochondrion, two bundles of parallel cortical microtubules and granules of glycogen. However, some peculiarities such as a well-developed lateral expansion associated with external ornamentation of the plasma membrane and spinelike bodies combined with their area of appearance distinguish the ultrastructural organization of the sperm cells of D. subclavatus from those of other digeneans.  相似文献

Understanding the factors controlling the distribution of parasites within their host population is fundamental to the wider understanding of parasite epidemiology and ecology. To explore changes in parasite aggregation, Taylor's power law was used to examine the distributions of five gut helminths of the wild rabbit. Aggregation was found to be a dynamic process that varied with year, season, host sex, age class, and myxomatosis. Yearly and seasonal changes are thought, in the main, to be the result of variations in weather conditions acting upon infectious stages (or intermediate hosts). Evidence in support of this was the comparatively low degree of fluctuation in the aggregation of the pinworm, Passalurus ambiguus, as the infectious stage of this parasite is likely to be less susceptible to environmental variation. Host age had a marked effect on the level of aggregation of all parasites, but this effect varied between parasite species. P. ambiguus, Trichostrongylus retortaeformis and Cittotaenia denticulata aggregation were lower in adult than juvenile rabbits whilst Graphidium strigosum and Mosgovoyia pectinata aggregation tended to increase with age. Host immunity is thought to be responsible for these differences. Differences in aggregation for different parasites were also seen when the rabbit population was split into males and females. Myxomatosis had a marked effect on helminth distribution with substantially less aggregation in rabbits showing clinical signs of the disease.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis in Hymenolepsis nana begins with the formation of a differentiation zone. This is limited at the front by arched membranes, is surrounded by cortical microtubules associated with 12 crested-like bodies, and contains a single centriole made up of doublets. The distal centriole gives rise to a flagellum that grows at the same pace as the cortical microtubules. Migration of the nucleus takes place after the formation of the flagellum. It is followed by the separation of the old spermatid from the residual cytoplasm. The mature H. nana spermatozoon is filiform and lacks mitochondria. The axoneme, of the 9 + "1" pattern of the Platyhelminthes, does not reach the extremities of the spermatozoon. The nucleus is electron dense and is in close contact with the axoneme around which it coils in a spiral making an angle of 10 degrees to 15 degrees with the spermatozoon axis. The cortical microtubules follow a 10 degrees to 15 degrees helicoidal path along almost their whole length, except at their posterior extremity, where they are parallel to the spermatozoon axis. H. nana is distinguished by the early development of 12 crested-like bodies of different lengths and by the existence of a single centriole in the differentiation zone. Such a high number of crested-like bodies had never previously been reported in a cestode.  相似文献

Ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and the main characters of the mature spermatozoon of Troglotrema acutum are described by means of transmission electron microscopy. Specimens were obtained from the nasolacrimal sinuses of an American mink (Mustela vison). Spermiogenesis in T. acutum follows the general pattern of digeneans. The zone of differentiation is a conical-shaped area bordered by cortical microtubules and delimited at its base by a ring of arched membranes. This area contains 2 centrioles associated with striated rootlets and an intercentriolar body between them. The centrioles develop 2 free flagella that grow ortogonally to the median cytoplasmic process. The posterior flagellar rotation and proximodistal fusion of the free flagella with the median cytoplasmic process originate the spermatozoon. The mature spermatozoon of T. acutum is characterized by the presence of 2 axonemes of different lengths presenting the 9+'1' trepaxonematan pattern, 2 bundles of parallel cortical microtubules, 2 mitochondria, a nucleus, and granules of glycogen. These ultrastructural characters are compared with other digenean species previously studied and the importance of different spermatological features is discussed.  相似文献

The mature spermatozoon of Anomotaenia quelea exhibits an apical cone of electron-dense material and two helicoidal crest-like bodies. The apical cone near its base is surrounded by a lucent cytoplasm and a spiraled layer of cortical microtubules. The crest-like bodies are of different lengths, spiraled and make an angle of 30–40° to the hypothetical spermatozoon axis. The axoneme is of the 9 + ‘1’ trepaxonematan pattern and is surrounded by a periaxonemal sheath of electron-dense material. The cytoplasm contains in regions III and IV numerous electron-dense granules situated between the periaxonemal sheath and the cortical microtubules. The posterior extremity of the spermatozoon of A. quelea exhibits a nucleus and a disorganized axoneme and cortical microtubules. This type of posterior extremity of the mature spermatozoon has never been described previously in a Dilepididae. Similarly, two crest-like bodies have not been observed before in a dilepidid cestode.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the mature spermatozoon of Gyliauchen sp., a parasite of the dusky rabbitfish Siganus fuscescens, was studied by transmission electron microscopy. The spermatozoon possesses two axonemes of the 9+"1" pattern of Trepaxonemata, four attachment zones, one mitochondrion, a nucleus, cortical microtubules, external ornamentation of the plasma membrane, and spine-like bodies. The main characteristics of this spermatozoon are the presence of one mitochondrion, spine-like bodies not associated with the external ornamentation, and a posterior extremity of type 3 that is characterized by the following sequence: posterior extremity of the nucleus then posterior extremity of the second axoneme. Numerous other ultrastructural features are also discussed and compared to the digenean spermatology literature. This is the first study of a member of the Gyliauchenidae and the fourth within the Lepocreadioidea. The results show that many ultrastructural characters are variable within this superfamily and could be useful for phylogeny.  相似文献

1. Fatty-acid composition of hare milk triacylglycerols markedly differed from that of rabbit milk and was essentially characterized by a 2.1 times lower concentration of medium-chain fatty-acids (M.C.F.A.). 2. Consequently, very high levels (greater than 70 moles %) of M.C.F.A., previously reported for rabbit milk, cannot be considered as a general characteristic of the Leporidae. 3. General tendencies recorded for intramolecular fatty acid distribution in hare milk triacylglycerols agreed with those reported for other animal species.  相似文献

Analysis of 9 genetic loci by horizontal starch gel electrophoresis was performed on 203 specimens of South African representatives of the leporid genera Lepus and Pronolagus . Three loci were found to be polymorphic within samples of the various species of both genera: transferrin (Tf-I), esterase-1 (Es-I) and esterase-2 (Es-II). Only one system, carbonic anhydrase (CA-I), proved useful in species identification, this being restricted to the genus Lepus . Based on this system all Lepus specimens analysed would be assigned to one of two groups corresponding to the species L. capensis and L. saxatils .  相似文献

A new species of anoplocephalid cestode, Paranoplocephala gubanovi sp. n. (Cyclophyllidea, Anoplocephalidae), from wood lemmings of Eastern Siberia (Myopus schisticolor) is described. The new species differs from other known species of Paranoplocephala associated with Holarctic lemmings by having unique combination of characters as follows: a few-segmented strobila, superficial suckers sticking out of the scolex, ovary covering practically the whole middle part of the segment, relatively little number of testicles situated in the aporal part of the segment, cirrus bursa crossing the poral excretory vessels, and subspherical spermatheca situated in the middle part of the segment. Comparison of P. gubanovi sp. n. and several closest species, P. fellmani Haukisaimi et Henttonen, 2001, P. serrata Haukisaimi et Henttonen, 2000, and P. arctica (Rausch, 1952) has been carried out. Features distinguishing the new species from Aprostatandrya macrocephala and A. microti have also been studied.  相似文献
